00:08 rrywolf sighs and heads to bed with no
00:23 tsmeow-afk stumbles ba
00:24 katsmeow-afk someone should be petting furry gnites if i am not here
01:08 rue_mohr http://hackaday.com/2012/06/09/inmoov-a-3d-printed-animatronic-hand-you-can-download/
01:23 rue_mohr hmm
01:41 rue_mohr kats been in the sauce?
02:34 rue_mohr ooo this reprap cam program is cool
02:54 rue_mohr katsmeow-afk,
02:54 rue_mohr http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22464622/Prusa%20Mendel%20Visual%20Instructions%20%28Standard%20Resolution%29.pdf
02:55 rue_mohr the improvemetns I see are beyond my ability to count
02:55 rue_mohr I should build one their way, then start making them
02:59 rue_mohr haha parallel wired unipolar steppers for keeping the z axis from sheering.... haha
03:01 rue_mohr there are equally insightfull design features, dont get me wrong
07:33 SquirrelCZECH wow, idler's channel? :D
07:40 Skwint yup
07:40 Skwint but most of us are too busy to idle properly and have bots do it for us
08:02 SquirrelCZECH i see... anyway, is there someone familiar with making rover from tamyia-style chassis?
08:03 SquirrelCZECH I have this http://files.rcsvetla.webnode.cz/200000019-073d007b89/tl01-01.jpg at home and I just plan to add there: Arduino, old netbook and webcam, to make simple wificontrolled robot
08:03 SquirrelCZECH + robotic arm to move with the webcam
08:04 SquirrelCZECH and some circuits to power up the servors for robotic arm... (low-voltage cutoff because of Li-Po batteries)
08:05 SquirrelCZECH any suggestions or tips? :-) I am really newbie at this, so I am afraid of that I just missed something
08:18 Tom_itx our bots are 12' and larger
08:18 Skwint mines not
08:18 Tom_itx nuclear powered
08:19 Skwint but I'm also a newbie :p
08:21 Skwint if you want to get attention in here at the moment though, tell them you want your car to have a 12' refocusable parabollic mirror on top which it can use to fry the neighbours dog
08:28 SquirrelCZECH :D
08:29 uirrelCZECH was considering paintball gun or something simmilla
08:29 SquirrelCZECH *similar
09:08 Skwint what controls your car, squirrel?
09:09 Skwint ESC Receiver thing?
09:09 Skwint or nothing atall, just a bunch of wires?
09:41 Rebo woo hoo! a robotics irc channel! i hav'nt been on irc for a few years now.
09:42 Sunnyday Glad you could come
09:42 Rebo glad to be here.
09:43 Rebo i'm a life long robot fanatic. and it'd be nice to have a place to talk about ideas with out boring my wife to death.
09:44 Steffanx lol
09:44 Rebo schedual wise, i may never be on this early on a weekend for a while. been up all night working on an arduino based cellular notifier.
09:45 Rebo it's kicking my ass.
09:54 Rebo anyone working on a neat project or robot?
10:01 Skwint I think so
10:01 Skwint but not me - I'm back in the world of software atm
10:05 Tom_itx Rebo, http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/
10:12 Rebo cool projects. like the toaster oven upgrade, and the death road pictures there at the bottom. pretty cool, indeed.
10:50 rue_bed looks like its gonna be overcast today
10:50 rue_bed grrrr
10:52 rue_bed the cats just want to go play in the television
11:53 katsmeow-afk ouch
12:08 SquirrelCZECH Skwint, I am gonna to get some cheap Tamyia ESC... :-)
12:08 SquirrelCZECH I really don't feel to build some DC Motor Regulator for 540 size motor
12:10 SquirrelCZECH something like Tamiya ESC TEU-104BK
12:13 SquirrelCZECH with Tamyia Jonhnson motor
12:16 rrywolf sends SquirrelCZECH a .50 nitro ins
12:17 rue_mohr how big is a 540 motor?
12:18 furrywolf it's the standard mid-grade electric r/c motor
12:18 furrywolf or maybe 540 is the larger one
12:18 rrywolf doesn't reme
12:19 furrywolf 540 might be the jumbo one
12:19 furrywolf still nothing compared to a decent nitro engine. :)
12:21 furrywolf yeah, 540 is the standard. just googled to check.
12:21 rue_mohr thermocouple for molten aluminum
12:22 rue_mohr I'm thinking a copper pipe with a steel bar down the middle
12:22 furrywolf ir thermometer?
12:22 rue_mohr but how shall I insulate from the tip
12:22 rue_mohr no
12:22 rue_mohr a home brew thermocouple is a) available b) cheapter
12:22 rue_mohr cheaper
12:23 rrywolf doesn't remember the relative melting points of aluminum and co
12:23 rue_mohr copper is way higher than alum
12:24 katsmeow-afk insulate the bar from the tube with sand, do not insulate the exterior steel tube, just use floating diferential input on your amplifier
12:24 rrywolf hops on kat's
12:25 SquirrelCZECH furrywolf, sorry
12:25 SquirrelCZECH I need motor that works actually
12:26 SquirrelCZECH not motor when I have to care about it...
12:26 tsmeow-afk
12:26 SquirrelCZECH I also don't need car with low endurance
12:26 furrywolf ... then why are you using electric?
12:26 SquirrelCZECH because it's easier?
12:26 SquirrelCZECH cheaper?
12:26 katsmeow-afk SquirrelCZECH, some of build our own motors, some are currently building experimental motors
12:26 SquirrelCZECH it's silent...
