00:00 katsmeow-afk wow
00:00 rrywolf has big wide
00:00 katsmeow-afk get shoes from zhanx
00:01 furrywolf the ones I get are stocked up to 13, and I think they can get 14 special order. but, my paws aren't THAT big!
00:01 furrywolf zhanx?
00:01 katsmeow-afk Tiggr islooking at "helicopter rotor blade mounting assembly and manufacturing" and "manifold monitoring hemodynamic pressure" , and i am unsure why
00:02 katsmeow-afk zhanx has huge paws too
00:03 katsmeow-afk i hope Tiggr is proveably smarter than Watson some day
00:04 furrywolf it's seeing lots of things, but is it observing them? :)
00:04 katsmeow-afk clarify the question?
00:05 furrywolf umm... it was a bad sherlock holmes joke, where holmes often tells watson that he sees things, but does not observe them, because he didn't note the details, didn't understand the significance of what he was seeing, etc.
00:06 katsmeow-afk one of my 7104 oscopes came from an IBM lab in NY, and since it wasn't Columbia, i am thinking it was Watson Research Lab
00:07 furrywolf or, in this case, since a bot is incapable of actually understanding the pages it scans, does it make any useful use of the information, or just store it.
00:07 katsmeow-afk ah, tiggr has details, but i dunno about the significance f details, especially if implied and not stated
00:07 katsmeow-afk at, since the cluster is not up, because i have not been up to heavy labor since i got back, i have not even moved her cluster back down here
00:08 katsmeow-afk i am running 1/10 her routine data mining on this puter, just so it's not wasting power when i am afk
00:09 katsmeow-afk at peak mining last yr, she was hitting the web for data as fast as 5 times per sec
00:09 rrywolf curls up next to kat for bed
00:10 katsmeow-afk she was verifying she already had data and NOT going for data some 20x per sec
00:11 furrywolf bbl, bedtime for wolfies.
00:12 katsmeow-afk i go wash my hair again, it's almost enjoyable with my new running water :-)
00:14 furrywolf heh
00:16 furrywolf bbl
00:27 rue_mohr http://www.embedded-vision.com/news/2011/11/01/microsoft-research-mashup-kinect-augmented-reality-holodeck-mockup
00:31 katsmeow-afk yeas, and the idea for tracking human positon in real world, and feeding data to their eyes with a HUD is old. the plan was the human saw what the computer wanted them to see, and the computer robots provided things at the right places for the human to touch
00:32 katsmeow-afk the robot would present a doorknob in the middle of the room, where the human saw a door, but there was no door, and the human operated the doorknob the robot provided
00:32 katsmeow-afk the computer showed a door opening on the head-display unit
00:33 rue_mohr http://www.embedded-vision.com/news/2011/10/18/focusing-blur
00:33 katsmeow-afk if the human wanted to hit his head on a wall, the robot provided a small pieceof plywood, the computer showed it as a wall
00:35 katsmeow-afk "Harnessing the micro-lens array shown in my article, Light Field captures both traditional light intensity and light ray direction by varying the angles of micro lenses above close-proximity pixels" = "they take a lot of low res pics at different focus settings"
00:35 katsmeow-afk that was demoed over 5 years ago
00:36 katsmeow-afk "Humans and animals instinctively extract key features from a blurry image, use that information to determine their distance from an object," = "wrong"
00:36 katsmeow-afk they use eye angle
00:36 rue_mohr it seemed interesting
00:36 katsmeow-afk people with one eye often get distance wrong
00:37 rue_mohr there was a free demo somewhere that would software refocus an image
00:37 rue_mohr not long after it was posted it dissapeared
00:37 katsmeow-afk "“What we discovered is that the imperfections in the eye—things like astigmatism and chromatic aberration—actually help it to focus,” Geisler explains. That may help explain why people who have had their astigmatism corrected through laser eye surgery often have trouble focusing for several weeks afterward" = "wrong"
00:38 katsmeow-afk it's just retraining the brain that was accustomed to bad eyesight, and now must get accustomed to good eyesigt
00:38 katsmeow-afk what morons that reporter is
00:39 katsmeow-afk besides, doesn't everyone know by now that coroprations always give out misdirection as they are prototyping and doing trademarking?
00:41 katsmeow-afk IBM is deploying a "sound web" which is voice "webpages" you can call into and access data read to you, without knowing how to type or haveing any keybd,, it's "new and exciting", it's what we useto call "automated voice answering machine"
00:44 rue_mohr i do NOT want to go to bed
00:44 tsmeow-afk commands the bed to goto
00:55 e_mohr looks up and wor
00:56 rue_mohr http://th03.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2011/195/8/7/su_jian___mecha_by_genzoman-d3r9a1w.jpg
00:56 rue_mohr does that foot seem backwards to you?
00:56 rue_mohr http://th05.deviantart.net/fs36/PRE/f/2008/253/4/0/Mecha_factory_by_AndreeWallin.jpg
00:56 rue_mohr that one too
00:57 rue_mohr http://th08.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2011/103/f/8/mecha_jam_by_edsfox-d3dxjap.jpg
00:57 rue_mohr there, wide toes, not heel
00:57 rue_mohr ??
00:58 rue_mohr this is all battle mechs, I need a repository of utility mechs
00:59 rue_mohr http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs29/f/2008/078/b/8/Mecha_Habit_by_VanHeist.jpg <-- erp, dont get kat pissed!
01:00 rue_mohr almost none of these have any technical thought
01:01 rue_mohr http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs22/f/2007/331/9/3/Mecha_1_by_higherdepths.jpg <--- there thats better with the feet, looks like a design that supports passive compliance
01:06 rue_mohr http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs29/i/2008/086/c/e/mecha_by_LightArtGuy.jpg <--kat, think you can identify the machine, I see a dial on the front...
01:06 rue_mohr I'm not finding what I was looking for
01:08 rue_mohr sometimes the artz have interesting insights
01:52 katsmeow-afk mouw
01:57 katsmeow-afk why not a general purpose design, one that can use tools, and wear armor as needed, not be bulky, be fast, not need constant repair, and doesn't run out of power for days?
