00:31 rue_livingrm so I need a little sata drive to put the OS on
00:32 rue_livingrm not sure how to build an arm OS on a drive
00:33 rue_livingrm hahah, the system monitor takes up 50% of the cpu on that laptop
00:34 katsmeow-afk the arms puters come with tiny amounts of program ram, and even less data ram
00:34 katsmeow-afk it's mind-bogglingly small, especially for a 32bit core
00:35 rue_livingrm I think its for 64M of general ram
00:37 katsmeow-afk i don't see where
00:55 tsmeow-afk looks for a nap she can
01:07 e_livingrm expl
01:13 rue_bed ahhh
01:14 rue_bed its a brighter screen
01:15 rue_bed well I didn't really have anything for supper
01:15 rue_bed some hash browns
01:15 rue_bed oh well
01:15 rue_bed !time
01:15 tobbor My watch says its 23:06 Fri Sep 07 2012
01:16 rue_bed hmm I should switch that to 24hr

01:23 rue_bed :)
01:23 rue_bed wooo
01:23 rue_bed I am a linux user, and I rock.
01:24 theos i rock too!
01:24 rue_bed I was just gonna say rocking alone sucks
01:24 theos :)
01:24 rue_bed typically linked to old age
01:25 theos a man is old when he thinks he is old
08:32 loanshark hello

10:42 rue_house hello
12:19 rue_mohr hmmm
13:14 katsmeow-afk usps did it again: drove a package out to me, didn't leave it, and i cannot get it till Monday, 48 hrs from now
13:15 tsmeow-afk debates doing soomething stupid like throwing the psu across the
13:33 rue_shop3 does ups do dropoff locations?
13:33 rue_shop3 is there a box you can get?
14:15 katsmeow-afk they wouldn't put it in the po box either
14:16 katsmeow-afk the problem is the dogs
14:16 katsmeow-afk AND I DO NOT HAVE DOGS
14:22 ace4016 usually you can pick it up from the office/store
14:22 ace4016 but...
14:22 ace4016 alabama seems to be one of those places everyone should avoid living in by kats description
14:23 katsmeow-afk yea,, i'm gonna drive down to Fla to the store and pick it up, it's only 14hrs each way
14:23 katsmeow-afk 6 tanks of gas
14:33 GuShH sweet home alabama... <song>
14:34 ace4016 there's no local USPS office?
14:35 ace4016 they usually leave it in the local office to where its going to be delivered >_>
14:35 katsmeow-afk yeas, and to always drive to town for packages they don't deliver is , in effect, a $6 fuel surcharge per package
14:36 GuShH do you drive a tank?
14:37 katsmeow-afk no, it's stop-n-go the, wtf do i need to justify that to you?
14:37 GuShH I can ask whatever I want
14:38 GuShH after all you keep whining about it all
14:38 katsmeow-afk i answered a question
14:38 GuShH with another question in this case
14:38 GuShH awesome
14:39 e4016 sighs and walks
15:03 eadthem anyone ever seen one of these before? http://www.veqtor.co.uk/1/1/p154/Treadwall.html
15:24 SavageSimian anybody here know where i can get a spice model for an l298 motor controller?
15:25 GuShH SavageSimian: why use such old parts for a new design?
15:25 GuShH they're obsolete
15:25 GuShH If the model isn't at their yahoo groups, then good luck.
15:25 GuShH (they have two groups)
15:26 SavageSimian GuShH: because i'd rather use parts from my junk drawer then blow money on stuff i don't need...
15:26 GuShH fair 'nuf
15:26 GuShH my answer still applies, there's a repository and that's it... then some random models in various forums, but no serious database anywhere
15:27 SavageSimian ok. ty.
15:29 ShH doubts a model ex
15:36 eadthem dont expect to find spice models for chips like that
15:36 eadthem you can try the LTspice yahoo group
15:37 SavageSimian eadthem: ty. i'm a bit surprised. it's not like it's a complicated design.
15:37 eadthem ya try the yahoo group
15:37 eadthem they might have one
15:38 SavageSimian i don't have any experience creating spice scripts but i might give it a shot if i can't find anything.
15:51 eadthem what exactly do you want to do
15:51 eadthem i mean the whole thing
15:51 eadthem not just the spice
15:52 SavageSimian i've got about a dozen L298's and a couple dozen L293's (low current) and lots of motors. the immediate goal is to hook some motors up to a compound table. long term mostly robot arms and such.
15:53 GuShH the datasheets are plenty good
15:53 GuShH you'll get it up and running with them
15:53 eadthem all im saying is maby spice isnt what you need
15:53 eadthem maby you need to make your design moduleler
15:54 eadthem setup a board for the L298 and L293 make them work well using signal generated inputs
15:54 SavageSimian yea. i have the sheets. i don't really have a problem with the IC's or the motor control. i just want to be able to model.
15:54 eadthem or dum inputs
15:54 SavageSimian i already have working circuits based on the propeller microcontroller...
15:55 eadthem the reason i said that you probably cant find a model for it, is because you also cannot find a good or close to accurate stepper motor model
15:55 eadthem sense there arnt any motor models then there isnt a depand for driver models
15:55 eadthem demand
15:57 SavageSimian really? is there any reason there are no motor models? i mean, i get the noise, and range of load characteristics but i'm surprised there aren't some fairly generic motor models that you could plug parameters into...
15:59 SavageSimian ok. here's one motor model: http://www.ecircuitcenter.com/circuits/dc_motor_model/dcmotor_model.htm
15:59 SavageSimian probably more out there. haven't really looked.