12:27 furrywolf nitro has much, much, much more endurance than electric.
12:27 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, I don't mind thut :D
12:27 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, but i don't like nitro engines
12:27 SquirrelCZECH furrywolf, hmm
12:27 SquirrelCZECH maybe it's difference between robotic's nitro and rc's racing nitro
12:27 katsmeow-afk what furry said, you cannot beat the power-to-weight or power-to-volume of liquid fuels
12:27 SquirrelCZECH but the second one are horrible..
12:28 katsmeow-afk <SquirrelCZECH> katsmeow-afk, but i don't like nitro engines <<== i didn't say anything about nitro engines
12:28 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, yes, but you can't go with it in your home
12:28 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, sorry than
12:28 katsmeow-afk why are you addressing ME for everything FURRYWOLF says?
12:28 furrywolf a pint of nitro fuel is something like fifty nimh battery packs...
12:28 SquirrelCZECH sorry! :-)
12:29 SquirrelCZECH furrywolf, lucky that i don't use nimh
12:29 SquirrelCZECH :-)
12:29 katsmeow-afk btw, i do not use "motor" when i mean "engine", or "engine" when i mean "motor"
12:29 SquirrelCZECH sorry :-)
12:29 SquirrelCZECH btw: and point is
12:29 SquirrelCZECH I allready have unused Li-Po battery and unused chassis with Tamyia Jonhson 540 motor
12:30 furrywolf SquirrelCZECH: consider a full-size electric car... it's not uncommon to have over a full ton of batteries, and it goes the same distance as 2-3 gallons of gasoline.
12:30 SquirrelCZECH so for me as beginner is perfect
12:30 SquirrelCZECH furrywolf, hmm
12:30 SquirrelCZECH furrywolf, why I should considered something like that? :-)
12:31 katsmeow-afk no, btw = by the way
12:31 uirrelCZECH don't want to build full-size
12:31 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, I know, but I am just eating and little bit lost in the text, so...
12:32 uirrelCZECH got this chassis at home http://files.rcsvetla.webnode.cz/200000019-073d007b89/tl01-01.jpg
12:32 rrywolf gives up and goes back to being a lapw
12:34 katsmeow-afk i wonder if one could operate two of those cheapo model aircraft engines to power a turbocharger for each otehr, so the outputs can be fired against each otehr to decrease the exhaust sound volume
12:34 katsmeow-afk you cannot do it with out turbo, because they use the exhaust gas in a tuned system to suck in intake air+fuel
12:34 furrywolf making the engine quiet is easy. making the prop quiet isn't.
12:35 katsmeow-afk the engine is earsplitting tho
12:35 furrywolf you can get excellent mufflers.
12:35 furrywolf makes it into a little putput noise
12:36 katsmeow-afk there was a rc club here, i hear, decades ago, i dunno anyone doing *anything* interesting here in decades tho, so i have not heard or seen any RC since i hooked that model tank to the puter~5 yrs ago
12:42 SquirrelCZECH :D
12:42 uirrelCZECH is acutally racing with RC Cars, but only elec
12:42 SquirrelCZECH I got some nitro offroad, but the racing engines are too expensive and too hard to setup
12:43 katsmeow-afk is racing all there is to do with RC now?
12:43 SquirrelCZECH yep, it can be done, but with electric I can focus on the race itself
12:43 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, wut?
12:43 SquirrelCZECH I just can't understand :D
12:43 katsmeow-afk ok
12:43 uirrelCZECH is not native english spe
12:44 katsmeow-afk racing , is there nothing else can be done ?
12:44 SquirrelCZECH with cars? more or less...
12:45 SquirrelCZECH I think it depends on personality
12:45 SquirrelCZECH driving a RC Car in front of house is boring for me
12:45 SquirrelCZECH but racing with others is kinda fun... :-)
12:45 katsmeow-afk dostihy, je tam nic jiného se dá delat?
12:45 SquirrelCZECH O_o
12:45 SquirrelCZECH believe me
12:45 SquirrelCZECH Czech language is... hard even for czech people
12:46 SquirrelCZECH and pc translate ... just don't work..
12:46 katsmeow-afk trust me, many usa people are too stupid to use english well
12:46 tsmeow-afk
12:46 SquirrelCZECH it can help you, but it can't be used as translator
12:46 katsmeow-afk did pc translate work properly?
12:46 uirrelCZECH only use it to translate phr
12:46 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, ...
12:47 SquirrelCZECH to translate from english to czech
12:47 SquirrelCZECH you have to know context ... and all exceptions in gramatics
12:47 SquirrelCZECH which itself is not easy...
12:47 katsmeow-afk dostihy, je tam nic jiného se dá delat? = racing, is there anything else we can do? ?
12:47 SquirrelCZECH nope
12:47 SquirrelCZECH racing is completely wrong
12:48 tsmeow-afk understands problems, but has no solution
12:48 katsmeow-afk zavod?
12:48 SquirrelCZECH yep
12:48 SquirrelCZECH and the second one
12:48 katsmeow-afk not urychleni?
