00:00 katsmeow-afk plus, it had to concentrate on the wire when approaching it, instead of looking at them
00:01 katsmeow-afk stupid bird
00:01 katsmeow-afk i was like ,, well, if that's what it wants to do .....
00:04 rue_shop some people are like that
00:04 Tom_itx dammit
00:04 Tom_itx the reverse logic is causing fits again
00:04 Tom_itx i suppose a pullup would fix it
00:05 Tom_itx then when it triggers it will pull it low
00:05 katsmeow-afk there is a trick for things like that
00:05 rue_shop Tom_itx, use a 7406
00:06 rue_shop katsmeow-afk, w98 registry cleaner?
00:06 katsmeow-afk break the gnd to the transistor, insert 330r, connect transistor output thru 100r to vcc, now when it sees light, it will pull the 330r *up*
00:06 rue_shop its logic output tho
00:07 rue_shop well, maybe open collector
00:07 rue_shop in which case you would want a 10k pullup
00:07 katsmeow-afk you know it's current rating?
00:07 Tom_itx rue_shop i think it is open collector
00:07 tsmeow-afk deltes all she
00:07 Tom_itx but i'm not sure of the input logic yet either
00:07 Tom_itx it's an 'encoder' input
00:07 Tom_itx software configurable
00:07 katsmeow-afk [23:21] <katsmeow-afk> rue, i have nothing for win98, i never put that trash on my puter, i went dos-win3.1-win95B-winxpee
00:07 katsmeow-afk [23:22] <katsmeow-afk> if you are running win98, i STRONGLY suggest you lose it, because the fdisk-format situation was never fixed
00:07 Tom_itx and that may not be set right yet either. i think it is but...
00:08 Tom_itx rue_shop3 what win98 do you need?
00:09 katsmeow-afk fdisk and format will report success, and still begine transparently wrapping harddrive addresses at any time, overwriting data
00:09 katsmeow-afk there's 3 versions of each at least, they never were compatable or fixed
00:10 Tom_itx he has a disk i gave him but he forgot about it

00:22 katsmeow-afk yummy
00:23 katsmeow-afk i have no samosa ingredients in my roof garden
00:23 katsmeow-afk i wanted to put in lima beans, or butter beans, but it hink it's too late
00:23 furrywolf I wish I had more money... I can't afford to go out to eat any more often than a rare treat.
00:23 katsmeow-afk potatoes are out, i think, thr oof being so hot
00:24 katsmeow-afk people down the street put up fence to keep dogs off their chickens, another stopped farmng them when dogs killed them all
00:25 katsmeow-afk i have been fencing the last two days because anotehr neighbor is turning small dogs loose that go right thru the hogwire, which is what i put up to control the big dogs
00:26 katsmeow-afk i had a bean plant 6 inch tall on the roof, something ate it down last nite
00:27 furrywolf I've lost a LOT to slugs this year.
00:29 katsmeow-afk Canada is the largest export producer of lentils in the world <<== but it's so cold?!
00:29 katsmeow-afk Saskatchewan is the most important producing region in Canada.
00:30 katsmeow-afk i wonder if rue's mom sells plants on ebay

02:23 rue_shop a whole tube of silicone sealant froze up on me
02:23 rue_shop :/
02:41 ace4016 o.0
02:41 ace4016 i thought it was summer
03:01 rue_mohr no, solidified
03:01 rue_mohr whole tube
03:02 rue_mohr one big silicone blob
03:02 rue_mohr my reprap is comming along nicely, I think
03:03 rue_mohr the idea was to hand off assembly to my buddy, but it seems you need a whole shop to modify the peices to build it
03:04 rue_mohr some of the design flaws I just cant go with, this first one is supposed to be 'by the book'
03:05 rue_mohr I'm trying to download knoppix again to try to get my system fixed
03:06 rue_mohr I stuck the print plate to the carrige with silicone-topped bolts, so I have to wait for it to set
03:06 rue_mohr its RTV, iirc it might take a while to set up
03:28 rue_mohr ok I hope this works
03:56 rue_shop didn't work
04:16 seravitae im gonna build some sort of cnc thing soon
04:19 seravitae timing belt driven
04:21 seravitae very small, low load. something like a flatbed scanner or printer. wondering if anyone knows where bearing blocks and rods for that kind of mini size can be found..
