00:19 zhanx scary idea
00:19 zhanx and why is my fume fan making grinding noises?
00:20 katsmeow bad fumes
00:21 zhanx think i need to hack up another harddrive for this
00:21 zhanx http://www.amazon.com/RA250TB-Disconnect-Insulated-0-91-Inch-0-29-Inch/dp/B006HYSQAY/ref=sr_1_45?ie=UTF8&qid=1327903330&sr=8-45
00:22 katsmeow holy crap, one stakon for ONLY $483.37 ????
00:22 zhanx yep
00:23 zhanx better jump out it
00:23 katsmeow i need only half of one tho
00:24 zhanx http://www.amazon.com/Thomas-Betts-Liquidtight-Connector/dp/B005YT48YG/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1327904061&sr=1-8
00:24 zhanx really?
00:25 katsmeow who the heck is posting those things?
00:25 zhanx some morons or something
00:25 zhanx gov must be buying them
00:28 zhanx so i am moving into an apartment
00:29 katsmeow you get reimbursement?
00:29 zhanx my gf has a bigger tv and said my 52" is now my computer monitor
00:29 zhanx nope
00:30 katsmeow yeas,, but watch you wanna see football and she wants to watch gardening
00:30 katsmeow i wasn't aware of the gf
00:30 zhanx its a new addition
00:31 tsmeow
00:33 zhanx but i get to use a tv as a monitor and she thinks its ok, so score
00:33 tsmeow
00:34 zhanx she is a computer only tho, no hardware
00:34 katsmeow bases useto provide some family housing on-base, which was way cheaper, and closer to work
00:34 zhanx yes but i am not married so no dice
00:34 katsmeow oops
00:35 katsmeow my brain switched off 1:25 ago, sorry
00:35 zhanx tis ok
00:48 katsmeow since lizards cannot sense temperature(?), but they get slower as temperature drops, how would they know other lizards are slower, when their perception of the other lizard is slowed by the same amount?
00:49 rue_mohr dont need to see when I can feel it
00:49 rue_mohr er, they...
00:50 zhanx hmmm
00:52 rue_mohr http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/images/scope.png <-- LOOK! its almost done!
00:56 katsmeow same image as last ime, and it's not your scope
00:57 rue_mohr its about 1/4 of it
01:03 katsmeow add ram, storage, and you have a DSO
01:03 rue_mohr I mentioned that I was wondering if I shoudl just make a storage front end for the analog scope
01:04 katsmeow i saw a nice lil adc i want, it's a few $100 each chip
01:04 katsmeow no, not as a front end
01:05 katsmeow the front end is the modules, the adc, the puter control i/o of all that stuff
01:07 rue_mohr I used to have schematics for the heathkit tube scope
01:08 katsmeow it's basically a tv, yanno
01:08 rue_mohr I have a no-name tube scope that blew its tubes, I'v been savin it to make a scope
01:08 rue_mohr electrostatic deflection
01:08 katsmeow in fact, some people have watched real ntsc analog tv pics on their scopes
01:08 rue_mohr yup
01:09 rue_mohr just do xy on the horix and vert waves, and tap the gate to mod the inten and your golden
01:10 katsmeow most Tek scope have a Z input to modulate the drive
01:10 rue_mohr all the scopes I'v ever seen have a Z
01:10 katsmeow then why "tap the gate to mod the inten" ?
01:11 rue_mohr CONNECT THE SCOPE INTEN TO THE CRT GRID (sorry I said gate)
01:11 katsmeow but tehre is already a Z input for that
01:11 rue_mohr I know you know I know
01:12 rue_mohr Z = inten
01:12 katsmeow yeas
01:13 rue_mohr ok I'm too tired
01:13 katsmeow me three
01:14 rue_mohr oops, my serial library dosn't tell me how many bytes were it the returned data, cause its meant for 0 terminated strings
01:15 rue_mohr heh, the read function can tell me and I passed it a NULL pointer to throw away the data
01:24 katsmeow something you may not have considered: with a DSO you can add undersampling to it
01:24 katsmeow there was an undersampler for a Tek analog storage scope in the 1960's, good for like 4 Ghz
01:25 katsmeow undersampling is good only for repetative signals
01:26 rue_mohr <theme_music "jaws">

01:37 rue_mohr http://pastebin.com/m2775b194 <-- scarry to think they never get rid of this pastebin stuff
01:37 katsmeow that is why you are supposed to own your own domain
01:38 katsmeow http://pastebin.com/dMsmNaPu
01:40 katsmeow wierdness http://pastebin.com/baEJgcWa
01:42 tsmeow ponders putting pieces of SKynet on pastebin, randomly mixed, see if anyone puts it all back toge
01:43 katsmeow woo, hacked bank accounts data : http://pastebin.com/1Yq6xZcc
01:45 rue_mohr is that a document for scraping multiple accounts to get a particular total?
01:46 katsmeow i not sure
01:46 katsmeow i think you buy some card numbers, and charge things to the cards online
01:46 katsmeow i dunno
01:46 tsmeow pokes at l
01:48 katsmeow what Do you do with data like this?
01:52 katsmeow http://pastebin.com/realtime
01:54 rue_mohr http://pastebin.com/xAPpphir I found a password!
02:05 katsmeow what did you post this password to?
02:05 rue_bed I dont know, I saw a few later
02:05 rue_bed along with quite a bit of the porn industry underworld links
02:06 rue_bed and quite a bit of code, lots of different languages
02:07 katsmeow how do i know if an oil pressure sending unit is a switch or an analog output?
02:17 katsmeow zzzzzzzzzz
07:33 SolarNRG I've filed down the rotor of my windscreen wiper motor to the point where my 35mm pinion gear with the 5mm bore fits onto the rotor... however........
07:33 SolarNRG The gear now spins in and out, the new rotor arm I have filed down is off centre, what can I do to make the gear spin round around the axis of the rotor?
07:33 SolarNRG Can anyone help?
07:40 theBear umm, spring-tension the gears pivoting on the easiest side to arrange it ?
08:27 SolarNRG I've run into a new dilemma
08:28 SolarNRG At first I thought my 1newton meter stepper motor was not powerful enough to drive my dish, but after buying a windscreen wiper motor and filing it down to shape I've dismantled my gearbox and discovered the motor was plenty powerful, but the epoxy resin holding the rotor to the pinion gear was not.
08:29 SolarNRG Should I tap my pinion gear onto the existing stepper motor and see what happens first or should I go ahead and replace it with the windscreen wiper motor?
08:29 SolarNRG I've just bought an HSS 4mm tap
08:30 SolarNRG My 30 quid set of taps and dies are too soft and won't carve the hardened steel my gears are made from
08:52 rue_mohr SolarNRG, gday
08:52 rue_mohr SolarNRG, can you do a close up photo of that thing?
