00:01 furrywolf2 nope. nor time for one. I work too many hours to give a pet the time it deserves.
00:01 katsmeow-afk got lots of runnng around room where they cannot escape and kill a neighbor?
00:01 furrywolf2 which is why I said earlier than I had neither the money nor time.
00:01 tsmeow-afk
00:01 katsmeow-afk here, the assholes would come to my fence and shoot it
00:04 rue_livingrm but would there be a difference in the amount of bacon anyone would cook, thats the real question
00:04 furrywolf2 I'd want to get a younger puppy, too... it seems the majority of people who get them (and pitbulls) mistreat them because they want a "mean" dog...
00:04 furrywolf2 and trying to help a mistreated puppy is hard.
00:05 tsmeow-afk
00:05 furrywolf2 raised right they make great family members... but any animal can be made to hate the world if you beat it enough.
00:06 katsmeow-afk assholes here think if the dog has fur, it cannot feel being petted, so they hit the dog so hard it winces,,, i'm like "commeere, let me pet you on the head like you're pounding that dog"
00:06 furrywolf2 I had to have a talk with the owner of the property next door, because I got sick of watching her tennants pick their perfectly nice puppy up and repeatedly throw it against the wall because it wasn't mean enough.
00:06 furrywolf2 she threw them out.
00:08 rue_livingrm well I can only do so much from a laptop in the livingroom
00:08 furrywolf2 this is sadly common around here. :(
00:08 rue_livingrm I have to go plug in an arduino
00:08 furrywolf2 and everywhere else, too.
00:10 katsmeow-afk there was an asshole around here, i forget who now, but he fed his god food with gunpowder in it, and i asked why, he said it put him in pain 24-7 and made him meaner
00:10 furrywolf2 people like that should be shot.
00:10 katsmeow-afk i remember pretty much wanting to shoot the man then
00:11 furrywolf2 and yet, if we do it, despite making the world a better place, we'd get in trouble.
00:12 furrywolf2 grrr, my internet connection is failing again
00:13 katsmeow-afk ok, got 3 done, and i know better than to start the mirrrror image 3 tonite
00:13 katsmeow-afk dinner awaits
00:14 furrywolf2 I'm probably about to vanish.

00:23 GuShH I think it's opposite-walmart; they have very few things, way too expensive.
00:24 furrywolf2 walmart is horrible here.
00:24 GuShH And only 1/10th of the stores any other big chain has around.

00:54 tsmeow-afk wondes if rue will connect his reprap to the internet ..... http://xkcd.com/924/
01:03 katsmeow-afk zzzzzzzzz
01:04 rue_livingrm yay! I connected to the reprap controller

01:08 rue_livingrm I'm connected to a hardwareless reprap
01:12 rue_livingrm sunday I can power up the nozzel
01:12 katsmeow-afk august 12 Texas' hourly power demand surged to the highest level seen in July on Tuesday as 100-degree-plus temperatures covered much of the state.
01:12 katsmeow-afk Power demand reached 65,970 megawatts (MW) between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. CDT (2100-2200 GMT) on Tuesday, according to preliminary grid data. The previous July hourly record was 65,432 MW set last year during an extended heat wave and drought.
01:13 katsmeow-afk that's 549,750,000 amps at 120 vac
01:13 katsmeow-afk someone has a poorly insulated house
01:13 katsmeow-afk The temperature in Dallas hit 107 degrees Fahrenheit (41 Celsius) on Wednesday, breaking the city's record high for the second day in a row, while Wednesday's high in Houston of 102 degrees also set a new record.
01:13 katsmeow-afk Real-time power prices rose to the low $100 level per megawatt-hour from about $30 earlier in the day, well below the market cap of $4,500 which went into effect Wednesday.
01:13 katsmeow-afk So far this year, Texas has exceeded monthly power-use records in May, June and July.
01:14 rue_livingrm hmm
01:14 katsmeow-afk $30/megawatt-hr = 3 cents kwh
01:15 katsmeow-afk then wtf do we get charged 13 cents kwh?
01:16 katsmeow-afk One megawatt is enough to serve about 200 Texas homes during
01:16 katsmeow-afk hot weather when air conditioners run for extended periods.
01:16 katsmeow-afk bs, if they ran my ac, 1Mw could service 1,666 homes
01:17 rue_bed we pay 7c/kwh
01:17 katsmeow-afk August 21, 2012
01:17 katsmeow-afk A 50,000-barrel batch of contaminated fuel from a BP refinery in Northwest Indiana has fouled countless cars in as many as four states since last week.
01:17 katsmeow-afk Roughly 2.1 million gallons of gasoline have been recalled
01:18 rue_bed they put too much water in it?
01:18 katsmeow-afk The fuel was distributed at BP stations and other retailers in the last week and primarily involves regular-grade gas.
01:18 katsmeow-afk Mechanics say the contaminated gas has a sludge-like consistency, which clogs the fuel system. BP is investigating how the contamination occurred.
01:18 katsmeow-afk service bays are jammed with repairs, which primarily consist of draining the fuel tank and cleaning the fuel system. Costs have generally ranged from $300 to $1,200, according to AAA.
