00:07 rue_mohr heh
00:08 katsmeow-afk "we don't need you to do that" != "we need you to not do that"
00:08 rue_mohr some people on youtube just put up playlists of other peoples videos...

00:29 rue_mohr so when my oxygen tank runs out I'm thinking of getting shield gas for tig
00:29 rue_mohr and maybe buying a bottle as I go thru less gas than I do leasing fee's
00:30 katsmeow-afk you can have as many tanks as you want, you can have an O2 tank and an argon mix tank
00:30 katsmeow-afk and different sizes
00:30 rue_mohr yes but $$$
00:31 rue_mohr I have to find out what a tank costs, the gas supplier just said "no" when I asked
00:31 katsmeow-afk no to selling you one, or no to getting shield gas?
00:31 rue_mohr I go thru about 3 oxy bottles every 2 years
00:31 rue_mohr no to buying a tank
00:32 katsmeow-afk my use varies, sometimes it's a tank per year, then one weekend i went thru 4 tanks
00:32 rue_mohr sounds like a good weekend
00:32 katsmeow-afk it was *HOT*
00:32 rue_mohr I'm getting in the habbit of cutting with welding sticks, it seems to be cheaper than cutting disks or oxygen
00:33 rue_mohr 1/8" dosn't last long at 70A
00:33 rue_mohr plate
00:33 katsmeow-afk 1/4 does
00:33 rue_mohr arg, I was at the aggratates mine today helping diagnose a fiber optic issue, I'm picking sand out of places...
00:34 rue_mohr yea, I wouldn't try to cut 1/4" plate with a stick welder
00:34 katsmeow-afk problem with any cutting, specially arc cutting, is the slag and grinder cleanup,, i found it was *much* faster and cost as much to have someone with a cnc plasma torch cut the rest of what iw as going to do
00:34 rue_mohr ever used a oxygen lance? I think they might be illegal up there
00:35 katsmeow-afk never used them, seen pics
00:35 rue_mohr one of my buddies got one, he says "wow"
00:35 rue_mohr er some
00:53 rue_mohr http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_VwHdIETcyyI/Rfcra8iUonI/AAAAAAAAADI/FY2BabtHPmY/s1600/kitty_crit_mass.jpg
00:58 katsmeow-afk wwooahhh
00:58 rue_mohr hahah I tought you might like that
00:58 katsmeow-afk wow
00:58 katsmeow-afk that's great
00:59 rue_mohr it says there are 23M people online with skype,
00:59 katsmeow-afk lets see anyone get an Aibo to do that :-P
00:59 rue_mohr of that there are only about 40 females between 33 and 39
00:59 rue_mohr of that only 4 are in canada
00:59 rue_mohr of that only one is in west canada
01:00 rue_mohr *with skypeme turned on
01:00 rue_mohr of the 4, none answer
01:00 katsmeow-afk if 22,999,960 males were pursuing you, would you be available?
01:01 rue_mohr agreed, but...
01:02 katsmeow-afk Canadia is a sparsely populated country, you hardly use the northern 3/4 of it, if you want population then you need to check out the usa too
01:02 katsmeow-afk down here, the morons breed like rabbits
01:03 moriarty down where?
01:03 katsmeow-afk usa
01:03 moriarty populating the earth is good and should be encouraged, canada's too lonely and sparse
01:03 moriarty they have cities that don't even connect to each other, with roads protruding out of towns that eventually stop in the middle of nowhere
01:04 katsmeow-afk i am fond of the theory that if one is on public assistance, then one cannot afford to get pregnant, and therefore shouldn't be, that one theory would cut a lot of the population increase
01:05 moriarty true
01:05 katsmeow-afk i have known humans who said their child assistance is being cut off because the kid grew up, so they go out and get pregant again
01:05 moriarty it's interesting how these people can live with themselves
01:05 katsmeow-afk psychopaths , they cannot see the problem and/or do not care
01:06 moriarty but that aside, it seems the system is broken in that if people are desperate enough to resort to that, then perhaps more wealth should be made available for those who are unable to support themselves financially without having to procreate
01:06 katsmeow-afk i agree
01:06 rue_mohr I dont want a relationship with a moron tho
01:07 rue_mohr http://www.dansworkshop.com/2008/03/pouring-a-sand-casting/
01:08 katsmeow-afk altho i also subscribe to the theory that if the retail cost of everything is cut 90% and so is the cost to make and sell the items, then some people will stop working at a certain "got enough" level, and the companies will haveto hire otehrs to replace them, leading to 100% employment
01:08 rue_mohr you know what I think he made the cope and drag from?
01:08 rue_mohr steel studs!
