00:05 rue_house I hink its to get around a shortcomming in the way they see edges
00:06 katsmeow-afk to get sterio vision vertically?
00:06 rue_house I dont think they can see edges in any direction
00:06 rue_house more specifically, I dont think they can easily see verticle edges
00:07 katsmeow-afk must be able to, most small scared mammals make for a tree instantly
00:07 rue_house do they tilt their head when they climb it!
00:07 katsmeow-afk but they found the vertical tree witout tilting their heads
00:08 rue_house I'm not saying they cant, I'm saying its not as good as other edges
00:19 codygo what's all this about edges

00:25 katsmeow-afk no
00:26 rue_house pls describe graphite oxide
00:26 katsmeow-afk charcoal?
00:27 rue_house oxide?
00:29 rue_house http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphite_oxide
00:29 rue_house aha
00:33 katsmeow-afk why are you studying that stuff?
00:35 rue_house ah, they are oxidizing the graphite, seperating the layers, applying it to a disk and using the laser to both cook it on and deoxidize it
00:36 katsmeow-afk Characterization of commercial capacitors: A commercially available activated carbon
00:36 katsmeow-afk electrochemical capacitor, PANASONIC EECS0HD223H Supercap 5.5 V, 22 mF was
00:36 katsmeow-afk used. It consists of two electrochemical capacitors connected in series. A single device
00:36 katsmeow-afk was separated from this serial assembly for characterization.

03:04 katsmeow-afk It should be very easy, the suspect is obviously unarmed.

09:11 rue_house not really my kinda think, but thanks kat
09:13 rue_house I didn't know you needed to use special nails for solar
09:14 katsmeow-afk you do?
09:15 katsmeow-afk you should use aluminum nails when nailing down aluminum frames, or so i hear
09:15 katsmeow-afk else the zinc on galvanised nails can eat away the aluminum
09:15 katsmeow-afk or so i hear
09:16 rue_house (I'm reffering to 'solar nails' in the image)
09:16 katsmeow-afk prolly more like the zinc plates off, and then the aluminum is eaten away by the plain steel
09:16 katsmeow-afk what image?

09:17 katsmeow-afk heh, i didn't ppay any attention to the stores there
09:17 katsmeow-afk btw, it is STILL raining there

09:54 tsmeow-afk gnaws on a hunk of dead
10:05 SolarNRG How long does it usually take to dry out a baking tray full of sand in an oven?
10:06 katsmeow-afk is it on?
10:06 SolarNRG Yeah
10:06 katsmeow-afk is it a nukebox or solar oven or what?
10:06 SolarNRG Just a househould electric oven
10:06 SolarNRG I thought 150 C was a good temp
10:06 SolarNRG I've got the oven open ajar with the grill plate on
10:07 SolarNRG So it can air
10:07 katsmeow-afk spread out evenly, how deep?
10:07 SolarNRG The sand is about an inch deep
10:07 katsmeow-afk could take a while, i'd either goto 300F or thinner sand
10:08 SolarNRG Crank it right up?
10:08 katsmeow-afk boil the sand out
10:09 SolarNRG Oven lid closed or open ajar?
10:09 katsmeow-afk open, you hant the water out of the oven, right?
10:09 tsmeow-afk is eatig with one
10:11 SolarNRG yeah
10:14 tsmeow-afk looks at Tom and s
10:14 sighs STOP looking At ME!!!!
10:14 katsmeow-afk ok then
10:16 katsmeow-afk ...
10:23 SolarNRG OK its at high temp
10:23 SolarNRG But the flat is like a sauna now
10:23 SolarNRG I've got all the windows open
10:23 SolarNRG Anything else I can do?
