00:00 delinquentme sex it up a bit and let me wear it more as a suite
00:00 delinquentme suit** hell yeah ill sport that!
00:00 katsmeow-afk battery life = 10 minutes?
00:08 delinquentme katsmeow-afk, havnt you ever seen evangelion?
00:08 delinquentme 10 minutes is AWESOME
00:08 katsmeow-afk no
00:08 delinquentme those bots got like 60 seconds!
00:08 delinquentme ( its an anime ) :P
00:08 delinquentme WIAFFNT
00:58 rue_house I screrewed up my rice and now I dont know how long supper is going to take
00:59 rue_house if I'm smart I'll start new rice now
00:59 rue_house damnit
01:30 sinbad22 has anyone used the xsens IMU before?
01:38 katsmeow-afk remember how to cook rice the kat-way, rue?
01:39 katsmeow-afk sinbad22, no, but sounds interesting
01:39 katsmeow-afk rue could use it in his sub
01:40 katsmeow-afk i am assuming it is still accurate if it loses gps?
01:42 pigpenguin so reading up on v-belts some where said their optimal speed was 1000 - 7000 feet per minute... what happens if you do not run at optimal
01:43 katsmeow-afk the hp rating goes down
01:43 katsmeow-afk if you run too fast on small sheaves, the belts will lift, and lose grip
01:43 pigpenguin what if you run too slow
01:43 katsmeow-afk thinner belts help tho, suc as serpinte belts instead of deep V belts
01:44 katsmeow-afk too slow you just run out of the hp, bases on rpm x torque / etc formulas
01:44 katsmeow-afk my brain is off, it's after midnite, but i can stilltypo the basics :-)
01:45 katsmeow-afk the xsens IMU is $10k ?? ouch!
01:46 katsmeow-afk i am sure there are cheaper inertial guidance systems, such as used on hobby helichoppers
01:50 rue_house I'm broken cause our medical system is incompitent
01:51 katsmeow-afk what is the broken, approximately?
01:51 rue_house nerve problem in the back thats caused a problem in my knee
01:52 katsmeow-afk ouch
01:52 rue_house or this kneee thing is unrealted
01:52 tsmeow-afk dcc's rue her spare back b
01:52 rue_house knees dont like lack of motors control that keep throwing legs against the stops
01:52 rue_house my back dosn't even hurt right now
01:53 katsmeow-afk like trying to bend the kneee backwards? that can cause it to make pain all it's own
01:54 sinbad22 I never purchased the IMU. My uni did. When the IMU takes a sample, it sends out a signal from one of its pins. This allows for synchronisation between other devices that also sample their sensors. Even though I used xsens' software, I still could not get the pin to send that signal. When I use the oscilloscope I just see noise.
01:54 katsmeow-afk noise? not RS232?
01:54 rue_house huh, I never thought about the effect of posiitve feedback on a force feedback system
01:55 sinbad22 Im putting the osilloscope probe directly on the xsens pin.
01:55 katsmeow-afk rue, it's called "latched to the rails" or possibly "oscillation"
01:56 katsmeow-afk got the probe gnd on gnd on the xsens?
01:56 sinbad22 yes
01:56 katsmeow-afk k
01:56 rue_house does the xsense use the same gnd as the gnd?
01:56 sinbad22 ?
01:57 katsmeow-afk do you get a clean signal when you touch the probe tot he test signal the scope provides?
01:57 iR0b0t1 When in doubt tie your grounds together.
01:57 rue_house sorry I'm asleep
01:57 e_house gets a LOT of st
01:57 katsmeow-afk string?
01:57 e_house looks at kat and thinks about offering her string, but decides he's gonna need it
01:57 sinbad22 I never tested that. I have tested other things that day and the scope provided predictable reseults
01:57 rue_house I have to tie my grounds togethor
01:58 iR0b0t1 ._.
01:58 sinbad22 I think the scope is accurate
01:58 katsmeow-afk ok
01:58 katsmeow-afk i've has all sorts of equipment go bad before
01:58 sinbad22 ground is a relative concept
01:58 sinbad22 any other ideas?
