01:45 tobbor My watch says its 23:40 Sat Dec 31 2011
01:45 rue_house oooOOOooo
01:49 rue_house oh damn, my newyears resolutions
01:49 rue_house from last year!\
02:11 rue_house HAPPY NEW YEARS
02:11 rue_house R
02:11 rue_house ..
02:27 dunz0r It's been 2012 for nine hours here already, but happy new year rue_house :)
02:27 Triffid_Hunter 19 hours here :P
02:29 dunz0r I have three new years resolutions this year 1) Make more money(easy) 2) Build a really good sumobot(somewhat done) and 3) drink more wine than I did last year
02:30 rue_house I'm just going to use last years, 'find a human female companion'
02:31 rue_house not many on irc celebrating newyears this year
02:31 rue_house usually aint so quiet
02:32 rue_house I think the led is on PD6
05:11 KongfuPanda good morning robotics people!
05:12 Triffid_Hunter morning
05:26 Steffanx Happy 2012 KongfuPanda and the others
05:26 KongfuPanda Steffenx, thank you !!! happy 2012 to you too. May all your wishes come true !
05:26 Steffanx *SteffAnx
05:26 KongfuPanda Steffanx*
05:27 Steffanx :P
05:27 KongfuPanda Steffanx, did you show me your robot?
05:27 Steffanx Uhm, I only showed my ~5 year old robot once
05:27 KongfuPanda I see, what are you working on atm?
05:27 Steffanx Which was only a google sketch up image
05:28 Steffanx Nothing
05:28 Steffanx Something for 2012 :D
05:30 KongfuPanda yes, you should do something really cool
05:30 KongfuPanda and useful
05:30 KongfuPanda like a robot on solar power that can plant something and then take care of those plants
05:30 KongfuPanda so that you just leave it outside and it does all the job for you
10:38 dunz0r http://blog.trossenrobotics.com/2011/12/20/we-are-hiring-job-title-roboticist-apprentice-extraordinaire/ :o
10:41 KongfuPanda dunz0r, are you going to apply?
10:42 dunz0r KongfuPanda: I'm not even in the US... and I don't feel much like going there.
10:42 KongfuPanda dunz0r, where are you from, if not a secret?
10:42 dunz0r Might ask if they want a collaborator in sweden or something, haven't decided yet.
10:42 dunz0r KongfuPanda: Sweden.
10:42 KongfuPanda nice
10:43 dunz0r I've been contemplating trying to get more attention to hobby robotics in sweden for a while. The "scene" isn't that big :)
10:43 dunz0r But it's a small country, so not very strange.
10:44 dunz0r Or rather, not many people living in it.
10:45 KongfuPanda dunz0r, it's very difficult to find cheap parts for some reason..
10:45 KongfuPanda dunz0r, if you want a better than two wheel robot
10:52 dunz0r Not really. Ebay ftw :)
10:52 dunz0r I build a lot of my "parts" my self though.
10:55 dunz0r The only parts that are difficult to find cheap are good motors and good sensors
10:55 KongfuPanda dunz0r, yeah, I bought stuff from ebay... 1 month + wait, and it's bad quality. Probably 5/20 servos are mulfunctioning
10:56 dunz0r Ah. Haven't bought any servos of ebay yet.
10:56 dunz0r I purchased five HC-SR04s just today though
10:57 dunz0r As soon as they arrive I will have all the parts for a really good sumo robot \o/
10:57 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/sumo_files/sumo_new_index.php
10:58 dunz0r Four Lynxmotion GHM-03 motors(30:1, 291 RPM), four large grippy tires and my self designed(and quite cheap) H-bridges.
10:59 dunz0r And a small arduino clone I built.
10:59 dunz0r Might use my Arduino Mega instead, since it has more interrupts.
10:59 KongfuPanda dunz0r, why do you need so many? :D
11:00 dunz0r KongfuPanda: An Atmega328p just have two hardware interrupt pins actually. And with four edge-line-sensors that might be tricky
11:01 Tom_itx ir or mechanical?
11:01 Tom_itx i used ir to detect the edge
11:01 dunz0r Tom_itx: IR. TCRT5000 + LM311 + pots + etc, makes it easy to calibrate :)
11:01 KongfuPanda Tom_itx, has anyone ever used like a robot that uses suction to the floor with a shape of like a saucer. And when robot rides over it, it uses like compressed air or some mechanism to kick it in the air
11:02 dunz0r I like your desing. Very nice!:)
11:02 Tom_itx it's rather old
11:02 dunz0r KongfuPanda: I don't think suction is allowed. The "international" rules clearly state it.
11:02 dunz0r Magnets are allowed though.
11:02 Tom_itx waaaay back when i used pics
11:02 KongfuPanda dunz0r, oh I see. There are rules?
11:02 Tom_itx of course
11:03 dunz0r Well... yes. Otherwise you could just build something that had a large hammer that would smash the other robot or one that flies and wait for the other one to drive out of the ring etc.
11:03 KongfuPanda :D
11:03 Tom_itx make your own wheels
11:03 KongfuPanda yeah
11:03 dunz0r Tom_itx: I tried. Couldn't get a hold of any polyutherane :(
11:04 KongfuPanda how about causing high magnetic field to fry rival robot electronics and then scoop it ?
11:04 Tom_itx tapp plastics
11:04 dunz0r KongfuPanda: That's not allowed either.