08:54 rue_mohr isn't 30 quid less than a pound
08:54 rue_mohr ?
09:10 SolarNRG Hang on I'm uploading a video
09:10 SolarNRG Will this help?
09:10 SolarNRG Its about 12 percent uploaded to youtube
09:12 SolarNRG 30 quid is 30 pounds
09:12 SolarNRG or that's about 50 us dollars
09:12 SolarNRG or that's about 60 canadian or australian dollars
09:12 SolarNRG that's also about 35 euros
09:13 SolarNRG and its like 100,000 hungarian forint!!!
09:14 rue_mohr your video ws dark and blurry, I'd like a good photo
09:15 SolarNRG I'll see what I can do
09:17 rue_mohr I"m off to work in about 5 minutes

09:46 SolarNRG Here's another
10:09 katsmeow your tapered and out-of-round and off-axis shaft is a great demo of why lathes exist
10:09 SolarNRG LOL thanks
10:10 katsmeow i am guessing that the shaft cannot be removed from the case?
10:11 SolarNRG http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_IsOhhzm1M
10:11 SolarNRG I ended up turning the motor on and using a lamp, lens and a diamond file and just kept filing as it went round, its much better now
10:11 SolarNRG The lighting is much better in this video
10:13 katsmeow so you figured out the ww motor has gobs of torque, and i am waiting on you to realise the only way to get that torque to something useable is to use the tapered arm that was meant to go on the tapered shaft
10:16 katsmeow i made a power-boosted handheld wire cutter to make the stuff on http://designerthinking.com/chainmaille.html
10:16 katsmeow i used a windshield wiper motor
10:20 SolarNRT I'm back
10:20 katsmeow had you left? i thought you were just ignoring me
10:20 katsmeow http://designerthinking.com/images/chainmaille/DSCF0955.jpg
10:20 katsmeow http://designerthinking.com/images/chainmaille/DSCF0956.jpg
10:20 katsmeow http://designerthinking.com/images/chainmaille/DSCF0957.jpg
10:22 katsmeow i used the oem ww motor crank, with it's tapered fitting, and built up a pulley for the rope onto it, and just left the crank, but i could have cut it off the finished pulley
10:25 katsmeow ...
10:25 SolarNRT No sorry my pc crashed
10:25 katsmeow :-/
10:25 SolarNRT Because I was uploading a video to youtube, Lexi tried to use the internet and my routers is a bit naf
10:25 katsmeow your cat can use the internet?! cool!
10:26 SolarNRT Lexi's my gf
10:26 tsmeow will copy/paste what you mi
10:26 katsmeow o
10:26 SolarNRT That looks like a wiper motor tied on with a bit of string
10:26 katsmeow [11:02] <SolarNRG> The lighting is much better in this video
10:26 katsmeow [11:05] <katsmeow> so you figured out the ww motor has gobs of torque, and i am waiting on you to realise the only way to get that torque to something useable is to use the tapered arm that was meant to go on the tapered shaft
10:26 katsmeow [11:07] <katsmeow> i made a power-boosted handheld wire cutter to make the stuff on http://designerthinking.com/chainmaille.html
10:26 katsmeow [11:07] <katsmeow> i used a windshield wiper motor
10:26 katsmeow [11:11] <SolarNRT> I'm back
10:26 katsmeow [11:13] <katsmeow> i used the oem ww motor crank, with it's tapered fitting, and built up a pulley for the rope onto it, and just left the crank, but i could have cut it off the finished pulley
10:28 katsmeow i made up the pulley, which you pretty much cannot see in that photo, by brazing it to the underside of the crank/arm
10:28 katsmeow and then just not cutting the arm off when done
10:29 katsmeow i brazed it because there wasn't enough metal to weld to
10:30 katsmeow there was enough side load it mattered how far off the pulley was, by mounting it under the crank/arm, it was closer to the bearing in the case, and less likely to bend
10:30 katsmeow you could mount a gear or sprocket the same way
10:31 katsmeow are you here?
10:31 SolarNRT I've made 6 in one chainmail before, knackers your thumbs after a while
10:32 tsmeow does a great many things, but the point was the windscreen motor pulley t
10:32 SolarNRT I'm also scared to weld wiper motors because the other side of the rotor is a big plastic gear
10:32 SolarNRT And I think that plastic gear would melt if you tried to MIG it
10:33 katsmeow i did not weld to anything on the motor
10:33 SolarNRT You kept your arm on it seems
10:33 katsmeow damnit, does ANYONE read what i type or say???????
10:33 katsmeow no, i took the arm off, mounted the pulley under it, and then reattached it
10:34 katsmeow do you not see the nut on the end of the shaft on http://designerthinking.com/images/chainmaille/DSCF0955.jpg
10:36 katsmeow look at the lower right quadrant of the pulley, you can see the square end of the arm ending inside the radius of the pulley rim
10:37 tsmeow give
10:37 SolarNRT Yeah I can see that
10:37 SolarNRT I don't get what the wiper is pulling
10:37 SolarNRT I see the nut
10:37 SolarNRT I got that off with a socket set
10:37 SolarNRT And a bit of WD40
10:37 useless the wiper spools the white cord onto the pulley
10:38 useless the white cord pulls a steel cable
10:38 useless the steel cable is a LOT LESS flexable, and unspoolable
10:38 SolarNRT I don't see a pulley to spool onto
10:39 useless if you zoom the pic to 2x ,
10:40 useless you can see the cord is under the arm, under the washer brazed to and under the arm, and above the larger oblong pieceabove the
10:41 SolarNRT the weird elongated octagonal thing?
10:41 useless i give up
10:41 SolarNRT That things a pully?
10:41 SolarNRT pulley
10:42 useless yeas, it and i am fucking wierd and incomprehesable, hence useless
10:42 SolarNRT Shouldn't a pulley be round?
10:42 useless the pulley IS round , the back flange of the pulley isn't
10:43 useless it was a piece of scrap, which i didn't bother turning down
10:43 Tom_itx when did you become useless again?
10:44 useless and i am regretting ever posting it online
10:44 useless [11:28] * katsmeow gives up
10:44 useless [11:28] *** katsmeow is now known as useless
10:44 useless Tom, i tell him it's a pulley, and he pretty much says it isn't
10:45 Tom_itx oh, put pressure on it and measure the output with an ohm meter
10:45 useless i don't have it
10:45 Tom_itx and see if it switches or just changes resistance
10:45 useless if i had it, i know how to, but i don't
10:45 Tom_itx ask em then
10:45 useless Tom, all the data i have is on http://stores.ebay.com/Summit-Racing-Equipment/Gauges-Accessories-/_i.html?_nkw=pressure+sender&LH_TitleDesc=1&_fsub=6&_sid=178360995
10:46 useless send them 24 emails asking about each item?