12:48 SquirrelCZECH nope
12:48 SquirrelCZECH it can be used just with adding: "je tam neco jineho CO se da delat"
12:49 katsmeow-afk auto neprimerenou rychlostí
12:49 SquirrelCZECH :D
12:49 SquirrelCZECH and that's something i can't translate to english now
12:49 katsmeow-afk i know all pc translate mix up "spoke" , because in usa "spoke" can be part of tire
12:50 SquirrelCZECH car with inappropriate speed
12:50 SquirrelCZECH :-)
12:50 tsmeow-afk
12:50 SquirrelCZECH this is thing I love about czech language
12:50 SquirrelCZECH and hate about english
12:50 SquirrelCZECH in czech you just say what you reaad
12:50 SquirrelCZECH *read
12:51 SquirrelCZECH not even single thing with pronunciation
12:51 SquirrelCZECH except of some word from different language
12:51 SquirrelCZECH *words
12:52 katsmeow-afk well, czech is much closer to original old Eu words, english in usa is so far and borrows back from Eu languages, usa "chef" and "chief" come from SAME French word
12:53 katsmeow-afk many many cites in usa are in Eu langauges, especially French and Spanish, but some German too, and most people in usa have no clue what the words mean
12:54 katsmeow-afk like Terra Haute
12:54 SquirrelCZECH :DD
12:54 katsmeow-afk or Batonrouge
12:54 katsmeow-afk etc
12:54 SquirrelCZECH and this is exactly reason why we tell a lot: "At leas we are not as stupid as americans" etc... :-)
12:55 katsmeow-afk i understand :-(
12:55 SquirrelCZECH :-)
12:55 SquirrelCZECH don't be sad
12:55 SquirrelCZECH it's just thing ... about statistic
12:55 SquirrelCZECH there is still posibility that smart americans exist
12:56 katsmeow-afk you know movies"Escape from Planet of the Apes" ?, movie where huamns cannot talk and apes can? i was at the store last night, and it was SCAREY how real life was almost like that movie !!
12:56 SquirrelCZECH :DDD
12:57 katsmeow-afk or more modern (10 years old) "Battle for Planet Earth" where humans could talk, but know nothing
12:57 katsmeow-afk i was actually scared of the humans i saw last night, it was so close to the movie
12:58 SquirrelCZECH :D
12:58 SquirrelCZECH it's funny
12:58 katsmeow-afk why? because i say these things, and i am in usa?
12:58 SquirrelCZECH not
12:59 SquirrelCZECH I just don't finished the message
12:59 SquirrelCZECH my actual... intelligence problem is that I can't understand womens how I wanted to... and if I consider that some people are sometimes so stupid that i have to laught..
13:00 katsmeow-afk in one local town here, 50% of high school students (this year) do not pass , do not graduate
13:00 tsmeow-afk is w
13:00 katsmeow-afk :-P
13:01 SquirrelCZECH :DD
13:01 katsmeow-afk so stupid they cannot find usa on map of world
13:01 tsmeow-afk wor
13:01 SquirrelCZECH so i think that you understand that it's sometimes hard for man to understand women's logic...
13:01 SquirrelCZECH wait
13:02 SquirrelCZECH on the other hand I am student too
13:02 katsmeow-afk no, i understand is hard for woman to understand man!
13:02 SquirrelCZECH and I don't know if I pass in middle school -> high school
13:02 SquirrelCZECH I don't think I am so stupid... but I am too damn lazy ...
13:02 SquirrelCZECH you reminded me a joke
13:03 katsmeow-afk many differences in culture between man and woman, the problem is: too many differences are made by culture
13:04 katsmeow-afk men are trained to understand some things and not other things, woman are trained to understand the other things, so culture is making the difference
13:04 SquirrelCZECH yep
13:04 katsmeow-afk i break the culture and do my best to understand both ways
13:04 katsmeow-afk in both ways, many things are more interesting
13:05 katsmeow-afk but, in usa, too many humans are as smart as their dogs :-(
13:06 SquirrelCZECH Slovakia just finished nuclear bomb and want to try it, so they send it somewhere in the USA to some desert.... but no response, so they send second one on NY... still nothing, so they try to send it on White House... and again no response, so Slovakia's president called to Obama and: "Hey Obama, we are just bombarding you and we got no response" Obama: "wait bitch until we can find you on the map!" :-)
13:06 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, I personally don't thing that it's about things you understand
13:06 SquirrelCZECH but just about how you understand that...
13:07 SquirrelCZECH them
13:07 katsmeow-afk heh
13:08 SquirrelCZECH but it can be different in every country :D
13:08 katsmeow-afk it's sad, except that in Bosnia war, usa did bomb Chinese embassy there
13:08 SquirrelCZECH ;DD
13:09 katsmeow-afk in Afghan war, usa did bomb Austrailia troops and Pakistan troops
13:09 SquirrelCZECH in my country I have problem that I am boy (18 years) with interest in things like electronics, pc and stuff
13:09 katsmeow-afk in Iraq war, usa even bombed usa troops
13:09 SquirrelCZECH and only thing that I can use as a theme in discussion with girls is music ...
13:09 SquirrelCZECH nothing else :-(
13:10 SquirrelCZECH or things related to history of ours... so in groups where i know them for a long time it's no problem
13:10 katsmeow-afk because in Cz culture, girls are not allowed to learn electronics
13:10 SquirrelCZECH oh
13:10 SquirrelCZECH they are allowed
13:10 SquirrelCZECH but it's just unnatural for everybody
13:10 uirrelCZECH know the word for this, but can't reme
13:10 katsmeow-afk i think if they learn electronics, other girls call them bad names
13:10 SquirrelCZECH it's typicall for us :D
13:10 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, yep
13:11 SquirrelCZECH and not even girls
13:11 SquirrelCZECH :-)
13:11 katsmeow-afk calling bad names = not allowed to learn electronics
13:11 rrywolf thinks the world needs a lot more tomboys and butch lesb
13:11 SquirrelCZECH it's maybe stereotips?
