00:00 katsmeow-afk me too : tar and pour-on latex
00:01 katsmeow-afk it can be walkedon, but it cold flows, so cannot set anuyting on it for long, and nothing heavy
00:01 rue_mohr mine is torch-on rolled-out roofing
00:01 katsmeow-afk rollout is pretty durable, no?
00:02 rue_mohr I'm satisfied with it, there is a 3/16 or so membrane under it (torched on too) along with its 3/16 or so tickness
00:02 rue_mohr its an ashfault-like finish
00:02 rue_mohr ashfault-shingle-like
00:02 katsmeow-afk ouch, i'd get non-gritty
00:03 katsmeow-afk the grits come loose and damage stuff
00:03 rue_mohr ok I"m gonna strip down the commercial laserjet that every clutch has failed in
00:03 rue_mohr its taking up a lot of space
00:03 katsmeow-afk when i first asked about rubber roll roofing here, everone laughed at me and said it doesn't exist, now they just want too much for it
00:03 rue_mohr oh :( it holds up the welding mask and cables
00:05 katsmeow-afk i'd need a 32x24 piece, with enough at the edges to run up the side walls
00:05 katsmeow-afk but i hope i am not living here that long
00:06 rue_shop3 the pile of fusors on this printer makes me suspect the clutches weren't its only problem
00:07 rue_shop3 linear power supplies from vcr's and ... things.... IS there any point in me kieeping them?
00:07 rue_shop3 I kinda go from wallwart to switching supply
00:08 katsmeow-afk you're asking me? i have 300 cable tv boxes!
00:08 katsmeow-afk actually, the pcbs from them i returned the steel boxes
00:09 katsmeow-afk i wish i knew how to operate all those tuners, i could make spectrum analysers
00:09 rue_shop3 oh right, all the pickup rollers turned to goo also, gee nowonder I never fixed this thing
00:10 katsmeow-afk ouch
00:10 katsmeow-afk that happened to some fine tape decks too
00:10 katsmeow-afk i wonder why
00:10 rue_mohr the shop has no place for rags
00:10 katsmeow-afk good, oily rags combust
00:11 rue_shop3 :/ a box of floppy drives
00:11 rue_shop3 seriously... I think I can be done with them
00:11 rue_shop3 I have 3 piles of floppy drives
00:12 katsmeow-afk steppers, memories?
00:12 rue_shop3 even _I_ cant think of much use for 1.44M
00:12 katsmeow-afk glue them together in bricks as soundproofing
00:13 katsmeow-afk weather is starting
00:13 rue_shop3 box of parts for the mecha
00:13 rue_shop3 katsmeow-afk, time for a wind turbine?
00:14 katsmeow-afk past time, too much work to put one up and then go boating
00:15 katsmeow-afk cost, etc,, the winds here can be stong, blow tops outs of trees, etc
00:15 rue_shop3 verticle
00:15 rue_shop3 oh god, ther eis another laser behind it
00:15 katsmeow-afk still must be gy'd
00:15 katsmeow-afk guy'd
00:16 rue_shop3 1Mh 100A inductor
00:16 rue_shop3 sorry 1mH
00:16 rue_shop3 I just found a lost robot
00:17 rue_shop3 maybe I shoudl clean up more often
00:17 katsmeow-afk heh
00:17 katsmeow-afk "my robot crawled into the printer case and died"
00:22 rue_shop3 ooo it had a brand new toner cartridge
00:23 rue_shop3 :)
00:24 rue_shop3 these have been waiting about 5 years for a rainy day for me to repair them
00:24 rue_shop3 and now I'm gonna strip them
00:25 rue_shop3 this one was diagnosed 2002
00:26 katsmeow-afk i have things like that, now that i cannot get parts for them, or don't have anything to plug them into
00:26 rue_shop3 I think this one has a new cartridge too
00:26 katsmeow-afk bought 2 AMD cpu and mobo for them, got arrested over dogs, and never touched them again
00:27 katsmeow-afk cpu still in box
00:28 rue_shop3 QMS PS825MR too bad, better than any small lser obtainable today
00:28 rue_shop3 hmmm
00:30 katsmeow-afk shame aboutthe rollers, can't even useit to mash paper to the pcb
00:31 rue_shop3 aha, its temp sensor is o/c
00:32 rue_shop3 or not
00:32 rue_shop3 1.2M seems a little high for cold resistance
00:35 katsmeow-afk the weather is about to turn red here http://classic.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=BMX
00:36 katsmeow-afk tv is saying something about tornadoes, bbl
00:54 rue_shop3 oh there is a 200cd cd jukebox here too
00:54 rue_shop3 oh I was going to put a dvd rw in that
00:57 rue_shop3 haha I found the roll of masking paper
01:03 rue_shop3 what do I do with 1600A SCRs?
