00:20 GuShH I repainted the little motor, assembled it and gave it a run with the bad cap, it actually started -almost- fine, it was pouring rain so I didn't want to get a new cap today. Anyway, that's sorted.
00:21 GuShH used 20cc of paint only... the wonders of spray painting.
00:21 GuShH ...probably used more solvent to clean the gun.
00:23 ShH forgot to take pictures of the p
00:28 rue_house so i got a tube of the high temp silicone for my extruder head today
00:28 rue_house used about 1g to seal it and put the rest in storage
00:29 rue_house it only cost $12, so I'm still saving money if the head works
00:32 furrywolf welder. bbl, bedtime.
00:32 rue_house did you try some welding?
00:33 rue_house it is a stick or wirefeed?
00:33 furrywolf wirefeed. wire liner is shot, but otherwise works.
00:34 rue_house hmm
00:34 rue_house I thik I have a similar unit, I opened it up and laughed
00:34 rue_house one of those "no way, really" moments
03:11 GuShH holy crap, why are digital pressure gauges so expensive?
10:20 GuShH furrywolf: any idea if bondo will stick to copper, specifically 50 year old corroded copper
10:21 GuShH it would be a shame to replace it with a styrofoam floater, I've heard about glass floats but never copper...
10:58 furrywolf bondo doesn't stick to anything very well.
11:05 furrywolf just spent $21 for a complete set of new diodes for the welder... bleh.
11:06 furrywolf and, why is amazon trying to sell me porn dvds after I bought diodes? lol
11:06 furrywolf (found them cheaper on amazon than anywhere else... couldn't even find them on digikey)
11:06 LoRez diodes are hot
11:12 furrywolf amazon is suggesting I buy camera batteries, winch solenoids, wireless routers, rf connectors, and... girl-on-guy porn dvds.
11:18 furrywolf I've never bought a porn dvd from anywhere, including amazon. I don't even like porn. why are they trying to sell me them? lol
11:19 GuShH furrywolf: well I ended up using hot glue, because I couldn't be bothered to mix the bondo and possibly find out it wouldn't stick properly
11:19 GuShH and, made my own rubber seal so I didn't have to waste time finding one at the store... so that's good.
11:20 GuShH I installed the floater so the good side is down and the patched side is up, but I wanted to make it entirely water proof that's why I needed some sort of material to fill up the tiny hole it had.
11:20 ShH may end up buying a styrofoam replacement when it comes down to i
11:21 GuShH so now I'm only left with the electrical side of this heating system... and some valves I haven't fixed yet.
11:21 GuShH for some reason the thermostat on the wall is wired so it goes closed circuit when the temperature is reached, instead of going open circuit to lift the relay. not sure how they wired it up...
11:22 furrywolf dunno. I've spent very little time in houses with central heat, and never worked on it.
11:23 furrywolf both heating and air conditioning are considered optional here... most people just have a wood stove for cold winter nights.
11:23 GuShH my fireplace isn't very efficient, I would need to make it into a closed system otherwise I'm losing most of the heat out the chimney
11:24 GuShH you can't even adjust the draft, I could start by that I guess...
11:24 GuShH I hear up to 70% of the heat is lost on a regular fireplace, it sounds way too high though.
11:25 GuShH but I would believe it, specially because they didn't even bother to make the corners 45° to reflect the heat properly, they used 90° everywhere.
11:25 LoRez furrywolf: where's "here"?
11:25 GuShH I don't have air conditioning "here" though
11:26 GuShH not even sure I could run a couple split units properly with the current wiring of the house.
11:26 GuShH I'm looking into more passive, cheaper / smarter solutions
11:27 furrywolf LoRez: coastal northern california
11:27 furrywolf far northern, not that bay area that calls themselves northern.
11:27 GuShH recirculating the air and using ceramic piping underground (1 meter deep or so) into a closed loop could help, I do need better insulation but it's hard to do it with brick walls...
11:28 GuShH something everyone seems to want these days is a "water wall" and they claim it can drop the temperature of a regular house by 2-3°C
11:28 LoRez close to Oregon northern
11:28 furrywolf correct.
11:28 furrywolf Eureka area
11:29 ShH has also heard about "green walls" where they cover a wall with plants and make it part of the air sy
11:29 GuShH the way I see it the water would increase the humidity while it lowers the temperature, but perhaps I'm wrong.