13:11 SquirrelCZECH yep
13:11 katsmeow-afk yes
13:11 SquirrelCZECH my nation cares a lot about stereotips, which is sad
13:11 SquirrelCZECH furrywolf, :DD
13:12 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, I am a boy which cares about electronics and even that mean that I am out of question in a big part of girls
13:13 SquirrelCZECH but it's maybe about the age
13:13 SquirrelCZECH only thing that majority of peoples in my age is to get drunk at Friday night
13:13 SquirrelCZECH *cares
13:14 katsmeow-afk here, i am woman, i care about electronics and computers,, and all women here do not like that
13:14 katsmeow-afk and all men here do not like that too
13:14 SquirrelCZECH yep, I know that
13:14 rrywolf likes
13:14 uirrelCZECH likes it to
13:15 katsmeow-afk so you should help other people to break steriotype like i do :-)
13:15 SquirrelCZECH but like a most of man I propably couldn't live with women which would be better in IT and stuff than me..
13:15 uirrelCZECH is ... little eg
13:15 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, it's hard to live with them like that
13:15 katsmeow-afk egoist is bad, you should learn from anyone better
13:15 katsmeow-afk why??
13:15 SquirrelCZECH and it's even harder to change someones mind
13:15 SquirrelCZECH :-)
13:16 SquirrelCZECH wait
13:16 SquirrelCZECH I don't say I can't learn from them
13:16 SquirrelCZECH I just propably can't live with them
13:16 katsmeow-afk why can you not live with your teacher, a woman better in electronics?
13:16 SquirrelCZECH my ego
13:17 SquirrelCZECH it's just the bad part of me
13:17 SquirrelCZECH everybody has one
13:17 katsmeow-afk get rid of your male ego :-|
13:17 furrywolf bleh, this trimetric meter is hard to program. it only has two buttons, and does a whole bunch of things. so you have to do sequences of holding one button for a certain length of time then quickly pressing the other before a certain time etc etc etc...
13:17 katsmeow-afk you should reprogram you to be better
13:17 SquirrelCZECH and to be honest, if I were gay.. a couldn't live with a boy better in electronics than I am
13:18 SquirrelCZECH it's not question of boy/girl
13:18 furrywolf this might be the first manual, ever, that I need to print out and bring with me to where the batteries are, as it's impossible to learn or remember it.
13:18 SquirrelCZECH :-)
13:18 SquirrelCZECH :DDD
13:18 katsmeow-afk furry, connect the two buttons to a Vic20, proram the Vic20 to do the complex parts ;-)
13:18 SquirrelCZECH furrywolf, I do that a lot
13:18 furrywolf katsmeow-afk: because that will save me a LOT of time...
13:19 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, I learned from life that you can't get rid off of bad parts of you, they are allways there and allways will be, you can only learn how to live with them, only thing you have to do is to learn them and know them
13:20 katsmeow-afk you can learn to live bypass them
13:20 SquirrelCZECH yep
13:20 furrywolf bleh, I need a 2A fuse.
13:20 SquirrelCZECH but it's not so easy :-)
13:20 katsmeow-afk live *around* them, *away* from them, not *with* them
13:20 SquirrelCZECH more or less
13:20 furrywolf http://www.altestore.com/mmsolar/others/TM2020_Instructions.pdf
13:21 katsmeow-afk furry: 32awg wirewrap wire, skin it bare, use an inch of it
13:21 furrywolf katsmeow-afk: I have a few hundred fuses... in storage. bleh.
13:21 katsmeow-afk oh
13:22 katsmeow-afk i have lost so much that was in storage, the storage evaporated, stuff was given away before i could go get it
13:23 katsmeow-afk antique Dumont scope that worked, dozens of EV bateries and motor, antique Eico power amp that worked, antique Sony spring reverb that worked, etc
13:23 furrywolf heh
13:24 katsmeow-afk the Eico was back when sterio AM radio was the next big thig, it had a "Sterio AM" on the selector
13:24 katsmeow-afk i learned a lot about vac tubes back then on that aamp
13:25 furrywolf I've done very little with tubes... I like things for their functionality, not their antiqueness...
13:25 furrywolf and despite what some people claim, solid state wins this hands-down.
13:25 katsmeow-afk it wasn't antique when i had it :-P
13:25 furrywolf ah :P
13:25 katsmeow-afk it's antique *now*
13:26 katsmeow-afk or wold be, if i still had it now
13:26 tsmeow-afk s
13:26 katsmeow-afk i have one light bulb that works, it was made in the 1920's, non-coiled filament, that's the only thing i have now that was an antique even back then
13:27 SquirrelCZECH :D
13:27 SquirrelCZECH note: katsmeow-afk sighs a lot :-)
13:28 katsmeow-afk furry, i had a sterio poweramp from a little company in Texas back then was called SWTP, is now known as Tiger Distributing(?)
13:28 tsmeow-afk sighs a
13:28 furrywolf SquirrelCZECH: kat lives in a miserable part of the planet surrounded by idiots.