10:23 katsmeow-afk stir the sand in 15 minutes, then shut it off , but leave the sand in
10:24 katsmeow-afk a snart human might put the sand where the heat rising off the preheating smelter would also dry and preheat the sand
10:25 tsmeow-afk looks at Tom and
10:25 katsmeow-afk not gonna sigh again

13:20 Tom_itx http://www2.electronicproducts.com/Robots_set_swimming_record-article-fajb_swimming_robots_march2012-html.aspx
15:01 rizlah meh
15:01 rizlah I liked the swimming robot more
15:01 rizlah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RA8TjJfpe4Q
15:02 rizlah That's the kind of robotics I want to get into
16:19 katsmeow-afk "Is a single-core CPU enough for your Windows Phone? Or did Nokia’s CEO just put a foot in his mouth?" ,, i remember when the most complex part of an electronic phone was the DTMF chip, forget about cpus, memory, camera, display controller, internet access, and operating systems
16:21 tsmeow-afk remembers when "AT&T" stood for "Atlantic Telephone and Telegraph" ,, and you cannot get a telegraph line
16:21 ace4016 they still maintain some telegraph lines though
16:21 ace4016 they just won't set you up with a new one :P
16:22 katsmeow-afk they call them "dead lines" now too, at least here
16:23 katsmeow-afk and cannot get them after they "upgraded" substations to use digital trunks to the "central station"
16:24 katsmeow-afk they were also called "alarm signal lines" once
16:25 ace4016 also, todays phones are more portable computers that happen to have a phone functionality
16:26 tsmeow-afk nods ,, sad that to make a call you need a pricey fancy handheld computer with a pricey monthly data
16:28 katsmeow-afk "i want to make a call to pizza hut to get a pizza on my way out of town" "that will be $600 for the phone, $100/month to use it, plus taxes, misc fees, and needed accessories" "nevermind, i'll just wait 20 minutes while they make it"
16:28 ace4016 they still make standard cell phones with none of the fancy stuff apart from the ability to do MMS and maybe some web ability
16:28 ace4016 they just market the hell out of the smartphones
16:29 katsmeow-afk my phone has a button for doing things during a normal call, like loudspeaker toggling, but if touched otherwise it tries to access online stores with the pricey digital plan
16:30 katsmeow-afk so once i hangup, i lock the keypad immeadiately
16:32 ace4016 what I find more ridiculous is that you can get a cell phone for cheaper than you can get a landline that can call more than local, where local is loosely defined by the phone company (10 mile radius for instance...when the nearest business is 11 :P )
16:33 katsmeow-afk i agree, for me to landline call the next exit on the interstate, even tho i can see the lights there from here at nite, is long distance
16:34 ace4016 it's crazy that they can honestly charge around $35-$45 for a landline
16:35 ace4016 and the VoIP phones are really BS with their pricing. Same price, maybe $5 less to do what most VoIP serves do for dramatically less
16:35 e4016 hates busi
16:35 katsmeow-afk for many years, they charged the landline on top of dsl, even if they blocked all incoming calls and blocked all outgoing except 911
16:36 ace4016 yea; at least now you can have DSL without a landline
16:36 ace4016 not that it's much
16:36 ace4016 alarm companies got smart and they have systems that connect to the cellphone towers now because less and less people are getting landphones
16:37 ace4016 but of course they advertise it as "now your landline won't get cut, completely disabling our system!"
16:38 katsmeow-afk wireless dsl is like $10/mo more than hardline dsl, but winxp will not reconnect to the modem unless it's in unsecure mode, so when (not if) it drops, i haveto not only click a lot of icons, i haveto also unplug the modem and put it in a diff usb port so the previous port can time out
16:39 ace4016 can't imagine home alarm systems are very useful in most areas...thieves take 5 minutes in and out, cops take 10-15 to get there; trail is 5-10mins cold
16:39 ace4016 you can get far in 5-10 minutes
16:39 katsmeow-afk but the cops can carry the dead bodies away before you get home
16:40 katsmeow-afk <cough>
16:40 ace4016 heh
16:41 katsmeow-afk i agree tho, sometimes the alarm sign tells people you have something worth protecting, and all they need to do is be quick about getting it out
16:42 ace4016 indeed; it's not worth it to carry the things most people have now a days anyways (large screen tvs get heavy adn make you slow and obvious)
16:42 ace4016 grab the cash, laptops, ipads, etc. and run out
16:42 katsmeow-afk believe it or not, that doesn't matter to some
16:42 ace4016 most people can do that in less than 3
16:43 katsmeow-afk one guy reported a neighbor's house was broken into and the guy was carrying out a large tv, they sent a cop, the guy killed the cop and took his cruiser and drove home in style
16:44 ace4016 yea, that increase his chance of getting caught; which he did...he just took care of the cop in turn
16:44 ace4016 apparently most thieves aren't armed
16:44 katsmeow-afk only way they convicted him was the eyewitness, he'd have been set free if all they had was an alarm system
16:45 katsmeow-afk this guy was bigger than zhanx tho, he physically began disassembling the cop
16:45 katsmeow-afk no guns or knives
16:45 ace4016 ye; i don't consider alarm systems useful without cameras; because more than likely, the crook will get away; it's what happens after that kind of matters
16:45 ace4016 ouch
16:45 katsmeow-afk this was a giveaway in his identificaton too, if he'd been smaller and more common, the plan may have worked
16:46 ace4016 excpet he'd have to have a weapon if he was normal size
16:46 ace4016 d
16:47 katsmeow-afk yeas, which would have sped things up some
16:47 ace4016 hehe
16:47 katsmeow-afk disassembling the body while alive takes longer than causing a fatal malfunction in it
16:47 e4016 ddesigns an active sentry bot to guard the h
16:49 katsmeow-afk oddlly, there is nothing you can do to a burglar that's legal, unless he attacks you first
16:50 katsmeow-afk if someone walks in with a gun and starts taking stuff, you pretty much haveto let them as long as they are polite
16:50 ace4016 can we say the robot was defending itself?