01:08 katsmeow-afk dansworkshop bothers me, there's just enough done wrong to get someone into trouble
01:09 rue_mohr handling a flask like that I'm surprised he's still standing on both legs
01:09 katsmeow-afk like that pouring demo, bits of 2x4 all over the floor to stumble on while carrying molten alumium, and looking right down the hole so a steam explosion will rip his face off, etc
01:09 rue_mohr really easy to drop it holding it like that, AND its heavy
01:10 katsmeow-afk yep, that pic
01:10 rue_mohr and he has to be cooking being that close
01:10 katsmeow-afk and shoes such that molten metals will sink right thru them into his foot
01:10 rue_mohr my jig keeps atleast 2 feet between the user and the pot
01:11 katsmeow-afk he's wearing a $40 shirt to pour metal in, he doesn't care
01:11 rue_mohr yea thats funny too
01:11 rue_mohr pouring alum in a tux
01:12 katsmeow-afk carrying a crucible with slipjoint pliers in the next pic?!?
01:12 rue_mohr yea
01:12 rue_mohr scarry eh?
01:12 GuShH as long as theres no water involved, you don't really need much gear at all.
01:12 rue_mohr those pliers slip easy carrying something like that
01:12 rue_mohr I wouln't do it with water no less molten alum
01:12 GuShH the only 100% safe way of doing it is to utilize a robotic arm, so don't be silly if you've never poured molten metal.
01:12 katsmeow-afk holding his hands over the alum as he is pouring it, from 4 inches away? his paws have got to be burning, even with those thin golf gloves on
01:13 rue_mohr I built/use a 2 person pouring bar
01:13 katsmeow-afk everything he does has a significant safety error in it
01:15 rue_mohr http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gc6dcy3IAWA/SBaXCIbYzGI/AAAAAAAAAKs/YDJjBZBYsZA/s320/DSCN1744.JPG
01:15 rue_mohr like that
01:15 katsmeow-afk yeas, and mold is sat in a overflow sand containment trash can
01:16 katsmeow-afk that dan guy even has his mold sat on a plank of 1x10 board in one pic
01:16 rue_mohr http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gc6dcy3IAWA/SBaVcYbYzFI/AAAAAAAAAKk/x4OjlzDODww/s1600-h/DSCN1740.JPG
01:16 rue_mohr mine dosn't have the nifty top clamp tho, I like that idea
01:17 katsmeow-afk why can't i browse blogspot?
01:17 rue_mohr http://etsymetal.blogspot.ca/2009_06_01_archive.html
01:17 rue_mohr good stuff in last thrird
01:18 rue_mohr I have two wings on my crucible that are used to hang it in the furnace and to pluck it out
01:18 rue_mohr http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gc6dcy3IAWA/SBaYVIbYzII/AAAAAAAAAK8/g_pmkVo3mDg/s320/DSCN1763.JPG
01:19 rue_mohr bit crowded
01:19 katsmeow-afk i got two puters saturating my dsl, i don't have the first pic yet
01:19 rue_mohr I think these people are using mugs with the bottom knocked out for pouring funnels....
01:20 rue_mohr those folks have the complete and proper safety gear tho
01:21 rue_mohr hmm trash cans...
01:21 rue_mohr I need small metal trash cans
01:23 katsmeow-afk yeas
01:24 katsmeow-afk keeps overflow contained, but put sand in them, so the bottoms don't get so hot they set anything under them on fire
01:24 rue_mohr I dont think the lawn will ever fully recover
01:24 mumptai or just dig hole in ground?
01:25 katsmeow-afk do not want to dry a root and set it on fire
01:25 mumptai .. and move to a desert
01:26 katsmeow-afk i set buried wood on fire once, while interesting, it was also hard to put out, and cld have escaped anywhere and caused a fire on surface of ground
01:27 katsmeow-afk it was odd looking, because i had bare dirt showing, but smoke was coming out of the ground
01:28 katsmeow-afk when highwas was being widened here, they set fires to get rid of trees, and set a small coal seam in the ground on fire, took weeks to put it out, it was bare dirt, with smoke coming out
01:28 mumptai mhmm, reminds me of those underground coal fires
01:29 katsmeow-afk guy in town buried car tires, and they caught fire , burned for weeks, really bad smoke too
01:30 katsmeow-afk data miners are bogging each other down, one that should have popped up and taken a minute is taking 5 minutes so far
01:30 katsmeow-afk 5:48 ago
01:31 mumptai yeah, they mine data, not burning car tires, what do you expect ;)
01:31 katsmeow-afk i hate it when a puter smokes
01:33 katsmeow-afk one miner is downloading why one uses access floor panels, and how to use them,, stuff like this i couldn't spend enough time at the keybd to list out what to data mine
01:33 rue_mohr gnight
01:34 katsmeow-afk gnite rue
01:34 katsmeow-afk i should go do things irl
01:34 katsmeow-afk i think i cannot sleep, ut i should do things
06:18 elektrinis hello
06:19 elektrinis Anyone has a CNC mill?