01:19 rue_house heh, plus about $200 in gas
01:19 rue_house you would think someone would have noticed
01:19 rue_house what gas stations were serving the gas I wonder
01:19 rue_house oh bp stations, we dont have those here
01:19 katsmeow-afk
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-08-21/business/ct-biz-0822-bp-gas-20120822_1_bp-stations-bp-refinery-bad-gas
01:20 katsmeow-afk Stations receiving the contaminated fuel include BP, Speedway, Thorntons and a number of big box stores,
01:21 rue_house this means theres gonna be a flood of cars for sale that drivers cant afford to get fixed
01:21 katsmeow-afk BP said they'd reimburse
01:22 rue_house exactly
01:23 rue_house if you cant put out the money for the repair, you cant get reimbursed
01:23 katsmeow-afk it's prolly some of the oil they sucked out of the Gulf, and the patches of gummy thick stuff are dissolved fish
01:23 DagoRed Why does BP love to screw over Americans?
01:23 rue_house because they love to buy BP
01:24 katsmeow-afk because theusa military screws over the Brits, it's British Petroleum
01:25 tsmeow-afk should goto
01:25 rue_house gngiht
01:26 DagoRed I should too.
01:26 katsmeow-afk zzzzz
01:28 rue_bed robotics tommorow
01:28 rue_bed making a rubix cube solver
01:28 DagoRed cool!
01:29 rue_bed for now, just a manipulator
01:29 rue_bed you give it a string and it applies it to the cube
01:29 rue_bed I dont do rubix cubes, so he's doing the programming
01:29 DagoRed heh
11:51 furrywolf2 grrr. I bought something that said made in turkey. even the bag it was in says made in turkey. the part itself has taiwan stamped into it.
11:51 furrywolf2 oh well, at least my car has a fuel door again.
13:39 katsmeow-afk <cough>
14:37 GuShH_ furrywolf2: so the bag was made in turkey!
14:42 anannie Armstrong just died
14:43 GuShH_ hmm
14:43 GuShH_ sad.
14:44 GuShH_ furrywolf2: are 19/22 wrenches common? I can't find them anywhere!
14:45 GuShH_ anannie: wait, which Armstrong?
14:45 anannie GuShH_: Neil Armstrong
14:45 anannie He's gone
14:45 GuShH_ no :|
14:45 anannie I can't believe it
14:45 GuShH_ what happened
14:45 anannie A friend of mine worked on Apollo
14:46 anannie and they were good friends etc... She's going to be devastated
14:46 GuShH_ :(
15:19 rue_house GuShH_, no, how about 19/32
15:19 rue_house see how the divisor is a power of 2?
18:06 rue_livingrm ok im supposed to get the reprap going
18:26 Tom_itx uh huh
18:27 Tom_itx i wanted to use those files to mill some parts for one but i can't get any useful dimensions from them
18:29 Tom_itx see what they don't realize is maybe someone doesn't want to print the parts for one, rather mill them from metal
18:31 rue_livingrm so I need to make a fet board
18:33 rue_livingrm and a conditioning board for the thermistor
18:36 rue_livingrm I found a fet that, with a 5V gate voltage, switches the 5.1R resistor with no substancial loss
18:38 Tom_itx you gonna make your own hbridge drivers?
18:39 GuShH_ rue_house: I'm certain it says 22 not 32
18:40 rue_house Im sure it says 32
18:40 rue_house imperial dosn't use /22
18:41 rue_house it uses /2 /4 /8 /16 /32
18:41 GuShH_ rue_house: should I use acid on it to see what's really stamped?
18:41 Tom_itx yeah
18:48 GuShH_ time for some macro shots I guess
18:49 GuShH_ it's in such bad shape I could barely read 16, and the "3" looks like a 2, hence why I asked about the 22, it puzzled me.
18:50 ShH_ sees a 3
18:58 GuShH_ rue_house: yep
18:59 GuShH_ wet sanded the wrench with 600 grit and now it's clear, all the rust and crap wouldn't let me see it right
19:01 GuShH_ doh
19:03 furrywolf2 19/22? you mean 19/32? or 19mm and 22mm?
19:04 GuShH_ furrywolf2: it was a 19/32, but so rusted it read as 19/22 and got me all puzzled up
19:04 furrywolf2 ah
19:04 furrywolf2 http://www.ebay.com/itm/METSO-NELES-ND9103HN-VALVE-POSITIONER-9-5V-VDC-4-20MA-AMP-20-115PSI-40537-/120881144874?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2513e42a picked up one of those at a yard sale for $1. guy I got it from has no idea what it was. :)
19:06 furrywolf2 also picked up a box of MREs (with a box of spare FRHs) for $2, a couple solenoid valves for $1, three tractor inner tubes for $5/each, a knife block for $5, a 320gb external hard drive for $1, a battery lifter for $3, a box of electrical supplies (boxes, small coils of romex, etc) for $1, and some assorted stuff.