10:47 eless deletes the pics SolarNRT cannot figure
10:48 useless tehre'deleted
10:49 useless that's 3 fewer useless pics of how to use a windshield motor in robotics
10:50 useless i feel so much more useless for wasting my time taking the pics and posting them for all to see how dumbass i am for making great lil projects that work so well
10:53 useless ya know, all Skynet needs do to crash humanity is to post misinformation on the internet, because i see no one is figuring out stuff for themselves anymore
10:54 useless i stack up some washers to make a ROUND pulley, braze them together, and braze themto the underside of the crank-arm, and damned if i am told it isn't round or a pulley
10:55 Tom_itx aww
10:55 useless not "aww", more like SHIT!
10:55 useless i wasted my time, but he cannot benefit from my example and expereince
10:55 useless THAT sucks
10:55 Tom_itx you know what criticism means?
10:56 Tom_itx it means you are moving forward and making progress
10:56 useless Tom,, it wasn't a critique he made, because the pulley IS round, it's more like he is denying reality
10:57 Tom_itx then there are those too
10:57 Tom_itx gotta run
10:57 useless have fun
10:57 Tom_itx food run
10:57 Tom_itx no food in the house
10:57 SolarNRT Same
10:57 SolarNRT I'm hungry too
10:58 SolarNRT We have a tin of kidney beans
10:58 useless bring me some chocolate milk please
10:58 SolarNRT That's about it
10:59 eless ponders deleting the whole damned
14:31 panda81 Hi. For a robot arm to lift say 45kg, what type of bearing (is this the right term?) would be needed
14:34 Tom_itx one rated for that load
14:36 panda81 what is the unit or keyword for that? I.e., if I were to look at a Kaydon catalogue
14:44 panda81 e.g., what should I look for in http://www.kaydonbearings.com/downloads/catalog300/Kaydon_300_RealiSlim_open_typeA.pdf
15:00 Agrgav8d what do you mean, bearing? A bearing won't lift the load.
15:01 Agrgav8d What you probably want is an DC stepper and a gearbox
15:02 Agrgav8d with a bearing, you'll have axial force (pressure along the line going through the center of the bearing) and radial force (pressure orthogonal to the line previously mentioned). radial force will be the bigger problem.
15:26 panda81 Hmm, I had the impression a bearing is to reduce friction to allow say a bicycle wheel to spin. If relevant parts can spin, then there is torque to act as a pulley
16:13 RobotFamily test
16:13 RobotFamily hey guys
16:14 RobotFamily anyone work with 433Mhz trans / rec pairs?
16:39 fckng_stupid panda, what you said makes no sense
17:08 Agrgav8d panda - just because parts *can* spin doesn't guarantee torque.
17:09 LoRez panda is no longer with us
17:10 fckng_stupid plus, torque is a force, it cannot be a physical part like a pulley
17:13 RobotFamily like i said
17:13 RobotFamily anyone know how 433Mhz RF transmitters / recievers work?
17:13 fckng_stupid like i did not say, i dunno
17:14 fckng_stupid same as any transmitter/reciever pair, i bet
17:15 RobotFamily can u put serial data thru it
17:16 RobotFamily it seems to have the carrier signal on the output of the receiver
17:16 fckng_stupid regarding the format of the data , did you rtfm ?
17:16 fckng_stupid and how does it seem to have carrier on the ouput of the reciever?
17:17 RobotFamily well i hooked a LED up to the outpud
17:17 RobotFamily and it flickers on what i assume is the carrier
17:17 fckng_stupid and you watched the led blink at 433Mhz ?
17:17 RobotFamily when i apply a high to the trans data in
17:17 RobotFamily it flashes a slightly brighter flash
17:17 RobotFamily i then put it to a 20ms pulse
17:18 RobotFamily and i saw the pulse on the reciever end
17:18 fckng_stupid you need a scope
17:18 RobotFamily i read sometimes if there is no input on the data in on the trans
17:18 RobotFamily the receiver can spit out random noise
17:19 RobotFamily it uses OOK over ASM
17:19 RobotFamily so my understanding is seeing the carrier on the reciever output is "normal"
17:20 fckng_stupid true, the reciever is not going to validate the data for you, it spits out whatever it recieves
17:20 RobotFamily right..so the question is
17:20 RobotFamily should i use a encoder / decoder
17:20 RobotFamily IC set
17:20 fckng_stupid you shold not see the 433Mhz carrier, no, and the led won't on-off that fast, and neither can you see it
17:20 RobotFamily or can my microcontroller automagically send serial data as is
17:21 RobotFamily i'm using a arduino
17:21 fckng_stupid arduino is avr
17:21 RobotFamily ARM
17:21 RobotFamily wel
17:21 RobotFamily ok i'm using a netduino the ardunio cousin
17:21 RobotFamily which is ARM i believe
17:22 RobotFamily AMTEL
17:22 RobotFamily 32 bit
17:22 fckng_stupid •Atmel 32-bit microcontroller
17:22 fckng_stupid •48Mhz, ARM7
17:22 fckng_stupid •14 Digital I/O Pins
17:22 fckng_stupid •6 Analog Inputs
17:22 fckng_stupid •Arduino Shield Compatible
17:22 RobotFamily ye
17:23 RobotFamily i want to take info from my PC
17:23 RobotFamily and wirelessly transmit it to the netduino
17:23 RobotFamily so i can use parralell
17:23 RobotFamily or serial comm
17:24 fckng_stupid i do not know what the netduino put out for a serial stream, and it's possible you can command it to use a modulated subcarrier
17:24 RobotFamily what i'm thinking is to pick up some HT12E and HT12F encoder / decoder
17:24 RobotFamily it can do regular serial communicat
17:25 RobotFamily like baud 1200 parity stop, etc
17:25 RobotFamily it has a RX and TX ports
17:25 RobotFamily it works off 3.3v tho
17:25 RobotFamily so 12V PC to 3.3V converter needed
17:25 fckng_stupid i do not know if you need it or not
17:26 RobotFamily but doesn't serial comm
17:26 RobotFamily have it's own carrier
17:26 RobotFamily ?
17:26 fckng_stupid you are sucking me into a conversation on what's best for whatever you are doing, and i already said i dunno some 10 minutes ago
17:26 RobotFamily we can chat about something else if u like
17:29 fckng_stupid i am too stupid to know what to talk about with humans
17:29 RobotFamily yeah me too
17:38 kng_stupid is just amazed that in 1985, when $12 then equals $25 now, you could get, for the same price, a 1Mhz 8bit cpu with no ram, rom, or any built-in i/o protocols, and that was a tremendous break
17:39 fckng_stupid there's more ram in the $29 netduino than the 6502 could address, and the 64k of stupidly slow ram was $100
17:45 RobotFamily yeah i wish i bought the netduino plus tho
17:45 RobotFamily network and storage support built in
17:45 RobotFamily i could deploy turrets for $250 each
17:45 fckng_stupid turrets?
