00:14 rue_mohr damn cats wont come in
00:51 katsmeow-afk furry, i didn't say it was a *great* movie
01:11 katsmeow-afk hires http://designerthinking.com/images/scorpion/DSCF2876.jpg ; DSCF2877.jpg ; DSCF2880.jpg
01:11 katsmeow-afk lowres http://designerthinking.com/images/scorpion/DSCF2876m.jpg ; DSCF2877m.jpg ; DSCF2880m.jpg
01:12 katsmeow-afk i cleaned it with some windex, it curled up in the oddest way, very unscorpion-like
01:56 katsmeow-afk Strategic operations of the 2,000 B-47s required 800 Boeing KC-97 Stratotankers.
03:03 R0b0t1 Has anyone seen a die design which utilized pips for more than 6 sides?
03:03 R0b0t1 I know that's completely random but yeah.
07:15 j947 Hello
07:16 Jon888 Anyone want to assist me in troubleshooting some electrical stuff?
07:19 rue_bed sure
07:19 Jon888 Trying to get rid of the buzzing on my headphones =| when I touch my PC case, it nearly goes away, when I touch the lamp on my desk, it gets worse.
07:19 rue_bed its a touch lamp and wireless headphones"?
07:20 Jon777 No, and no.
07:20 Jon777 It is however a metal lamp
07:20 Jon777 On a side note, I've ben wondering how touch lamps worked
07:20 Jon777 They're all on the same circiut breaker.
07:23 Jon777 I just checked, seems when ever I touch something out on outer side of the PSU (Cable from PSU, lamp, phone charger ) it gets worse
07:23 rue_bed hmmm
07:23 Jon777 When I touch the PSU case, it gets slightly better, when I touch the PC case, it nearly clears.
07:23 Jon777 I hope I dont have a junk PSU x_x
07:23 Jon777 I paid 170 dollars for that thing
07:24 Jon777 Which I ended up not buying the rest... but thats another story.
07:24 Jon777 Do you know how power draw works?
07:30 Jon777 No ideas?
08:14 rue_bed back in a bit
08:15 Jon777 Icey
08:16 Jon777 Seems plugging in another pair of head phones hlped some
08:16 Jon777 then I unplugged the mic from the same head set.
08:16 Jon777 and it pretty much went away.
08:17 Jon777 I dont know if its cuase they're 80 dollar head phones and are somehow removing the noise , or if the other ones are unshielded well and pickng up interferrence
08:17 Jon777 or what
08:49 rue_mohr ah you didn't say it had a mic
08:49 rue_mohr so if you plug it in, and mute the mic, the noise goes away?
08:50 rue_mohr it sounds like the mic line on them isn't well shielded
08:50 rue_mohr or do you have the mic plugged inot something other than the computer
08:50 rue_mohr Jon777, what kinda lamp is it, a compact flourescent or incadescent?
10:43 Jon777 incandescent
10:44 Jon777 it does it when I touch many things on the circuit, my cell charger, the power cord to the PC, just aobut anything really
10:44 Jon777 I unplugged the mic, I think the only "solution" would be to somehow shield/ground the line, aside from "not using it" , which is hardly a solution
10:46 Jon777 Why does it buzz when I plug the mic into the mic socket, but not when I plug the head phone jack or my spare cable into it?
10:47 katsmeow-afk is there any connection between the mic and the headphone wires in the headset?
10:47 Jon777 It is a head set
10:48 Jon777 And it does it when the mic is pluged in, weather or not the head phones are.
10:48 katsmeow-afk that tells me nothing and doesnot answer the question
10:48 Jon777 I pluged in a set of head phones, it still buzzed, I unpluged the mic, which is part of the headset. buzz was gone.
10:48 katsmeow-afk i am gonna assume the mic line is unbalanced, try a balun at the puter mic jack
10:48 Jon777 Try a what?
10:49 katsmeow-afk twelve
10:49 Jon777 I'm sorry, thats the best answer I know hoto give?
10:49 Jon777 12?
10:49 katsmeow-afk I'm sorry, thats the best answer I know hoto give
10:49 Jon777 I'm lost friend.
10:49 katsmeow-afk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balun
10:50 Jon777 You mean a short in the headset???
10:50 Jon777 possibly, I havent opened it .
10:50 katsmeow-afk sorry i got into this, not every electrical connection is a "short"
10:51 katsmeow-afk i guess you never heard of an ohm meter either
10:51 Jon777 You mean the mic line and the headset line, right?
