00:06 rue_mohr I DID IT
00:06 katsmeow-afk WOW
00:06 katsmeow-afk wth were you doing a foot underground??
00:06 rue_mohr I monkey coded a recursive function to navigate a dll tree to find a result and bring it back
00:06 katsmeow-afk umm, congrats?
00:07 rue_mohr and it WORKS
00:07 rue_mohr > selectnode Hips
00:07 rue_mohr > selectnode kat
00:07 rue_mohr Cant find node kat
00:07 rue_mohr > selectnode Hips
00:07 rue_mohr >
00:08 tsmeow-afk looks clueless like it was m
00:08 rue_mohr its a component to the 3d structure editor
00:08 rue_mohr I can now select a node,
00:09 rue_mohr now I can finish the commands to add new nodes to it
00:10 rue_mohr just past bedtime, gnight
00:10 katsmeow-afk gnite rue
00:14 e_mohr mumbles gnight while falling as
00:18 e_bed mumbles gnight while falling as
00:45 katsmeow-afk new blister
00:45 katsmeow-afk on each paw
00:46 rrywolf sends kat more gl
00:47 katsmeow-afk i need to get *far more* work done, not less
00:48 rrywolf curls up on kat's lap for bedtime, figuring a sleeping lapwolfy is excellent for helping her get more work
00:49 furrywolf time for me to get ready for bed.
00:49 katsmeow-afk well, i mean like drilling screw clearance hole in boxes, breaking up mountain and shoveling it, the carrying that up onto the roof, etc
00:49 rrywolf curls up for bed
00:50 furrywolf but... that stuff is hard to do with a lapwolfy!
00:50 katsmeow-afk so is washing clothes!
00:51 tsmeow-afk looks sad and sits qui
00:51 furrywolf :(
00:52 furrywolf lapwolfies are supposed to make people happy, not sad. :(
00:52 katsmeow-afk it's not you
00:52 katsmeow-afk my paws are sore from being unused for 2 yrs and suddenly being used again, hard
00:53 katsmeow-afk blisters, fingerprints worn off, that sorta wear
00:53 katsmeow-afk these blisters are too deep to pop, so they are gonna be a pita for a while
00:54 katsmeow-afk i can feel them, they are tender
00:54 katsmeow-afk and right where i need to hold the saw for making psu heatsinks, or gripping the screwshooter, etc
00:55 furrywolf I've had deep blisters like that take weeks to pop, by which time the skin under then is a nice hard callous.
00:56 katsmeow-afk well, other than lack of dogs on the roof, i won't have abig problem with other critters either
00:57 katsmeow-afk and if i canget a dense canopy of beans over the house next year, that will cool the inside a lot
00:57 katsmeow-afk or a dense canopy of solar panels
00:57 katsmeow-afk whatever to take the heat off
00:58 rrywolf curls back up, since it's time for
00:58 tsmeow-afk takes her people-shoes
01:03 tsmeow-afk pets absentmindedly while trying to think up the cheapest way to use the least water for a beans and carrots and herbs and onions garden in 2-liter bottles set 6" apart in 4ft wide g
01:04 katsmeow-afk and maybe not use dirt,, but not having anything else except leaves
01:37 rue_bed I came up with an idea to find out what I'm like
01:37 rue_bed time delay camera loop
01:37 rue_bed about a 2 second delay
01:37 katsmeow-afk nope
01:37 rue_bed then I can talk to myself
01:37 katsmeow-afk every 2 sec you'll find you are all about looking at the camera loop
01:38 rue_bed I just need to be able to talk to me
01:38 rue_bed seeing as it looks, so far, like I'm the only one I'l ever have to talk to
01:38 rue_bed face to face
01:39 katsmeow-afk you need a good robot, why not make one?
01:39 rue_bed I dont understand the mind enough to quantify the requirements to make a good one
01:40 katsmeow-afk if it helps, i am in the same boat, till i get a big boat built, then i'll be in a different boat
01:41 rue_bed heh
01:41 katsmeow-afk difference is i figure i can't live with anyone
01:42 rue_bed there is someone out there, just your odds of finding them are infintessimal
01:42 rue_bed such is my problem too
01:42 katsmeow-afk "well, whatever floats your boat" "ocean water, i am 50 miles off the coast of Argentina, delivering electronics"
01:43 rue_bed where is the ferry people are demanding a company sink for safety reasons
01:43 rue_bed hmmm
01:43 katsmeow-afk "i am in the Sargasso, watching beautiful phosphorescent lighting in the water with wonderful music and incredibly fresh breezes"
01:44 rue_bed are you too young for swing?
