00:04 katsmeow-afk Positioning itself to become one of the largest solar markets globally, the governments King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KA-CARE) has announced Saudi Arabia's ambitious plans to install 41 gigawatts (GW) worth of solar by 2032.
00:04 katsmeow-afk Of the 41 GW of solar, photovoltaics is expected to comprise 16 GW, while concentrated solar power (CSP) will encompass 25 GW. "The CSP plants, with their higher capacity factor than PV, are foreseen as a bridge between base-load technologies (including geothermal, waste-to-energy and nuclear) and PV, which will provide coverage for daytime demand,"
00:06 furrywolf sounds like they're planning on some form of thermal storage to go with them.
00:06 rrywolf curls up next to kat for bed
00:07 katsmeow-afk In December, NR-Sol announced the opening of its 25 MW solar panel factory in the country, while in January, Nur Energie and the Desertec Foundation unveiled their plans to install two GW worth of CSP in the Saharan deserts.

00:09 katsmeow-afk Solar Frontier, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese arm of the Dutch oil giant Shell, has completed the installation of its 500 kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic project on Farasan Island. It is expected to commence production soon.

03:13 katsmeow-afk Attention, college students cramming between midterms and finals: Binging on soda and sweets for as little as six weeks may make you stupid.
03:52 Tom_itx katsmeow-afk i must be really stupid then. i intake quite a bit of sugar
03:52 katsmeow-afk it's the corn syrup
03:53 katsmeow-afk plain sugar did not have the same effect
03:53 Tom_itx it's in soda though right?
03:53 katsmeow-afk many non-diet sodas contain corn syrup, yeas, but not all
03:54 katsmeow-afk just thinking out loud here, not really resolving anything, but i wonder if i am tired all day because i get no sleep at nite,,,,, what about you?
03:55 Tom_itx i'm not even thinking here so you're way ahead there
03:56 Tom_itx i always wake up around 3 or 3:30 or so
03:57 katsmeow-afk i keep thinking og how to get the water pump moved inside so it's not stolen, how to get 1500 gallons of water moved inside so it won't freeze, getting the lathe finished, starting a mill, a tree climber trimmer robot, the boat, the truck, garden, irrigation, etc etc
03:58 katsmeow-afk there is just SO much stuff all over my mind, i haven't seen it in weeks
03:58 Tom_itx count sheep
04:00 tsmeow-afk counted dtmf signalling, it's horribly slow: max reliable is 25 tones per sec, even at 12 cents per chip it's hardly wort

05:39 katsmeow-afk i has a question: how will you pour wax into that wax mold and not melt the mold?
05:40 katsmeow-afk it's about lunchtime over there now?
05:41 saschi what's that?
05:41 saschi wax? :)
05:42 saschi the white thingy positive is repraped?
05:42 saschi katsmeow-afk: he could use a wachs with lower melting point
05:42 saschi :3
05:43 katsmeow-afk i'll let you explain that to him
05:45 saschi kathsmeow-afk: the thing wich looks like made of wax, is it realy made of wax? wax like paraffine?
05:46 saschi katsmeow-afk: and the white think is PLA or ABS?
05:47 saschi hum
05:47 katsmeow-afk afaik, it's candle wax, i dunno more about it, but the white came out of a reprap machine
06:01 SolarNRG The mold is made from platinum cure, rated to 230 degrees C!
06:02 katsmeow-afk i do wish you'd quit calling it "platinum", there isn't any in it
06:07 SolarNRG Yes there is, there's platinum as the catalyst I rung up the guys who sold it to me!
06:07 SolarNRG Are you saying :o OMG ARE THEY LYING?

06:19 katsmeow-afk i dunno if i should say thanks or growl at you
06:21 SolarNRG Put it this way, I wouldn't want to fall in there not wearing a drysuit
06:21 SolarNRG The girl is quite pretty tho
06:21 katsmeow-afk oh, you meant the water is beautiful and hostile
06:22 SolarNRG yeah
06:26 katsmeow-afk PBS did a show about that area some 15 yrs ago, it was great, the rock is karsk, the water is seasonal, so sometimes the rock is eroded, sometimes it's repaired by the water, but often a lake is totally different from one yr to the next because the very rock is changed out from under it
06:27 katsmeow-afk lotta karsk in China, mainly in areas they are trying to grow food, the little water they have falls right thru the ground, so does sewage and otehr polutants, and comes back at lower elevations from springs
06:27 katsmeow-afk still polluted
06:28 Skwint delightful
06:28 Skwint I'm not normally a huge fan of long exposure waterfalls, but it works well in amongst the ice
06:28 katsmeow-afk Indonesia has a lot also, some magnificent caves, some mountains are all but hollowed out from the tunnels cut by rainwater over the eons
06:29 katsmeow-afk some of Alabama has limestone such that a stream wil be flowing acoss the ground and just stop existing, falling thru holes in the ground to caves below
08:20 Skwint I've been through some of the caves in Borneo, in the Malaysian bit - absolutely spectacular
08:20 Skwint seen the hawks catching bats too :)
09:14 rue_mohr I wonder if the aluminum shafts I planned can take the load of pending pipe