10:51 tsmeow-afk goes back to break
10:51 Jon777 electrical crossing?
10:51 Jon777 Like plug wires
10:51 Jon777 in a car?
10:54 Jon777 Would it matter if there is still a buzz, while the headset's speakers are unpluged?
10:54 Jon777 and it still buzzes in the other set of head phones?
10:58 Jon777 interesting
10:59 Jon777 So if I wraped this cord around a metal doughnut will it absorb the interference? XD
10:59 Tom_itx running shielded wire on my cnc helped noise a bunch
10:59 Tom_itx i suggest you do that
11:00 Jon777 Computer numerical control?
11:01 Jon777 Thanks for the tips
11:03 Jon777 Now I understand what oyu mean by a balun on the jack
11:21 GuShH isn't the whole idea of a sample program to cut out the time it takes to obtain parts for development purposes? ie. cut the paper work, etc.
11:22 GuShH some companies do it the other way around, even for official sampling on real products that are being developed you gotta fill in more data than just ordering the stuff off any vendor.
11:22 GuShH what's the point?
11:22 ShH thinks hes got to thank the abusing assholes for t
11:32 katsmeow-afk next time you buy a headset (mic and phones), you might look for a low impeadance mic, they tend to pick up less noise, it's why pro audio is balanced and 600 ohm, while consumer stuff is 10,000 ohm and unbalanced
11:34 katsmeow-afk sometimes things do matter, sometimes they don't, and sometimes you can fit your foot into a shoe that's too small
11:35 theBear heh not me, my feet is huge :)
11:36 tsmeow-afk drys the bear's feets so they shrink a
11:36 ShH_ slaps the
11:36 eBear doesn't know what to
11:36 ShH_ unslaps the
11:37 theBear ahh better, you are very kind kitty and gush :)
11:37 theBear it's nice to feel looked after
11:37 katsmeow-afk me either, i wanna go do something, and i don't wanna go do something else
11:38 theBear heh
11:38 theBear welcome to my world
11:39 eBear empties the first bottle of wine into his g
11:39 katsmeow-afk the post office refuses to deliver soemthing to me (neighbor's dog issue again), so i haveto drive to town to get it (wasting an hour of my time and gas money), and the bank teller yeasterday asked me if i wanted her to let me out of the bank (she believed i could not get thru an unlocked door, even tho i came in thru one)
11:40 theBear it's not you, it's protocol, like asking if you want fries with that, or if you have enough credit cards today
11:40 GuShH_ I do want fries with -that-
11:41 katsmeow-afk no, she asked because of the wheelchair, i am automatically demoted to subhuman and incapable of anything
11:42 GuShH_ there it goes again
11:42 theBear mmm, some people do it out of respect or non-sad-kind-of-pity... others demote you mentally... i learned a lot hobbling around town on a stick...
11:43 katsmeow-afk "respect" means they allow me to manage my life and door opening
11:43 GuShH_ they are specifically trained so cripples won't sue them.
11:43 GuShH_ why do I bother, kats got me on ignore.
11:43 theBear i found it very interesting those honestly willing to help without judging, and the various others i bumped into... for example OLD people would open and hold doors for me with just a casual smile and not a sideways thought...
11:44 katsmeow-afk i need to sue the DA's office, and get no help, but assholes think i need assistance opening a door
11:44 theBear GuShH_, did you be mean to the kitty ? that ain't good
11:44 GuShH_ not sure I was mean.
11:44 katsmeow-afk bear, it is NOT helpful to take the door away from me
11:44 katsmeow-afk it is the OPPOSITE of helpful
11:44 theBear to be fair, i often did need help, those big heavy glass suckers at the casino for example, damn, used to take me a good several shuffle steps just to get between the door and the frame, then a few more so i had time to get out without losing my stick/arm
11:44 GuShH_ theBear: almost got in a fight with a security guard once because they wouldn't let a handicap person park on the handicap spot because he couldn't see the sticker on the windshield.
11:45 GuShH_ the coward called in his buddies so I couldn't do anything but leave.
11:45 theBear katsmeow-afk, maybe, but not ALL of them think like that.. i'm not against being bitter, i'm a bitter jaded old bear, but i have learned over the years that there are a few decent people out there, even if slightly misguided
11:45 GuShH_ at least the person managed to park there and thanked me for it.
