01:21 AM Deejay: moin
02:56 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> big_kevin420@: DRV8313 + as5600
02:57 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> https://docs.simplefoc.com/simplefocmini
06:17 AM Tom_L: morning
06:49 AM JT-Cave: it's amazing that every workbench video claims to be the best LOL
07:46 AM JT-Cave: I don't see the point of a drop down miter saw bench unless you have a stop block in a T track but a riser with a T track would be more versatile usage of the bench
08:05 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP7AVmdyzlM
08:05 AM JT-Cave: I like that idea
09:02 AM rdtsc: meisterdippel, wonder if the SimpleFOCMini and a Mesa board could be married, such that a simple open-loop step/dir stepper output could be converted to a closed-loop BLDC output...
09:04 AM rdtsc: JT, I watched hundreds of videos to arrive at a decision on an electronics bench... extruded aluminum. quite expensive and still in-process (building the mill, to cut the oak panels which slide into the benchtop...)
09:05 AM JT-Shop: nice
09:05 AM rdtsc: classic case of Solitaire where all you need to win is a single Ace of Spades, yet it's buried somewhere :)
09:05 AM JT-Shop: I'm trying to be as versatile as possible with the bench
09:06 AM JT-Shop: the main thing is to move the bench tools off of the 1500 pound steel workbench and get rid of it to open up some space
09:07 AM rdtsc: if you wanted to check out extruded aluminum, see https://framingtech.com - was able to give them prints with complex miters and angled counterbores and they had no problem custom-machining it
09:08 AM JT-Shop: I've built a few assembly machine guards with 80/20
09:08 AM rdtsc: it's good stuff; this is cheaper :)
09:08 AM JT-Shop: with 80/20 being a generic name for extruded aluminum :)
09:09 AM rdtsc: well there is https://8020.net but then it's premium
09:17 AM rdtsc: roycroft is prolly your best springboard then; sounds like he's got more than one lifetime of experience in it
09:24 AM JT-Cave: I actually have a mobile workbench with a back board that holds most of my clamps and it's frame is a bit of Bosch convayor extruded aluminum
09:26 AM rdtsc: nice :)

10:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Someday I will be organized...
10:07 AM Tom_L: don't empty the shelf or it may tip over backwards
10:11 AM JT-Shop: lol
12:45 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:58 PM roycroft: well, i just made an executive decision to mount the rpi4 for my mini-router outside the controller cabinet, both because of the hassle of bringing the signal ports from the rpi to the rear panel and because i'll get better wifi performance that way (wifi will be on a private network that does not route to the internet, so it should be fairly secure)
12:58 PM * roycroft likes taking his time and simplifying things
12:58 PM xxcoder: cant just wire up attenta to outside case?
01:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol,..
01:00 PM xxcoder: I know. I know. I cant spell worth a damn
01:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> no.. lol. It isn't all about you! 😉
01:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> roycroft: https://photos.app.goo.gl/PpBPGNjEr3vWTLWK8
01:01 PM xxcoder: ah lol ok
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it has been that way for years now
01:01 PM xxcoder: certainly can see it lol
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it was going to get mounted to the vesa mount.. but that ship has sailed
01:02 PM xxcoder: aw it wasted the ticket ;)
01:02 PM roycroft: that's yet another cabling setup, xcoder
01:03 PM xxcoder: true but then it wont be exposed rpi
01:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have usb and ethernet on the electrical box.
01:03 PM * Tom_L blames skunkworks.
01:03 PM Tom_L: i've been out last couple days cleaning out the shop
01:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - sorry
01:03 PM xxcoder: cleaning bug have spread!
01:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I am sitting here - getting up the energy to move the hydraulic unit outside..
01:03 PM roycroft: i've been testing the mini-router with the rpi for my bigger router, which i haven't built yet of course, that is on a din rail mount
01:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it is spring
01:04 PM roycroft: but i have a brand new rpi4b that i was going to use for a shop project which i haven't done yet, and i printed a nice enclosure for it that has a couple screw mounting holes
01:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but the chains are at the top of the hill - So I need to run up there..
