01:31 katsmeow-afk Of the 22 million Americans with master's degrees or higher in 2010, about 360,000 were receiving some kind of public assistance, according to the latest Current Population Survey released by the U.S. Census Bureau in March 2011.
01:31 katsmeow-afk The number of people with master's degrees who received some kind of aid grew to 293,029 from 101,682 over the same three-year period.

01:44 katsmeow-afk Subject: Dimensional Warp Generator Needed ork uw g xmufucpebz
01:45 katsmeow-afk Hello,
01:45 katsmeow-afk I’m a time traveler stuck here in 2003. Upon arriving here my dimensional warp generator stopped working. I trusted a company here by the name of LLC Lasers to repair my Generation 3 52 4350A watch unit, and they fled on me. I am going to need a new DWG unit, prefereably the rechargeable AMD wrist watch model with the GRC79 induction motor, four I80200 warp stabilizers, 512GB of SRAM and the menu driven GUI with front panel XID display.
01:47 katsmeow-afk wierd,, Tiggr wrote a page:

04:58 SolarNRG morning
05:22 rizlah Hello
05:23 SolarNRG I'm now waiting for my latex to properly dry out
09:08 rue_mohr katsmeow-afk, they correct the results to me
09:23 SolarNRG I've made a mold of my gear: http://i.imgur.com/De1VE.jpg
09:23 SolarNRG But now the ABS gear is STUCK in the mold
09:23 SolarNRG How do I get it out?
09:27 rue_mohr befroe the plaster sets, you give it a little bump in x and y to push the plaster out from it a bit
09:29 rue_mohr you want the peice to be submerged in the cast, this is so you can have pressure from the height that will help push the metal into all the corners
09:29 rue_mohr have you looked up anything on casting on youtube?
09:34 SolarNRG Lost wax I'm going for
09:34 SolarNRG I got plenty of wax
09:34 SolarNRG I'm going to put 4 copes on the down face and four drags leading to a spout hole
09:34 SolarNRG And I'm going to put the copes as close to the tips of the bigger gear as possible
09:34 SolarNRG I'll do that out of wax also
09:35 SolarNRG Then dip in my molochite
09:35 SolarNRG Then melt with my brand new stove top element :D
09:41 Tom_itx is that your kitchen?
09:41 Tom_itx you sure made a mess
09:42 Tom_itx you didn't use mold release either
09:44 SolarNRG No I didn't know you were supposed to
09:44 SolarNRG But the lates will bend right?
09:44 SolarNRG latex
09:44 SolarNRG can the latex be the mold release
09:45 SolarNRG ??
09:52 Tom_itx it will stick too without release
09:53 SolarNRG What do I need then?
09:53 SolarNRG Shall I jsut screw plug the whole gear out with a corkscrew?
09:54 Tom_itx you can try to work it out gradually
09:54 SolarNRG You mean "tease" it out?
09:54 Tom_itx i guess
11:04 Solaris Help, my gear is stuck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89T23XBepfw
11:04 Solaris Here's a video
11:04 Solaris It shows clearly what's wrong
11:04 Solaris Any help would be gladly appreciated
11:09 rizlah_ lolol
11:10 Solaris :*(
11:11 rizlah_ Why are you worrying about the mess? Just start cleaning...
11:12 Solaris How do I get the gear out?
11:12 rizlah_ Break the mold.
11:12 Solaris Is it the only way?
11:13 Solaris Then the mold is unusable
11:13 rizlah_ It is the easiest way.
11:13 rizlah_ Make a new one.
11:13 Solaris But that's 20 quids worth of plaster of paris
11:13 Solaris Then I'll have failed AND I'll still have a mess
11:13 rizlah_ £20 isn't much.
11:13 rizlah_ How will it have failed?
11:13 Solaris It is if you're living off benefits!
11:13 rizlah_ Why are you living off benefits?
11:13 Solaris Cos I got autism and brain damage
11:14 rizlah_ I see
11:15 Tom_itx i thought you used latex
11:15 Tom_itx use a mold release next time
11:16 Tom_itx you might try blasting air at the seams to get it loose
11:18 Solaris Hair dryer?
11:24 Solaris I tried blowing in it
11:24 Solaris Didn't work
11:24 Solaris Shall I just smash it up?
11:24 Solaris And forget about making gears
11:24 Solaris Spur gears are simply not moldable
11:24 Solaris :(
11:41 Solaris :*****(
12:58 katsmeow-afk uh oh, i caught Tiggr reading up on the preparation of 2-_4-aminophenyl benzothiazole
12:58 katsmeow-afk spur gears ARE moldable, and "air pressure" often = 30psi or more
12:59 katsmeow-afk btw, in hobby casting things, the mold is often broken up unles you got a lot of trouble to make multi-piece molds
13:00 rrywolf has no idea what 2-_4-aminophenyl benzothiazole is, and isn't sure who tiggr is eithe
13:00 katsmeow-afk you can also make simple multipiece, where the backing portion is tapered inside, so you can lift the latex portion out of it, and then peel the latex off the finished item
13:01 katsmeow-afk Tiggr is a smart bot that no one wants around, and i dunno what that stuff is either
13:02 furrywolf lol
13:02 furrywolf it's planning world domination, obviously.