13:29 SquirrelCZECH I know that
13:29 SquirrelCZECH but it's weird
13:29 SquirrelCZECH she should feel really smart then :D
13:31 katsmeow-afk smart, but lonely
13:32 SquirrelCZECH yep :-)
13:32 katsmeow-afk culture here says : women should be stupid and ignorant friendly, else be lonely
13:32 SquirrelCZECH ;DD
13:32 rrywolf points out katsmeow-afk still has a lapwolfy on her, so can't be too lon
13:32 uirrelCZECH rememebred I thing from excursion into "Dresden" in Ger
13:33 katsmeow-afk i will be smart and make things, read about things, on Friday night, and not be drunk, and humans do not like that
13:33 SquirrelCZECH only good-loking womens were near the bus from our country, or some other excursions
13:33 SquirrelCZECH hmm
13:33 SquirrelCZECH world is stupid
13:33 uirrelCZECH sometimes feel like only one that is tollerant to what peopl
13:33 katsmeow-afk oh, you only want to be around good-looking womane, not smart women?
13:34 SquirrelCZECH I don't care about both
13:34 SquirrelCZECH :D
13:34 tsmeow-afk pets the furry
13:34 furrywolf mrrf :)
13:34 SquirrelCZECH point is that like almost everyman I like to watch goodloking womens :-)
13:34 uirrelCZECH just want girl which is
13:34 furrywolf SquirrelCZECH: how about women who are good with a strapon?
13:35 SquirrelCZECH strapon?
13:35 katsmeow-afk you have male biology to make you be programmed to do that, you need to get intelligent control of yourself
13:35 SquirrelCZECH why I should? :D
13:35 SquirrelCZECH it's not bad thing to watch nice womens
13:35 SquirrelCZECH :D
13:35 tsmeow-afk s
13:35 katsmeow-afk ok, nevermind
13:35 katsmeow-afk is not bad thing to watch, but waste of time
13:35 SquirrelCZECH but i would never judge a woman by her look
13:36 SquirrelCZECH yep
13:36 SquirrelCZECH it is
13:36 SquirrelCZECH wait
13:36 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, nope, it isn't
13:36 SquirrelCZECH you can't live without relax
13:36 SquirrelCZECH :-)
13:36 SquirrelCZECH sometimes you need to waste a time
13:36 katsmeow-afk relax otehr ways, many woman do not like you watching
13:36 SquirrelCZECH hmm
13:36 SquirrelCZECH we made a experiment on one saturday
13:37 SquirrelCZECH there were a group girls
13:37 furrywolf hrmm, I have a free sandwich coupon... do I want to attempt to make food with what I have around the house, or go get a sandwich?
13:37 katsmeow-afk women are other humans, if you watch a lot, they wonder what is wrong with you
13:37 katsmeow-afk furry, make food at home, use coupon only if you are already in town, saves gas that way
13:37 SquirrelCZECH they were walking normally, but when they noticed that another group of guys is watching, they started to walk "like a woman"
13:38 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, I think you misunderstand that sentence of mine
13:38 furrywolf katsmeow-afk: well, I have some other errands to run too... there's a yard sale with a r/o system advertised, want to stop by and take a look at it...
13:38 SquirrelCZECH I don't mean that I am watching a lot
13:38 katsmeow-afk "walk like a woman" <<==GREAT reason to break steriotype
13:38 SquirrelCZECH but I just like to look...
13:38 furrywolf and need another carton of ladybugs, as the aphids are coming back.
13:38 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, just try to thing why I wrote "" there
13:38 SquirrelCZECH :-)
13:38 katsmeow-afk furry, got to wonder why they'd sell a *working* ro system
13:39 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, the reason is simple, I just don't know how to call it in different way
13:39 furrywolf katsmeow-afk: moving, using it for an aquarium they no longer want, needs filters and they're too cheap to get them, came with the house and they don't want it, needed under-sink space,...
13:39 katsmeow-afk if the ro system works, they'd haveto make effort to remove it, americans are lazy, they'd need a reason to remove and get rid of it
13:40 katsmeow-afk ok
13:40 furrywolf using it for their hydroponics, and decided to go with soil this year...
13:40 katsmeow-afk if it was run minus filter, cannot blame me if it is contaminated or leaky :-)
13:41 furrywolf I already have three of them, with an average purchase price of $10... I'm starting to accumulate a good collection of RO parts. still don't have all the ones I need, so still need to find more. :)
13:41 tsmeow-afk notes furrywolf understands other humans better than she
13:42 furrywolf I'm still debating if there's some way I can RO the entire kitchen... the hard part would be hot water.
13:42 furrywolf I have a freshwater tank out of an RV, a spare bladder tank, and a spare shurflo pump... cold r/o water would be easy. but heating it requires building a heat exchanger.
13:43 katsmeow-afk ro the cold feed to an undersink heater, but you need a check valve in the cpvc/copper/iron so hot water doesn't feed back to the plastic ro stuff
13:43 furrywolf undersink heaters require energy input
13:43 katsmeow-afk undersink heater can be your heat exchanger unit :-P
13:43 SquirrelCZECH ah
13:43 SquirrelCZECH afk
13:44 furrywolf that would require long lines to the hot water tank and a circulator pump
13:44 katsmeow-afk nice talking to you, SquirrelCZECH
13:44 katsmeow-afk furrywolf, you'd raher do that run anyhow to get only hot water?
13:44 SquirrelCZECH katsmeow-afk, thanks :-)
13:45 furrywolf I was thinking some type of heat exchanger plumbed between the drain and safety valve ports on the tank, that would circulate with convection, and not need a pump. :)
13:45 katsmeow-afk convection = heat difference, heat differnce = losing heat from some part of the system, losing heat = waste
13:45 furrywolf losing heat by moving it into the ro water.
13:46 furrywolf the whole thing would be wrapped in insulation. when I used ro water, it'd cool the loop, which would then convect.