01:11 rue_shop3 under the pile of wire there is a box
01:26 katsmeow-afk zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
03:01 rue_mohr I think I just borred kat to sleep
03:44 rue_mohr hackkitten
03:46 rue_shop3 http://www.totalplastics.com/products/424
04:12 rue_house !assist images/p1040593.jpg
04:12 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/images/p1040593.jpg
04:12 rue_house katsmeow-afk, ^^^^ its the grinder stand
04:17 hackkitten hi rue_mohr :o
04:17 rue_house hello
04:22 hackkitten :)
05:53 rue_house hahahahaha someone took the free sign for the stuff I had at the end of the driveway
05:53 rue_house THEY TOOK THE SIGN!
05:53 rue_house hahahahahahaha
05:56 chris_99 hehe
05:59 theBear hehehe
13:13 rue_livingrm todays ebey item was PH test strips, I'v tested about everything I can think of
13:22 Tom_itx no work today?
13:22 Tom_itx did you pass the pee test?
13:25 Skwint I thought of something else he could test :p
13:43 rue_house holiday today
13:43 rue_house ok I didn't say I thought of everything
13:44 rue_house I sid I tested everything I could think of
13:44 rue_house I got 6 packages yesterday
13:45 rue_house thats enough to last me like a week
13:55 GuShH_ rue_house: you should get a twitter account
13:58 delinquentme what are the options for inter-robot connections?
13:59 delinquentme communication
13:59 delinquentme i2c
13:59 delinquentme is there a high-speed options?
13:59 ace4016 i thought i2c could be high speed...what would be high speed info needed to be transmitted?
13:59 ace4016 how fast do you need it?
13:59 katsmeow-afk video
14:00 rue_shop3 yea, use channel 3 and make a video feed
14:00 rue_shop3 tuners just got REALLY easy to find
14:00 ace4016 video can be outputted directly to a processor via the sensor units output options
14:01 rue_shop3 dont ask me about trnsmitters, I'm still working on that
14:01 ace4016 the motors don't need to process the entire video feed
14:01 ace4016 so you can select the high badnwidth/speed line based on what the sensor is outputing (almost selects it for you) to your processor
14:02 rue_shop3 somewhere I have a schematic for data encoding and decoding for video
14:02 rue_shop3 russians used it to store data on video tapes
14:02 ace4016 encoding/decoding seems like a storage thing :P
14:02 katsmeow-afk combine all the sensors to one feed from the robot, and put all the servo commands on a feed to the robot
14:02 rue_shop3 dosn't have to be
14:02 ace4016 need to process it to be useful
14:03 rue_shop3 or blow $5 and get a 2.4Ghz transponder set
14:03 katsmeow-afk i have ~300 tuners, and no data on how to hook them up
14:03 rue_shop3 kat, do they have seperate tuner modules?
14:04 katsmeow-afk yep
14:05 rue_shop3 I need to highgrade the bucket of plug-cords, its getting too much
14:05 katsmeow-afk but many difefrent ones
14:06 rue_shop3 3 lines are serial data connection, one is 5V one is ~30V two are prolly just linked cause their IF in/out
14:06 rue_shop3 how many pins does that leave?
14:06 rue_shop3 if you plug it into an i2c port on linux it can autodetect the PLL chip
14:07 katsmeow-afk i dunno, all differeent, i haven't spent *any* time on them because i have zero data, altho i have asked repeatedly for help
14:07 rue_shop3 would you take some pics of them?
14:08 katsmeow-afk sure, when i can move around again later
14:08 rue_mohr ok
14:08 rue_mohr wow, I did a humm-dinger on the shop
14:08 rue_mohr there is actually floorspace
14:10 rue_house kat, did you know that an LED will generate up to about 1.4V (at no appreciable current) in sunlight?
14:10 katsmeow-afk so will a transistor if you dissolve the black stuff off it,, which is why they are covered in black stuff
14:11 rue_house oh, what do I use to dissolve it?
14:11 katsmeow-afk i forget,, HF, praps, nasty stuff
14:12 rue_house wont that take away the copper and tin too?
14:12 katsmeow-afk i said i dunno, perhaps
14:12 rue_house ah
14:13 rue_house I suppose its easier if the transistor is in a metal can and you can file the top off
14:13 rue_house too bad they dont do that now eh? :)
14:13 katsmeow-afk to-3 are metals
14:14 katsmeow-afk many olde metals showing up on ebay
14:17 GuShH_ katsmeow-afk: hey if you remove the top you get a free phototransistor!
14:18 katsmeow-afk i got ~100 CdS cells, and 1000's optocouplers
14:18 katsmeow-afk 300 optocouplers in the cableboxes
14:18 GuShH_ and?
14:18 katsmeow-afk so i do not need to file away transistors
14:19 GuShH_ the exclamation suggests it was merely a curiosity.
14:19 katsmeow-afk i do not understand human interactions
14:19 GuShH_ that could be the reason why so many people outside of IRC hate you...
14:20 GuShH_ you know who I hate? customs.
