00:11 furrywolf for the r/o or for the main system?
00:11 katsmeow-afk ro
00:12 katsmeow-afk i have a bladder tank on the main
00:12 furrywolf ebay. heh.
00:12 furrywolf you can also get a boiler expansion tank, if they have those cheaper.
00:13 katsmeow-afk the ebay tanks are definately cheaper, even with shipping
00:13 katsmeow-afk i am thinking using one of the recycled water heater tanks, but that almost defeats the point of making the RO water
00:13 rrywolf flops onto kat's lap for bed
00:13 furrywolf you need a bladder... air-over-water tends to diffuse quickly.
00:14 furrywolf and I need sleep. wolfy bedtime.
00:14 katsmeow-afk and bladders taste like rubber
00:14 furrywolf some of them use a poly bag instead of a rubber bladder.
00:15 furrywolf basically just a heavy-wall plastic bag attached to the fitting, with air over it.
00:15 furrywolf when you pump water in, it fills the bag.
00:15 tsmeow-afk k
00:15 furrywolf probably could stick a contractor trash bag inside a random tank, if you wanted to diy it. :)
00:16 katsmeow-afk a big exercise baloon
00:17 rrywolf has a vac-u-lock ez-rider ball, that's kinda like an exercise balloo
00:17 furrywolf bbl, bedtime
00:19 katsmeow-afk i think i'll just put a 40 gal tank with an air filter on it up really high, but then i'd need a water level cutoff, but i'd have 40 gallons, i could easily rinse all dishes with giardia-free water
00:23 katsmeow-afk 40 gal of RO water, i need a tank to store all the bypass water too, not going to waste it :-/
00:23 katsmeow-afk else, i haveto find a free way to pump 250gal of free water up to the house every day
00:24 furrywolf shurflo diaphragm pump and solar panels
00:24 furrywolf bbl
00:26 katsmeow-afk happy sleeps
05:00 zhanx morning
05:33 SolarNRG Waa :*( My wax gear came out all funny
05:36 Steffanx Funny as in …

05:40 SolarNRG See for yourself
06:46 katsmeow-afk you didn't have adequate support for the latex, dija?
06:46 SolarNRG NOPE
06:47 katsmeow-afk will you have adequate support next time?
06:47 SolarNRG This is what happened to my support: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89T23XBepfw
06:49 katsmeow-afk umm, that mess should be outside where you can put it all in the bin ,, and get a rubber mallet, but then if you had a multipiece outer mold support, it would have been a simple matter to release the clamps and it fal off
06:51 katsmeow-afk get a hacksaw, cut the outer support down to the latex
06:51 katsmeow-afk when you clamp it all back up next time, put some card stock or other shims in the saw kerfs
06:52 katsmeow-afk wax is very hard to get completely off stuff
06:53 katsmeow-afk you *really* should have heard us all say to do that outside
06:54 katsmeow-afk in fact, your workspace is becoming hazardous
06:56 Steffanx Don't you like it katsmeow-afk ?
06:56 katsmeow-afk waz poured down the front of the drawers, and plaster of paris on the floor? no
06:57 Steffanx I think it's a nice video for the funniest home videos :P
06:57 katsmeow-afk that might work, lol
07:08 katsmeow-afk solar, praps before you do something that you'll later ask for help with the mess about, saying Lexi is going to kill you, you get real concerned that she might put you in a day home every time she leaves the house now
07:10 SolarNRG A day home?
07:10 katsmeow-afk someplace she can leave you for someone to look after you, so you stop doing dangerous things with her kitchen appliances
07:11 SolarNRG dangerous?
07:11 SolarNRG I cleaned it all up
07:11 katsmeow-afk pouring hot wax all over things, yup
07:11 SolarNRG That was plaster of paris
07:11 katsmeow-afk making the floor slick with plaster of paris
07:11 SolarNRG The hot wax all went in the cast
07:11 katsmeow-afk ok
07:12 katsmeow-afk you and i know it's all ok, she might not know that
07:12 katsmeow-afk well, not ok, i'd still do it outside where the mess is less of a immediate bother

07:18 katsmeow-afk (you cannot lead an irc msg with spaces, but i did :-) )
07:19 katsmeow-afk      hmm
07:19 Steffanx if you say so
07:20 katsmeow-afk kool
07:21 katsmeow-afk some places don't, some places do,, it's like you can't //join #testtest1 $+ $chr(160) $+ #testtest2 any more either
07:22 katsmeow-afk people would //join #testtest1 $+ $chr(160) $+ @#freenode
07:22 katsmeow-afk and it would look like in their whois thay'd be op'd in #freenode
07:22 katsmeow-afk back when a whois mattered
07:23 katsmeow-afk some irc nets allow &channelname too,, or was it %channelname ?