16:50 katsmeow-afk i wish
16:50 ace4016 lol
16:51 katsmeow-afk i *think* if they appear to maybe be intent on causing damage to a pet, you can defend the pet
16:51 katsmeow-afk i know you can defend the pet if it's outside
16:51 ace4016 if the house is the robot, and it is, legally, able to defend itself, then entering the house against its will will trigger its defenses
16:52 katsmeow-afk prolem is getting it ok to legally do anything
16:52 katsmeow-afk afaik, no robot is allowed by any law to impose it's will on a human or a human's properties
16:53 katsmeow-afk "but judge, my robot did not use a gun to kill the burglar, she inserted the bullets into the burglar manually"
16:54 ace4016 aye; that's the only issue; although if a company or set of companies that had vestments in such a security system, i bet the law would change quickly
16:54 ace4016 because comapnies are people too, and have more power than actual people
16:55 katsmeow-afk true :-/
16:55 katsmeow-afk more $$$$
16:55 ace4016 a company can be people but robots can't
16:55 katsmeow-afk and time
16:55 ace4016 what a shame
16:55 katsmeow-afk cases been won where the person died and the company won by default of still existing
17:01 ace4016 i thought the system would allow someone to represent teh dead individual
17:01 katsmeow-afk i think it depends on how the case is filed, and what the interest is
17:02 katsmeow-afk for instance, a nusance case would be dismissed, afaik
17:03 katsmeow-afk if there was loss involved, the loss may or may not involve the dead person's estate
17:05 ace4016 hm
17:13 SolarNRG I am very excited about getting my microwavable aluminium smelting crucible tomorrow. I have pre-baked the sand and the clay mold today in preparation for its arrival. Please have a look and tell me if you think pouring molten ally into the square groove will work,, thanks: http://i.imgur.com/fyY3J.jpg
17:15 katsmeow-afk umm, don't let the prebaked sand absorb any moisture from the air, or you wasted time drying it
17:15 SolarNRG How do I prevent this?
17:16 katsmeow-afk containerise it, airtightly
17:16 katsmeow-afk plastic bucket with top, plastic bag, etc
17:16 SolarNRG Will it absorb water overnight?
17:16 SolarNRG Shall I put it in the airing cupboard?
17:17 katsmeow-afk airing cupboard? to give it more air to extract moisture from?
17:18 katsmeow-afk the danger is the sand is twofold: any moisture can explode into steam when you pour molten metals onto it, and any organic material in it can contribute to it not holding shape
17:18 katsmeow-afk you should be able to figure out what to do about it
17:20 SolarNRG Ouch
17:20 SolarNRG The sand is there in case I spill any
17:20 SolarNRG The clay is the cast
17:21 katsmeow-afk dehydrate the clay too
17:24 SolarNRG the clay has been baked
17:24 SolarNRG is this good enough??
17:24 SolarNRG it STANK in the kitchen
17:25 katsmeow-afk i dunno if it's good enough, you can always buy a humidity tester, they make them for soils
17:26 katsmeow-afk test in many places, stirr, and retest in many places
17:26 SolarNRG Well the clay went pop a few times in the oven about 1.5 hours in
17:26 katsmeow-afk tis isn't a channel about pouring molten metals, you should check into one if you haven't figured out the answers yet
17:27 SolarNRG But from 1.5 to 4 hours no more popping
17:27 SolarNRG So I guess that's all the water and air come out
17:27 katsmeow-afk popping clay is a definite sign it was wet
17:27 SolarNRG I know I took it out the packet this morning
17:27 SolarNRG It went in the oven at noon the oven went off at 4
17:27 SolarNRG I let it cool in the oven
19:19 ^robertj hey all, anyone done their own sprinker controller? I'm gonna be totally reseeding my yard and was thinking about a DIY irrigation system while i was at it
19:25 rue_house ^robertj,
19:25 rue_house yes
19:26 rue_house I used washing machine valves, an avr, and cron
19:27 ^robertj what's special about laundry machine valves?
