00:04 katsmeow-afk k
00:04 rue_shop I'll see if it cracks when it cools
00:04 katsmeow-afk what if the glass breaks when it's full of melted solder?
00:04 rue_shop sorry, kinda tried it without getting back to irc
00:04 rue_shop thats why I had goggles on, but it was ok
00:05 rue_shop I put a spill plate under it
00:07 katsmeow-afk how will you heat it to melt the solder?
00:11 rue_house the bulb
00:11 rue_house 50W was enough
00:11 rue_house possibly to much even
00:11 katsmeow-afk need pics, i don't see ow it held melty solder
00:11 rue_house 10 mins, I have a video of using it
00:11 rue_house plks wait
00:20 rue_house http://youtu.be/PHI2GVDeTuk
00:21 rue_house yesno?
00:21 rue_house is it awesome!?
00:22 katsmeow-afk yeas, but how is the solder staying on top of the bulb?
00:22 rue_house its pooled in the bulbs built-on reflector
00:23 katsmeow-afk \ii/ ?
00:23 rue_house yes
00:23 katsmeow-afk wow
00:24 katsmeow-afk the solder won't flow down to the pins of the bulb?
00:24 rue_house I dind't think the reflector could take the heat, but its kinda makes sense that it can
00:24 rue_house no, the bulb pins are surrcounded by glass all the way down
00:25 katsmeow-afk now to see if it'sbusted the glass to bits when cooled tomorrow morning
00:25 katsmeow-afk i gotobed
00:26 rue_house yea, I'm interested if it'll hold togethor or not
00:26 katsmeow-afk gnites
01:04 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/elex/solderpot/main.html
01:15 rue_house ?
01:15 rue_house yea?
01:48 rue_bed awe, there all asleep
01:48 e_bed bangs a few metal garbage can lids toge
01:48 e_bed looks ar
01:48 rue_bed *sigh*
09:13 katsmeow-afk AAACKKKK
09:15 katsmeow-afk oh, i have never seen those cube lite things you used
09:16 katsmeow-afk you should note for the newbies, don't use plumbing solder with plumbing flux, because it's acid
09:19 katsmeow-afk blatant asking for money ANd females at the end?!
09:36 rue_house not money
09:36 rue_house I want washing machine valves
09:36 SolarNRG I've tried and retried to do a sand impression of a gear with greensand, I've tried olive oil, I've tried talc powder with a sock.. every time the sand gets clogged between the convulated teeth. Am I correct in assuming spur gears cannot be cast with sand?
09:36 rue_house solar!
09:37 SolarNRG Hiya rue
09:37 rue_house yes
09:37 SolarNRG http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoZHta8giAI
09:37 SolarNRG This was about 5 attempts ago
09:37 rue_house dont give up on casting, you will get it
09:37 SolarNRG I since worked out to screw the tap the correct way
09:38 rue_house love to stay and talk, have to go to work!
09:38 SolarNRG :(
09:39 SolarNRG quickly b4 u gp
09:39 SolarNRG can i mold gears with latex?
09:39 rue_house dunno
09:39 katsmeow-afk i told you how to do it, SolarNRG
09:39 rue_house SolarNRG, "lost foam"
09:40 SolarNRG I want to make a foam copy of my gear first
09:40 SolarNRG I don't want to lose the templates
09:40 katsmeow-afk yep, you can mold the gears with latex, lemme know how pouring melted metals into the latex works for you
09:40 katsmeow-afk lost foam, lost wax, etc
09:40 SolarNRG Hang on, I want to pour WAX into the latex first
09:40 SolarNRG Then dip the WAX in molochite repeatedly
09:40 SolarNRG Then melt it out upside down
09:41 katsmeow-afk ok, do that, use the lowest temp wax you can get, not the high temp macineable stuff
09:41 SolarNRG Then pour the steel in
09:41 SolarNRG What wax do you recommend?
09:41 katsmeow-afk the lowest temp wax you can get
09:41 SolarNRG Candle wax?
09:42 katsmeow-afk the lowest temp candle wax you can get
09:42 tsmeow-afk s
09:43 SolarNRG Also if I reinforce the backside of the latex with plaster of paris, will it allow me to re-use the latex more than once reliably?
09:44 katsmeow-afk if you can part the latex off the hardened plaster, yeas, and the form will be far more accurate
09:44 katsmeow-afk and yo can use less latex
09:45 SolarNRG I looked into platinum cure and I was horrified at the cost
09:45 SolarNRG plaster of paris, wax and latex are CHEAP
09:46 katsmeow-afk i dunno "platinum cure"
09:47 SolarNRG Mold star 30
09:47 katsmeow-afk i dunno "Mold star 30"
09:47 SolarNRG Its flexible, remains shape, can be cut, works at hi temp
09:47 SolarNRG http://www.benam.co.uk/images/uploads/product_files/Mold-Star-Series.pdf
09:48 SolarNRG Very minimal shrinkage
09:48 katsmeow-afk i have used epoxy and bondo as a casting material, but keeping it from sticking can be a problem
09:48 katsmeow-afk do they have non-pdf webpages??
