00:00 zhanx my ice system for 1097's (same engine) lets me change that for gm crap
00:00 katsmeow-afk ice system?
00:01 zhanx mil spec system like gm has for computers
00:01 katsmeow-afk course, this engine has over 200k miles on it too, not sure what replacing the injector witht he right one will do to it
00:01 katsmeow-afk ah, yeas, the GM 6.5 for the hummer is a diff animal, it's also now a 4-bolt main
00:02 zhanx with a new oil pan that is "almost the same"
00:02 zhanx rear main seal is slightly thinner but you cant see it with the eye
00:03 katsmeow-afk pours oil when hot?
00:03 zhanx if you use the 6.2 seal
00:03 tsmeow-afk
00:03 zhanx one of those well it looks the same but aint
00:03 katsmeow-afk whatever happened to making electric humvees?
00:03 zhanx no clue
00:04 katsmeow-afk prolly too pricey, they were real quiet, and had loads of onboard 120vac power, but prolly ran out of juice crossing the base
00:05 katsmeow-afk peole don't understand: you want 100hp for an hour? you need 100 seriously big batteries
00:06 zhanx true and that costs
00:06 katsmeow-afk and it's heavy and takes up space
00:08 katsmeow-afk i filled up all the spare space in a VW beatle with batteries, including replacing the gas tank with batteries, poor car sat there with it's wheels all splayed out
00:13 katsmeow-afk "this is an *electric* HMMV, do *not* drive it in water!!"
00:14 zhanx wait this hmwv has a snorkel kit on it dont drive it in water
00:14 katsmeow-afk what?
00:14 zhanx its in the tm
00:14 katsmeow-afk then why the snorkle?
00:14 zhanx for dust
00:15 katsmeow-afk still needs a bigger air filter if dust is a problem
00:15 zhanx it raises it higher to get less
00:16 katsmeow-afk by that theory, dust should not be aproblem for helos
00:16 zhanx you would think that
00:16 katsmeow-afk no, *i* knew better
00:17 katsmeow-afk not only can you sandblast the lift blades, you can get glass forming on the turbine blades
00:17 katsmeow-afk and a distracting light show
00:18 katsmeow-afk damn i wish i was useful
00:21 katsmeow-afk you know Iran is showing Venesuela how to make cruise missiles now?
00:22 katsmeow-afk and i'll bet Ven is showing Cuba
00:30 rue_house and the farther back I go, the more I find surprises about what I liked that got me into all this stuff
00:32 rue_house that and a basic drive to get off the planet...
00:38 home okay
00:38 home anyone here Xd lol
00:39 rue_house I'm asleep (sssh)
00:55 home I AM HERE
00:55 home fail, just answered my own question..
00:55 home so I manged to get my WRT54G to talk with my Arduino
00:55 home I can send and receive signals.. (hopefully I am playing with the right voltages)
00:56 home can make leds turn on and off :/
00:56 home just need some servos now.. XD
01:20 scanf home: are you making a routerbot?
08:50 rue_house he's gone..
08:52 Steffanx He..
08:59 rue_house he is gone
08:59 rue_house !seen he
08:59 tobbor I have never seen he
08:59 rue_house !seen she
08:59 tobbor I have never seen she
08:59 rue_house iiiinteresting
08:59 Steffanx rue_house see's ghosts
08:59 Steffanx *sees
09:00 rue_house they all /part ed before their time
09:00 rue_house I got a dos machine on utp yesterday and I'm impressed
09:01 Steffanx impressed..
09:01 rue_house echo one two three
09:02 rue_house one two three four
09:02 Steffanx That's the short version of "Why you're impressed" or "Impressed by what"
09:02 Steffanx Impressed by having UTP on a DOS machine?
09:02 rue_house that dos drivers are still available
09:11 sw0rdfish I need a good ebook reader
09:13 Steffanx I need $100.000
09:13 DanFrederiksen cool billion please
09:14 DanFrederiksen and ET disclosure
09:14 Steffanx *100,000
09:16 Tom_itx what's a good scientific calculator to get?
09:17 Steffanx windows calc?
09:17 Tom_itx doesn't have all i need
09:17 Steffanx pass
09:17 Tom_itx there are ebook readers. i had one for linux for a while
09:18 Tom_itx ask inflex in avr about it
09:18 Steffanx The question is.. sw0rdfish needs an ebook reader for his pc
09:18 Steffanx or a 'real' ereader
09:19 sw0rdfish :o
09:19 Steffanx :P
09:19 sw0rdfish heh
09:19 sw0rdfish I just want something thats ok for the eyes
09:19 Steffanx ah, so something like a kiddle
09:20 sw0rdfish well at least ... until I can afford an e-reader .... tell me should I read on my CRT screen or laptop screen?