07:25 katsmeow-afk they would be local channels, only on the server you were on, and not spread across the irc network that server was connected to
07:31 SolarNRG My gear does mesh
07:31 SolarNRG But it is crap
07:31 SolarNRG I'd like to do RTV next
07:31 SolarNRG Maybe that'll be better
09:48 furrywolf those weren't spaces. they were some improperly encoded (i.e. not utf8) characters that showed as "?"s here. :P
09:49 furrywolf real spaces weren't a problem last I checked...
11:36 rue_mohr furrywolf, you should get a client that can do proper unicode :)
11:36 furrywolf my client does utf8 just fine.
11:36 Steffanx => <= REAL spaces
11:37 Steffanx
11:38 furrywolf ☠☢☣
11:39 furrywolf and I have a reasonably complete font... so if it's rendering as a ?, I'll assume it was encoded wrong, unless shown otherwise. :)
11:40 furrywolf hrmm, what's a good time to bug a random person on saturday morning: 9:30 ok, or wait for 10? heh.
11:41 furrywolf encoded wrong typically comes from windows machines that default to whatever their nonstandard codepage is, rather than proper unicode.
12:25 katsmeow-afk in mirc, you can choose the font displayed, i dunno thelatest and greatest mirc, but i doubt it can determine the sender's choice of font used
12:26 katsmeow-afk last i read, there's no irc standard for sending font data
12:26 dunz0r It /should/ be UTF8 though.
12:26 dunz0r Or possibly UTF16.
12:26 furrywolf unicode in utf8 is pretty standard these days
12:26 katsmeow-afk it has always been ascii afaik
12:26 furrywolf bbl
12:27 dunz0r katsmeow-afk: Until people needed more than just the the standard ascii-codepage it was.
12:27 katsmeow-afk there's more than one utf8 encoding for unicode, just as there are many non-8bit unicodes
12:32 katsmeow-afk even in dos, pre-win95, iirc the point of a 8bit unicode was you mostly use the standard 7bit ascii , then you define the upper 128 (more or less) chars however you wish, or to someone else's wish, such as some agreed-upon "standard"
12:33 katsmeow-afk this was to avoid switching to 16bits per character, which many many char lookup video text terminals could not handle
12:33 katsmeow-afk ditto printers
12:35 katsmeow-afk i myself redefined 2 of the chars up there to a bitmap for the male and female circle-cross-arrow symbols, which my video screen and printer happily accepted
12:36 katsmeow-afk Borland redefined some to be window outline segments, which, strangely, M$ Windows looked like when it came out
12:37 tsmeow-afk clarifies a lil: my *dot matrix* printer happily acce
12:37 katsmeow-afk ole Dot was a very versatile printer, but really slow in such mode
12:43 katsmeow-afk the idiot things parents do to their kids : President Obama's mother's full name is Stanley Ann Dunham. Although she used her middle name for the majority of her adult life, Dunham went by Stanley throughout grade school, the name that her father, who wanted a son, gave her.
12:55 ace4016 kats, bit selfish of him
12:55 ace4016 but i guess a name is just a name
13:07 katsmeow-afk parents have gone to worse extremes
13:09 katsmeow-afk two in jail in Alabama for killing a daughter who ate a candybar, they wanted a daughter who didn't eat chocolate
13:09 ace4016 that's just sick :/
13:11 GuShH katsmeow-afk: what?
13:11 GuShH hang them both
13:11 GuShH or force-feed them candybars until they explode
13:12 katsmeow-afk and you think of peace when you think Buddist? : GRAND BAY, Ala. (AP) - Police have charged a Buddhist monk with fatally bludgeoning a temple leader in Grand Bay, Ala.