01:44 rue_bed I'm sure swing was 60's my roommate says 40s
01:44 katsmeow-afk i suggested someone earlier
01:45 rue_bed I didn't catch it
01:45 katsmeow-afk count Bassie
01:45 katsmeow-afk duke Ellington
01:46 katsmeow-afk glenn miller might put you to sleep
01:46 katsmeow-afk google all around their nicks
01:47 katsmeow-afk i don't remember if i speled count B's nick right
01:48 katsmeow-afk afk a few, i have a burning desire to know how a 2 liter bottle fits in cattle fencing
01:56 rue_bed electrical isolator around the post?
02:01 katsmeow-afk no?
02:02 katsmeow-afk anyhoo, the 6x6 holes are way too big, but a 4" wire cut out of 2x4 welded wire fencing, making a 4x4 hole, holds it sorta ok, maybe
02:05 katsmeow-afk if i lay the fence flat, put 4x4 holes in it, push 2liter bottles into the holes, put holey catch pipes for the upside down bottles to drain into, cut the bottoms out of the bottles, make it all be one unit i can place from roof peak to roof peak, i'll have a garden that not in the way, shading the house, not where grasshoppers or gods can get at it, and it could be 24x32 feet
02:05 katsmeow-afk i lower a frame to pick or plant it, then set it back up overhead for 2 weeks
02:09 katsmeow-afk they'd be heavy, and a tangle of water tubes, this needs thinks
04:02 -asimov.freenode.net:#robotics- [freenode-info] help freenode weed out clonebots -- please register your IRC nick and auto-identify: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup
04:57 katsmeow-afk i got a blister from winding the motor, i got some deep blisters on my paws from moving dirt from the cellar to put the water pump there, and making the garden on the roof with that dirt
05:04 GuShH :/
05:04 ShH pats katsmeow
05:05 GuShH shit, ad placement is hard.
05:31 Helios I got some Avocado oil
05:33 GuShH ok?
05:33 GuShH what can you do with it
05:33 katsmeow-afk http://www.gadgetgangster.com/find-a-project/56?projectnum=405
05:34 GuShH katsmeow-afk: neat, a bit pricey though
05:34 GuShH I want one just for IRC
05:34 GuShH it's out there, forgot the name
05:34 GuShH basically a standalone irc client
05:35 GuShH keyboard input, vga out, ethernet.
05:44 Skwint it's a BBC micro you can put in your pocket.... you could try raspberry pi
05:44 Skwint or getting a cheap android phone :p
05:47 katsmeow-afk why can't i sleep, why can't i turn my brain on and off as needed?
05:48 GuShH Skwint: android? eek
05:49 GuShH katsmeow-afk: because you've got things to do!
05:50 Skwint because you have a poorly constructed brain that evolved rather than being designed in its current form. It needs refactoring quite badly, but apparantly that would cause binary compatibility issues with the rest of the species :/
05:52 katsmeow-afk i am already incompatable with the dominant species on this planet
05:52 ShH is pissed off by paypal once a
05:52 GuShH they show 4 addresses, but only allow me to edit one
05:53 katsmeow-afk edit one at a time
05:53 GuShH it doesn't let me.
05:53 katsmeow-afk o
05:53 GuShH it only shows 1 at "street address" but when I go to "my profile" it shows 4
05:53 GuShH 3 of which are old and don't want to have them anymore linked to my account.
05:53 katsmeow-afk delete them
05:54 GuShH it doesn't let me.
05:54 GuShH that's why I'm pissed off.
05:54 GuShH and when I try to delete the one that I can, it says "you can't delete your home address"
05:54 katsmeow-afk here IS a different page for editing vs viewing/selecting
05:54 GuShH yes profile-> "add or edit street address"
05:54 katsmeow-afk i do not remember
05:54 GuShH it's buggered up
05:58 GuShH added another one, shows 5, but only lets me edit 2.
05:58 ShH y
06:01 katsmeow-afk i am so ticked off about their limit on saved sellers, i am tempted to add code to the http proxy to edit ebay pages such that clicking on "save seller" saves them to my own local db
06:05 katsmeow-afk if only i had time, and could sleep on it
06:08 GuShH katsmeow-afk: I always seem to have trouble with them...
06:09 GuShH They don't like international users very much
06:16 katsmeow-afk damnit, yet anotehr thing to add to the list: a force field to stop birds from flying into the house when doors and windows are open,, cause they'll set off the new proximity alarms
06:17 GuShH katsmeow-afk: pir based?