14:20 GuShH_ they left me a dirty piece of paper saying I wasn't around to receive a package, so I have to go fetch it at the post office
14:20 GuShH_ when I go there (1 hour in line) they hand me another piece of paper...
14:21 GuShH_ saying I have to get my ass to customs (10:00 to 12:30, monday to thursday) ... the hell?
14:21 GuShH_ oh, and it's a 70KM trip.
14:22 GuShH_ had they left me that paper I would've went today, but now I wasted a few hours and I still got nothing, plus I'll have to pay customs on it! all for a tiny pcb I need to fix an lcd of mine
14:22 GuShH_ :(
14:26 katsmeow-afk "address does not exist, gave item to someone else, item delivered"
14:32 delinquentme is a multi-master serial single-ended computer bus invented by Philips that is used to attach low-speed peripherals to a motherboard,
14:32 delinquentme yeah so IDK how low-speed that actually is but
14:33 rue_house katsmeow-afk, thats with the new signage too eh?
14:33 rue_house b etter send them a pic of the signs
14:34 katsmeow-afk not yet
14:34 katsmeow-afk but my addy signes *before* were 3x the size of the neighbor's signs
14:34 rue_house yup
14:35 katsmeow-afk but they couldn't see them, 3 signs, 3x as big, so going to 30x as big seemed reasonable
14:36 rue_house maybe if you shoot out their tires they will stop long enough to think about where they are
14:36 katsmeow-afk possibly, but what if they really do not have a package for me, and have one for the neighbors?
14:44 tsmeow-afk ponders killing two birds with one stone: giving in to gravity on the bed and examining the inside of her eye
14:58 rue_mohr you went to bed early last night
14:58 rue_mohr couldn't have been later than 3am over there
14:58 katsmeow-afk i was exhausted
14:58 katsmeow-afk i am sore today
14:59 katsmeow-afk i had 2 things i wanted to get done over the weekedn: built legs fora table (got the 2x4's), and play with that genny ; but i got neither done
15:01 rue_mohr do you rememebr I spke of the three types of tasks?
15:03 katsmeow-afk no
15:06 rue_mohr there are 3 types of tasks, those that get you caught up to zero (like repairing things you need to be using), staying at zero (things that have to be done on a regular basis to maintain life, like doing the laundry) , and things that get you above zero (things that reduce the need for the other two on an ongoing basis)
15:07 rue_mohr well, the goal of it all is what I worked out yesterday
15:07 rue_mohr the goal is to live a life where all you have to do is whatever you want to do
15:08 delinquentme rue_mohr, i like this take .
15:08 katsmeow-afk oh, yeas
15:08 katsmeow-afk i wore myself out staying at zero
15:08 rue_mohr I have a 1 input, 4 output video distribution amp, I wanted to turn it into an audio source selector, but its not suitable
15:08 e_mohr reassmeble
15:09 rue_mohr kat, I dont know if it helps, but I suppose being aware is half the battle
15:09 katsmeow-afk relays,, you could still use it as line buffering amplifres
15:12 rue_mohr always
15:13 rue_mohr I been trying to classify what I do so I can preoritize the above-zero stuff
15:17 rue_mohr sometimes the above zero stuff can invalidate pending tasks of the other types
15:20 katsmeow-afk not here
15:21 katsmeow-afk zero stuff eats my limited energy and builds local negative energy
15:23 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/reprap/drive1.jpg
15:23 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/reprap/drive2.jpg
15:23 rue_shop3 nice
15:24 rue_shop3 whats the ridge depth?
15:24 Tom_itx i used an M4 tap and calculated the drill to use for it and went half it's depth
15:25 katsmeow-afk how did you not breakit with only sideways force on it!?
15:25 Tom_itx careful planning
15:25 katsmeow-afk ok
15:25 Tom_itx i held the tap in the lathe chuck
15:26 Tom_itx and made a fixture to feed the part into it with the crosslide
15:26 katsmeow-afk you just faux knurrling it, or going to use it as a worm drive?
15:26 katsmeow-afk knurling
15:27 Tom_itx huh?
15:27 Tom_itx oh worm drive
15:27 Tom_itx sorta
15:27 rue_shop3 :) I'v hearsd machinists do it like that
15:27 Tom_itx the part turned as it threaded
15:27 Tom_itx once things were centered it went easy
15:27 wizaqua anyone have a good article on manufacturing reprap parts that are not the plastic?
15:27 rue_shop3 ton, small filament is only 1.75mm dia
15:27 Tom_itx but i was advised to use 3mm
15:27 rue_shop3 wizaqua, I have a link somewhere of a sheetmetal one
15:28 Tom_itx i could make one for 1.75
15:28 rue_mohr yes, I needed to get a thermostat
15:28 Tom_itx if you want one
15:28 rue_mohr I'm using 3mm
15:28 Tom_itx if i can get a tap
15:28 Tom_itx you want one of these?
