00:27 rue_mohr I used linux to move explorer.exe to _explode.exe and copy system32/command.exe to explorer.exe
00:27 rue_mohr after booting back into windows I was able to run the activirus program that was on the desktop from the command prompt that winodws unknowingly used as a shell
00:28 rue_mohr because explorer hadn't run to start the virus, I was abel to install the antivirus software and clean the drive
00:28 rue_mohr after that I put exporer back and ran it again,
00:28 rue_mohr 3 infections were cleared up
00:28 orlok heh nice
00:29 orlok hows the printer going?
00:29 rue_mohr the "live securrity platinum" IS a malware program
00:29 Triffid_Hunter heh that reminds me of when my computer was barely capable of running games.. I had a script set up that would reboot the machine and feed the game exe to windows as its primary shell
00:29 rue_mohr I'm holdin the drive to put sbs&d on tommorow
00:29 rue_mohr back in winxp I used to use progman, but 7 dosn't come with progman.exe anymore
00:29 orlok Triffid_Hunter: remember game specific boot disks?
00:30 Triffid_Hunter orlok: yeah but I usually mangled those until they ran from my hard drive
00:30 rue_mohr the printer is going ok, I got a 3 stepper driver 'ready'
00:30 rue_mohr not tested yet
00:30 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: reprap needs 4 stepper drivers :P
00:30 rue_mohr and I made a replacement bed thats thicker, which should solve some problems I'm having
00:30 orlok X/Y/Z/extruder?
00:31 rue_mohr I'm using 5, tho the z motors are voltage based motors
00:31 orlok rue_mohr: apparently perfboard makes an ok bed
00:31 rue_mohr so they should parallel ok if I was just using plaint old transistors
00:31 rue_mohr orlok, the actual bed I'm using is glass
00:32 rue_mohr Triffid_Hunter, is glass an ok bed?
00:32 orlok rue_mohr: the hot plastic sinks a bit into the holes and "latches" on
00:32 rue_mohr isnt' that what heated beds are about?
00:32 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: we all use glass, it's the only thing that's flat enough for a sensible price
00:32 orlok http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96bDpBMmpfk
00:33 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: can be tricky getting the plastic to stick to it though, so best surface is glass with kapton or PET tape on it. apparently car window tint is mostly PET
00:33 Triffid_Hunter but not the house stuff
00:33 orlok she's not walking yet, but is already trying to climb out of her cage
00:33 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: most of us don't bother with heat resistant glass, picture frame glass or mirror tiles seem to work fine
00:33 rue_mohr on other fronts, jester got hte arduino software ready
00:34 rue_mohr I reainstalled openjdk jre on the linux machine and now keyboard input works, I tested with a modified led flashing program
00:34 rue_mohr Triffid_Hunter, blue painters tape, yes?
00:35 rue_mohr and I got the feeder bolt hobbed
00:35 rue_mohr I suppose I should have taken some photos of that
00:37 rue_mohr babies have such short attention sp... BUTTERFLY!
00:38 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: blue painter's tape works great for PLA, but not ABS
00:39 Triffid_Hunter kapton and PET work for both types
00:39 rue_mohr hmm
00:39 rue_mohr pet,
00:39 rue_mohr why not use a peice of a cookie tin?
00:40 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: some have had success with steel plates, especially when it comes to getting parts off
00:40 rue_mohr teflon = pet?
00:40 Triffid_Hunter hard to keep it sufficiently flat though. we really need it to be flat to within 50 microns or better across the entire surface
00:40 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: no, teflon = PTFE
00:40 rue_mohr tooo many acronyms
00:40 rue_mohr AAAAA
00:41 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: and last time I checked, nothing sticks to PTFE except elemental sodium and fluorine
00:41 rue_mohr American Alliance Against Acrynym Abuse
00:41 Triffid_Hunter not even PTFE itself which is why we don't use it for structural elements in hot-ends anymore
00:41 rue_mohr hu?
00:42 rue_mohr isn't there a ptfe pipe in the extruder?