06:17 GuShH or are they inductive / capacitive?
06:17 katsmeow-afk pir
06:17 GuShH katsmeow-afk: I need help with a capacitive proximity sensor, basically just a couple strips of copper tape but I want to detect objects getting near to it
06:18 katsmeow-afk with the windows being metal, and the door plated steel, i have been thinking of the capacitive versions too
06:18 GuShH should I place this "capacitor" as part of an oscillator's tank and measure frequency shift?
06:18 GuShH well it's been bothering me for a while, i know there are ICs just for this but I should be able to come up with my own implementation... I think.
06:19 katsmeow-afk you could drive one with an osc, and hook the otehr to a fet, anything remotely conductive getting near the pair will transfer some freq to the fet's gate
06:19 GuShH oh so the object becomes the core?
06:20 katsmeow-afk yep, it's unavoidable
06:20 GuShH what about non metallic objects
06:20 GuShH I've seen some parking sensors that will beep on proximity of trees and were not ultrasonic
06:20 katsmeow-afk i said conductive, not metalic
06:20 katsmeow-afk trees are conductive
06:20 GuShH at the right potential everything should be conductive
06:21 GuShH also I got to learn that the hard way with wood and HV
06:21 katsmeow-afk to quote a being somewhere, "you ugly bag of (conductive) water"
06:21 GuShH ....but the burn marks were cool.
06:22 GuShH the wood basically became a resistor
06:22 GuShH as it carbonized
06:22 katsmeow-afk yeas, it has moisture in it
06:22 GuShH it was in theory very dry
06:22 GuShH but there's always some moisture in there
06:23 GuShH katsmeow-afk: fet... because of the high input impedance I suppose
06:23 katsmeow-afk i should go out and see about making these blisters worse :-/
06:23 katsmeow-afk yeas
06:23 ShH oOoO(fet input op
06:24 katsmeow-afk some fets are more sensitive than others
06:24 ShH realizes he only has a few but doesn't know where they
06:24 GuShH I wonder if I could use hookup wire as a temporary sensor, although it would have a smaller surface area...
06:25 katsmeow-afk the right fet cld prolly detect you from 10ft away with a foot of hookup wier
06:25 katsmeow-afk my paws are still red from yesterday
06:25 GuShH and it could just as well mis-fire randomly
06:25 GuShH which is another issue with these things
06:26 GuShH imagine it's installed on a vehicle and it goes off at the road, randomly.
06:26 GuShH or what if it rains heavily
06:26 katsmeow-afk hence rf and tuned circuits, same as you'd do with IR transcievers, you modulate them with 38khz or something, then detect that modulation
06:27 GuShH rain could be an issue!
06:27 katsmeow-afk no one single method of detection solves all problems, except helicopter blades
06:27 GuShH but it could also be seen as signal noise
06:28 GuShH the idea of modulating data and receiving then checking sounds a bit more sane than what I had in mind.
06:28 katsmeow-afk i expect falling rain would look like bursty modulation, just design so the signal must persist for 1/2 sec
06:28 katsmeow-afk or one sec
06:28 GuShH well, this is how remotes work anyway.
06:28 katsmeow-afk yo cannot run past it, +10ft-0--10ft in a sec anyhow, so it would detect you with even a sec of lag
06:30 katsmeow-afk bbl, going to go do things outside while still cool
06:30 katsmeow-afk it's going to be summer out there by weekend
06:36 GuShH :/
06:56 Skwint a mesh is a pretty good bird force field if you just need something that lets air through
06:57 Skwint mosquito net etc
06:58 GuShH Skwint: at 100KV
06:58 GuShH free food.
06:59 Skwint when you can get me 100KV for free I won't be short of food
06:59 GuShH just steal mains from the neighbour, it'll be free.
07:00 GuShH then drive a bunch of stepup transformers!
07:00 GuShH you only really need a kV or two for this though.
07:02 GuShH http://gushh.net/tmp/epron1.jpg Interesting soldermask...
08:13 Helios Its possible to reach 100kV with old televisions
08:43 GuShH Velleman, the maker of useless kits that wastes your time and money: http://www.quasarelectronics.com/velleman/mk181-ac-power-voltage-led-indicator-kit.htm
08:44 GuShH A) They really have some retarded kits B) They never explain newbies how it works C) The usability factor on them is null.
