#robotics Calendar

00:00 furrywolf my sleep schedule seems pretty much impossible to screw up... I wake up when the sun comes up, period. no matter how little sleep I got, how tired I am, or how much I want to stay in bed. :(
00:00 katsmeow-afk nope, if i goto bed earlier, i'll just spend a lot of time laying there till i goto sleep at the regular time
00:01 katsmeow-afk i am going to bed about noon-2pm lately
00:01 furrywolf meep!
00:02 katsmeow-afk sleep till 5pm-7pm, so you see i am still not egtting enough sleep
00:02 furrywolf :(
00:02 rrywolf makes a note to tuck katsmeow-afk into bed at the same time the wolfy goes to bed, then curl up on top of her, as warm wolfies help everyone sleep be
00:05 katsmeow-afk i woke up one winter morning, found it a lil hard to breathe, and opened my eyes and the world was all furry... one of the cats had curled up on my face and gone to sleep
00:06 katsmeow-afk no telling what would have happened if i had sneezed
00:06 furrywolf hrmm, I like the wire stripper addon, but I wouldn't want to sacrafice any of the knife, saw, file, or v-shaped razor cutter to put it in.
00:06 furrywolf see, proof warm fuzzy things help you sleep. you slept through having a cat curl up on your face. :)
00:07 katsmeow-afk i can sleep reeealllly soundly, unless there's danger,, i once woke wide awake and sprinted thru the woods to where two boys were trespassing, and i had 40 acres at the time
00:09 katsmeow-afk i have achieved "capacitors on a stick", going to drill more holes intot hepsuc aset o mount the sticks
00:09 katsmeow-afk <blink> whaddi say?
00:09 furrywolf ?
00:09 katsmeow-afk i have achieved "capacitors on a stick", going to drill more holes into the psu case to mount the sticks
00:09 katsmeow-afk all the letters whert here in the right order, even
00:10 katsmeow-afk pics later
00:10 katsmeow-afk i'll try to keep the pixels in the right order too
00:11 katsmeow-afk way back in the olden days, i had a C64 in an industrial environment, and labeled one button "DO NOT PRESS" , and programmed the C64 to write garbage chars randomly in random colors to the screen for 5 minutes
00:12 katsmeow-afk it was amazing how many times that button was pressed
00:12 furrywolf what did you expect? :P
00:13 furrywolf heh, speaking of buttons, I got one of those big red mushroom head emergency stop buttons... going to wire it to my mill.
00:15 katsmeow-afk saw the bottom off a large bottle, pour it with body filler, embed a bolt, and you have custom stop buttons
00:15 furrywolf but this one is shiny, and you have to twist it to release it.
00:15 katsmeow-afk use clear bottles, you can place lables into it before pouring, and the lables never get worn away
00:15 katsmeow-afk o
00:16 furrywolf in its former life, it was under a big guard, wired to the quench on a mri machine.
00:17 katsmeow-afk why did a big guard sit on it?
00:17 katsmeow-afk did you wash it well?
00:18 furrywolf it's spent a year outside, does that count?
00:18 katsmeow-afk yeas
00:19 furrywolf it's not a big flippy cover type guard, but a ring around it, that makes it hard to acidentally bump. bumping it would be expensive, I'd imagine.
00:21 katsmeow-afk did it dump the coolant?
00:22 furrywolf dunno. I only got the switch and the electronics immediately attached to it.
00:22 furrywolf it'll make an excellent "just crashed the mill" switch. :)
00:27 furrywolf #
00:27 furrywolf # A magnet quench will result in several days' downtime, so do not press the button except in a true emergency.
00:27 furrywolf # Do not attempt to test this button!
00:27 furrywolf lol
00:30 katsmeow-afk ok, getting parts mounted in psu box, instead of just trying to fit them all into the box
00:42 furrywolf bedtime for wolfies.
00:51 rrywolf tucks katsmeow-afk into bed, then curls up on top of her, since warm fluffy things help people s
00:55 katsmeow-afk you know how air blown/sucked off a evaporator can be soppy wet when it's really humid? the part of the "duct", right behind the evaporator core, where the squirrel cage blower runs has 3 inches of water in it, BECAUSE ---- they put no water drain in it;s bottom
00:56 katsmeow-afk and the reason they didn't mention how to clean the drain from the evap core to the outside? and why i couldn't figure out how to? there is no way to rod or blow it clear
00:57 katsmeow-afk and all i went down there for was to get the good tyraps from the cellar,,, and killed a scorpion on the way back up
01:16 rue_mohr yay Im home
01:27 rue_mohr I figured out a posability for the force sensor for the air muslces
01:38 rue_mohr booo nobodys awake
01:46 rue_mohr hmm , how to turn an ascii code into a baudot code
02:14 katsmeow-afk i'm awake, just -afk at the other desk(s)
02:15 katsmeow-afk deciding what bleeder resistors i want on my psu caps
02:16 katsmeow-afk 700ohm = 10ma at 7vdc,, i have 1k , lets see how fast that drops 54,000ufd of caps
02:41 katsmeow-afk ok, 470 ohms it is
02:41 katsmeow-afk still takes several mnutes, but that's ok
02:53 peepsalot what do you call a delta robot with four arms instead of three?
