00:47 rue_house katsmeow-afk, I vowed to NOT switch microcontrollers every 3 months
00:47 rue_house its easy to do
10:05 delinquentme if im using an appropriately powered stepper ... and I zero it once at the beginning of starting the machine up
10:06 delinquentme that should be sufficient for accuracy right? like add an encoder on the stepper and you're golden
12:15 Tom_itx delinquentme unless it misses steps
12:15 Tom_itx an encoder on a stepper is harder to get tuned. they generally have different counts per rev
12:16 home hety :)
14:51 delinquentme really good price to cost for a stepper motor with mounted / matched encoder?
15:37 katsmeow-afk i think, like Tom, that putting an encoder on a stepper is a bad idea
15:37 katsmeow-afk that said, there are encoders built into some steppers, just find them if you want one
15:38 katsmeow-afk the only good reason for putting an encore on a stepper is if you think it will skip steps because it';s too small, or you want to know where it is when it wakes up
15:39 katsmeow-afk in which case, put the encoder on the shaft the encoder moves, not on the encoder

17:44 Squint Poor dog
17:44 Squint The cat brought it on itself - the dog is a victim
17:44 SolarNRG The cat didn't understand mirrors and couldn't see itself from that angle, thought it was a window
17:48 Squint Even so, the cat acted under its own free will and made a mistake
17:54 SolarNRG I agree dressing a dog up like an ATAT is pretty cruel

20:58 DanFrederiksen Tom_itx, electric cars for the win
20:59 Tom_itx so how's yours coming?
21:02 DanFrederiksen I'm not building one
21:03 Tom_itx you were working on one
21:03 Tom_itx go electric in a smart car
21:04 DanFrederiksen not really. I made a proposal for moderate funding from a municipal but teh technical mayer was an idiot
21:04 DanFrederiksen it was leading up to COP15
21:04 DanFrederiksen the shithead decided on some very expensive hydrogen fuel cell think cars
21:05 DanFrederiksen never mind that it's well know hfc has too many technical problems to ever be
21:05 DanFrederiksen known*
21:05 DanFrederiksen each one cost more than a tesla roadster
21:05 DanFrederiksen I doubt they were even put to use
21:06 DanFrederiksen have you ever seen the movie Idiocracy?
21:07 DanFrederiksen that's how I feel about most people in charge. the lights are on but nobody is home
21:27 katsmeow-afk The study, the first of its kind in the US, was based on records from more than 4,000 hospitals across the country.
21:27 katsmeow-afk It found that in 2009, about 13,500 babies were born with withdrawal symptoms - roughly one every hour.
21:30 katsmeow-afk Australia has listed the koala as a threatened species in parts of the country due to its dwindling population, officials say. <<== but 10 years ago they were boobytrapping food for them with birth controls drugs!!
21:34 katsmeow-afk http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17857189 Raspberry Pi computer review: 'a great step forward'
21:35 Centauri too ad they takeing so long to deliver
21:42 katsmeow-afk We’re excited to report that our next shipment of 4,000 Raspberry Pi’s has now left our manufacturers in Asia and will be on their way to customers next week! We have a further 12,000 due to arrive with us by the third week of May and regular volume shipments thereafter .
21:42 katsmeow-afk By early next week all 110,000 customers who have ordered with element14, wherever they are in the world, will receive a confirmed delivery date ( which, as previously communicated, will be no later than the end of June for those who ordered before April 18th) .
21:53 katsmeow-afk Pi now ships with more languages built in :
21:53 katsmeow-afk 1.5 Hello world
21:53 katsmeow-afk 1.5.1 Bash
21:53 katsmeow-afk 1.5.2 Python
21:53 katsmeow-afk 1.5.3 java
21:53 katsmeow-afk 1.5.4 C

21:55 katsmeow-afk 1080p playback: 0.75A (about 3h on 4 AA batteries)
21:56 katsmeow-afk USB buss
21:56 katsmeow-afk All IO uses the same bus so the combination of all IO can not exceed the the bus speed of an as yet hypothetical 60MB/s
22:01 Tom_itx kat, how bad are the storms?
22:29 iR0b0t1 If i need to connect multiple sensor "blobs", interconnected with I2C or similar, would running wires in a star topology or running sequentially (with signal taps right next to the device) use less wire?
22:34 Tom_itx less wire isn't always the best answer
22:35 iR0b0t1 What would you suggest?
22:35 iR0b0t1 The sensor blobs are IR detectors that would be going on a vest.
22:35 katsmeow-afk storms are drifting straight to the east, big hunk staying in .ks, 2hrs ago big hunk came into .ok from .tx , it's been stationary in .ok since
22:37 iR0b0t1 Kansas gets its own domain suffix?
22:37 iR0b0t1 Cool.
22:37 0b0t1 wants a .ks s

