00:02 furrywolf in theory, and that's a big theory, replacing the electrolyte will get them back to working.
00:04 furrywolf he wants $600 for them... 40 300ah cells.
00:05 furrywolf I'd prefer edison over kursk, but take what you can find, right? heh.
00:21 katsmeow-afk oddly, someone dropped off a pile of NiFe cells at the recycler here too, the tops almost totally destryoyed because he was using them as table legs
00:22 katsmeow-afk they were topped off with rain water
00:23 rue_mohr im back from work
00:23 katsmeow-afk furry, you have any intense sunlight there?
00:23 katsmeow-afk WB RUE!!!!!!
00:24 katsmeow-afk -***** ALERT ALERT rue_mohr is here! *****-
00:24 tsmeow-afk pours a bucket of iced water over rue_

00:27 rue_mohr !time
00:27 tobbor My watch says its 22:20 Mon May 07 2012
00:27 rue_mohr not too bad here
00:27 katsmeow-afk it's aweful that all the good times in the evening have evil twin tmes in the morning
00:33 katsmeow-afk hmm, wierd when there's a netsplit, and i don't show any of it in channel
00:33 furrywolf do you have joins/parts turned off?
00:33 rue_mohr I do
00:33 rue_mohr too much garbage
00:34 katsmeow-afk turned off and de-scripted
00:34 furrywolf many scripts/clients hide it as well
00:34 katsmeow-afk there's just too much i/o traffic in here all the time
00:36 rue_mohr yea
00:37 katsmeow-afk jeese, all day i did not injury myself, and in 10 minutes upstairs i got my paws all red, and a bruise rising up over my thumb-knuckle
00:37 furrywolf :(
00:38 katsmeow-afk furry, you have any intense sunlight there?
00:38 furrywolf it was sunny the first half of today
00:38 katsmeow-afk was that it all year?!?
00:39 furrywolf pretty much.
00:39 katsmeow-afk wow, shoots down my idea
00:39 furrywolf we've had 73" of rain so far, though.
00:39 katsmeow-afk got a valley of your own?
00:40 furrywolf ?
00:40 katsmeow-afk rain -- water -- hydropower
00:40 furrywolf nope
00:40 katsmeow-afk sun - heat - thermalpower
00:40 furrywolf I have a small, flat lot, in a small valley, with no moving water near it.
00:41 furrywolf no wind thanks to being in the valley
00:41 furrywolf and only marginal sun. I average about 1-2 peak sun hours per day.
00:41 katsmeow-afk is that all the sun lasts there, or you have trees?
00:42 furrywolf peak sun hours are a measure of the total amount of sun... if you have two peak sun hours, 1000W of panels will make 2kwh. that doesn't mean it's sunny for only two hours... it could be half-sunny for four hours, etc.
00:42 furrywolf rain, clouds, and coastal fog are the big problems.
00:43 katsmeow-afk ah
00:43 katsmeow-afk wanna hear my idea anyhow? will you pay me if you do it amd make money?
00:44 furrywolf hrmm. this sounds like one of those situations where companies say "suggestions become our exclusive property", "script ideas will be returned unread", or something similar...
00:44 katsmeow-afk sorry :-(
00:45 furrywolf is your idea a solar thermal plant built with scrap parts?
00:45 katsmeow-afk not exactly, not quite, but possibly
00:45 furrywolf lol
00:46 furrywolf anything based on concentrating solar won't work well here, because the constant coastal fog (I'm about a mile from the bay...) means most of the insolation is diffuse light.
00:46 katsmeow-afk oh,, i'll close the pm then
00:53 rue_mohr goodnight
00:53 furrywolf cyas
00:54 katsmeow-afk happy sleeps
01:17 e_mohr wakes up off his keyabord to read kats com
01:25 home_ hi...