14:18 Steffanx Sorry, we don't have to learn morse anymore
14:22 rue_mohr my timing got completely screwed up
14:23 rue_mohr 12:13 now, need to leave for the ferry at 1:50
15:03 katsmeow-afk ah wel, i found out when putting water down a 2" pipe didn't help me locate it's outlet: the outlet is 3ft underground in well-draining dirt-gravel
15:18 furrywolf that just means you need more water.
15:18 katsmeow-afk enough to waterlog the side of the mountain and push it off?
15:19 furrywolf yep
15:19 furrywolf then you'll find the end of the pipe. :)
15:19 tsmeow-afk notes that for next
15:19 katsmeow-afk true, true
15:20 katsmeow-afk the value of 2nd opinions :-)
15:21 furrywolf around here, if you put a pipe 3ft underground, you can pull water out of it. heh.
15:21 katsmeow-afk not hre, but then it won't usually drain either
15:22 katsmeow-afk this drained because it was backfill
15:22 furrywolf water table here is just under the surface
15:22 tsmeow-afk
15:23 katsmeow-afk just under some rocks here, flip one over, or look tween them, there's water, but it's at the bottom of the mountain
15:24 furrywolf I'm at the bottom. heh.
15:24 furrywolf something like 10ft over sea level.
15:24 katsmeow-afk on the sea, or way inland?
15:24 furrywolf about a mile from the bay, which is a few miles from the sea.
15:25 katsmeow-afk hmm, mile is a ways, too far to run some pipe
15:25 furrywolf maybe 7 miles to the sea in a straight line
15:25 furrywolf what would I want bay water for?
15:25 rue_mohr I thought I was able to post a comment on youtube
15:25 rue_mohr but not for a specific channel
15:25 katsmeow-afk heck if i know, i was just checking availability
15:25 furrywolf rue_mohr: but you're too smart to do so?
15:27 katsmeow-afk what is a channel on youtube?
15:27 katsmeow-afk i didn't know they had channels

15:31 katsmeow-afk lol with chorkling sounds
15:35 furrywolf I decided to build a workbench today... the top is two 2x12s. should be nice and sturdy.
15:36 katsmeow-afk for real
15:36 katsmeow-afk i tend to use 1/2 - 3/4 plywood over a frame of 2x4
15:36 KongfuPanda Steffanx. hi, how are things?
15:36 katsmeow-afk this table is a small door
15:36 Steffanx Fine.. there?
15:37 furrywolf going to use the two 2x12s for the top, on a frame made of 2x4s, with six 2x4s for legs...
15:37 furrywolf and lots of 2x4s for bracing...
15:37 KongfuPanda Steffanx, ok-ish... I can't make myself do revision, constantly getting distracted.. but I need to do it, it's my two final exams, and I need to get a good grade. My PhD offer depends on it
15:37 tsmeow-afk
15:37 Steffanx :)
15:37 Steffanx /quit
15:37 KongfuPanda woooot??
15:38 KongfuPanda aww, ok
15:38 Steffanx :P
15:38 Steffanx It's for your own best
15:38 KongfuPanda I know, you only wish good for me
15:38 KongfuPanda but the real problem is not IRC, it's Age of Empires Online
15:39 KongfuPanda I deleted it yesterday, but then went to system restore and restored it today
15:39 furrywolf I would imagine it has a quit function as well.
15:39 KongfuPanda after playing for 3 hours, I rage quit. ANd deleted it again, and deleted system restore..
15:39 Steffanx LOL, even I wouldn't do that
15:39 Steffanx I mean do a restore
15:40 KongfuPanda not system restore, "restore previous file version of the folder"
15:40 furrywolf as if we needed more proof video games were like crack...
15:41 Steffanx So how can we force you to do something more useful KongfuPanda ?
15:41 katsmeow-afk wave $100 billion under his nose
15:42 Steffanx No, that won't help
15:42 furrywolf sure it'll help. he'll decide he doesn't need that phd after all.
15:42 furrywolf thereby solving the problem.
15:43 Steffanx Yeah, but that makes him even more useless
15:43 katsmeow-afk exactly, he can finish it at his lesure
15:45 katsmeow-afk you cannot tell me to have this paper done next week, i bought this university yesterday, and i'll make the rules now
15:46 KongfuPanda no, a billion dollar won't work
15:46 KongfuPanda I need beatings
15:46 KongfuPanda phahaha
15:46 furrywolf try #s&m
15:46 katsmeow-afk seheh, took the words outa my mouth
15:46 KongfuPanda like when I was a child , my mother would shout at me, and maybe give me beatings, and I do all work because I'm angry
15:47 KongfuPanda now, no-one can do it, so I'm becoming more and more lazy
15:47 KongfuPanda katsmeow-afk, oh, that would worl
15:47 KongfuPanda work*
15:47 furrywolf check the phonebook for professional dominatrixes? I'm sure "I miss my mother beating me" wouldn't surprise them at all...
15:48 KongfuPanda if I buy the university for 100 billion dollars
15:48 KongfuPanda I'm only joking man
15:48 katsmeow-afk joking about buying the U. or about hiring a domme?
15:48 KongfuPanda what's a dominatrixy?
15:48 KongfuPanda like a mountain domme?
15:49 katsmeow-afk never heard of that
15:49 KongfuPanda oh, you mean like sexual stuff
15:49 KongfuPanda I see now
15:50 katsmeow-afk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominatrix <<== heh, it's capitalised
15:51 katsmeow-afk well, there's a lot of non-sexual B&D going on, like boss&employee, husband&wife
15:52 KongfuPanda anyway, I better get on with my revision
15:52 KongfuPanda I bought a new laptop, and it basically took 4 days of my revision already
15:54 furrywolf and I have to go to work. bbl.

