01:07 rue_bed without a computer
01:08 katsmeow-afk when a $25 pi fits in your shirt pocket, it's hard to think of projects that do complicated things like that and don't need a computer
01:08 katsmeow-afk and the nix gumsticks

01:11 katsmeow-afk you can put a freaking microcomputer cluster in your shirt pocket
01:13 katsmeow-afk gnites
10:25 GuShH theBear: toe fully operational?
10:34 theBear yeah pretty much, most of my bottom half is a bit stiff this week, probly from being back to several days a week standing/walking/doing things
10:41 GuShH theBear: pfft my back always hurts
10:41 GuShH know anything about "bajaj" bikes?
10:42 GuShH What kind of brand is it, I never heard about it.
10:42 theBear me too, but i'm reassured every moment by it not hurting as bad as last year... on the other hand, my bottom half is usually nice and comfy
10:42 theBear no idea, could be real or noname, i'm too many years outta the game... i CAN tell you it wasn't either a real or a noname/cheap/supermarket brand in the mid 90's :)
10:42 GuShH they offer a lot more technology than similar yamaha models :/
10:43 theBear i can also tell you that $200 worth of front-shocks now is infinitely better than 12 or $1600 could get you back then
10:43 GuShH the YBR 125 is a nice bike, you can get 400KM easily with one tank...
10:43 theBear oh, motor bike, sorry
10:43 GuShH heh
10:43 theBear umm, still don't think so, tho i do recall a bunch of those weird spaceship looking desert bikes had a name that reminded me of baja
10:44 theBear oh wow, and sounds even more familiar when i noticed how i spelled that
10:44 GuShH hmm
10:44 theBear yeah, maybe i do, maybe they're one of those kinda working man's boutique company, that make impressively popular/durable weird offroad/desert/touring bikes
10:44 theBear but i can't be sure
10:45 GuShH oh no they're indian bikes
10:45 GuShH ie. an indian brand, from india.
10:45 theBear if they look like the dirt-bike version of a bmw spaceship, that's the ones i think of
10:45 GuShH http://moto.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-431263341-bajaj-rouser-135-retira-con-anticipo-de-5000-solo-con-dni-_JM
10:45 theBear nevertheless, that name makes me think baja
10:45 theBear hmm, india makes a lot of motorbikes these days
10:46 GuShH this is what yamaha offers http://moto.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-153750394-yamaha-ybr-125ed-2012-en-motoswift-_JM
10:46 theBear pretty sure it was some people there bought the old whatsit, err, triumph? factory lock stock and barrel and shipped it home
10:46 GuShH just curious about them.
10:46 theBear whatever old brand has recently started selling new 'original' models real cheap
10:46 GuShH a guy made 15k or 20k with one of those YBRs (2010 model I think) ... all in one long trip.
10:46 GuShH that's a lot of kilometers!
10:47 GuShH he just had to add oil.
10:47 GuShH (lube up the chain, engine oil...)
10:47 GuShH they are dependable, that's the whole point. can I expect that from a bajaj or some other brand?
10:48 GuShH not a big fan of this type of bike though.
10:48 GuShH street, naked.
10:48 theBear nah, not brand i'm thinking of, hard to say, it looks real modern and jap-style, but it's hard to tell with an engine until you've seen one, tiny example is those moped conversion motors you can get for about $200 with 20 different brand/stickers on them these days... fresh from the (same) factory, some of them are ok, some of them are shitty and leaky, some are put together well, some not so well.... then you got outside companies that remarket the
10:48 theBear stuff assembling them 'stock' sometimes, or properly machining this and that the factory don't bother to do, and using nice gaskets and stuff, you can get a 'nice' looking TINY 2stroke from the same factory, but in VERY different qualities
10:49 theBear mmm, most yammy's i've seen are hard to kill
10:49 GuShH yeah I've heard about chinese bikes either being "better than I hoped for" or "worst crap I've seen in years, kill me now!"
10:49 GuShH it's a gamble.