01:58 katsmeow-afk you are correct that you should not see noise, you should see dc or a rs232 signal
01:59 sinbad22 I will post a picture to show you
01:59 katsmeow-afk well, i figure you got the vcc-gnd right, no one zapped it with static, etc
01:59 sinbad22 I dont have the equipment with me but I will show you a pic I took yesterday
02:01 sinbad22 will be 5 mins to upload
02:01 katsmeow-afk ouch
02:01 sinbad22 I live in australia
02:02 sinbad22 The entire country has slow internet
02:02 katsmeow-afk several peples from this channel are in Oz, and do fast uploads
02:02 sinbad22 ok I exagurated
02:02 sinbad22 and I know I cant spell that word
02:02 moriarty sinbad22, great firewall slowing you down a tad?
02:02 sinbad22 :)
02:02 sinbad22 I dont have a firewall
02:02 sinbad22 but I do have a router
02:03 sinbad22 and I know that has one built it
02:03 sinbad22 in
02:03 sinbad22 so I guess i do have a firewall :)
02:03 moriarty sure but the country has one :)
02:03 sinbad22 I thought that was only China
02:04 katsmeow-afk no, the usa has pushed the Aussy gov to put up a similar firewall
02:04 sinbad22 I bet we gave in
02:04 moriarty well if you consider Australia as the 3rd SAR of China...
02:04 katsmeow-afk they been trying to do it to usa-ians too, but that boke down a cople months ago
02:04 pigpenguin it will come back though
02:05 katsmeow-afk no doubt
02:05 moriarty it's a lot easier than extraditing Kim Dotcom-esque personalities
02:06 sinbad22 we are the home of Julien Assange.
02:06 sinbad22 isnt that cool?
02:07 pigpenguin googling to pretend i know who he is
02:07 pigpenguin brb
02:07 pigpenguin oh
02:07 pigpenguin nvm i know who he is :P
02:07 sinbad22 L)
02:07 sinbad22 L)
02:07 sinbad22 why cant I do colon?
02:08 sinbad22 oh well
02:08 pigpenguin i think you are missing good sir
02:08 katsmeow-afk can't do colon because of the leylogger trojan
02:08 sinbad22 http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/406/setupwr.jpg/
02:08 sinbad22 http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/254/oscilloscope.jpg/
02:09 katsmeow-afk holycrap at the long lines
02:09 sinbad22 http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/208/closeupbu.jpg/
02:09 katsmeow-afk if that thing really wants to talk above 115k , those lines you connected te scope to are way too long
02:09 sinbad22 after that I put my probes directly to the pins and same thing happened on oscilloscope
02:10 katsmeow-afk aaahh,, digital scope, likely too slow a sampling rate, get a good analaog scope
02:10 sinbad22 Im too cheap to get a new one
02:10 katsmeow-afk so get a used one
02:11 katsmeow-afk i picked up TWO 7603 on ebay for 99 cents each
02:11 sinbad22 the problem is not so much that I have a bad scope but that I get a stupid signal that makes no sense
02:11 pigpenguin there was an analog one from a retired electric engineer up on craigslist here for free last week missed it by minutes :/
02:11 katsmeow-afk i bought a 5000 series plugin once, got the scope for it by paying only s&h
02:12 katsmeow-afk i'd bet this one works fine, there's no sweep because the doofus has the amplifier in the tmebase slot
02:13 katsmeow-afk http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tektronix-7603-Oscilloscope-/150773344403?pt=BI_Oscilloscopes&hash=item231acaa893
02:14 katsmeow-afk that'sa good price too, usually adding the cost of the plugins together is more than that
02:15 sinbad22 I love ebay its all so cheap
02:15 katsmeow-afk yeas, that was a very pricey scope in it's day, each plugin was ~$1000
02:17 katsmeow-afk but i dunno about the noise, cept it is *possible* the digital scope is severely undersampling
02:18 katsmeow-afk try watching an audo modulated RF signal with a digital undersampler scope, all you'll see is noise
02:19 sinbad22 but the signal is meant to only be 10ms up 10ms down etc
02:19 sinbad22 it cant be wonky sampling. The signal is stuffed up
02:20 katsmeow-afk then the motion detector is bad
02:21 sinbad22 whats a motion detector
02:21 katsmeow-afk the xsense imu
02:22 sinbad22 oh yeah
02:22 sinbad22 it is possible
02:23 tsmeow-afk
02:23 sinbad22 xsens is now my least favourite company
02:23 sinbad22 why does it say M pos -5/2ms
02:24 sinbad22 why does it say M pos -5.2 ms
02:24 sinbad22 whats M mean?