13:02 katsmeow-afk she's also looking at fishing rod holders and dehydrogenation of naphthene hydrocarbons, and other stuff, a very WIDE database
13:04 katsmeow-afk i dunno that you wanna "bump" a cast of ABS material, because it may retainthe "dents" from the "bumping", causing the "gears" to "thump" while "running"
13:07 katsmeow-afk but you for sure wanna be able to PEEL the flex mold off the item (think taking off a 1970's girdle vs a 1770's girdle), that's the whole reason it's flexable
13:11 Solaris Here's my double gear latex mold: http://i.imgur.com/Y1SWm.jpg
13:11 Solaris The plaster of paris didn't work out
13:11 Solaris I'd like to do a wax replica of the gear
13:15 katsmeow-afk furry : http://www.ebay.com/itm/MONARCH-M415-137-11B01B-DYNA-PACK-HYDRAULIC-PUMP-BALDOR-MOTOR-1-2HP-575V-51355-/120912002455?pt=Pneumatic_Hydraulic_Valves_Parts&hash=item1c26eabd97
13:16 katsmeow-afk scratch that
13:16 katsmeow-afk it's 575v , not battery pack material
13:34 tsmeow-afk growls at a pro
13:36 katsmeow-afk if i design for an absolute worst case low side pressure of 300, and put a 300psi guage on it, and a high side of 1200psi and put a 1500psi guage on it, and all is fine while running,t hen i shut it off, the system equalises and the 300psi guage explodes
13:36 katsmeow-afk but if i put a 1500psi guage on the low side, at 150psi it barely registers any pressure
13:38 tsmeow-afk ponders the 150psi ball valves, and wonders if pouring an inch of aluminum around them will strengthen them against burs
13:39 furrywolf building your own a/c?
13:39 katsmeow-afk sorta
13:39 katsmeow-afk but with water
13:40 katsmeow-afk w/c ,, i uess
13:40 furrywolf you can get gauges where the maximum same pressure is much higher than the display maximum.
13:40 furrywolf I once had a 5psi pressure sensor with a 5000psi proof rating. :)
13:40 katsmeow-afk say in different words?
13:40 katsmeow-afk o
13:40 furrywolf s/same/safe
13:41 katsmeow-afk still, unless it's the mph indicator, pegged or wrapped guages look scarey to me
13:42 katsmeow-afk i do not mind when the mph guage (which reads 145mph) is wrapped well past that, but i don't want the tach to get to redline
13:42 furrywolf my experience is the system equalizes at the low-side pressure, as the pressure is given by the temperature of the refrigerant.
13:43 katsmeow-afk and if the temperature on the high side is in a pool of 200F water?
13:43 furrywolf then you're doing something weird. :)
13:43 katsmeow-afk eventually the low side comes up
13:44 furrywolf you'd have to look at a chart for whatever refrigerant you're using to see what the pressure is at 200F... I'm not even sure what refrigerant is suitable for those temperatures.
13:44 katsmeow-afk iirc, a normal R22 ac is ~75F running, but will go above 150psi shut down
13:44 katsmeow-afk R290 is :-)
13:45 furrywolf and rather dangerous to be pumping large quantities of around.
13:45 katsmeow-afk not if it's kept inside the pipe, it's like electricity, keep it inside the insulation
13:46 katsmeow-afk like hydraulic fluid in those 10,000psi portapowers, keep it inside the pipe
13:47 katsmeow-afk like rattlesnake venom, keep it inside the snake
13:47 furrywolf so you're trying to heat water to 200F using a heat pump?
13:47 katsmeow-afk heck no
13:47 katsmeow-afk i wanna heat the propane with 200F water
13:48 furrywolf *thinks*... building a solar powered air conditioner?
13:48 katsmeow-afk which isn't unusual of you loook at history, ~1900 people heated ammonia with 200F water
13:48 tsmeow-afk rephr
13:49 katsmeow-afk which isn't unusual if you look at history, circa 1900, people heated ammonia with 200F water
13:49 rrywolf lives in no-ac-needed-land, so doesn't know too much about i
13:49 katsmeow-afk in two words, (for ammonia): Crossly Ball
13:50 katsmeow-afk even if you do not need cool air, a fridge may be handy for keeping food past it's room-temperature expiration date
13:50 furrywolf yeah, I have one of those. :)
13:50 katsmeow-afk you do have 120vac service from a powerco?
13:50 furrywolf no
13:50 katsmeow-afk how do you run it?
13:51 furrywolf 1900W of pv panels
13:51 tsmeow-afk thinks prpane fire in a ammonia fr
13:51 katsmeow-afk oh
13:51 tsmeow-afk looks somewhat jea
13:52 katsmeow-afk you can deploy solar panels, i get threatened with assault and battery, and being fed to dogs, if i use pv panels
13:54 furrywolf have I mentioned you should move to the sane parts of the country? roughly anywhere north, east, or west, from where you are? :)
13:55 katsmeow-afk yes, indeed you did, and i have tried
13:56 katsmeow-afk not sure it would really help, i have found people like to interfere everywhere, and my mom said she'd drive to whereever i am to turn dogs loose on me
13:57 furrywolf nice family you have.