09:21 Steffanx No, it's sucks to read a book from a laptop screen and/or crt :P
09:21 katsmeow-afk furry, i think i can say now why/how you'd get radial play and need to use ball joints at the ends of the tie rod ends: you'll be attaching the cylinder block to the swashplate with a universal, it gets wear, you get radial offset, then you reverse rotation, you get offset in the other direction, this won't hurt the pistons for them to rotate in the bores, but will torque stress the tie rods
09:21 sw0rdfish all my books on robotics, electricity, C, math, physics are ebooks ... lol thats like 10 or 11 hours of e-reading a day
09:21 sw0rdfish but you know what
09:22 sw0rdfish I'm young and strong... I bet I can handle it for a a few years
09:22 sw0rdfish until I can afford something decent on the eyes :)
09:22 sw0rdfish for at least a few years*
09:22 Steffanx Just curious, where in the world they still use a CRT? :P
09:22 rue_house view ->rotate counterclockwise and hold the laptop like a book
09:23 katsmeow-afk high speed scopes
09:24 Steffanx Nah, I just wondered where sw0rdfish is from
09:24 sw0rdfish phunny.
09:25 katsmeow-afk and if rue can make his quantum computer, he'll need picosec access ram, and the high speed crt can be used as a 512x512bit ram array, it's been done
09:25 sw0rdfish you make it sound like the citizens of the western world are rich
09:25 sw0rdfish what? CRT's have ram?
09:25 Steffanx Nah, it has more to do with.. lcd's are cheap :P
09:26 katsmeow-afk some crt have memory effect where the electron beam has been on
09:26 Steffanx That's why i wondered where you're from sw0rdfish :)
09:26 sw0rdfish you don't know my situation Steffanx
09:26 sw0rdfish and I'm not gonna discuss it in irc :)
09:26 katsmeow-afk lcd are cheap, but they aren't useable terahz ram
09:26 Steffanx No, you shouldn't sw0rdfish
09:27 sw0rdfish :)
09:27 Steffanx Enough people complaining about their life on irc
09:27 sw0rdfish lol yeah.
09:28 sw0rdfish katsmeow-afk, someone was saying "This is awesome" about that spy base they're building, and when I asked him doesn't he mind... he said "I'm not a terrorist, I have nothing to hide, they can feel free to spy on me"
09:29 Squint it makes me want to send emails full of random numbers to my friends
09:29 Squint just because I can :)
09:29 sw0rdfish Squint?
09:29 katsmeow-afk in a way, that's true, but invariably these db leak to the wrong people, same as a creditcard database, and then there's no end of trouble
09:29 sw0rdfish katsmeow-afk, so yeah thats how careless some people are.
09:29 Squint I'm pretty sure the US listen to my emails - I'm about 100 yards from a US spy base in the UK ;)
09:30 sw0rdfish haha
09:30 Squint sorry - it's an RAF base, obviously
09:30 sw0rdfish maybe the one katsmeow-afk told me about before yesterday.
09:30 Steffanx All you say here is saved anyway
09:30 Squint the fact that everyone on it has US weapons and US accents is a complete coincidence ;)
09:30 katsmeow-afk heh, right
09:30 Steffanx Thank the dutch government for that
09:30 sw0rdfish but katsmeow-afk, no one would think in a way like "why is such a spy base devoted to the citizens, are they preparing for something the citizens won't like?"
09:31 Squint no, because that's a question, and clearly doesn't need asking :p
09:31 sw0rdfish Squint, wow really? its officially a RAF but with US ...etc
09:32 Squint http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Menwith_Hill
09:32 rue_house hahah I maea a motion filter based on a mass and a spring and it oscillates horrily :)
09:32 e_house adds fric
09:32 katsmeow-afk it isn't citizens exactly they want to watch, it's only those who don't do what those in power say to do, got to keep the slaves under control
09:32 sw0rdfish I maea? you mean "I made"? .... rue_house?
09:33 rue_house echo one two three
09:33 katsmeow-afk oh come on sw0rdfish, rue is training his nn to understand tyops
09:33 Squint I read it as "I need"
09:33 Squint didn't even realise it wasn't
09:33 sw0rdfish lol
09:33 e_house sticks a green QC PASSED sticker on Squ
09:34 uint gives random passers by electric sh
09:35 sw0rdfish heh
09:35 sw0rdfish speaking of electricity
09:35 sw0rdfish I'm gonna go full screen with my electricity ebook now, cya guys.