13:46 katsmeow-afk not enough ro water flow to move enough hot water when you need it
13:46 furrywolf it'd be screwed right to the side of the tank with 3/4" pipe...
13:47 katsmeow-afk i tried thermal convection on a single level , doesn't work well, only works if you're right above the heat source and don't mind wasting heat to cool that which you spent energy heating before
13:47 furrywolf the tank is a standard propane water heater, with a drain valve port at the bottom and a temperature and pressure safety valve port at the top. if I put a heat exchanger between these two, heavily insulated, it should convect hot water into it as the heat is removed...
13:48 katsmeow-afk plus, i knew someone with 50ft of line tween the water heater set at 160F, and the kitchen sink, they never had hot water at the sink
13:48 furrywolf heh
13:48 furrywolf insulation!
13:49 furrywolf and they probably used too large of pipe.
13:49 furrywolf I'll be using 1/2" CPVC, which is only 7/16 or so (at a guess) ID.
13:49 katsmeow-afk you still haveto dump all the cooled "hot water" in thelines every time you want real hot water, which means you're dumping ro water
13:50 furrywolf yes
13:50 furrywolf but a circulation system would waste much more energy
13:50 katsmeow-afk these epople also used copper lines, which had to be heated up by the water, a massive heat sink
13:50 katsmeow-afk not if you powered the pump only when you used the hot water
13:51 katsmeow-afk if the hot water is shot tot he sink via plumbing loop so fast it has no time to cool, you have hot water and no pump runing all the time
13:52 katsmeow-afk and no plumbing leaking heat into the house in summer
13:52 furrywolf but pumps are expensive and a lot of work. heh.
13:52 katsmeow-afk $30 circulating pump
13:53 tsmeow-afk give
13:53 SquirrelCZECH you two looks like a smart peoples
13:53 furrywolf 1/2 cpvc is .46" ID, so not too much volume in it...
13:53 furrywolf $30?! add another zero.
13:53 katsmeow-afk technically, if you have a check valve in the loop, you need run the pump only till the first hot water hits the sink
13:54 furrywolf as long as you don't need much hot water...
13:54 SquirrelCZECH https://picasaweb.google.com/111764666623865850399/LeverakTheSilentSquirrel my little project, homemade pc case for "home server" :-)
13:54 SquirrelCZECH it's from older photo to newer
13:54 furrywolf I might also just skip r/o water to the whole kitchen, and just have a little tap in the sink like normal people.
13:54 furrywolf and assume non-ro water is adequate for washing dishes.
13:55 SquirrelCZECH it's still far away from something like finished
13:56 SquirrelCZECH so there are a lots of things to do

14:03 katsmeow-afk bbl
14:03 furrywolf I mean, if I used an undersink heater.
14:04 furrywolf ouch. why the heck are 24v heater elements $50 instead of $5 like 110v ones?
14:08 furrywolf ok, 12v or 24v water heaters are out of the question. they cost way, way more than a regular 110v one, an inverter, and extra panels.
14:19 furrywolf bleh, according to bosch's instant water heater chart, to get 110F water at 1gpm, I need to order the 9.5kw heater. so that rules out any tankless/instant option.

15:06 furrywolf and one of them had + and - labeled backwards!

17:58 ablegreen does anyone know how the vacuum gripper on this robot is able to pick up objects without a smooth surface without losing suction?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8unkXTtfEBQ

18:07 furrywolf I need to linuxcnc/emc-ify my mill.
18:07 furrywolf flashcut makes me want to kill it every time I use it.
18:12 rue_mohr 'm trying to understand why linuxcnc cant operate reprap hardware
18:13 Tom_itx it can
18:14 Tom_itx and yes i use it
18:14 rue_mohr maybe I should convert my old machine
18:14 rue_mohr take it in steps
18:14 Tom_itx most of the reprap guys use standalone controllers though i believe
18:15 Tom_itx linuxcnc is very configurable
18:15 Tom_itx VERY
18:15 rue_mohr yea I dont like the idea of a m32 trying to interpert g-code and run steppers

18:15 Tom_itx mb
18:15 rue_mohr but speed?
18:16 Tom_itx speed is not the issue
18:16 rue_mohr ok
18:16 Tom_itx latency is the issue
18:16 Tom_itx run the live cd and test for low latency
18:16 Tom_itx some fast pc's with shitty graphic cards get horrible results
18:16 rue_mohr I'll make up some dir/step controllers for the motor first
18:16 Tom_itx you can use the parport if you want
18:16 rue_mohr I can put a rippin card on a board
18:16 rue_mohr yea
18:16 Tom_itx but if you want more io i'd get a card for it

18:23 Tom_itx also 2.5 linuxcnc was just recently released and works good
18:23 Tom_itx it has a builtin gcode thing for making simple shapes and combining them to build a gcode program
18:23 Tom_itx by using snippits you make

19:54 Tom_itx the shit rises to the top
19:54 Tom_itx you should have some chems to add to purify it
19:59 furrywolf blah, I forgot how fucking worthless linuxcnc's user manual is... paragraphs that just end in the middle, links to knowhere, etc.
19:59 furrywolf nowhere
20:00 Tom_itx what are you looking at?
20:01 Tom_itx http://www.linuxcnc.org/docview/html/
20:01 furrywolf http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.1/html/config/stepper/index.html
20:02 Tom_itx look over the new docs
20:02 furrywolf which says no longer maintained, yet new stuff links back into it.