13:57 katsmeow-afk the place i was going to move to in Fla, the guy who owned the place, who i'd haveto lease from till my place here sold, said i could run power back from a solar array ONLY AT 12V PER WIRE, from 200ft out past the trees
13:58 katsmeow-afk the cost of the copper to run the power would cost more than the solar array, more than the power was worth, plus it would be stolen every nite and turned in as scrap the next morning
13:59 furrywolf ... wtf? was he worried you'd burn the place down or something?
14:00 katsmeow-afk oh, and that was 12v above ground, and to make it worse, it had to classify as class 2, so no more than 3amps per wire pair
14:00 katsmeow-afk i dunno, people scare me
14:01 katsmeow-afk yesterday, some asshole was screaming across a parking lot at me "DO YOU NEED HELP????"
14:01 furrywolf was he trying to be helpful?
14:02 katsmeow-afk then once inside, i moved a shopping cart to one side to approach their returns desk, and some guy then came over and put his hands on that cart to hold it so i could get by,, altho it wasn't moving, i had taken care of it, and he was then standing in my way, IF i had decided to go forth,,
14:03 katsmeow-afk and i really turned loose on him when it then decided to move everything within 20ft of me to "help" me
14:03 katsmeow-afk furry, how the hell is it helpful to scram and draw attention when all i was doing was getting out of the car?
14:03 katsmeow-afk scream
14:03 katsmeow-afk fuck
14:03 thalm anyone has the formula for MoveC robot move command? need to construct and parametrisize a circular move from a to b through a point c
14:04 katsmeow-afk thalm, no, and no clue what programming language that is in
14:04 thalm RAPID
14:04 thalm from ABB
14:04 katsmeow-afk sorry, i cannot type any more rapidly
14:05 thalm the language does not matter, i nee the mathematics bhind
14:05 katsmeow-afk most everyone here uses small micros, not $million ABB controllers
14:05 thalm they also need circular moves... not?
14:06 tsmeow-afk waits on everyone else to say how they turn their ro
14:06 rrywolf has no clue what thalm is talking a
14:06 katsmeow-afk rue has a lot of robots that move around the house and yard, his turn, i dunno how
14:07 katsmeow-afk iirc, orlok's turned, rebecca's turned, Tom's turned, etc etc etc
14:07 thalm from 3 points A, B and C you can construct a circle.
14:07 thalm now the movement should go from A to B through the point C on that circle
14:08 katsmeow-afk then you may mean :you construct an arc
14:08 thalm yep!
14:09 thalm and then i would need to parametrizise it that from 0..1 i can go along that arc
14:09 katsmeow-afk it's an interesting exercize, but i suspect most here will turn and head straight for the end point, and not travel an arc
14:09 thalm ok
14:09 furrywolf what did orlok, rebecca, and tom turn into? zombies? spies? :)
14:09 thalm its a common move method for robots
14:10 thalm any other robotics forums i can visit?
14:10 katsmeow-afk two or more reasons: 1) arc is longer, burns more battery 2) arc is a turn, and turns are worse for knowing where you are, as well as sliding sideways
14:11 katsmeow-afk and if you have a geared differential, arcs put more wear on the differetial
14:11 thalm ok, but we dont optimize such things here
14:12 thalm we do other stuff with robots
14:12 thalm http://vvvv.org/pluginspecs/
14:12 thalm no
14:12 thalm this one
14:12 katsmeow-afk that said, to me, imho, when folloing down a hallway, an arc is preferred method to turn a corner , if possible
14:12 thalm http://www.meso.net/RealtimeRoboticsMotionLibrary
14:12 thalm just the arc move is missing
14:12 thalm in the library
14:13 katsmeow-afk ah, yeat ANOTEHR robot control "standard"
14:14 katsmeow-afk i shold eat lunch,, or maybe pull that one 3/4 hp pump and put in a difefrent 3/4 hp pump :-/
14:17 katsmeow-afk that move of the cute ABB robot doing bessier curve motions... no one here has one ($$$$), and few can build one ($$$), but rue has approximated one ($) that size and one ($$) with a 6ft reach
14:18 katsmeow-afk bur afaik, not a one of his runs a "standard" unless you count the mowerbot running linux
14:20 katsmeow-afk regarding the $$$$$ robot moving a pear, a monitor, and a globe, no one here would waste time doing that
14:20 katsmeow-afk let alone buy a $$$$$ arm to do it on
14:22 katsmeow-afk [ChanServ PING reply]: 18 secs
14:23 Solaris I'm making an ice gear
14:29 Solaris Even Lexi has laughed at me and my latex gear :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89T23XBepfw
14:41 Steffanx whaa, what a mess Solaris
14:42 Steffanx You gf is probably very happy iwth you atm
14:45 Steffanx A video for funniest home videos :D D: :D
14:47 Skwint that meso thing is presumably for big manufacturing companies who want to show off their production line robots in a convention center
14:48 Solaris I cleaned it up
14:48 Solaris Mostly
14:48 Solaris The floor is all skewy
14:49 katsmeow-afk skewy?