19:07 GuShH_ http://gushh.net/tmp/srsly.jpg
19:08 GuShH_ furrywolf2: awesome finds right there
19:09 furrywolf2 oh, and two lengths of 6" metalbestos for $1/each.
19:09 GuShH_ my only find today was some copper pipe at a third of it's retail price...
19:10 ShH_ can't believe how expensive copper and bras
19:10 chris_99 does anyone do image recognition stuff here? i'm wondering if anyone knows of a simple contour detection alg.
19:10 GuShH_ only done it with ANNs
19:10 chris_99 what did you do with ANNs?
19:10 GuShH_ the contour recognition.
19:11 GuShH_ (artificial neural network)
19:11 chris_99 hmm, how did that work?
19:11 GuShH_ ok, given how badly trained it was.
19:11 GuShH_ it's all about your training set
19:12 chris_99 how did you go about training it to detect what a contour is though?
19:12 GuShH_ I had to recognize one specific object, not multiple ones.
19:12 GuShH_ chris_99: you generate similar input data, during the training stage you weigh the nets whether the response is right or wrong
19:12 furrywolf2 http://www.awc-inc.com/website/InventorySearchResults.aspx?Main=3&Sub1=10&Sub2=6&CategoryTitle=Process+Valves+%2f+Accessories+%2f+Positioners%2c+Valve+Controller gotta love the retail prices on industrial bits like this...
19:13 GuShH_ you perform a lot of post processing on the image anyway, it ends up being a 2 bit image.
19:13 chris_99 yeah i know how ANNs work roughly, but i mean, you train it to know what a contour is, but how did you generate the training data
19:13 furrywolf2 oh, and I got a thermocouple-controlled (or so the label claims) heat gun for $2.
19:13 GuShH_ chris_99: pictures of the object, plus picture of the non object :p
19:13 GuShH_ furrywolf2: I've seen ones with thermostats but never with a thermocouple!
19:13 chris_99 er, that doesn't sound like contour detection
19:13 chris_99 though
19:14 furrywolf2 yeah, hence the "or so the label claims".
19:14 GuShH_ chris_99: what are you trying to detect?
19:14 furrywolf2 are you trying to recognize the contour of a specific object, or just all the contours in an image, aka edge detection?
19:14 chris_99 i'm trying to detect something akin to a rectangle at any orientation
19:15 GuShH_ just say it how it is
19:15 GuShH_ if you can't disclose the information, you can't get an answer.
19:15 chris_99 that's what i'm doing
19:15 chris_99 i can't put it any simpler
19:15 katsmeow-afk [23:50] <furrywolf2> which is why I said earlier than I had neither the money nor time.
19:15 GuShH_ chris_99: you don't want to say what it is because you fear you might lose your "million dollar" idea..
19:15 GuShH_ tell you what, it's not worth 2 cents.
19:15 katsmeow-afk [23:16] <furrywolf2> I need to find stuff to sell, not buy things.
19:16 chris_99 yeah sure that's it GuShH_
19:16 GuShH_ you just can't get help if you don't give as many details as possible on your particular problem, plain and simple.
19:16 furrywolf2 katsmeow-afk: I combined both of those into one. I don't need a pneumatic valve actuator, and it sells for quite a bit. :P
19:16 chris_99 i'm simply trying to detect rectangles
19:16 chris_99 coloured ones
19:16 GuShH_ "Oh I want to detect something that may look like a thingy"
19:17 GuShH_ chris_99: if you detect the separate objects and register them, figuring out whether they're rectangles is trivial.
19:17 katsmeow-afk each side is a color?
19:17 rue_shop4 oh oh oh I saw it~
19:17 tsmeow-afk plugs in a soldering
19:17 chris_99 the problem is detecting the separate objects though
19:17 rue_shop4 !
19:17 GuShH_ chris_99: unless you have a wacky perspective.
19:18 chris_99 and yeah, they can be @ an odd perspective
19:18 GuShH_ chris_99: again, disclose the information or you won't get help... not because I don't want to help, but because it's impossible to help.
19:18 GuShH_ meh food.
19:18 rue_shop4 WHER!?
19:18 GuShH_ kitchen! I think
19:18 furrywolf2 katsmeow-afk: want to buy a valve actuator? :)
19:18 rue_shop4 DAMNIT! THEIR CLEVER HIDING IT IN TEH KITCHEN, ITS THE LAST PLACE i WOULD SUSPECT
19:19 chris_99 i have rectangles which i'm going to use as markers, and using a camera to detect them, but the rectangles can be at many different angles obviously
19:19 katsmeow-afk prolly won't fit my valves
19:19 rue_shop4 the actuator goes IN the valves? damn, nowonder this isn't working
19:20 katsmeow-afk 30 min more sunlite, and i just don't feel like going outside
19:20 rue_shop4 I want to go to sleep right now
19:21 furrywolf2 chris_99: perform edge detection, pick points in a grid, expand outwards until you find edges and corners.
19:21 katsmeow-afk isn't that an odd position to sleep in?
19:21 furrywolf2 if you find four corners connected by edges, you found a rectangle.
