00:01 zhanx ummm only 4-5
00:01 rue_house i'm at 1
00:01 zhanx had one that was a foot long almost, fat little bugger, got him in a swamp somewhere
00:01 zhanx attached to my thigh
00:02 rue_house how much did it get?
00:02 zhanx not much only on about 2 minutes
00:02 rue_house I cuaght mine walking thru a lawn
00:02 rue_house so it was only on a few seconds
00:03 zhanx nice, little guy then
00:03 rue_house rifraf had great amusement watching me try to get it off
00:03 zhanx use a lighter, they jump off
00:03 rue_house I pulled on mine
00:04 rue_house it gave up after a while
00:04 rue_house rifraf double over in laughter behind me
00:04 zhanx i bet i would have too
00:04 rue_house I was worried it was gonna come apart
00:05 zhanx use a hot knife next time
00:05 rue_house so I found out an amp I have in the 'dont bother fixing' pile on the deck is an antique, so I think I'll recap it.
00:06 rue_house akia am-u01 or something
00:06 zhanx cool, i got an old intercom box i am gonna make into a radio, its from 1910
00:06 rue_house they had one of those designs that still looks modern enough
00:06 rue_house heh
00:06 zhanx time zone lag sucks
00:07 zhanx its almost 1 am for me and its only like 10
00:07 zhanx off to bed
00:08 e_house goes to brush his teeth with a black marker, decides more light might be a good
00:08 rue_house I should be able to hook on my 3rd monitor sooon
00:08 rue_house now that I have a working usb audio card, I can pull out hte pci sound card and have room for a pci video card
00:09 rue_house I can fit another pci card in, but it'd choke the pcie vid cards fan
00:14 katsmeow-afk rue was building a big boat?!
00:16 katsmeow-afk damn, i say something, the room dies AGAIN
00:26 rue_house I was surprised too
00:26 rue_house no, it died before you got here
00:30 rue_house gnight sentient text streams
00:30 tsmeow-afk waves her meow g
00:30 rue_house moew
00:30 rue_house I mean, goodnight
04:31 Solarnrg Do any of you like red dwarf?
05:11 GuShH no
05:11 dunz0r I think it's sort of fun
08:54 rue_house I liked it
11:01 i-make-robots http://indiegogo.com/robots-for-schools please tell your friends!
11:13 chris_99 love your drawing thingy
11:53 i-make-robots thanks.
11:53 i-make-robots adafruit just reposted my skycam built from two drawbots.
11:57 chris_99 linky?
12:57 i-make-robots http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2012/09/11/diy-skycam-robot-with-two-motor-shields/
13:14 chris_99 does anyone know what kind of accuracy/repeatability you could get with a servo driven robotic arm
13:18 GuShH chris_99: depends on so many factors...
13:19 chris_99 yeah, would it be possible get get similar figures to pneumatics or is there some reason that's inherently better
14:35 i-make-robots chris_99 - what kind of servos?
14:35 chris_99 any servos
14:36 i-make-robots pneumatics are "springy" due to air compression. I wouldn't even consider them for accuracy.
14:36 i-make-robots come on, don't bs me. there are servos and then there are servos.
14:36 chris_99 heh, look at most industrial robots
14:36 chris_99 they use pneumatics
14:36 i-make-robots you can pay hundreds for high accuracy industrial servos or you can get fuckin' towerpro hobby garbage.
14:36 chris_99 and they get sub mil accuracy
14:36 i-make-robots look again, they probably use hydraulics.
14:37 chris_99 no
14:37 chris_99 i've looked into some
14:37 chris_99 and they use pneumatics
14:37 chris_99 the bigger ones may be hydraullic
14:38 i-make-robots ok, sure. if you've done your homework and they say they use pneumatics, great.
14:39 i-make-robots clearly i don't believe it. You'll have to do your own research on the accuracy. just do us a favor and post about it somewhere so we can read it later, ok? Could be educational to others.
14:39 chris_99 whatever
14:39 chris_99 just look yourself if you care
14:39 i-make-robots you asked the question first.
14:40 chris_99 i'm sure others already know ;)
14:40 i-make-robots great! When you find the answer, can you post it online somewhere? If you haven't found it yet then maybe you're the first.
