12:44 AM Deejay: moin
01:12 AM mrec: how do you guys manage your tools? In that machining company tools are just thrown together it seems.
01:38 AM lcnc-relay: <snapemone@> How do you mean?
05:09 AM Tom_L: morning
05:54 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
07:00 AM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> morning.
07:02 AM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> hey i have a quick q about limit switches.
07:02 AM lcnc-relay: on my 7i96 i want to put mechanical limit switches.
07:02 AM lcnc-relay: i tried connecting NC to mesa pin 0 and C to mesa gnd pin. also tried inverting it buit nothing worked, should i connect the NC of the mech switch to 5V instead?
07:03 AM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> i read that the inputs are optically isolated, but dont want to risk it before i find whether someone else knows
07:10 AM JT-Cave: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/media/kunena/attachments/26845/Mesa7i96-IO.png
08:42 AM JT-Cave: the most annoying thing about the relay is you don't know if the person is even still there when you answer
09:04 AM rdtsc: caveats about mesa: outputs are MOSFET switches, so OUT+ must always be more positive than OUT- (otherwise the body diode conducts and it seems like it cannot "open") - can invert the state in .hal if needed
09:04 AM rdtsc: and inputs: 5-24VDC or so, each has a fairly low resistance or impedance, and state can also be inverted in .hal if needed - generally "safety" inputs are normally "on" and trigger on opening, so that a broken wire or switch will stop the machine.
09:09 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I am still here 🙂
09:17 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, right but it should still be in their history
09:28 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Lol - well - that worked. I put 2 filing cabinates and a table at the end of the driveway.. The cabinates were gone isntantly - the table was gone this moring
09:58 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> hi
10:01 AM Tom_L: skunkworks, that's how i get rid of alot of 'stuff'
10:02 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> we are way out in the country - but there is still a lot traffic..
10:03 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 'enough' anyway
10:03 AM roycroft: hi folks
10:04 AM roycroft: living at the end of a cul de sac, leaving things out at the end of the driveway is unlikely to make things disappear for me
10:04 AM roycroft: unless there's a cl ad to go along with them
10:05 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I did that too - but I don't know if that helped or not
10:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Just marked it as 'sold
10:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> '
10:09 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: got a wood working question for you. I have an old dresser drawer. It's probably from the 30's or 40's. decent condition. I just fixed one of the drawers. It's Mennonite. anyway, I'd like to clean up the finish a bit. thinking something really lite..... any ideas??????
10:10 AM roycroft: i would start with a damp microfiber cloth
10:10 AM roycroft: just the cloth and a bit of water
10:11 AM roycroft: i don't know the condition so it's hard to make a recommendation beyond that right now
10:13 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I'm considering something as simple as Pledge, spray on, to clean and polish a bit
10:13 AM roycroft: i would avoid pledge like the plague
10:14 AM roycroft: all that will do is trap the dirt and gunk below an ugly surface that's hard to remove
10:16 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think I have a 1X12 peice of mahagany...
10:17 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> maybe 12ft long
10:17 AM roycroft: if the moist rag doesn't clean it up, try a little murphy's oil soap on the rag
10:18 AM roycroft: the key is to be light and gentile
10:18 AM roycroft: when it's cleaned up, i've again not seen it, so it would be hard to recommend a finish
10:19 AM roycroft: i'm guessing that when you repaired the drawer there are visible signs of the repair that need to be blended in to the existing finish
10:28 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: hey, thanks for the tips..... I do have some Murphy's. the drawer repair was all internal, out of site....
10:28 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> get the recliner yet ????
10:28 AM roycroft: yes
10:29 AM roycroft: and the kittens are ok with it now - they were freaked out at first
10:29 AM roycroft: but it's not so scary as it was
10:29 AM roycroft: and they are happy, because i am sitting in it right now
10:29 AM roycroft: usually in the morning i hang out in my office (out of bounds for them) while having coffee and checking emails
10:30 AM roycroft: but now i'm in the living room doing that stuff while enjoying the new recliner
10:31 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> cool. relax in it...
10:31 AM roycroft: it's really nice
10:31 AM roycroft: i need to shift position every 20 minutes or so
10:32 AM roycroft: now i can do that by pushing buttons
10:32 AM roycroft: i don't have to get up and move
10:32 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> there ya go. it will really help the recovery
10:33 AM roycroft: it's also better looking than the old futon sofa, and takes up less space
10:33 AM roycroft: so the living room layout is much improved
10:33 AM roycroft: i ended up getting a recliner love seat, not chair
10:34 AM roycroft: and it was a discontinued model, so i got it for less than half price
10:48 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> it's there, it's paid for, it's comfortable, it's good....
11:06 AM * roycroft is content
01:21 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> skunkworks8841@: the road give-th and the road take-th . i love when its gone before i reach the house
01:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I didn't really think it would work so well lol
01:25 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> what really sucks is when they deposit something they didn't have room for in order to take your item...
01:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - I bet that happens too
01:41 PM rdtsc: gotten rid of lots this way... old dryer with piece of paper on it "Free, gas, does not heat well" - gone in four hours
01:47 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> if there is any steel in things - they will just go
01:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (lots of scrappers around here)
01:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (dad got so tired of people stopping to see if they could take the bailer - that he finally parked it up the valley.. It is still there)
02:40 PM JT-Mobile: I decided to make the bench free standing
02:43 PM JT-Mobile: What's the best height for bench for bench tools
03:03 PM jdh: Anyone know how to trace underground lines outside? I have a 220v circuit that is supposed to go to a pump somewhere but I have no idea where it goes.
03:04 PM JT-Mobile: I have a circuit tracer but don't know if it has much range
03:06 PM xxcoder: blendy hacks. new name for blondihacks by autocaptions lol
03:06 PM xxcoder: jd hmm wonder if field current detector would work, but soil probably isulates it well
03:06 PM jdh: I got a cheap tracer, it stops signalling a foot away
03:07 PM jdh: whatever is out there has a couple ohms and pulls about 7 amps. breaker says sprinkler pump, but the sprinkler system is hooked up to city water.
03:07 PM JT-Mobile: Hook 480v to it and look for the smoke signal
03:20 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> @JT you need to figure out your working height and how long you intend to be standing there. one of my benches is too low for constant standing work and it hurts the shoulders and neck
03:20 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> but its a good height for a stool
03:21 PM JT-Mobile: Drill press sander etc so just a few minutes
03:31 PM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> https://www.youtube.com/shorts/L-D2a9atD_0 😎
03:32 PM xxcoder: testing spindle?
03:33 PM xxcoder: or is that a servo
03:34 PM xxcoder: amazing blondihack. parts is boring, so she had QA voiceover
03:38 PM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> Brushless-Servo
03:41 PM xxcoder: cool :)
03:47 PM Tom_L: standard counter height is 36"
03:48 PM Tom_L: standard workbench height is between 34 and 36"
04:32 PM xxcoder: interesting. when I bought strawberry plant, it was pretty floppy. but once I moved it to good pot with soil, it perked up by a lot.
04:47 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> meisterdippel@: is that one of those drv drivers?
05:36 PM roycroft: eek - we have a frost warning for tonight
05:36 PM xxcoder: stay fosty
05:36 PM xxcoder: frosty
05:37 PM roycroft: i think i'll be ok - it should only get down to 3 or so here in town - but i might cover up my basil plants anyway
05:37 PM roycroft: they are extremely frost sensitive, and i just planted them last week, so they're also even more tender than when they're better established
05:38 PM roycroft: i have lots of old bedsheets, which is all i would need, but they're all in storage
05:39 PM roycroft: i was wondering last weekend if it's not a wee bit early to be planting basil, but the nurseries are usually out of it by mid-may
05:39 PM roycroft: i figured i should get it while i can
05:39 PM roycroft: i usually grow my own starts from seed, but i'm not set up for that here yet - i need to plant in january under lights and on a heating pad
05:40 PM roycroft: i do have a 55 gallon barrel full of wood chips/dust
05:41 PM roycroft: if i cover them with that it should protect them, and then i can spread the chips out for mulch
05:42 PM xxcoder: I grow my plants indoors with nice grow lights
05:43 PM xxcoder: all plants besides avocodo is growing well
05:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> uh hu...
05:43 PM xxcoder: avocodo grows extremely slowly
05:43 PM xxcoder: skunk sorry I dont grow any of certain herb, as I dont use em
05:45 PM xxcoder: its legal to grow em here but yeah
05:46 PM roycroft: oregon legalized small amounts of all drugs a years ago
05:46 PM roycroft: fortunately that was realized as a mistake, and it got rolled back a bit
05:47 PM roycroft: i don't think that posessing a small amount of a drug for personal use should be criminal, but it should not be totally legal for all drugs
05:47 PM roycroft: there should at least be a civil fine for some drugs
05:48 PM roycroft: i'm more of the mind that using a drug should not be criminal
05:48 PM roycroft: but if you do something bad while on the drug there should be enhanced charges for the bad thing
07:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> beautiful day today
07:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> decking back in..
07:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/s5vCcPKmmN5WNu2dA
07:12 PM xxcoder: all decked out
07:20 PM roycroft: with no place to go
10:10 PM roycroft: i'm making stuffed shells for dinner tonight - i haven't made them in a long time and i forgot how much prep work there is and how long it takes
10:10 PM roycroft: so dinner will be at 9 tonight, later than i can remeber in a long time
10:10 PM roycroft: and much later than i prefer
10:11 PM xxcoder: lol. mine was opposite. extremely easy prep. instant noodles. just boil water, pour it in bowl with em and done
10:12 PM roycroft: i was also out in the shop fairly late, so i got a late start
10:12 PM roycroft: but it's all good now
11:50 PM BorgPipe is now known as NetPipe