08:48 Helios GuShH, I had a velleman card, it was ok for learning the basics and getting a stepper motor to turn continuously, but I much prefer Arduino
08:48 GuShH Helios: Heres one for ya http://gushh.net/tmp/arduinoshield.png
08:49 ShH nudges He
08:50 GuShH Helios: kids aren't learning a thing from arduinos, they just learn how to buy stuff
08:50 GuShH at least with the velleman kits you've got them soldering.
08:50 GuShH even if there are no explanations on how the circuit works
08:52 Helios Have you seen my arduino project?
08:52 Helios http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAWLjqMiulo
08:53 GuShH Helios: nope
08:53 GuShH katsmeow-afk: PayPal answered with "Good day. I have checked your account and it showed that you only have one address registered on file which is: ... (correct address here, and no others)"
08:54 GuShH But, I made sure it wasn't a local issue with cookies and whathaveyou...
08:54 GuShH And it isn't.
08:54 GuShH But it still shows extra addresses!
08:55 Helios My project was to get a parabolic mirror system to automatically track the sun and concentrate sunlight onto a boiler to drive a steam turbine round to make electricity and clean water
08:55 GuShH Helios: Truth be told I don't care for arduinians.
08:56 GuShH after what I witnessed at #arduino...
08:56 GuShH I'm not saying everyone using an Arduino is a full blown retard, but most are.
08:57 GuShH The rest are just goal-driven and are clueless as to the underlying electronics behind it all.
08:57 Helios I could have done this on a PIC, but after all the pain I had a decade ago with assembly, zif sockets, compilers, RS232, this USB all in one solution was a god-send
08:57 GuShH Which is OK but I like to know how things work.
08:57 GuShH Helios: Err use whatever you want
08:58 GuShH Helios: I'm a big fan of the msp430 now
08:59 GuShH Watching the video now...
08:59 GuShH looks very small scale, proof of concept I guess.
08:59 Helios Comparable to atmega and PIC in many ways
08:59 GuShH you could've got a nicer reflector by using a shopvac and some thick alu foil
09:00 Helios Here's the dish in action following the "sun" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CReRQb_UZj0
09:00 GuShH otherwise pressure differential to pull a vacuum, or using centripedal force to obtain a casting of a parabolic surface
09:00 Helios Mirrors are cheap
09:00 Helios Sky TV dishes are parabolic and cheap
09:00 GuShH So are the methods I described
09:01 GuShH except some are more efficient than others
09:01 GuShH you can pull a small vacuum to form the aluminum sheet, which could've been highly polished beforehand.
09:01 Helios Foil tears, mirrors don't they can be polished
09:01 GuShH it's lossy compared to store bought mirrors, but your mirrors are not perfectly aligned
09:02 Helios I got around that problem using a lens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaL-OyhwD6o
09:02 GuShH by foil I meant sheet.
09:02 Helios Here's the dish in action on the one sunny day a year we get in Scotland burning stuff
09:02 GuShH then theres the time it takes to build your thing
09:02 Helios I had to wear sun-goggles as it was very bright
09:03 ShH wears his sunglasses at n
09:03 GuShH Helios: it's a nice project
09:04 Helios Thank you
09:04 Helios Here's the first time I got the dish to move up and down, took some strong metal gears http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88zYI2hgFuw
09:04 Helios An impressive load if I may say so myself for such a tiny 5v motor
09:05 Helios As Archimedes said: Give me a rod long enough and strong enough and I can lever the earth
09:06 GuShH "...Or wack you in the head from where I'm sitting" undocumented response.
09:07 Helios ??
09:08 GuShH sense of humor, buy one.
09:09 Helios Oh with the rod, I get it now
09:09 Helios Very good
09:10 GuShH My jokes range from very bad to "what is he talking about? is he drunk? did he escape from a loony bin?"
10:11 katsmeow-afk it's 10am, the sun , where it comes thru the trees, is too hot to be out in
10:16 GuShH katsmeow-afk: I thought cats loved warm sun rays
10:16 katsmeow-afk warm, sure, hot enough to cook food on the roof, no
10:22 GuShH sounds handy, you should try cooking some eggs!

10:24 tsmeow-afk ponders,, if the plants cannot get 10 hrs of strong sun, praps 1hr of sun at 10x woul
10:25 ShH hates pa
10:25 katsmeow-afk i need one of those katnaps i had yesterday, only 4hrs this time
10:25 GuShH I can't take naps
10:25 GuShH I sleep all the way through
10:26 katsmeow-afk all the ay thru what?
10:26 GuShH For several hours until I wake up.