14:42 chris_99 ok, par example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271043535807?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
14:44 non-sense hey guys, really struggling here
14:45 non-sense have a fanuc robot issue.... it boils down to finding the right Vendor and Product #
14:45 non-sense how would I go about finding this information
14:46 non-sense I have a manual, and it suggested I use, vendor 8, product type 140, product code 34
14:47 non-sense product type seems to be right, but vendor and product code doesnt seem to matchup
14:47 non-sense Fanuc help line doesnt help unless you specifically baught the expensive robot
14:47 chris_99 darn, do you have it already?
14:47 chris_99 if so just give them serial maybe
14:51 rue_house non-sense,
14:52 rue_house usb?
14:55 non-sense hey
14:55 non-sense usb?
14:55 non-sense sorry, ethernet
14:56 non-sense i can ping robot, and i can suck information from the module on the robot. but it wont establish a healthy connection
14:56 GuShH_ suck information?
14:56 GuShH_ do you use a straw?
14:57 GuShH_ non-sense: transformer-less?
15:02 non-sense ...
15:02 non-sense yeah terminology is very hard to understand.
15:02 non-sense apologees
15:03 non-sense thanks anyways
15:03 GuShH_ non-sense: have you ruled out the cable or soldering issues?
15:03 GuShH_ what module is this?
15:05 i-make-robots non-sense - do you have a picture? maybe we can help identify it
15:06 non-sense A16B-3200-0600/13D is the p/n of the mainboard
15:06 non-sense i need to know the module information of the 2nd ethernet port.
15:06 non-sense (port B)
15:48 katsmeow-afk i picked up the other generator ($94) just as the guy was about to take a torch to it and cut it up,, going over these in detail, i was told wrong by previous owner, they are NOT 14kw, they are NOT the nameplate 8kw, they are 7kw each (30amp @ 240vac)
16:02 Tom_itx so?
16:02 Tom_itx still generators
16:16 katsmeow-afk umm
19:03 tacopower57 so what does everyone consider robotics, more mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or computer programming?
19:03 Tom_itx yes
19:04 tacopower57 i/o error please try again
19:04 Tom_itx all the above
19:04 Tom_itx D.
19:04 tacopower57 yes i know the common answer is all of the above
19:04 tacopower57 but what is the core
19:05 Tom_itx there is no core. they all must work in unison
19:05 orlok tacopower57: and physics, psychology, as well as philisophy
19:06 Tom_itx anatomy
19:06 tacopower57 well im not jumping to ai yet so i didnt include psychology
19:06 tacopower57 well anatomy is kind of a redundent answer. the human body is a mechanical system
19:07 tacopower57 so anatomy is nothing more than a mechanical and chemical engine
19:08 haryv and electrical system
19:08 tacopower57 so i have always had an interest in robotics, i ended up in the it/programming field but find that robotics seems a much more hands on profession
19:08 haryv Which is amazing considering that the brain has the capacity to generate small amount of electrical current and voltage.
19:09 tacopower57 well if we go that way, i believe i remember a trivial fact that the human body can contain up to 3000V of electricity at any one time
19:10 tacopower57 so to me at least that is a fair amount
19:10 orlok dont get your facts from watching the matrix movies...
19:10 tacopower57 but i don't dispute what a complicated machine the human body is
19:11 tacopower57 i dont call where i got it, likely it was from some discovery channel show
19:11 haryv btw, I believe I am correct, if a high amount of current, passes from one hand to the other, it will singe and fry the nerve that passed the heart beat pulse from the brain to the heart.
19:11 haryv I think there is a medical wikipedia
19:11 orlok haryv: skin resistance
19:12 orlok haryv: and not so much current
19:12 tacopower57 well a seizure is nothing but a large influx of electricity in the brain flowing in the same direction
19:12 orlok but you need a certain amount of volts to penetrate the relativly high resistance of the skin
19:12 orlok poke holes in that, and the human body is mainly salty water
19:12 tacopower57 i dont know that i would call it high
19:12 tacopower57 it is coated with a very conductive liquid salt water
19:13 orlok damn, dansdata is offline
19:13 haryv there was thories running in avionics collage, how a navy sailor killed hime self with a 9 volt but I did not believe it.