15:28 rue_mohr I made one
15:28 rue_mohr I did a bolt
15:28 Tom_itx i didn't final ream the hole yet
15:28 Tom_itx ok
15:29 Tom_itx i think the shaft will be 5mm but i'm not sure
15:34 rue_mohr I need to get stepper drivers togethor
15:34 Tom_itx me too
15:34 rue_mohr its a nice day and I'm melting
15:34 Tom_itx but need funds first
15:35 Tom_itx it was damn hot in the garage
15:35 rue_mohr what design did youbase the feeder on? I'v not seen one that uses a seperate pulley for hte feed
15:35 rue_mohr maybe more tea
15:35 rue_mohr and lunch
15:35 rue_mohr mmm
15:36 rue_mohr the deck is piling up with stripdown stuff
15:36 Tom_itx Temp: 104.0 F (40.0 C)
15:36 rue_mohr I want to set up sensors on the doors of the house, I went to a lot of work to get the cats in and there was a door open
15:37 rue_mohr have a pictoral with lights in the hall maybe
15:48 delinquentme so writing to i2c registers is just like ... packing up binary encodings?
15:48 delinquentme im looking at an example with a 8 1 byte registers
15:48 delinquentme and its seems just like " send 8 bits down the line " ... " send another 8 bites down the line "
15:48 delinquentme and this is just how it works?
15:50 delinquentme like here http://www2.neufeld.newton.ks.us/images/electronics/2008/05/26/PCA9535-figure-6.png
15:50 delinquentme you're sending out 8 bits .. waiting for acknowledgement
15:51 delinquentme rinse and repeat
16:30 chris_99 what are you using delinquentme
16:30 chris_99 a PIC, AVR?
16:31 delinquentme arduino with a atmega 328
16:31 delinquentme arduino uno
16:32 chris_99 aha, i guess that supports i2c directly, have a look @ their documentation
16:32 chris_99 it's probably a case of just fill a particular register
16:32 chris_99 *filling
16:34 chris_99 http://arduino.cc/en/Reference/WireWrite
17:14 rue_mohr I made a sundial but nobodys adjusted the sun for DST
17:14 rue_mohr :)
17:15 rue_shop3 I started today by getting a bunch of sawdust down my shirt, its not turning out to be a good thing
17:44 rue_house http://cheaper-furniture.com/img/posture_kneeling_chair.jpg i think these ones did their homework kat
18:09 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/reprap/drive4.jpg

18:18 Burninate 'Evening
18:19 Burninate What are the best resources (wiki or otherwise) for this sort of thing?
18:21 DagoRed Robotics?
18:23 Burninate yes
18:24 Burninate operating systems, actuator strategies, sensor strategies, locmotive strategies, etc
18:32 Jora Creating a robot to take over the world?
18:32 Burninate Creating a wiki for Skynet
18:33 DagoRed Burninate: I think I've seen you around here before. And overall.... a lot of the concepts are pretty straight forward.
18:33 DagoRed The biggest reason why robotics isn't straight forward is that everything is so application dependent.
18:33 Burninate So far I've been accumulating knowledge, links, and videos targetted at hobbyist-grade UAVs, with a number of tangential concepts
18:34 Burninate I'm occasionally finding interesting stuff on land or water vehicles as well
18:34 Tom_itx http://www.huv.com/uSeeker/index.html
18:34 Tom_itx that one?
18:35 Burninate http://www.dronepedia.com/index.php?title=UMV
18:36 Burninate It's got a pretty uneven distribution of topics
18:36 Burninate but at least having a place to dump non-aerial topics would be a good thing to establish
18:36 Burninate and for that I need a decent overview of simply *what these topics are even called*
18:37 DagoRed Burninate: There is always hackaday.
18:38 Burninate and WP
18:39 Burninate I don't think this can be virgin ground, though - surely there is some big robotics community somewhere out there?
18:40 Burninate that isn't just a popular blog
18:40 Burninate forums? wiki? something like that
18:41 orlok societyofrobots, letsmakerobots
18:41 orlok also, hi again.
18:42 Burninate hey
18:47 Burninate thanks, these look good
19:35 rue_shop3 ok I got a thermometer to calibrate the reprap against
19:38 atom1 rue_shop3, did you see the SS one i did?
19:38 rue_shop3 no
19:39 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/reprap/drive4.jpg
19:39 Tom_itx <Tom_itx> http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/reprap/drive5.jpg
19:40 rue_shop3 ah, thought you meant an extruder head, but cool
19:40 Tom_itx oh
19:40 Tom_itx no
19:40 Tom_itx that wouldn't be so good on a hot end
19:41 Tom_itx thermal properties are bad for SS on that
19:42 rue_shop3 http://www.ebay.com/itm/TM-902C-Digital-LCD-K-Type-Thermometer-Meter-Single-Input-Thermocouple-Probe-/200799978453?pt=US_Weather_Meters&hash=item2ec09c83d5
19:42 rue_shop3 ...wtf?