20:02 Tom_itx http://www.linuxcnc.org/docview/html/motion/tweaking_steppers.html
20:03 Tom_itx there have been issues due to emc complaining about copywright infringement so they had to rename it to linuxcnc causing problems with links
20:03 furrywolf isn't emc nist, thus government, and thus entirely public domain no matter how much they bitch?
20:04 Tom_itx http://www.emc.com/index.htm?fromGlobalSiteSelect
20:04 Tom_itx that emc
20:05 furrywolf that emc is completely unrelated to the emc nc controller
20:05 Tom_itx yes but they were bitching about the name
20:05 Tom_itx so they renamed it to linuxcnc
20:05 Tom_itx which caused alot of link problems
20:05 furrywolf tell them to bitch at nist.gov, as they were the ones who wrote emc.
20:06 Tom_itx i'm not going to tell them anything
20:07 Tom_itx for the most part the current ver is up to date on the docs
20:07 Tom_itx which i linked you to
20:09 furrywolf "Rather then fight, the name will be changed." ignoring grammar issues, sounds like they didn't even try. yay for corporations and a legal system so screwed up that people won't even try.
20:24 furrywolf found a mailling list thread on it... of course everyone disagrees, but apparantly there's a board that gets to make these decisions and doesn't have to care what the regular devs and general public think.
20:26 Tom_itx they had the new ver ready to release so it wasn't that much of an issue
20:27 Tom_itx the website was already linuxcnc anyway
20:28 furrywolf meh. I don't like associating it with linux, despite that being the most common OS it ran on. it's not part of linux, it's not linux specific,...
20:28 furrywolf it makes it look like a joke to serious business people
20:29 Tom_itx you're the first one i've really heard complain about it

21:10 furrywolf somehow I've never wanted to make squiggly plastic parts.
21:11 Tom_itx rue_shop, what for?
21:11 Tom_itx reprap hasn't struck my interest just yet

21:14 furrywolf they already have those. you just have to run them in the basement and make sure other people spend it.
21:33 katsmeow-afk added 8 more pics to bottom of http://designerthinking.com/pancake.html
21:34 katsmeow-afk boring but necessary work
21:38 rue_mohr now you have me excessivly cnfused
21:39 Tom_itx maybe she's wrapping the wire around the disk instead of on each side
21:41 Tom_itx the rotor will fit inside the shell when done
21:41 furrywolf hrmm. I'd need to think about whether the alternating direction of the wire in each side of the squiggle was the right idea or not...
21:41 katsmeow-afk Tom, correct
21:43 katsmeow-afk which part is the squiggle, furry?
21:43 furrywolf the non-coiled coil.
21:43 Tom_itx my concern still is the buildup of wire where the phases will overlap
21:43 Tom_itx 6 layers
21:44 katsmeow-afk Tom, at the magnets the math tells me the phases will lay beside each other
21:44 katsmeow-afk 6 side by side, 2 layers
21:44 Tom_itx yes i know that, it's the ends i wonder about
21:44 katsmeow-afk they will bunch up
21:44 Tom_itx i will wait to see the final
21:45 Tom_itx keep up the good work
21:45 katsmeow-afk i'd like to see it too :-)
21:45 katsmeow-afk i may need to make a different linear form for the 2nd layer
21:46 furrywolf what's the stall current of that motor going to be? heh
21:46 furrywolf the inrush with the non-coiled-coils seems painful...
21:46 katsmeow-afk damned high, furry
21:47 katsmeow-afk current limit to 8amps per wire for any length of time, there's 4 wraps of wire per phase, 3 phases (preferred design) , or
21:47 katsmeow-afk there's 2 wraps of wire per phase, 6 phases
21:48 katsmeow-afk 6 phases will make for microstepping, but i think will be too pricey to drive
21:48 katsmeow-afk 3 bipolar phases is enough
21:49 katsmeow-afk you can arrange each phase's wire to be series, series-parallel, or all in parallel , i dunno what the motor will act like yet
21:49 katsmeow-afk the aim was max power at as low a voltage as possible, like 6v to 7v, typical RC battery packs
21:50 furrywolf it's an interesting design... feels like it needs a lot more wire, but maybe it'll be driven like a smps with a low winding voltage but high current...
21:50 katsmeow-afk with mosfets like the IRF1404 and IRFZ44 , voltage and current drop thru the mosfet don't matter
21:51 furrywolf are you going to drive them constantly on, or pulse them to maintain a given winding current?
21:52 katsmeow-afk that sorta depends on the machine they are in
21:52 furrywolf it just looks like it'll pull insta-fry amps if they're on for more than a few us...
21:52 furrywolf what's the dc resistance of each winding? heh
21:53 katsmeow-afk then pwm them faster
21:53 katsmeow-afk didn't measure it yet
21:53 furrywolf well, what's the gauge and length? heh
21:55 furrywolf with the very low inductance, it should be a very fast motor...
21:57 katsmeow-afk somewhere around .1 ohms
21:57 katsmeow-afk i also did not measure the length, but it's 18awg
21:58 furrywolf since it's a squiggle instead of a coil, the inductance will be near-nil, and since they're not very long, the dc resistance will be near-nil too... you're going to need to drive it very, very fast.
21:58 furrywolf the inductance is low enough it'll approach the resistance-given current rather quickly.
21:58 katsmeow-afk ~60 inches
21:59 katsmeow-afk 4 windings of one phase will be 240 inches
21:59 katsmeow-afk 1.6 ohms
22:00 katsmeow-afk that sounds high, actually
22:00 furrywolf so figure 75A off a standard r/c car pack, in a fraction of a ms.