01:31 rrywolf tucks kat in for bed
01:31 katsmeow-afk zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
01:32 rrywolf curls up next to kat, since it's wolfy bedtime
01:32 katsmeow-afk goodnites :-)
01:32 furrywolf :)
09:04 rue_mohr "Well this should be about as hard as a cyote catching a roadrunner... wait, that might not be a good example..."
09:36 dianaRonaldo is b
09:36 furrywolf next time, be more careful with the drill.
11:19 rrywolf hops on kat's
11:21 tsmeow-afk falls asleep a
19:08 rue_mohr I'm home
19:08 rue_mohr and I thnk I'm turning off all the phones
19:08 Tom_itx naw leave at least one on
19:09 Tom_itx or spend the evening with your buds on irc
19:09 rue_mohr who?
19:09 rue_mohr oh, right
19:14 rue_mohr on large burns I get a 90% re-adhesion rate, I wonder how I can get the other 10%
19:16 rue_mohr http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1fpg6oXjT1qhx44a.jpg do I have a problem or is there more than a forrest to that forrest when I squint...
19:17 Tom_itx you don't need to squint to see that
19:19 rue_mohr so its not me then...
19:20 Tom_itx i dunno, what do you see?
19:24 Tom_itx katsmeow-afk, be nice to your neighbor dogs it may be doing you a favor: http://shine.yahoo.com/pets/pet-food-recalled-after-salmonella-outbreak.html
19:33 d|re hullo
19:47 Skwint ping ping ... oh, you are just squinting at things :
20:44 katsmeow-afk rue, you still looking for manchester encoding chips?
20:44 furrywolf the guy who was going to buy my inverter fucking flaked.
20:48 katsmeow-afk rue, if you do : http://www.ebay.com/itm/330728435192
20:51 Tom_itx wasn't even aware they made hardware manchester encoding
20:52 katsmeow-afk yeas, way back when
20:52 katsmeow-afk Seeq no longer exists, and i dunno where you'd get data sheets for their stuff
20:53 Tom_itx how can you tell that's what it is?
20:54 tsmeow-afk has a snart
21:39 katsmeow-afk well, this sucks
21:40 katsmeow-afk the water pump maxes out at 20psi, not anywhere close to it's 50psi rating
21:40 Tom_itx going uphill?
21:40 katsmeow-afk nopw
21:41 Tom_itx that sucks
21:41 Tom_itx gear or jet pump?
21:41 katsmeow-afk 5ft suction lift to the pump, then ~2ft up, then thru the house pipe back down to about the same water level as in the tank outside, is where this toilet is
21:42 katsmeow-afk centrifugal impeller
21:42 katsmeow-afk that's 3 pumps i have bought that don't meet ratings
21:46 furrywolf odd. were they all from china?
21:47 furrywolf do you have sufficient power to them?
22:06 katsmeow-afk yeas, eventually, all are rebranded made in china
22:07 katsmeow-afk but that should mean they burn out fast, they should still meet spec till then
22:07 furrywolf try one that isn't. :)
22:08 furrywolf it seems every day these days, I see at least ten "I bought an <x> from china, and it (broke|caught fire|didn't meet specs|didn't even look like what I ordered|was fake|had fake parts|was unsafe|...)" conversations.
22:08 katsmeow-afk i let it run 15 minutes, it held at 18psi, shut it off, and the water was still at 18psi 5 minutes later, so no leaks
22:09 tsmeow-afk s
22:10 furrywolf do you have sufficient power? that is, not at the end of a long wire run, at 60hz, etc?
22:10 katsmeow-afk there is sufficient power
22:14 furrywolf in another channel I'm in, someone bought some remote light/appliance switches, and found the ground wasn't connected, with the qc passed sticker put right over the hole where the ground should have been.
22:15 furrywolf these conversations are happening way, way too often, and it's always chinese products.
22:16 katsmeow-afk well, i may haveto do without indoor water then
22:17 furrywolf check for restrictions in the suction line - should be the same size pipe/hose as the input fitting, never thinner at any point, and with a free-flowing check valve.