02:24 katsmeow-afk i am not familar with that scope, or most digital scopes, i have a lot of analog scopes tho
02:24 katsmeow-afk are you familiar with "rtfm" ?
02:24 sinbad22 no
02:25 katsmeow-afk <cough>
02:26 moriarty sinbad22, have you heard of weatherford by any chance?
02:26 sinbad22 no
02:27 sinbad22 have you ever eaten "seseme snacks"?
02:27 sinbad22 have you ever eaten "seseme snaps"?
02:27 sinbad22 not snacks
02:29 sinbad22 I might asks the same question tomorrow. I still cant figure it out
02:29 sinbad22 bye
02:29 katsmeow-afk good lucks
02:29 tsmeow-afk waves gn
07:55 rue_bed katsmeow-afk, know whats going on with the wind here?
07:56 rue_bed I dont recall seeing a wind alert
08:42 Tom_itx you hardly ever see it coming
08:56 rue_house damn, power went out
08:56 rue_house better get some tea while its still hot
09:14 rue_house ok, gens up
09:16 rue_house sinbads answer is Marker
09:37 delinquentme isnt there a stack overflow for robotics?
10:17 delinquentme what does it mean to "run out of flops"
11:51 katsmeow-afk means the math unit is too slow on floating point numbers
11:52 katsmeow-afk a "flop" is a term that's 40 years old and so basic, means "FLoating point OPeration"
11:53 katsmeow-afk to run out of them means the math unit (in the cpu core or a math co-processor chip)means there's none spare to run the code in real time
11:56 katsmeow-afk generally now, and this was once the rule, integer ops run faster, and run more at once, than floating point ops, which is why there are still signed and unsigned integer types in compilers
11:57 katsmeow-afk ints also take up less room in memory, and can be moved around much faster
11:58 katsmeow-afk some cpu, rumor has it, use the same pathways for flops as ints, so your mileage may vary
11:59 katsmeow-afk but even if they normalise the floatingpoints into ints, the normalising and reversion to floating hasto take some time
12:00 katsmeow-afk it's when cpu run out of flops that you see hardware designers switch to asics, fpga, and gpus
12:01 katsmeow-afk and why many superputers now have at least one gpu per cpu, some Crays have 4 gpu per cpu
12:04 katsmeow-afk i remember the olde 8086 at 12Mhz needed over 50 clocks to do some maths, dropping it to equal a 240khz clock or less, hence all the rage for 8087, etc
12:04 katsmeow-afk today, you can get math coprocessors for AVR, BASIC Stamp, PICs, etc, to get more flops
12:15 katsmeow-afk furr instance : http://www.awce.com/pak1.htm
12:37 tsmeow-afk marvels how this info was once critical to have, then was useless, and now is critical to superputers and <$10 ucontrollers a
12:37 Steffanx yes yes
12:53 katsmeow-afk i don't remember which cpu it was, but i remember one used it's internal math unit to calculate addresses, and to start a flop and get an interrupt would lag the cpu very badly, it's effective clock dropped below 100khz to answer the interrupt because it could not calculate the address to answer it
12:55 katsmeow-afk that's one reason why the Z80 family used shadow registers, it was bloody fast way to "clear" the cpu to handle interrupts
17:43 katsmeow-afk for those that missed it : http://sendthemyourmoney.com/
20:37 katsmeow-afk my back made the loudest grinding noise when i turned, and it feels better now
20:38 Tom_itx did it growl at you?