13:13 katsmeow-afk JEFFERSON COUNTY - AL - Jefferson County school officials tells ABC 33/40 a 6th grade female student at Clay-Chalkville Middle School brought bullets and a picture of a gun to school Friday. <<== show the picture of the gun to the adversary, and then manually insert the bullets into the adversary
13:18 katsmeow-afk GuShH : http://www.myfoxal.com/story/16990061/sheriff-nine-year-old-run-to-death-by-grandmother
13:24 katsmeow-afk the poster on that page signing as "kim" is a typical Alabamian
13:24 tsmeow-afk goes
14:17 katsmeow-afk "The problem is that on a hot day the propane vapour pressure may be more than one of these little canisters can handle. At 80 C, which could be reached under the rear window of a car on a very hot day, the VP of propane is 44 atmospheres or about 650 psi."
14:20 katsmeow-afk so lets say you can condense the propane vapor at 120F on a warm summer day, and heat it with that summer sun to 80C, you have 250psi exit pressure on a piston and 650psi inlet pressure, giving you 400psi to work with on the pistons of your "steam" engine
14:25 katsmeow-afk lets say you grab a car engine block that has 4" pistons, that gives you a power stroke of 5,000 lbs at the 400psi, but of course you wouldn't do that because you'd break things, the poor gasoline engine isn't made for such pressure
14:28 katsmeow-afk with a 12" stroke, low rpm, you'd have 2500 ft-lbs of torque per piston doing a power stroke, which for the V8, you'd have power strokes 45 degrees apart, so figure 3 (1 full, 2 partial strokes at any time), or 5000 ft-lbs, obviously breaking the crankshaft into many pieces and prolly warping the block
14:28 katsmeow-afk so,, what's the solution?
14:29 tsmeow-afk mixed a few numbers, but the illustration of not being able to get a suitable crankshaft rem
14:31 katsmeow-afk Life can be so tragic -- you're here today and here tomorrow.
14:32 katsmeow-afk The chief danger in life is that you may take too many precautions.
14:42 rue_mohr ok400 psi break a crankshaft?
14:43 katsmeow-afk [14:15] <katsmeow-afk> lets say you grab a car engine block that has 4" pistons, that gives you a power stroke of 5,000 lbs at the 400psi,
14:43 katsmeow-afk with a 12 inch stroke
14:44 rue_mohr zippo:/files/graphics# circle -d 4

14:44 rue_mohr Sphere area: 50.265484
14:44 rue_mohr Sphere volume: 33.510323
14:44 katsmeow-afk so not using the car crankshaft, just the pistons
14:44 rue_mohr >>> 12.5*400
14:44 rue_mohr 5000.0
14:44 rue_mohr 2.5 tonnes
14:44 katsmeow-afk that's what i said
14:44 rue_mohr a crankshaft is supported in 4 places across the block, it sould take 2.5 tonne on any crank section
14:45 rue_mohr 5
14:45 katsmeow-afk i seriously doubt that, there was a Cadillac 350 that was notorious for breaking cranks
14:45 katsmeow-afk my neighbor had one
14:46 katsmeow-afk it broke
14:46 rue_mohr crank is 2.5" dia hardened steel less one little 1/8" oil hole yes?
14:46 katsmeow-afk it broke, the back of the engine turned when the starter ran, but the front didn't
14:47 rue_mohr whats your winch rated for?
14:48 katsmeow-afk most are 2500lbs
14:48 rue_mohr 2?
14:49 rue_mohr and whats the pinoins shaft size?
14:49 katsmeow-afk inside the winch? it isn't a worm drive, it's a planetary drive
14:49 rue_mohr I dont disbelieve that the other engine broke, It just seems that any engine in good shape should be ok
14:49 rue_mohr k, but hows the axle size?\
14:50 rue_mohr 1.5"?
14:50 katsmeow-afk oh, no, 1/2 at the small end, it's a "portable" winch
14:50 katsmeow-afk at the big end the ~3" ring gear is the bearing surface
14:51 katsmeow-afk internal tooth
14:53 katsmeow-afk what did the winch haveto do with the steam engine?
14:57 rue_mohr well if the winch uses a 1/2" shaft to carry 2500lb
14:57 katsmeow-afk *carry* , not *torque*
14:57 rue_mohr are the shaft clmps on the engine held on with grade 8 bolts?
14:58 katsmeow-afk the torque gets to the cable reel thru the 3" gear at the otehr end
14:58 katsmeow-afk i think so
15:01 tsmeow-afk goes away again for aw
16:08 SolarNRG I AM DRUNK!