17:45 RobotFamily i mean...RC cars...
17:45 RobotFamily *shifty eyes*
17:46 fckng_stupid oh
17:53 fckng_stupid Just like the RFID Blocking Wallet, your personal information never leaks out, and you won't have to put tin-foil down your pants.
17:55 fckng_stupid i didn't know a reason was needed to put tin foil down one's pants
17:56 RobotFamily yeah, we could all use one of magneto's helmet's too
18:46 RobotFamily anyone here actually do robotics
18:51 horar yes
18:52 horar infurl.net is my latest project
18:59 RobotFamily cool
19:00 RobotFamily i have to do the seriel comm from the pc
19:00 RobotFamily what does serial comm look like
19:02 horar anyone here on google+ ?? we're doing a hangout right now, show and tell robots via video conference.
19:03 RobotFamily i wish :/
19:04 RobotFamily anything cool
19:04 horar always.
19:06 RobotFamily did u just..snub me out of your robot show and tell? wow..that's a first
19:09 rue_mohr hi
19:09 rue_mohr kat, your name badge fell off again :(
19:10 RobotFamily who's kat and how hot is she?
19:10 rue_mohr hotter than you think
19:10 RobotFamily so nice..
19:10 e_mohr look at kat with a blank
19:10 RobotFamily hot girls make life better
19:10 RobotFamily hows it going btw rue
19:10 rue_mohr I had an exhausting day
19:11 RobotFamily make any money?
19:11 rue_mohr I want to do all sorts of awesome things
19:11 rue_mohr but topping the list I want to sleep
19:11 rue_mohr I work at an hourly wage
19:14 RobotFamily cool
19:14 RobotFamily what is that value set at currently?
19:26 rue_mohr hu?
20:15 horar back again.
20:20 fckng_stupid front again
20:22 horar are you making a robot, Stupid?
20:22 kng_stupid is not merely St
20:22 fckng_stupid ask rue
20:22 horar oh sorry
20:22 horar are you making a robot, Mr Stupid?
20:23 fckng_stupid <<== kat
20:23 horar Still got dog problems?
20:24 fckng_stupid paused in the process of moving
20:25 horar I"ve just been out setting up running leads for our dogs. They've discovered that they can dig under the fence.
20:26 fckng_stupid bury some fence underground?
20:27 fckng_stupid run a trencher along the fenceline, plant concrete
20:27 horar Too many rocks. I thought they wouldn't be able to dig out, but they found a gap among the rocks in the ground under the fence.
20:27 horar Guess we'll have to pile up rocks all along the fence now. If they try to dig, the rocks fall in to the hole and stop them.
20:27 fckng_stupid ok, drive 1/2" rebar in 4 inches apart, 3ft deep?
20:28 horar That might work. Would have to buy the rebar though. Rocks on the other hand, are free.
20:28 horar I'll keep a look out for some scrap though, that's an excellent idea.
20:29 fckng_stupid <curtsey> don't tell anyone i was helpful
20:29 horar How are things going for you now anyway?
20:29 fckng_stupid paused in the process of moving out of Alaforkingbama
20:30 fckng_stupid this place is significantly smaller, waiting on a barn to be built, so i have a place to put things and resume moving
20:34 fckng_stupid it's enough distance that fuel costs matter, so how things are packed and what order they come down also matters
20:35 horar darn out, my connection dropped out. i missed what you said earlier, sorry. please say it again if it's not too much trouble.
20:35 fckng_stupid i can put several tons on the truck and a couple on the trailer, so smaller denser things go on the truck's 8x10 flatbed, and big fluffy things go on the 16x7 trailer
20:35 fckng_stupid what was the last y ou saw?
20:36 horar i didn't see anything else after i asked you about your boat.
20:36 fckng_stupid i didn't see you ask about the boat
20:36 fckng_stupid [21:20] <fckng_stupid> <curtsey> don't tell anyone i was helpful
20:36 fckng_stupid [21:20] <horar> How are things going for you now anyway?
20:36 fckng_stupid [21:21] <fckng_stupid> paused in the process of moving out of Alaforkingbama
20:36 fckng_stupid [21:21] <fckng_stupid> this place is significantly smaller, waiting on a barn to be built, so i have a place to put things and resume moving
20:37 fckng_stupid [21:25] <fckng_stupid> it's enough distance that fuel costs matter, so how things are packed and what order they come down also matters
20:37 fckng_stupid [21:26] <horar> darn out, my connection dropped out. i missed what you said earlier, sorry. please say it again if it's not too much trouble.
20:37 fckng_stupid [21:26] <fckng_stupid> i can put several tons on the truck and a couple on the trailer, so smaller denser things go on the truck's 8x10 flatbed, and big fluffy things go on the 16x7 trailer
20:37 fckng_stupid [21:26] <fckng_stupid> what was the last y ou saw?
20:37 horar last thing i saw was that your move out of alabama was paused.
20:37 horar thanks
20:37 orlok fckng_stupid: oh, cool, well done!
20:38 horar i spent most of last year totally engrossed in programming hence not much robotics.
20:38 horar started making some solar panels now and doing some soldering.
20:38 fckng_stupid i did more deleting code than writing new code
20:38 orlok i got a baby!
20:38 horar why was that?
20:38 orlok :)
20:39 horar congrats orlok! a poopy one, not a wind up one i am assuming?
20:39 fckng_stupid moved here, set up Tiggr, got put in my place by rue, so i shut down Tiggr, and have lost all interest in coding, robots, or soldering
20:39 fckng_stupid hence i am fckng_stupid
20:39 horar rue helped you move?
20:39 Tom_itx how did you get put in your place?
20:40 fckng_stupid rue did not help me move
20:40 orlok yup, squealing pooping giggling baby
20:40 orlok that just started sleeping through the night this weekend
20:40 fckng_stupid Tom, rue told me i had no clue how the code enforcement and electician tickets were handled in Fla, usa
20:40 horar make the most of it while it lasts
20:40 Tom_itx oh
20:40 horar it'll be a good 20 years before you get another good night's sleep ;)
20:40 Tom_itx i take it you're in florida now
20:40 rue_mohr Tom_itx, ever herad of a low voltage permitt?
20:41 rue_mohr er ticket?
20:41 Tom_itx no
20:41 fckng_stupid nah, in 20 yrs he'll be up taking care of a grandkid
20:41 rue_mohr huh
20:41 rue_mohr crazy usa
20:41 Tom_itx why?