19:27 rue_house they convert electricity to water
19:27 orlok washing machines are common?
19:28 ^robertj fair enough
19:28 orlok more people have them than automated sprinkler systems?
19:28 rue_house dishwasher valves work too
19:28 rue_house oh damn, I have 5 days left for my truck insurance
19:29 ^robertj did you scavenge the valves or buy them new?
19:29 rue_house scavanged
19:29 rue_house I think new, they are worth more than washing machines
19:30 orlok hmm cant wait to be able to work on that sort of stuff
19:31 orlok looking at another 12 months or more, then we should have enough for a deposit
19:31 rue_house I need to finish collecting the valves for the mecha
19:31 orlok i have never had this much cash in my life
19:31 orlok or been so busy. or tired
19:31 orlok i went to sleep at 9pm last night!
19:31 orlok and woke up at 4:30am
19:31 ^robertj you saving for a home?
19:31 orlok yup
19:32 orlok i should buy one in the USA hahaha
19:32 ^robertj it's not all bad over here :)
19:32 orlok i shoukd be able to buy one for the price of a deposit in Australia
19:32 ^robertj orlok, I had a friend who bought in Florida for that reason
19:32 orlok i didnt see the "in" at first
19:33 orlok thought "Hmm, must be well off.."
19:33 ^robertj he didn't really want to live there but it was so cheap he couldn't turn it down
19:34 orlok i think automated watering systems may currently be banned here though
19:34 orlok but possibly not if you use tank water
19:34 ^robertj orlok, it varies by year here depending on water conditions
19:34 ^robertj one of my neighbors has a well i could probably buy water from though
19:34 ^robertj and that's exempt
19:34 orlok yeah, same here. we either have decade long droughts, or month long floods it seems
19:36 orlok Heh, filming of Mad Max 4 had to be moved overseas
19:37 orlok cos of the flooding and rain, the area of australia they were going to film in got toogren
19:37 ^robertj that's so wrong
19:37 ^robertj is Mel Gibson in it?
19:38 Tom_itx so rue_house if you're gonna wreck your truck do in the next 5 days
19:38 orlok nope
19:38 orlok no mel
19:39 Tom_itx that's probably a good thing
19:39 orlok yeah, except that his character is sorta the basis for the movies
19:39 orlok being "Max" and all
19:40 Tom_itx orlok you lookin for a place for all your cash i bet i can help you out
19:40 Tom_itx provided your daughter doesn't spend it all first
19:41 Tom_itx what about tina turner?
19:42 orlok .. who cares?
19:42 orlok i like to pretend #3 didnt exist
19:55 ^robertj rue_house, which AVR you use?
20:04 Tom_itx mega32
20:13 Tom_itx thing about washing machine valves for sprinklers is sprinklers take in sand that plugs up the valves
20:13 Tom_itx especially if it's sourced from a well
20:18 ^robertj valves are cheap online
20:19 ^robertj $6-$20 depending
20:20 Tom_itx gonna implement a RTC for it?
20:20 Tom_itx i think mine is a 9 station one but only use 4 or 5
20:21 Tom_itx @25gpm to the heads
20:21 Tom_itx thru a 1" pipe
20:22 Tom_itx figure your stations based on the output you can get from your source
20:22 Tom_itx overlap them for full coverage
20:22 ^robertj RTC?
20:22 Tom_itx real time clock
20:23 Tom_itx i used hunter and rainbird on mine
20:23 ^robertj oh something fancy but not ummm, "real time" :P
20:23 ^robertj the software side of me says real-time is for nuclear reactors :P
20:24 ^robertj soft-time is OK for anything from pacemaker on down :)
20:24 Tom_itx if you have a rtc though you can run it while you sleep and know when it's to come on
20:25 ^robertj yeah, it will have a timer of some kind
20:25 ^robertj but real-time in the software world typically means way-sub-ms accuracy :P
20:25 ^robertj and err, i'd be ok with second-level accuracy :P
20:27 ^robertj looks like for the brunt of the watering there is gonna need to be a valve at each nozel
20:27 orlok do nuclear reactors really need that level of "real time"? i mean, aint they glorified pressure cookers?
20:27 ^robertj orlok, probably not, but anyhoo the deal is you want to gauruntee your op won't be rescheduled indefinately and never run
20:28 lok is using microsecond ti
20:28 orlok trying to track the earths rotation as smoothly as possible
20:29 ^robertj I have like zero understanding of physics, but i'm thinking if i have 50psi or so, and you split that among anything mroe than 2 heads your gonna get measly throw
20:32 Tom_itx volume
20:32 Tom_itx that's why you use a 1" pipe
20:32 ^robertj not 3/4?