19:13 orlok he has a good explination
19:13 orlok haryv: yeah
19:14 haryv Also, high current/voltage would boil the moisture in the body cells, causing mini steam explositions ripping the flesh to pieces. This has happens to line man in the past where part of there arm blows off. In the case of the electric chair, I think the current is kept low so this does not happen.
19:16 haryv My step dad told me of a Medrona tree that uses water as its main transport of nutrients, blew up like a bomb when a lighting bolt hit it. Since a lighting bolt is as hot as a surface of the sun, it turned the water into steam causing the tree to explode into chuncks onto the highway.
19:17 haryv now, here is a survival question. If you are on a wet road, and a power line drops onto the wet road, what do you do? Ie, before it drops, and you see it drop, what do you do?
19:17 tacopower57 well i agree plenty of things are destroyed by expanding gases
19:17 tacopower57 human arms trees
19:17 GuShH_ haryv: any HV you can achieve quickly at home won't shear any plant apart
19:17 GuShH_ it'll carbonize it
19:17 GuShH_ slowly too.
19:17 tacopower57 well anyways, so who has a boe board or sumo bot?
19:18 GuShH_ haryv: you don't do anything as long as you aren't in the way
19:18 haryv I was once became the horse fence when I accidently put both hands across the terminals of the transformer I purchaced :)
19:19 tacopower57 whats the voltage across a horse fence
19:19 haryv Gushh, six people...were all lying next to a down power line...because one after the other, saw some one down, ran over to help them, then became energized.
19:19 tacopower57 i would imagine its higher since they have thicker skin
19:20 haryv Taco, the power in that transformer made my legs extend full length and I went flying backwards :)
19:20 tacopower57 well at least it was AC
19:20 tacopower57 DC would have held you in place
19:20 haryv Luckily it was only pluged into 115 volts ac.
19:20 haryv DC only gives one jolt. It does not electrify outside of that one spike.
19:21 tacopower57 when i was a kid i plugged in 2 extension cords into different outlets and then plugged them together, got my thumb stuck inbetween
19:21 haryv LOL
19:21 tacopower57 a high enough DC voltage will hold you to the source
19:21 tacopower57 AC will always kick you away
19:21 haryv yes, it can
19:21 haryv DC can kill if its released
19:21 tacopower57 correct
19:22 haryv fast enough such as a mf cap bank
19:22 tacopower57 well so haryv do you do robotics?
19:22 haryv In fact, a large enough Mf cap shorted sounds like a shot gun
19:22 haryv Taco, no
19:22 haryv But I want to
19:22 tacopower57 yeah so do i
19:23 tacopower57 im a IT guy, went back to school for some electronic classes but just dont have time with my day job
19:23 haryv Me, Avionics in the early 90s, then automotive, then IT. IT is rather boring.
19:23 tacopower57 i have a boe sumo bot and a bunch of stepper motors, some day i want to make something that cooks for me
19:24 haryv I would be REALLY happy in a mechanized production enviroment. It does not have to be robotics but could be PLC based automation.
19:24 tacopower57 well i'm getting fairly high up in IT and work for the medical field so a lot of my free time is taken up, but a lot of times i think robotics would be a much more rewarding field
19:24 haryv or medical field
19:25 tacopower57 well every IT guy likes automation of any sort
19:25 orlok tacopower57: the place my brother works makes medical robots
19:25 tacopower57 its because were all lazy
19:25 haryv Taco, how do you like working as a IT admin or Support for medical field?
19:25 theBear bullshit ! ac can make you hang on, all depends where things like yer hands and leg muscles are when you hit the power
19:26 haryv AC explands and contracts the muscles at 60 times per second.
19:26 tacopower57 I like it so far been in this side of the business for about 6 months used to manage IT for the finacial sector
19:26 haryv you have no control of letting go of a wire or anything energized.
19:26 theBear and muscles tend to spasm when they get that done to them... trust me on this one
19:26 orlok Eurgh. I am in the comms/oayment industry now.