20:41 Tom_itx it may be required but i'm not aware of any low voltage rules
20:41 horar unless he's in jail in which case you'll be taking care of the grandkid ;)
20:41 rue_mohr I was sure the electrician from the states said they had them there
20:41 orlok nope, i'll have a collection of shovels with $YOUR_NAME_HERE on them
20:41 rue_mohr low voltage is under 300V
20:41 horar hehe
20:41 Tom_itx rue_mohr, i don't know about it
20:41 orlok its a she
20:41 rue_mohr huh
20:42 Tom_itx well under 300v sure
20:42 Tom_itx there are licenses you need to have
20:42 rue_mohr its called low voltage tho
20:42 fckng_stupid i tell you it does not exist here, rue, and you just do not believe me, and i dunno why
20:42 rue_mohr you cant do industrial
20:42 horar orlok our she moved out at the start of the year.
20:42 RobotFamily ye, what rue said
20:42 horar still waiting for the he to move out.
20:42 Tom_itx i was pretty sure you needed to apprentice for 5 years before you could take the electrician's test for a license
20:42 orlok ahah wtf
20:42 orlok assange is going to be on the simpsons
20:43 rue_mohr but ther is a lesser liscence
20:43 Tom_itx and likely more than that for high voltage
20:43 rue_mohr one that plumbers use to hook up hot water tanks
20:43 Tom_itx and industrial
20:43 RobotFamily unless u live in soviet russia
20:43 fckng_stupid apprentace, journeyman, master , but they are all for working on anything the boss oversees
20:43 fckng_stupid there is no 120vac-only license
20:43 RobotFamily technically he must be onsite tho
20:43 fckng_stupid there is no class-2 license
20:44 Tom_itx i know if i need wiring done, i do it
20:44 fckng_stupid i pulled 277v-480v 3-phasestuff, and i didn't have a master's
20:44 RobotFamily ye if ur house burns down cause of that wiring, they won't pay a thing
20:45 Tom_itx i did have to have an electrician out to change the main pannel once though
20:45 Tom_itx he let me wire the rest of my basement myself and it all passed code
20:46 LoRez nice guy
20:46 Tom_itx yeah he was
20:46 fckng_stupid in many, if not all, parts of the use, the land/home owner can do their own wiring except for the service entrance and main breaker box
20:46 Tom_itx plumber was the same way
20:46 RobotFamily well, are we talking about if you are able to watch pirated movies, or if it is legal to watch pirated movies
20:46 fckng_stupid it still must pass inspection to be covered by insurance
20:46 Tom_itx and it did
20:46 Tom_itx the city looked at it all
20:47 RobotFamily or is the actual crime copywrite infringement
20:47 Tom_itx it's a crime
20:48 fckng_stupid hey, they killed tv to rural areas when switchuing to digital transmissions, so i can watch tv only by downloading it online
20:48 RobotFamily shitty
20:48 fckng_stupid went from watching 6 channels to zero overnite
20:48 RobotFamily tv is kinda fucked
20:49 Tom_itx kat, just fewer commercials you have to watch
20:49 fckng_stupid so to watch Big Bang Theory, i haveto use the puter
20:49 Tom_itx i got all 5 seasons
20:49 RobotFamily wait is fkng stupid a girl?
20:49 Tom_itx no, just kat
20:49 fckng_stupid Tom, true, even CBS, which shows it other than "pirates", removed the commercials online
20:49 LoRez why does it matter?
20:50 RobotFamily oh..i almost got an internet boner
20:50 Tom_itx good for you
20:50 fckng_stupid so downloading it for free from anywhere is the same as downloading it from CBS, so i see no criminal copyright theft
20:50 RobotFamily meeting girls on the internet is the best
20:50 LoRez RobotFamily: don't be a douchebag.
20:51 kng_stupid looks at Tom and thinks i think i'll keep this
20:51 Tom_itx naw
20:51 Tom_itx you need your real one back
20:51 LoRez yes, yes you do.
20:51 fckng_stupid RobotFamily will outgrow his pants, if he is wearing any
20:51 Tom_itx likely typing one handed
20:52 fckng_stupid thing is, if that is all he thinks of women, he'll believe this nick over the one you want me to use
20:53 fckng_stupid there's several women in this channel, and now they know to stay away from RobotFamily
20:53 Tom_itx thank you
20:54 Rez hugs
20:54 tsmeow carefully hugs LoRez
20:55 horar Is anyone here on G+ too? There's a lot of robotics stuff going on there. Probably why it's so long since I've been on here.
20:55 horar Though I did miss you folks.
20:55 Tom_itx where you been?
20:55 katsmeow horar, takes an invite still? and registering for spam and gstr,, gmail and everything else, and phone calls and bank accounts?
20:55 orlok Hmm. ANybody here have deep understanding of arduino's and serial?
20:56 horar I've been in the same place, but have been so preoccupied with robotics on G+ that I never really got around to going anywhere else.
20:56 horar No it's open to all Kat, and you don't even have to use your real name, though it's better if you do.
20:56 horar The quality of the conversation always seems to be inversely proportional to the level of anonymity.
20:56 katsmeow are you saying my name is not Kat? <blink>
20:57 horar I thought your name was Meow?
20:57 horar Isn't it?
20:57 horar Ms Meow?
20:58 rue_mohr katsmeow, !!!
20:58 orlok horar: They revoked the "real name" stuff?
20:58 katsmeow nono, people would ask me if i was online, and of course *i* am not, but my voice/meow is, because *i* cannot be digitised, but my meow can be, so this is my meow, hence "kat's meow"
20:58 horar not exactly, but they are tolerant of unrealistic names.
20:59 orlok horar: i know skud
20:59 orlok heh
20:59 horar i still think it's better when people know each other's names. it really does cut out the BS, even if we normally use aliases like here.
20:59 katsmeow You need a Google Account to join Google+.
20:59 horar yes
20:59 Tom_itx rue_mohr, what's a gallon of gas cost up there?
21:00 katsmeow do they sell it in gallons up there?
21:00 Tom_itx no
21:01 Tom_itx where i came from it was over $8 a gallon
21:01 katsmeow wow, where?
21:01 katsmeow .eu ?
21:01 Tom_itx .ky
21:01 katsmeow no way
21:01 Tom_itx way
21:02 horar it's $1.50/litre here
21:04 orlok nurrgh.. goddamn paperwork
21:04 orlok and my manager left without aprooving it
21:04 katsmeow http://www.kentuckygasprices.com/Map_Gas_Prices.aspx says Kentucky is $3.50-$3.70 all over the state
21:04 orlok so now i dont have anything to do but generate more paperwork
21:05 katsmeow New York and Californica are $3.80 and up
21:05 Tom_itx not ky
21:05 Tom_itx .ky
21:05 katsmeow why were you payng $8/gal, Tom??