19:43 Tom_itx ahh i got a similar probe
19:43 Tom_itx i nearly forgot
19:43 Tom_itx velleman meter
19:43 Tom_itx a cheapo i got as a spare
19:46 Tom_itx rue_shop3, what did you get done today?
19:46 rue_shop3 uh
19:47 Tom_itx man i thought our hot weather was gone for the year
19:48 Tom_itx have you run any heat tests on your head yet?
19:52 katsmeow-afk Issac is in Kentucky now, and rain is overflowing here
19:52 Tom_itx that is good.. no?
19:53 katsmeow-afk if it was spread out days apart, but it rained hard last nite, and again today
19:53 katsmeow-afk http://classic.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=BMX
19:54 Tom_itx but your creek is full right/
19:54 Tom_itx ?
19:54 katsmeow-afk they are saying by tomorrw, 2.5 inches here, and altho they are never correct, over an inch per day just runs off
19:54 katsmeow-afk i have not been down there
19:55 katsmeow-afk i am sure it has water in it
19:55 Tom_itx those parts were a fun afternoon project
19:55 Tom_itx i'd never tried that before
19:56 katsmeow-afk stretchy horizons
19:57 katsmeow-afk (trying and doing new things)
19:57 tsmeow-afk h
20:11 goRed stretc
20:37 rue_shop3 I just *happened* to convince myself to rewire the light in the canopy of the truck
20:37 rue_shop3 while I was doing so I *just happened* to notice the canopy was loose
20:37 rue_shop3 3/4 bolts holding it ON were out and the 4th was half way unscrewed
20:37 Tom_itx woops
20:38 rue_shop3 a big bump would have been a problem
20:38 Tom_itx topper?
20:38 rue_shop3 leer I think
20:38 Tom_itx mine only had 5/16" bolts holding it
20:38 Tom_itx continental
20:38 rue_shop3 mine has 4x 1/4"
20:38 Tom_itx local company
20:38 rue_shop3 I made it easy to get on/off by using linknuts that can be reached easier
20:39 rue_shop3 pretty sure I always torque them down, I should get some locknuts for them
20:39 Tom_itx i hung mine inside the garage from straps
20:39 Tom_itx very easy to remove
20:39 rue_mohr and with that I should work on the reprap!
20:39 Tom_itx i was gonna nap
20:39 Tom_itx until bedtime
20:39 Tom_itx :)
20:40 Tom_itx you think an ibm stepper is strong enough to feed the filament?
20:40 Tom_itx i'm not even sure what size they are
20:40 rue_mohr not hte floopy one no
20:41 Tom_itx are they NEMA17?
20:41 Tom_itx or 14?
20:41 rue_mohr you want the big 17's outa impact printers I think
20:41 rue_mohr er
20:41 rue_mohr 17, the others I have are 23
20:41 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/motors/stepper4.jpg
20:41 rue_mohr I'm gonna make a 23 machine as an early project
20:42 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/motors/stepper1.jpg
20:42 rue_mohr look at the core size on the floppy ones, its sad
20:42 Tom_itx i got the ones i took off the mill i could use too
20:42 rue_mohr I see why they do bipolar too, more pwoer for the size
20:42 Tom_itx those are 23's
20:43 Tom_itx bipolar parallel
20:43 Tom_itx is how i wired my hybrids
20:43 rue_mohr I need to work out my drivers so I can make sequencers
20:44 rue_mohr does that work with unipolar steppers?
20:44 Tom_itx did you load the arduino software?
20:44 Tom_itx what?
20:44 rue_mohr I'v heard of but not tried it
20:44 rue_mohr yes, its running
20:44 Tom_itx how do you load a project?
20:44 rue_mohr I could even connect to it, but I had to change to a std baud, 19200
20:44 Tom_itx and suck in all the files for it?
20:44 rue_mohr I just surfed and opened
20:44 rue_mohr there was a project file in mine
20:44 Tom_itx i was gonna look at one of the softwares out there
20:45 Tom_itx i got one
20:45 Tom_itx and had it loaded once
20:45 rue_mohr you CANNOT use the latest arduino env tho
20:45 rue_mohr you have to use 0.23
20:45 Tom_itx but couldn't repeat it
20:45 Tom_itx i got the one they suggested
20:45 rue_mohr mine went funny, I had to delete and re-unpack it
20:45 rue_mohr damn I have 3 hours left
20:46 Tom_itx marlin
20:46 rue_mohr yep
20:46 Tom_itx that was it
20:46 Tom_itx how do i load that?
20:46 rue_mohr if you get an error about missing paramiters to delay, delete and re'get' all the files
20:46 rue_mohr uh
20:46 rue_mohr I have notes I think
20:46 Tom_itx i started their gui
20:47 Tom_itx now what?
20:47 rue_mohr well you need the marlin files first
20:47 Tom_itx i got em
20:48 Tom_L i loaded one file once and it brought them all in but i forgot how i did it
20:48 rue_mohr brose to them, ther will be 3 projects, open the one called marlin
20:48 Tom_L and even had it compiled
20:49 Tom_L oh ok
20:49 e_mohr tries to t
20:49 Tom_L do i edit the makefile to change chips?