17:31 rue_mohr ok
17:31 e_mohr sits down to do somet
17:31 rue_mohr whats to do beyond zero
17:34 rue_mohr I'm supposed to make a state machine for running the 3d printers steppers
17:36 rue_mohr theBear how many watts does it take to blow a 20W speaker?
17:37 Tom_itx 1 more than it can take
17:38 Tom_itx more the question would ask also at what frequency
17:38 rue_mohr I suspect a 20W speaker cant take near 20W
17:39 ace4016 20W speakers can't take 20W of power oddly enough :P
17:39 rue_mohr is there a rule of thumb?
17:39 ace4016 there is, but i forgot it...think it mentions in in "the art of electronics"
17:40 rue_mohr your stuttering too
17:40 ace4016 it in*
17:40 ace4016 :P
17:40 rue_mohr sure sure
17:40 ace4016 time to go grocery shopping...adios
17:40 rue_mohr thats not what your fingers said
17:40 rue_mohr audios
19:39 katsmeow-afk what's the part called that mounts on the edge, or over holes in, a pcb, to set down over a header, like a arduino "shield" ?
19:41 eadthem photo?
19:41 eadthem standoff?
19:45 katsmeow-afk "female pin header"?
19:47 katsmeow-afk https://www.sparkfun.com/products/115 <<== but they aren't stackable
19:49 katsmeow-afk no one is using the word "stackable" to mean same as me: it should mean i can put more than one pcb down over a set of pins
19:59 katsmeow-afk http://www.gct.co/connector/?series=BB060
19:59 katsmeow-afk http://www.gct.co/connector/?series=BC084
20:08 eadthem mmm ya i dont think they make them that are directly stackable
20:08 eadthem 2 boards togethery yes
20:08 katsmeow-afk http://www.weiku.com/products/10284719/1_27mm_SMT_Female_Header_Single_Row_with_Cap_and_Phosphor_Bronze_Contact.html
20:08 eadthem but mmmm SMT they could be directly stackable as many boards as you want i guess
20:09 katsmeow-afk with the dual entry stackable female header, you can mash as many such pcb onto a set of male nails as will fit
20:10 katsmeow-afk a "stacking" header != "stackable" header, people are misusing the word "stackable"
20:10 eadthem ya
20:10 katsmeow-afk http://www.weiku.com/products/5797351/2_54mm_Female_Header_Single_Dual_Row_H_5_0_SMT_type.html
20:10 katsmeow-afk http://img.weiku.com/waterpicture/2011/10/19/4/2_54mm_Female_Header_Single_Dual_Row_H_5_0_SMT_type_634545971705697413_1.jpg
20:11 katsmeow-afk see, the pins can pass thru, the pcb can be pushed down (or positioned anywhere along the pin length), and anotehr pcb stacked on
20:11 eadthem stackable if you solder a male to female or put 1 of each on each side of the board
20:11 eadthem ahhh
20:11 eadthem right it can come up thrue the bottom
20:12 katsmeow-afk i have a few somewhere, but i was thinking i could use a few
20:12 eadthem something i see a lot of hard drives do
20:12 katsmeow-afk yeas, some connectors on the case of a hd pass thru the female header on the pcb
20:12 eadthem which on some hdd's means it goes thrue the pcb to get there
20:13 katsmeow-afk yes
20:13 katsmeow-afk you can passthru a stack of pcb anywhere thru the pcb
20:21 katsmeow-afk this is top or bottom entry, so it's passthru : http://www.ebay.com/itm/5Pcs-Pitch-1-27mm-Female-2x30-Pin-60-Pin-SMT-Double-Row-Pin-Header-Strip-/180882874691?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1d75a143
20:22 katsmeow-afk but they come 1/2 that height too, those look like they are made for an older dip ic pcb, not smd chips
20:22 katsmeow-afk now to find really long nails
20:22 katsmeow-afk well, later...
20:26 eadthem man i just went to put away the rest of my grocerys and found that they bagged the biscut dough with the cans
20:27 eadthem its been out for 7 hours
20:34 eadthem http://www.veqtor.co.uk/1/1/p154/Continuous_Vertical_Climbs.html
20:34 eadthem so anyone have any thoughts on how they control the speed?
20:35 ace4016 hand placement
20:36 ace4016 faster you place your hands and feet, faster it goes
20:36 eadthem k
20:36 eadthem so for something that has no motors
20:36 eadthem and no electronics
20:36 ace4016 just a guess though
20:36 eadthem how dose it sense your hands
20:36 ace4016 ah
20:36 ace4016 might be a weight balance thing then :P
20:36 eadthem im thinking that the bottom 1/4 has friction or something close to that
20:37 eadthem so im thinking if you hang by your hands the result would be it would move
20:39 ace4016 maybe there is a weight adjustment?
20:50 eadthem well atm im plotting to build 1
20:50 eadthem 8 x 12 foot
20:51 eadthem i was thinking of off the bottom cylender for the boards, i use a belt or chain on each end to increase the speed to a 2nd shaft, and then put a small disk break on each side
20:52 eadthem hook that up to a rope, the more you pull up on the rope the less it breaks