20:32 Tom_itx or more if it's a commercial system
20:32 Tom_itx if you want a measly throw
20:32 ^robertj i geuss more inches = more pounds per inches
20:33 ^robertj err total pounds
20:33 Tom_itx nope
20:33 Tom_itx volume
20:33 ^robertj err yeah i'm getting it now though
20:34 Tom_itx what's the volume of a 3/4" circle?
20:34 Tom_itx and of a 1" circle?
20:34 Tom_itx area...
20:35 ^robertj I was thinking for one thing if I designed it for a 3/4" i could just use the outside faucet :)
20:37 Tom_itx .44 sq in for 3/4, .78 sq in for 1"
20:37 Tom_itx 1/4" gets you alot
20:39 ^robertj how does that affect the max distance though? it seems like you could get a nozel with a very smaller opening and water longer?
20:40 ^robertj but obviously at some point thats just not gonna work
20:40 Tom_itx if you're using a well, it will run much less
20:40 Tom_itx and deliver the same volume of water
20:40 ^robertj yes, but suppose i'm lazy and stick with city water
20:41 Tom_itx mkay
20:41 Tom_itx you're not making a very efficient system then
20:41 Tom_itx well is cheaper to run than processed city water
20:42 ^robertj indeed, but honestly i probably won't be getting my money out of it anyway :P
20:44 ^robertj but maybe i should just do it properly and put in 1"
20:44 ^robertj guess i could be lazy and have the plumber do the backflow preventer too
20:45 Tom_itx that's taking the DIY out of the equasion then isn't it?
20:46 ^robertj yeah for that part, it would be
20:49 Tom_itx my inlaw runs his off city and has a separate meter just for that
20:58 tsmeow-afk would check radar and vary the watering so it's not on when the yard is underwater during the fl
20:58 m_itx
20:59 katsmeow-afk pipe is a resistor, pressure is voltage
20:59 katsmeow-afk bigger pipes = lower resistance and less pressure drop
21:01 katsmeow-afk smaller nozzels prolly vaporise more water, big bore just dumps it on the yard where the grass is gonna use it
21:02 ^robertj hrmm, any rules of thumb on how big that pressure drop is gonna be?
21:02 katsmeow-afk i know a water sprinkler with 1200psi behid it, the water never hits the ground, it all evaporates first
21:03 ^robertj wow what's that used for?
21:03 katsmeow-afk pressure washer
21:03 ^robertj cooling crowds/
21:03 ^robertj :P
21:03 katsmeow-afk cooling too, i hear Denver put then all over the place
21:04 katsmeow-afk or was it Las Vegas,, i dunno
21:04 ^robertj las vaegas would seem to make more sense :)
21:04 ^robertj unless denver is trying to make snow
21:05 katsmeow-afk bigger problem everyone ignores is the ground slope, so when the water is turned off, the 40 gallons in the pipe all rund tot he downhill sprinkler and waterlogs the yard there, increasing mold and root fungus problems
21:06 katsmeow-afk whatcha do is pipe up a run with the sprinklers you wanna use, and lay them out on top of the ground, see how it behaves
21:06 katsmeow-afk tons easier to change before you bury it
21:07 katsmeow-afk i knew someone in Bham with a sprinkler, city laws mandated separate meter, it cost too much to run them
21:08 katsmeow-afk pricey sprinkler system and installaton, same dead grass
21:08 ^robertj the thing that got me looking is im actually reseeding and the yards gonna be all dead anyway
21:09 ^robertj putting down pretty much the least-thirsty grass that is suitable to my area
21:09 katsmeow-afk kept running over the heads with his mower because of the sand, he didn't filter the water, the heads jambed in the upright position
21:10 ^robertj poor guy
21:10 katsmeow-afk i'd just use robots to put portable sprinklers out there at night, so they are done watering by morning
21:11 katsmeow-afk you can use the same portable in different places each nite, save a ton of money over an installed system
21:11 ^robertj recharching quadcopter + garden pale?