19:21 chris_99 don't i need to do corner detection then too furrywolf
19:21 furrywolf2 corner detection isn't too hard.
19:22 furrywolf2 you could also just scan for corners, then see what sets of potential corners are connected by edges.
19:22 chris_99 hmm, if i do corner detection, can i avoid edge detection, or is that a necessary prior step
19:23 katsmeow-afk if you hold on, furry will have all your homework done for you :-)
19:23 chris_99 it's not homework
19:23 katsmeow-afk you at work?
19:23 furrywolf2 this valve controller has a 32-but uC in it, and comes with software to talk to it.
19:23 furrywolf2 bit
19:23 chris_99 and no i'm not at work kanzure
19:23 chris_99 *katsmeow
19:24 furrywolf2 the software apparantly has so many options that it comes with a "guided start up" mode.
19:26 GuShH_ furrywolf2: you reckon steering fluid will do just fine on my hydraulic jack?
19:26 GuShH_ it doesn't say what viscosity it is but it seems very similar to the 10W the jack uses
19:26 GuShH_ not sure about the additives if they may swell up the o-rings or similar though
19:27 GuShH_ I know break fluid will do that.
19:27 furrywolf2 brake fluid is glycol, and eats everything meant for oil.
19:27 furrywolf2 most oils are compatible
19:27 furrywolf2 10W sounds awfully thin, though.
19:27 ShH_ can't afford a new jack, possibly not even a rebuild
19:28 GuShH_ furrywolf: it feels just as thin, almost like cooking oil
19:28 GuShH_ it may be the reason why it keeps squirting when I barely open the release valve
19:28 katsmeow-afk on the other paw, nearly any oil can be a brake fluid, just beware mixing them
19:28 GuShH_ (o-ring is fine)
19:29 furrywolf2 katsmeow-afk: oil WILL eat the seals used on brake parts. I've seen it done.
19:29 GuShH_ heh
19:29 furrywolf2 a matter of hours until every part of the system is toast.
19:29 GuShH_ what about the clutch?
19:30 furrywolf2 a friend was out of brake fluid, and though adding power steering would be a good substitute...
19:30 GuShH_ eek
19:30 tsmeow-afk sighs, and refuses to restste and minutely qualify all her w
19:30 furrywolf2 trashed the master cylinder by the next day...
19:31 furrywolf2 wheel cylinders survived, but probably only because the oil didn't reach them.
19:31 GuShH_ not sure what "beware mixing them" means, other than don't mix the existing fluid with the new one, which doesn't matter since it appears it would cause damage anyway.
19:31 GuShH_ how much did it cost him/her to fix the mess?
19:32 rue_house wonder if I still have a windwos 98se key
19:32 furrywolf2 nothing except some new brake fluid... he pulled the master off a parts truck.
19:32 furrywolf2 then flushed everything well
19:33 GuShH_ could've been an expensive lesson though
19:33 furrywolf2 hrmm, looks like this valve actuator is pretty useless without more parts... the output on the bottom of it is only a pilot output, meant for driving a big servo-like thing, which then drives the actual valve.
19:34 GuShH_ ok so 19/32... this is probably why they recommended using a 15MM wrench on these nuts, which is wrong anyway.
19:34 rue_house how long was it in?
19:34 ShH_ hates the local mechanics, they'll force their way through any
19:34 rue_house You have: 19inch/32
19:34 rue_house You want: mm
19:34 rue_house * 15.08125
19:34 rue_house GuShH_,
19:35 GuShH_ yes
19:35 rue_house ^^
19:35 rue_house your 15mm wrench is gonna be too small by .08125mm
19:35 GuShH_ indeed.
19:35 rue_house so I dont think it'll work
19:35 GuShH_ rue_house: and yet they recommended I got a 15mm, but I stuck with this old rusty thing (which looked to be the right size, but I couldn't read the size!)
19:36 rue_house I found a 19/22 in my shop, I can list it on ebay for you, but I cant list it for less than $80
19:36 GuShH_ huh?
19:36 GuShH_ making fun of me now :(
19:36 katsmeow-afk wow
19:36 rue_house I cant sell the 19/22 to you for less than $80
19:36 GuShH_ rue_house: I swear it looked like a 2.
19:36 rue_house and I'll have to add shipping to that
19:36 GuShH_ until I wet sanded the whole thing
19:37 katsmeow-afk why so much $ ?
19:37 rue_house its 19/222
19:37 rue_house er 19/22
19:37 rue_house RARE wrench
19:37 GuShH_ piece of shit made in taiwan wrench, which is why I wanted to buy a new one. sanded: http://gushh.net/tmp/19_32.jpg
19:38 katsmeow-afk not really, take any wrench that's the next size up, and sand it
19:38 rue_house GuShH_ has a 15mm, but its .08125mm too small
19:38 katsmeow-afk err, size down
19:38 GuShH_ rue_house: I have both
19:39 rue_house oh I have a guy who will give me $85 for it, your gonna have to offer me more than that..