10:50 theBear i kinda like the idea of getting one of these modern little crazy road bikes as the years go on, maybe a little 125 or 200cc that revs out to about 20krpm almost instantly (small/light moving parts) and is nice and light to throw around
10:50 GuShH I read about someone who used to work at the local assembly line for one of those no-name brands, they would hammer the parts together and if they didn't fit they would get the angle grinder out.
10:50 theBear lol
10:51 GuShH these 125cc cruise at 100-120KM/h but you won't do 400-420KM at that speed, probably 300.
10:51 theBear little bro had one he got cheap and newish 2ndhand while he was on his learning/limited license a few years back, didn't ride it more than around the block, but i liked the concept
10:51 GuShH there's a sweet spot at around 80-90KM/h cruise speed.
10:51 theBear i don't mind some speed, but i can't see me going over 120km/h at all regularly or caring if i can't
10:52 GuShH problem about that is the engine builds up a lot of carbon and then when you want to go fast, it just won't go.... so abusing it a bit once in a while is good.
10:52 theBear mmm, i've ridden a few older road bikes, but i never ridden one of these tiny hi-revving hi power/weight ratio modern things, i suppose there's a lotta room in there for non-powerband(s)
10:52 GuShH likewise with the rings on the piston and not breaking it in properly!!
10:52 GuShH cruise at 100 would be for a road trip, you can't do that in the city.
10:52 theBear oh yeah, you give it a blast, but aside from just regular hi revving and stuff, cruising at 120km/h on a highway can blast an engine as well as 300km/h :)
10:53 theBear if you can run a tiny engine to 18krpm without even redlining, just do that a couple times a day at the lights and you almost there :)
10:53 GuShH I think you'll get a surprise if you go over 10krpm on these!
10:54 GuShH they say you cruise at 100 or so at 7krpm on 5th.
10:54 theBear lol, saw a scooter near work today, you know, like vespa style but modern, had some kinda silly muffler like ricers and kids with v8's like, way too big, the thing sounded like a broken big 2stroke, thump thump thump, then it takes off and i just laughed and laughed
10:54 GuShH but here's the thing, the yamaha still has old tech everywhere you see it, these indiochinese bikes have digital gear indicators and all sorts of goodies...
10:54 GuShH for LESS money
10:55 ShH fr
10:55 GuShH of course yamaha makes you pay 2 times more if you want those features.
10:55 theBear as the years go on i like to stretch gears too, car or bike, if i got a chunk of range before redline/generall unhappiness i'd rather waste a little fuel and stay in the lower gear so i got some instant get up and go if i need it
10:55 GuShH I saw a scooter with a raid can on the exhaust.
10:55 theBear l
10:55 theBear lol
10:57 GuShH theBear: which reminds me, now they make strawberry scented 2 stroke oil!
10:57 theBear i dunno about modern stuff, maybe on a modern everyday 'car-replacement' kinda bike, but especially on a dirtbike, i like something simple, until recent years most bikes were just a simple ignition system, a battery, chunk of engine/gearbox, obvious cables/leads for levers and lights and things...
10:57 theBear lol
10:57 theBear i quite like the old synthetic castor and of course real castor.. with fresh crispy fried chips it signifies everything good about speedway nights
10:57 GuShH can you imagine that, big ass man revs up and all you smell is strawberry
10:57 GuShH NOT SERIOUS
10:58 GuShH ipone city oil
10:58 theBear lol, no sillier than fancy tyres for coloured burnout smoke !
10:58 GuShH sigh
10:58 theBear exactly
10:58 GuShH what if the burnout smoke were to smell like strawberries too?
10:58 GuShH http://130.com.ua/published/publicdata/AUTO/attachments/SC/products_pictures/Semi-synthetic-motor-oil-Ipone-City-Oil-2-strawberry-exhaustion-1-L-for-2-stroke-motor-scooters_enl.jpg
10:58 theBear and do they really need several thousand dollars worth of mag wheels to do that with and more often than not destroy at the end of it ? i'd be using cheap shitty steel rims all the way baby !