11:30 furrywolf you could just get a swamp cooler if that's what you wanted.
11:30 GuShH in very hot areas people use mist jets outside to cool down the ambient temperature, but that's a bit extreme.
11:30 GuShH furrywolf: I'm not familiar with the term
11:31 GuShH but just about anything will require less power than AC units.
11:31 GuShH and you don't need to be at 18°C or less in summer.
11:32 furrywolf swamp coolers use evaporating water to cool the air... they're popular in some parts of the US that I've never been to, apparantly.
11:32 GuShH oh evaporating coolers...
11:32 furrywolf you'd need to google for details, as I've never seen one.
11:33 GuShH the idea of a water wall falls on the same principle
11:33 GuShH the water falls and this big surface area acts as an evaporative cooler
11:35 GuShH I like the idea of the big ceramic pipes buried underground
11:38 furrywolf around here, anything that increases the humidity doesn't work, as humidity is always high to start with...
11:45 furrywolf right now, we have... Humidity: 87 %
11:45 furrywolf note that the sensor in my weather station only reads up to 90%, and it's very non-linear over 85%.
11:48 furrywolf bbl, need to head to the courthouse to apply for a business license.
11:48 furrywolf I seriously fucking hate the courthouse. they make you do the airport security scan procedure just to get in the door.
11:48 furrywolf can't bring in your leatherman, a flashlight, or anything else.
11:48 joink well, at least it's more sane to have those scanners there :
11:49 joink as they deal with a lot of shady people :)
11:49 furrywolf no, it's not sane. they put them in a few years ago. in the ~100 year history of the courthouse, there had been a grand total of ZERO violent crimes comitted in the building. Not a single one.
11:50 furrywolf They took a non-existant problem, and now pay four cops full-time to sit there and violate people's rights.
11:50 furrywolf and since the entire county administration is in the building, you have to go through this shit for even normal activities, like a business license, paying your property taxes, getting a birth certificate, etc, etc, etc.
11:51 furrywolf because we all know people paying their property taxes or a business license need to partially strip, empty their pockets, take off their shoes, etc.
11:57 GuShH furrywolf: what can you possibly do with a pocket flashlight?
11:57 GuShH that would make them want to take it from you...
11:58 GuShH you could start a fire, or detonate something.... sure, might as well use their power outlets.
11:58 ShH shakes
12:00 furrywolf you can club someone over the head. even if it's 3" long and has a single li-ion cell in it.
12:00 furrywolf of course, a handy stapler, book, etc could do that even better...
12:05 GuShH furrywolf: you can do that with a shoe, and cause far greater damage.
12:05 GuShH say I'm wearing steel toe work boots right now...
12:05 GuShH forget the flashlight.
12:06 GuShH and you are right, anything nearby can serve as a weapon, which is why they should get rid of everything and talk through an embedded speaker on the wall, while they hide behind said wall.
12:07 GuShH because at any minute a bunch of zombies could walk in.
12:10 furrywolf some offices in the courthouse, like the sheriff's office, do that.
12:12 furrywolf bbl
13:04 GuShH this shop is too efficient, so much that I sent them an email and went to fix some more radiator valves and when I came back they had answered almost an hour ago and such is my bad luck I didn't answer in time for them to send me the stuff today, it'll have to be tomorrow :(
13:05 GuShH they're literally glued to their inbox, which is good but I can't be glued to mine all the time!
13:06 GuShH since they only have one delivery truck they need to deliver on a per distance basis, I would've been the first in that list :(
19:20 rue_house power outages are getting annoying
19:20 Tom_itx yup
19:21 rue_house when did tobbor come back?
19:21 rue_house !time
19:21 rue_house !time
19:21 rue_house oh
19:22 rue_house I see
19:22 rue_house not good
19:22 Tom_itx didn't
19:24 e_house sits
19:24 Tom_itx ask zlog if you missed something
19:25 rue_house no i want to know how long the power was out
19:26 rue_house it hd to be a few hours, my UPS is pretty good
19:32 Tom_itx no gen?
19:32 rue_house justtalked to a shop I didn't know did engines, they say they can get one
19:33 rue_house new carb
19:33 rue_house or $1300 for a 8kw
19:33 Tom_itx seems a bit high
19:33 rue_house good brand, I think
19:33 rue_house wholesaler
19:35 Tom_itx you saw my video didn't you?