00:42 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: yes but it's not structural. the structural part is PEEK
00:42 rue_mohr ah
00:43 Triffid_Hunter many people spent a lot of time making PTFE hot-ends. because PTFE slips over itself, they drop the barrel anywhere between a week and 6 months after first use
00:43 rue_mohr peek is suplimented with wood sometiesm yes?
00:43 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: there's sometimes a wooden mounting bracket at the top
00:43 rue_mohr hmm
00:44 rue_mohr if I can make the brass tube and nozzel, wonder what I make the insulator from
00:44 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: can you machine stainless steel?
00:44 rue_mohr no, brass
00:44 rue_mohr http://www.makergear.com/pages/superpack-instructions < ?
00:44 Triffid_Hunter because stainless has poor enough thermal conduction that it makes a fantastic insulator all by itself
00:44 rue_mohr I could use lead!
00:45 rue_mohr :)
00:45 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: if you want that style of extruder, the insulator section must be PEEK or something else that's thermally insulating and doesn't lose its shit at 240c
00:45 rue_mohr I wonder if the little electric kiln I have can fuse clay
00:46 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: heh love to see how long an M6 thread works in clay :P
00:46 rue_mohr I thought it was 1/4"-NC thread?
00:49 Triffid_Hunter metric has been around for over 200 years, those of us in the rest of the world actually use it :P
00:49 rue_mohr Triffid_Hunter, the kit I got, you mentioned you saw some peices you desgned, which ones?
00:49 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: don't recall, post your pic again
00:49 rue_mohr were beside the states, so iperial is about all thats available
00:49 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: or look up thingiverse.com/triffid_hunter/things and find them yourself :)
00:50 rue_mohr http://www.ebay.ca/itm/150820586185?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
00:50 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: makergear is an american company..
00:50 rue_mohr here we have to pay a lot extra for metric
00:50 rue_mohr if I'd used metric althread for the frame is would have trippled the threaded rod cost
00:50 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: I see my slotted Y motor mount
00:51 rue_mohr ok
00:51 Triffid_Hunter and not sure if the bearing guides are mine or greg's, see if they're chamfered on the inside or just have vertical walls
00:51 rue_mohr just inside
00:51 Triffid_Hunter woah, and an original wade extruder, first thing you'll print is a gregstruder after using that ;)
00:51 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: yep those are mine then
00:51 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: also the bushings are mine
00:52 rue_mohr we wont talk about he god damned bushings
00:52 Triffid_Hunter they weren't printed well?
00:53 rue_mohr they had to be REALLY reworked to even gt close to fitting on the rod
00:53 rue_mohr but I think he was having intermittent scaling issues
00:53 rue_mohr the left side nut slot is REALLY oversized
00:53 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: ah that's sad.. they're usually slightly grippy straight off the bed for me
00:54 rue_mohr the left/right carrige, its only got 3 bushing holders, and its got accomidation for nuts/screws on the right side, I dont know what for
00:56 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: X carriage? that's a mount for a 40mm computer fan
00:57 rue_mohr ooooh
00:57 rue_mohr that would take a good peice off the x travel!
01:05 rue_mohr wow
01:05 rue_mohr a person could get lost on thingverse in the mendel mod parts
01:06 orlok heh, my girlfriend had the idea of printing cupcake stands or something
01:06 orlok so i searched for "cupcake"
01:06 orlok 6 pages in.. something actually related to edible cupcakes.
01:08 rue_mohr Triffid_Hunter, hmm have a link for the gregstruder, I want to see whats different
01:10 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:17030
01:11 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: use with http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10707 :)
01:15 rue_mohr is the idea to just increase the pinch forces on it?
01:22 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: you'll understand when you're calibrating with your hot-end
01:22 rue_mohr slip?
01:22 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: the original wade works fine, however to access the hot-end you need to undo the mounting bolts. to access the mounting bolts you need to remove the motor and idler. to remove the motor, you need to remove the gears. at this point you've disassembled the entire bloody thing and it's taken 20 minutes
01:22 rue_mohr http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:23555
01:23 rue_mohr THAT looks like the carrige I have!