10:59 GuShH haha
10:59 GuShH this oil costs as much as a good castrol oil.
10:59 GuShH plus it ruins that amazing 2 stroke exhaust..
11:00 theBear hehe, 'city oil'
11:00 GuShH there are some nice racing bikes in 2 stroke, not sure they still make them
11:01 theBear i wonder... next anything i got that uses it, i gotta get some of that nice castor-smelling synthetic speedway oil, i just noticed, the generic castrol/whatever you get most places these days doesn't smell nearly good enough
11:01 GuShH this ipone stuff isn't fully synthetic either
11:01 GuShH but it costs as much
11:01 GuShH go figure
11:01 GuShH I bet it's regular strawberry fragance, food grade.
11:02 GuShH and it gums up the engine/exhaust, surely!
11:02 theBear maybe... i dunno what they put in smoke machine 'flavoured' juices, but all including the strawberry smell TERRIBLE and gum things up horribly
11:02 theBear oh, also whatever it is, is food grade
11:02 theBear and i suppose water soluble
11:02 GuShH must be the same stuff
11:03 theBear heh, somewhere i still got a little tub of Lanotec something heavy duty grease... it's food grade and made of sheep !
11:04 GuShH I wonder if there are any better brands than motul or castrol out there
11:04 GuShH sheep grease!
11:04 theBear mostly used their err, sheep-spray, lanolin i suppose... use it like 'fish oil in a can' on shitty old steel that isn't worth messing with, but you wanna halt rusting in.... smells way better than fish oil, and works AMAZNIGLY
11:05 GuShH heres a business thought: cannabis scented motoroil.
11:05 GuShH WINNING
11:05 theBear the grease is pretty decent where i've used it over the years, but VERY thick at room temps, and that includes our 30C+ (24/7) weeks in summer
11:06 theBear hmm, i saw something ridiculous with pot-flavouring(smell) recently, what was it ?
11:06 GuShH no clue
11:06 GuShH next up, strawberries that taste like motoroil.
11:06 theBear hehe, totally :) rhetorical question farley
11:07 theBear heh, some hippies i used to know filtered their own biodiesel before it was cool, warehouse always smelled like fish and chips grease trap after they drove in
11:08 GuShH :p
11:08 GuShH what an abomination http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/06/03/electric-yamaha-r1-lightning-lithium/
11:08 GuShH to take an R1 and do that...
11:08 ShH frowns t
11:08 theBear hmm... they musta been doing it 10 years ago... first time i asked why their jeep smelled funny was the first time i heard of the whole idea
11:09 GuShH HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THAT LAST PICTURE
11:09 theBear now it's in every service station and noone looks twice
11:09 theBear the gear ratio ?
11:10 GuShH I bet it all weighs more than the original.
11:10 GuShH and you won't get as far with it
11:10 theBear even if the original was a 1200cc v8 with a car tank on the back !
11:11 GuShH 1000cc is usual for the R1
11:11 GuShH they're quite expensive
11:11 theBear any opinions on the 'right way' to have a shared homedir between machines, mostly on the lan, but with a sometimes-travellnig laptop involved ?
11:11 GuShH ok in reality it's more like 998cc for the "small" version
11:12 theBear lol, and 1002cc is the "big" version eh ?
11:12 GuShH don't know, surely over 1200
11:12 theBear really ? i just assumed they cut the bottom out of it to fit all those batteries in :)
11:12 GuShH I'd love to own a diesel bike though
11:13 theBear i not sure i've seen a diesel bike... hmm, maybe some ancient ww2 thing tickles a memory
11:13 theBear oh, were those err, nazi? or maybe british military bikes diesel ?
11:13 GuShH I've never seen one but I've read about a few
11:14 theBear sorta low cruiser style design as was popular in that era
11:14 GuShH let's see what wiki has to say http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_motorcycle
11:14 GuShH HOLY SHIT 120 miles per gallon!!!