20:39 katsmeow-afk no, more like the sound and feel of two heavy boards with some gravel tween them
20:41 katsmeow-afk it got off the nerve it was on, i got feeling back (as well as is normal nowadays), and just some muscle twinges in my back now
20:41 katsmeow-afk so grinding noises are good?
20:41 pigpenguin aparently
20:42 katsmeow-afk then i shall endeavor to have more of them
20:42 Tom_itx seems in that case it is
20:42 Tom_itx just stay off the heavy metal a while
20:42 LoRez stretching your back is probably good
20:42 katsmeow-afk LoRez, the move that made it grind was a stretch
20:43 LoRez I deduced that :)
20:43 katsmeow-afk Tom, not going to move any steel or furniture or puters or test equipment for anotehr week or so
20:44 katsmeow-afk did you see http://sendthemyourmoney.com/ ?
20:44 katsmeow-afk since the record companies say a copy of something valueable is as valuable as the original, send them copies of your money as payment for downloads
20:45 pigpenguin haha nice
20:48 pigpenguin unfortunatly i can only afford to send 5 copies
20:49 katsmeow-afk yea, email costs these days, sheesh
20:50 pigpenguin dont they know we are in a recession
20:50 katsmeow-afk no, because they aren't
20:51 pigpenguin right
20:51 pigpenguin i keep forgetting that
20:51 pigpenguin its weird... i only ever see lables whine about pirating
20:52 pigpenguin well more or less a few exceptions here or there
20:52 katsmeow-afk i think it's wierd that you can *record* music off the radio, including digital radios and internet radio, but you cannot *download* the very same music
20:55 katsmeow-afk there's peole who get upset about downloading a tv show that's been shown 10 times on the air to everyone for FREE already
20:56 pigpenguin difference being ads... sorta
20:56 pigpenguin but when you can record the show and skip ads
20:56 katsmeow-afk the ads don't address my needs or wants, they are irrelavant
20:56 pigpenguin even have a script that deletes ads for you
20:57 pigpenguin my opinion is more tv places could do it like cbs is doing it with how i met your mother
20:57 katsmeow-afk i dunno how they do that
20:57 pigpenguin oh next day it goes online streaming for free on their website
20:57 katsmeow-afk ah
20:58 katsmeow-afk i cannot get CBS here
20:58 katsmeow-afk or Fox, or UPN, or etc
20:58 pigpenguin may i ask where you are?
20:59 katsmeow-afk yeas, you may ask
20:59 pigpenguin where are you?
20:59 katsmeow-afk may i not answer?
20:59 pigpenguin you have every right to
21:00 pigpenguin (not answer)
21:00 katsmeow-afk i live far enough away from Bham Alafuckingbama that analog tv was fine, and too far for any digital tv cept for one repeater out here for one crappy station
21:01 katsmeow-afk by crappy, i mean they cannot spell anything, they preempt news for sports, they air shows like Bachelor, and weekends are 24hour advertising
21:01 pigpenguin wow...
21:06 tsmeow-afk goes looking for di
21:06 pigpenguin good luck
21:19 Tom_itx btw katsmeow-afk did rue ever get power back on?
21:20 katsmeow-afk hmm, i guess not,, but he has generator(s), so he could be here
21:20 Tom_itx likely in the potatoe patch
21:21 katsmeow-afk bolt pinged out same time as all the rue's did, and bolt is back
21:22 Tom_itx so you're back in bama now?
21:22 Tom_itx or back and forth?
21:22 katsmeow-afk yeas :-(
21:22 Tom_itx or more forth than back?
21:22 Tom_itx sorry :(
21:22 katsmeow-afk here
21:23 katsmeow-afk and i lost the pontoon boat hulls and the big boat bow
21:23 Tom_itx are you gonna be able to retrieve the stuff you carted already?