02:13 katsmeow-afk rue, why build this: http://diarment.deviantart.com/art/Steampunk-Robot-106479701?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=44
02:14 katsmeow-afk if you can have this : http://bergie81.deviantart.com/art/Robot-ChipReader-117494976?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=38
02:17 katsmeow-afk what if this was you and your 12ft mecha : http://sakimichan.deviantart.com/art/Project-Pet-Robot-159828713?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=83
02:18 katsmeow-afk then why would you build this : http://lun2004.deviantart.com/art/Samurai-Robot-159476687?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=113
02:20 katsmeow-afk http://idomuchris.deviantart.com/art/the-shy-robot-24114159?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=167

02:21 katsmeow-afk not : http://jossdiim.deviantart.com/art/Guardor-3d-robot-136074147?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=180
02:22 katsmeow-afk Robocop was not a big hulking one-purpose beast, but he beat everything thrown at him
02:23 katsmeow-afk the T-101 that swartzenegger played was big and bulky, but got routinely beat up by smaller and lighter robots, two of them would have snuffed him easily
02:24 katsmeow-afk and in the tv series what'shernick chronicles, that smallest of all "female" robots also beat all that was thrown at her
02:27 katsmeow-afk so did the robot avatar in the tv series where the ship was an Ai
02:28 katsmeow-afk which one of you guys would rather live with http://stefantistu.deviantart.com/art/Robot-264073878?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=290

07:36 SolarNRG Hi there
08:53 rue_mohr katsmeow-afk, 12' is as SMALL as I can make one with the parts I have
08:54 rue_mohr - can get -
09:20 DanFrederiksen that's what I said :)
10:58 rrywolf stretches out and y
10:59 furrywolf a slug killed all three of my trinidad scorpion seedlings overnight. :(
10:59 furrywolf all three are now just stubs of stem, with a slimey trail between them.
11:21 furrywolf well, it killed all three of my butch t trinidad scorpion, still have two moruga trinidad scorpion... but the butch t were older and a lot more likely to produce a crop this summer.
12:45 tsmeow-afk gives furry one of her 5gal buckets to hang the peppers up in, out of reach of the s
12:46 katsmeow-afk rue, i was commentng more on the style of robot, not the size, i think http://stefantistu.deviantart.com/art/Robot-264073878?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=290 and http://molybdenumgp03.deviantart.com/art/robot-girl-195104830?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=284 are the same height
12:47 katsmeow-afk imho, even if all you want is to do battle, 2 or 3 smaller, faster, coordinated bots will beat a heavy slow bot every time
12:47 furrywolf this has to be the first time I've ever seen someone paste deviantart links that weren't porn.
12:48 katsmeow-afk oh, there's robot porn there too
12:51 furrywolf yeah, that second one is pretty close...
12:52 katsmeow-afk [02:20] <katsmeow-afk> arrggg http://taghuso.deviantart.com/art/Sexy-Robot-175519297?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=304
12:53 rrywolf doesn't like
12:55 tsmeow-afk erase
12:56 katsmeow-afk my whole arguement was against "Transformers" (tm) types of mostly useless impractical robots
13:06 furrywolf so... do I work on gardening, work on house cleaning, or bash a hole through a wall where the water heater is going to go?
13:07 katsmeow-afk you said the hole already had a door
13:08 SolarNRG Nah, blatantly this: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=lML&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1250&bih=653&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=eWgBTAsW-2GJUM:&imgrefurl=http://ukgent.com/2012/02/13/gadgets-for-valentine/robot-sex-doll/&docid=2eLCuUfXsPLtfM&imgurl=http://ukgent.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/robot-sex-doll.jpg&w=460&h=304&ei=mEexT_aKHonO0QXy8NyTCQ&zoom=1&ia

13:08 SolarNRG This I mean: http://ukgent.com/2012/02/13/gadgets-for-valentine/robot-sex-doll/
13:09 furrywolf katsmeow-afk: well, it did at one point in history, until someone nailed a few random mismatched scraps of siding over it to hide that it was falling apart...
13:09 katsmeow-afk ah
13:10 furrywolf I don't know what I'll find under the siding. from the inside, all I can see is a very rotten piece of plywood. but that should have had aluminum siding over it already, so I don't know why there's scraps of siding on it.
13:10 katsmeow-afk in that case, praps the floor in the hole cannot hold the weight of the water tank becauase the floor has been water damaged,, i might consider pouring 4 bags of concrete pad on the ground for the tank, anywhere most convinent
13:11 furrywolf I'm quite sure the floor can't, as it rotted out into a big hole.
13:11 furrywolf however, the metal braces under it are intact, so I just need to put down some new boards.
13:11 katsmeow-afk i agree, non-existant floors can hold very little weight
13:16 SolarNRG I think there's a lot of money in robot sex dolls
13:18 katsmeow-afk which would not look like battle bots, i imagine, except to a small clientelle?
13:19 SolarNRG You could have a legal robot brothel!
13:19 SolarNRG Yoo hoo
13:19 SolarNRG Yoo hoo
13:19 SolarNRG Crushernator: YOO HOO
13:19 katsmeow-afk solar, here is your sex robot, please enjoy your purchase : http://stefantistu.deviantart.com/art/Robot-264073878?q=boost%3Apopular%20robot&qo=290
13:20 furrywolf sex is useless without love, and those aren't sentient.
13:20 katsmeow-afk furry, wrong, that's a lot of the problem, sex happens without love most of the time
13:21 katsmeow-afk most sex happens for commerce or domination
13:21 rrywolf has no interest in sex without
13:22 SolarNRG I think for the vaginal robot you need a hi-speed linear actuator with two hard but stretchable plastic like PLA loops on and it goes back and forth and there is a silicone lubricant heater and dispense inside
13:22 SolarNRG the rails are along the hips
13:23 SolarNRG and two wiper motors on the knees so it goes back and forth
13:23 SolarNRG easy
13:23 SolarNRG And a looped MP3 of "oh yes, yes yes, baby fuck me please"
13:24 rrywolf thinks SolarNRG has thought way too hard about
13:24 SolarNRG Mass produce them and you're a millionairre, you can go to Las Vegas, Tokyo and go to 5 star hotel and be the uber robot pimp
13:24 tsmeow-afk isn't interested in the mechanics of how solar does what any pig, dog, chimp, ca
13:25 SolarNRG But robot sex dolls would be cleaner and more sanitary
13:25 furrywolf yeah, but most areas have laws against sleeping with pigs, dogs, and chimps, but not robots.
13:25 SolarNRG Fewer ethical problems too
13:25 SolarNRG Fewer legal problems also
13:25 SolarNRG You see why it is a good business model?
13:25 furrywolf no, because most people won't be interested at all.
13:26 katsmeow-afk sex dolls will cost $10k's, the local hooker is $20, duh
13:26 SolarNRG Nah, I could make my own latex mold of Lexi for maybe 21 quid
13:26 SolarNRG The wiper motors only a fiver each
13:26 katsmeow-afk let us know when you have that done
13:26 SolarNRG The mp3 player like 20 quid
13:26 SolarNRG You want a video when I'm done?