09:35 Squint I like the screens on kindles, if that helps
09:35 tsmeow-afk needs to find a way to get Tom to do some lathe work for
09:35 Squint still not got one though
09:35 rue_house :( my friction isn't working
09:36 katsmeow-afk rue, it hasto be nonlinear friction
09:36 rue_house F = (x-Xm)*Ks;
09:36 rue_house A = F/M;
09:36 rue_house V += A*t;
09:36 rue_house Xm += V*t;
09:36 katsmeow-afk think hydraulic damper
09:36 rue_house can someone add some friction, to that for me, I need to go to work
09:37 effanx adds some fric
09:37 katsmeow-afk or nonlinear gain
09:37 rue_house I tried to subtract 2 from the force but that disn't work
09:38 katsmeow-afk -2 isn't non-linear, is it?
09:57 katsmeow-afk ...........
09:57 Steffanx Yes?
09:57 Squint mmmm .... friction ....
09:57 katsmeow-afk it got quiet in here
09:58 Steffanx You are back
09:58 katsmeow-afk you: There is no such nick or channel.
10:01 Steffanx is vs are
10:03 katsmeow-afk you is/am/are/be/being/been back?
10:06 katsmeow-afk "Californians don't pay tax on fresh fruit--unless, per chance, they buy their banana from a vending machine."
10:08 katsmeow-afk In Chicago, a soda served from a soda fountain is taxed 9 percent; the same soda drunk from a bottle or a can is taxed 3 percent
10:09 katsmeow-afk "In Durham, North Carolina, residents who own a cat or dog must pay tax, since the state considers pets to be personal property no different from, say, a TV or stereo - "though there would be a difference if a stereo or TV could be neutered. The tax on spayed or neutered pets is $10. But on animals intact, it is $75."
10:10 Steffanx And what's your point katsmeow-afk ?
10:10 Steffanx We live with the other stupid/weird/whatever people on a globe that;s too small?
10:10 katsmeow-afk just odd news reports
10:11 katsmeow-afk you weren't talking, i didn't want the electrons to go by unused
10:11 katsmeow-afk sorry to bother you
10:12 Steffanx Use all the electrons you need
10:28 Steffanx So anything else katsmeow-afk ? :)
10:30 katsmeow-afk According to the World Malaria Report 2011 malaria was responsible for killing an estimated 655,000 people in 2010
10:37 Tom_itx not in alaska
10:40 katsmeow-afk Alaska does have mosquiotes, however
10:41 katsmeow-afk one reason some birds hatch their eggs there is the mosquitoes fly to the chicks to suck their blood, and the chicks have a chance to eat the mosquitoes
10:42 katsmeow-afk While the legend is correct that mosquitoes can gather in ferocious swarms (the unofficial record of the most mosquitoes killed in a single swat is 78), the reality is that that kind of mosquito intensity occurs only in rare instances, such as on a perfectly windless evening near a stagnant pond, Interior forest, or moist tundra.
10:43 katsmeow-afk Alaska's mosquito population is the stuff of legend. There are 35 species of mosquitos in Alaska.
10:43 katsmeow-afk West Nile Virus:
10:43 katsmeow-afk Only two of the state's 35 species of mosquitos have been found to carry the virus in the Lower 48.
10:45 tsmeow-afk wanders
10:46 furrywolf only near stagnant ponds... that explains florida, I guess. :)
10:46 furrywolf blah, bbl, time for work already
16:12 DanFrederiksen general purpose motor controller would also be good for CNCs
16:12 DanFrederiksen of the servo kind of course
17:25 Tom_itx http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tA-W7nTNSc&feature=youtu.be
17:32 DanFrederiksen Tom_itx, does that mean you are warming to the idea?
17:34 Tom_itx no
17:35 Tom_itx http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=Nn1bJ3YAQdI
17:35 Tom_itx that one is located a couple miles from me
17:36 Tom_itx if you get bored move to ~3:45
17:57 DanFrederiksen I'm quite familiar with CNC machines. some cooler than that. I want them affordable however
17:58 DanFrederiksen which they could be. if people had a little vision
17:59 Tom_itx that was an EMC conversion machine
17:59 Tom_itx open source cnc
18:01 DanFrederiksen and what is the price of the system?
18:01 DanFrederiksen all together
18:01 Tom_itx what system?
18:01 Tom_itx emc is free
18:01 Tom_itx your hardware is up to you
18:02 Tom_itx supports up to 9 axis
18:02 Tom_itx servo or stepper
18:03 DanFrederiksen sounds like EMC is a start on the software side. but we need hardware too
18:04 Tom_itx mesa makes interface hardware
18:04 DanFrederiksen yousa? : )
18:05 DanFrederiksen is that jar jar talk?