22:00 furrywolf I get .127 ohms
22:00 katsmeow-afk 7v / 1.6 ohms = 4.375 amps
22:00 furrywolf You have: 6.385 ohms / 1000ft
22:00 furrywolf You want: ohms / 240in
22:00 furrywolf * 0.1277
22:01 katsmeow-afk 18awg is 6.4 ohms/, oops,
22:02 furrywolf I just want to make sure you're prepared to drive something that's very similar to a dead short. :)
22:03 katsmeow-afk well, since i will be bringing out each winding, and there's 12 windings, it could be run as 2 phase once it's turning, and one phase off between them
22:03 katsmeow-afk it's a prototype, it's supposed to be versatile and discover things
22:05 katsmeow-afk so what if its driven in a star config, where each winding sees 3v off a 6v battery, 23amps? or 8amps at 30% duty cycle?
22:06 furrywolf as long as you use very fast fets, you can drive it however you want...
22:06 rue_shop I'm getting a rediculous amount of aluminum bars piled up
22:06 furrywolf the windings just have very, very low inductance, since they're squiggles rather than coils.
22:06 furrywolf so will reach full current very quickly.
22:07 rue_shop furrywolf, its just distributed differenelty
22:07 katsmeow-afk acceleration was a prime factor
22:08 katsmeow-afk i do not know the magnets' parameters, but i expect they will be the limiting factor
22:08 rue_shop rue bc bearing
22:08 rue_shop 7R12
22:09 katsmeow-afk 75amps at 7v for even a fraction of a sec is over a hp
22:09 katsmeow-afk per winding
22:10 katsmeow-afk if the magnets aren't forced to reverse polarity, this things should take off like a bat outa hell
22:10 katsmeow-afk in other words, the robot should hop off the ground
22:11 Tom_itx or the shaft will shear
22:13 furrywolf or the magnets will be ripped out of the rotor, jam to the windings, and stop with a loud crunch. been there, done that. :)
22:13 katsmeow-afk if it all holds, and the magnet flux does not collapse at the magnets, the rotor might bend, worst case
22:13 katsmeow-afk i just dunno yet
22:14 Tom_itx something to play with
22:14 furrywolf start slowly, so you have time to play with it before it breaks.
22:21 katsmeow-afk should i stop now to save your time saying "i told you so" ? because the point is to make something in a non-normal way, to find out if it can be done, and how well it works this way
22:22 katsmeow-afk you do not know if it will work or it's parameters
22:22 katsmeow-afk neither do i
22:22 katsmeow-afk but i can find out
22:24 katsmeow-afk or can quit and just say it can't be done, even tho no one knows that
22:25 Tom_itx see it to the end
22:25 Tom_itx i got time invested in it
22:25 Tom_itx and want to see you finish it
22:25 Tom_itx now i sleep
22:27 katsmeow-afk ok
22:32 furrywolf I don't think it won't work - I just think you might fry a few FETs if you're not careful. :)
22:33 furrywolf I haven't looked at how the phases line up with the magnets, but I assume you got that figured out before starting.
22:35 katsmeow-afk one pass down, one pass up, each winding, each magnet
22:35 katsmeow-afk 4 windings per phase, 3 phases
22:37 furrywolf so there's the same number of winding passes as magnets?, then the three phases offset? should work simply enough.
22:39 katsmeow-afk furry, see http://designerthinking.com/images/pancake/IMG_1766m.jpg
22:39 katsmeow-afk imagine a magnet in each hole, and another wire on the top side
22:41 katsmeow-afk the next winding for that phase will lay next to that wire, 2 degrees further around
22:41 katsmeow-afk then the next wire, anotehr 2 degrees, will be a winding for the next phase
22:42 katsmeow-afk i lay down 6 wires side by side, 2 for each phase, and secure them
22:42 katsmeow-afk then i start over, anotehr 6 on top of that layer, same layout
22:43 katsmeow-afk 2 wires in each layer, wire all 4 wires for each phase in series, that gives me 3 phases, with is pretty ideal, or 6 if i wanna optomise the heck outa it by useing lots of mosfets to drive it
22:45 katsmeow-afk i do not know if the pass over the outside of the rotor so close will cause problems or not
22:46 furrywolf unequal distances between the phases and the magnets might cause oddness... I guess for a production one, you could make some fancier winding jig where the order switched every time.
22:49 rrywolf contacts sherline about upgrading to a larger Y travel se
22:49 katsmeow-afk why is there an unequalness? where?
22:50 katsmeow-afk all the windings will be identical, wound on the same jig, and be laid side by side at the magnet radius
22:50 katsmeow-afk i see no unequalness
22:51 furrywolf they're going to have to overlap and won't sit flat, no?
22:51 furrywolf the last phase put on would start two wire thicknesses above the first one.
22:55 katsmeow-afk not the way i described it
22:55 furrywolf hrmm
22:56 katsmeow-afk this is why *I* think of this stuff that no one else does,, and you see how no one understands me, altho Tom has a grasp on this motor design
22:57 katsmeow-afk drat it, i lost the calipers
22:57 furrywolf I just don't see how you're putting two windings next to each other without them crossing over at the top and bottom edges
23:02 furrywolf bbl, spent too much of today being a sweaty wolfy, time for a shower and being a fluffy clean wolfy again
23:59 ace4016 wolves don't swear; they pant :P