11:15 theBear i'd sorta like a silly old bike, maybe slightly choppy, as the years go on.... don't care if big silly bars or just low racing style tight bars, but something i can sit up comfortably on, suicide shift, maybe suicide clutch if i'm feeling confident :)
11:15 GuShH why isn't everyone driving these!!
11:15 theBear same reason we don't all drive volkswagons :)
11:15 ShH investigates price
11:15 GuShH can't find it.
11:16 theBear they're an old invention, usually a small piece of card or some kind of sticker, indicating a value for monetary trade, and often a brief description
11:16 GuShH it's not ugly though http://www.dieselbike.net/T800CDI/T800CDI.html
11:16 GuShH looks like a bmw to me
11:16 GuShH sure the engine looks disgusting...
11:17 theBear that looks cool, i could ride that.. is that ? that thing at the rear of the engine sure looks like a little turbo turbine
11:17 theBear doesn't really make sense with that exhaust tho
11:17 GuShH and why do they boast about CDI?
11:17 GuShH a lot of bikes use capacitor discharge ignition
11:18 GuShH or does it mean something else on a diesel?
11:18 theBear holy crap it's a tall complex engine
11:18 GuShH I can't find it for sale anywhere
11:18 theBear i think CDI is a buzzword like EFI, probably implies computer controlled
11:18 GuShH I bet it costs 40.000 usd or something silly
11:18 GuShH heh I could think "computah diesel injection"
11:19 theBear hehe, wouldn't surprise me :-/ crazy sales peoples
11:19 GuShH meanwhile back in reality I'm still trying to figure out what the tiny screw does on this carburetor...
11:19 theBear dismantle it completely and find out :)
11:19 GuShH I did, couldn't figure it out
11:20 theBear that's how i learned about float carbs recently, watched a monkey take one apart then not put it back together again... watched the parts, scratched my head a bit, put it back together and tuned it :)
11:20 GuShH the japanese company never answered my email either
11:20 GuShH http://gushh.net/tmp/honda_carb.jpg
11:20 GuShH http://gushh.net/tmp/honda_carb3.jpg
11:20 theBear the flathead one ?
11:21 GuShH yes, I thought it was the high end needle
11:21 GuShH but it doesn't seem so.
11:21 GuShH the big one is the idle
11:21 GuShH it's near the choke port, but I doubt it's got anything to do with that
11:21 theBear ohh, i should know this, that's just like the one i learned on
11:21 theBear the flange is in or out ?
11:22 ShH sh
11:22 theBear oh, engine side
11:22 GuShH also, wish I had an ultrasonic cleaner
11:23 theBear where does the screw go inside ? just into the main path/chamber or tickles something down the bottom or ?
11:23 GuShH let me find another picture, it's back on the bike...
11:23 GuShH small and silly honda 50cc
11:24 GuShH at least it started now, the exhaust was clogged too
11:24 GuShH I poured in some gasoline and it went nowhere, the thing was full of carbon and thick oily goo
11:24 theBear i suppose you can always fiddle it while idling/cold if you can access it, see if anything changes, if so it's idle/air related, otherwise it'd have to be high speed
11:24 GuShH the idle is the big one on top
11:24 GuShH and it's very touchy
11:25 theBear yeah, i said related :) i suppose i really meant err, air related i suppose
11:26 theBear or thinking outside the box, could be something that only happens at 'unusual' pressures, like during starting or when there's no fuel to start the vacuum/feed
11:26 GuShH Hmm
11:27 theBear that'd be i suppose if it controlled a 'pipe' outside the main flow, probably with at least one venturi end
11:27 GuShH damn it, leave mr venturi alone! hes a complicated man!
11:27 theBear oooh, same idea could apply if it somehow controlled a vacuum/pressure line that comes back from the engine
11:27 theBear heh
11:27 theBear speaking of complicated men
11:27 GuShH http://gushh.net/tmp/honda_carb5.jpg
11:28 GuShH we can clearly see the idle screw in there
11:28 GuShH the curved pipe is the oil feed, the oil pump is separate
11:28 GuShH no sign of the other screw, plus I don't think I took pictures of the underside
11:29 GuShH underneath the brass fitting (fuel pickup line) there's a tiny steel ball, probably just to serve as a valve.