01:23 rue_mohr hmm
01:23 Triffid_Hunter the holes in the gregstruder are carefully placed to allow access to the innermost motor screw. it has M4 nut traps so it can be attached and detached from beneath.
01:24 rue_mohr my carrige has 3 sets of extruder holes
01:24 rue_mohr or 4 holes for hte hot end and 2 for the feeder
01:25 rue_mohr http://www.thingiverse.com/image:137559 if thats not it, its damn close
01:26 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: the extra holes are so you can mount the extruder on an angle
01:26 Triffid_Hunter that stops the motor running into your Z threads at one extreme of the axis and gains you about 15-20mm of travel
01:26 rue_mohr why would I do that?
01:27 rue_mohr ah
01:27 rue_mohr cool
01:28 rue_mohr http://www.thingiverse.com/image:63232 I think greg got it wrong tho, there should be 2 bushings on the side he has 1 and 1 ont eh side he has 2
01:31 rue_mohr gnight!
01:31 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: yes he corrected that in his latest carriage
01:56 junowhat I;m trying to name my family name is SWToR, any suggestions? XD
08:12 katsmeow-afk fwiw, the 7903 and 7904 oscope can be pushed up to 1Ghz with some effort, the 7704 maybe,, the 7903/4 has an optional high brightness crt especially for this modification
08:13 katsmeow-afk modding it for a Ghz (the way Tektronix gives directions) makes it a single-trace unit tho, and renders the 2nd amplifier slot inactive
08:15 katsmeow-afk tho i don't see why it couldn't be used as a sweep trigger input, since the trigger slots still work
08:59 rue_mohr http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:15118
08:59 rue_mohr that one
08:59 Tom_itx did you get 7 fixed? or is it 6 now?
08:59 rue_mohr heh
09:00 rue_mohr it looks like the main culprit is removed
09:00 rue_mohr gonna install spybot and stuff this afternoon
09:00 rue_mohr read-only the hosts file,
09:00 rue_mohr sensible things
09:00 Tom_itx run the other one first
09:00 Tom_itx mbam
09:01 rue_mohr ...k
09:01 Tom_itx bye
10:43 katsmeow-afk it's hot utside already, every bit of clothes are soaked in sweat
10:45 katsmeow-afk this just in : Malwarebytes does not recommend full scans to search for malware. Our scan
10:45 katsmeow-afk engine is configured to find all the places malware loads in memory and
10:45 katsmeow-afk hides from conventional scanners in the default quick scan option.
11:19 sw0rdfish hmmmmmmmm
11:32 grummund Hi peeps
11:33 grummund Any of you robotics gurus ever played with PCI based stepper/servo controller cards?
11:37 katsmeow-afk rue operated a robot with the harddrive ide cable, if that counts
11:39 grummund is there anything that rue hasn't controlled via ide ? :P
11:41 chris_99 you mean he actually used the motherboard's IDE controller to control the robot?!
11:43 tsmeow-afk
11:44 chris_99 wow!
11:44 chris_99 that's awesome
11:44 chris_99 would love to see the code to do that
11:45 katsmeow-afk the PCI buss and IDE buss all originated with the old PC 8-16 bit buss of the 1980's, which was easy to access........ now if only we can gang up and make him tell us HOW TO DO IT
11:47 grummund PCI is really 90's onwards...
11:49 katsmeow-afk but it's basically the same buss
11:49 katsmeow-afk and to hear rue tell it, the ide is exactly the old buss
11:50 katsmeow-afk just faster
11:51 grummund well you can get PCI "motion controller" cards, with all the stepper/servo logic and interfacing on-board.
11:51 katsmeow-afk the ide buss is simple, but i dunno how to get to it
11:51 grummund but they are $$$
12:07 katsmeow-afk iirc, the old buss, and now the ide buss, was accessable with the cpu's PORT command, so it will take a lil machine coding, and knowing what PORT and the timing and device handshaking,, and how to do this in nix or winders, instead of dos
12:08 katsmeow-afk afk
15:25 ace4016 the japanese beat you by a foot rue: http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/30/kuratas-the-13-foot-mech/
16:03 katsmeow-afk man it's too hot outside
16:04 katsmeow-afk "COQPIT" ?