21:06 katsmeow oh, the islands
21:06 Tom_itx i didn't i took the bus
21:07 katsmeow stealing busses for their fuel, smart move!
21:07 Tom_itx damn right
21:09 katsmeow horar, you spelled resource wrong
21:09 RobotFamily ...a real girl?
21:09 orlok How often should i poll for new serial data?
21:10 orlok The rate would need to increase as baud rate went up?
21:10 katsmeow orlok, that's a seriously personal question
21:10 orlok or would it depend on the USB interface buffer?
21:10 katsmeow depends on power use, buss contention, expected rate of transmissions, etc
21:10 orlok (talking arduino specifically here)
21:11 RobotFamily u can't interupt orloK?
21:11 horar did i?
21:11 RobotFamily hopefully ur buffering that data then
21:11 orlok can i?
21:11 katsmeow can't you toss ouot an int signal, then an address, so you get the reciever's attention then say which one you want to talk to, so it can listen? saves doing all that polling
21:11 horar katsmeow: did i?
21:12 katsmeow yeas, on the ad for robot recipies
21:12 horar katsmeow: i don't write the ads myself. they're put there automatically be google.
21:12 horar by*
21:12 katsmeow they spelled it "resourse"
21:13 horar katsmeow: then shame on them.
21:13 katsmeow i'd grab a whip and flay them for it
21:13 Tom_itx kat, i've been to hell and back too
21:13 RobotFamily god i miss my electronics...i'm at the inlaws right now..god fml
21:13 tsmeow looks at
21:14 RobotFamily i really wanna hook up with a nerdy girl
21:14 Tom_itx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hellgiftshop.JPG
21:14 horar RobotFamily: why don't you ask your inlaws, maybe they know one.
21:14 katsmeow RobotFamily, i'll bet a nerdy girl will see no reason to hook up with you
21:15 horar RobotFamily: ... who they'd rather you were with.
21:15 katsmeow Tom, Cat's Cay is private, cannot even visit without an invite
21:17 katsmeow horar, another block: google "supports" (wtf "support"??) only IE9+ (which isn't available for winxp), or whatever else they want you to switch to
21:17 katsmeow and that's on http://www.robotrecipes.co.nz/
21:19 tsmeow starts making up header lines for various brow
21:19 horar yeah i always wanted to build a website for robotics like that myself, but i gave up when i found letsmakerobots.com
21:19 horar it's not perfect and it's stupid name, but it's also more or less unbeatable.
21:23 katsmeow takes 30 browser http transactions to get refused based on browser
21:23 katsmeow 30!
21:23 katsmeow and the very first lines i send on the very first connections are :
21:23 katsmeow GET / HTTP/1.1
21:23 katsmeow Accept: */*
21:23 katsmeow Accept-Language: en-us
21:23 katsmeow User-Agent: damn your nazi browser demands SUCK
21:23 katsmeow Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
21:23 katsmeow Host: www.robotrecipes.co.nz
21:24 katsmeow what User-Agent do you think they'll approve?
21:25 katsmeow and they attempt to set cookies like this:
21:25 katsmeow Cookie: frontend=h1717oa908qk9q1ifjucoiupl2; __utma=252539146.1256943840.1327979118.1327979118.1327979118.1; __utmb=252539146.2.10.1327979118; __utmc=252539146; __utmz=252539146.1327979118.1.1.utmcsr=(direct)|utmccn=(direct)|utmcmd=(none)
21:25 katsmeow that's too much cookie
21:26 katsmeow hello?
21:26 Tom_itx hello¿
21:26 rue_mohr hi
21:26 katsmeow oddly, this works! ==>> http://www.onlineanonymizer.com//?__proxy_url=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5yb2JvdHJlY2lwZXMuY28ubnov
21:27 Tom_itx i need a shower, i've been playing plumber
21:27 katsmeow wow, idiot page layout
21:42 katsmeow http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7yBnl_krN_U
21:57 RobotFamily wow i just read what u guys wrote
21:57 RobotFamily pretty hateful
21:58 katsmeow where?
21:59 RobotFamily about the girls not having reason
21:59 RobotFamily i'm a good looking guy
21:59 RobotFamily and i'm fit and healthy
21:59 horar and shallow as a mirror
21:59 LoRez RobotFamily: but you're an asshole
21:59 katsmeow and you think looks are so important
22:00 RobotFamily i'm very intelligent, exceptional business skills,
22:00 katsmeow you gotta be under 20 yrs old?
22:00 horar so what. you're an asshole. nothing else matters.
22:00 RobotFamily i'm actually quite nice once u get to know me
22:00 RobotFamily i'm funny, charming, generous, and friendly
22:00 horar who'd want to get to know you?
22:01 horar what a load of BS
22:01 tsmeow tries to calm horar with some
22:01 RobotFamily hahah
22:01 horar lol, i'm calm.
22:01 Rez scratches behind katsmeow's
22:01 tsmeow p
22:01 RobotFamily I'm also very stable, in my personality and traits
22:02 RobotFamily can you say the same?
22:02 horar no we can't say the same because all we know of you completely contradicts what you are claiming.
22:02 katsmeow no, i respond to the environment, and so my persoanality varies some
22:04 RobotFamily that doesn't sound so bad then kat
22:04 RobotFamily and you seem more or less positive even in slightly oppressive situations
22:04 katsmeow lol
22:05 RobotFamily not so much for horar tho
22:06 tsmeow ponders feeding the cats on the back p
22:06 katsmeow not much to ponder, really
22:07 tsmeow looks for her people-clo
22:10 katsmeow ok, to put down 1/4 inch of water on a space , from a 55gal drum, covers an area ~10x40ft that sounds small
22:11 horar that would be so easy to work out in metric.
22:11 katsmeow but you'd get the same results, right?
22:12 horar if you didn't make a mistake you should.
22:12 katsmeow 55gal covers an inch over ~10x10, so 1/4 is is 10x40
22:12 katsmeow that just cannot be right
22:12 horar have you tried using wolfram alpha?
22:12 katsmeow no
22:13 katsmeow well, not lately
22:13 katsmeow when it's going to beta?
22:13 horar 55 gallons is 208 litres
22:13 horar 1 litre is 10x10x10 cm of water
22:14 katsmeow i used 24 as the dia, so my numbers should be high
22:15 katsmeow 55 gall drum is 59,798 cu inches
22:15 katsmeow or an inch over 59,798 inches square
22:15 katsmeow or an inch over 244.53 square inches
22:16 katsmeow or ~20x20 feet
22:16 katsmeow that smells better
22:16 horar 208000 cubic centimetres, multiply by 10/6 and that gives you the area.