11:45 GuShH_ the guards, for some reason, put shopping carts on the spots
11:45 katsmeow-afk but i had already prooven i could get thru the two doors into the bank lobby, they disregarded that truth in favor of the delusion that i needed assistance
11:45 GuShH_ they say so regular people won't park there...
11:46 theBear GuShH_, mmm, security guards aint exactly got a lot to do with their time, and ain't hired for brains
11:46 GuShH_ they spend all the time on the phone
11:46 GuShH_ I don't get it, why won't anyone say anything to them
11:46 GuShH_ they are as good as not being there.
11:46 katsmeow-afk i can open a door fast enough to bust people's knuckles when they are reaching for it, literally, i hear joints cracking whent he door hits them
11:46 GuShH_ I could literally walk to their side and wack their head with a pipe, they wouldn't see me coming because they are too busy texting each other.
11:47 katsmeow-afk i see the pain on their face, the way they favor then hand afterwards
11:47 GuShH_ also, most guards are unarmed.
11:47 GuShH_ all they can do is call the cops...
11:47 theBear katsmeow-afk, hehe, nice work
11:47 katsmeow-afk my arms are bigger than my calf muscles, i use them more
11:48 ShH_ doesn't think that's nice and kat shouldn't abuse her status because shes got a handicap, preferential rights are not g
11:48 GuShH_ everyone has to have equal rights.
11:48 katsmeow-afk i don't sit around being lazy and waiting for "help"
11:51 theBear hmmm.. this sucker hasn't had a hiccup since i found that obscure acpi option to fix that obscure chipset bug and it just hard-locked !
11:52 katsmeow-afk what?
11:52 theBear machine just locked up, had to rebootify him
11:52 GuShH_ theBear: when are the new processors with built in gpu coming out? or are they out already?
11:53 GuShH_ new socket and all
11:53 theBear the what with the who ? i was talking to someone earlier who said they had a radeon and cpu in the same package in some new work laptop from memory
11:53 theBear but i wouldn't know, i lost track around p4 ht/barton era
11:53 GuShH_ might get one from AMD when I can...
11:53 GuShH_ right when I thought AM2 or 3 was the latest thing?
11:53 ShH_ s
11:53 theBear who knows
11:54 katsmeow-afk i lost track over 10 yrs ago, all these puters are older than 10 yrs, and were affordable
11:54 theBear yeah, i think it was about 10 years for me... xp and p4-ht sound familiar ?
11:54 theBear erg, it's weird talking to 1 and a half people
11:54 katsmeow-afk if they weren't affordable, i'd just not buy them, ia m that picky
11:54 GuShH_ that's what happens when you ignore people
11:55 GuShH_ I only have one person on ignore but that person isn't here.
11:55 theBear i think the only procs i EVER bought new were durons and athlons, oh a handful in the pre pentium era too... but damn, 1ghz+ for under $100 ! can't go wrong
11:56 GuShH_ I'm still on an athlon
11:56 GuShH_ kinda need a new system since the gpu I had died and this slot is dead so... it costs more than buying everything new.
11:57 theBear if i ever get this board fixed/capped i'll have 2 athlons in daily use again
11:57 katsmeow-afk i was doing mobo, box, cpu, ram, one hd, 2.4Ghz minimum, winxp sticker, under $100, or i didn't buy
11:57 GuShH_ lost one of my systems during the moving process.
11:57 theBear heck, even if i don't i got these 2 older boards here that can take the chip
11:57 GuShH_ either got stolen or... I don't know, it's in some box somewhere I haven't found yet
11:57 GuShH_ :( means I don't have a scanner anymore too since the interface card was on that system
11:58 GuShH_ I packed it all so nicely but I didn't think it could get STOLEN.
11:58 theBear 99% of ALL my MANY MANY machines over the years have been donated or more often found on the curb or up an alley.... nice matching set of 3 compaq deskpro compact p2 thingers i found all within 2 blocks of each other over about a year, used to be my little redundant serverey cluster
11:58 GuShH_ well this one I build off trash parts.
11:58 GuShH_ built*
11:58 GuShH_ good enough for general browsing.
