08:11 tobbor This one: http://rueshouse.dyndns.org:82/~ircjunk/irclogs/html/%23robotics-2011-11-20.html
15:08 Daani is it a good approach to use an arduino board and a wifi module togheter for the "heart" of a robot? why I am asking is because of the size and power consumption
15:10 zhanx i have
15:12 Daani you have?
15:12 zhanx yep
15:12 zhanx also used a router on a robot
15:20 Daani ah I see :D
15:21 zhanx router to ethernetshield to arduino
15:21 Daani so the arduino controls all the peripherals and the wifi module communicate with the arduino?
15:21 zhanx plus later i was gonna do a wifi camera but got lazy
15:21 Daani what is an ethernetshield? been seeing it more and more when Im reading about this
15:21 zhanx allows the arduino on the internet
15:22 Daani does'nt a wifi module allow the arduino on the internet?
15:22 Tom_itx you need an ethernet chip
15:22 zhanx it does
15:23 Daani wifi module -> microcontroller -> arduino?
15:23 zhanx wifi module -> arduino?
15:23 Daani oh sorry.
15:23 Daani I am interested in OpenPicus FlyPort WIFI Module
15:24 Daani ever tried that?
15:24 zhanx nope
15:25 zhanx heck with that you dont need an arduino
15:27 Daani what do you mean?
15:27 Daani aah! but it is not optimal for controlling peripherals?
15:27 zhanx why not its got 22 pins on it
15:28 zhanx all digital but still
15:29 zhanx 22 pins beats the arduino
15:31 zhanx Daani, that board is nice, grab the usb daughter board and be happy if you have yet to buy stuff
15:31 Daani okay. haha
15:31 Daani usb daughter board?
15:31 zhanx http://www.openpicus.com/cms/flyport.html
15:32 zhanx scroll to the bottom
15:33 Daani USB Nest?
15:33 zhanx they have a fancy name for it
15:34 Daani I am not sure if I understand the "neccessery" use of it?
15:34 zhanx what is your skill level
15:34 zhanx i.e can you make that board or is this your first project / somewhere in between
15:35 Daani somewhere in between
15:35 zhanx ok so it has the ftdi chip on the board so you dont need to use your own, and you know screw connectors make faster prototyping
15:37 Daani I see. it also supports easier powering and programming
15:37 zhanx oh Tom_itx i blew away ubuntu went straight debain today
15:37 zhanx yes
15:37 zhanx makes life easier
15:37 zhanx less hair pulling and crap like that
15:37 zhanx plus its a PIC not and AVR chip fyi
15:38 zhanx its not arduino code compatible (*maybe havent looked at the ide*)
15:38 Daani I am used to microchip so PIC suit me better :)
15:39 Daani but I have heard arduino is really smooth to work with
15:39 zhanx its easy yes
15:40 Daani it is really good this OpenPicus comes with a bootloader so I don't need a programmer
15:41 zhanx i an thinking about getting one later on
15:41 Daani but I wonder how is it powered, there is no power supply socket
15:42 zhanx 5v via usb
15:42 zhanx or 5v from your supply
15:42 zhanx the board has labels on it
15:43 Daani oh yeah, could wish the usb daughter board had a adapter connection :P
15:43 Daani an*
15:43 zhanx you might have the option on it
16:12 zhanx rue_shop, what linuix flavor you running
16:18 Tom_itx debian
16:19 zhanx debian hates me
16:19 zhanx on my 3rd attempt to install
16:19 zhanx its weird
16:19 Steffanx Debian hates me too, it failed to install in a vm
16:19 Steffanx A second try it did work
16:20 zhanx the only deb base install i got to work was ubuntu
16:20 zhanx i might go bad to mandrake
16:20 Steffanx Hehe
16:20 Steffanx OpenSuse :P
16:20 zhanx thought about it
16:21 Steffanx Anyway, gn :)
17:28 zhanx rue can i step on my laptop
18:01 thefinal someone know a reseller of track like these ones? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBgKi00d3SA
18:02 HylianSavior looking on robotshop.com never hurts
18:52 rue_house zhanx, why do you want to step on another laptop?
18:53 Tom_itx bak
18:53 rue_house hmm I dont thnk that tracked robot is small
18:53 zhanx azAQAaaQXDZSqawesb vzasQW Vqqrtgfbvcdesw21qwq56t67,;.l/l78uo9i;.l90po/.;o0?>-0?p=-[0"?-0=]["

18:53 rue_house hell no
18:53 rue_house those are 18Ah batteries
18:54 zhanx ][=-[';[p098ukj,mj5rtghbngewcvfqwbcv dtgfr ,mhjuykjil./.*
18:54 rue_house and those are disability motors
18:54 rue_house that thing is damn big
18:54 zhanx +-crAP
18:54 zhanx whiped off my keyboard
18:55 rue_house zhanx, problem?
18:56 rue_house oh those are 22Ah, gizzard, that means their even bigger
18:59 zhanx ok all clean
19:01 zhanx 2.9+568.32
19:01 zhanx 039+568.30
19:01 zhanx 256+.2032

19:01 zhanx lkjhfdsaZXB HNM,.3
19:01 zhanx MISSED A spot
19:04 zhanx ok done
19:11 rue_house zhanx, suppose you cant make 96 glue-on strain guages dissapear from somewhere eh?
19:11 zhanx not really
19:11 rue_house damn
19:11 zhanx need a 400 amp gen?
19:12 zhanx 24v
19:12 rue_house no, only have a 200 amp transfer switch
19:13 rue_house hmm the thought of having to build 94 tension sensors seems heavy...
19:14 rue_house maybe I could commercialize them and sell extras to make up for the extra cost
20:54 coppermine are the plans from nasa's mars rover publicly available somewhere?
20:54 coppermine to learn from
20:56 Tom_itx i'm sure they're in a russian publication somewhere for you
20:56 Tom_itx i seriously doubt it
20:56 coppermine russians have not sent rovers on mars
20:57 coppermine i like the bogie-rocker drive system they use
20:57 coppermine its like almost fail proof
20:57 Tom_itx it's been copied
20:57 coppermine except for that one rover stuck for a while now :)
20:58 coppermine they are launching the next mars rover next saturday
20:58 coppermine its alot bigger
20:58 coppermine and not solar powered
20:58 Tom_itx i wondered where my tax dollars were going
21:01 zhanx too me
21:03 Tom_itx something i said?
21:04 Tom_itx ok rue_house
21:04 Tom_itx blink test loaded on both of em
21:11 Tom_itx i did remember i added a 3v option to the U4, a regulator on the bottom but i didn't install it
21:12 Tom_itx if you want one you better add it to your order
21:12 Tom_itx i'll have to recall what reg it was
21:13 Tom_itx yeah digikey still has em
21:13 Tom_itx .56 ea
21:15 Tom_itx http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/MCP1825S-3302E%2FDB/MCP1825S-3302E%2FDB-ND/1636103
21:16 Tom_itx needs a 1 uf 0603 ceramic cap on it
21:23 tinyClark If anyone is familiar with tablets, I am looking for a windows 7 tablet with 3G. Anyone know where i can find a good tablet?