19:39 e_house tries to remember what he came here t
19:39 rue_house oh 98se iso
19:39 katsmeow-afk rue, if you can sell them like that, i'll make more for you
19:40 ShH_ slaps rue_house ar
19:40 rue_house :) maybe we should make some 45/92's also...
19:40 furrywolf2 http://img.directindustry.com/images_di/photo-m2/triple-offset-butterfly-valves-7017-2702407.jpg I have the top silver bit. I don't have the big blue bit in the middle. This makes this valve controller a lot less useful than it could be.
19:40 GuShH_ lol
19:41 rue_house its just a right angle drive
19:41 furrywolf2 since it can't be used without more bits... straight to ebay with it!
19:42 rue_house I wonder if my 98se iso is bootable
19:42 rue_house somehow I recall its not
19:42 rue_house maybe I should have started with a dos boot floppy
19:43 furrywolf2 why the hell would you install such a useless piece of software?
19:43 rue_house iirc I installed dos on them, then copied the 98 isntall disk over, then ran the isntall from the harddrive
19:43 rue_house furrywolf, it runs good on the machine, and xp has the whole genuine thing going on
19:43 furrywolf2 so install linux.
19:44 furrywolf2 it will run better, and won't claim it's illegal to use it.
19:44 rue_house na, its the only windows machine
19:44 rue_house actaully.... its not...
19:44 rue_house I forgot about the other one
19:44 GuShH_ have to agree with furrywolf2... go with linux
19:45 rue_house I wonder how fast 98 runs on a 1.2G board...
19:45 GuShH_ won't run better, it'll just run properly
19:45 rue_house I cant make a linux workstation for less than a p4-3G, cause its apparently not acceptable if it cant play youtube videos
19:46 furrywolf2 flash sucks on all OSes. youtube videos will play just fine in mplayer on most any remotely modern box.
19:46 furrywolf2 mplayer can play a .flv video with about a tenth the cpu than flash will play the same video.
19:47 GuShH_ html5?
19:47 GuShH_ still a resource hog?
19:48 furrywolf2 the problem isn't html5, the problem is most places, including youtube (despite having their own codec they could use), used h.264, which most things, such as firefox, won't play.
19:48 Tom_itx rue_house i bet dos runs pretty quick on it
19:50 rue_shop4 hahaha I dont know how I write a floppy
19:52 Tom_itx rue_house you remember that utility cd i gave you?
19:52 Tom_itx it's a boot disk
19:52 Tom_itx gives you an A: prompt
19:52 rue_shop4 oh no, I forgot how long it takes for microsoft to format a drive
19:54 rue_shop4 maybe i should use a 98 boot disk
19:54 rue_shop4 what did theBear say
19:54 katsmeow-afk i'd say start it and get back to it tomorrow, but 2 min after you leave it will pop up a dialog box asking if you're sure you want to do that, and then freeze
19:54 rue_house dude, remember? you have another se machine
19:55 furrywolf2 I'd say installing an ancient version of windows is an exercise in uselessness.
19:55 furrywolf2 and you're wasting time.
19:55 katsmeow-afk and iam building a psu that's NOT A SWITCHER
19:56 furrywolf2 ok.
19:56 furrywolf2 that's still useful.
19:56 furrywolf2 installing win98 on something is like deciding your psu needs to have a few valves in it too. :P
19:57 rue_shop4 its a 600Mhz machine with 384M of ram
19:57 rue_shop4 and linux dosn't print worth ****

19:58 katsmeow-afk <giggle>
19:58 furrywolf2 ... linux prints MUCH BETTER than windows.
19:58 furrywolf2 windows printing is utter shit. if you want decent printing, adobe will happily sell you their own printing solutions.
20:00 rue_shop4 not t my experiance
20:00 rue_shop4 the print managers are quite disorganized

20:00 rue_shop4 applications usually dont know what they are sending and by the time it gets to paper its not right
20:01 furrywolf2 I tried printing maps from windows once, and found out there's simply no way to get any standard windows print driver to do >100dpi... sure, they'll dither to whatever the hardware can do, but they won't take high-resolution input...
20:01 furrywolf2 adobe will sell you products that will...
20:01 Tom_itx rue_shop4, do you think those ibm full height flippy steppers would work for reprap?
20:01 furrywolf2 aren't those ibm floppy steppers basically when repraps use?
20:01 Tom_itx i'm not sure
20:02 furrywolf2 rue_house: the actual print drivers work much better... especially with epson printers.
20:02 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/motors/stepper1.jpg
20:02 rue_shop4 technically, no, but the ones from the impact printers are a close match I'm sure
20:02 furrywolf2 if you stick with cups and cups-aware applications, the software and the backend talk well.
20:03 furrywolf2 otherwise you have to use lpr/lp, which as you said, the software isn't really aware of what you're printing to... but it does always work.
20:04 furrywolf2 cups is gretting pretty much standard, and only old software doesn't use it.

20:37 Tom_itx rue_shop4 have you looked at slic3r yet?
20:37 katsmeow-afk done while on irc, so what did you do?
20:37 delinquentme Tom_itx, you're playing with 3d printers?