19:36 rue_house http://www.generac.com/Portables/XG/Products/XG8000E/
19:36 rue_house cutting boxes or zeroing
19:36 rue_house you have but two videos
19:36 Tom_itx zro
19:36 Tom_itx generac are good
19:36 Tom_itx make sure it's an ohc engine
19:36 Tom_itx ohv
19:37 rue_house Generac?s OHVI? is the only engine d
19:40 rue_house looks pretty good actually
19:40 rue_house if its electric start, I can have it autostart on powerfail
19:42 rue_house ah, if its an E its electric start
19:42 Tom_itx my friend got one from an old grocery store 18kw electric start
19:42 Tom_itx and he added a mains switch pannel so it started when power fails
19:42 rue_house run a few houses
19:42 rue_house I have a 200A transfer switch
19:42 rue_house 3 phase :) 600V rated
19:43 rue_house prolly useless for single phase, but I can fix that with an AVR
19:43 Tom_itx if i were you i wouldn't screw with your old gen
19:43 rue_house !time
19:43 rue_house !time
19:43 tobbor My watch says its 17:32 Thu Aug 09 2012
19:43 Tom_itx you've lost power too many times
19:44 rue_house for $80 I COULD get a new carb
19:44 rue_house another updraft
19:44 Tom_itx didn't it have an issue with the exhaust too?
19:44 rue_house 8kw would mean I could charge the 5kw UPS while running on it
19:45 rue_house it'd prolyl be quieter
19:45 Tom_itx not much
19:45 rue_house and it has a run hour meter built in, opposed to the one I plug in to what I have now
21:02 furrywolf put in a solar system
21:02 furrywolf with lots of batteries
21:03 furrywolf outback has inverters that will grid-tie and send power to the grid when the batteries are full and there's surplus power, run off the batteries if there's no surplus power, then charge the batteries off the grid if they go below a threshold you can set.
21:04 furrywolf so you only use power from the grid when you absolutely need to
21:29 Tom_itx guy ordered a tv from amazon dot com and they shipped him an asault rifle
21:30 Tom_itx maybe a ups screwup
21:31 furrywolf if that's what shows up, I should buy more TVs. :P
21:35 furrywolf wtf. the highway patrol has managed to make their pdf files unopenable in any non-acroread pdf viewer.
21:35 furrywolf apparantly, from what I'm finding googling, you can't open them on a mac even.
21:38 furrywolf which means I need to go there and get them to give me a printed copy. bleh.
21:41 furrywolf we're more than happy to force government branches to translate things to spanish for the immigrants who refuse to learn english, but heaven help you if you use a mac, or linux, or...
21:43 furrywolf apparantly it's encrypted with DRM, and there's nothing you can do about it, period.
21:43 furrywolf unless you use windows and adobe's product, you're out of luck.
21:44 LoRez acroread runs fine on linux.
21:45 furrywolf only if you don't have a problem installing a hundred megs of non-free software which happily clobbers random files.
21:45 furrywolf I tried that once on another box, and will never make that mistake again.
21:46 LoRez apt-get install acroread
21:46 LoRez 60M
21:47 furrywolf does it not strike you as seriously wrong that a file viewer needs 60MB of space?
21:47 furrywolf compressed
21:47 LoRez idgaf.
21:47 furrywolf then you shouldn't use free software.
21:49 LoRez high horse much?
21:49 Tom_itx daily
21:49 LoRez Tom_itx: just daily?
21:50 LoRez /forcenick furrywolf trollywolf
21:51 rrywolf looks up some pdf cracking t
21:51 furrywolf it's pretty sad that I'm going to need to use illegal (if you ask the DMCA people) tools to view forms provided by the government.
21:52 LoRez your problem is that a goverment agency "secured" their pdf. possibly they did it to keep people from tampering with it and redistributing altered copies, but it's more likely done from ignorance.
21:52 furrywolf they've done an excellent job keeping people from viewing or printing it, yes.
21:54 furrywolf and it wouldn't prevent people from altering or redistributing it, because it's trivial to print to a pdf file on every OS, which would give you a nice unencrypted version.