13:27 katsmeow-afk actually, i just want to know Lexi is undamaged and alive when you're done
13:27 SolarNRG LOL
13:27 SolarNRG A wig as the hair
13:27 SolarNRG Some silicone sealant from the plumbers as the tit
13:27 SolarNRG s
13:28 rrywolf curls up next to katsmeow
13:28 tsmeow-afk puts on ear m
13:30 rrywolf doesn't snore THAT lou
13:30 katsmeow-afk no, against solar
13:31 katsmeow-afk woo, my check valves for the RO are in the mailbox!
13:31 SolarNRG Check out how real taht is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEO14dFGj-w&feature=related
13:31 rrywolf thinks SolarNRG needs to get out
13:33 furrywolf if I ever build a sex-type-robot, it'd look far more like a cheap sybian clone than a person.
13:33 furrywolf no reason for it to look like a person.
13:34 katsmeow-afk umm, is such a toy bisexual?
13:36 furrywolf a sybian has a dildo on top, if that's what you're asking.
13:36 katsmeow-afk the device came to prominence on The Howard Stern Show since the show's arrival on Sirius Satellite Radio.[5] Howard Stern was given a Sybian as a birthday gift in 2006 and it remains in the Stern studio for use by willing guests.
13:37 katsmeow-afk i can see what it is, but it isn't what solar desires
13:37 furrywolf lol
13:38 furrywolf I want friends that buy me gifts like that. heh.
13:38 furrywolf I've never once gotten a sex toy as a gift.
13:38 furrywolf nor have I ever gotten anything worth 1/20th what a sybian costs.
13:38 katsmeow-afk because you'd know you could make them better, so why give you something that will disappoint you?
13:39 rrywolf isn't all that interested, much preferring real wo
13:39 katsmeow-afk i 1) would not use a motor, 2) have no clue what to charge 3) no clue where to sell them
13:40 katsmeow-afk i would be too embarrassed to try and get business insurance for such a thing
13:40 furrywolf heh
13:41 furrywolf it's also illegal where you are, so don't try. :)
13:41 katsmeow-afk that too
13:41 furrywolf I think you're in the only place on the planet with a law against having sex with a machine.
13:41 katsmeow-afk here, one can marry their cousin or adopted kid, but not have a vibrator
13:41 furrywolf heh
13:43 katsmeow-afk there have been 30-minute tv commercials here for neck massagers that came with two attachements, one looked like a toilet scrubber, one was plainly a dildo
13:44 furrywolf lol
13:44 katsmeow-afk we should stop discussing them before rue or Tom builds a time machine and comes back from 3 hours from now to kick us out of channel
13:45 katsmeow-afk and i need to go do things irl, like get the mail
13:45 furrywolf too bad women here are all defective in some fashion... the problem with living in the pot capital of the country is it attracts fucking potheads.
13:46 katsmeow-afk well, you got half the description you wanted
13:46 furrywolf ?
13:46 katsmeow-afk fucking potheads
13:46 katsmeow-afk </joke>
13:46 furrywolf love is more important than sex. heh.
13:47 katsmeow-afk i heard you
13:47 furrywolf I want loving non-potheads. :P
13:47 katsmeow-afk anyhoo, i need to go afk again, things need doing irl
13:47 furrywolf let's, like, get really fucking stoned, and, like, watch tv, like dude.
13:47 furrywolf and you're not allowed to shoot them...
13:47 furrywolf cyas
14:07 furrywolf there's nothing between the plywood and the nailed-on siding... looks like the original door went missing or something.
14:07 furrywolf and the opening is 1.5" too narrow for the water heater on craigslist.
14:07 furrywolf but, since there's not much of a door left anyway, I can cut the hole a few inches bigger and build a new door.
14:09 furrywolf (originally had a 30 gallon, I'm looking at a 50 gallon)
14:30 katsmeow-afk hmm, i accidently got some 240v 30amp relays, 12vdc coil, for 50 cents each
14:34 furrywolf looks like I'll need to cut out a stud to make the door wider
14:35 katsmeow-afk where "stud" = "poplar 2x2" , shouldn't be a problem
14:35 furrywolf and the way the siding is made out of scraps will make it a real pain to construct a decent-looking door. bleh.
14:35 furrywolf yes, the actual cutting isn't the problem... it's the roof not collapsing without it that's the problem.
14:37 katsmeow-afk in additon to the one wall stud, it's propane so you'll need a flue vent, and air intake opening, too
14:37 furrywolf I guess the next step is to find a bathtub, and see if I'd have enough room to move the stud over...
14:37 furrywolf it already has a flue vent - it's the original water heater location for the mobile home.
14:37 katsmeow-afk and a way to keep bugs from crawling in, stealing some fire, then crawling back out to share the fire with the structure
14:37 furrywolf and right now it has a couple square feet of air intake opening in the floor. :)
14:38 katsmeow-afk wow, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=160675443767&view=all&tid=697798174006 is now updated to cost 5x as much : http://www.ebay.com/itm/160675443767
14:40 furrywolf I want to use as large of a heater as I can make fit, to store the solar water longer.
14:40 furrywolf I'll wrap it in a good thick water heater blanket, too.
14:40 furrywolf actually, scratch that idea... no point in adding extra insulation to a gas heater.
14:41 katsmeow-afk err, problem with that idea: 1) residential tanks have no insulation to mention, B) flue vents heat as well, iii) with low water temperatures a shower will eat all 50 gallons
14:41 furrywolf unless I built some type of fancy damper system, insulating the outside won't help when all the heat is lost through the inside...
14:42 katsmeow-afk what i said
14:42 furrywolf yeah, but I was almost done typing it, so wasn't going to delete it. :P
14:42 katsmeow-afk get a electonic ignition too, else you're wasting gas
14:42 furrywolf I only plan on turning the gas on occasionally.
14:42 furrywolf otherwise it will be turned off.
14:43 furrywolf and electronic ignition gets into needing a reliable power supply to it.
14:43 katsmeow-afk yeas, s well as maual control over when it operates
14:43 home okay
14:44 katsmeow-afk coming on at 9am 30 minutes before your solaor heaters start dumping hot water into it = bad timing
14:44 furrywolf yep
14:44 furrywolf when you make your fancy house energy usage control box, make it connect to the internet to get a weather forecast, and use that to plan certain things. :)
14:46 furrywolf I was at Sears looking at weater heaters a couple years ago, and they had ones with big fancy displays, LEDs, etc, that didn't need any power... they just had a standing pilot large enough to run a thermopile. Seemed like a step backwards to me, but they claimed it was a feature with big advertising signs...
14:46 katsmeow-afk you know there are systems that do that already, and afaik very few sold?
14:48 furrywolf they said the electronic display versions were only available in natural gas, not propane. I guess they figured anyone who actually noticed how much it was costing them would never do it...