20:38 Tom_itx no i'm sitting on my butt
20:38 Tom_itx doing pretty much nothing right now
20:38 delinquentme haha I meant as you're talking a bout slic3r
20:38 Tom_itx not yet
20:38 delinquentme have you seen the brand new tri-extruder?
20:38 Tom_itx no
20:39 delinquentme http://richrap.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/3-way-quick-fit-extruder-and-colour.html
20:40 furrywolf2 heh, I was just telling rue the other day he needed a cmyk extruder so he could make really shiny things.
20:41 katsmeow-afk Broadcasts in 8K will offer a resolution of 7,680 by 4,320 pixels - roughly the equivalent of a 32 megapixel photo.
20:41 katsmeow-afk That is 16 times as sharp as current HD TVs offering about 2MP resolutions.
20:42 tsmeow-afk remembers when having just 16 characters across a screen was ama
20:42 furrywolf2 and quite a bit sharper than anyone will be able to care about.
20:43 furrywolf2 hrmm, that one isn't built the way I was going to do it, though. I was going to have seperate heaters for each color, feeding into a separate heated mixer, to allow color mixing and minimal waste when changing colors.
20:44 Tom_itx nice
20:45 furrywolf2 one of these days I should mount an extruder on my mill, just in case I ever want plastic parts... 99% of the work is the xyz table, and there's no reason to build a new one when I could just bolt random stuff to my mill. :)
20:46 Tom_itx i'm considering it
20:46 Tom_itx since i now have pretty decent speed on mine
20:48 furrywolf2 I've also been accumulating parts to make a 60Krpm spindle
20:48 furrywolf2 for running pcb milling bits and other things that really like to spin fast.
20:50 furrywolf2 I wonder if you could get away with a simple mixer tube (spirals, slots, etc), or if you'd need a powered auger-type device to really get even color mixing.

20:55 katsmeow-afk rue, amp capacity, warm, of 22awg thhn ?
20:56 katsmeow-afk drat it, i should use 18 anyhow, the transformer is wound with it, and i have 100amps of pass transistor
20:56 furrywolf2 hrmm. from experience, I know 18awg melts around 40A in moderately open air.
20:56 furrywolf2 (making current shunts. :)
20:57 katsmeow-afk i don't want to melt it
20:58 rue_shop4 22 guage?
20:58 rue_shop4 3A I think
21:08 furrywolf2 I wonder how small you could make a powered mixing chamber... something that would mix 3-5 input feeds into a visually uniform output, while being small enough to not waste much during sudden color changes, not add air bubbles to the mixture, etc.
21:11 Tom_itx the filament is 3mm
21:15 furrywolf2 probably doesn't even need to be that complicated... at that small of size, just a smooth rod spinning in a cavity might mix them pretty well.
21:16 tsmeow-afk keeps on solde
21:17 furrywolf2 good thing I didn't keep on tickling you! that could have been messy.
21:18 katsmeow-afk and painfull
21:20 rue_shop4 ok the temp detector is a few degrees off, but thats ok, cause I'm not using the right parts anyhow
21:21 furrywolf2 add a pot. adjust.
21:21 rue_shop4 na, I can have it regenerate the table with the real paramiters
21:21 rue_shop4 next step is to set up a heater and see if it can control it

21:49 theBear don't feel bad, i slept all of yesterday
21:49 theBear i aint used to this working all day every day stuff
21:50 ace4016 saturday is suppose to be my rest day...although i guess that means physical rest...not mentally vegging out too...which I have more or less done
21:50 furrywolf2 I get to work sundays too now.
21:51 katsmeow-afk i thought it was just another work day, but the neighbors stayed home

21:56 rue_shop4 my buddies kidneys are shot from tylenol

21:57 katsmeow-afk which is another thing, try to stay off those two drugs
22:05 furrywolf2 brb, going to go get some food... too tired to deal with cooking, and I'm out of water too.
22:09 furrywolf2 plus my internet connection is flaking too.
22:11 katsmeow-afk out of water?
22:11 katsmeow-afk dry well?
22:13 furrywolf2 I'd need to boil it, as I haven't had it tested, and it's a pretty shallow well...
22:17 katsmeow-afk oh
22:17 katsmeow-afk sounds pricey, why have you not connected the RO system?
22:17 furrywolf2 the uv-and-ro plan is just that, a plan, like so many other plans.
22:17 furrywolf2 that takes time, money, and energy.
22:18 katsmeow-afk but you have all the parts
22:19 katsmeow-afk rue, i was protien deficicent because i wasn't, and very very rarely, eat anything that had a face
22:19 furrywolf2 I don't have the uv unit or any suitable parts, and I suspect all three of my ro systems have bad membranes. I also have no water to the house yet. and the landlord, when I spoke to him yesterday, has asked me to make sure the entire property has a "problem" with the water, to help hasten the neighbor's removal.
22:20 katsmeow-afk erg
22:20 furrywolf2 I'm going to swap the one working pump (of the three I had in parallel) out and put back in the one that failed, which will make sure the water doesn't work usefull, while making horrible grinding noises.