04:29 seravitae or maybe a belt drive is cheaper/more suitable
04:53 sw0rdfish Hey.
05:19 theBear rue_shop, err, what encoder question ?
05:19 theBear and personally if i want those kinda bearings and blocks and bits and pieces, i walk a few blocks till i find a thrown out scanner or printer on the curb
06:26 hackkitten :o
06:57 fenn theBear: still alive? heard you died in a car crash: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owsley_Stanley
06:59 nn wonders what time it is in austr
07:02 theBear heh, lucky bastard hung around kesey
07:02 theBear it's sunday evening
07:02 theBear and nah, i walked away from my car crash
07:39 seravitae fenn: its 10:30pm here in eastern australia
08:59 Tom_itx rue_shop did you get a bad kit?
09:01 Tom_itx theBear, the walking dead?
11:47 rue_mohr no luck with the machine yet
11:47 rue_mohr x is being annoying
11:47 rue_mohr says it cant find screens, there right here, two of them, plain as day
11:51 atom1 ok i got rpm displaying on the screen but it's scaled wrong
11:51 atom1 'spedometer' style
14:06 rue_house ok
14:06 rue_house now I just need to get my desktop image back, my window manager back and migrate my databases
21:00 katsmeow-afk rue, here's wht you need for your phone system : $30 ADTRAN TOTAL ACCESS 750 T1/TDM GATEWAY/RECEIVER
22:35 GargantuaSauce i am displeased with the fact that i only thought to join this channel now
22:37 GargantuaSauce so I am in the design and spending all my money stage of building an 18-dof hexapod robot using hobby servos and am wondering about position feedback
22:38 GargantuaSauce would rotary encoders like http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ALPS/EC10E1220503/ be sensible or are there more precise ones that aren't much more expensive that I am missing in my googles
22:39 katsmeow-afk the rk09 ? very very low resolution
22:39 orlok GargantuaSauce: have you looked at openservo?
22:40 katsmeow-afk the rdc maybe , if you can physically get it to work on the axles
22:41 orlok GargantuaSauce: this is where hobby servos get crap.. they have a built in encoder, but you have no way to access it
22:41 GargantuaSauce I'd be using openservo if it didn't >double the cost of my servos
22:41 katsmeow-afk most humans use stepeprs, needing no positon feedback, are you using servoes?
22:41 katsmeow-afk ah
22:42 GargantuaSauce i am using cheapo towerpro ones
22:43 katsmeow-afk well, hmm
22:43 GargantuaSauce and pots like that aren't really an option if they have a shaft...trying to keep the legs from getting too wide
22:43 GargantuaSauce going to be 3d printing the parts though so i have flexibility as far as the mechanical design goes
22:43 katsmeow-afk zhanx built a spider, but he is afk atm, rue knows what's availlabe in Canadia and he is also afk
22:44 orlok GargantuaSauce: i have seen people mount the servo pot outside of the housing with good results, but still does not give you feedback
22:44 katsmeow-afk wide? use fat hollow axles, put things inside them
22:44 orlok GargantuaSauce: it does give you some compensation for slackness/slop in your conenctors
22:45 orlok GargantuaSauce: so instead of the servo feedback loop/positioning being based on the servo horn, it works based on the leg position
22:46 orlok GargantuaSauce: so say, if weight is added causing a small amount of flex, it automatically adjusts for it
22:46 GargantuaSauce yeah that is what I am referring to, not closed-loop servo control so much as a higher level feedback to the motion control in the mcu
22:48 orlok GargantuaSauce: yeah, thats the point where you start thinking "WHy am i using these hobby servos again?"