03:12 katsmeow-afk confusing
08:56 rue_mohr double delta?
10:37 katsmeow-afk furry, almost no water in the creek, i need a ittybitty pump, 10gal per hr max, 70ft of lift min (aka 10gal/hr@35psi)
12:43 GuShH hi katsmeow-afk, furrywolf, rue_mohr
12:43 GuShH -in no particular order-
12:45 GuShH ...or not.
12:49 furrywolf katsmeow-afk: the smallest I've seen is 1gpm. but you can always use a larger pump with an adjustable bypass. just have a valve running between output and input, and adjust it to where it doesn't suck air on the intake.
12:51 furrywolf you could also build a small dam, or bury a 55gal drum or such, with a pair of float switches. start the pump when the high level switch is tripped, let the pump down the reservoir, then stop the pump when the low level switch goes off.
12:51 furrywolf s/let the pump/let it pump
12:55 katsmeow-afk the creek bed is rock, no digging
12:56 katsmeow-afk i found a pump that bragged about 3gpm, but at 40psi it's .6 gpm
12:56 furrywolf then go with a bypass valve. let most of the pump's output flow back to the input, so it doesn't pump as much water.
12:57 katsmeow-afk how long will a diaphram pump last ?
12:57 katsmeow-afk at 0.6 gpm, that's still almost 1000gal/day , so i wouldn't have it on every day
12:58 furrywolf dunno. I have some that are >20 years old, but I don't know how many hours of use they have.
12:58 tsmeow-afk
12:58 furrywolf my three oldest ones all have bad bearings, from running with dry grease.
12:58 furrywolf and I have one that got wet and the magnets fell off.
12:59 myself I know how you ccould stick the magnets back on
12:59 furrywolf I glued them back in, then they fell off again, then I decided it was a parts unit.
12:59 myself ...bigger magnets!
13:00 GuShH katsmeow-afk: low water level in summer?
13:00 katsmeow-afk the glue seldom works, but what i did after wirebrushing the frame and the magnets and getting glue to stick, was next day pack the space tween the magnets with fiberglass and resin
13:01 furrywolf I wirebrushed the frame... the glue I used, pliobond, worked great until it got hot running for a while, then stretched out, leaving the magnets dangling on a thousand little strands.
13:01 katsmeow-afk even if the glue fails now, the resin will hold, the resin wold haveto compress for the magnets to go anywhere, and it won't
13:02 katsmeow-afk GuShH, yep, i knew it would happen, but it's a lot worse this yr already
13:02 GuShH ouch
13:02 furrywolf how long will your pool last you?
13:03 furrywolf if the creek is that low in june, you probably should start filling every water-containing object you have... at least around here, low in june means dry the next few months.
13:03 GuShH or start thinking about a well
13:04 GuShH water ought to remain flowing, just not on the surface
13:04 katsmeow-afk i have 1000gallons in it yet
13:04 furrywolf I don't think she wants to live there long enough for a hard rock well to be a good investment...
13:04 GuShH katsmeow-afk: where is the water coming from?
13:04 katsmeow-afk the ground
13:04 GuShH haw haw haw
13:04 KongfuPanda hi
13:04 GuShH is it sourcing in your property?
13:05 GuShH or somewhere else
13:05 katsmeow-afk there is stillw atr, i figure i can get 1000 gal/day still, but it's spread out over 24 hrs
13:05 katsmeow-afk my property
13:05 GuShH usually if you dig in that spot, the rock will be highly eroded
13:06 katsmeow-afk i have a pump that will get me 2000gal in 8hrs, but the creek doesn't flow 2000gal in 8 hrs atm
13:06 GuShH furrywolf: on the other hand water can be found near the creek as well.
13:06 furrywolf I've run shurflo diaphragm pumps for several days straight, so problems yet, so running it all day should be fine.
13:06 furrywolf s/so/no
13:06 katsmeow-afk "that spot" ? the creek is 800ft long
13:06 KongfuPanda do you have solar panels?
13:06 katsmeow-afk yes
13:06 KongfuPanda nice
13:06 katsmeow-afk wtf does that haveto do with it?
13:07 GuShH katsmeow-afk: and it's all going to be eroded.