14:52 Solaris Yeah I washed the floor but there are spirals of plaster of paris all over the linin
14:53 katsmeow-afk oh that stuff gets and sticks everywhere, only way to get it all is to use a clean sponge with clean water for *every* swipe you make on the floor
14:53 katsmeow-afk this is why you should do this stuff outside
14:54 Steffanx :D
14:59 Solaris :**(
14:59 Solaris I'm such afool
14:59 Steffanx Ha
15:11 katsmeow-afk to me, tying up a computer's cpu to move files on a harddrive is as quaint as using it to scan the keybd for user input
15:13 katsmeow-afk keybds now come with cpus in them, so do harddrives, for the last 20 years, but using them optimally still hasn't happened, i STILL cannot upload programs to the harddrive to execute there, like i did/do on a C64's floppy drive (circa 1983)
15:13 Steffanx Poor you
15:14 katsmeow-afk seriously, wth must i tie up so much cpu to move or copy a couple terabytes? why must the system cpu be involved at all??
15:15 Steffanx Ask the experts
15:15 katsmeow-afk "because we always did it that way before, and it's good enough for us"
15:16 Steffanx Yeah, the cpu is fast enough
15:16 katsmeow-afk no, it isn't
15:16 Steffanx Yes it is
15:16 katsmeow-afk no, it isn't
15:16 Steffanx Yours maybe isn't
15:16 katsmeow-afk right, 2.4ghz is too slow
15:17 Steffanx You need at least a triple hexa quad core nowadays ..
15:17 Steffanx You don't have one?
15:17 katsmeow-afk moving a file on one hd is a matetr of changing chars in a string in the fat, that's all, it is such a simple task that it can be done by the cpu on the drive
15:17 katsmeow-afk no
15:18 katsmeow-afk and i don't have 64bit cpus, i uses olde antique 32bit cpu to move my 8bit data around
15:18 Steffanx So you want to let your hdd know things about all kinds of filesystems?
15:19 katsmeow-afk uploading a fat template to it doesn't seem to be a drastic problem
15:19 katsmeow-afk it already has the fat, the sat, the bst, etc etc
16:29 katsmeow-afk TOM!! these are beautiful !!! but why are the holes .232? I found one hole at .234, and the magnet is a nice press fit into it. I thought you were going to make these 6mm, which is .036 ?
16:30 katsmeow-afk i can fix this, they are *SO MUCH BETTER* than i could do here
16:32 tsmeow-afk admires them a while before going back outside to fumble with pumps some
16:33 katsmeow-afk err, .236
16:33 Solaris If lost wax casting is possible, is lost Ice also possible?
16:33 Solaris Say I have an Ice gear instead of a wax gear, can I coat that in molochite and boil off the water?
16:34 katsmeow-afk yeas, but your latex will not cure in contact with ice
16:34 Solaris Cure?
16:34 katsmeow-afk set, harden
16:34 katsmeow-afk what's molochite?
16:34 katsmeow-afk oh, pricey clay
16:34 Solaris Molochite is a plaster that is rated to 1700 degrees C, they use it to cast titanium and steel parts
16:35 katsmeow-afk so is regulral clay, afaik
16:35 Solaris so bentonite works fine also?
16:35 katsmeow-afk err, bentonite is a different clay, it swells a lot with water, and shrinks a lot as it dries
16:36 Solaris Can I take my ice gear out of the freezer tomorrow and embed it with molochite and primecoat binder?
16:36 katsmeow-afk bentonite is even used as waterproofing
16:36 Solaris Will the molochite and primecoat binder be ok in the freezer?
16:36 Solaris Because if the ice turns to water, it'll dilute the molochite
16:36 Solaris Will it harden in the freezer?
16:36 katsmeow-afk i dunno how the molochite or primecost will work below 32F/0C , you should have tried that with a common icecube already
16:36 Solaris Very slowly
16:37 Solaris Good answer
16:38 katsmeow-afk did you not consider the multipiece support cast around a removeable reuseable peel-off-able latex mold (to cast your lost wax or lost ice)?
16:39 katsmeow-afk people tend to save lots of $ by making a cheap sturdy outermold and the highly accurate pricey pour mold tween the object and the outer mold
16:40 katsmeow-afk so you end up with a 1/8 - 1/2 5mm-20mm latex mold, held sturdy by clay/cement outer mold
16:41 Solaris I tried that with plaster of paris today
16:41 Solaris http://i.imgur.com/DyZ52.jpg
16:41 Solaris And in the background there is the result of the plaster of paris
16:41 Solaris And here's the mess I made earlier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89T23XBepfw
16:42 katsmeow-afk i'd have used a quick cure cement at $3 per 40lbs
16:43 katsmeow-afk pic is too blurry, but it loks like you peeled the latex off ok?
16:44 Solaris I think I should have used a mold release agent
16:44 Solaris But oh well,
16:46 katsmeow-afk here's pics, but no how-to (click around on the thumbs) : http://www.afxstudios.com/moldmaking/
16:47 katsmeow-afk a multipiece outer mold is almost necessary on most casts to get the item out, and it's just too easy a thing to do, you don't need to bolt te parts together, you can clamp/visegrip the to a sheet of plywood for your flat items
16:48 Solaris If this doesn't work, I swear I'm going to try segmented molding
16:48 Solaris Maybe 8 segments like a pizza
16:48 Solaris Then I can pull away from the centre of the gear
16:48 katsmeow-afk you do not need 8 to get the latex out, 3 would be fine
16:50 katsmeow-afk all up, you'll have 3 molds: the latex of the original item, the backing multipiece mold to support the latex, the mold you make around the wax or ice that you'll break up to extract the aluminum gears from
16:50 Solaris aluminium!? I'm making them from Zinc!