19:26 orlok Screw PCI-DSS
19:26 orlok :-(
19:26 tacopower57 and DC will make you tense up which is why it will make you hold on, it doesnt release
19:27 haryv taco, medical will always be recession proof ;)
19:27 theBear i've had to kick people off ac, and hit other with big bits of wood, trust me
19:27 haryv taco, did you get a job right after collage?
19:27 tacopower57 yeah i feel very good about my employement prospects
19:27 orlok haryv: A pile of healthcare workers here are getting sacked
19:27 tacopower57 yeah i did
19:27 tacopower57 but not in medical
19:27 haryv orlok, yea thats to bad. why? population getting smaller?
19:28 tacopower57 i started like most people, help desk and worked my way up
19:28 tacopower57 been in IT proably like 7 years
19:28 tacopower57 3 different companies since my start
19:28 orlok haryv: nah, politicians dicks.
19:28 haryv Taco, I started in 1998. not working. applied and applied not getting anywhere ten years ago. Even today, did not get any kind of job calls.
19:29 haryv here in BC Canada.
19:29 tacopower57 ohio usa
19:29 tacopower57 stated around 2007
19:29 haryv how many offers then?
19:29 haryv just before the economic crash. amazing.
19:30 tacopower57 well i didnt even post a resume for my first job
19:30 tacopower57 they found me somehow and called me
19:30 tacopower57 second job i got an interview through a friend
19:30 haryv ahh
19:30 haryv nice
19:30 tacopower57 3rd job i got because of my work at second job
19:30 haryv what are home prices in your area?
19:31 tacopower57 hmm well probably about 120k to 250k
19:31 tacopower57 depending on where you want to live of course
19:31 haryv for small three bedroom rancher?
19:31 tacopower57 well you could get the gated community home for 250k
19:31 haryv here, its around 500-1 million
19:31 tacopower57 you could get a nice ranch in a white area for 100k
19:31 haryv well, 400 to one million
19:32 tacopower57 who wants to live in BC?
19:32 tacopower57 that seems way to high for that area
19:32 haryv its expensive very expensive
19:32 tacopower57 im guessing close to US border?
19:32 tacopower57 so like a bed room community for seatle?
19:32 orlok wow, here you get an empty block of land for $200k
19:32 haryv www.mls.ca and look at vancouver.
19:32 orlok and thats with about an hour drive
19:33 tacopower57 well vancover city prices don't compair with a ohio prices
19:33 tacopower57 all cities are way more expensive
19:34 haryv vancouver is land locked. its also the most livable..well was, city in the world
19:34 haryv taco, what applications do you support?
19:34 tacopower57 well reality prices are wholey subjective
19:34 tacopower57 epic
19:34 tacopower57 cache
19:34 tacopower57 aix
19:34 tacopower57 oracle
19:35 tacopower57 sql
19:35 haryv big apps
19:35 tacopower57 linux
19:35 tacopower57 well epic is
19:35 haryv did you get started out of a collage based It program?
19:35 haryv epic is hospital based app?
19:35 tacopower57 big time app
19:36 tacopower57 its winning the market in large hospital electronic medical records
19:36 haryv http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Systems
19:36 tacopower57 if its in WI thats it
19:36 tacopower57 too lazy to click link
19:37 tacopower57 cache is the database that it runs over
19:37 tacopower57 aix is the os we run it on, reporting is done via oracle
19:37 haryv interesting
19:38 haryv have not seen aix term in years.
19:38 haryv unix that is
19:38 tacopower57 ibm/aix is a solid platform
19:38 haryv how different is aix vs linux for its file system
19:38 tacopower57 well management is differnt of course
19:39 haryv yes
19:39 tacopower57 i started out as a linux admin
19:39 tacopower57 and moved to aix for this new job
19:40 tacopower57 aix is stable
19:40 tacopower57 wish i had it for my home instances
19:40 haryv why
19:40 tacopower57 but i still run with redhat
19:40 tacopower57 at home
19:40 haryv I run centos
19:40 haryv and ubunto
19:40 haryv u
19:40 tacopower57 same difference
19:40 tacopower57 redhat = centos
19:41 haryv did not care for chacing dependacies all day
19:41 tacopower57 ubuntu has good home driver support but their enterprise isn't upto snuff to spend time on
19:41 haryv sure
19:41 tacopower57 its still either redhat or suse
19:42 orlok haryv: dependencies on centos?