21:11 katsmeow-afk pail
21:11 Tom_itx water is heavy
21:11 katsmeow-afk 5 gallon bucket is ~60lbs, have fun witht he copter
21:12 katsmeow-afk portable sprinkler = one hose, one sprinkler, one valve , cannot beat that on price
21:12 katsmeow-afk you need the robot anyhow, right? you use it in daytime, it waters your yard at nite, i see no problems
21:13 ^robertj would be pretty slick if it was integrated into a mowing bot
21:13 ^robertj especailly becaus ethat way it could probably figure out how not to run over your hose :P
21:13 katsmeow-afk Tom could use his snow removeal bot for this, if he needed a lawn waterer
21:13 katsmeow-afk cannot run over the hose if it moves in a str8 line
21:14 katsmeow-afk the hose reel can pull the sprinkler back in off the yard as the sun comes up, Tom can make you one that does
21:14 katsmeow-afk rue can make mowerbots
21:15 katsmeow-afk hmm, Tiggr's puters are caving in the shelf they are on, i need lighter puters, or something
21:17 ^robertj hrmm, differnece between .75" and 1" pipe @ 300ft seems to be 28psi lost vs 6 psi lost
21:18 katsmeow-afk makes a big diff, like Tom advised you
21:19 katsmeow-afk you running 300ft of sprinkler??
21:19 ^robertj yeah could be that much
21:19 ^robertj probably not quite but ballparkish
21:19 katsmeow-afk in one single pipe run tho?? wow
21:20 katsmeow-afk that's going to be a lot of water at once
21:20 ^robertj well id figure it basically would be like 6 horizontal trunks off the main manifold
21:20 ^robertj waht do you mean at once?
21:21 katsmeow-afk that's like 15 heads in a 300ft line, just sounds like a lot to put on a 1" pipe
21:21 Tom_itx sprinkler catalogs tell you the volume each head uses at given pressure
21:21 ^robertj yeah but youd only have like 1 or 2 heads active at a time
21:21 Tom_itx use that information to plan your stations
21:21 Tom_itx depending on the style, i have 6 to 8 or so
21:21 katsmeow-afk only one or two? then yo can prolly use 3/4 pipe
21:22 katsmeow-afk run the numbers, see
21:23 katsmeow-afk Tiggr is seriously bogging down my connection
21:23 ^robertj most of the DIY designs on the internet have all the control valves right at the beginning of the system
21:24 ^robertj it befuddles me how you can have decent psi off even just a few sprinklres on a given zone
21:25 ^robertj and wouldn't there be a huge difference between the first sprinkelr in a zone and hte last
21:25 katsmeow-afk most DIY are not professionals, and they don't care to much how your system performs
21:27 Tom_itx not if you plan it right
21:28 ^robertj what do they do, use a smaller tube in the ones nearer the beginning of the zone?
21:28 katsmeow-afk but what you said about "only one or two on at a time",, if you size so that runs fine at the farthest zone, you will be fine on the closer zones
21:29 ^robertj no but within the same zone
21:29 katsmeow-afk oh, change nozzles to deliver more or less water
21:29 katsmeow-afk use valves
21:30 Tom_itx the heads i got came with a dozen different size nozzles
21:30 katsmeow-afk water valves, not brit radio vac tubes
21:32 katsmeow-afk nukebox dinged!
21:33 Tom_itx better answer that call
21:33 katsmeow-afk did
21:34 katsmeow-afk why can't i buy tartar sauce, ready to use, in a grocery store?
21:34 Tom_itx go to the fast food place and get some
21:34 Tom_itx they pack it in handly little squirt packs for you too
21:34 Tom_itx umm actually i think you can
21:35 katsmeow-afk but they don't sell it by itself
21:35 Tom_itx iirc there's a squirt bottle in the fridge
21:35 katsmeow-afk not in my fridge
21:35 Tom_itx :(
21:36 tsmeow-afk ponder putting tartar on food, then going to the dentist to get tartar rem
21:37 Tom_itx don't get your tartar from him
21:38 katsmeow-afk i wonder why i hae never ever seen it, but Walmart says they have 18 different versions of it: http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_query=tartar+sauce&ic=16_0&Find=Find&search_constraint=0
21:38 zhanx they do
21:39 katsmeow-afk hmm, the webpage also says "not carried in your store"
21:40 zhanx weird, all are supposedly carried in my store
21:40 zhanx wait
21:40 zhanx i still have washington as my location
21:41 tsmeow-afk checks 5 more select
21:41 Tom_itx http://www.walmart.com/ip/Original-Tartar-Sauce/14647660
21:41 Tom_itx i think that may be the one
21:41 Tom_itx that or this http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hellmann-39-s-Easy-Out-Tartar-Sauce-9-oz/15556187
21:42 ^robertj hrmm you can get .75 in-line valves for $8 in a 5-pak on ebay
21:42 katsmeow-afk url?