22:48 GargantuaSauce cost :P
22:48 GargantuaSauce much nicer to spend $180 than 2-3 times that
22:48 orlok i found servos with any decent torque specs were prohibitivly expensive
22:49 orlok hmm reminds me.. i need to try builting a small needle based "rangefinder"
22:50 orlok as in, move a needle out till it hits something, record distance
22:50 orlok should be easy enough
22:50 GargantuaSauce these ones are (allegedly) 10 kgcm
22:52 orlok extend that out to your leg length..
22:52 GargantuaSauce yup
22:52 GargantuaSauce going to be tight
22:54 katsmeow-afk also going to be big and hard on batteries
22:56 katsmeow-afk ...
22:57 GargantuaSauce that it is...probably about 15 minutes of run time according to my napkin math with the li-po batteries I've got
22:58 GargantuaSauce i'll mostly be running it tethered; all I reaaally want to do with it is gain experience writing its control system
22:58 katsmeow-afk that's enough time to go fetch more firewood, i spose
22:59 GargantuaSauce i am a CS guy, mostly breaking into robotics so i am writing code that does stuff more significant than flipping some bits somewhere
23:00 katsmeow-afk tobbor, what is rue's webpage on robots?

23:04 katsmeow-afk why?
23:05 GargantuaSauce was trying to trace the circuit <_<
23:05 katsmeow-afk lol
23:05 DagoRed Off topic but funny. http://www.skepticmoney.com/fox-news-banned-from-canada-law-forbids-lying-on-broadcast-news/
23:07 katsmeow-afk it's 404 , but seen it before
23:07 DagoRed it's not a 404 for me.
23:07 katsmeow-afk kool
23:08 GargantuaSauce now if only conservative lies were forbidden too ;_;
23:08 DagoRed Kat.... I blame your regional ISP
23:09 orlok GargantuaSauce: also, inkjet printers
23:09 DagoRed How's it goin orlok?
23:09 orlok tired
23:09 orlok so so tired
23:09 DagoRed How's the kid?
23:10 orlok though all worth it
23:10 orlok my creation stodd up today
23:10 orlok all by herself!
23:10 DagoRed congrats!
23:10 orlok she is awesome
23:10 DagoRed I'm glad to hear it.
23:11 DagoRed Enjoy her now while you can.
23:11 Tom_itx yeah pretty soon she'll be asking for the car keys
23:11 DagoRed Before that, asking for money to go the mall and blow it on worthless stuff.
23:11 katsmeow-afk in 15 yrs? what's a "car" ?
23:12 DagoRed kat may have a point.
23:12 Tom_itx katsmeow-afk they're aussies. it'll take years...

23:14 orlok we intend that she learn to drive in the torana
23:14 orlok which will be 55 or so years old by that stage
23:16 DagoRed Bigger question, will there be enough petrol?
23:17 katsmeow-afk synthetics, maybe, if there's enough food to make it out of
23:17 DagoRed Not this year, that's for sure. The droughts are going to kill corn prices.
23:18 DagoRed expected price is $9 bushel
23:18 katsmeow-afk yep, i expect 2x prices on some stuff next year, if that is a good year for farmers
23:18 DagoRed naturally.
23:18 DagoRed I feel bad. Because of the warm winter they planted early .
23:19 katsmeow-afk planting later wol dnot have helped
23:19 katsmeow-afk this country having zero infrastructure to deal with a known recurring disaster does piss me off tho
23:19 DagoRed true, but they did have their hopes up.
23:20 tsmeow-afk makes a hope sammich out of thin
23:20 DagoRed And the additional resources with the crops in the ground means that pesticide costs were hi.
23:20 DagoRed *high
23:20 DagoRed I'm just hoping they don't see floods after this.
23:21 katsmeow-afk meat will go up too, any ethanol corn in storage, isn't feed or human varieties
23:21 DagoRed *nods*
23:21 DagoRed Genetically altered so it's unfit for both human and animal consumption.