06:21 elektrinis do you have suggestions how to accuratelly position the part for modification on cnc table?
06:22 elektrinis for example I have a complex part and need to accurately mill-off some portion of it
06:59 sw0rdfish hello, kids.
07:08 Steffanx Hello Grandpa
07:30 Tom_itx Steffanx you related to sw0rdfish???
07:30 Steffanx No, not at all
07:30 Steffanx (i think)
07:31 Tom_itx elektrinis reposition it accurately
07:31 Steffanx I have no living grandpas
07:31 Tom_itx but... but..
07:31 Tom_itx you said...
07:32 Steffanx Yeah, but it said it because he said "Hello, kids" :)
07:33 sw0rdfish :D
07:33 Steffanx *it = I
07:50 katsmeow-afk well, here's a turn on the ole trick of putting ruffies in the girl's drink : http://www.abcnews.go.com/Health/Wellness/zoloft-twinkie-debatable-defenses/print?id=16377016
08:07 Tom_itx 2 prior violent careers...
08:08 tsmeow-afk
08:08 Tom_itx some of the ones that like to 'protect and serve' need the rush
08:10 katsmeow-afk i just thought it interesting that instead of dosing her unconcious, he dosed himself
08:21 Tom_itx oh shiz i nearly forgot
08:22 katsmeow-afk the 0x55531367 is prolly dynamic too
08:23 Tom_itx hasn't changed the last few times i checked over a year period
08:23 katsmeow-afk k
08:23 m_itx pats katsmeow-afk on the
08:24 tsmeow-afk makes purring so
08:26 Steffanx I guess that's our friend DanFrederiksen?
08:26 Tom_itx huh!?
08:26 Steffanx Not?
08:27 katsmeow-afk can it be so??
08:29 katsmeow-afk Tom, i spent half the nite trying to find the stuff in moving boxes to resume work on http://designerthinking.com/benchpsu.html so i can power up the motor rotor
08:29 katsmeow-afk even finding the soldering iron took some doing
08:30 Tom_itx i remember that pic
08:30 katsmeow-afk i unsoldered all the diode packs so i could lower the heatsinks they are on, and mount 6 fuses above them, so if the diodes or psu caps short the transformer won't melt
08:30 Tom_itx or is that a new one?
08:31 katsmeow-afk same one from early last yr
08:31 Tom_itx i don't feel so bad using so many caps now
08:31 katsmeow-afk heh
08:32 katsmeow-afk i still think the box turned out nice, only part i don't like is the top bolts down from outside, it looks like a top on a box
08:33 katsmeow-afk if i was doing it all over, i might mount all the parts on the top, and call it the bottom, problem is i cannot do that how with the front panel made the way it is
08:34 katsmeow-afk and since i took a week to make the front panel, not going to change it much now
08:34 Tom_itx microwave psu?
08:34 Tom_itx xfrmr
08:34 katsmeow-afk yeas, the smallest version i have
08:35 katsmeow-afk just fits in the standard 3.whatever rackmount size, 350w, maybe 400w
08:35 katsmeow-afk i am fusing each secondary at 8amp slow blow
08:36 Tom_itx that was another quesiton i had... how big a ac fuse to use on mine
08:36 katsmeow-afk each psu is current limited at 3a - 5a , but i'll test it a lot and decide how it handles the heat before i hard-limit it
08:37 katsmeow-afk i used a 5amp breaker
08:39 katsmeow-afk 5 is maybe a lil high for a continuous pull, but it's mostly for if all psus pull 7.5amps all at once for some time, which would mean all the pass transistsors shorted
08:39 Tom_itx i don't really know how to figure that stuff
08:39 Tom_itx but i won't be pulling alot from mine
08:39 katsmeow-afk i put 6 windings on the xfmr, and two are 14awg for high current on two of the psus
08:39 Tom_itx at least not for a long time
08:40 katsmeow-afk the other 4 are 18awg
08:40 Tom_itx i gotta go here in a bit
08:41 katsmeow-afk basically, it shold be fine delivering 8amps on all 6psu, but i can't imagine why i'd do that, and it will get real hot if i do
08:41 Tom_itx what's it for?