19:42 haryv I have a centos CCTV system need to run again..its just powered off.
19:42 haryv orkok....this was years ago, dif distro
19:42 tacopower57 yum yum yum
19:42 haryv I started using linux in 97
19:42 orlok haryv: ahh, dependency hell used to be.. hell
19:42 orlok but its all down to the package manager
19:43 haryv i know
19:43 orlok haryv: i was using slackware a few years before that
19:43 haryv BTW, im going to turn on my system up stairs and switch over. I think I have xwindows running on it.
19:43 orlok 389, installed from floppies, eurgh
19:43 orlok uhh
19:43 haryv I started with slack
19:43 tacopower57 slackware is fun to play with but not if you just want a machine that works
19:43 orlok 386, even
19:43 orlok been doing too much ldap work
19:43 haryv brb
19:44 tacopower57 im looking forward to window 2012
19:44 tacopower57 the end of the gui
19:44 tacopower57 going to really thin the IT heard
19:45 tacopower57 herd?
19:47 haryv I guess i been windows spoiled on my toughbook. My old opteron workstation mobo died a week ago, when I wiggled the gforce vid card and smelt burning..then it powered off. pc shop with hw code tester board said my board is dead.
19:47 orlok you.. wiggled a card in a running system?
19:47 haryv no, the vga connection
19:47 tacopower57 wiggle wiggle
19:47 orlok ahh
19:47 haryv had no vid when it powered up
19:48 haryv never in my life, even as a hardware break fix ever seen that before
19:48 haryv i worked at fluke.com as the tech guy
19:48 orlok ahh
19:49 orlok haryv: company that owns them also owns techtronics and leica
19:49 orlok tektronics, even
19:49 haryv danahar
19:49 orlok yup
19:49 orlok my brother is a sysadmin at leica
19:50 haryv danahar is evil
19:50 haryv company sent in a efficency review board into the IT department and two weeks latter, me and a host of staff got laid off.
19:50 orlok ?
19:50 haryv company=danahar
19:50 orlok ahh. must have been too effecient, made yourselves redundant
19:51 haryv I was a contractor. Fluke WAS a great company to work for.
19:51 orlok haryv: ever read dansdata?
19:51 haryv no who is that?
19:52 orlok ahh, cool geek blog, been going on for a long time
19:52 orlok down for some reason right now, wwhich is very unusual
19:52 haryv wife home brb
19:57 tacowarrior57 dont remember my name but this the same taco again
19:58 tacowarrior57 so someones wife is home is the last i saw
19:58 Tom_itx tacopower57
19:58 haryv back
19:58 tacowarrior57 k well at least i remembered the taco and 57 part
19:59 tacowarrior57 so haryv you were a contractor that got laid off?
19:59 tacowarrior57 still out of work?
19:59 haryv taco, among many..in 1999
19:59 haryv actually it was 2000
19:59 tacowarrior57 so are you saying you've been put of work for 12 years
20:00 tacowarrior57 ??
20:00 haryv then landed a job as a admin in 2000
20:00 haryv no
20:00 tacowarrior57 k good
20:00 haryv been in low voltage telecom work
20:00 haryv and pc/server/printer contrac bid work
20:00 tacowarrior57 whats the difference between low voltage telecom and normal telecom/celluar?
20:00 tacowarrior57 spacekitteh?
20:01 tacowarrior57 spacekitten?
20:01 tacowarrior57 spaceflood
20:01 tacowarrior57 ?
20:01 tacowarrior57 well haryv
20:01 haryv well, cellular I suspect is higher end telecom work. Deals more with RF equpment installations such as repeater or, CDMA, hardline, Batter bank changes.
20:02 haryv I have done one battery bank change out for a telecom company. 2 volt 1,200 amp batteries
20:02 tacowarrior57 join #cars
20:02 haryv all tied together to make -48 volts
20:02 tacowarrior57 hmm
20:02 haryv dont ask me how the -48 comes into play
20:02 tacowarrior57 i have some buddies in celluar
20:03 tacowarrior57 aka telecom
20:03 haryv I see
20:03 tacowarrior57 two low level carriers
20:03 tacowarrior57 revol and cricket
20:03 haryv where in the states?