22:44 katsmeow-afk the storms coming in from .tx to .ok are 60k tall, show mesocyclone and hail on radar
22:45 katsmeow-afk the ones mainly in .ks but dropping slightly into .ok are also showing tornado vortex signatures
22:45 Tom_itx so i hear
22:46 iR0b0t1 are you a pussy
22:46 iR0b0t1 it is only a tornado :3
22:46 katsmeow-afk but you asked me
22:47 Centauri :O
22:47 Centauri meow
22:47 Tom_itx just wondered whether to put on my parachute or not
22:47 Centauri yes
22:51 katsmeow-afk no, but you might consider a storm shelter
22:52 katsmeow-afk i think the worst of it will go to your south
22:52 Centauri lol
22:53 katsmeow-afk hmm?
22:56 Centauri heh
22:56 Centauri Shalkl we define the terms
22:57 Tom_itx katsmeow-afk, south and east?
22:57 Tom_itx that's generally the path they take
22:57 katsmeow-afk yeas
22:58 Centauri lol
22:58 Centauri nawty fgals
22:58 katsmeow-afk they are moving very slowly, so they could halt and grow in place, or slowly change dir
23:00 katsmeow-afk what's fgals ?
23:02 rue_house felepium-galium arrayed linear singularities
23:02 Centauri heh
23:07 rue_house their used in computing
23:07 katsmeow-afk 65k cloudtops, stoms increasing in size and strngth, heading more northwards
23:09 rue_house "eat me. ... no WAIT, I mean FEED me..."
23:09 katsmeow-afk the local weatehr reporting is a lil late, but the storms are to your south and east
23:09 rue_house "out the window" forecast?
23:10 katsmeow-afk if that one storm ever lets go of .tx, okc is gonna be pounded

23:14 katsmeow-afk http://images.travelpod.com/users/vanheerden/1.1298045392.pannawonica-s-weather-rock.jpg
23:14 rue_house se, no radar required
23:14 rue_house just go check the rock
23:16 katsmeow-afk but isn't checking a rock like believing in religious icons?
23:17 orlok nah, no faith required in the state of the rock
23:18 orlok its either wet, dry, swinging, hot, cold, covered in snow
23:18 orlok or missing.
23:18 katsmeow-afk so if it's wet, you do not haveto believe it's raining?
23:22 rue_house its all reduced to a simple matter of evaluating the rocks state
23:23 tsmeow-afk thinks the rock cult leaders are complicit in a coveup, a outright deceit, in hanging The Rock so high that no one can determine if it's d
23:25 rue_house dusty isn't good, sand storm
23:26 katsmeow-afk right, the are hiding this data from us, so we cannot make an informed decision
23:26 rue_house no its just part of the advanced usage
23:27 rue_house different areas impliment different conditional sets
23:27 katsmeow-afk errr, you haveto pay The Rock's tenders to get the advanced interpretation?
23:27 rue_house ythe ones implemented in mexico dont account for snow
23:27 katsmeow-afk it snows in Mexico
23:28 rue_house ok bad example

23:30 tsmeow-afk ponders crashing e
23:30 rue_house I'm trying to draw humans
23:31 rue_house they keep comming out disfigured
23:35 rue_house in realation to the face, where are the tops of the ears of a human?
23:36 iR0b0t1 draw a human
23:36 iR0b0t1 not what you think is a human
23:37 katsmeow-afk think about how eye glasses hang on the face
23:37 katsmeow-afk then the ear size follows usually from age and sex
23:38 katsmeow-afk men have more cartlidge, so structures make of cartlidge are larger, or longer, like the end of nose, the outer ear, space tween vertebra, etc
23:38 rue_house females have small ears?
23:38 katsmeow-afk and cartlidge grows thruout life, so the older a person is, the more cartlidge they have
23:38 katsmeow-afk generally, femailes have smaller ears than generaly males
23:39 katsmeow-afk the nonsense about where the ear is on the skull based on sex, however, is nonsense imho, it hasto do with apeparances based on the tilt of the head
23:42 rue_house there, I'll call this one you kat!
23:42 rue_house unless you really dont like it
23:42 katsmeow-afk i can't see it, move your hand
23:43 rue_house hold on!
23:45 rue_house it would have looked dark, the scanner wasn't plugged in
23:45 rue_house fixing..
23:46 rue_house the symettry is a bit off, sorry

23:48 katsmeow-afk heh, i don't mind
23:48 rue_house :)
23:49 rue_house I think it came out pretty good for my first head that isn't just a circle
23:49 katsmeow-afk i dunno why, but female eyebrows droop at the outside ends
23:49 rue_house hmm
23:49 katsmeow-afk just the opposite of Vulcan eyebrows
23:50 rue_house now I need to work on a body
23:50 rue_house I'll spare your name or you'll make a trip over here specifially to shoot me
23:50 rue_house ;)

23:51 biscuitWizard Hello, everyone.
23:51 rue_house hello wizard
23:53 rue_house well , according to that my eyes or nose isn't right
23:53 katsmeow-afk hmm, interesting website
23:53 biscuitWizard I'd be formal and such but I am on a holy quest to find a high speed switched reluctance motor drive. It's a bit of a long shot, but would anyone know of some that go up to 6,000 RPMs and offer up to 80 ft/lbs torque? :P
23:54 biscuitWizard I've been mostly finding brushed DC motors. :/
23:54 rue_house 80 foot-lbs...
23:55 rue_house dont they make them for boats?
23:55 biscuitWizard Oh, good idea. They might be brushed DC due to cost, though.
23:56 biscuitWizard EVs typically have motors in this range, but they're brushed, too.
23:56 rue_house no
23:56 rue_house I seen them for sail boats
23:56 rue_house you converting a small vehicle?
23:57 rue_house katsmeow-afk, do you know what that is in HP?
23:57 biscuitWizard I am converting a small vehicle. Guilty. :( Just seeking more efficiency than what's available.
23:58 rue_house I'm planning to just make my own motor
23:58 rue_house rare earth on the rotor and I'm thinking of making the stator like a stepper motor
23:58 rue_house with axial coils
23:58 rue_house and magnetic paths
23:59 biscuitWizard Like a permanent magnet brushless DC motor?
23:59 rue_house yea
23:59 biscuitWizard You'll get the best efficiency out of that, it'll just be a little heavy, I think.
23:59 rue_house na