16:50 Solaris Loads tougher
16:50 katsmeow-afk the first 2 are permanent, the last one you break up and use as filler for the next alum pour
16:51 katsmeow-afk ok, zinc, but watch for fire, that stuff will oxidize fiercely in an oxyget environment, and it causes dain brammage
16:51 katsmeow-afk brain dammage
16:51 katsmeow-afk damage
16:51 Solaris I already got that, so I'm ok :)
16:51 katsmeow-afk ok
16:52 katsmeow-afk there's a lot of different brain damages, you can get more than one kind
16:52 Solaris zinc chills
16:52 Solaris i usually hold my breath when I open the lid
16:52 katsmeow-afk i wold not use zinc, i think it may be a bad fire hazzard when melted
16:52 katsmeow-afk ok
16:53 Solaris I opened the lid once and this white dot appeared on the top of it

16:53 Solaris Hey, the ice gear is first, if that works out ok, I'll do a wax gear next
16:54 katsmeow-afk ok, beware the expansion temperature of ice, where it will resize itself and maybe fracture
16:54 Solaris If the wax gear is ok, I'll make 4 copes and 4 drags and a pour hole, then you're going to guide me through step by step how I turn this cooker element I got and this stainless steel pot into a backyard foundry
16:54 Solaris Latex is flexible its fine
16:54 Solaris Worst case the teeth don't mesh
16:54 katsmeow-afk no i won't guide you on that (but i wish i could), because rue id the hands-on did-that expert here
16:55 katsmeow-afk i can comment, but rue has done it more than once

18:16 katsmeow-afk yesterday, Alaforkingbama governor signed another law against texting while *in a car*, today a jury freed a texting driver who rearended another car at 90mph and killed the driver of that car, the texting driver was freed because it wasn't her fault she rearended the other car while doing 90mph (all caught on tape), because she was texting, who the heck would expect her to be responsible for what her car was doing??
18:17 Tom_itx it took a mind of it's own once her hands left the wheel for her phone as did the brake pedal
18:18 katsmeow-afk apparently, legally
18:18 Tom_itx she would have been convicted had an animal gotten killed in the accident
18:19 katsmeow-afk they do exactly the same with dogs: i turned it loose, i am not reponsible for where it went after that
18:19 katsmeow-afk and fire: i was burning MY property, i didn't set YOUR property on fire
18:20 katsmeow-afk and smoking : if you don't like me smoking at my desk, quit breathing my smoke!

18:20 katsmeow-afk President Barack Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee pounced Thursday on a Washington Post report describing a "vicious" attack Mitt Romney carried out in 1965 on a fellow prep schooler who years later came out as gay.
18:20 katsmeow-afk The Post, citing five people who attended the elite Cranbrook School in Michigan with Romney, said he had led a "posse" of fellow students against another student named John Lauber, who the newspaper said "was perpetually teased for his noncomformity and presumed homosexuality." The group reportedly pinned Lauber down while Romney forcibly cut his hair.
18:21 katsmeow-afk DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse kept up the onslaught on Twitter, saying "The nominee of @GOP for president led a 'posse' in a 'vicious' assault on a kid for the way he looked. @MittRomney was an 18yr old adult."
18:21 katsmeow-afk Just the qualities you want in someone who wants to be the leader of the free world."
18:21 Squint *ahem*
18:21 katsmeow-afk hmm?
18:22 Squint please, wants to be leader of the US
18:22 katsmeow-afk oh i know, i was copy/pasting
18:22 Squint then I shall transfer my ire to persons unknown!
18:22 katsmeow-afk i agree with you, the usa has no qualifications to be leader of the planet outside it's own borders
18:24 katsmeow-afk Stephanie Ann Broten, 38, and Darnell Alan Landrum, 34, were arrested Monday night after shaving their 12-year-old daughter's head and forcing her to run back and forth outside their Fridley home wearing nothing but a tank top and an adult diaper, according to the criminal complaint.
18:24 katsmeow-afk Broten, the girl's mother, and Landrum, her stepfather, told police they were punishing the girl for getting an F on her report card and failing to bring home school assignments, the complaint says. Broten shaved her head,
18:24 Tom_itx oh
18:24 katsmeow-afk Tom ?
18:24 Tom_itx good
18:24 katsmeow-afk o
18:24 Tom_itx i'm a slow reader
18:24 katsmeow-afk but i ask about the hole size because i want to know if there's atechnologcal problem i need to be aware of
18:25 Tom_itx no but i bet the fr4 may have started dulling the bit
18:25 katsmeow-afk i can easily oversize the .232 to be .234 so i can pressfit them, it's better for me than if you had drilled then 6mm!
18:25 Tom_itx i used a normal bit
18:25 Tom_itx not metric
18:26 katsmeow-afk normal what size?
18:26 Tom_itx i forget
18:26 Tom_itx what was close to what you asked for?