11:29 theBear hmm... what is the threaded hole at the top right ?
11:30 GuShH choke
11:30 GuShH in goes a plunger connected by a steel cable to the choke lever/pushy thing
11:30 GuShH it's not automatic
11:31 theBear hmmm, from only those angles, i'd say it has to be either doing something on the other side of the hole under that plunger, or somehow affecting the needle thingy, maybe some kinda limit ?
11:31 GuShH you can bearly see the bottom end of it here (top left) http://gushh.net/tmp/honda_carb2.jpg
11:31 GuShH and the part with a cap and a spring is the actual throttle mechanism
11:32 theBear oh, i had it all sideways in my head
11:32 GuShH Need to get some gasoline and run it again for more tests
11:32 GuShH heh the air pickup is the rounded part
11:32 GuShH silly japanese carbs anyway
11:32 theBear err, what's the big silver cap thing ?
11:33 GuShH throttle
11:33 theBear no, bolted to the carb, air pickup ?
11:33 GuShH goes into the center threaded hole
11:33 theBear wait, where does the engine go ?
11:33 GuShH no clue what the black hose on the left does, it goes nowhere.
11:33 theBear maybe i'm too tired for this
11:34 theBear nowhere at the other end ? they often fall off an engine over the years... usually a vaccum/pressure line of some kind
11:34 GuShH there's another hose with a tiny valve that it's meant for purging the carb bowl, but the other one, no clue.
11:34 GuShH the other side of the hose doesn't look like it's been connected to somewhere
11:34 theBear you look around for little tube-fittings moulded into the engine/cylinder casing
11:34 GuShH yep
11:35 GuShH I'll look again once I remove the seat for further testing.
11:35 theBear those ones are pretty stretchy these days, they don't stay-fat forever just cos they used to be on a fitting
11:35 GuShH it's a 92-94 bike though
11:36 theBear even so
11:36 GuShH don't know if it falls on "these days"
11:36 theBear it does in my world
11:36 GuShH lol
11:38 GuShH I'm a bigger fan of regular carbs.... not these weird ones.
11:40 GuShH theBear: I'd much rather get a 70-80s bike and restore it, than one of the modern ones, except for the fuel economy
11:40 theBear mmm, it IS odd
11:40 GuShH or not even restore it at all, who would want to steal it then!
11:40 theBear it looked fine till i found out where all the ins/outs connected to
11:41 theBear now it hurts my head
11:41 GuShH 2 stroke with oil mixer, 50cc, that's all I can tell you about it. checked out their site, dead-end they only work on 4 stroke carbs now
11:41 GuShH tried to remove the oil pump but without removing the engine off the frame it's impossible
11:41 theBear you gotta make friends with a good mechanic
11:42 GuShH (I already had the exhaust out, so I gave it a go)
11:42 GuShH mechanics are not beary enough
11:42 theBear heh yeah, there's no denying it, but at the same time, i got no idea what that carb is doing :)
11:42 GuShH T-800CDI price ... about 25.000 usd
11:42 GuShH yikes
11:43 GuShH that's a lot of money for a bike that will almost run for free, but will get you late everywhere :p
11:44 GuShH although it's probably not too bad, modern diesels are awesome
11:45 GuShH bah again with the anxiety problems :(
11:45 theBear oh, crazy foreigner ! use ,'s ! i been thinking "wtf ? that's stupid cheap, under 50 bucks !" all night !
11:48 GuShH o.o
11:48 GuShH 25k
11:49 theBear i see that NOW
11:49 ShH p
11:55 theBear hehe
14:52 James78 Anyone with electrial background. I have a question regarding electrically common points. Note that I'm a beginner and need simple terms in order to understand. What happens if you remove the ground, and leave the person still touching the bottom wire (the person is grounded)? I'm not seeing any way that the person can be shocked, save for a ground fault. Here's an illustration of what I'm talking about. http://sub.allaboutcircuits.