16:09 ace4016 you should sober up, here's some vodka
16:11 katsmeow-afk Tiggr is pondering a vehicle-mounted plaque-removing toothbrush, color me scared
16:11 SolarNRG Vodka! fuk yeah
16:11 SolarNRG IRL im having red stripe to sober up
16:12 katsmeow-afk vodka kills brain cells and hides the problems,, what are you trying to hide?
16:12 SolarNRG That I'm shit at casting gears, I showed my gears to everyone
16:13 SolarNRG Only one person was impressed, the junkies were like yeah yeah yeah show us your gear
16:13 katsmeow-afk so do it right next time
16:13 SolarNRG Then I showed them my spur gear cogs then tehy were like nah nah nah
16:13 katsmeow-afk heck, i am impressed that despite everything people in this channel told you, you still did it wrong
16:14 katsmeow-afk rue, what do you know wbaout these : http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-C-12V-DC-1-2-250mA-Electric-Solenoid-Valve-For-Water-Air-Low-viscosity-Fluid-/170832767982?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item27c66d2bee
16:15 katsmeow-afk it's on the usa ebay site, priced in Canadian money, and the item is in China
16:16 katsmeow-afk the pic and specs don't match
16:16 katsmeow-afk specs say hose barbs, pic shows garden hose threaded fittings
16:16 katsmeow-afk spec says operated by servo, but what's shown is a selenoid
16:17 katsmeow-afk the pic seems to show a checkvalve, but it's not mentioned in specs
16:24 tsmeow-afk peeks over at furrywolf and whispers "doesn't meet s
16:53 katsmeow-afk seriously, every seller of this item has said it has hose barbs and servo motors, which means we could all order 100 of them, and report them as "not as described, fraudulent sale"
16:54 katsmeow-afk must be 100 sellers of this thing, with free shipping even
16:55 katsmeow-afk furry, and many of these sellers are like "virtual-village-usa" or "blahblah-uk" , and are in China
16:57 katsmeow-afk "thamesmall", the Thames river is in UK, the seller is in China tho
17:11 sw0rdfish hey.
17:11 katsmeow-afk hay.
17:30 katsmeow-afk in the olden days, we had "fold down" seats in vans, now they are "stow-n-go", and now there's a "grip-n-go" water valve, and i cannot make sense of that
17:37 GuShH katsmeow-afk: it's all about the buzzwords
17:38 GuShH the product using the most amount of them wins
17:39 katsmeow-afk shame i cannot use 50 1/2" pvc water ball valves at this time, they are $146 at Home Depot in town, and $86 (incl s&h) on ebay atm
17:41 katsmeow-afk bbl
18:13 rue_mohr kat, do you have a full size barrel thats still got its seal?
18:16 katsmeow-afk barrel?
18:19 katsmeow-afk like 55 gal barrel? i never had one that had a seal on a removeable top,, i *might* still have a sealed barrel with 2 2" threaded holes in it's unremoveable top
18:19 katsmeow-afk i don't have any other barrels, unless you mean gun barrel or 5gal bucket
18:21 katsmeow-afk here's anotehr that doesn' meet spec: item main description line says "SPST 2 POLE", the pic shows a single pole : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Heavy-Duty-20A-125V-15A-250V-SPST-2-Pole-Toggle-Switch-/110851056217?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19cf3ce259

19:07 any22443862 so the internet dropped out in practice for the evening
19:09 katsmeow-afk rue, is there any cheaper way to make a captive-water solar collector than to solder roofing tin together? And how do you solder the ends of the corregations?
20:02 zhanx so no shit wind knocked over my canoe
20:02 zhanx 1,000 meter swim later i saved two guys
20:04 zhanx getting a medal now i guess
20:12 zhanx Tom_itx: fyi my camera and lens bag was in the boat when i launched, lost them all
20:25 omegalimit nice zhanx
20:26 sw0rdfish wow!
20:36 ace4016 were the other guys in canoes and couldn't swim?
21:29 DanFrederiksen sounds ill conceived
21:30 DanFrederiksen someone please tell katsmeow-afk that a black garden hose in a box can be a good solar heater
22:10 furrywolf not too much yard sale stuff today... got some nice klien wire strippers and other assorted hand electrical tools, some sockets I didn't have, a big bundle of #8 ricer wire, a gallon of roof patch, and a few other random things.