22:17 horar 346666.666666667 square centimetres
22:17 katsmeow 346,666.7 what's ?
22:17 katsmeow oh
22:17 horar that's about 588 centimetres on a side, or 5.88 metres.
22:18 katsmeow i wonder how i was off by 4
22:18 horar 19 feet 3.5 inches
22:18 katsmeow yeas
22:18 horar call it 19 x 19 feet is the area that you'd cover
22:18 katsmeow so applying 1/4 inch of water from such a drum would cover 20x80ft ?
22:19 horar no i already converted to 1/4 inch.
22:19 horar 1 litre = 1000 cubic centimetres (a litre is 10 x 10 x 10 cm in volume)
22:19 katsmeow <blink>
22:19 horar therefore 208000 cubic centimetres.
22:20 horar 1/4 inch is 6 millimetres, hence 208000 x 10 / 6 to get the area that it would cover to 1/4 inch.
22:20 horar that's 346666.6... square centimetres 6 millimetres deep
22:20 katsmeow i have an agricultural problem i have not dealt with before: the ground here is sand, the grass roots are very shallow, and water drains very fast, there's no organic matter in the ground to speak of
22:21 RobotFamily i had the exact same problem in Minecraft
22:21 katsmeow so i need to measure the water over an area, and apply as needed, which may be as often as 5x a day in summer for young grasses
22:22 horar have you tried hydroponics?
22:22 RobotFamily aka automaded arduino sprinker system
22:22 katsmeow it's wierd to find the gound i drive on is "cold flowing" around the tires
22:22 katsmeow horar, a hydroponic yard?
22:23 horar i used to do a lot of hydroponics because we have a lot of eucalypt trees on our block and they poison the ground so other kinds of plants don't grow so well.
22:23 horar yes you can do something like that.
22:23 katsmeow essentailly, as fast as this drains, the ground is a throw-away non-recirculating hydroponic system
22:23 horar i was talking to one fellow who laid down sheets of polythene in wide shallow trenches and filled them with crushed shells.
22:24 horar but you can use coarse sand as your growth medium.
22:24 katsmeow and the crushed sjhells punctured the poly........
22:24 katsmeow hmmm
22:24 horar i used expanded clay balls, but raised up in wooden benches. they last a long time, but they are a little pricey.
22:24 horar http://asmith.id.au/hydroponics.html
22:24 katsmeow that is an interesting idea, tho i think i'd need something thicker than poly
22:24 horar you can get poly in different grades.
22:25 tsmeow saw your pages 10 yrs ago
22:25 horar they didn't exist 10 years ago :P
22:25 katsmeow 9 yrs ago?
22:25 horar but admittedly the photos are 10 years old. kind of lost interest when i got into robotics again.
22:26 katsmeow i did study your pages
22:26 RobotFamily yeah..if your not building a robot army, then your nobody
22:27 horar i've still got the asparagus growing, but i washed and dried all the clay balls and they're currently stored in 5 x 100 litre containers in the back of my office.
22:27 katsmeow <cough> "your" != "you are"
22:27 RobotFamily wow...grammer corrections...on the internet..really
22:27 katsmeow horar, what about palm trees, ground for their fiber?
22:28 katsmeow "grammar"
22:28 horar that's a good point. can you get coconut fibre there? coir i think it's called.
22:28 horar it makes a great growth medium too. i use it in self-watering pots.
22:28 horar you can buy it here compressed into little bricks.
22:28 RobotFamily perhaps you would correct the rest the the accepted english exceptions while your at it
22:28 katsmeow no, not coconut trees, these are purely decorative water-wasters, sometimes i can get take-downs for free
22:29 horar put one brick in a bucket of water and it expands and breaks up into 10 litres of nice smelling mulch.
22:30 horar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coir <-- yep, it's called coir. it's great to work with, though it does have to be replaced every few years.

22:36 RobotFamily http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykzrNkSwajo&feature=related
22:36 katsmeow horar, r19 over the R25
22:36 RobotFamily $29.99
22:36 katsmeow RobotFamily, i did NOT use those
22:36 RobotFamily ok
22:37 katsmeow look for the repeating pattern in my walls, go ahead
22:37 RobotFamily alright
22:37 RobotFamily so what did u use then
22:37 katsmeow my walls are min 8" thick at bottom, 3" thick cast at top, then heavy stucco to the roofline
22:39 RobotFamily what's the pricetag so far
22:39 katsmeow i used 4 diff panels, this shows 3 models : http://www.randgsupply.com/Warehouse/Skirting/rockskirting.htm#Panels
22:39 katsmeow for 2 or 3 yrs, some weeks i mixed and poured 120 bags, 80lbs each
22:40 RobotFamily cool
22:40 RobotFamily what's the price $1/ bag?
22:41 katsmeow http://lmgtfy.com

22:41 RobotFamily dam..
22:41 RobotFamily do u need to have steel gurders to reenforce?
22:41 RobotFamily or u use those steel rods right
22:41 katsmeow where do you get $18k ?
22:41 RobotFamily i did 3y * 52 * 120
22:42 katsmeow http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Materials-Concrete-Cement-Masonry-Mortar-Cement-Concrete-Mix/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbogd/R-100318511/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
22:42 katsmeow $3.55 per bag
22:42 katsmeow and i didn't mix 120 bags EVERY week
22:43 RobotFamily ok
22:44 RobotFamily so say 32k
22:44 RobotFamily that's still good
22:44 katsmeow i did burn out one transmission and break the rear springs on the Suburban 4 times
22:44 horar love what you've done with your website Kat.
22:44 katsmeow horao, i take things down as people insult them, i took down 3 pics this morning
22:44 RobotFamily kat, are you a women?
22:45 tsmeow looks at her c
22:45 katsmeow RobotFamily, are you drunk?
22:45 horar i would have thought that was all the more reason to leave them.
22:45 RobotFamily yeah i didn't tink a women could do all that either
22:45 katsmeow it's plain you don't think at all, RobotFamily
22:46 RobotFamily i'm trying to access the plausability of undertaking a project myself
22:46 horar work like yours would only be getting insulted by those were intimidated or jealous of your abilities.
22:46 horar lol, just read the bit about the other women in the area being afraid you'd steal their husbands.
22:47 horar that i could believe, but if they can't keep them they don't deserve them.
22:47 horar on the other hand, if they can't keep them, who'd want them.
22:47 katsmeow horar, the house work put a lot of wear on my body, i'm 55 yrs old now, and i am moving to get away from a neighbor there, i cannot enjoy the work i did there
22:48 horar yes i recall the problems that you were having with one particular neighbour. but didn't you say the authorities had finally caught him out and he'd lost his credibility?