10:26 GuShH if I were to take a nap now, I would probably wake up at 1AM (it's 12PM currently)
10:26 furrywolf no, you can't give plants 10x the light for 1/10th the time.
10:26 katsmeow-afk 4hrs IS longer than "several hours"
10:27 GuShH that 1 hour nap would've turned into 8-10-12 hours
10:27 furrywolf beyond a certain amount of illumination, you hurt the plants, not help them.
10:27 GuShH the poor things burn up just like you
10:27 katsmeow-afk </joke>
10:27 furrywolf the dope growers have put quite a bit of work into figuring out exactly where this peak is. :)
10:27 tsmeow-afk so hopes furry knows she was not serious witht hat 10x sun com
10:28 GuShH You just need a fresnel lens.
10:28 GuShH If you see smoke, you are doing it right
10:29 furrywolf bah, looks like one of the people I was trying to get batteries from sold them to someone else.
10:29 katsmeow-afk i figure the plant needs some biodfeedback device, to communicate to me, or to sun shades, exactly when it's happy with the amount of illumination
10:31 katsmeow-afk what would be a steel container that i would happen to find laying around, good to 200F and 600psi?
10:31 katsmeow-afk i am thinking praps 3ft tall, a foot around?
10:32 katsmeow-afk or a foot dia
10:32 furrywolf 25-50gal propane tank
10:33 katsmeow-afk 600psi??
10:34 GuShH katsmeow-afk: it turns out that PayPal was fetching the data from eBay, somehow. Those old addresses are still in eBay's database.
10:34 GuShH big wtf for me.
10:34 furrywolf you could get large compressed gas cylinders (nitrogen, etc), but they tend to be less than a foot across.
10:34 GuShH It should clearly state this. "this address was linked from eBay" or whatever.
10:34 katsmeow-afk and pricey
10:35 katsmeow-afk GuShH, actually, the retailer db shoul dnot be linked to the bank's db in any way at all
10:35 GuShH Then again I went to eBay, the address is correct... the old stuff is not there.
10:35 ShH fr
10:35 GuShH Where are they fetching it from!!!
10:36 katsmeow-afk paypal has an agreement with a bricks-and-mortar bank, i forget which, praps GE MoneyBank, maybe they have the wrong addresses
10:36 furrywolf propane hits 600psi at ~200F, but I guess the tanks aren't designed for that... would need other gas cylinders.
10:36 katsmeow-afk yeas, i want warm propane
10:37 furrywolf can you use multiple smaller tanks?
10:37 furrywolf 20# co2 tanks are pretty cheap.
10:37 katsmeow-afk not really, i need to do heat exchangerising in one
10:38 katsmeow-afk kinda hard to split that task into smaller pieces
10:38 furrywolf then a large compressed gas tank is probably your best bet, or a section of gas main with 1" endplates welded on.
10:39 katsmeow-afk i wanna move 25,000 btu into the propane
10:40 katsmeow-afk if that works, i wanna think of upgrading that to 60x more btu for maybe 5 minutes, then down to 20x more for any length of time
10:41 katsmeow-afk what oil can do 200F indefinitely, hydraulic oil?
10:41 furrywolf any automotive lubricant
10:42 furrywolf engine oil is >250F during normal operation.
10:42 katsmeow-afk but engine oil breaks down in a few 100 hrs, and then starts getting gummy
10:42 katsmeow-afk even merely 100 hrs
10:43 katsmeow-afk 100hrs at 60mph = 6000 miles
10:43 furrywolf not really... most of the things that happen to engine oil are due to combustion byproducts, unburnt fuel, etc, not actual failures of the oil itself.
10:44 katsmeow-afk k, i figured hydraulic oil because those pumps run blisteringly hot, due to friction
10:44 furrywolf automatic transmissions are >200F and last >100K miles between fluid changes.
10:44 katsmeow-afk like those bolted onto 50hp diesles and run all day
10:44 furrywolf hydraulic oil can probably do it too.
10:44 furrywolf 200F isn't that hot. :)
10:45 katsmeow-afk autotrannies are hydralucs, yeas, maunals are gear oil
10:45 furrywolf gear oil can do >200F too. differentials can get _hot_.
10:45 furrywolf there's a reason they sell differential covers with aluminum heatsink fins molded into them.
10:45 tsmeow-afk hmms and thinks of oem datasheets and guarantees of perform
10:46 katsmeow-afk i know
10:46 furrywolf 200F just isn't that hot in the realm of hot fluids...
10:46 furrywolf if you don't need lubrication, just heat exchange, glycol is cheaper.