11:58 GuShH_ anyway for dev purposes I need to upgrade, there's no going around it
11:58 theBear i'm quite sure one of my systems (my favourite old desktop) was purposefully taken off the pile in the 12 hours between me getting a plane and the truck arriving, about 4 years back
11:59 GuShH_ I got my scope and other valuables stored at a friend's apartment
11:59 GuShH_ while the rest of the stuff was put on a massive truck
11:59 theBear it was awesome ! 3/4 or so atx case, lots of rubber and foam in select places to dull all noise and vibration, sexy little temp sensor/fan speed thinger in one drive bay, my lovely old radeon dualhead etcetc :(
11:59 GuShH_ but he didn't have space for more boxes so I left the older systems to be moved by the company, not me.
12:00 GuShH_ half the furniture got trashed, they told me to call the owner and they would send a carpenter to fix it (????) pure bullshit.
12:00 katsmeow-afk stolen?
12:01 GuShH_ You know what though I got an ace up my sleeve, one of the workers lost his key during the process... house key, car key.
12:01 GuShH_ found it, if I were 1% more evil I could score a free car.
12:01 theBear katsmeow-afk, more like sabotaged, asshole i used to work for/with...
12:01 GuShH_ the keychain even has the alarm remote
12:01 katsmeow-afk i should goto the postaweful, before it rains and i haveto wait till Monday to go get it
12:01 theBear GuShH_, 3/4% more evil you could sell a free kee
12:01 theBear key
12:01 theBear i should DO SOMETHING before i'm too drunk :)
12:01 katsmeow-afk bbl
12:02 GuShH_ hmmm... I may just call him and have him come and pick it up
12:02 GuShH_ theBear: it would be very obvious if I were to take the car.
12:02 GuShH_ specially if I brought it -here-
12:03 theBear i packed my stuff VERY safely for that move... got a super cheap 'backload' pickup, literally lived across the fence from the main container yard AND the international/domestic airport, had a huge truck size rollerdoor, and a good customer/friend who worked in the container yard in some office
12:03 theBear GuShH_, that's why you sell the key to an interested party
12:03 GuShH_ and if we're going to analyze this further, chances are he had a new alarm installed due to the lack of the remote, unless he had a spare and didn't care for it.
12:03 theBear if yer 3/4% evil
12:03 GuShH_ heh
12:03 theBear mmmm, most likely he didn't, but once again a reason to avoid that kind of thing yourself
12:04 ShH_ doesn't have the lack of morals or lack of brains to attemp
12:04 GuShH_ theBear: say, would you like a car key?
12:04 theBear heh, nah, i already got one
12:05 GuShH_ but you could own one overseas!
12:05 theBear and a random hiace key that noone can work out where to stick
12:05 GuShH_ like the big shots!
12:05 theBear lol, international man of mystery
12:05 theBear "oh, that's just for my secret offshore car .... it's a tax thing"
12:05 GuShH_ :p
12:06 theBear erg, it's time, i'm gonna do SOEMTHING usefull.. bbl
12:06 GuShH_ Hmm I love o-rings, I just fixed a bike pump with a bunch of them. The original rubber thingy had dried and broken off long ago.
12:06 GuShH_ so I stacked 4 o-rings and 2 smaller ones in there.
12:07 GuShH_ put the cap back on, and it works!
12:07 GuShH_ it's a specific pump for that particular bicycle so it's not like I could get a new one anyway
12:07 GuShH_ fits right on the frame.
12:08 GuShH_ now I just need to figure out how to fix the colour on the plastic, it turned into a brownish green, instead of the original cyan - green
12:08 GuShH_ well it's turquoise, or bianchi green...
12:08 elektrinis men dont know so many colors
12:08 GuShH_ I've no idea how their frames are assembled, there are no visible welds.
12:08 elektrinis so I guess youre a girl
12:09 GuShH_ elektrinis: lol, or a graphics artist?
12:09 GuShH_ heres an example http://www.smartcycles.com/images/wpe96.gif
12:09 GuShH_ what kind of process is that?
12:09 elektrinis I dont see a process
12:09 GuShH_ frames are often aluminum or some exotic metal, depending on how deep your wallet is.
12:09 GuShH_ elektrinis: the process by which the parts are welded together
12:09 elektrinis dunno
12:09 GuShH_ friction weld perhaps?
12:10 ShH_ s
12:10 elektrinis glue? :)
12:10 elektrinis cars are all holding up on glue these days..
12:10 GuShH_ google suggests the colour is called "Tiffany blue" but that's a trademark
12:10 GuShH_ yeah...
12:11 GuShH_ this is a 30 year old bike though and I think they weld these things.
12:11 DagoRed Only for certain sports cars does glue work instead of welds.