13:07 KongfuPanda just asking
13:07 GuShH KongfuPanda: you are part of the problem now
13:07 KongfuPanda nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
13:07 katsmeow-afk what's eroded?
13:07 GuShH rock.
13:07 katsmeow-afk KongfuPanda, i have no clue why you tried to change the topic of conversation
13:07 KongfuPanda put cement
13:07 GuShH ...
13:08 furrywolf KongfuPanda: are you actually paying any attention, or just talking?
13:08 GuShH KongfuPanda: no, my idea is that one could dig a well nearby the creek or right at the source point.
13:08 katsmeow-afk so what if the creek has eroded rock? i can't get thru it, and the water is on top of it anyhow
13:08 KongfuPanda I wasn't trying, I was just thinking if energy for pumping comes from the mains or solar panels
13:09 GuShH katsmeow-afk: because it's going to be easier than drilling through solid rock, but if you want to get the hell away from there then furrywolf is right..
13:09 katsmeow-afk you did not ask wher the energy for pumping came from
13:09 GuShH KongfuPanda: but that's irrelevant, you can have all the energy you want but if theres not enough volume of water you are doomed
13:09 katsmeow-afk what will be easier than drilling thru solid rock?
13:09 KongfuPanda I go to play video games, you look too uptight today
13:09 GuShH katsmeow-afk: and what about furrywolf's idea of a "bladder" nearby, you could use rocks to detour some of the water
13:09 katsmeow-afk KongfuPanda, i do NOT pump water with solar panels
13:10 GuShH KongfuPanda: maybe if you keep playing games, you'll grow up one day?
13:10 katsmeow-afk GuShH, there is not enough water for rocks to detour any
13:10 GuShH I got banned in #geekstreams yesterday for being realistic.
13:10 GuShH katsmeow-afk: plastic sheet and rocks?
13:10 GuShH or is it that wide spread you just can't collect any
13:11 katsmeow-afk can you take my word for it?
13:11 GuShH I vote for a shallow well near the creek.
13:11 furrywolf lug the jackhammer down there, make a hole. :)
13:11 katsmeow-afk a shallow well will haveto go thru solid rock damnit
13:11 GuShH is there rock -near- the creek?
13:11 GuShH it doesn't have to be right at the edge
13:11 katsmeow-afk and why bust thru the rock when the water is on TOP of the rock?
13:12 GuShH because theres a lot more water down there
13:12 katsmeow-afk GuShH, the whole fucking county is underlain with this layer of rock
13:12 GuShH why should I know this? you could just tell me. but I'm sure there are spots where there isn't any rock
13:12 katsmeow-afk no there isn't, not now, it's all anotehr 20ft below that
13:13 katsmeow-afk the rock layer is 15ft thick and runs for miles
13:13 katsmeow-afk i know what is there, you don't, how can you be arguing at me?
13:14 GuShH up until now, you failed to mention it.
13:14 GuShH because you don't realize I don't live there.
13:14 GuShH You just said there's rock by the creek.
13:14 katsmeow-afk i said there is rock under and in the creek
13:15 katsmeow-afk how do you suppose it got there? it magically appeared? no, the creek cut thru the dirt to the rock
13:15 GuShH With your sourcing abilities, could you get some used / cheap well bits?
13:15 katsmeow-afk i have some
13:16 katsmeow-afk i also have a jackhammer and 3 blownout disks in my back, and the creek is 70ft downt he mountainside, what do you think i am going to do ?
13:16 GuShH katsmeow-afk: and I've been saying drill near it, but I didn't know there was rock -everywhere-
13:16 GuShH usually a machine does the drilling, not yourself.
13:16 GuShH I'd be surprised if you couldn't rig one with all the scrap you have
13:17 tsmeow-afk tells the machine to hike it's 200lbs ass down to the c
13:17 GuShH katsmeow-afk: mind over matter
13:17 GuShH katsmeow-afk: is there a survey of the ground in that zone?
13:18 katsmeow-afk yep
13:18 GuShH I guess you've been through that already
13:18 katsmeow-afk yep
13:18 katsmeow-afk damn if i don't know what i am talking about
13:19 GuShH Never said you didn't know.
13:20 GuShH katsmeow-afk: but theres often places where the rock has cracked and gone away, and happens to be covered in dirt and other lose materials where if you removed it, you could collect whatever small amount of water streamed by
13:21 furrywolf grr. just got a call from my boss. have to meet a flight coming in tonight, eta 12:04am.
13:23 GuShH "VISA MANAGER 92 -- Your credit card has been blocked" (attachment) hahahaha
13:24 GuShH The text was obviously written by some indian guy, or chinese probably.
13:25 furrywolf bbl, operating anti-internet device.