10:46 katsmeow-afk but 200 at constant duty for weeks is
10:46 GuShH furrywolf: why does the B&S oil come in one size (at least that's all I've found at the stores), but they have several engine sizes, which surely have different oil requirements
10:47 katsmeow-afk need lube, gotta feed the tank with hydraulic pumps
10:47 furrywolf b&s?
10:47 GuShH I ended up using motor oil I had, since I don't think those briggs oils are any special.
10:47 GuShH briggs and stratton
10:47 furrywolf because it's the right size to mix into one gallon of gas.
10:47 GuShH 4 stroke.
10:47 furrywolf oh. that's just motor oil with a high price tag.
10:47 katsmeow-afk then use car oil
10:47 GuShH But yes, I've seen the 2 stroke oil in tiny cans for a specified mix amount.
10:47 ropesfish I've seen synthetic oils turn to taffy when run in 13hp Kohler air cooled engines for 45 days straight
10:48 GuShH furrywolf: indeed, but a tiny motor may require less oil, a bigger one more oil...
10:48 ropesfish but synthetics are rated to 400F+
10:48 furrywolf GuShH: so they should have a seperate bottle for every single engine size? how about every brand engine too? :P
10:48 katsmeow-afk technically, you should never use motor oil in an engine, motors rn a much more benign environment for oils than engines do
10:48 GuShH furrywolf: although I think their modular design mostly changes in the piston size, the rest is probably the same
10:48 GuShH but I haven't verified this
10:49 furrywolf around here, oil is sold in quarts and gallons.
10:49 furrywolf you use however much you need, then save the rest for next time.
10:49 GuShH the bottle says "just the right amount for your engine" about 575ml or something like that.
10:49 furrywolf (you can also get 5qt, 2gal, 5gal, 10gal, 35gal, and 55gal, but they're less common)
10:49 GuShH turns out I needed more than that for mine.
10:50 furrywolf I've never bought engine-branded oil. I just run 20w50 motor oil from the auto parts store in all my small engines.
10:50 GuShH furrywolf: bleh I just used the motor oil I had, I never bought this... I was just wondering why they sell one size if the different engines may have different requirements.
10:50 furrywolf dunno, I've never seen that for sale. it's all in quarts here.
10:50 katsmeow-afk thanks, ropesfish, i had discounted synthetics for 2 reasons: 1) cost, B) Ga Pwr Co used synthetics in a solar plant in Newnan Ga in the 1980's, and it gummed up the boilers on the parabolics,, course that was 1000F and up
10:51 GuShH 535cc actually
10:51 GuShH http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-422988796-aceite-briggs-stratton-hd-sae-30-x-535cc-4-tiempos-usa-_JM
10:51 katsmeow-afk do not put motor oil in an engne anyhow, you need an engine oil
10:51 furrywolf I've never seen oil for sale in anything smaller than a quart, other than the 1gal-mix 2-stroke bottles.
10:51 furrywolf katsmeow-afk: you are aware motor oil is a synonym for engine oil, right? :P
10:51 tsmeow-afk goes away to find anotehr katnap like yeste
10:51 Steffanx nu
10:52 GuShH that actually costs about 8 times more than the motor oil I use, although prices may have changed...
10:52 furrywolf yeah, I wouldn't buy it.
10:53 furrywolf all my small engines say to run straight 30; I usually run 20w50. no problems yet.
10:53 furrywolf brb
10:55 GuShH Oh I'm using 15w40
10:56 GuShH Come summer time I'll need to change the oil in pretty much every engine I own
10:56 GuShH (Usually do it once a year)
11:35 Helios Am I allowed to print in Green?
11:38 furrywolf ... huh?
11:40 Helios Furrywolf do you prefer red?
11:43 furrywolf what are you talking about?
11:43 Steffanx Helios prefers green
11:43 Helios Certainly to smoke
11:46 rrywolf decides Helios is on more drugs than usual, and goes to do useful things inst
11:51 Helios Acutally I've been sober the passed 2 weeks
11:51 Tom_itx do you know what sober feels like?
11:53 Helios Yeah after a weeklong smoke session I got a bit grumpier than usual, stomped around lots, realised there was a MASSIVE pile of dirty dishes to get through and a pile of stinking clothes to wash and realised I had done no work on my project and realised I didn't have any money
11:54 Tom_itx did you wonder where it went?
11:55 Helios I hadn't smoked any weed for AGES and then it was my birthday and I thought I'd treat myself then I realised why I stopped in the first place
11:55 Helios It's probably illegal because it results in a totally ineffective workforce that eats twice as much food
11:56 GuShH It's not illegal in Argentina, for personal use...