17:16 SolarNRG I am very happy :D
17:18 Tom_itx kewel
17:19 SolarNRG My plan is to make 200 wax big gears and 200 pinions (mold not yet made but will be smaller and easier)
17:19 SolarNRG After that I am going to make wax copes and drags
17:19 SolarNRG and a wax pour hole
17:19 SolarNRG Then molochite it up
17:20 SolarNRG Then recycle the wax back out
17:20 SolarNRG Then build your resistive foudry and make an aluminium gear for now
17:20 SolarNRG Once that's done, I'll begin work on the induction furnace. I think its handy to have results fast
17:21 ace4016 your video cuts off
17:21 SolarNRG That would be my battery :(
17:21 SolarNRG Sorry about that

17:59 katsmeow-afk simply asstarnishing
18:30 KongfuPanda katsmeow-afk, what kind of ram?
18:36 KongfuPanda anyway, I probably don't need it :D

23:20 katsmeow-afk <cough> it wasn't me, i swear
23:21 katsmeow-afk you know they sometimes leave on their own?
23:21 furrywolf not when they're in a pond with no outlet other than overflow runoff
23:22 katsmeow-afk big koi?
23:22 tsmeow-afk suspects the enig
23:22 furrywolf he was about 7" long... was here when I got here 2.5 years ago, grown a few inches since then
23:23 ferdna guys i am looking for a air solenoid valve 2 inches no more than 100 dllrs...
23:23 ferdna any ideas?
23:23 katsmeow-afk anythng he could be hiding under, just playing coy?
23:23 furrywolf he always comes to the surface when he sees me, hoping to get food... I didn't see him yesterday, which was odd, but figured he might just be resting... didn't see him today either... checked the pond, not there.
23:23 furrywolf I checked the two things he could hide under. it's a small pond.
23:23 furrywolf could be birds, racoons, cats,...
23:23 furrywolf the neighbor's dog drinks from the pond, but I don't think he'd eat the fish.
23:24 furrywolf (plus the fish always hid when he was there
23:24 katsmeow-afk sadly, fish in a barrel, or pond, are as vulnerable to *everything* as a week-old chicken
23:24 furrywolf he was a big fat and happy goldfish. :(
23:25 katsmeow-afk ferdna, check ebay is my first thought
23:25 katsmeow-afk was my 2nd and 3rd thought too, i'd go with it
23:26 furrywolf ferdna: 2" is a rather large valve. unless you get it used or cheap, you're looking at several hundred.
23:26 ferdna furrywolf, yeah i've been looking at prices =(
23:26 furrywolf let me guess, spud gun?
23:26 ferdna katsmeow-afk, yes i looked there nothing...
23:27 ferdna furrywolf, YES!!!!!!!!! =P