20:49 Tom_L and do i use the marlin bootloader?
20:49 rue_mohr oh, I cast the roller for bendng the pipe, it didn't come out great
20:49 Tom_L or wtf?
20:50 rue_mohr no, when you open the project there will be a bunch of files in tabs, the frst two are config files
20:50 Tom_L right
20:50 Tom_L i see that
20:50 rue_mohr you select the target board type and the programmer
20:50 rue_mohr then it should be able to compile and upload
20:50 Tom_L k but my usb is fucked up on this pc for avrdude
20:50 Tom_L so i'll have to use it on another one
20:51 rue_mohr I ended up with a genuine arduino, so I dont know how to load it cold to an avr
20:51 Tom_L it's the whole libusb driver issue
20:51 Tom_L i will likely get a 2560
20:51 rue_mohr I have the 2560
20:51 Tom_L i have 2 of those chips here but o board
20:51 rue_mohr $22 finished board
20:51 Tom_L no*
20:51 Tom_L where?
20:51 rue_mohr not even worth me trying to make one
20:51 Tom_L ebay?
20:51 rue_mohr ebay
20:51 Tom_L i noticed
20:52 rue_mohr I know neither of us could beat that in effort
20:52 Tom_L arey you gonna make your own stepper drivers?
20:52 Tom_L not from china
20:52 rue_mohr and its a generic board, so I have no desire for customizations
20:52 rue_mohr the shield however...
20:52 rue_mohr custom stepper drives, yes
20:52 rue_mohr just looking at that now
20:52 rue_mohr I have a few optins
20:53 Tom_L that newer allegro chip is good
20:53 Tom_L not the 88 everybody uses
20:53 Tom_L but nobody has a board for it just yet
20:53 Tom_L it just became available at digikey
20:53 rue_mohr do you or mrs _L know why my cooking thermometer came with a "stepdown tube" ?
20:54 Tom_L stepdown?
20:54 e_mohr glances to
20:54 rue_mohr thats what they call it
20:54 e_mohr sh
20:54 Tom_L no
20:54 Tom_L got a pic?
20:55 Tom_L glass thermometer?
20:55 rue_mohr it looks like a mechanical eraser without the eraser bit
20:55 Tom_L in a cooking tube?
20:55 rue_mohr cooking tube?
20:55 rue_mohr its removable
20:55 Tom_L maybe just to protect it?
20:55 Tom_L i had one of those from a job i used to have
20:56 rue_mohr I have allegro A3977SED from puff-n-stuff
20:56 Tom_L it came in an aluminum tube
20:56 rue_mohr LB1845 from .... Lexmark :)
20:56 Tom_L with a pocket clip on it
20:57 rue_mohr STK6712BMK4 from...... ..... RICOH?
20:57 Tom_L http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/A4982SLPTR-T/620-1352-1-ND/2295513
20:57 rue_mohr and a bunch of STK7024M from various
20:57 rue_mohr ^^^ "I have"
20:58 rue_mohr I'm $300 in so far, trying to stay in the shallows
20:58 Tom_L i'm at $0 so far
20:58 e_mohr bills tom $100 for two rolls of 3mm fila
20:59 Tom_L brb
20:59 e_mohr bills tom $22 for an arduino
21:00 rue_mohr I think the 22' of threaded rod, 100 nuts, 100 washers will set you back about $50
21:01 Tom_L those stupid bearings i put in the washer are going already
21:01 Tom_L cheapass junk
21:05 rue_mohr oh yea like 20 608 bearings too
21:05 Tom_L what are those for?
21:05 rue_mohr put some good ones in, now that you know what they are
21:05 Tom_L i feel i nee one or two of them
21:05 Tom_L need*
21:05 rue_mohr all the bearings in them are 608
21:05 rue_mohr there are...
21:05 rue_mohr oh maybe I got extra
21:05 rue_mohr you need
21:05 Tom_L mine are gonna be linear
21:06 Tom_L i need one or two. one for the extruder
21:06 Tom_L i got a few here but nothing that small i think
21:06 Tom_L or way too small
21:06 rue_mohr ther are 6 on this machine
21:06 rue_mohr 3 for the extruder head
21:06 Tom_L 3?
21:06 Tom_L wtf for?
21:06 rue_mohr !assist projects/reprap
21:06 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap
21:06 Tom_L oh it's gear reduced
21:07 Tom_L 2 for the shaft and one for the tensioner
21:07 rue_mohr yea...
21:07 Tom_L i was gonna go direct drive
21:07 Tom_L with a tensioner bearing
21:08 Tom_itx http://brainspl.at/mm-pro-xcar-xstrudah/index.html
21:08 Tom_L i kinda liked that one
21:08 rue_mohr you can pull the rod from old impact printers
21:08 rue_mohr bah, your building a different one
21:09 Tom_L not sure it matters much
21:09 Tom_L i'm just making parts for the heck of it right now
21:09 rue_mohr your making the tripod one?