23:21 katsmeow-afk we might be scaring Tom, as if he can't see it happen as he drives to work
23:22 DagoRed Scaring Tom how?
23:22 DagoRed Does he farm?
23:22 DagoRed I know he's in the area for it.
23:22 katsmeow-afk no, but there's nothing growing there
23:22 DagoRed ahh
23:23 DagoRed just what our economy needs, huge food costs.
23:24 e4016 gets started on his garden to avoid all this c
23:25 tsmeow-afk wants to raise her voice at those who could be building irrigation infrastructure for farmers, just like was done to Californica in the decades ago,, and instead they build $trillions in fighter
23:27 rue_house god news
23:27 rue_house good even
23:27 rue_house I can post pics of my reprap
23:27 DagoRed yay!
23:27 orlok fox news banned from canadia?
23:28 DagoRed orlok, funny isn't it?
23:28 rue_house did they report on one of the protests or soemth8ing?
23:29 DagoRed No clue
23:29 orlok rue_house: nah, apparently theres a law against the news lying there
23:30 rue_house oh, so we dont get any news anymore?
23:30 katsmeow-afk and you can tell when Fox News is lying because 1) there is audio or 2) their mouths move
23:30 rue_house or, who is determining whats a lie, us government or harper?
23:31 orlok got pics of the reprap?
23:32 GargantuaSauce presumably the crtc
23:32 rue_house oh yea

23:48 rue_house thats the easy part? yea...
23:48 GargantuaSauce my mendel kit is coming tuesday
23:48 rue_house did you get a complete kit or a plastics kit?
23:48 GargantuaSauce complete
23:48 rue_house good
23:48 orlok Whats the quality of the printout like?
23:48 GargantuaSauce I am beside myself with excitement
23:49 rue_house I got a plastics kit and the design variations are amazing, this kit does NOT work out of the box
23:49 rue_house orlok, .3mm layers, iirc, with .5 (?) mm extrusion
23:49 rue_house GargantuaSauce, how much was the complete kit?
23:50 rue_house w/ motors etc?
23:50 GargantuaSauce $770 shipped
23:50 GargantuaSauce from reprappro
23:50 rue_house sounds about right
23:50 rue_house I am shaving cost off mine hundreds of dollars at a time
23:50 rue_house but its challanging me
23:51 rue_house there are a lot of design... shortcommings
23:51 GargantuaSauce yeah, found a couple of slightly-cheaper suppliers but figured I may as well give my money to the team that made the system in the first place
23:52 rue_house 3mm filament or finer?
23:52 rue_house did it come with filament?
23:52 GargantuaSauce 1.75
23:52 GargantuaSauce yep
23:52 rue_house hmm
23:53 rue_house if I understand right, yours dosn't use threaded rod?
23:53 GargantuaSauce does for the z
23:53 GargantuaSauce x and y are belts
23:53 rue_house I meant frame
23:54 GargantuaSauce yes it does
23:54 rue_house that isn't filament in mine, its weedeater line :)
23:55 rue_house I'm going 3mm to prevent 'buckling'
23:55 GargantuaSauce is that pvc?
23:55 rue_house the feeder head would be a challange, there isn't much room to grab
23:56 GargantuaSauce http://www.ask.com/answers/144854501/can-you-substitute-the-plastic-line-in-a-weed-eater-with-1-16-aviation-cable i googled the material and got this
23:56 rgantuaSauce cri
23:56 rue_house no
23:56 rue_house is has fiber in it, which makes it not ...extrude
23:57 rue_house its also got interesting water characteristics, most weedeater line disintegrates with water
23:58 GargantuaSauce oh is it nylon?
23:58 rue_house didn't check that part
23:59 orlok rue_house: somebody said it gave off toxic fumes?
23:59 rue_house what dosn't?
23:59 GargantuaSauce PLA :)