11:04 KongfuPanda bah
11:04 dunz0r Your bot can not purposely hurt the other bot.
11:04 Tom_itx shore 30 iirc
11:04 Tom_itx mabye 20
11:04 Tom_itx i forget
11:05 KongfuPanda dunz0r, hmm, I want to build one of those robots too !
11:05 dunz0r Tom_itx: Yeah. That was what I was trying to find. I couldn't find anything that were sold in sane quantities.
11:05 Tom_itx i got a pint i think
11:05 Tom_itx or 2 halfpints
11:05 dunz0r It was either so much shipping it was silly or like buy ten litres or more
11:05 dunz0r And that's a bit to pricey.
11:05 KongfuPanda Tom_itx, do you have a video of your robot fighting yet?
11:06 dunz0r KongfuPanda: Sumos are a great "start" really. A "bad" sumo-bot isn't very hard to build, you can build one for under 100$ probably
11:06 KongfuPanda dunz0r, cool cool. I might do that next summer.
11:07 KongfuPanda dunz0r, did I tell you about my current hexapod robot?
11:07 dunz0r A good one can take as much time as you like and be all over engineered and wonderful
11:07 dunz0r KongfuPanda: No you didn't. Please do!
11:07 dunz0r Tom_itx: Where did you buy your plastic btw?
11:07 Tom_itx tap plastics
11:07 KongfuPanda dunz0r, anyway, it's a bit rubbish and it's my first robot: http://read-stuff-here.blogspot.com/ . Still work in progress :D
11:09 Tom_itx http://www.tapplastics.com/
11:09 dunz0r KongfuPanda: I like it.
11:09 KongfuPanda dunz0r, ebay robot :D I'm currently replacing servos , because the jitter and noise is mostly due to bad quality servos (SG9 ebay). And also adding more screws to make the joints less flexible
11:10 dunz0r Tom_itx: Thanks! Didn't find in all those hours I spent googling :)
11:10 dunz0r KongfuPanda: What controller are you using?
11:10 Tom_itx http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=63&
11:10 dunz0r Ah. An AVR I can see now.
11:11 Tom_itx that's shore A30
11:12 KongfuPanda dunz0r, it's like a pre-built one. AXON II from society of robots. I didn't want to bother with low-level programming and stuff :D I study Physics and we did a few electronics workshops, from making opamps to entering assembler code to a primitive computer.. BUt I don't have time for that kinda stuff now. If I studied EE or robotics I would do it
11:13 dunz0r An AVR with C isn't THAT lowlevel really :)
11:14 dunz0r Woopsie daisy. Tap Plastics want me to pay 157$ in shipping, for 33$ worth of products D:
11:14 KongfuPanda dunz0r, well, I don't have to bother with servo timings . It's done with Webbotlib : a library that provides interface to AXON 2
11:14 dunz0r I don't have to either :D
11:14 Tom_itx yeah you better find a local chemical dump to buy from
11:14 dunz0r The Wiring language <3
11:14 dunz0r Tom_itx: Yeah. I think I should. Thank you for the tip.
11:15 Tom_itx it was a fun project
11:16 dunz0r I already have wheels for this bot though. But they were a tad expensive :/
11:17 dunz0r These: http://www.lynxmotion.com/p-112-green-dot-sumo-tire-288d-x-15w-pair.aspx
11:17 dunz0r Damn, they have much grip :)
11:18 Tom_itx probably on the order of shore A20
11:18 Tom_itx which is a bit goopy
11:18 dunz0r I think it might be good with a lot of softness. I plan to use harddrive-magnets to generate downforce
11:18 Tom_itx or spongy like slotcar tires
11:19 dunz0r Yeah. They're a bit spongy.
11:19 Tom_itx which are more foam
11:19 dunz0r But not as much as slot car tires.
11:20 dunz0r http://www.lynxmotion.com/images/html/tirecomp.htm more detailed test of the compression
11:20 dunz0r As you se in figure 2, 10lbs of force doesn't compress them that heavily.
11:23 dunz0r Just need to cut out the chassis parts now.
11:29 dunz0r Got a big plate of 1mm aluminium for that, which I got for free \o/

17:58 Kimlaroux doing your inventory?
18:48 rue_shop need to know wath they all are
18:51 Kimlaroux That's always fun, until you cap your limit on datasheet catalog ;)
19:59 rue_house I have my own repository
20:04 Tom_itx whats up tonight?
20:15 rue_house looking for adc's for my usb audio project
20:22 rue_house besides, most of the datasheets I can get thru digikey
22:14 Kimlaroux digikey have a datasheet base? Is it available trough their website?
22:15 Tom_itx most of their parts have data sheets in the description
22:15 Kimlaroux Wow I never noticed... thanks for the tip
23:53 rue_shop so I made myself a pile of cdrom baords to get some descent dac's
23:57 rue_shop ok first chip
23:57 rue_shop lc78815m
23:58 Kimlaroux cdrom boards?
23:58 rue_shop yup
23:58 rue_shop the audio dac's on them
23:58 rue_shop for my usb audio device
23:58 Kimlaroux ... I got a pile of CD players here, never tought about recycling the DACs in them
23:59 rue_shop 2ch 16bit
23:59 rue_shop up to 400Khz
23:59 Kimlaroux that's quite impressive