22:21 furrywolf2 he thinks making life as difficult on the neighbor as possible will make her easier to remove.
22:22 furrywolf2 or maybe I should just put a hidden switch on the working pump, flip it on when I need water, and flip it back off when done...
22:22 tsmeow-afk is so not good with human politics, but this sounds sc
22:23 katsmeow-afk wait, your pump is her pump?
22:23 furrywolf2 yep
22:23 katsmeow-afk :-/
22:23 furrywolf2 my pump is the property's pump, which includes her.
22:24 furrywolf2 she just... won't leave. because of legal/permit issues, the landlord can't call the police and have her forcefully evicted. she has no rental agreement, doesn't pay rent, steals crap, and in general shouldn't be here... but she won't leave, and he can't use the cops to make her.
22:26 katsmeow-afk well, if he asked you, i'd find a way to kill the pump, power, etc, in ways she cannot restart them,,,,,,,,,,, course she may be like me and make her own water source and power
22:27 furrywolf2 her power is independent, consisting of stolen solar panels (although fewer - the landlord reclaimed the ones she stole from him) and her own batteries/inverter.
22:27 furrywolf2 can't kill it.
22:28 furrywolf2 she's utterly useless, and can't make water on her own.
22:28 furrywolf2 her power consists of random wire twisted on the panels and connected right to a battery with jumper cables.
22:28 furrywolf2 and only because someone showed her how.
22:29 furrywolf2 (not me)
22:29 katsmeow-afk what if the twisted wires overheated?
22:29 furrywolf2 then it'd catch fire, which is a bad thing.
22:29 katsmeow-afk oh
22:38 katsmeow-afk why won't eagle open a empty project so i can make it not empty?
22:39 furrywolf2 I decided eagle was garbage, but that may be unrelated.
22:39 katsmeow-afk why garbage?
22:40 rue_livingrm your just not used to the methods they use
22:40 rue_livingrm its the same with drafting programs
22:40 furrywolf2 bad interface, overpriced, ugly printouts, evil license files and crap, buggy.
22:40 rue_livingrm are you accustomed to a drafting program?
22:40 katsmeow-afk no
22:42 katsmeow-afk ...
22:42 katsmeow-afk rue?
22:44 rue_livingrm furry
22:45 furrywolf2 what?
22:45 katsmeow-afk i was stupidly hoping you'd explain how to do what i was trying to do
22:45 katsmeow-afk instead, i just closed eagle and get out paper and pencil
22:46 furrywolf2 that's what I did every time I tried using eagle, too.
22:54 katsmeow-afk ok, so no discusson of electronics in here.......... Tom, why are the farmers on http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/24/us/drought-missouri-dairy-farmers/index.html?hpt=hp_c2 not drilling wells or tapping creeks for water?
22:56 furrywolf2 laws.
22:56 katsmeow-afk law against wells??
22:57 furrywolf2 hell yes. wells are probably the most-reglated thing you can do on private property other than build things that explode.
22:57 katsmeow-afk but aren't there lots of well drilling companies?
22:58 katsmeow-afk 7.5 gallons of water flow is 324,500 gallons/month, or a whole acre-foot of water per month
23:01 katsmeow-afk is anyone here but furry and me?
23:02 DagoRed me
23:02 DagoRed :)
23:02 DagoRed I'm working on installing arch for my first time.
23:03 DagoRed I need to get this cross compiler set up.
23:03 katsmeow-afk o
23:03 DagoRed Future work.
23:03 DagoRed err... It's needed for future work when I go to work with Arch-arm project.
23:04 furrywolf2 to get a well legally, you need a permit. the size of the well determines how complicated getting this permit is. when it comes to irrigation-sized wells, it's a major process.
23:05 katsmeow-afk 7.5 gallons/min is hardly irrigation sized
23:08 katsmeow-afk i used google to look around that town mentioned, the area is crisscrossed with small creeks and streams
23:08 furrywolf2 a quick google finds some numbers that look like hay needs ~2 acre-feet/season to grow, so a well that produces an acre-foot a month is good for watering... an acre. an acre is not much of a farm.
23:09 katsmeow-afk umm, 2 acre feet a month is way more per year than a growing season
23:09 katsmeow-afk err, 1 acreft per well
23:09 furrywolf2 so maybe they'll get 1.5 acres from that well...
23:09 katsmeow-afk err, 1 acreft per well per month
23:10 furrywolf2 you can't just put in more wells close together. it draws down the water table in a cone-shape around each well.
23:10 katsmeow-afk no, you said hay needs 2 acreft/season, a season may be 6 months or more, so having one well give 1 acreft for 6 mo is 6 acrefeet total
23:10 katsmeow-afk i know
23:11 furrywolf2 in many areas, the groundwater reserves are pretty much exhausted, so you have to put in a very deep, expensive well to get any water at all, and even then you might not be allowed to.
23:11 furrywolf2 if you pull more water, your neighbors get less water. or there's subsidence and bad things, too.