12:12 GuShH_ meh
12:13 theBear i AINT gonna get dragged in, but what brand is it ? and steel i assume ?
12:13 eBear knows pushb
12:13 GuShH_ turquoise caicos, wtf.
12:13 GuShH_ I just said, Bianchi.
12:14 GuShH_ could get you the exact model in 2 minutes.
12:15 theBear meh, my eyes are drunk.... 20 y.old bianchi, chances are just very fine welds with as much angle/edge on the end of tubes as possible, and carefully ground back.. unless it's got those collar things on the joins, tbh i can't remember how they 'do them up' but you never notice the welds
12:15 theBear and if i have ANY willpower, i'll be gone in a minute
12:17 GuShH_ Rekord-748, carbon steel frame
12:17 theBear rekord eh ? dunno that one, but i tended to follow mountain bikes more back then.. carbon steel is interesting, can't be much or it'd be a huge spring, unless i've got my steel alloys mixed up
12:18 GuShH_ it's very lightweight actually
12:20 theBear yeah, steel frames in those days were pretty much at their peak... nice and thin, only strength where needed, often double-butted internally... not that i strongly recommend it, but chances are if you lean it over holding the bars or seat and gently apply foot-pressure around the cranks, it'll be surprisngly soft and bendy, on that plane
12:20 GuShH_ wouldn't want to try that!
12:21 GuShH_ needs a new set of tubes most likely, and new handle grips... but other than that it's in perfect condition
12:22 theBear mmm, my 'everyday' bike, at least until last year, is a '94 frame, ally, and 99% parts from the following two years, apart from some leaky shocks (probly need some random orings :) and a few near-broken frayed cables, it's still like new
12:24 theBear dammit, got sucked in... to the other room !
12:24 codepython777 I'm looking to buy NAO. Are there other such robots for learning purposes that one can recommend?
16:22 katsmeow-afk took two trips to the post office to get the packages they refuse to deliver to me
16:37 FreezingCold katsmeow-afk: what was in the packages?
16:41 katsmeow-afk chips
16:54 GuShH_ always the victim
17:02 FreezingCold katsmeow-afk: what did they say..?
17:02 Tom_itx anybody know a good source for bicycle shifer assembly drawings?
18:08 tsmeow-afk assumes $4.75 is a good deal for 1000ft of RG
18:48 rue_mohr I had a whole day of working on equipment that the installers didn't know how to configure
19:05 rue_mohr oh oh oh whats today ebay item...
19:06 rue_mohr yaaaay!AG13 batteries for my calipers!
20:21 tsmeow-afk assumes $4.75 is a good deal for 1000ft of RG
20:24 tsmeow-afk assumes $4.75 is a good deal for 1000 ft of RG
20:25 ace4016 i'd assume so as well
20:25 katsmeow-afk k
20:29 katsmeow-afk someone had also tossed out ~200ft of 4ft hog wire, but prolly because they discovered it's useless against mexican rat dogs
20:30 katsmeow-afk i tried to give away ~300 ft of it the other day, no one wants field fencing
20:31 katsmeow-afk in the 4ft tall fence, it's the best thing for keeping medium dogs, pigs, cows, horse, goats, and all their babies, but not rat dogs, or those super tall rat dogs that look like mini-dobermans
20:38 Triffid_Hunter rue_mohr: those look like scavenged motors, good luck with them :)
20:38 Triffid_Hunter sorry for extended absence, moving house has that effect
20:40 katsmeow-afk hmm:

22:42 rue_shop its broken into days
22:43 j025 Must of ben a quiet day
22:43 jon777 There a log from yesterday/earlier today I can read? my system froze and I missed a lot XD
22:43 rue_shop !thislog
22:43 tobbor This one: http://rueshouse.dyndns.org:82/~ircjunk/irclogs/html/%23robotics-2012-07-28.html
22:44 rue_shop http://www.maxim-ic.com/app-notes/index.mvp/id/69
22:44 rue_shop ther eis that, but I'm sure I found a bipolar version, which was really hard
22:44 rue_shop I cant find hte peice of paper
22:45 jon777 What about mole rats??
22:46 jon777 Must be the cousins of "rat dogs"
22:46 rue_shop somewhere I have a circuit for a bipolar current sense amp
22:46 rue_shop high side
22:46 rue_shop I want it now
22:48 rue_shop oh
22:49 rue_shop #robotics-2012-02-14.html
22:49 rue_shop http://rueshouse.dyndns.org:82/~ircjunk/irclogs/html/%23robotics-2012-02-14.html
22:49 rue_shop damjit show me the schematic rue
22:51 jon777 Someone mentioned a balun for what seems to be an unshielded or poorly grounded mic line?