23:27 katsmeow-afk http://www.ebay.com/itm/TBV-11SE-2-M4M4-GT-2IN-BOLTED-BALL-VALVE-STAINLESS-QUARTER-TURN-1500WOG-27474-/120911940459?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c26e9cb6b
23:27 furrywolf pvc valves are not for air use.
23:28 katsmeow-afk why not? none are spec'd for potato anyhow?
23:28 ferdna katsmeow-afk, oh.... i was getting this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/2-inch-brass-ball-valve-66860.html
23:29 ferdna will a 2 inch give me more power?
23:29 ferdna or will a 1 inch be enough?
23:29 furrywolf if a pvc valve cracks when it's filled with water, you get a leak. if it cracks when filled with air, it breaks into tiny bits of shrapnel which all fly outwards at high speed. pvc should not be used for air.
23:29 furrywolf you can use a quarter turn ball valve with a big spring to open it.
23:30 katsmeow-afk why does that http://www.harborfreight.com/2-inch-brass-ball-valve-66860.html image have "1/2 PSI" cast as part of the ball valve body?
23:31 rrywolf goes back to being a sad w
23:32 katsmeow-afk speaking of power tools i can afford, what do i need to go thru 8" of concrete?
23:32 katsmeow-afk 2" hole
23:33 furrywolf how big of a hole? if under 1", a generic hammer drill. if up to 2", a sds rotohammer. if bigger, a jackhammer...
23:33 ferdna katsmeow-afk, what will that 1/2 psi mean?
23:33 katsmeow-afk i am trying real hard to get a hole under the wall, but as the other side is backfilled with 8ft of rocks and concrete bits, it's real slow going
23:34 furrywolf if it's loose material, you can try hamming a point through.
23:34 furrywolf hammering
23:34 katsmeow-afk ferdna, i dunno, i think it means if you apply more than 1/2 psi to it and it fails, they have an "out", legally speaking
23:34 katsmeow-afk furry, loose fist-sized rocks and concrete up to 12" dia
23:35 furrywolf you can get a 2" sds core bit, but you're not going to like the price tag.
23:36 katsmeow-afk shame i cannot sling my 200lb jackhammer sideways
23:36 furrywolf if you need deeper than a core bit can do, you'll need to break up the plug with a chisel or somethin.
23:37 furrywolf yeah, a jackhammer is pretty much the standard option for big holes in concrete. :)
23:37 katsmeow-afk like a http://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/demo-hammers/10-amp-120-volt-demolition-hammer-68148.html ?
23:37 furrywolf my connection is sucking too much to load that, but sounds right.
23:37 katsmeow-afk i got it to dig holes in the ground with, it's that tough here
23:37 furrywolf expect it to break in ten minutes, given the retailer.
23:38 katsmeow-afk hmm
23:38 katsmeow-afk man i am so broke
23:39 home no Ia mbroke
23:39 furrywolf I probably have $50 left in my checking account, and just enough cash to get those ni-fe batteries when the guy calls back.
23:39 home ew
23:40 katsmeow-afk i thought we should all be getting rich on ebay
23:41 furrywolf and now I'm sad too. :(
23:42 rrywolf has been taking care of that fishy for over two years now.
23:42 katsmeow-afk you should REALLY have some $20 cameras watching your stuff when you're at work, furry
23:43 furrywolf it was most likely an animal, not a person.
23:43 furrywolf there's birds, cats, dogs, and racoons here, all of which like the water.
23:43 katsmeow-afk yeas, and i built a house for 10 yrs on land i bought, and lost it to the neighbors gods, and i still havetolive here
23:43 furrywolf I thought it was big enough to avoid the birds, and smart enough to avoid the cats and dogs, but apparantly not...
23:44 katsmeow-afk i don't care what it was that took the fish, with a camera and dvr you'd at least know what it was
23:44 furrywolf if I get another fish, I guess I'll put chicken wire over the pond, but... meh.
23:44 furrywolf I don't think I will.
23:45 ferdna katsmeow-afk, that link on ebay for the 2 inch valve... shipping is 21.92
23:45 katsmeow-afk most animals wold walk out onto the chicken wire and pin the fish tot he botton and still try to get it
23:45 katsmeow-afk sorry, i didn't look, cause soon as i found the link you said you already searched ebay, and i quit
23:46 katsmeow-afk [23:17] <ferdna> katsmeow-afk, yes i looked there nothing...

23:49 katsmeow-afk yeas well, doesn'tmake me all that happy either
23:50 tsmeow-afk appolog
23:53 furrywolf I guess I'll get rid of the pond... no point in having an empty pond.
23:53 katsmeow-afk water storage, rice plantation
23:54 katsmeow-afk heat sink
23:55 furrywolf it's small. the size of a bathtub.
23:56 katsmeow-afk so it's good for 100 gallons
23:56 furrywolf now it's just going to fill with mosquitos, like all other standing water.
23:56 tsmeow-afk sits down and licks a cough
23:57 furrywolf he kept it bug-free... and any time I found a bucket, container, etc with mosquitos in it, I'd dump it in the pond, and he'd zip around eating all of them...
23:58 katsmeow-afk well, you could enlarge it, and get two fish
23:59 katsmeow-afk but with a 80gal/day solar-powered water pump, i'd use it to store water all nite for the morning watering of your farmette that you will be planting
23:59 furrywolf I have a 400gal and a 1500gal water tank