08:42 katsmeow-afk ahh, you didn't see the front panel cause it's not linked in the html yet
08:42 Tom_itx i may have, i don't remember
08:42 katsmeow-afk getting url....;
08:42 katsmeow-afk http://designerthinking.com/images/benchpsu/DSCF2018.jpg
08:43 katsmeow-afk course, all the holes are drilled now
08:43 katsmeow-afk and files square
08:43 katsmeow-afk http://designerthinking.com/images/benchpsu/DSCF2020.jpg
08:44 Tom_itx i should get ready now
08:44 Tom_itx later
08:44 katsmeow-afk i believe where i have the toggle switches laying, i will instead put in a jack, for remote power adjustments
08:44 katsmeow-afk ok
08:48 katsmeow-afk the psu is for all things that need power, all 6 will be floating so i can use them for + or - pwr, 2@15v , 2@7v , 2@5v ,,
08:48 katsmeow-afk so i can turn the 15 down to 12v or 13.6v or 9v or 6v or 5.2v or etc
08:48 katsmeow-afk so i can turn the 7v down to 5.2v or 5v or 3.6v or 3.3v or etc
08:49 katsmeow-afk so i can turn the 5v down to ,,well, 5v, or 3.6v or 3.3v or 2.5v or 1.8v or etc
08:50 katsmeow-afk but i can also un the 2 15v at 7v and use one 7v, and the feedback input jacks, to make 3phase stepper power
08:50 katsmeow-afk and still have a 7v, and two 5v to use
08:52 katsmeow-afk if it all works perfectly, i may paint the front panel white, just so it really stands out, and so will it's lights
08:53 katsmeow-afk it's gotta look better than http://designerthinking.com/variac-rack.html
10:33 rue_mohr using sme techtronic parts on the power supply :)
11:04 rrywolf stretches out on kat's lap and y
11:09 rue_mohr I discovered soemthing today
11:10 furrywolf does it involve being cute and fluffy?
11:10 rue_mohr you know that engineering thing I was talking about how you design something for what its not to do instead of what its to do?
11:10 rue_mohr well, I found one example of something that was designed that way, and it taught me how its done
11:12 rue_mohr now I just need something to apply it to
11:15 furrywolf why do people post garage sale ads on craigslist without saying which city they're in? 500 G st. there's at least three local cities with a 500 G st.
11:16 rue_mohr its in the listing catagory
11:17 furrywolf no, it's not.
11:17 furrywolf maybe in the bay area you get a craigslist per city. here we get a craigslist that covers four counties. :)
11:18 rue_mohr aaah
11:18 rue_mohr canada is different
11:19 rue_mohr I need to work out casting sand
11:19 furrywolf actually, thinking about it, there's a fourth 500Gst a county away, that's also on this craigslist.
11:32 rue_mohr it seems that if you take a random chaotic system that is possable, by any odds, of performing a purpose and wrap a corrective feedback loop around it that you can make it do only that thing
11:33 SolarNRG GEAR MADNESS: http://i.imgur.com/OC5Hi.jpg
11:35 rue_mohr you making resin gears now?
11:37 rizlah What are you doing with those gears?
11:37 rue_mohr he's making a gigantic solar collector for melting tungsten
11:37 rizlah Think it'll work?
11:38 rue_mohr he's being productive, I have no comments
11:39 rue_mohr well the world got quiet all the sudden
11:40 rizlah how so?
11:40 rue_mohr its like everyone isn't sayin much
11:42 rue_mohr ok hmm wha do we have with robotics today...
11:44 SolarNRG RUE BABY YEAH! MELTING TUNGSTEN!!!!
11:44 SolarNRG You think 6m big enough?
11:51 tsmeow-afk takes a yawny sleepy break from unwiring and relocating and rewiring the 6 diode blocks, making an installing a platform for 6 fuses above the diode blocks, wiring the fuse holders to the diode blocks, wiring the dc outputs out into the rest of the
11:52 katsmeow-afk the way it did look : http://designerthinking.com/images/benchpsu/IMG_1046.jpg
11:53 katsmeow-afk and added two more pics to http://designerthinking.com/benchpsu.html#bottom
11:53 katsmeow-afk they are old pics, but were not linked before
11:55 katsmeow-afk ...
12:04 SolarNRG Someone's got to invent the auto fuse reloader
12:04 Steffanx ...
12:05 SolarNRG You know so your robot, rocket whatever doesn't just decide to fail the whole mission because one little bit of its gone wrong
12:05 SolarNRG the system needs to have an "auto repair" facility
12:05 Steffanx I think i could never make something like that katsmeow-afk :P
12:06 SolarNRG The system must "eat" in this case wax, aluminium whatever metal u can melt
12:06 Steffanx The look of things is important for me too :)
12:08 tsmeow-afk
12:08 Steffanx What that white stuff under the displays?