22:51 jon777 Am I understanding this right?
22:51 rue_shop jon777, there you are
22:51 rue_shop jon if you unplug the mic, the noise goes away?
22:51 jon777 ya, I was a little underslept last time i was here , and hello rue
22:51 jon777 Yes.
22:51 jon777 at least 98 % of it
22:51 jon777 or so
22:52 rue_shop ok its not shielded right
22:52 jon777 How would I find out , without cutting the cable?
22:52 jon777 Let me look up the specs on google
22:52 rue_shop wrap it in grounded tinfoil
22:53 rue_shop damnit where is that schematic
22:53 rue_shop FOUND IT!
22:54 jon777 Well its inexpensive, and I don't see any mention of shielding, so I'm going to guess its unshielded
22:54 jon777 I've also got an extended cord, but its pluged int othe headphone line, would that make a difference as its eemst obe the mic line?
22:54 jon777 as it seems to be^
22:56 jon777 http://www.sentryindustries.com/category/headphones/headphones_hmm10.asp Here's the company's product page
22:57 jon777 The problem seems to come and go however. over inconsistent periods of time.
22:57 jon777 At one point, I thought it was my alarm clock, when I unplugged it, the buzz went away... and when I plugedi t back in, 2 mins later it was back
22:58 jon777 I unplugged it the clock.... but it came back anyway
22:58 rue_shop cover it in tinfoil and ground the tinfoil to your computer case
22:59 rue_shop see if the hum goes away
23:00 jon777 How would I ground the foil?
23:00 jon777 O to the case
23:01 jon777 I have to wonderi f the case is grounded well, when I touch the case, the sound nearly clears up
23:02 jon777 I move this cord around a lot, tin foil prob wouldnt last too long =|
23:04 jon777 What aabout a balun plug?
23:09 katsmeow-afk can you make a patch cord to go tween the puter and the mic cord of the headset?
23:11 rue_shop jon777, just test it with the foil
23:12 tsmeow-afk wraps rue in foil to see if he bu
23:13 e_shop uses induction to melt the foil
23:13 jon777 I see
23:14 rue_shop katsmeow-afk, gnd to +v limit for a tl071 is 36V?
23:14 tsmeow-afk asks T
23:14 rue_shop or is that well into the magic smoke region
23:14 katsmeow-afk TL071= [!what][!electronics][!device] Type:linear ; Function:Low-noise JFET-input Operational Amplifier ; OEM:Texas Instruments ; Case:8-pin DIP
23:15 katsmeow-afk i'd stay down at +/- 15
23:15 katsmeow-afk 30v
23:15 katsmeow-afk i think it leaks smoke at 36
23:15 rue_shop ok so 24V is totally cool
23:15 katsmeow-afk 24 is fine
23:16 katsmeow-afk VCC Supply voltage - note 1)
23:16 katsmeow-afk 1. All voltage values, except differential voltage, are with respect to the zero reference level (ground) of the supply voltages where the zero reference
23:16 katsmeow-afk level is the midpoint between VCC
23:16 katsmeow-afk + and VCC
23:16 katsmeow-afk -.
23:16 katsmeow-afk ±18 V
23:16 katsmeow-afk Vi Input Voltage - note 2)
23:16 katsmeow-afk 2. The magnitude of the input voltage must never exceed the magnitude of the supply voltage or 15 volts, whichever is less.
23:16 katsmeow-afk ±15 V
23:16 katsmeow-afk well that suckes
23:17 katsmeow-afk vss-vcc max is 36, inputs are only 30v tho , inputs cannot exceed vcc or vss
23:18 katsmeow-afk that's a pretty fast chip compared to what you usually do, whacha building?
23:22 rue_shop I'm trying to current regulate a 12V stepper motor off 24V
23:22 rue_shop its only 200mA
23:22 rue_shop I wonder if i can use an SMPS current mode chip
23:22 rue_shop the op-amp will take a bunch of work
23:23 rue_shop thoughts?
23:23 jon777 Isnt input from the supply????
23:24 rue_shop jon777, hu?