13:25 ShH doesn't even have visa to begin with, and he was both writing phishing and anti-phishing code before those retards were
13:25 katsmeow-afk IT'S 15 FEET THICK
13:26 katsmeow-afk you're trolling me, gnite, bbl
13:26 GuShH katsmeow-afk: there have to be places where the rock has naturally gone away. it's not a man-made perfect structure.
13:26 GuShH I'm not.
13:26 GuShH And if you refuse to believe so, then depend on rain as your main water source during the summer... which isn't ideal.
13:28 katsmeow-afk wtf would i depend on rain when i have a creek with clear cold water flowing into it from out of the ground?
13:29 katsmeow-afk i found my dremel, bbl
13:29 GuShH katsmeow-afk: because it dries during summer?
13:48 furrywolf got the wiring re-routed around the water heater door... need to go buy a couple new studs, then it's time to start cutting.
20:07 katsmeow-afk re GuShH saying the creek dries in summer:
20:07 katsmeow-afk [12:54] <GuShH> is it sourcing in your property?
20:07 katsmeow-afk [12:54] <GuShH> or somewhere else
20:07 katsmeow-afk [12:54] <katsmeow-afk> there is stillw atr, i figure i can get 1000 gal/day still, but it's spread out over 24 hrs
20:07 katsmeow-afk [12:54] <katsmeow-afk> my property
20:08 katsmeow-afk [12:46] <katsmeow-afk> how long will a diaphram pump last ?
20:08 katsmeow-afk [12:47] <katsmeow-afk> at 0.6 gpm, that's still almost 1000gal/day , so i wouldn't have it on every day
20:08 katsmeow-afk 1000 gallons per day is hardly "dry"
20:12 GuShH "still", "spread out over 24hs"
20:12 GuShH and no way to pump it as of now.
20:40 Tom_itx rue_mohr http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/free-cad/index.php?title=Robot_Workbench
21:14 katsmeow-afk what do you mean "no way" ? [12:55] <katsmeow-afk> i have a pump that will get me 2000gal in 8hrs, but the creek doesn't flow 2000gal in 8 hrs atm <<== so i cycle the pump, and while that's not optimal, it's POSSIBLE
21:14 tsmeow-afk is going to stop getting trolled so much by G
21:18 furrywolf I have work at midnight tonight. :(
21:18 katsmeow-afk you get to work at midnite?! and someone will PAY YOU for doing that? man youa re so lucky
21:19 furrywolf no I'm not! that's two hours after I go to bed, and I'll be completely exhausted and barely able to drive.
21:19 katsmeow-afk o
21:25 GuShH katsmeow-afk: no one was trolling you
21:25 GuShH quit playing victim on me
21:28 furrywolf she knows her land much better than you do. if she tells you your idea won't work on her property, the correct response isn't to insist the terrain must be different than she says it is, when you have no knowledge otherwise.
21:28 furrywolf continuing to argue is.... I don't know if it's trolling, but I'm sure there's some term for it.
21:28 GuShH ...
21:29 GuShH If you could read you'd know shes the one that keeps going at it and playing victim, wanting me to treat her different from any other person.
21:29 katsmeow-afk and telling me there's no water there , during the conversation on pumping that water, is trolling for a reply
21:29 katsmeow-afk anyhoo, i have GuShH on ignore for a while, i need a break
21:30 GuShH Yeah ignore those who have different opinions, this is how you'll get to the top.
21:30 GuShH Clearly you haven't worked with people in decades.
21:31 furrywolf your opinion of her terrain is worse than useless.
21:31 furrywolf if it's different, it's pretty much automatically wrong.
21:31 GuShH As are your pointless comments on the matter
21:43 furrywolf bbl, going to go run some errands I was planning on running tomorrow... got to kill time until going back to work at midnight.
21:48 dehuman rage!
21:53 GuShH dehuman: not worth it.
21:53 GuShH everyone gets what they deserve.
22:02 Tom_itx how come i didn't?
22:10 GuShH Tom_itx: so we should also say "sooner or later"
22:10 GuShH but it starts to sound like a threat.
22:10 GuShH anyway check this out http://www.aprel.com/products/em-isight.html

23:45 furrywolf back. bought food, a 1/4" 12pt socket, 20 8" square pots, metal etching primer, and a bottle of "liquid silk". no relation between any of those. :)

23:54 GuShH furrywolf: that page screams "welcome to the 90s"
23:55 furrywolf ok
23:55 furrywolf I purchased it based on the recommendation of the hot lesbian at the toy store, not their web design.
23:55 rue_more "Dude, stop freaking out, I just saved this plane trip a pile of fuel." "YOU THREW THE PILOT OUT DURING THE FLIGHT!!!!"