11:56 GuShH Then again you don't see me smoking it just because it's legal.
11:57 Helios Its decriminalized in the UK, still illegal tho, but you won't go to jail for it
11:57 GuShH You can legally glow a plant too
11:57 GuShH grow
11:57 GuShH Jeez.
11:57 Helios Just a black mark on your criminal record, maybe a fine, electronic tag, community service etc.
11:57 Helios TBH I'm now looking into growing avocados, their oil is AMAZING
11:58 Tom_itx just makes it easier for them to process you the next time
11:58 Helios I'm better off not smoking it TBH
11:59 Steffanx AGreed
12:00 GuShH Helios: takes a long time to grow the trees
12:00 GuShH my aunt has one
12:00 GuShH you can sprout them easily but it takes many, many years to get an adult tree.
12:01 Helios Is that why it's so expensive?
12:24 furrywolf damnit. I thought I had a pop rivet set somewhere around here, but it would seem I don't.
18:32 Tom_itx ok i got 3 transformer secondaries connected with .002v across their open wires. i think they are closely enough matched to connect them as one secondary. any thoughts?
18:32 katsmeow-afk i have deleted some 30G from one drive, winders still says i have only 3G free
18:32 katsmeow-afk resistance is not the whole story, do not combine
18:33 Tom_itx not resistance. voltage
18:33 katsmeow-afk ok
18:33 Helios Yeah you're dealing with high voltage, bolt crimp the the wires, use really thick guage single core wire and use rubber covers so you can't accidentally touch the terminals
18:33 Tom_itx i lucked out and got the pairs right the first time then reversed them and got 75v
18:33 katsmeow-afk we been over this before, having the 3 windings is a great excuse to share the load across 3 diode blocks
18:33 Tom_itx then tried all 3 together
18:33 Tom_itx same .002 v
18:34 tsmeow-afk said how she'd do it and why, and lets Tom make up his own
18:34 Tom_itx i agree kat, but they are so very very closely matched
18:35 ShH wouldn't mind the firew
18:35 GuShH katsmeow-afk: have you thought about using acoustic measures against the dogs?
18:35 katsmeow-afk what is one dies, for whatever reason, is it ok if it takes out the other 2 with it?
18:36 Tom_itx wouldn't that pop the main fuse first?
18:36 Helios Or the circuit breaker
18:36 Helios if u have one
18:36 ShH wonders if katsmeow-afk is willing to try that
18:36 katsmeow-afk depends on how many windings shorted
18:38 Tom_itx either way i go, i think i'll wire them so they are going to the bridges in phase
18:38 Tom_itx whether it matters or not
18:38 katsmeow-afk it's your call, i will stop talking about it, you obviously have objections to my suggestions, for some reason, reason to make you want to discuss it until i give in, which i won't
18:38 Tom_itx i'm no expert is why i was asking
18:38 ShH wonders if katsmeow-afk has give
18:38 Tom_itx but i previously didn't know the voltage differential
18:38 Tom_itx now i do
18:39 Helios Tom, I once tried to wire up my own transformer and the moment I flicked the switch this really bright light shone throught the plastic covering of the switch then all the lights went dim
18:39 Helios It was bright enough to penetrate the plastic plug
18:39 Tom_itx you apparently wired it wrong
18:41 GuShH katsmeow-afk: 25-60KHz sweep, heavily modulated. dogs just can't stand it, they'll run away and not dare come back. You probably have everything you need, not sure about the drivers but still... I don't think any regular retard could prove what you were doing or how anyway.
18:41 tsmeow-afk
18:41 Helios Tom, right. And I think you'll do the same thing, like me not on purpose, but just because you've overlooked something
18:42 katsmeow-afk and if i am found out, i get 10 yrs for animal cruelty,, they *VERY* highly value their gods here, it's insane
18:42 GuShH You won't
18:42 GuShH They are idiots.
18:42 GuShH And you'll just hide the equipment inside a wall if need be.
18:42 GuShH the drivers can look like regular speakers
18:43 GuShH And it doesn't have to output enough power to cause pain, just enough to detour.
18:43 GuShH You can modify a dog's behavior like this
18:44 Tom_itx LRAD are commonly used nowdays
18:45 GuShH anything highly directional will be obvious
18:45 GuShH but take a dog whistle for example, it's not really directional.
18:47 GuShH Now if the dogs are deaf, you are shit out of luck.