22:18 katsmeow-afk problem isn't flow, it's lack of pressure
22:19 furrywolf unless there's no flow, they're pretty related...
22:19 furrywolf most pumps will make well over their rating if ran into a closed valve, even chinese ones.
22:20 katsmeow-afk fuck, will yoou take my word on this, i held the intake in a 40gal trashcan full of water and it just about emptied it in 20 seconds
22:20 katsmeow-afk at zero psi
22:21 rrywolf chalks it up to yet another chinese product with imaginary s
22:28 furrywolf I'm beginning to really avoid chinese products when possible... so much of it is fake in some fashion.
22:29 katsmeow-afk but the flip side is: there's no reason the usa products cost so bloody much more
22:30 furrywolf I'd try to rummage a pump up for you, but the shipping would exceed its value.
22:34 furrywolf I traded away the last one I had... the guy didn't have any money, so I had him dig a few fencepost holes instead. :)
22:36 rrywolf likes ba
22:37 katsmeow-afk i have a big very old jetpump someone turned in as scrap, i got it cheap because it's mostly plastic by volume, but i have no clue if it works, i'll power it up tomorrow, i guess
22:38 katsmeow-afk it's going to take some doing
22:38 furrywolf bad seals are the most common problem, I've found.
22:40 katsmeow-afk i have found if it's this old, you cannot get parts for it
22:40 furrywolf often, yep.
22:40 furrywolf I've found the ones with squarish cast iron heads to work best and longest.
22:42 katsmeow-afk Home Depot ocal has a few of those, byt he same company that i already bought a pump by, that won't meet spec, and darned if i'll buy another by the same oem
22:44 furrywolf try craigslist
22:44 furrywolf or whatever you use for classifieds out there
23:08 katsmeow-afk what if i put the pumps in series?
23:09 furrywolf may work, may not...
23:10 furrywolf may blow out seals.
23:10 furrywolf the inlet side might not be meant for pressure, if the pump had an outlet check valve rather than an inlet foot valve.
23:34 katsmeow-afk $600 http://www.lowes.com/pd_355101-57366-JHU15S_0__?productId=3416902&Ntt=jet+pump&Ns=p_product_price|0&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Djet%2Bpump%26Ns%3Dp_product_price%7C0&facetInfo=
23:36 furrywolf that should work, but not cheap.
23:36 katsmeow-afk i can't afford it, basically
23:37 furrywolf do you need the extra suction of a venturi pump? it pushes the price up. if you're always only going to be pulling 5ft, you don't need it.
23:37 katsmeow-afk it's the only pump i seen that will push over 40psi tho
23:38 furrywolf tried posting on craigslist/your local classifieds looking for a used cast iron jet pump?
23:38 katsmeow-afk jeeze, i think i can build a piston pump with a car starter that will do 80psi to get water thru the filters so ic an flush the toilet
23:39 katsmeow-afk can't post, they have some wierd javascript that IE and FF won't run
23:39 katsmeow-afk something baout the password
23:39 furrywolf who is they?
23:39 katsmeow-afk [23:28] <furrywolf> tried posting on craigslist ......... ?
23:40 katsmeow-afk [23:29] <katsmeow-afk> can't post, they have some wierd javascript that IE and FF won't run
23:40 furrywolf car starters are very intermittant duty as well as very inefficient... not good for water pumps. :)
23:40 furrywolf craigslist has the most basic html of virtually any popular website.
23:40 katsmeow-afk i ALREADY don't have a good water pump!
23:40 furrywolf what happens when you try posting?
23:40 katsmeow-afk says i am not logged in
23:41 furrywolf do you use norton internet security or other evil products?
23:41 katsmeow-afk no
23:41 furrywolf do you block cookies?
23:41 furrywolf craigslist works for me in firefox, even with noscript.
23:42 katsmeow-afk sometimes, but i accepted them for craigslist