21:09 Tom_L i'd like to
21:09 rue_mohr I dont know if marlin can control that
21:09 Tom_L there's alot of interest in it now
21:10 Tom_L there's a mod for it i believe
21:10 Tom_L they said
21:10 Tom_L that must be why i got it
21:10 Tom_L don't remember now
21:10 rue_mohr huh, I didn't take any pics of the extruder head
21:10 rue_mohr er, feeder
21:10 Tom_L that's why i was gonna go thru those files
21:10 rue_mohr 2.5 hours left
21:11 Tom_L you mustuv been off today too
21:11 rue_mohr yes
21:12 Tom_L everybody quit sampling parts since the economy tanked
21:12 Tom_L i was gonna try to get a 3 or 4 of those drivers
21:12 rue_mohr its STILL tanking over there?
21:12 Tom_L i dunno
21:12 rue_mohr if I, me, and myself could agree on current control I would just make drivers
21:12 Tom_L it's not recovering very well if it isn't
21:13 Tom_L i wish the geckos were cheap
21:13 rue_shop3 I'm agreeable but your ideas are dumb
21:13 Tom_L they are kick ass
21:13 rue_mohr whatever
21:13 rue_mohr I dont want a chip smaller than my fingernail pinkey controlling the motors
21:13 Tom_L umm
21:13 Tom_L lemme see something here
21:13 rue_mohr AND they parallel wire motors on a current based stepper driver - !?!?!
21:14 DagoRed I don't mind the control part. Driving motors when they're really tiny makes me nervous.
21:15 Tom_L A3971
21:15 Tom_L i got a handfull of those
21:15 Tom_L but they're obsolete now
21:15 Tom_L dual dmos full bridge driver
21:15 rue_mohr why do you care if their obsolete?
21:15 Tom_L nothing special for stepper drivers though
21:15 Tom_L like microstepping
21:16 Tom_L 2.5A 50v
21:17 orlok so, we have a pen tester in at work
21:17 orlok just triggered an alert in our IDS i have never seen
21:17 orlok he's done a better job than any of the others, but thats not saying much
21:17 orlok nothing china doesnt do for free
21:18 orlok level 12 alert was triggered by multiple failures followed by a success
21:20 Tom_L how much current do those NEMA17's draw?
21:21 Tom_L i think most of those other drivers are in 2 - 2.5A range
21:21 rue_mohr its can varry between 100mA and 5A
21:21 Tom_L i doubt they pull 5A
21:22 Tom_L my double stack nema23's would pull 4.8 i think but i have them current limited to 3 iirc
21:25 rue_mohr the 3977 already has step/dir inputs
21:26 rue_mohr buts its a unipolar driver
21:27 rue_mohr and it does /4 microstepping
21:27 rue_mohr oo apparently up to /8
21:28 rue_mohr oo it takes care of everything
21:28 e_mohr dr
21:28 Tom_L huh?
21:30 Tom_L those cost more than the A4982 too
21:31 rue_mohr if I use something else I need to make a step controller
21:31 rue_mohr which I can do with a rom based state machine
21:31 rue_mohr but...
21:32 Tom_L i thought you were gonna use the arduino
21:32 rue_mohr yes, it outputs dir/step
21:32 rue_mohr I'm not messing with teh firmware
21:32 rue_mohr not for this project
21:32 Tom_L oh
21:32 Tom_L well as cheap as they are...
21:41 rue_mohr 1/2 step
21:41 rue_mohr on z
21:41 rue_mohr 1/400 mm
21:41 Tom_L 2.5A on the 77
21:42 rue_mohr .0025mm, and layers are about .3mm apart
21:42 Tom_L pulleys
21:42 rue_mohr yes, hmm
21:42 Tom_L double your pleasure
21:43 rue_mohr ~10mm dia
21:44 rue_mohr morphatron:~# circle -d 10
21:44 rue_mohr Radius is : 5.000000
21:44 rue_mohr Diameter is: 10.000000
21:44 rue_mohr Circumfrence is : 31.415926
21:44 rue_mohr 31.4mm/400 =
21:44 rue_mohr .079mm
21:45 rue_mohr why do I think thats enough resolution?
21:45 e_mohr sets the calipers to .07mm and st
21:46 Tom_L .8
21:47 rue_mohr .08
21:47 m_L slides an o in t
21:47 rue_mohr I'll start with that
21:47 rue_mohr I think half stepping will do for now
21:48 rue_mohr so I need to calibrate a temp sensor and build a table for it
21:49 rue_mohr run it up to temp and see if I can push plastic thru it
21:51 rue_mohr ok so I'll use the SLA7024, and SOMEWHERE I have step/dir -> 4 phase controller baords
21:51 rue_mohr oh they dont do half stepping
21:51 rue_mohr k, so I'll make new ones
21:52 Tom_L !time
21:52 tobbor My watch says its 19:42 Mon Sep 03 2012
21:52 rue_mohr 2 hours left
21:55 e_mohr pulls a balnk trying to remmeber how to half step a 4 phase unip
21:55 rue_mohr ...!?!?!