21:42 ^robertj http://www.ebay.com/itm/5pk-CP-075-Rainbird-Valves-3-4-Female-thread-in-line-Sprinkler-Irrigation-Valve-/260966342029?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc2ce5d8d
21:42 Tom_itx kat, zip?
21:43 katsmeow-afk ok, they have the Kraft, mccormic, and heinz, none of the better brands
21:43 katsmeow-afk i checked Tom
21:43 Tom_itx mkay
21:43 katsmeow-afk if i want the good stuff, can order online, at leeast shipping to the store is free
21:44 Tom_itx i guess i eat the crap
21:44 katsmeow-afk i eat cheap crap food, i need some taste to cover it up
21:44 ^robertj http://homegardenoutdoors.com/product/68309_Rain-Bird-3-4-Inch-Sprinkler-System-Automatic-In-Line-Valve-CP075.html <- $7.59
21:44 katsmeow-afk i see Kraft i think mayo, McCormic = spises, and Heinz = catsup
21:45 Tom_itx i see kraft and i see cheap mac n cheese
21:45 katsmeow-afk my bogottry says the McCormic might be good, and i'd try it first before i ordered the others online
21:45 ^robertj so one of those between the manifold and each sprinkler head, one sprinkler active at the time
21:46 katsmeow-afk only one sprinkler ata time? how long will you run each head before changeing to the next one?
21:47 ^robertj dunno, but i wouldnt think i would run out of hours in the day
21:47 Tom_itx i don't see the point of the project at one sprinkler at a time
21:48 katsmeow-afk my place here is so tilty, i know i cannot run a sprinkler more than about a minute before i get runoff
21:48 ^robertj Tom_itx, what's not practical about it?
21:48 katsmeow-afk but, i can run more than one as long as they don't hit the same place
21:48 katsmeow-afk because one valve per head is pricey and overly complicated
21:48 Tom_itx mine are on 10 min cycle times and if it's dry they get cycled more
21:49 orlok katsmeow-afk: how is the new place going?
21:49 ^robertj but you save on cheaper pipe and install
21:49 katsmeow-afk orlok, i am back in Alaforkingbama, i thought i told you
21:49 katsmeow-afk how is running more wire, more control channels, and more pipe saving you anything at all?
21:50 orlok katsmeow-afk: Oh.. no..
21:50 ^robertj why is it more pipe?
21:50 katsmeow-afk because you need one run to each head, unless you're running wire out to a valve on each head out in the field??!
21:51 tsmeow-afk is against buring valves, due to maintenace costs and
21:51 katsmeow-afk burying
21:52 katsmeow-afk and wire corrodes, pvc pipe doesn't
21:53 ^robertj anyway, it's night time, i'll sleep on it, thx for the discussion
21:53 katsmeow-afk btw, how is http://www.ebay.com/itm/5pk-CP-075-Rainbird-Valves-3-4-Female-thread-in-line-Sprinkler-Irrigation-Valve-/260966342029?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc2ce5d8d <<== <^robertj> hrmm you can get .75 in-line valves for $8 in a 5-pak on ebay
21:53 katsmeow-afk looks like it's $47.50 to me
21:55 tsmeow-afk throttles Tiggr down to 640k for a while, gotta teach her to share wit
21:56 katsmeow-afk does anyone else see that url of a 5-pack for $8 ?
21:56 katsmeow-afk err, $8 EACH , i see
21:57 katsmeow-afk $8 for 5 would have been a good deal
21:57 katsmeow-afk lower my greywater system to 5psi and forget tiney clogged nozzels, just use big valves and pipes
21:59 katsmeow-afk i can gravity feed and forget about powering the pump to reach 50psi
21:59 rue_house endoskelaton
22:00 katsmeow-afk with plastic control valves?
22:02 katsmeow-afk umm, those valves may not be motor types, they may be plunger types
22:02 katsmeow-afk motor types operate with any psi
22:04 rue_house hu?
22:04 rue_house the washing machine valves are plunger,
22:04 rue_house thats why I pulse them
22:04 tsmeow-afk
22:05 katsmeow-afk the plunger opens a tiney orfice, which cause water pressur imbalace that then opens the main valve , i wanna be able to vary the opening all the way to *wide* open, like a motorised ball valve
22:11 rue_house mmm
22:12 katsmeow-afk cool, for the cost of the water bill, i can pump free water for 6 days, which is around 95,000 gallons, which costs tons more than $20
22:13 rue_house ?
22:13 katsmeow-afk doing this 10 yrs ao would have saves me $2500
22:14 rue_house where can I get stell balls about 1" dia?