18:26 Tom_itx iirc it was a fraction bit
18:28 katsmeow-afk had to have been a letter size, even 15/64 is .234
18:28 Tom_itx that's what it was
18:28 Tom_itx i bet the fr4 did that
18:28 katsmeow-afk but it's fine, a lil whirl around it to take off a .001 and it's exactly right
18:28 Tom_itx it was a brand new drill too
18:29 tsmeow-afk thanks Tom a
18:29 Tom_itx np
18:29 katsmeow-afk it's a beauty piece of work
18:30 Tom_itx if you only knew :D
18:30 Tom_itx the lathe is about worn out
18:31 katsmeow-afk oh, just tap the head bearings a lil cockeyed, take out the slack in 'em :-)
18:31 katsmeow-afk i need to get back outside to the pump stuff, bbl
18:31 Tom_itx it's bronze iirc
18:31 Tom_itx did the shaft fit ok?
18:32 Tom_itx i had nothing to check it against
19:49 rue_mohr so I think I had my best moment of terror today at work
19:49 rue_mohr water pump station
19:49 rue_mohr I had to add a new wire to a conduit
19:49 Tom_itx get stuck in the inlet?
19:50 rue_mohr to one of two 600V control boxes
19:50 rue_mohr one box went control_cabinet-->600V_power_box the other control_cabinet->junction box->600V_control_box
19:50 rue_mohr I was going to the one with the junction box
19:51 rue_mohr which was "pump 1"
19:51 rue_mohr the pump 1 box had the power shut off, "pump 2" was live and operating
19:52 Tom_itx from the junction box?
19:52 rue_mohr I carefully followed the conduit to the control box and started feeding in the steel fishtape
19:52 rue_mohr I had a guy waiting at the junction box (about 2m away) waiting for the fishtape
19:52 rue_mohr after feeding down what seems like WAY too much tape I look down and the conduit says "pump 2"
19:53 rue_mohr !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
19:53 Tom_itx you barely need one for that short run
19:53 rue_mohr the wire would not push thru
19:53 Tom_itx woops
19:53 rue_mohr I immediatly let go of the tapes metal, turn to the boss and mutter a profanity
19:54 rue_mohr he turns off the power immediatly (to everything) and we open up the live 600V box I thought I just fed into
19:54 rue_mohr turns out, it was mislabeled, I was in the right pipe
19:54 Tom_itx so where did the extra tape go?
19:54 rue_mohr straight, it was about 2m, the conduit was about 7m long
19:55 Tom_itx oh
19:55 rue_mohr yea
19:55 Tom_itx kat got her motor parts today
19:56 rue_mohr the day had another similar surprise in store for me too, I rewired the control cabinet and the techs came by to try out the new functionality, and it didn't work
19:56 rue_mohr which was like impossable cause I'd gone over it my usual 6 times before saying it was ready
19:57 rue_mohr turns out there was _a_ spare wire between two cabinets which wasn't the same spare on both ends...
19:57 rue_mohr I hope kat makes up the motor
19:58 Tom_itx not sure what she has in mind for it
19:58 rue_mohr someone had mixed up a spare with a live wire at some point
19:58 rue_mohr my either, I was trying to draw up what I thought she had designed from the tidbits I'd caught about it, but the result was someting unfeasable and I'd really like to know what her design was like
19:59 rue_mohr yea, that was quite a scare today
19:59 rue_mohr maybe I'll get myself a fiberglass fishtape
20:02 Tom_itx they make them outta fiberglass?
20:02 Tom_itx mine is steel
20:02 Tom_itx i think the od holes are to house magnets

20:09 zhanx hey
20:09 katsmeow-afk other than the one day before they shut the water off, i just washed my paws in the sink for the first time THIS YEAR
20:09 zhanx nice
20:10 katsmeow-afk and i flushed the toilet, and it did it's usual stopped up routine!
20:10 zhanx lol
20:10 zhanx i made cookies
20:10 katsmeow-afk so i have running water, not drinkable yet, but it's wash and flush water!
20:10 katsmeow-afk i got in the RO filter too, but not all the parts
20:11 zhanx soon!
20:11 katsmeow-afk the filter and housing and restrictor from one seller, the auto-off from another, check valves from another, tubing from anotehr
20:11 katsmeow-afk and on-off valve from another
20:12 katsmeow-afk i wonder why someone doesn't sell everything in one store,, they sell "complete" kits that don't have everyting in them
20:13 Tom_itx what pump did you wind up using?
20:13 katsmeow-afk anyhoo, 3/4 hp pump, i set for 120vac, and left it at factory 30-50psi for now, till i see how it does gattng water up tthe driveway
20:14 katsmeow-afk it's going to loose 10 psi just getting water to the roof
20:15 Tom_itx is this creek water? i forget
20:15 katsmeow-afk yeas
20:15 Tom_itx do the natives pee in the creek?