21:55 rue_mohr I know this like the back of my hand
21:55 e_mohr resets b
22:03 rue_mohr eek I cant even count in binary without thinking
22:03 rue_mohr 9.5 hours left
22:03 rue_mohr er 1.5
22:04 Tom_itx umm
22:04 Tom_itx did you make supper?
22:04 Tom_itx where's your left boot for morning?
22:05 rue_mohr did I have lunch?
22:06 rue_mohr ok I made the state table
22:06 Tom_itx hmm, that sounded like a gun shot
22:06 rue_mohr requires 4 inputs and 7 outputs
22:06 rue_mohr shame to use a 32K eprom for this stuff
22:07 rue_mohr user inputs dir/step
22:07 rue_mohr I could fold it a bit by using the step outputs as the feedback loop
22:08 rue_mohr means I can do 16x microstepping control
22:08 rue_mohr and I can use extra inputs to do microstep level control
22:16 rue_mohr there, its now 5 inputs and 4 outputs
22:16 rue_mohr so I can fit in 4 more outputs for current level and do x16 microstepping
22:17 rue_mohr on teh same chip I can do x1 x2 x4 x8 x16 microstepping control thats 5 rates, so I can add 3 bits for microstepping level
22:19 Tom_itx k. i'm gettin sleepy
22:19 rue_mohr no
22:19 rue_mohr the current levels are different on the two phaes
22:20 rue_mohr so I can only go to x4 microstepping
22:21 rue_mohr but then for everyquarter step I'm 4 steps
22:21 rue_mohr hmm
22:23 rue_mohr a motor has 4 steps per cycle
22:23 rue_mohr if I have 8 bits, that means I should be able to do 256 steps in that cycle
22:24 rue_mohr so I should be able to do 64x microstepping
22:24 Tom_itx you just said 4
22:24 rue_mohr yea
22:25 Tom_itx you don't need that much
22:25 rue_mohr 4 phases, and I have 8 bits
22:25 Tom_itx mine is uber smooth at 10
22:25 rue_mohr so 2 bits/ phase
22:25 rue_mohr but between 2 complimentrary phaes I have 4 bits
22:25 rue_mohr thats 16 levels in a half cycle
22:33 rue_mohr katsmeow-afk do yo have a lot of dip 74574?
22:34 rue_mohr hmm, I could make a rom for this from 24 diodes
22:34 rue_mohr er, and an address decoder... right
22:36 rue_mohr I been starring at whats aparently a blank piece of paper for about a half hour now, time to shut down for the night
22:56 katsmeow-afk i have lots of 74574
22:56 katsmeow-afk iirc, i have abt, f, lvc, and lvx
23:02 rue_livingrm dip?
23:02 tsmeow-afk curt
23:03 rue_livingrm could I get a few off you for $1 ea?
23:03 katsmeow-afk $1 each!?!
23:03 katsmeow-afk wanna buy 2000 at 99 cents each?
23:03 rue_livingrm no
23:03 katsmeow-afk special qty discount :-)
23:03 rue_livingrm I want about 5 or so
23:03 rue_livingrm I dont think I have any
23:03 rue_livingrm I suppose I should check
23:04 katsmeow-afk what fl;avor do you want? dip20's?
23:04 rue_livingrm they come in something else?
23:04 katsmeow-afk i got hc too
23:04 rue_livingrm ah, even ls would do
23:04 katsmeow-afk i got hct too
23:05 katsmeow-afk i got ac too
23:05 katsmeow-afk i do not have ls
23:05 rue_livingrm which cmos is more ttlish
23:06 katsmeow-afk hct
23:07 katsmeow-afk oops, my hct is soic
23:08 katsmeow-afk my hc is dip
23:09 katsmeow-afk i am pretty sure i have some F in dip
23:09 katsmeow-afk everything else is soic
23:12 rue_livingrm f soudnds good
23:14 tsmeow-afk checks for it,
23:18 katsmeow-afk they are still packed from moving, i can't get to them atm
23:19 katsmeow-afk i can pull some hc outa some boards
23:21 katsmeow-afk http://www.ebay.com/itm/SN74HCT574N-Octal-Flip-flop-74HCT574-Logic-IC-2-Pack-/290750112495
23:21 katsmeow-afk oh shit, mn, $17 s&h
23:21 katsmeow-afk err, 15
23:30 katsmeow-afk ...
23:34 tsmeow-afk wanders
23:34 AR__ why do you need FFs
23:42 rue_house state machines for stepper motors sequincers
23:58 katsmeow-afk does this S&H seem excessive to anyone else? : http://designerthinking.com/images/5064S&H.JPG