23:24 jon777 I was refering to katsmewos words about input V not exceeding supply V
23:24 rue_shop whats the part number of that current mode smps chip
23:24 jon777 I'm unfamiliar with it
23:24 katsmeow-afk a stepper doesn't require great regulation, you can use almost anything to do that
23:24 rue_shop ah, op-amps are evil
23:25 katsmeow-afk jon , signal input
23:25 rue_shop I dont want to use linear
23:26 rue_shop 3842
23:26 katsmeow-afk strangely, you can use linear, just give it positive feedback so itoscillates, and you have a pwm variable freq smps
23:26 jon777 Hey that orthodox cross is supposed to mean +/- right?
23:27 katsmeow-afk orthodox cross?
23:27 rue_shop the the double upper closses
23:27 rue_shop crosses
23:27 katsmeow-afk umm, no?
23:28 jon777 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/ff/Russian_Orthodox_cross_1.gif looks kinda like this
23:28 katsmeow-afk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthodox_cross
23:28 rue_shop t < -
23:28 katsmeow-afk i have never seen a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Russian_Golgotha_cross.png on any schematic
23:28 jon777 WHen you were talking about voltages
23:29 jon777 You should make it, it has a skull and cross bones, that'd just be epic XD
23:29 rue_shop its gonna be easier to use the big fancy current mode controller chip thats made for steppers
23:29 jon777 And ancient roman/hebrew letters
23:30 katsmeow-afk rue, you can do it with a 555, or a 556, or a 74LS123 , or 74LS221, or etc
23:30 jon777 Anyone ever ben tempted to build a mobile suit? XD
23:30 rue_shop yes
23:31 rue_shop the SLA7024 has it all built in
23:31 rue_shop its abig ugly chip tho
23:32 jon777 http://circuits.datasheetdir.com/391/SLA7024M-pinout.jpg
23:32 rue_shop I could just run these off 12V
23:33 jon777 What are you making/modding?
23:33 rue_shop reprap
23:33 jon777 rep... rap?
23:35 rue_shop http://www.reprap.org/wiki/Prusa_Mendel
23:36 jon777 Ah cool!
23:37 rue_shop getting the motor driver section out of this board is going to be noisy, I have to cut thru 2 chips and 3 connectors
23:37 jon777 v.v
23:38 jon777 cut through chips
23:38 jon777 Sounds tricky
23:38 e_shop puts on his earmuffs and slowly feeds circuit board 007 into the laser cu
23:39 jon777 Dont miss and cut a circuit! XD
23:40 jon777 Or twelve
23:41 rue_shop ok this is the bit of the pcb with the 3 stepper drivers, now I just need to remove the excessive components
23:44 katsmeow-afk <blink>
23:45 e_shop changes his
23:45 rue_shop whats an MP4303
23:45 rue_shop katsmeow-afk, no need to etch if you dont need to right?
23:46 rue_shop just a 2A transistor array
23:47 katsmeow-afk you can deadbug it
23:47 rue_shop na
23:47 katsmeow-afk do a stripline sytem
23:47 katsmeow-afk perfbd and wirewrap wire
23:50 rue_shop LM393 must be a dual comparitoe
23:50 rue_shop r
23:50 katsmeow-afk itis a dual comparatoer
23:51 katsmeow-afk some day i need to put a set of guages on this puter, it's somewhat scarey when i give i a big job, the fan slows down as the cpu use goes up
23:52 rue_shop they use, on another board, a circuit of interest, a MP4303 quad driver, 2 pnp power transistors, 2 signal transistors, a lm393 and some resistors to make a regulated stepper driver
23:52 katsmeow-afk you can do that
23:54 katsmeow-afk tis easy to (A) make a comparator see max winding current, then shut the power off, wait a few usec, turn power back on, goto (A)
23:55 katsmeow-afk with an avr or scope or dvm or tach, adjust the off time to allow max motor horsepower even tho the comparator keeps shutting it off
23:55 katsmeow-afk it's that simple
23:55 rue_shop recently I made a stepper driver from a uln2006
23:56 rue_shop its got all the inverters and stuff in it
23:57 katsmeow-afk another way to make it automagically ajust the off time is to sense the inductive kickback of the winding when the power is shut off, the end of that kickback is prolly the shortest off time you can have
23:57 rue_shop I think its not helping to know so many ways I can do this
23:58 katsmeow-afk i did a dc PM motor rpm governor by shutting off power, waiting till after the longest kickback, then reading the "generator" backfeed off the motor
23:59 rue_shop found them
23:59 rue_shop never understood how to seperate the kick from the coast