14:48 katsmeow-afk heh
14:49 katsmeow-afk i'd prefer putting in a AA cell once a year vs leaving the gas on 24-7
14:50 furrywolf heh
14:51 furrywolf I guess it's a selling point around here, as the gas supply is a lot more reliable than the electric supply (multi-day outages are common, even in cities), but it seemed very wasteful.
14:52 katsmeow-afk i forget who, someone has an IR pv panel in a gas furnace, 500w iirc, enough to power the furnace fan and a miniflourescent
14:53 katsmeow-afk i knew someone with a 4-ton ammonia ac unit on a house, NG powered
14:53 furrywolf heh
14:55 furrywolf hrmm, they're now selling water heaters with automatic flue dampers, like I was thinking of inventing.
14:55 furrywolf and they don't seem to still be selling the pilot-powered-electronics one.
15:03 katsmeow-afk last time i tried buying IR pv from China it was like trying to get zinc-air or aluminum-air cells from Israel, they have them, and won't sell them
15:04 rrywolf knows nothing about i
15:05 katsmeow-afk "you cannot use these IR pv on solar, solar temperature cycles too fast when cloud goes by, so units will crack" as if i had not already thought of putting them on a liquid sodium thermal mass tank
15:05 katsmeow-afk it's like visable PV, on;y for heat
15:06 katsmeow-afk heat one side, cool the other, like "solid state refridgerators" or "car 12vdc beverage coolers"
15:06 katsmeow-afk heat one side with a kerosene lamp, run a radio on it
15:06 furrywolf so seeback units?
15:06 katsmeow-afk you can get them to attach to wood heaters too
15:07 katsmeow-afk various technologies, most are silicon based, so it's pricier
15:08 furrywolf if it requires a thermal difference, it's probably just seeback/thermoelectric, not like visible pv. heh.
15:08 katsmeow-afk you can make them of dissimilar wire too, 50 yrs ago ussr had a dandy lil one to sit on top of kerosene lamps and power small radios
15:09 furrywolf cheap peltier units do a pretty decent job as generators
15:09 katsmeow-afk it's like visable in that: it's non-contact input, it's for focussed high temp arrays or high temp storage, you get dc out with no moving parts
15:12 furrywolf but it's working on a temperature differential, not directly converting incoming IR to electricity, right? the incoming IR is used to heat something, and then it makes the power from the heat?
15:13 katsmeow-afk well, yeas, but the visable pv is also working on a difference, tween light on the input side and dark on the back side
15:13 furrywolf not really...
15:13 katsmeow-afk put dark on both sides and see if you get any power out!
15:13 furrywolf they'd be perfectly happy if there was light on the back side too, and make more power. :)
15:13 katsmeow-afk </joke>
15:14 furrywolf find a way to make thermal cameras not stupidly expensive, while you're at it.
15:15 tsmeow-afk argues more than it's dark inside the atoms, because photons cannot get in, and when you try to force one in, it makes p
15:15 katsmeow-afk they are ~$500 on sale on ebay sometimes
15:15 furrywolf right, and visible light cameras are $5.
15:16 katsmeow-afk and i know it's dark because no one has seen inside an atom with visable light
15:16 katsmeow-afk </joke>
15:16 furrywolf if you keep up jokes like that, I'll need to find out if you're ticklish. :P
15:16 katsmeow-afk oops
15:17 furrywolf I wonder how I can make a non-fire-hazard automatic damper that works with a regular mechanical thermostat...
15:18 katsmeow-afk so if i don't wanna put chlorine or uv lamp into the water tank / swimming pool, becaise either will damage the tank, what can i do to make stuff not grow in there?
15:18 katsmeow-afk glyphosate?
15:18 katsmeow-afk easy: flapper on servo
15:18 furrywolf ciculate the water through a seperate uv unit.
15:19 katsmeow-afk that will only kill the stuff ini the water, not the stuff growing on the sides of the pool
15:19 furrywolf that fails the non-fire-hazard part, because the burner could light with the flue shut off.
15:19 furrywolf will ozone damage the tank?
15:19 katsmeow-afk the burner wold light with the thermostat not calling for heat?
15:19 katsmeow-afk it's plastic, i think everything damages it, that's the problem
15:20 furrywolf no, a mechanical, no-electricity-needed thermostat, like found on every non-expensive gas water heater.
15:20 furrywolf the ones that only use electricity to hold open the valve from the pilot thermocouple.
15:20 katsmeow-afk oh, those things
15:21 katsmeow-afk glyphosate is a modded sugar, it kills plants , does it hurt mammals?
15:21 furrywolf yes
15:21 katsmeow-afk why?
15:21 katsmeow-afk damn
15:21 katsmeow-afk <sigh>
15:22 furrywolf is it thin plastic, like sheet, or a heavy poly tank?
15:22 furrywolf I know the big water tanks can be chlorinated and ozonated with no problems...
15:23 katsmeow-afk can you open the mechnical module and insert an optical position sensor to trigger a damper?
15:23 katsmeow-afk it's $99 ebay special thin multilayer plastic, i expect to last till winter this year
15:23 furrywolf most plastics are ok with moderate levels of chlorine or ozone... consider how strong the chlorine in your average swimming pool or hot tub is, with all plastic plumbing, filters, etc.
15:23 furrywolf ah
15:24 katsmeow-afk by then, i should have a 1000 gal steel tank inside where it won't freeze, and i can reconsider the outside pool idea for next year
15:25 furrywolf take a corner, dump bleach on it, see how long it lasts?
15:25 katsmeow-afk umm, right, how much less water will the pool hold with only one corner (it's a round pool) eaten away?
15:26 furrywolf oh, I thought you got the plastic as a square roll and made something with it.
15:26 katsmeow-afk i have considered that also
15:27 furrywolf as I said, most plastics can take a bit of chlorine... I wouldn't rule out chlorinating it without testing, or looking up the plastic.
15:29 furrywolf if it was sold as a pool, it has to be able to take chlorine, as you use a LOT of it in pools.
15:29 furrywolf vinyl pool liners last 5-10 years of it...
15:29 katsmeow-afk this was $95 when i got it, real cheap for holding 2000 gallons of water : http://www.ebay.com/itm/290488866467
15:30 furrywolf I'd say you could put chlorine in that, just because you have to with a pool.
15:31 furrywolf I'd also say it won't last very long with or without chlorine. :)
15:31 katsmeow-afk true, one cat or god or squirrel or falling pine cone, and am out of water, and have burned pump seals
15:32 furrywolf their description is bunk... it says using chlorine will shorten its life, but it also says to use their expensive saltwater system... which works by MAKING CHLORINE...
15:33 katsmeow-afk 99 cent 3hp pump free shipping : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pentair-Intelliflo-Variable-Speed-Swimming-Pool-Pump-3-HP-011018-/290711616170?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43afc33aaa
15:33 katsmeow-afk how bad is chlorine for the RO membrane?