21:55 furrywolf hrmm, acroread phones home when you open pdf files? why does that not surprise me one bit? heh
21:56 furrywolf "The reader does not inform the user that information is being submitted, so users are likely to be oblivious to the fact that another party is aware of their PDF reading habits."
21:56 furrywolf as if I needed more reasons to never install any of the shit adobe produces.
22:04 furrywolf looks like qpdf might do this...
22:05 furrywolf except at 1.2K/sec, this will take a while to download. bleh.
22:06 furrywolf make that 991B/sec
22:06 furrywolf I do hope this new job lets me get a new isp...
22:07 LoRez man, you need to take some midol.
22:08 furrywolf because I stated the obvious (it's trivial to modify anything you can view)? or that I'm unhappy about spyware functions hidden in 60MB of mystery code? or that I'm annoyed it's going to take 27 minutes to download a few files?
22:08 LoRez I'm going to go with "yes"
22:10 furrywolf 2,172 B/sec! yay!
22:10 furrywolf I've asked, and I can get them to string a landline out here... going to get DSL as soon as I get enough spare cash. heh.
22:21 rue_bed 8pm!?
22:21 rue_bed !time
22:21 rue_bed !time
22:21 tobbor My watch says its 20:10 Thu Aug 09 2012
22:21 rue_bed ugh
22:22 furrywolf Thu Aug 9 20:10:58 PDT 2012
22:22 furrywolf seems to agree. :P
22:23 rue_bed I'm still exhausted
22:23 rue_bed maybe I'm comming down with something
22:29 rrywolf misses
22:42 furrywolf argh... the local newspaper has added a whole bunch of stupid animated bars and crap to their site since yesterday. time to fire up remove-it-permanently...
22:48 furrywolf blah... the cops got someone I know. the typical around here, growing weed and having a gun.
22:50 rue_shop3 ok the extruder head is sealed and re-assembled
22:50 furrywolf oh my god! he has a PLANT! it's an EVIL PLANT!
22:51 furrywolf I don't even smoke the shit, and I think it should be legal.
22:51 rue_shop3 oops I offset it wrong
22:51 rue_shop3 sigh
22:51 rue_shop3 do I care....
22:51 rue_shop3 ugh
22:53 furrywolf he's out on bail... I should head down the road tomorrow and ask him what really happened.
22:55 rue_shop3 bail is when cops hold people for ransom
22:56 furrywolf heh, forum postings show that the linux acroread will NOT view these files.
22:56 furrywolf so even if I installed 60mb of adobe's crap, I still wouldn't be able to print the form.
22:57 rue_shop3 ok I have the arduino up, I can make the temp controller and see if it can bring the head up to temp
22:57 rue_shop3 but its 9:20, 25 mins to bedtime
23:07 furrywolf looks like I'll need to find someone with a windows machine.
23:07 furrywolf I don't know anyone with windows machines.
23:07 furrywolf heh.
23:11 rue_shop3 didyou try document viewer?
23:11 rue_shop3 or is it a locked pdf?
23:12 furrywolf it's encrypted, which was easy to fix. what I haven't found an easy way to fix is that it seems to be carefully constructed, using scripting to decode its own contents, in a way that makes sure nothing but acroread on windows can deal with it.
23:13 furrywolf I'm finding lots of complaints googling, but no solutions.
23:20 furrywolf these new files apparantly break everything, including google docs.
23:33 rue_shop3 top secret military files?
23:33 rue_shop3 furrywolf, dont wine about it ;)
23:34 rue_shop3 ..
23:34 rue_shop3 furrywolf, dont WINE about it ;)
23:34 furrywolf no, the permit application that I need to have completed (and permit received) 11 days from now.
23:35 rue_shop3 ;) ;) ;)
23:35 furrywolf I need a motor carrier permit for the business I'm starting. they don't provide them at the local chp office. I need to either print the pdf file, or have one mailed from the capitol.
23:35 rue_shop3 furrywolf, dont W I N E about it ;-) ;-) ;-)
23:36 e_shop3 picks up the CLUE
23:36 e_shop3 picks up the CLUE-
23:37 furrywolf I do not even want to try making a massive piece of bloated crap run in wine.
23:37 goRed needs a vaca
23:37 rue_shop3 install it on a loopback image
23:37 DagoRed rue_shop3: how do you get time to build anything?
23:37 rue_shop3 I dont know
23:38 rue_shop3 but I'm aging at a fanominal rate