09:48 SolarNRG Yeah, that's the problem I've been having with a lot of my attempts
09:48 SolarNRG Hmm
09:51 katsmeow-afk for sites that talk only pdf, i simply don't go there
09:51 katsmeow-afk it's bad practice
09:51 SolarNRG http://www.smooth-on.com/Platinum-Cure-Sili/c1115/index.html
09:52 SolarNRG How's that?
09:52 SolarNRG Adobe takes over your system
09:52 SolarNRG Ipads can't read adobe anything, not flash, not pdf nothing
09:53 katsmeow-afk looks pricey
09:54 SolarNRG Yeah I know
09:54 SolarNRG But Latex is like 7 quid for 5 litres
09:54 katsmeow-afk man it's cold in here, specially for the end of April, and i still have a cold, gotta go warm up, bbl
09:54 SolarNRG Its cold here too
09:54 tsmeow-afk is in usa and dunno q
09:55 katsmeow-afk i know liters is ~1/2 gal
09:55 katsmeow-afk bbl
09:57 SolarNRG I always thought it was 4.5 litres to the gal
11:17 katsmeow-afk Conversion result: 3.785 L (liters), assuming gallons is US liquid gallons. Computed by Wolfram|Alphaat Wed Apr 25 11:07:47 CDT 2012
11:31 Skwint according to todays xkcd there are 3 + (pi/4) litres in a galon
11:31 Skwint if that helps with your conversions
11:54 SolarNRG Yeah there is a difference between US gallon and UK gallon
12:37 tsmeow-afk forgot, the bottles used to transfer from store to gallon jugs was indeed 2-liter bottles, so it was ~1.8 x 2liters = 1 us ga
14:04 dunz0r Yay! I think my 3kg sumo is almost done \o/
14:04 dunz0r Got delays for avoiding edges and what not sorted out and everything
14:04 dunz0r They even scale with speed \o/
15:54 katsmeow-afk http://www.abcnews.go.com/US/jersey-autistic-boy-records-teachers-alleged-abuse/print?id=16209626
15:56 SolarNRG Kids with autism should be home educated and not be forced to go to school where they are bullied because they are different
15:57 katsmeow-afk why can't they goto school where they are not bullied??
16:14 Skwint hi - I'm tall and thin and wear glasses - I went to a school and got bullied
16:15 Skwint well, until I hit 2m in height, then they left me alone after that :)
16:15 Skwint and I think the reason is because humans suck
16:15 SolarNRG No, I think the school system was never intended to teach, but to indoctrinate
16:16 Skwint I don't think "THE" can be applied to "school system" on the internet
17:33 Tom_itx http://www2.electronicproducts.com/Hobbyist_uses_nose_of_Boeing_737_to_build_flight_simulator_in_garage-article-fajb_garage_flight_simulator_apr2012-html.aspx
17:40 Tom_itx kat, no more extrusion
18:20 katsmeow-afk drat
19:16 SolarNRG wow
19:16 SolarNRG I bet he uses it to re-enact 9/11
19:16 SolarNRG I think it would be cool to get a couple of ragheads doing it in tribute
19:57 Tom_itx got it cut to a managable size now: http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/temp/cnc/psu/heatsink1.jpg
19:57 Tom_itx and squared the ends up on the mill: http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/temp/cnc/psu/heatsink2.jpg
20:14 DanFrederiksen Tom_itx, what you making?
20:14 Tom_itx just updating the mill a bit
20:15 katsmeow-afk "this auction is for 15 pcs waterproof switch, switch not included"
20:22 Tom_itx DanFrederiksen, i just cut the end off some heatsink material and squared it up to mount my new stepper drivers to it
20:23 Tom_itx found it at the scrap yard
20:23 DanFrederiksen driver of own design?
20:23 Tom_itx nope
20:42 zhanx evening
21:05 katsmeow-afk points to anyone, figuring out why this shuttle is not on NASA's 747 transport , one guess http://tinyurl.com/7828l2m
21:05 katsmeow-afk :
21:57 DanFrederiksen katsmeow-afk, because it's buran and not the US shuttle? :)
21:57 DanFrederiksen someone tell katsmeow-afk that I answered her

22:51 katsmeow-afk http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2012-04/faa-releases-list-showing-who-flying-drones-us-and-where-they-are-flying-them
22:53 katsmeow-afk "The current projections suggest that power consumption of exascale computers will be 100 megawatts. It's impossible to build a suitable facility and have enough power."
22:53 katsmeow-afk Historically, a computer's processor has used the most power (around 40-50% of the total) Nikolopoulos says, but memory is rapidly catching it up.
23:40 home_ guys
23:40 home_ I want a pandaboard es XD