15:34 furrywolf I didn't know those pools were so cheap... if I ever move to a place hot enough to want to go in the water and without a lake or ocean anywhere near, I'd consider it. :)
15:34 furrywolf very, very bad. that's why there's always carbon filters before them.
15:34 katsmeow-afk they are even cheaper if you buy a tarp and sew it up and then paint it's insides with latex
15:35 furrywolf put a uv light in it... it can't be much worse than being outside in the sun, and it seems to survive that. :)
15:36 katsmeow-afk is this going to block the chlorine? : http://www.ebay.com/itm/170698557727
15:36 katsmeow-afk at 0.5 microns, it's like one of those filters tht screw onto kitchen faucets
15:37 furrywolf only activated carbon filters remove chlorine, and they have a quite finite life when doing so.
15:37 furrywolf and they don't give you a warning when they're done, they just stop removing it...
15:37 katsmeow-afk ok, it says it's activated carbon
15:37 katsmeow-afk oh
15:37 furrywolf so if you're going to be ROing the water from the pool, probably best to avoid the chlorine.
15:38 DanFrederiksen RO?
15:38 katsmeow-afk but it's forest water, it's biologically active
15:38 furrywolf uv or ozonation both work, and are reasonably inexpensive.
15:39 furrywolf if the liner is pvc, it should be reasonably uv resistant. at least, pvc pipes seem to be, and it's supposed to be out in the sun.
15:39 DanFrederiksen ah reverse osmosis
15:40 katsmeow-afk so dunk a uv lamp into it? how do i know the lamp's ratings i need?
15:40 furrywolf no clue.
15:40 furrywolf usually uv is done by passing the water through a unit, not the whole tank...
15:41 katsmeow-afk right
15:41 furrywolf get what's cheap; if it turns green, get bigger? :)
15:41 katsmeow-afk make the uv lamps swim around the tank, praps?
15:41 furrywolf I'd be tempted to keep it in the exact middle, to minimize the exposure of the plastic, just to be sure.
15:42 katsmeow-afk that's 7ft from the walls, i think the uv won't get even a foot in the water
15:43 furrywolf bbl, time to head off to work.
15:45 katsmeow-afk be safe
17:01 SolarNRG Good evening
17:02 Steffanx Good morning
17:02 SolarNRG It is Morning in Australia, of course
17:02 Steffanx I'm not from Australia though
17:03 SolarNRG Where u from?
17:07 Tom_itx Goodmorning Vietnam!!!
17:08 Tom_itx said Robin Williams
17:08 Steffanx The country South East from you SolarNRG
17:08 Steffanx more east than south
17:10 SolarNRG Germany?
17:10 SolarNRG Denmark?
17:10 SolarNRG Czech?
17:10 SolarNRG Swisserland
17:10 Steffanx Uhm, isn't there are country between Germany and GB?
17:10 SolarNRG Belgium
17:10 SolarNRG Holland
17:10 SolarNRG Lux
17:10 SolarNRG France
17:10 Steffanx Uhm, The Netherlands :P
17:10 SolarNRG Sealand
17:10 SolarNRG Oh the land of pot and hookers
17:11 SolarNRG And windmills
17:11 SolarNRG and wooden shoes
17:11 Steffanx Holland, why people use that all the time?
17:11 SolarNRG Actually although its legal, a lot of Dutch I know don't smoke it
17:11 Steffanx Not legal
17:12 Steffanx It's tolerated, not legal
17:14 SolarNRG Come on, you have pot menus there
17:14 effanx sends SolarNRG some 'Spacec
17:16 Steffanx but i never tried it, and probably never will
17:19 SolarNRG I guess when its illegal its a way of saying fingers to the government and being a bit rebellious, when its legal there's just no point
17:20 katsmeow-afk unless you need it medicinally, or use it like social drinking
17:22 katsmeow-afk Typically, UVA is considered to account for 6.3 % and UVB for 1.5 % of the total solar extraterrestrial radiation while infrared and visible fluxes represent respectively 52.8 %, 38.9 % of the solar flux
17:29 katsmeow-afk so of the best conversion of any IR or visable energy to electricity, for IR the absolute best would be 52.8% of all energy in a given area, and for visable PV it would be 38.9% of all incoming energy in a given area
17:29 katsmeow-afk that sucks
17:30 katsmeow-afk we need a visable pv panel that we can make glow red hot so we can take the IR off the back of it while it's front makes power from the visable light
17:30 katsmeow-afk get on that for us, won't you SolarNRG?
17:31 katsmeow-afk a good point to start is 10 suns of intensity
17:31 katsmeow-afk thank you
17:34 SolarNRG Well you might get away with a highly efficient PV with concentrated solar energy on, i.e. a CIGS PV sheet
17:34 SolarNRG Maybe you could again increase teh efficiency with peltier cells on the back
17:34 katsmeow-afk peltier cells are under 8% , right?
17:35 SolarNRG sure, but if you're CIGS does 30%
17:35 SolarNRG and the 70% is wasted as heat
17:35 SolarNRG Of that 70%, about 8% is again turned to electric
17:35 katsmeow-afk but the point it to convert that heat to electric
17:35 tsmeow-afk s
17:35 SolarNRG so 5.6% boost to total efficiency
17:35 SolarNRG or 35.6 percent efficiency in total
17:36 SolarNRG Which is very good
17:36 katsmeow-afk at more than double the cost
17:36 SolarNRG Peltiers are not cheap, neither are CIGS
17:36 SolarNRG By CIGS I mean Copper Indium Gallium Selenide
17:36 katsmeow-afk well, fix that problem for us, and save the world, ok?
17:38 tsmeow-afk is concerned about CDOM on UVR in
17:47 SolarNRG U guys ever worked with polycarbonate?
18:04 Tom_itx ok, what size resistor do i need for an average led so it will work at 53v?
18:11 Tom_itx Alabama water utility: http://i47.tinypic.com/97qzcw.jpg
18:16 SolarNRG rafioacrrtiv?
18:20 Tom_itx katsmeow-afk
18:20 Tom_itx how can i check these caps
18:21 katsmeow-afk chek them for that condition?
18:23 Tom_itx just to make sure they charge ok before i solder them in
18:23 Tom_itx i'll just plug em into the supply and test each one
18:24 katsmeow-afk got a signal generator?
18:24 Tom_itx no
18:24 katsmeow-afk or a low volt transformer?
18:24 Tom_itx not really
18:25 katsmeow-afk an ac supply of any kind, other than a wall outlet?