14:52 James78 com/images/00057.png
14:54 GuShH James78: bad example with DC and batteries.
14:55 James78 That illustration is supposed to be of power lines. Maybe I should have noted that... :|
14:55 GuShH since the chemical reaction has to occur across it's plates, the earth has nothing to do with it.
14:55 GuShH the symbol depicts a battery
14:55 GuShH I recommend you never visit that site again.
14:55 chris_99 remember high voltage can arc James78
14:55 GuShH if you remove ground you become the only return path
14:55 GuShH the human body is resitive and capacitive
14:56 James78 For reference material, the chapter page is here: http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_1/chpt_3/3.html
14:56 GuShH no thanks I'd rather play with shit
14:56 James78 Sorry, I'm realtively new and I'm trying to understand this.
14:56 James78 relatively*
14:57 chris_99 dumb question about a robot arm - how hard do you guys think it'd be to RE one, that uses pneumatics
14:57 chris_99 ie. theres no control panel
14:57 GuShH "ground fault" this is when one of your phases leaks through earth instead of returning through the neutral.
14:57 GuShH leak or short, doesn't matter current passes through and becomes a ground fault
14:57 GuShH did you mean to say if no neutral is present?
14:57 GuShH then you (a resistor) are in series.
14:58 GuShH the bird in that poor illustration cannot be shocked for there's no potential to begin with, no current can flow.
14:59 GuShH and in that same illustration the person is "not shocked" because there's also no potential.
14:59 GuShH hes grounded and hes touching ground.
14:59 GuShH there is however, in real life, a small potential
15:00 GuShH because that line from the resistor node to earth is going to be a cable, wire, which won't be a perfect conductor
15:00 James78 Ok, say the lines have no ground connection and you touch the top wire (although you are grounded yourself). As per their examples, you shouldn't be able to be shocked, unless there's a "ground fault", which they stated as something (for example), a grounded tree touching the bottom line.
15:00 GuShH thus it's basically a resistor divider.
15:00 James78 That's what I'm trying to refer to with "ground fault"
15:00 GuShH this is also why "ground is never the same in two points"
15:01 GuShH if you touch the top wire and you are earthed you'll end up carbonizing your body, better said... the point of entry and exit will carbonize, you'll die anyway.
15:01 GuShH this assuming transmission lines, 11kV or similar at least.
15:02 katsmeow-afk at 11kv, mere capacitance to gnd will make enough current flow to hurt you
15:03 GuShH first you'll arc through, as your body water boils and your cells turn into carbon your series resistance decreases and the current across your body increases, in the end you fall apart to the point where the arc can no longer sustain itself.
15:03 GuShH first parts to fall apart, entry or exit points.
15:03 GuShH they'll find your foot or whatever is left of it on the ground and your hand or arm somewhere else.
15:03 GuShH does this fall in the bbq category?
15:04 James78 Lol, sounds more like vaporized.
15:04 katsmeow-afk pics to that effect on youtube
15:04 GuShH the heat boils the water, turns it into steam. but it happens so fast some parts of you turn into coal and just fall apart.
15:05 katsmeow-afk depending on the voltage
15:05 GuShH we were still assuming a transmission line
15:05 GuShH I think you can probably feel it 'til the point your brain can no longer function
15:05 GuShH a second or two?
15:06 James78 So you're saying, that if none of the lines are grounded, but you touch the top and you yourself are grounded, there's still danger?
15:06 katsmeow-afk many people do not recall the instant of contact, some remember a split sec of muscle contraction
15:06 GuShH James78: if you touch a live wire, yes
15:07 katsmeow-afk James, for current to flow, there must be a complete circuit
15:07 GuShH at least it's AC
15:07 James78 Right. I'm failing to see how there's a complete circuit if nothing is touching the ground but you. (Please bear with me, I don't know a lot).