22:14 katsmeow-afk ebay, ball bearings
22:14 katsmeow-afk or, fnd out who repairs blowers for mines and cement plants up your way,, like that gold mine north of you
22:15 katsmeow-afk i has a small pile of 3/4 steel balls from dead bearings
22:15 katsmeow-afk no clue what to do with them
22:15 katsmeow-afk why you need them?
22:16 rue_house ball joints for a model
22:16 katsmeow-afk how will you fasten anyting to them?
22:16 rue_house weld a bolt off the side, and capture it between two plates with holes in them the ball cant fit thru
22:17 katsmeow-afk can't weld to them, they tend to explode unless you de-temper them with heat first
22:17 rue_house http://www.gundam-shizuoka.jp/
22:17 katsmeow-afk check out small trailer hitches, 1 & 7/8
22:18 rue_house did I link to that before?
22:18 rue_house 1" traler hitch?
22:18 katsmeow-afk no
22:18 katsmeow-afk no 1" hitches,, there are the 1 7/8 tho
22:19 katsmeow-afk already got bolts on them, and you can use the trailer part as the arm portion
22:20 katsmeow-afk http://www.gundam-shizuoka.jp/ is anime stuff
22:20 katsmeow-afk mostly cgi stuff
22:20 rue_house I think the big one is real tho
22:20 rue_house saw images from a different site a long time ago
22:21 katsmeow-afk first line on the site translates roughly as :
22:21 katsmeow-afk Gundam (GUNDAM), the weapons of three fictional trilogy for the theater has been produced anime "Mobile Suit Gundam" anime TV, and based on this.
22:21 rue_house yea my point was I think that really large one in the image is real
22:21 rue_house (1:1 model)
22:21 katsmeow-afk yeas, as a statue
22:22 rue_house I had a good hand a while ago, I cant find it now
22:22 katsmeow-afk 2009, as part of the GREEN TOKYO broadcast commemorating the 30th anniversary of Gundam and Gundam project, the sea breeze park Odaiba Tokyo as the world's first Gundam statue will be 1/1 model (full scale) RX-78-2 Gundam Ver official name ( . will be "built" is G30th), was opened to the public in 52 days of August 31, from 11 July the same year.
22:23 rue_house cool
22:23 katsmeow-afk it's already taken down and moved
22:24 katsmeow-afk designed to be portable in commercial shipping containers
22:26 katsmeow-afk i should goto store, else i'll run out of food in a few days while http://classic.wunderground.com/US/Region/US/2xRadar.html?MR=1 is sitting on top of me
22:26 katsmeow-afk might take 3 days to move off, it's been a slow mover all week, since Tom had it
22:29 katsmeow-afk hmm, 3w cool white led on heatsinks for $1.30 each
22:29 rue_house http://robosavvy.com/Builders/Ray/IMG_0240.JPG

22:29 rue_house ^^ not into exoskelaton
22:30 rue_house http://zedomax.com/blog/2007/12/30/diy-robotic-hand/ <-- might be mechanically educatonal to build one
22:30 rue_house http://www.makeclub.org/ideas/items/view/19127 <-- wow
22:30 rue_house take a peek at all the lines at the wrist
22:30 katsmeow-afk one tendon per finger,, can we get a vote on if that's good, vs one tendon per finger joint?
22:31 rue_house http://spectrum.ieee.org/automaton/robotics/humanoids/dlr-super-robust-robot-hand
22:31 rue_house heheh
22:32 katsmeow-afk http://www.makeclub.org/ideas/items/view/19127 looks nice, but i cannot get tendons strong enough intot hat design to lift a car battery, forget about the robot lifting itself
22:33 rue_house see why I'm reducing the finger count to 3 digits?
22:33 katsmeow-afk i knew why
22:33 rue_house oh
22:34 katsmeow-afk yo seen the one with a thumb and 3 fingers? the "lil"f inger can swivel to be a 2nd thumb
22:34 rue_house hmm
22:37 rue_house http://spectrum.ieee.org/image/1775802
22:37 rue_house it was built with a reference to biology tho
22:38 katsmeow-afk http://spectrum.ieee.org/image/1775802 same as http://spectrum.ieee.org/automaton/robotics/humanoids/dlr-super-robust-robot-hand
22:39 rue_house yea
22:39 rue_house its a more detailed link
22:39 rue_house oh
22:40 rue_house http://gizmodo.com/artificial-hand/ that looks like a later rev
22:45 home d
22:46 katsmeow-afk i don't wanna goto store, i need to, bbl
23:03 rue_house kat, are those fingers using spring return?