22:12 furrywolf a nice cast aluminum caulking gun
22:25 katsmeow-afk so you going to make a search and recovery sub now, zhanx?
22:25 katsmeow-afk rue will help

22:44 katsmeow-afk i question if that one will work, and if so then for how much longer
22:44 katsmeow-afk as if you can get parts for it
22:44 furrywolf probably works better and for longer than a brand new one from harbor freight.
22:44 katsmeow-afk note the ball in the 1" drive that holds the sockets on, is missing
22:45 furrywolf damnit, internet connection going crappy.
22:45 tsmeow-afk quits looo
22:46 rrywolf is not a fan of chinese gar
22:46 furrywolf I'd much rather buy a used american tool than a new chinese one. it'll still last longer.
22:46 katsmeow-afk if you don't even know if you need one, then i can't see why you'd buy a huge likely dead one for more money than a new working one with a guarantee
22:46 katsmeow-afk ok
22:47 furrywolf well, I have a 1" one, but it's lower torque than that one.
22:47 furrywolf hence why I'm not sure if I need it. it's more powerful, but I do already have that size.
22:48 katsmeow-afk i have a 1/2 impact driver, and a 1/2 to 3/4 adapter ,, and i still use an 8lb sledge on the 3/4 breakerbar sometimes
22:48 furrywolf I know I need one; I'm just not sure if I need that specific one. :)
22:49 furrywolf bah, now my connection has degraded to where I can't even load craigslist.
22:49 furrywolf which probably means I'll be dropping offline pretty soon.
22:49 katsmeow-afk i cannot telly ou how it pissed me off to have the tools to work on the truck, but haveto pay $1000 to someone to do the work because i wasn't allowed to pour a concrete slab

23:08 furrywolf fixed a car for a friend today... really fucking weird problem. the catalytic converter honeycomb crumbled, and plugged the exhaust pipe solid. so it'd fire once, then instantly stall, and not run again for a minute.
23:09 katsmeow-afk some dual-layer exhaust pipes do that too
23:11 furrywolf the temporary fix was to saw it in half with a sawzall... heh.
23:11 furrywolf we got the pipe unclogged, but we had to cut it into a bunch of pieces to do it, so now it's a welding project. and, of course, the cat is completely hollow.
23:11 katsmeow-afk ack!!
23:12 katsmeow-afk save some time: emt makes fine cheap exhaust pipe
23:13 furrywolf heh
23:13 furrywolf we have all the pieces; they just need to be welded back together. :)
23:13 furrywolf emt would need whole lots of bends.
23:14 katsmeow-afk i tend to save the bends intact, then mumge the end of the emt to fit over or under and apply clamps as needed
23:14 katsmeow-afk the convertor in the car i am driving now is so clogged, the muffler fell off and i didn't notice, last year
23:15 katsmeow-afk i drove a 4ft piece of emt into the pipe where it rusted off, hooked to the rear-most muffler hangar, and it's all good
23:15 furrywolf heh
23:16 furrywolf I'm going to need to make an all new exhaust for my subaru pretty soon.
23:16 furrywolf swapping in an engine that won't line up with the original exhaust, and the original exhaust is rusted to pieces anyway.
23:16 katsmeow-afk what's wrong with the old engine?
23:16 furrywolf (literally rusted to pieces... it broke in the middle, and I fixed it by hammering it into an elbow...)
23:16 furrywolf tired.
23:17 furrywolf burns a lot of oil through the valves, one head has cracks/coolant passage errosion, and then it blew a head gasket too...
23:17 furrywolf exact milage is unknown, probably around 400,000 miles.
23:18 katsmeow-afk i got a 6.5L diesel that's pushing oil up into the intake , i am sorely hoping it's intake valve stem guides leaking, and not piston rings
23:18 furrywolf heh
23:18 furrywolf I got the new engine I'm putting in... it's 12 years newer, and has 1/4 the miles. :)
23:18 furrywolf and .4 more liters, 60 more horsepower, ...
23:19 katsmeow-afk this diesel is going to be hard to replace, being they quit making them for good reason, and partly new decent engines to fit will be $1000's
23:19 katsmeow-afk it's got 218k miles on it
23:20 furrywolf 6.5... *thinks*... not sure I've worked on one of those. chevy?