15:07 GuShH (again, stupid illustration depicts DC)
15:07 katsmeow-afk in very high voltage circuits even some capacitance to gnd is a significant circuit component
15:08 GuShH reminds me of trucks sparkin' by
15:08 katsmeow-afk James, you are failing to see a circuit because, like the bird in that pic, there is no circuit
15:08 GuShH if the bird had one of it's little legs on the ground, there would be a circuit.
15:09 katsmeow-afk James, you are failing to see a circuit because, in that pic there is a gnd and the man is touching gnd (keep in mind no gnd is perfect, and there will be *some* voltage)
15:09 GuShH sigh
15:09 GuShH repetitions
15:09 GuShH now remove the "ground" from the load
15:09 James78 I'm guessing that is because even a little bit is a major advantage right? As in, any regular conductor resistance is practically 0, but if you are using high voltage high current applications, you need to start taking into account the small resistance as it builds up?
15:09 GuShH you are the next best thing.
15:10 katsmeow-afk hospitals stest equipment for gnd leaks, because a 100mv ground wire drop can kill a patient with a heart cath, even tho you look at it, and it's gnded
15:10 GuShH hence why transmission lines are ac and high voltage to begin with
15:10 GuShH getting equipment certified for medical use is a pain in the arse
15:10 GuShH and not something you can do at home.
15:11 James78 Sorry, I'm trying to parse all this information.
15:11 ShH s
15:12 GuShH that site is nasty.
15:12 GuShH it's very similar to that ehow site
15:12 GuShH written by monkeys
15:12 James78 Ugh, I can't stand ehow.
15:12 James78 Are there any better representations on the web you know of? I couldn't find any when I looked.
15:12 katsmeow-afk basicly, the real world is NOT like theory describes: all conductors have some resistance, heat IS a problem, and copper can be a semiconductor
15:12 GuShH I can't stand instructables.com for that matter.
15:13 GuShH hey and heat will change your resistance and and and
15:14 GuShH not that I know of, but you could probably find pictures of what happens when there is a circuit with a man and a transmission line.
15:14 GuShH with/between
15:14 GuShH If you were to be doing similar work they would've showed them to you during your training anyway
15:14 GuShH "and this is what happens when..." safety 101
15:14 katsmeow-afk yeas, arc plasma is a whole nother ball of wax
15:15 GuShH don't worry, I think the acid burn victim pictures are worse.
15:15 GuShH but both will teach you not to be too complacent with this stuff.
15:17 katsmeow-afk trust me, if you got 28kv on one paw, you will use the other paw as a stupid battering ram to hit that voltage source, or yourself, away from it,, do NOT put a paw in your pocket like they taught in the 60's
15:17 katsmeow-afk because even on a 1/2 rubebr mat, in rubber shoes, you will feel it
15:18 katsmeow-afk been there, done that,, van de graff gennies too
15:21 GuShH katsmeow-afk: the pocket thing is for low voltages, so you don't end up harming your hand / arm against some sharp object
15:21 GuShH katsmeow-afk: they argue is to "prevent a current path across the heart"
15:21 katsmeow-afk i know
15:22 GuShH or capacitive discharges too...
15:22 GuShH CRT!
15:22 katsmeow-afk i worked in hosp doing those tests, and my mom was head nurse in ICU
15:22 GuShH not like many are still working with those
15:23 katsmeow-afk i go do things irl, bbl
15:23 GuShH James78: go do things irl, try out these theories!
15:23 ShH wets the gr
15:23 GuShH now try to steal this copper >>
15:25 James78 Is this image not a very good example then? http://sub.allaboutcircuits.com/images/00058.png
15:25 GuShH no
15:26 GuShH it's only "good" in the context of a battery
15:26 GuShH and assuming it's not grounded
15:26 James78 Oh, I see.
15:26 James78 Things change in AC circuits.
15:26 James78 I haven't covered that part yet..
15:27 James78 Well.
15:27 James78 Thanks for the help.