20:15 katsmeow-afk altho when it's real low, it's mostly flowing underground
20:15 katsmeow-afk the 4 legged ones do, yeas
20:15 katsmeow-afk hence me saying it's not drinkable yet
20:16 zhanx boil it
20:16 katsmeow-afk damned website, 2 minutes to get a page on their water pumps, and it's not listed
20:17 katsmeow-afk it's listed as pumping jets
20:17 Tom_itx reminds me.. i need to reset my router again
20:17 Solaris My ice gear is nearly ready
20:18 katsmeow-afk this is what i got, because they didn't have the one i wanted : http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100212883/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=jetpump&storeId=10051
20:20 katsmeow-afk i wanted the 1hp version, so if someone set the woods on fire, i could lock on the electrical and let it maintain 70psi to the outside faucets
20:21 Tom_itx my cast iron jet pump has been pretty maintenace free for quite a few years now
20:22 katsmeow-afk the 1hp i wanted was cast iron, and anothr week to get it shipped to me, it was NOT in stock
20:23 Tom_itx mine's pretty old now

20:39 orlok Tom_itx: i'm sure it would, but its for insulation, not foundations
20:39 Tom_itx yeah

22:40 furrywolf so eating them slowly is also good at making them last longer, because I'm not buying more. :)
22:42 furrywolf no giving them back! I shouldn't be eating them, so you're doing me a favor. also, I like giving people things. :)
22:43 katsmeow-afk ok :-)
22:44 tsmeow-afk discovered monosoupape is not a disease or something to

22:49 katsmeow-afk i must not have all the data on steam engines as i'd like
22:50 furrywolf oh? what're you building?
22:50 rue_mohr hmm
22:51 rue_mohr oo I want to build a steam engine
22:51 rue_mohr :( but I'll only have time if I get aroudn the death thing
22:51 rue_mohr successfully
22:51 furrywolf ?
22:52 rue_mohr I'm not gonna live nearly long enough to do what I want
22:52 katsmeow-afk well, there's a slight problem of size, and that the cylinders won't drop to zero psi ever, and i don't want to use a crankshaft
22:52 rue_mohr so I have to either work on sustaining my sentience after death or not dying
22:52 rue_mohr you can do negitive pressure
22:52 furrywolf katsmeow-afk: what are you building?
22:52 katsmeow-afk so to counter the non-zero-psi, just put two opposed to each other, but then how to get the stroke power out from between them?
22:53 rue_mohr you pump the exhaust steam into a large cooling tank, and it retracts forming a vacumme
22:53 rue_mohr oh wrong topic, good one rue
22:53 katsmeow-afk no it won't, and you're trying to solve a problem i don't have
22:53 rue_mohr I LOVE SOLVING PROBLEMS PEOPLE DONT HAVE!
22:54 rue_mohr there is like _NO_ pressure
22:54 rue_mohr nothing takes the fun out of a project like too much pressure
22:55 furrywolf I'm not sure what the problem is, because you won't tell me what you're doing!
22:55 katsmeow-afk *<boom>*
22:55 katsmeow-afk furry, but i did : [22:43] <katsmeow-afk> so to counter the non-zero-psi, just put two opposed to each other, but then how to get the stroke power out from between them?
22:55 rue_mohr I'm trying to work out how the universe operates so I can understand how I work so I can properly simulate myself after death
22:56 rue_mohr I have just a few dozen years to figure it out, the greatest reverse-engineering project of my life
22:57 rue_mohr but I cant break it to figure it out
22:57 furrywolf ok, you've told me you want two opposed pistons. you haven't told me what you're building, unless the whole final goal is to build two opposed cylinders. :P
22:57 rue_mohr its a water pump
22:57 rue_mohr or a steam engine
22:57 katsmeow-afk it's both!
22:57 rue_mohr but it dosn't mater, its got pistons so its cool
22:59 katsmeow-afk it's H shaped, where the center '-' is a bar, one '|' is two opposed water pump pistons, and the other '|' is water pump pistons , so there's |-| , but now how to keep the - level tween them without binding the piston shafts?
22:59 furrywolf was one of those supposed to be steam rather than water?
23:00 katsmeow-afk if the - is extended 10ft and hinged out there, it will stay horizontal enough and move power from the steam pistons to the water pump pistons just fine,, but that makes it 10ft wide
23:00 katsmeow-afk err, yeas, the first 2
23:01 katsmeow-afk 2 steam ==> |-| <== two water pump
23:01 furrywolf and the problem is you have skirtless pistons that can't take sideloading?
23:02 katsmeow-afk and i don't wanna flex the piston shafts and wear the bushings and seals
23:03 furrywolf cut slots in the center bar, with a pivot in the middle?
23:03 furrywolf and a pair of crosshead guides parallel with the pistons?
23:03 katsmeow-afk great, now what holdes the slotted bar that wouldn't hold the center unslotted bar?
23:04 furrywolf I'm not sure what you mean by that.
23:04 katsmeow-afk then it will seesaw the - and not keep the piston shafts straight
23:04 furrywolf exactly. the water pistons will move in the opposite direction from the steam pistons. the crosshead guides will make sure all forces on the pistons are in line.
23:04 katsmeow-afk with a 20inch stroke, the center bar will need to be quite long
23:04 furrywolf ah, didn't know the stroke was so long.
23:05 furrywolf how about two loops of cable around a wheel, instead of a bar?
23:05 katsmeow-afk how do you push a cable?
23:05 furrywolf you don't. that's why there's two of them. :)
23:05 katsmeow-afk huh?
23:07 furrywolf if it's an H shape, have "|o|", with a "u" and an "n" of cable looped around the center wheel.
23:07 katsmeow-afk i do not see how pushing the cable is going to work
23:07 furrywolf you never push the cable - you pull on the other cable.
23:08 furrywolf that's why there's two cables.
23:08 katsmeow-afk oh
23:08 katsmeow-afk still each snde moving in opposite dirs
23:08 furrywolf is that a problem?