18:27 katsmeow-afk ok, i filled the pool tank on May 10, and since have flushed the toilet a dozen+ times, washed two loads of clothes in a large washer, washed my hair 3 times, and on May 14 have more water in the pool than i put in it 4 days ago
18:27 katsmeow-afk at this rate, it's going to overflow in a few weeks
18:39 katsmeow-afk Tom, got a probe cal signal on the front of your oscope?
18:42 katsmeow-afk anyhow, if you have an ac signal from somewhere, prefereably 60 hz, measuer the ac current thru it with your dvm,, use a current limit resistor as needed to keep current under 500ma per 1000ufd
18:42 Tom_itx yeah
18:42 katsmeow-afk you may wanna keep it under 50ma even
18:43 katsmeow-afk k, for the scope cal signal, use a high value resistor,, i dunno your scope, but some scopes have 50ohm inputs and can drive 50ohms with their test cal signal, some cannot
18:44 katsmeow-afk all the caps should read the same current
18:45 katsmeow-afk this is not a pricey meter, and has a cap meter and an ac current measure in it : http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=dt9205*&_sacat=See-All-Categories
18:46 Tom_itx i got a cap tester
18:46 katsmeow-afk then why did you ask me about cap testing?
18:46 Tom_itx i dunno
18:46 Tom_itx i forgot i had it?
18:46 katsmeow-afk oh
18:46 Tom_itx it just checks for capacitance though i think
18:47 katsmeow-afk capacitance is the property of it holding power
18:48 katsmeow-afk a cap that says 1000u on it's side , but that reads 43u on the meter, is an open cap and you should toss it
18:48 katsmeow-afk same if it reads 32u
18:48 katsmeow-afk or 16.5u
18:49 katsmeow-afk the more under what it says it is, the worse shape it is in
18:49 Tom_itx yeah
18:49 Tom_itx now i gotta find the meter
18:49 katsmeow-afk oh
18:55 SolarNRG RIGHT IM DOWNLOADING IRON SKY
18:57 katsmeow-afk test equipment you'd want in the desert ==>> Potable LCD Digital Pocket MULTITESTER Multimeter <<== it's potable, you can drink it
18:58 ace4016 hehe
19:12 Tom_itx is 3.0 mF good for a 2200 uF cap?
19:17 Tom_itx ok the worst one was 2.99 mF and the best was 3.06 mF
19:17 Tom_itx they're all 2200 µF caps
19:17 Tom_itx i think i'll solder em in
19:34 Skwint they sound like 3000µF to me Tom :p
20:18 katsmeow-afk sounds like the tester may need calibrating, 3000u is outside the spec of +20/-10% , or someone had a pile of 3000u caps and they had an order for 2200u that they had to fill
20:41 katsmeow-afk It is known as UV degradation, and is one form of polymer degradation. Sensitive polymers include thermoplastics, such as polypropylene, polyethylene, and poly(methyl methacrylate) as well as speciality fibers like aramids.
20:42 Tom_itx i think i'll use a 10k r on the led
20:43 katsmeow-afk hmm?
20:43 Tom_itx seems about the 'right' brightness
20:43 Tom_itx 50v
20:43 Tom_itx 10k r
20:43 katsmeow-afk 5ma
20:43 Tom_itx approx i think
20:44 Tom_itx dunno the specs on these leds
20:44 katsmeow-afk 50 / 10,000 = .005 = 5ma
20:44 Tom_itx hope a smt r will work
20:44 Tom_itx that's the pad i used
20:44 katsmeow-afk no
20:45 katsmeow-afk .005 amps x 50v drop = .25 watts
20:45 Tom_itx you think it'll burn up?
20:45 Tom_itx mmm
20:46 katsmeow-afk i'd use two 5k 1/4w resistors
20:46 katsmeow-afk they'll get warm
20:46 Tom_itx the 1 10k didn't
20:46 katsmeow-afk or, use a smt switcher to get from 50v down to 2v
20:47 Tom_itx this is to drain the caps
20:47 Tom_itx that's it
20:47 katsmeow-afk oh, it wasn't on long enough to get warm , ok
20:47 Tom_itx well, it will be probably
20:47 katsmeow-afk in that case, i dunno if the smd will work, it might, i dunno
20:47 Tom_itx you don't think the pcb will disapate enough?
20:47 katsmeow-afk don't know
20:47 Tom_itx i'll try one
20:47 furrywolf blah. since my savings are running rather low these days, I figured I'd sign up for a credit card, just in case something unexpected came up. they turned me down. reason: no credit history. seriously, they actually said that because I have no credit, they won't give me any credit. catch 22 there...
20:48 furrywolf because I've managed to live this long without ever going into debt, clearly I'm irresponsible.
20:48 katsmeow-afk furry, get a store credit card, but beware they are often 25% intrest, so pay it off asap
20:49 furrywolf I don't plan on ever using it. heh.
20:49 katsmeow-afk if you have a store and gas card for a yr, others will give you cards to bury yourself in some real debt
20:49 ace4016 you have to use a cc to have credit witha cc
20:50 ace4016 you won't get charged interest or anything if you pay off the balance every month...but most people are dumb and don't do that
20:51 furrywolf again, I don't plan on ever removing it from my wallet, unless something unexpected comes up.
20:51 katsmeow-afk ace, you cannot convince im
20:52 furrywolf they offered me a secured credit card... for only a $300 deposit, they'll let me borrow up to $300, at 29% interested. he didn't seem surprised I pointed out this was utterly ludicrious.
20:52 katsmeow-afk furry, you should charge $5 or $10 each month and pay the bill off when it comes
20:52 furrywolf s/interested/interest
20:52 furrywolf charge it on what?
20:52 katsmeow-afk [20:39] <katsmeow-afk> furry, get a store credit card, but beware they are often 25% intrest, so pay it off asap
20:53 ace4016 the interest doesn't matter if you pay off the balance every month
20:53 katsmeow-afk walmart, sears-kmart, etc often give away cards
20:53 furrywolf what the hell is a store credit card?
20:53 ace4016 it's a credit card offered by the sotre
20:53 katsmeow-afk <blink>
20:53 katsmeow-afk so you'll buy things in their sotre
20:53 ace4016 they back it; which is why you need a lower credit score to get it
20:53 ace4016 but it comes at the price of having a high interest rate...
20:54 ace4016 there's usually discounts you get using the card
20:54 furrywolf there's no walmart here, I never buy anything at sears (I just go there to replace craftsman tools),...
20:54 rue_mohr furrywolf, they will hate you for not using it
20:55 rue_mohr put a surplus on it and pay the money with it
20:55 katsmeow-afk if you want credit, you haveto play the money game
20:55 rue_mohr they cant charge you interest and it earns credits
20:55 furrywolf and sears is going out of business, or something. I went in there a while ago to try getting a vise replaced (they said no), and half the shelves were empty, with big piles with 50% off signs.