20:03 tacowarrior57 revol ohio
20:03 tacowarrior57 cricket, maryland
20:03 tacowarrior57 DC
20:03 haryv are they contractors for ATT or some other major LEC?
20:04 tacowarrior57 no these are indepenants
20:04 haryv I see
20:04 tacowarrior57 each has its own customer base
20:04 haryv you want to know what a crapy thing the local Lec carriers here, Both Telus and Shaw does with its installers?
20:04 tacowarrior57 go forit
20:05 haryv They laid off 75% of them. Then hired independant contactors. Aka, you use your own vehicle put a ladder on it, then do the work at homes and businesses.
20:05 tacowarrior57 they just took a card from the construction industry
20:05 tacowarrior57 its called sub contractos
20:05 tacowarrior57 contrators
20:06 haryv every telus former and current long term employee since its very stressfull to work for the company.
20:06 haryv ever since the employees when on strike a number of years ago.
20:06 haryv The company used to be bctel and the service went to crap when telus bought them out.
20:06 tacowarrior57 yeah well in my short career in IT i have found it to be true if you don't like where you work, move on because they will make any promise they can to make you hang in there and still never pay out
20:07 tacowarrior57 IT is considered a COST center and only COSTS the business money
20:07 tacowarrior57 so they always look to cut there
20:07 haryv I would like to work for a telecom company here but its sooo compedive.
20:07 tacowarrior57 they call it "trimming the operational budget"
20:07 haryv yea
20:08 tacowarrior57 well you could always move
20:08 haryv not so easy.
20:08 tacowarrior57 sure it is
20:08 tacowarrior57 you just have to give up what you think to be your life and adopt a new one
20:08 katsmeow-afk compedive?
20:08 haryv american living in canada. move to the states when my PR card is in up for renwal and processing..could risk not be allowed back into canada to be with my wife.
20:08 katsmeow-afk comedy scuba?
20:09 tacowarrior57 whats a PR card?
20:09 haryv perm resident card
20:09 haryv I am a landed immigrant from washington state
20:09 tacowarrior57 i thought most thrid world countries let you have dual citizenship with the US
20:09 haryv or, usa
20:09 haryv :)
20:09 tacowarrior57 ah
20:10 haryv I am lucky just to be two hour drive to see parents on other side of border.
20:10 tacowarrior57 well im not a big family guy
20:10 tacowarrior57 so that doesnt matter to me
20:10 tacowarrior57 i would say if you don't like the job market, move
20:10 tacowarrior57 but i am a workaholic
20:10 haryv I dont care to much..I could be happy being away for up to two months, then return home.
20:10 tacowarrior57 that's why i have moved up so quickly
20:11 tacowarrior57 but not everyone can be without family for that long
20:11 haryv I know
20:11 haryv even two months is long
20:11 haryv I was in the service and know what its like
20:11 haryv six months at a time.
20:11 tacowarrior57 yeah im a batchlour with little ties and just some pets
20:12 tacowarrior57 so moving is little difference to me
20:12 tacowarrior57 but i have not issues with ohio
20:12 haryv but flying is cheap and fast if the route is dirrect. Still amazes me its 2 hours flight from bellingham to Lasvagas :)
20:12 tacowarrior57 in not a gambler
20:12 tacowarrior57 seems like a waste dont have a big desire to get to vegas
20:13 haryv I am making a example of time in flight ...not city specific but at least it covers a large distance
20:13 tacowarrior57 i enjoy my three weeks in japan far more
20:13 tacowarrior57 oh
20:13 haryv so, work in Utah, be home in less then two hours.
20:13 tacowarrior57 yeah with air travel everywhere is pretty close
20:14 tacowarrior57 i more prefer to move near work than travel
20:14 haryv I remember when nexas for airflight was put in. me and my wife have it. We got off the flight in vancouver. There wasa 45 min wait to inprocess. We walked up to the eye scanner and walked right on though.
20:14 haryv man that was crazy.