23:08 furrywolf if it's just a pump with check valve, it won't care.
23:09 furrywolf valves
23:09 katsmeow-afk wwwwoooooooooahhhhhhhhhhh http://www.engineeringtv.com/video/Opposed-Piston-Opposed-Cylinder
23:09 rue_mohr why not use pistons made of water?
23:09 rue_mohr isnt' that what you told me to do?
23:10 katsmeow-afk because i want to avoid water pistons pushing water, or absorbing the propane
23:11 rue_mohr where did the steam go?
23:11 katsmeow-afk pushing down the piston, and then being cooled by the same water it's pumping
23:13 rue_mohr hahaha 40% efficiency
23:13 rue_mohr and its HIGHER than a standard engine
23:13 furrywolf that page doesn't seem to work fo me.
23:13 furrywolf for
23:14 katsmeow-afk i been dreaming of the olde sub engines, their pistons were set up the same way, but with dual cranks to get power out at different places
23:14 furrywolf oh, it needs flash.
23:15 katsmeow-afk one main crank drove the air compressor, the otehr main crank drove a main generator, the other two outputs drove other things, no need for belts
23:15 katsmeow-afk per area, output is enourmous, but it wouldn't likely meet epa air standards when run as internal combustion engine
23:24 furrywolf grrr, not only does that site use flash, it does something annoying that makes sure you get a 403 forbidden if you try loading the flv directly.
23:24 furrywolf fucking idiot webmasters.

23:28 furrywolf yay, got the .flv downloading.
23:29 furrywolf ouch. 52MB!
23:29 furrywolf that's a couple hours. NOT WORTH IT.

23:30 furrywolf I designed an engine that was normally a 4-stroke, but switched to 2-stroke when maximum power was needed.
23:30 katsmeow-afk rue, that engine wasn't even an original design :
23:30 furrywolf best of both worlds. :)
23:30 katsmeow-afk The Doxford Engine Works of the UK designed and built very large opposed-piston engines for marine use. These engines differ in design from Jumo and Fairbanks-Morse engines by having external connecting rods outside the cylinder linking the upper and lower pistons, thus requiring only a single crankshaft. The first engine of this type was developed by Karl Otto Keller in 1912.
23:33 furrywolf I like my pulley-and-cable design... just because I've never seen it before. :P
23:34 katsmeow-afk TS3
23:34 katsmeow-afk The TS3 engine was a two stroke diesel unit with three cylinders each containing a pair of pistons arranged with the combustion chamber formed between the crown of the piston pair and the cylinder walls. It was designed specifically for the Commer range of trucks.[9] The TS3 and derivative TS4 were unique in using rockers to deliver power to the single crankshaft.
23:34 katsmeow-afk Commer went out of business in 1979
23:34 katsmeow-afk so again, the usa propaganda about the new engine is lies
23:34 katsmeow-afk TS4
23:34 katsmeow-afk The TS4 engine ran 1.2million miles as a pre-production prototype. It was a 4 cylinder version of the TS3.[11]

23:36 katsmeow-afk The engines that were put in trucks ran up to 1.2 million miles between the 8 of them, trouble free, before being pulled out and scrapped on instructions from Chrysler to protect Chrysler’s joint venture in England with Cummins.

23:40 katsmeow-afk rue: a huge inside out universal
23:40 rue_mohr mabe if I make one of the wheels for the roatoin sysem a drive wheel?
23:41 furrywolf I assume your cylidners are single acting, and that's why you need an opposed pair?
23:41 rue_mohr propane means direct firing
23:41 furrywolf if so, it would even be reasonably compact, since the extra cable could travel inside the cylinder with the rod.
23:42 rue_mohr sofar your using air steam and propane to operate the power side of the cylinders
23:42 furrywolf rue_mohr: I still haven't quite figured out what she's building.
23:43 furrywolf if it has propane in it, some mechanism of containing blowby must be provided...
23:44 rue_mohr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK5jwpUAXnE need to ff about 47 seconds in
23:44 katsmeow-afk rue, nono, the "steam" Is propane, which is also why the pressure never drops to zero, at 80F the propane is 130psi
23:44 furrywolf building a giant stirling engine?
23:45 rue_mohr I think its based on a thermal expansion cycle
23:45 katsmeow-afk blowby is captured by the rod seal, which is why i don't want it to wear by side forces on the shaft
23:45 furrywolf ah
23:45 rue_mohr it could be a solar stirrling engine for pumping water
23:46 furrywolf you're using some method of alternately applying and removing heat to make propane alternately vaporize/expand and condense/contract?

23:47 katsmeow-afk furry, i have three methods of doing that, i call them : sun, fire , electric heater
23:47 furrywolf why the heck are all these things videos?
23:47 furrywolf katsmeow-afk: I'm just trying to figure out what you're building. :)
23:48 katsmeow-afk i told you, i described it, i did ascii art, i dunno what else to do
23:48 furrywolf I mean the whole machine, not one part.
23:49 katsmeow-afk that Is the whole engine, and pump, you want me to describe a heater and an air conditioner condensor coil too?
23:51 furrywolf hrmm, actually, I guess I have seen something similar to my cables-and-wheel system... a nodding donkey is 1/4 of it.