23:20 katsmeow-afk GM chevy-ish
23:20 furrywolf is that the one where they decided a gas engine block was good enough? :)
23:20 katsmeow-afk 1989, the year after they quit making the 6.4, and they made this 6.5 one yr
23:21 katsmeow-afk no, this is a bigarsed truck engine, this isn't that Olds 350 "diesel"
23:21 furrywolf I might swap a 7.3 diesel into my truck one of these days. but the car comes first, as its engine is failing.
23:21 furrywolf doing a lot of other work on the car at the same time, including swapping in a 5spd high/low transmission.
23:22 katsmeow-afk think i can make a steam engine half the size of this diesel and twice the hp?
23:22 furrywolf I think you can make an _engine_ half the size and twice the hp, but once you include the boiler and other required parts, no.
23:22 katsmeow-afk flash boiler can fit under the frame somewhere else
23:22 katsmeow-afk ditto condensor
23:23 katsmeow-afk those olde Doble boilers were not even a foot cubed
23:23 furrywolf make your own heads to fit the diesel block, grind a cam that operates double beat poppets in your new heads...
23:24 katsmeow-afk for a steam power, i think i want a longer stroke, specially if i can do it in a way to lose the valves entirely
23:25 furrywolf I'm a caprotti fan...
23:25 katsmeow-afk and i am *real* unsure the crank in this engine can handle more than 400 ft-lbs
23:25 furrywolf yeah, and building your engine from scratch would use you use double-acting pistons, for almost twice the power/weight.
23:26 furrywolf let you use
23:26 katsmeow-afk and the opposed pistons do not need to be the same size even, or same stroke
23:26 furrywolf going for compound expansion?
23:26 katsmeow-afk and if they are double-acting, 2 cylinders can replace this V8
23:27 katsmeow-afk dunno, i wanna make a water pumper first, see if i can
23:28 furrywolf I've learned that you're usually better off buying things than making them, unless you really need something unique... if it's $1000 for a new engine, do you think you can build a complete steam engine, pistons, cylinders, valves, valve gear, boiler, feed injectors, etc, etc, etc, for less? and if you consider your time to be worth anything...
23:29 furrywolf if you're doing it for alternative fuels, consider wood gas... it's cheaper, easier, and could run on gasoline too.
23:29 katsmeow-afk i am sorta thinking along the lines of a 1cyl gas engine to do backup , starter, preheating, etc etc duty, a 4cyl either opposed or double-acting, and a small scavenging engine for running the engine peripherals like pumps and fans
23:31 katsmeow-afk well, the "steam" engine can run on anything, even pinecones, and if i limit the crank and throws to two support bearings and two throws, i might sneak it under $1000
23:32 rrywolf wants to pick up a m35a2 next... it won't run off pinecones, but just about anything liquid and flammable will d
23:32 katsmeow-afk if nothing else, i can make it as if it could fit the truck or the boat, run and test it stationary on wood, solar, and diesel/gasoline/heatingoil
23:32 katsmeow-afk sorta impractical truck, isn't it?
23:33 furrywolf not really.
23:33 furrywolf they go most anywhere, and can haul a lot of weight.
23:33 katsmeow-afk the bed is too high off the ground to load anything by hand
23:33 furrywolf lol, yeah, I saw someone at the grocery store with one the other day. it was humorous. :)
23:33 katsmeow-afk it's gotta have horrible mileage
23:33 furrywolf about 8mpg.
23:34 furrywolf same thing my current pickup gets!
23:34 furrywolf a good off-road truck is handy, though.
23:34 furrywolf obviously it wouldn't be my daily driver.
23:35 rrywolf only has a 5/4 ton truck
23:37 katsmeow-afk this is about what mine looks like, but my bed is 8 wide x 11.5 long, and doesn't dump : http://www.commercialtrucktrader.com/find/listing/1998-Gmc-3500-HD-103263257
23:37 furrywolf my connection is too crappy to try loading web pages right now.
23:38 furrywolf currently I have a jeep m715.

23:39 furrywolf not a bad truck.
23:41 furrywolf around here, 4x4 and big tires is pretty much required...