20:56 ace4016 lol
20:56 ace4016 there will be no sears soon; just kmarts
20:56 furrywolf apparantly despite being a hand tool, vises are not hand tools, and thus are not covered by the lifetime warranty.
20:56 ace4016 funny thing is that kmart has been bankrupt and going out of business for a while...then sears bought them and sears went down...
20:56 ace4016 what a cursed company
20:56 katsmeow-afk no, Kmart bought Sears!
20:57 ace4016 ah
20:57 katsmeow-afk that's why Sears went downhill
20:57 katsmeow-afk even tho they are stillt o high priced on everything
20:57 ace4016 i feel like the reason why all these old companies are failing is because they don't keep up with the times
20:57 katsmeow-afk JC Penny's is in trouble now too
20:58 ace4016 hehe, too expensive to play the common man's high end store?
20:58 furrywolf sears also really pissed me off, because they now ask for receipts to replace craftsman tools, despite craftsman explicitly saying on their website that you don't need it.
20:58 katsmeow-afk Woolworths has been in trouble many times, and JM Fields dies decades ago
20:58 ace4016 woolswirth is still around?
20:58 katsmeow-afk i believe so
20:58 rrywolf doesn't go to department st
20:58 Tom_itx not here
20:58 furrywolf I like small local businesses. better prices, much better service.
20:58 ace4016 it went out of business a decade ago in south florida; haven't heard or seen one since
20:59 ace4016 over a decade actually...
20:59 ace4016 a lot of local business here are theives :/
20:59 katsmeow-afk small businesses here were to rip people off and not ever carry what epople wanted
20:59 ace4016 they charge more than the big boys, and the service is worse; but i guess that's because it's NC
20:59 ace4016 they ride on the whole "i'm a local business so you should support me"
21:00 ace4016 so i say screw them and order online
21:00 ace4016 most things have free shipping if you're not in a rush
21:00 ace4016 better return policies, and i get tons of feedback before i buy something :D
21:02 furrywolf lol! apparantly some secured credit cards are even worse than the one they offered me... on some, your credit limit is LESS than your deposit.
21:02 katsmeow-afk and a much bigger variety
21:02 ace4016 some local companies are nice and helpful though...seems rare though as customer service sucks these days at most places
21:02 katsmeow-afk furry, PLUS a monthly fee, PLUS a non-refundable startup cost
21:02 furrywolf I like the local hardware store. they have just about everything you could ever need, and everyone is helpful.
21:04 katsmeow-afk a local hardware store here sold paint at 2x the cost of store in Bham, and one store tried to sell some stuff at 5x (pots for $30) when Kmart opened and sold them for $15 and HF in Bham sold them for $5
21:04 Tom_itx ok 3 caps installed
21:04 Tom_itx r stays cool so far
21:04 katsmeow-afk that store had a $30 price tag on the pots the day they went out of business and they sold them for scrap
21:06 furrywolf lumber, gardening supplies, hardware, doors/windows, tile, carpet, electrical, locksmithing, plumbing, brick, some machine tool supplies (carbide mills, for example), paint, outdoor gear, fasteners, air tools, power tools, welding supplies, gears/sprockets/chain/pulleys/other project supplies, etc, etc, etc...
21:06 Tom_itx wtf
21:07 katsmeow-afk hmm?
21:07 Tom_itx kat
21:07 katsmeow-afk tom
21:07 Tom_itx just a sec
21:07 katsmeow-afk it lit up and poofed?
21:07 Tom_itx no
21:07 Tom_itx i need to check something before i ask though
21:07 katsmeow-afk k

21:11 katsmeow-afk yeas?
21:11 furrywolf several of the stores I shop at have charge accounts, but they're just local in-store things, and I doubt they're reported to any of the credit people unless you piss them off.
21:12 Tom_itx kat or rue, i need to take off the input cap (16v) on that because the supply is 25v. will the 2200 uf cap be enough for the input there you think?
21:12 katsmeow-afk furry, but *you* can add them to your credit report
21:12 Tom_itx on that switcher i just posted
21:12 Tom_itx i'm gonna use that for my logic supply
21:13 katsmeow-afk you are asking if replacing a 2200u cap with a 2200u cap is ok?
21:13 Tom_itx but feeding it is a 25v source
21:13 Tom_itx no
21:13 Tom_itx the 220 uf cap 16v on the board
21:13 rue_mohr you rated the input inductor for that right?
21:13 Tom_itx i gotta take that off
21:13 furrywolf this whole thing is absurd... what kind of idiot decided that not having credit means you shouldn't be given credit, creating a barrier?
21:13 Tom_itx rue, yes
21:13 furrywolf I think I'll just keep living without credit.
21:13 rue_mohr if the inductor isn't large enough it cant take the votlage diff witout saturating
21:13 katsmeow-afk so replacing a 220u with a 2200u ?
21:14 furrywolf I'd live without a bank account too if it wasn't for ebay making me have one.
21:14 Tom_itx kat, basically yes
21:14 katsmeow-afk it's fine, but if the input is 25v, you need a 35v cap
21:14 Tom_itx i'm using the same 63v ones
21:14 rue_mohr furrywolf, find a stupid bank, the current world economy is driven by giving out credit that they know people cant keep up with and then making money selling the bad credit to major banks that get bailed out by the government
21:15 katsmeow-afk and rue is right, the electronics will need to be able to make a narrower pulse width to switch down from the higher volts
21:15 katsmeow-afk 63v is fine
21:15 Tom_itx yeah i'll check it
21:15 Tom_itx but i think it's ok
21:16 katsmeow-afk you silkscreened the volts, next batch add the amps too ?