18:05 Tom_itx http://www.mesanet.com/
18:06 Tom_itx most are using the 'anything io cards' with daughter cards based on their needs
18:06 Tom_itx they've got servo controllers as well
18:08 DanFrederiksen do they have all in one boards? usb interface for 4 servo motors
18:08 Tom_L yup
18:09 Tom_L not usb
18:09 DanFrederiksen :)
18:09 Tom_L usb isn't fast enough for realtime
18:09 DanFrederiksen tsk tsk tsk
18:09 Tom_L they have buss interface cards
18:09 Tom_L and parport
18:10 DanFrederiksen single board with power to control multiple servo axes and USB interface. USB is plenty fact to take G code
18:10 DanFrederiksen fast*
18:10 Tom_L nope
18:10 Tom_L not unless most of the processing is done on the target board
18:10 DanFrederiksen ahhh
18:10 Tom_L which it isn't with linuxcnc
18:11 Tom_L usb isn't realtime anyway
18:11 DanFrederiksen if you feed it G code it naturally has to do the handling
18:11 Tom_L they use the ubuntu rtai for their platform
18:11 DanFrederiksen and obviously you would want the controller to controller the servos. not realtime nonsense from a pc
18:12 DanFrederiksen that's how all serious CNC works
18:12 Tom_L that's what the mesa cards do
18:12 Tom_L that's what zhanx and i both have on ours
18:12 Tom_L right z?
18:13 DanFrederiksen Tom_L, you have a cnc?
18:13 Tom_L a small one
18:13 DanFrederiksen home made kind of converted manual mill
18:13 Tom_L i've programmed large ones
18:13 Tom_L sherline
18:13 Tom_L i use it to play
18:13 DanFrederiksen it also has play?
18:14 DanFrederiksen that seems to be the problem with conversions. the manual mills are very imprecise
18:16 Tom_L i'm not gonna plop down half mil for one so i can play
18:31 Tom_itx !thislog
18:31 tobbor This one: http://rueshouse.dyndns.org:82/~ircjunk/irclogs/html/%23robotics-2012-04-09.html
19:18 rue_house hmm
19:20 katsmeow-afk hmm
19:24 orlok figured out the pinouts for some grey encoders i pulled from a printer
19:24 rue_house COOL
19:24 rue_house can I see?
19:26 orlok eh, its just some sticky labels on some wire
19:27 orlok they actually emit visible light as well
19:27 orlok i wasnt expecting that
19:31 katsmeow-afk There are concerns about the safety of Railroad Park. It had to be shutdown for an hour Sunday after a fight broke out inside the park and shots were fired a few blocks away. Birmingham police say there is no cause for concern.
19:33 rue_house anyone have formulas for V(t) for an RLC circuit
19:33 Tom_itx it's Birmingham. what do you expect?
19:33 rue_house ?
19:33 Tom_itx i drove thru there a couple times and was advised not to stop for fuel there
19:35 katsmeow-afk i advise you to not stop in Bham for fuel too
19:36 Tom_itx well i didn't, but i did wave
19:36 katsmeow-afk i also suggest not stopping for fuel anywhere from Anniston to Georgia on I-20 especially at nite
19:37 Tom_itx i don't think i did that either
19:37 Tom_itx iirc i stopped before i got to Atlanta
19:37 katsmeow-afk at nite, only the main Leeds/Moody and main Pell City and main Anniston exits are safe
19:37 Tom_itx i came back thru Atlanta Sunday? night maybe and it was like a ghost town
19:37 katsmeow-afk all the otehr exits have had car jackings and shootings/dying since i have been in Alabama
19:41 Tom_itx rue_house is there something here for that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RLC_circuit
19:42 Tom_itx i bet there is
19:44 Tom_itx see, he left before he waited for an answer
19:45 Tom_itx a cardinal rule you don't break here
19:47 Tom_itx http://www.lautsprechershop.de/index_hifi_en.htm?http://www.lautsprechershop.de/tools/t_ps_schwingkreis_en.htm
19:47 Tom_itx there are other calculators there, maybe one would suit you
19:51 rue_house hmm
20:52 duckinator hi
22:25 katsmeow-afk {'response': true, 'message': 'Thanks. We will notify you.'}
23:06 rue_house yaya!
23:10 rue_house my motion filter works
23:10 rue_house I'm succesfully dragging a virtual mass on a spring with friction, just enough friction that its critically damped
23:41 tsmeow-afk is virtually impre