18:51 ShH goes to sleep and hopes katsmeow-afk gives it a
18:52 Helios visual clues maybe?
18:53 katsmeow-afk you want a visual clue to a sound?
18:53 GuShH sure use a laser and be entirely obvious.
18:54 GuShH you may as well blind the dogs with high power lasers.
18:54 GuShH and, hide them inside a wall so no one could figure out what happened.
18:54 GuShH ok, for this to work you ought to own one already and have no paper-trail behind.
18:54 GuShH see, Helios your idea sucks.
18:54 ShH slaps He
18:55 GuShH Helios: people can't hear way over 25KHz, and dogs can't talk.
18:55 katsmeow-afk hmm sucks,, hmm, did you see that prairie dog vacuum?
18:55 GuShH no
18:56 katsmeow-afk sucks the animals right out of the tunnels
18:56 GuShH I keep thinking one of these days a neighbour's dog will jump over the fence and try to bite my balls off... I'm looking forward to it, since I always carry some sort of weapon.
18:56 GuShH I could actually sue them, right after killing it.
18:57 GuShH But it's hard to prove you weren't provoking the beast.
18:57 GuShH Unless you have CCTV
18:58 katsmeow-afk and i was told if i installed cctv they's arrest me for taking pics of an animal illegally on my property, which is a violation of it';s rights
18:59 GuShH ...
18:59 GuShH bullshit
18:59 GuShH who the fuck said that
18:59 GuShH that's complete and total bullshit.
18:59 katsmeow-afk DA's office
18:59 GuShH are you also stealing it's soul by taking pictures?
18:59 katsmeow-afk said if i video's or took pics of it, they'd put my ass in jail
18:59 GuShH Have it catch on fire.
18:59 GuShH Have the whole place burnt down.
19:00 katsmeow-afk judge at the time refused to look at pics i already had of the dogs and damage, and said if i helf the evidence up in court for people to see, i'd be in jail immeadiately
19:00 katsmeow-afk i told you, it's insane here
19:00 GuShH and insane requires insane.
19:01 GuShH rc blimp molotov cocktail.
19:02 katsmeow-afk i want LESS involvement witht he neighbors
19:02 GuShH oh I meant for the DA
19:02 GuShH katsmeow-afk: use sound for the dogs... just powerful enough so they won't dare walk in.
19:03 katsmeow-afk o,, does Chavez or Castro still have hit money rewards for that sorta thing?
19:04 GuShH the average joe won't be able to tell from a regular hi-fi set.
19:05 katsmeow-afk what about the other local dogs and cats, rabbits, that are not a bother or threatening harm?
19:05 katsmeow-afk hand out ear plugs?
19:05 GuShH you can't have it all.
19:05 GuShH either keep living scared or do something smart
19:06 GuShH perhaps in time they'll get trained not to walk nearby and you'll stop using it eventually
19:06 GuShH a highly directional driver would be too obvious, since you'd have to point it toward the general direction of the dog
19:15 Helios beddy byes for snoozey pies
20:19 rue_mohr I just bought a pair of headphones from a bargin shop for $3
20:19 rue_mohr they sound JUST AS BAD as the ones I paid $10 from the dollar store
20:20 rue_mohr neigher of them sound nearly as good as the $22 ones from the drugstore
20:21 rue_mohr and I bought some guakamoli for the burritos, hummice was an error
20:22 rue_mohr I screwed up, I cant take my truck to the ferry to go for training, its box is full of robots
20:22 rue_mohr so I have to see if I can connect with the bus
23:04 furrywolf well, I'm going to be a bad wolfy.
23:04 furrywolf there's someone with a 12V aircon out of a 5th wheel rv for $30.
23:05 furrywolf I shouldn't spend $30, but... it'd sure be nice on hot days...
23:05 furrywolf during this sunny weather, I have >1000W spare.
23:06 furrywolf might as well do something with it!
23:07 furrywolf supposedly it pulls 30A @ 12V, but is 3ft x 2ft x 1.5ft... so it's either in a very spacious box, or he doesn't have the power right...
23:08 furrywolf I'll need to get a bigger 24v->12v converter.
23:08 furrywolf only have a 10A one right now.
23:13 furrywolf grrrrr. he just sent me http://www.uscconlinealbum.com/lifecache-media-server/photos/photo02/8c/ed/8ca75785ce7a_82d8caed-e8d9-4d74-a11d-58d51a527954
23:13 furrywolf note the input voltage.
23:13 furrywolf bah!
23:21 furrywolf I'll let him keep it. plenty of 120V aircons out there.