21:17 Tom_itx http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm2596.pdf
21:17 rue_mohr runt eh design calculator again and make sure your nductor is good for the voltage
21:18 rue_mohr 2:1 input range is usually odd, if you designed it to go as low as 10V I'd be surprised if it can take 24
21:19 cjgaus hey guys :D
21:19 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/pdf/LM2596_switcher.pdf
21:19 Tom_itx that may be the same one but it's the one i used iirc
21:19 katsmeow-afk it says for 5v out, 7v-to-40v in and 0.2amp-to-3amp out , it's good
21:20 Tom_itx yeah
21:20 Tom_itx i know the input v is good
21:21 Tom_itx http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/DR125-680-R/513-1386-1-ND/1245395
21:21 Tom_itx the inductor
21:21 Tom_itx i have several values of those
21:23 katsmeow-afk Fig 2 recommends when you double the input volts you double the inductor
21:24 katsmeow-afk page 12 of the Ti link
21:25 katsmeow-afk charts on page 16
21:25 Tom_itx yeah that's what i was looking for
21:27 Tom_itx max load current goes down but i think it's within spec
21:27 Tom_itx i'm not needing much current
21:28 Tom_itx i'm not sure what the other values i have are
21:28 Tom_itx 47µF
21:29 Tom_itx H
21:29 Tom_itx sry
21:29 Tom_itx i didn't get any 33
21:29 Tom_itx 47 would be better for this probably
21:31 Tom_itx i seriously doubt i draw anywhere close to an amp
21:32 Tom_itx it's usb powered currently
21:32 Tom_itx i could leave it that way but prefer not to
21:33 katsmeow-afk yo know, if required, you can put a diy linear regulator before that switcher to drop the 50v down to someting less
21:33 Tom_itx figure 5 on P17 puts it in the 1.5 to 2A raged with the part i have on it
21:33 Tom_itx range*
21:34 Tom_itx kat, i'm using the centertap to get 25v for this input
21:34 katsmeow-afk it could be much less precise, and could even be switchered with a dip8 dual comparators
21:34 katsmeow-afk oh, ok
21:34 Tom_itx on just one transformer
21:34 tsmeow-afk
21:34 Tom_itx that was the extra diode pack under the alum C channel
21:34 Tom_itx so at 25v in i think i'm good
21:35 katsmeow-afk ok
21:35 Tom_itx i was just wondering about pulling the cap off the board since it's only 16v and just using one of the 2200 uf caps instead
21:35 Tom_itx i think it'll be ok
21:36 Tom_itx just wanted a 2nd opinion
21:36 katsmeow-afk it's more capacitance than you need, for sure, but that's not a problem
21:36 Tom_itx well yeah, but i just had them
21:36 tsmeow-afk
21:37 Tom_itx i think i need to move the xfrmrs on the alum though
21:37 Tom_itx so i have room to mount the caps
21:38 katsmeow-afk but you have one end with nohint mounted there
21:38 Tom_itx i think i'll line them up in front of the xfrmrs
21:38 Tom_itx not enough room there
21:38 Tom_itx 9 caps
21:38 Tom_itx 6 would fit
21:39 katsmeow-afk from all i am reading, sunlight UV will sterilize or kill stuff down to 10ft clean water easily, meaning there shold be ZERO stuff growing in my 2ft pool, but there is stuff growning in it
21:39 cjgaus hey guys i am having a problem with my robot control
21:40 katsmeow-afk well, don't put them where heat from transformers or diode blocks heat the caps
21:40 Tom_itx yeah, i'll figure something out
21:40 tsmeow-afk leaves cjgaus to the
21:40 cjgaus rather then posting code here ill give u the link to my post on lets make robots forum
21:40 cjgaus http://letsmakerobots.com/node/29566
21:41 cjgaus sorry I mean guys and girls
21:41 cjgaus sorry kats
21:41 Tom_itx you need enable
21:41 Tom_itx or set it to gnd or +v whichever the driver requires
21:42 cjgaus ive got my enable connected to +5volts of the arduino
21:42 Tom_itx i haven't used the L293 but i bet plenty here have
21:43 Tom_itx are you using a 9v battery?
21:44 cjgaus the l293d is powered by a 9volt battery
21:44 tsmeow-afk tries to buy some plymouth rocks from cj
21:44 cjgaus the arduino is powered via usb
21:44 Tom_itx stop that right now! they have absolutely no staying power
21:44 rrywolf won't help with arduino anyth
21:44 katsmeow-afk oh dog, yo cannotr un motors off a 9v battery
21:45 Tom_itx start off by getting a decent supply for the motors
21:45 Tom_itx those batteries will go dead quickly and cause you alot of undue trouble
21:45 cjgaus running 6 x 1.4 aa batteries in a pack
21:46 cjgaus not a single 9volt battery
21:46 cjgaus 1.5 volts sorry
21:46 Tom_itx that's somewhat better but you still need to make sure they don't go dead on you while you're testing
21:46 Tom_itx will cause the same grief
21:46 cjgaus oh they dont i have a switched hooked up to my l293d module so that when its not in use i switch it off
21:47 cjgaus the l293d module i am using is from rkeducation
21:47 cjgaus http://www.rkeducation.co.uk/documents/instructions/L293DpcbComponentListandInstructions.pdf
21:47 cjgaus thats a link to the schematics
21:47 Tom_itx also, i'm guessing IN1 should be inverted to IN2 signal
21:48 Tom_itx depending on how you wire it
21:48 Tom_itx as do IN3 and IN4
21:48 Tom_itx that looks like the same pinout as the 754410
21:49 Tom_itx when IN1 is high, IN2 should be low
21:49 Tom_itx and enable active
21:49 Tom_itx pwm IN1 and IN2
21:49 Tom_itx with opposite signals
21:50 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/sumo_files/16F876_control_sch.jpg
21:50 Tom_itx very similar setup
21:50 cjgaus enable is always active as its connected to +5
21:50 Tom_itx only that's a pic driving that
21:52 Tom_itx same idea, that's a 754410 chip i used though
21:52 Tom_itx the gates there are used to invert the pwm signal to the opposing input
21:53 Tom_itx the arduino may have OCRx and the inverse of that as available outputs
21:54 Tom_itx it would be indicated in the avr data sheet for the chip
21:54 cjgaus did you see my code on the forum
21:54 Tom_itx didn't look
21:54 Tom_itx don't need to
21:54 cjgaus ok
21:54 Tom_itx i'm giving you enough info to make it work
21:54 Tom_itx the avr is probably a mega328 right?
21:55 Tom_itx get the atmega328 data sheet from atmel and figure out what ouputs are inverted pwm
21:56 cjgaus ok thanks tom will do
21:56 Tom_itx it may or may not support that feature on that chip, i forget
21:56 katsmeow-afk http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-18066615 <<== i think dedicated assembly robots could do it faster
21:56 Tom_itx if it doesn't, get an inverter of some sort and use it
21:57 Tom_itx there are other ways to wire the motor driver but that's what i did
21:58 Tom_itx that method is known as LAP or Locked AntiPhase
21:58 Tom_itx the other method is Sign Magnitude
21:58 Tom_itx you can also look those terms up and figure them out
23:53 rrywolf curls up next to kat for bed
23:55 tsmeow-afk sttrreeeeEEEEeeetttccchhees
23:56 rrywolf uses kat's tail for a pi
23:57 tsmeow-afk feels a lil odd aboutt
23:58 katsmeow-afk [12:02] <sw0rdfish> a yiff!
23:59 furrywolf looking for a soft pillow != yiffing.
23:59 katsmeow-afk i know, i still think that was funny
23:59 tsmeow-afk puts on her humansuit to go out and argue abou
23:59 katsmeow-afk heh