20:14 tacowarrior57 my father died a couple months ago and i had to take over a house. i used to be 10 minutes fromwork, now i'm an hour and i really dislike it
20:15 haryv I know
20:15 tacowarrior57 an hour in the car is such a waste of time but i feel like i get less done if i try to work from home
20:15 haryv I like service work...except comming home when traffic is crammed.
20:15 tacowarrior57 too many distractions
20:17 haryv yes
20:17 haryv btw
20:17 haryv I want to learn how to send out step signals to serial memory. I understand that the os is always in protected mode.
20:18 haryv stupid s stuck on linux boot
20:19 haryv unbuntu is decent.
20:19 tacowarrior57 like i said before ubuntu is great for home use, and things like netbooks and such
20:19 tacowarrior57 and the community is strong
20:20 tacowarrior57 so whats the time out in BC?
20:20 haryv crappy logitech keyboard
20:21 haryv brb
20:31 haryv now this is bizzare news. university of Victoria has created a Co-ed Bathroom. Showed male and female students walking into it.
20:32 tsmeow-afk ponders the education recieved in the bath
20:35 tacomaster57 okay back
20:35 tacomaster57 coed bathroom
20:35 tacomaster57 sounds good to me
20:35 tacomaster57 until you realise how bad a womans shit stinks
20:36 katsmeow-afk what?
20:36 katsmeow-afk you been playing in shit?
20:36 haryv yes I saw it on ctv news.
20:36 tacomaster57 tacowarrior no!!!
20:39 tacomaster57 that should lead to a number of new pickup lines
20:39 tsmeow-afk makes a note to stay out of NE
20:40 tacomaster57 just stay out of ohio in general
20:41 katsmeow-afk specially Akron
20:41 tacomaster57 afk
20:41 tacomaster57 just stay out of specially akron
20:44 haryv wonder if its crime releated comment
20:57 haryv sooo
20:58 haryv can large printer servos and controlers be good enough to make a xy cnc table?
20:58 haryv router table
21:00 Tom_itx nema 23
21:01 Tom_itx if they're large enough
21:01 Tom_itx you may need to gear the servos down
21:03 haryv how do i know if they are nema 23?
21:03 Tom_itx i misread what the motors were
21:04 Tom_itx if they were steppers i'd suggest nema 23 size
21:04 Tom_itx you will probably need to gear the servos down
21:11 haryv so why 23?
21:12 orlok skidoo!
21:12 orlok because its everywhere
21:12 orlok FNORD!
21:12 haryv also, are the controlers that come with the steppers good to use? I mean, it does what all controlers do, take in binary info, provide a power up to the steppers and step the motors.
21:13 haryv ownly downside..no scematic to see which pin works for which input.
22:03 katsmeow-afk i wonder what the thermal responce of silicone goo is when it's so thick the tube bursts when squeezing it out with vise grips
22:20 sw0rdfish Is this guy cool or what? http://unitedstatesofawesome.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/obamawesome-3-500x448.jpg

23:17 rue_house :)
23:25 GuShH_ leroux: I don't know, I should ask katsmeow-afk on how to proceed with this conversation!
23:26 leroux =\
23:26 leroux Whatever.
23:26 leroux What environment do you use to work with vxworks?
23:29 rue_house kat I'm going to ask you a question
23:29 rue_house I'd like a creative answer, possibly overly so.
23:30 rue_house katsmeow-afk, what will you be doing this time next year?
23:31 katsmeow-afk no clue
23:31 rue_house ^^ ^^ ^^^^^^^ ^^
23:31 GuShH_ katsmeow-afk: you'll be extracting oxygen off the atmosphere!
23:31 rue_house would you try and answer that again pleeeeeeeeeeeeease?
23:31 katsmeow-afk i'll be selling boats that i make, while floating around in mine
23:32 rue_house sweet!
23:32 rue_house At this time next year, I wont need sleep cause I'll be a cyborg, I'll be independantly wealthy cause I'll have won the lottery, this house will be torn down and I'll be half way thru building the new house. As a side project I'll be half way thru finishing a small spaceship for taking little trips out to the moon and back, cause there's nothing like a 500km/hr cruze thru space.