12:09 SolarNRG But most robots go for a bit then stop, they need to refuel, or eat or recharge
12:09 katsmeow-afk i wish i had put a watt meter on http://designerthinking.com/images/variac_rack/DSCF2236mc.jpg
12:09 katsmeow-afk i might put a toggle to switch the digital voltmeter toread watts
12:09 Steffanx That one looks better
12:10 katsmeow-afk oh, those pics are old, no holes yet, the displaysa re stuck in styrofoam
12:10 katsmeow-afk holds them up and together for the pic
12:11 tsmeow-afk goes afk a
12:14 Tom_itx rue_mohr
12:14 Tom_itx did you see my psu?
14:53 rue_mohr no
16:03 rizlah USA power plugs look so surprised
16:16 Triffid_Hunter horrified and surprised
17:51 rue_shop katsmeow-afk, I dont belive what I just found
17:52 rue_shop one of the lawn mower engines I'm smashing up has a PLASTIC timing gear
17:52 rue_shop and the lobes are plastic too
17:52 rue_shop their cast onto a steel shaft
17:52 rue_shop like !@#$!@#$???
17:53 Tom_itx cost
17:58 rue_mohr PLASTIC
17:59 ace4016 not all plastic is bad :P
17:59 rue_mohr PLASTIC TIMING GEAR IN ENGINE
18:00 Tom_itx if it broke it wouldn't grind everything up
18:00 ace4016 i used a push-reel mower today; it's not so bad....
18:01 ace4016 not bad at all
18:11 Skwint My mower has plastic blades too
18:11 Skwint it's not very effective, but it does work
18:17 Steffanx You don't Skwint ? :P
18:34 Skwint not much :(
19:04 rue_shop so I'm gonna make a buck controller for the new mowerbots motor speed controller
19:04 rue_shop that way the high currents at low speeds wont trip out the supply
19:07 rue_shop one of those dependency problems again
19:07 rue_shop to work on the large mower I have to get it outside
19:08 rue_shop to do that I have to be able to open both doors
19:08 rue_shop to do that I have to move the heating system parts for the shop
19:08 rue_shop to do that I have to clean out eh back shelf of the shop
19:08 rue_shop I dont know where it goes from there
19:09 katsmeow-afk big stuff on back shelf needs both doors open to move outside
19:14 rue_shop no thats an early dependency for getting the robot out
19:15 rue_shop :/ I put the robot on the lower lawn to mow it and it instantly went up to the top lawn
19:16 katsmeow-afk but it's still a lawn?
19:21 katsmeow-afk maybe it needed a better view of the task
19:29 rue_shop that mowerbot has a personality issue
19:30 rue_shop ONCE AGAIN I went up and it was attacking (or trying) the lawn mower
19:30 rue_shop ok, reasons to keep serial mice?
19:30 katsmeow-afk you were trying to invent an Ai, and your mowerbot is right under your nose, and so frustrated
19:30 e_shop digs into a large box of tangled
19:32 katsmeow-afk serial mice : cables, connectors, optics, push switches, housings to put mini-robots into
19:35 Tom_itx rue_shop i thought your shop was big enough
19:37 rue_shop I have to rebuild the back storage shelf
19:38 Tom_itx what did the kids do today?
19:40 rue_shop rewiring on the robot arm
19:40 rue_shop everything basically goes thru 1 cable now
19:52 Tom_itx rue_shop did you see my psu once i got the caps mounted?
19:54 Tom_itx i guess if you've seen one....
19:57 rue_shop not yet
19:58 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/cnc/psu/psu_index.php
20:23 rue_shop oh for you cnc, cool
20:23 rue_shop why circuit boards?
20:23 rue_shop are you not versed with the ways of olde?
20:23 Tom_itx the caps were pc mount
20:23 Tom_itx so i figured it would make a nice mounting
20:23 rue_shop hmm
20:27 rue_shop hmm 360 degree bumper for the new mowerbot, 1/2"pvc?
20:27 Tom_itx until the sun gets to it
20:34 rue_shop I can paint it
20:34 rue_shop maybe if I put peices out to hang the ring from...
20:35 rue_shop only problem with bumper rings is they are alwasy either too high or too low
23:07 katsmeow-afk 12!
23:46 rue_shop so I have 12V 24Ah for the blade and 24V 12Ah for the drive motors
23:46 rue_shop hmmm
23:46 rue_shop the origional used 24V 36Ah for the drive motors