21:24 katsmeow-afk some of it,, one matress is on the truck, and 20 boxes of books, and 12 boxes of vhs tapes, and thetarp leaks, and i won't be good to start unloading it for a week,, and it's been raining every day
21:29 katsmeow-afk i cannot tell you how stressfull this has been, and it's not over yet
21:30 katsmeow-afk it's just the way it is
21:30 Tom_itx well at least your back is feeling better for now
21:31 tsmeow-afk
21:32 katsmeow-afk today, in 1993, there was 3 inches of snow, 2ft blown up against the house, but i had 12v power for puter and tv, i had heat, i had light, i had water,,,,,,,,,, today, because of human interferrence and rules, i'd have no heat, no 12v, no radio, no tv, no puter, and no water
21:33 katsmeow-afk this is why i believe i need a boat in the ocean
21:33 pigpenguin human interferrence?
21:33 katsmeow-afk yeas
21:37 Tom_itx what about snow?
21:38 Tom_itx it's gonna be 80 here this week
21:38 katsmeow-afk 80 here tomorrow
21:39 Tom_itx 80 and 80?
21:39 Tom_itx more than likely
21:44 katsmeow-afk http://classic.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=Birmingham,%20Alabama&wuSelect=WEATHER&MR=1
21:54 tsmeow-afk looks for a
22:15 Aggrav8d katsmeow-afk - thanks for the http://sendthemyourmoney.com/ link. funny!
23:08 tsmeow-afk found a nap and too
23:10 katsmeow-afk Tom, maybe if you called rue on landline?
23:20 katsmeow-afk The capital of the US state of New Jersey faces running out of toilet paper following a dispute over costs.
23:20 katsmeow-afk Trenton's city council has refused to approve a $42,000 (£26,855) contract for paper products after balking at its $4,000 charge for paper cups.
23:31 XSerpentX i'm genna suicide, who's genna talk me down?
23:31 katsmeow-afk i dunno
23:32 katsmeow-afk if you are jumping off a bridge, isn't "talking you down" encouraging you to jump?
23:32 pigthepenguin i doubt he is on a bridge if he is on irc
23:32 katsmeow-afk humans don't use laptops in cars on bridges?
23:33 pigthepenguin they do, im just saying its unlikley
23:33 katsmeow-afk why don't we ask him?
23:33 katsmeow-afk yo go first
23:33 pigthepenguin are you on a bridge serpent?
23:33 katsmeow-afk are you on a bridge serpent?
23:34 XSerpentX ya
23:34 katsmeow-afk i dunno how i cut my ear, but it's bleeding profusely
23:34 pigthepenguin ouch
23:34 XSerpentX it's the cancer
23:34 katsmeow-afk i cannot see it
23:36 XSerpentX it's ok..you can reroll your dexterity roll in 10m

23:36 XSerpentX that makes me want to jump
23:36 katsmeow-afk sorry to advertise during your suicide
23:37 pigthepenguin so aparently zinc is about as dense as cast iron...
23:37 katsmeow-afk i'll give you a 60% cut of the profits if you forgive me
23:37 XSerpentX hmm..depends if it's equal to 1.5M
23:37 XSerpentX i want a helicopter
23:37 katsmeow-afk i won't know for a while, it isn't 1.5M yet tho
23:38 XSerpentX helicopter or i jump
23:38 katsmeow-afk 1.5M for a copter? y can make one for less
23:38 katsmeow-afk you see the one that's like one of those toy quadrotors, only wth bigger motors and blade and batteries?
23:38 katsmeow-afk guy was riding it
23:38 XSerpentX ya
23:38 XSerpentX he looked liek he was having fun
23:38 katsmeow-afk neato
23:39 pigthepenguin quadrotors make me happy inside

23:39 pigthepenguin that sounds painful
23:40 katsmeow-afk did you know Goce can be used to sense the Moho's depth?!
23:40 katsmeow-afk according to BBC, it can
23:41 katsmeow-afk not sure if that's Ferngi or what
23:41 katsmeow-afk ah

23:46 XSerpentX cool
23:51 XSerpentX what else
23:52 katsmeow-afk there's lots of homemade single-rotor gas powered copters, but i think most of those fail