23:11 katsmeow-afk beats buying $20,000 of hay
23:12 katsmeow-afk i am talking keeping some cows alive, not startng a massive cow industry
23:12 katsmeow-afk these farmers do not have enough acres to totally support their cows 356 days / yr anyhow
23:13 katsmeow-afk they breed, then wean in early spring to sell start of winter
23:13 furrywolf2 I don't know about in missouri, but around here, water access is a major political issue.
23:13 katsmeow-afk most do not hay their own fields
23:14 furrywolf2 it's in the papers every week, there's protests, there's people buying politicians, there's lobbyists, there's grassroots movements, there's indian tribal rights, there's environmental groups, there's fisheries, etc, etc, etc.
23:15 furrywolf2 and we have plentiful water compared to many states.
23:15 katsmeow-afk you have imported water from those other states
23:15 Tom_itx we got nearly 3" today
23:15 furrywolf2 this part of the state exports more water than it consumes.
23:15 Tom_itx hurray!
23:15 Tom_itx and gnite
23:15 tsmeow-afk gives up and deleted E
23:16 furrywolf2 water access is a massive, constant battle, and we have spare.
23:17 katsmeow-afk why theheck can't anyone talk about eagle?
23:17 Tom_itx i've not seen you ask i'm sorry..
23:17 furrywolf2 you can't pull it from streams, or fish die, and your neighbor might lose their water. you can't pull it from wells, or the water level drops, land subsisdes, and your neighbors lose their water too.
23:17 Tom_itx i was a bit preoccupied tonight
23:17 furrywolf2 I got pissed off at it well before figuring out how to make it useful.
23:18 DagoRed Eagle? The PCB layout software?
23:18 katsmeow-afk [22:27] <katsmeow-afk> why won't eagle open a empty project so i can make it not empty?
23:18 Tom_itx katsmeow-afk what's the problem?
23:18 Tom_itx oh
23:18 Tom_itx well it should
23:18 katsmeow-afk yeas, it should
23:18 Tom_itx open a new project then start a new schematic there
23:18 Tom_itx then save it
23:19 katsmeow-afk it won't open a new project
23:19 Tom_itx opening a new project is basically just creating a directory for it
23:19 Tom_itx it must be corrupt then
23:19 katsmeow-afk it probably isn't, but it has wierd ways and TWO user interface windows
23:20 katsmeow-afk besides, when i ask "how", telling me to "just do it" isn't an answer
23:20 Tom_itx it creates an eagle.epf file in the directory i believe
23:21 Tom_itx what eagle ver?
23:21 katsmeow-afk i haveto reinstall it to get the version?
23:21 Tom_itx no
23:22 katsmeow-afk 5.7.0, i think
23:22 Tom_itx ok
23:22 Tom_itx i'm still using 4.16 iirc
23:22 Tom_itx but i have 5 here somewhere
23:22 Tom_itx no big differences there for opening a new project
23:23 katsmeow-afk ...
23:23 Tom_itx should just File --> open --> new project
23:23 Tom_itx then right after that File --> open --> schematic
23:24 Tom_itx you can name the project if you wish
23:24 katsmeow-afk nope, file - open - projet (all pre-existing)
23:25 Tom_itx something seems wrong there
23:25 Tom_itx i would suggest reinstalling it and try that
23:25 Tom_itx i'm not sure what's going on with that
23:25 katsmeow-afk did
23:26 katsmeow-afk While inside a board, schematic, or library editor window, pressing F1 or entering the command HELP will open the help page for the currently active command.
23:27 Tom_itx err i meant to say file .. new .. project
23:27 Tom_itx sry
23:27 katsmeow-afk i cannot get an editor window, because i cannot make a new project to open
23:27 Tom_itx then file ... new ... schematic
23:29 Tom_itx gonna go sleep a bit now
23:29 katsmeow-afk there's no transistor outlines
23:29 Tom_itx ask me tomorrow and i'll try to help but that's what i'll tell ya then too
23:29 katsmeow-afk transistor-power.lbr is empty
23:29 katsmeow-afk k
23:29 Tom_itx shouldn't be
23:30 Tom_itx did you "USE" all the libs first?
23:30 katsmeow-afk it popped up a window, with a grid, and no parts
23:30 katsmeow-afk not all
23:30 katsmeow-afk transistor-power.lbr
23:30 Tom_itx well the ones you need...
23:31 katsmeow-afk crap
23:32 Tom_itx mine shows parts in it
23:32 katsmeow-afk gnite
23:32 Tom_itx sleep.
23:34 delinquentme does digitalRead() on the arduino have a decay when switching from HIGH to LOW ... at the hardware level?
23:35 delinquentme when I connect the +5v to the pin it instantly goes HIGH
23:35 delinquentme but when I pull it
23:35 delinquentme it takes a while to decay into a LOW state
23:35 delinquentme can something be done for this?
23:35 katsmeow-afk resistor to gnd, or enable the internal pulldown
23:36 katsmeow-afk bbl
23:36 delinquentme yeah resistarrrr!
23:41 furrywolf2 it should be less than one clock cycle, unless you're doing something wrong, or the arduino is idiotic.