16:11 katsmeow-afk i expected more for $1.35 million
16:15 katsmeow-afk i am not going to go spend $1.35 million as easily as i buy a double cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato
16:28 ace4016 kats, yea; bit overpriced...you can tell the commentors that say 1.35mil is a decent price don't know jack shit about mechanical systems :P
20:06 rue_shop how do I run programs as admin in windows?
20:07 ace4016 right click and run as admin
20:07 ace4016 there's a key shortcut for it as well...but i don't remmeber it
20:09 Tom_itx rue_shop what i normally do on mine to make recovery easier is to have 2 users, one admin that doesn't get used then when the other one screws it all up you can usually get back in without getting clobbered
20:09 Tom_itx that may not help you this time but i'd create a new user when you're done
20:10 ace4016 heh, bascially introducing the super user concept to windows :P
20:11 Tom_itx it's saved alot of time
20:11 rue_shop I need to set the hosts file read-only, but the user cant do it
20:11 Tom_itx most bugs get into the user's stuff
20:12 ace4016 spybot S&D is nice for the host file...it's its immunization feature
20:12 rue_shop I just set it read-only, its NEVER used
21:10 rue_mohr just like I rename iexplore.exe to _iexplore.exe
21:12 rue_mohr "Where is my car?" "why you asking me? all I did was put it in drive and jump out, it went whereever the heck it wanted to"
22:04 rue_shop the motors are just too fast to make a wheeled robot from
22:32 rue_shop so I cant turn wheels with cheap little motors, but what I can do, is make linear actuators
22:32 katsmeow-afk wurm drives
22:34 rue_shop I dont know how I could make worm drive pullies for cheap/easy enough
22:34 rue_shop if you want ot try, you have a 3c budget
22:35 katsmeow-afk no, worm drive to move the pseudo-ackerman
22:35 katsmeow-afk altho real grease might be a problem where these are going
22:36 katsmeow-afk they might put animal fats on the lead screw
22:49 rue_mohr but I still cant drive go wheels
22:49 rue_mohr the mtoors are too fast
22:50 katsmeow-afk did anyone say the robot required wheels? how about a propellor?
22:51 rue_mohr no
22:51 rue_mohr it has to be abel to move and have sensors to interact wit its environment
22:51 rue_mohr I can afford the project 2 motors
22:52 katsmeow-afk propellor: that which propells, wheels and feet propel, ergo wheels and feet are propellors
22:52 rue_mohr I'm thinking of a walker like rifrafs
22:53 katsmeow-afk CD: a digital recording, ergo, a CD is a record
22:53 katsmeow-afk the walker needed lots of very low speed torque to lift the body
22:53 katsmeow-afk geared servos, not motors
22:56 katsmeow-afk geared servoes, not seared gervois
22:59 rue_mohr todays package is battery connectors!
22:59 rue_mohr motors with screws attached to the shaft driving nuts to mvoe the legs
23:17 katsmeow-afk Weatherholt, a 63-year-old airboat captain in the Florida Everglades, was giving a tour of the area to an Indiana family on June 12 when a 9-foot alligator suddenly sank its teeth into his wrist, severing his hand.
23:17 katsmeow-afk Six weeks later, Weatherholt faces a second-degree misdemeanor charge of feeding the alligator.
23:17 katsmeow-afk "It's a very sad situation for Mr. Weatherholt, and we wish this never happened to him, but there are laws on the books to protect people from this exact incident," said Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officer Jorge Pino.
23:18 katsmeow-afk FWC officers tracked down the alligator and euthanized it shortly after the attack, Pino said.
23:18 katsmeow-afk Weatherholt drove the boat back to its dock with one hand and was immediately taken to the hospital. His hand was found in the alligator's stomach but could not be reattached, Pino said.
23:40 rue_mohr hmm
23:40 katsmeow-afk i know that tune!
23:41 tsmeow-afk puts it in a bucket to carry it ar