23:41 katsmeow-afk i think it will drag anything up a mountain as long as it gets traction
23:41 katsmeow-afk it isn't 4x4 tho, i wish it was
23:41 furrywolf I have 5.88 axle gears... great for pulling, not great for highway economy. :)
23:42 katsmeow-afk 5.xx granny gear to get it rolling too, *real* handy pulling heavy from a dead stop on the side of a mountain
23:42 furrywolf yep, I have granny low too.
23:42 furrywolf and a low rpm, high torque engine, like yours.
23:43 furrywolf put the transfer case in low range, and you can get out and run circles around it as it slowly crawls along. :)
23:43 katsmeow-afk my F250 was like that
23:44 furrywolf I don't think ford ever used anything higher than 3.something axles in their trucks. I have 5.88 gears. that's lot of axle gearing.
23:44 katsmeow-afk it was 4x4, and i gave up on it when it got stuck in 2 1/2 inch deep puddles, diagonally across the truck, two wheel spinning, not going anywhere
23:44 katsmeow-afk needed locking differentials, didn't have em
23:45 furrywolf yeah, mine needs them too. but it's still very hard to get stuck.
23:45 furrywolf you have to work hard to get it stuck.
23:46 furrywolf and if I do get it stuck, I've got a warn 8274 on the front.
23:46 katsmeow-afk now what do i do with the Suburban, bad tranny, body so rusted out it bounces sideways on the frame and up over he rear bumper.....
23:47 furrywolf let me guess, won't go backwards?
23:48 katsmeow-afk nothing thing, if i can drop in a steamer into the 3500hd, i can prolly pull the transmission and clutch , unnedded
23:48 katsmeow-afk it will go backwards, but with 500lbs in it it won't go up my driveway
23:48 katsmeow-afk it's a highway geared automatic
23:48 furrywolf a friend had a f-250 that was so badly rusted the body dropped 6" onto the frame instead of sitting on the body mounts.
23:49 furrywolf pinching the fuel lines in the process. he had to cut them out and re-run them under the frame...
23:49 katsmeow-afk oh, the Suburban is crushed down around the mounts, zero contact on most of them, all rusted out
23:50 katsmeow-afk there's a gap in the body of 2 inches at the bottom of front doors, i think the whindshield is all that holds the roof and center pillars up
23:50 furrywolf he called me up from a parking lot at the store... my truck won't start! we find there's no fuel. pumps are running. look at the lines... pinched flat.
23:51 katsmeow-afk my lines are in the channel, had to, i replaced the tank and couldn't get the lines back on top, was putting an electric pump back there anyhow, in the channel
23:53 katsmeow-afk 20 yrs ago, i wanted this land to take care of me, food, fuel, water, exercize, etc etc, and i now want my transportation to be in shape to drive me around without me working on any of it , starting in 5 yrs, i don't wanna haveto pull an engine, rebuild anything big, etc once i hit 60
23:54 furrywolf heh
23:54 furrywolf might not be the best vehicles, then...
23:55 katsmeow-afk why not?
23:55 furrywolf anything that old and rusty will be a constant project.
23:55 katsmeow-afk the ford has no rust on it, the turbo kiks in and the car runs like a scalded ape, no smoke,, the truck is so heavy duty it will be hard to break it again
23:56 furrywolf heh, I wish my truck did that. my 0-60 time is measured in minutes. :)
23:56 katsmeow-afk needs engine, sure, if i can make a steamer that sits in the driveway and runs fine for a couple yrs, why not put it int he truck, replacing that diesel?
23:57 katsmeow-afk oh, the truck is so slow 18 wheelers outrun me, but the car is *fast*
23:57 furrywolf ah
23:57 katsmeow-afk car is not fast top end, but it gets to 90 in a head-jerking hurry
23:58 furrywolf my car won't be a dragster, but should be pretty zippy once I get the new engine in.
23:58 furrywolf 135hp instead of the stock 73/80 (depending on who you ask) hp.
23:59 i-make-robots http://www.marginallyclever.com/2012/05/drawbot-added-traveling-salesman-problem-and-gcode-generation/
23:59 katsmeow-afk thing that interests me about a steamer in that truck is torque is easy to get n a steam engine, i wouldn't need the gears, and i don't think i need a slip clutch either, just a locking on-off positive drive clutch, cause a steam engine can make max torque like a series dc motor: at dead 0 rpm