01:05 PM roycroft: i can just move the microsd card to that, and when i build the controller enclosure i can make a pocket in a corner of it to mount the rpi on the outside
01:05 PM roycroft: footprint will remain the same, but the rpi will be outside instead of inside
01:06 PM xxcoder: thats cool
01:06 PM roycroft: the only thing i would need to bring inside the controller is an ethernet cable, and i already have a panel-mount ethernet jack with pigtail
01:06 PM * roycroft has gardening work to do today
01:07 PM roycroft: i have an afternoon's work to do, but given that my back is sore today from doing not much yesteray, i think i'll split the chore over two days
01:07 PM roycroft: i have shop work to do today as well, that won't be as taxing on my back
01:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/XvNpGLD7NZ4V3XneA
01:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think that is running off the mean well power supply internally
01:09 PM * roycroft spent the morning doing some dnssec reconfiguration, and thinks he's had enough geek work for the day
01:10 PM roycroft: i would like to spend a couple hours doing some cad work later on
01:10 PM roycroft: hopefully i'll be feeling up to that this evening
01:11 PM roycroft: but now that the mini-router is semi-alive, i really want to focus on getting that thing fully functional
01:11 PM roycroft: which will require some different cad work to what i need to do tonight
01:12 PM roycroft: and i have no good sense yet how messy that machine will be, but i cannot make messes in my studio, so after the controller chassis design is done i have to think about an enclosure for the router part, so all the chips and dust stay inside
01:12 PM roycroft: it would be nice if the enclosure would also provide some sound insulation
01:13 PM roycroft: i do not have high hopes for anything significant there, though
01:13 PM roycroft: but if i can get 3 or 6dB sound reduction that would help
01:13 PM Tom_L: roycroft, you should get a rpi5 for the cnc
01:13 PM roycroft: maybe eventually
01:14 PM Tom_L: aparently it's alot better
01:14 PM roycroft: at least for the bigger one
01:14 PM Tom_L: right
01:14 PM roycroft: for the mini-router, i'll see how it goes with the rpi4
01:14 PM roycroft: as long as it's not doing anything else while it's controlling the router it might be fine
01:15 PM roycroft: i do not intend to keep my cnc controller computers connected to the internet at all while they are doing their job as cnc controllers - the internet will just be for doing updates and perhaps downloading the occasional file
01:15 PM roycroft: so as long as i treat it as an embedded system i might be fine
01:16 PM xxcoder: indeed
01:16 PM roycroft: but i have other uses for rpi4s, so if i need to upgrade i can repurpose the old devices
01:16 PM roycroft: i just don't see any point in preemptive upgrades
01:16 PM roycroft: i'll do so on an as-needed basis
01:17 PM * roycroft decides to go outside and get things done in the garden and the shop
01:17 PM roycroft: the sun is out and it's a beautiful, albeit a little cool, day
01:29 PM Tom_L: nice here as well
01:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> oof - that hydraulic unit must be just over 2 tons.. The tractor would not lift it either.. Had to roll the bucket
03:03 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Lol - 1 ton
03:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 2000lbs
03:15 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:15 PM * JT-Cave wonders what to do with the copy of RedHat 7.1???
03:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
03:16 PM JT-Cave: 2001
03:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't want to go back.. You can't make me!
03:35 PM JT-Shop: that was my first attempt to get emc to run
03:36 PM * bjorkint0sh still has flashbacks from RH 5.0
03:36 PM JT-Shop: but it failed because I was not a programmer and must have been brain dead
03:36 PM bjorkint0sh: it was so awful that the next best thing was freebsd.
03:37 PM bjorkint0sh: I then used freebsd for a very long time until I was persuaded to switch to Ubuntu.
03:37 PM xxcoder: red hat was first linux I successfully installed, but it wasnt desktop os in any respect
03:37 PM xxcoder: it comr with book lol
03:37 PM xxcoder: I didnt try linux till few years later with ubuntu
03:39 PM JT-Shop: I can't remember the first version of DOS I had but it was on an 8086
03:42 PM bjorkint0sh: I remember mine distinctly. 3.1 on a 286
03:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/eNmbTgoqbwNgroCM7
03:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> get that together and then sell it.
03:43 PM xxcoder: windows 3.11 on 386 sx 33 mhz
03:43 PM xxcoder: none of that math coprocessor crap
03:43 PM xxcoder: honestly I mostly used dos games etc, few window games
03:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> same - I put just enough memory so it could actually do multitasking..
03:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> It ran the K&T and allowed it to tape emulate while editing the programs
03:44 PM bjorkint0sh: heh. that's a very busy looking shop, skunkworks. are you ever not working?
03:45 PM roycroft: he's never working
03:45 PM roycroft: he is always cleaning
03:45 PM xxcoder: thats working on being able to work
03:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't work too hard...
03:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but I use the manic episodes as much as I can.. 😉
03:54 PM * roycroft just came in from the shop for a minute, and is now off to do some gardening work
04:06 PM rdtsc: building the rpi into my machine, along with everything else. got an industrial USB 2.0 hub - everything connects to that, including a wifi dongle - 10ft from Rpi - works great
04:07 PM rdtsc: configuration wasn't that hard... dongle had to have a special driver though
04:07 PM rdtsc: thanks to FlexGUI, have some tiny python code linked to buttons to disable wifi dongle and Ethernet, as well as reboot and shutdown
04:10 PM rdtsc: hoping to have FlexGUI be the only thing ever needed on the machine - no keyboard or mouse at all
04:10 PM JT-Shop: 152643
04:11 PM Tom_L: your verification code has been validated
04:11 PM JT-Shop: lol
04:12 PM JT-Shop: yippee a happy Flex GUI user
04:16 PM Tom_L: once someone posted a pic of something and their wallet was open exposing full CC info....
04:16 PM Tom_L: that was a long time ago
04:16 PM JT-Shop: holy crap batman
04:18 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> sounds like something I would do
05:46 PM roycroft: aah, basic culinary herbs are all planted
05:46 PM roycroft: that's a major step forward settling into the new house
05:47 PM roycroft: i'm not used to having to use dried herbs (except for some in the winter) or buying tiny sprigs of herbs for obscene amounts of money at a market
05:47 PM roycroft: i'm used to walking outside and cutting what i need
05:48 PM roycroft: i put some basil in last year, and brought my rosemary bush from the old house, but that's all i had last year
05:50 PM * roycroft bought a few springs of semi-wilted parsley last night and thought that was ridiculous
05:50 PM roycroft: it was $1.99 for that
05:58 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
05:59 PM xxcoder: man english ivy is really growing, so does permision plant
06:00 PM xxcoder: strawberry is doing great! was worried when it almost wilted literally a day after bring it in
06:00 PM xxcoder: just needed good re-pot and water and its going off very well under the grow lights
06:12 PM * roycroft is taking a break on the recliner with the heating pad before heading off to work on the shop project
06:37 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/kLgPW2672s4 interesting video
08:30 PM BorgPipe: https://netpipe.ca/?p=7868 trioxin-300 formula ?