22:49 katsmeow the top floor has a 16x16 den, the bathroom, elevator to bottom floor and roof, and a walk-in closet, PLUS the 24x48ft livingroom-kitchen (with it's 16ft wide walk-in bay window)
22:50 katsmeow he has, but they are still letting the dogs loose
22:50 katsmeow the judge says to shoot them
22:50 katsmeow hell of a life, carrying a gun every time i go outside, and killing dogs as needed, eh?
22:51 horar as a dog lover myself, i have nothing but contempt for those who don't take proper care of their dogs, and allowing them to be a nuisance to any degree is not taking proper care of them.
22:51 katsmeow no garden on the ground, etc
22:52 horar can you put hydroponics on your roof? from the photos it looked like it would be the perfect spot.
22:52 katsmeow can you imagine the conversation over there?? "i love my dogs, i think i'll turn them loose to go over and get shot"
22:52 katsmeow on the roof in Alabama, yeas, but not on this old mobilehome trailer
22:53 katsmeow they can get more dogs for $free, if i get arrested for shooting one, it's $200 to bail out of jail
22:53 horar ah now i get what you meant about being partly moved.
22:53 horar did you actually sell your place in alabama?
22:53 katsmeow they can wear me out financially, easily, and did that
22:53 katsmeow not yet, not going on the market till my stuff is out of it
22:54 katsmeow i'll not get what i put into it in materials, let alone labor
22:54 horar not unless you can find exactly the right buyer anyway.
22:54 horar that's often the problem with DIY stuff.
22:54 katsmeow one with money, in this economy
22:56 horar well i hope you'll sail over here once you move into your boat.
22:56 katsmeow top floor also has the 16x16 foyer
22:56 horar unlike the usa, this place still has an economy, plus you'd fit in perfectly in tasmania.
22:56 katsmeow the barn is to finish the boat in , among othe things
22:56 katsmeow i am too old to get permananet visa in Oz
22:56 horar true, but why would you want one?
22:57 katsmeow even with sponsor and job
22:57 katsmeow err, for money and fulfillment?
22:58 katsmeow no perm visa = no job, no buying land
22:58 katsmeow even leasing an acre on the water to park the boat next to
22:58 horar have you heard about that floating "country" that some rich dude is constructing?
22:58 katsmeow yeas, it's a floating hotel, a cruise ship
22:59 katsmeow and nothing has been done yet to accomplish it
22:59 horar no, this is different, he's actually trying to create a whole new nation that's entirely seaborne.
22:59 katsmeow seasteading.com ?
22:59 horar peter thiel is the name of the guy.
22:59 horar yes i think it is seasteading
22:59 katsmeow yeas
23:00 katsmeow hmm, site is down
23:00 horar i can get it here.
23:00 katsmeow ah, it's .org
23:00 horar http://seasteading.com/ works for me
23:01 katsmeow i get two different webpages .com vs .org
23:01 horar yes so do i.
23:01 katsmeow the .com is some site-builder advertisement page
23:01 horar i think the dot com one is a domain squatter.
23:02 horar the dot org site is the one that i was thinking of
23:02 katsmeow and the .org has a "pay me now" popup blocking the page
23:03 horar it does?
23:03 horar what browser are you using?
23:03 horar i just clicked it and it disappeared.
23:03 katsmeow i was using IE8, switching to ff now
23:03 katsmeow if it will launch ...........
23:04 katsmeow it won't launch, switching to k-melion
23:04 horar i meant to ask, have you tried making your own solar panels?
23:04 horar i know rifraf was making some at one point.
23:05 horar i got a bunch of solar cells on ebay and i've been experimenting with different ways of hooking them together.
23:05 katsmeow i bought 10 solar panels in 2005(?), i was threatened with dog attack if i put them up
23:05 horar main problem is they are so fragile and break so easily
23:06 katsmeow you need to mount and dope them before they absorb water along the edges too
23:06 katsmeow at least seal the edges
23:07 katsmeow humans were like "it generates electricity so it's noisey and will disturb the peace, and it's stealing from the power company so you're a theif and deserve to be bit by dogs"
23:09 katsmeow i could swear the powerco was killing power in town, for 5 secs, intentionally, so when power came back on all the ac units in businesses would be in locked rotor current, spiking their demand factor, yet when i suggested power manangement to avoid that, i was also told then i was immoral for trying to steal power
23:10 katsmeow i tried to explain all they had to do (for the cheap solution) was to time out the ac compressors a few minutes, then reconnect them 30sec apart, biggest unit first
23:11 katsmeow clueless humans
23:11 horar why even bother trying to help them?
23:12 katsmeow because if even one business did it, maybe i could make a few bucks off the next one, then branch into UPSs
23:12 horar what did you do with your solar panels?
23:13 katsmeow i ran some numbers that showed for what they were charging businesses there, it was cheaper to buy gasoline retail and run a genny in the back room
23:13 katsmeow they are stacked up in the living room in Alabama, in the dark
23:14 horar what did they cost you? i can get certified solar panels on ebay at the moment for less than $2 per watt, though i think those are introductory prices.
23:14 horar they're usually about $3 per watt.
23:14 horar i can't make up my own panels for less than about $2 per watt, and there's no way that they would be as good as factory built ones at that.
23:14 katsmeow "rated" 15watt panels, $65 plus s&h from china, remember it was yrs ago
23:15 katsmeow they are not worth that now, prices have dropped al ot
23:15 horar yes i know.
23:15 horar i got bare cells because i want to power one of my robots with them.
23:15 tsmeow
23:16 katsmeow riff went to a lot of trouble and expence for his, i hope he is using them and making money
23:16 horar i figure if i can make a pair of 60 watt panels for around $240 total it will have been worth it.
23:17 horar he did the usual clever things, like using second hand sliding glass doors as the frames. i expect his project worked out extremely well.
23:17 katsmeow i suggested that :-)
23:17 horar lol, good for you. i wish there were more like you, the world would be better for it.
23:17 katsmeow i have a set of such doors back in Alabama too
23:17 katsmeow i had plans
23:18 horar we all do
23:18 katsmeow *had* , not "do"
23:20 katsmeow the recycling center there took in aluminum-framed glass, i got the glass from most of it, so he didn't have broken glass everywhere, but i saved the glass doors intact, and some big glass freezer doors
23:21 katsmeow here, the recyclers don't allow browsing, and won't sell
23:21 horar i should post some pics of what i did on my website.
23:21 horar i did post one in my g+ stream already.
23:22 horar i just got a 40 watt soldering iron to work on the cells too. the 20 watt iron that i use for electronics isn't quite hot enough.
23:22 tsmeow
23:26 katsmeow i need to go food the cats outside
23:26 katsmeow one is still on antibiotics
23:26 katsmeow bbiaf
23:38 katsmeow .bak