15:28 GuShH not exactly and I bet theBear has more energy to explain it than I do
15:28 James78 I guess what I need is a DC explanation. Their example of it being power lines makes it confusing, makes you think they're talking about AC.
15:29 GuShH But the key here is that your current needs to flow across the battery, not into earth.
15:29 GuShH it's a chemical reaction inside the battery
15:29 GuShH and to mess even more with your head, current actually goes the other way around.
15:30 GuShH also if you were thinking about fooling around with high voltage DC.... don't
15:30 James78 Of course not, I'm just talking theory here, to better understand the concept.
15:32 GuShH understanding parasitics and the actual properties of your conductors and components also helps
15:33 GuShH you already know more than any electrician I've ever met anyway.
15:33 ShH shud
15:33 GuShH James78: look up videos of transmission line inspector / inspection
15:34 GuShH to help understand capacitance and potentials
15:38 GuShH holy crap what an ugly thing http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2010-02/south-korea-gives-go-robot-english-teachers-classrooms
18:00 genesis https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=sGskKUV6eh8 what a beautiful empire
18:22 GuShH theBear: was thinking, could be the crankcase breather hose but I still can't find a fitting for it anywhere on the crankcase, and the hose isn't that long... maybe it really is meant to be disconnected?
18:39 Tom_itx unlikely
18:39 Tom_itx it is usually pumped back thru the intake with a filter on it
20:03 GuShH theBear: damn the o-rings on those needles are shitty!
20:05 GuShH oh and the rouser is also known as the pulsar (why?? don't ask me)
20:06 GuShH crazy people reving them up to 11k with not even 1.000 KMs on the engine...
20:07 GuShH constantly, since they go for top speed.
20:23 e_house jumps up and shouts "I'M ALIVE! ITS OK! I'M ALI
20:24 Tom_itx rue_house what avr are you using for your printer?
20:25 rue_house GuShH, its a boy...
20:26 rue_house genesis, the usa is all about freedom
20:27 ace4016 you had a baby?
20:27 rue_house those cops are free to do whatever they want without prosicution
20:27 rue_house the robot
20:29 rue_house katsmeow-afk, how did you do regarding eagle
20:29 rue_house I'v not hand a chance to sit down with you on it yet
20:29 theBear GuShH, yeah, i aint into that, i'm uncofortable enough about ANYTHING made of metal doing 20krpm :) let alone with explosions and between my legs !
20:30 theBear rue_house, that's what she said ?
20:30 Tom_itx :/
20:30 theBear sorry, i'm big on bad one liners this week
20:31 ace4016 lol
20:31 theBear tho the comments about a 20krpm internal combustion between my legs, deadly serious !
20:32 theBear err, ^^ that's what she said ? <grin>
20:33 Tom_itx has a slight miss and sputters alot
20:37 genesis GuShH : i'd prefer teacher like http://www.sexymandarin.com/
20:38 genesis perharps i'm too human.
20:39 theBear Tom_itx, that's the spirit :)
20:39 theBear oh man, i was expecting fruit :(
20:39 theBear SEXY fruit
20:40 genesis think with your balls a little bit
20:45 ace4016 lol
20:47 Tom_itx are they divided like the brain?
20:48 GuShH o.o
20:52 genesis they are divided by zero too, that's why they loved black hole
20:53 Tom_itx rue_house
20:53 Tom_itx how are you coming on the arduino firmware?
20:53 theBear ooh, that's a bit blue ;)
23:10 orlok yay!!!!
23:10 orlok it arrived!
23:11 katsmeow-afk congrats, you're a real wo,, wait, something else arrived, didn't it?
23:11 orlok my 3d printed bits
23:12 katsmeow-afk yeas, those, that's what i said
23:12 DagoRed Am I the only one that isn't really interested in 3d printing.
23:12 katsmeow-afk you sure get deliveries late at nite
23:30 orlok Grr, new toys to play with then i get a damn support call :-(
23:59 tsmeow-afk just luvs the smell of napa,, err, solder in the mor