23:33 katsmeow-afk oh
23:33 GuShH_ bah I've been given this discount card promoted by my isp but since I moved the account was closed and now I can't access the administration panel to obtain a new card :(
23:33 GuShH_ rue_house: can I have some of those drugs please?
23:34 rue_house their right under your nose
23:34 ShH_ pa
23:34 rue_house NONO NOT IN YOUR NOSE
23:34 rue_house :/ I dont know how to filter out directories in a recursive scp
23:35 tsmeow-afk unplugs the soldering iron because she's short 2 baby TO-220 heats
23:35 e_house tries to fit two to-220 heatsinks in a letter envelope addressed to
23:36 katsmeow-afk i have them, i have maybe 250 left, they are just not worth removing from the cable box pcbs this late at nite
23:36 e_house throws the failed evelope across the room and calmly looks forward like nothing happene
23:36 e_house bobs his head to the mu
23:36 katsmeow-afk nice brass heatsinks :-)

23:38 katsmeow-afk http://designerthinking.com/images/benchpsu/DSCF2961m.jpg
23:38 rue_house _n_ the legs? yesno?
23:39 katsmeow-afk no
23:39 rue_house ok
23:39 rue_house or does that just hold them
23:39 katsmeow-afk same situations as if i put them on a pcb, nothing fancy
23:39 katsmeow-afk however, the heatsinks can move a tiny bit
23:39 rue_house I like the heatshrink thing
23:41 katsmeow-afk the blue shrinkwrap has two thicknesses of tyraps (as insulator), and holds the heatsinks loosely together
23:42 katsmeow-afk see the tyraps more cl;early in http://designerthinking.com/images/benchpsu/DSCF2958m.jpg

23:45 rue_house I like this better
23:46 katsmeow-afk i don't, and you get only one for your $1
23:46 GuShH_ lol
23:46 katsmeow-afk "Davies" is 1950's guitar or amplifier, isn't it?
23:46 rue_house but I'll play with it for about a min, which is the entertainment I expect for my $1
23:46 rue_house I think so
23:47 GuShH_ actually http://www.ebay.ca/itm/3-x-Knob-Grey-Blue-Mark-Potentiometer-Pot-Free-Shipping-/140799456187
23:47 katsmeow-afk someone will laught in your face for the color
23:47 GuShH_ that's fairly good value
23:47 GuShH_ doesn't say what type of shaft they're for
23:48 GuShH_ they have them in all colours though
23:49 rue_house OOOOOOOOOOO
23:49 katsmeow-afk but can you do this to them? : http://designerthinking.com/images/benchpsu/DSCF2770m.jpg
23:49 rue_house 50 1/4W 0R resistors for $1
23:49 rue_house I dont have any 0R
23:49 GuShH_ lol
23:50 rue_house I like that better than the knob
23:52 GuShH_ rue_house: ever tried making a stirling engine?
23:53 rue_house no, I was never interested in the amount of energy you can get out of them
23:53 GuShH_ which is close to none
23:53 GuShH_ but nevertheless...
23:54 GuShH_ what's the next best thing, considering I don't have a lathe?
23:54 rue_house you can make a stirling engine from a few food cans and a soldering iron
23:54 rue_house and a sponge...
23:55 katsmeow-afk convert 2-cycle boat engines to steam
23:55 GuShH_ rue_house: question was, what's the next best thing to a stirling engine
23:55 rue_house a force thruster
23:56 ShH_ bl
23:56 rue_house erp, nevermind that
23:56 GuShH_ katsmeow-afk: why a boat engine?
23:56 rue_house yes, a boat engine
23:56 rue_house thats it
23:56 GuShH_ again, not looking to convert anything.
23:56 katsmeow-afk because they are 2-cycle, the cylinders hae bottom sleeve ports
23:58 GuShH_ always wanted a model diesel engine though
23:58 katsmeow-afk http://designerthinking.com/images/steam/IMG_1918m.jpg
23:59 katsmeow-afk needs some cleaning up
23:59 GuShH_ yey, rust
23:59 GuShH_ not too bad on carbon though
23:59 GuShH_ some scoring marks, what happened there?
23:59 katsmeow-afk roller bearings on the connecting rods
23:59 GuShH_ :<
