12:28 AM mrec: I will show some photos of the shop.
12:43 AM xxcoder: plenty of oxide
12:48 AM mrec: I feel like the previous operator of this CNC was like ... hey boss I cannot find that 15mm roughing endmill, can you order a new one
12:48 AM mrec: While there were like 20 of those roughing endills lying around in boxes
12:49 AM xxcoder: oh boy lol
12:52 AM mrec: https://i.snipboard.io/8MznrP.jpg
01:55 AM mrec: how much do you guys buy BT40 ER20 toolholders?
01:56 AM xxcoder: amazing collection of iron oxide
03:45 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram@> was it the minimum touch screen size with a raspberry?
03:45 AM lcnc-relay: My 7" 800x480 is not enough, the whole window doesnt fit and the only solution found yet is not very conveniant
04:25 AM jfsimon1981a is now known as jfsimon

05:16 AM Deejay: hi
06:47 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
07:13 AM rdtsc-w: mrec, I'd investigate the legality of all the shop details before doing anything else - would hate to fix everything up then someone takes it out from underneath you.
07:20 AM bjorkintosh: goodness. mrec you'll first need a thorough 6S-ing of the entire shop!
07:22 AM JT-Cave: I want to build some benches to go in my 6' wide 2' deep shelves for bench tools but I'm not sure how I want to do it
07:23 AM JT-Cave: I'm thinking of a 2x4 frame screwed to the studs with 2x4 legs on the outboard edge
07:23 AM JT-Cave: probably have 2 shelves above the tools for storage
08:03 AM rdtsc-w: how much weight? perhaps steel extrusion and plate (seems to be all the rage, but imagine it's pricey)
08:04 AM JT-Cave: not much weight, just bench tools... trying to get rid of the 1500 pound table I have now
08:05 AM JT-Cave: I have 4 steel tables two with 1" tops and one with 1/2" top and they all need to go
08:05 AM rdtsc-w: dang, if I had a shop they'd be sold :)
08:06 AM JT-Cave: I'll keep my welding table which has the holes for hold downs
08:34 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I need a welding table
09:14 AM roycroft: hi folks
09:15 AM roycroft: a 1x4 frame would probably be fine, with the 2x4 legs
09:15 AM bjorkintosh: how're you healing, roycroft?
09:15 AM roycroft: i'm doing better every day
09:16 AM roycroft: getting up this morning i was a little dizzy, but that's something that i'm just going to have to live with, for a while at least
09:30 AM roycroft: my recliner will be delivered today, and i think that will make a big difference
09:33 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have a dumpster full of wood coming today!
09:33 AM roycroft: to what end?
09:34 AM roycroft: heat? making stuff?
09:50 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> heat.
09:50 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> next winter
09:51 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> gives mom something to do. (stack the wood) she says she loves doing that.
10:05 AM roycroft: nice
10:05 AM roycroft: and getting it now will help ensure it's good and dry by heating season
10:05 AM roycroft: plus she'll have all summer to stack it
10:12 AM JT-Shop: now I forgot why I came in here...
10:16 AM bjorkintosh: JT-Shop: you just traveled into a parallel dimension, that's why :-D
10:16 AM bjorkintosh: give it time, the memories will merge.
10:24 AM roycroft: this is a dimension of imagination. it's an area which we call the twilight zone
10:24 AM roycroft: do-do-do-do do-do-do-do
10:49 AM bjorkintosh: definitely one of my favorite tv shows.
11:03 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I just found 2 magnetic chucks..
11:06 AM roycroft: i have a new policy
11:07 AM roycroft: if an ebayer adds a "make offer" option to a listing, and i offer a tiny bit below their listing price ($0.25 less in this most recent case) and they reject it, i will not ever buy anything from them
11:07 AM roycroft: it's fundamentally dishonest to accept offers when the intent is to reject them all
11:08 AM * roycroft is done with his rant for the day :)
11:16 AM jpa-: roycroft: on the other hand, offering $0.25 less can seem like an insult itself
11:16 AM roycroft: how so?
11:16 AM roycroft: and i get the finger in the air to see how the wind blows thing on the part of the seller
11:17 AM roycroft: i've done that myself, but when i do that i price things higher than i expect to get and am willing to accept a reasonable offer
11:18 AM jpa-: ebay is so much biased against the seller in all kinds of resolutions that it is best not to sell people who seem like they might be annoying buyers
11:18 AM roycroft: i don't see how making an offer when it's an option is annoying
11:18 AM roycroft: if i offer $0.25 less than your asking price and you accept then it's actually less of a hassle
11:19 AM roycroft: because if i just place a bid and i win, you have to invoice me (yes, i know that's almost always automated), i have to pay, you have to be notified that i paid, then you ship
11:19 AM roycroft: if i make an offer i have to commit to the sale if you accept, so if you accept i automatically get charged and you know you can ship immediately
11:20 AM jpa-: ah, i thought it was a buy it now
11:20 AM roycroft: lots of listings are bid + buy it now + make offer
11:21 AM roycroft: but again, if you don't want to accept offers then don't add that option
11:21 AM roycroft: that's all i'm saying
11:22 AM roycroft: it's disingenuous at the very least to say you will accept offers when you won't
11:46 AM JT-Cave: a cool thing about Flex is you can edit the nc file in Flex and save it without opening a text editor like all the other guis
11:54 AM roycroft: i've looked at flex, and i want to give it a go
11:54 AM roycroft: but right now i want to get my machine working with axis
11:54 AM roycroft: my current focus is on the machine not the gui
11:55 AM roycroft: and i think i need some experience working with the machine before i can decide how i want to lay out my user interface
11:55 AM roycroft: if that makes sense
11:56 AM JT-Cave: I always start with Axis
12:01 PM roycroft: i still have to configure the other two axes, which will be trivial since they're the same as x, spindle control, which needs to wait for the 7i96s, e-stop button, and limit switches
12:01 PM roycroft: i need to add the limit switches to the machine, and i've not determine how i'm going to mount them yet
12:02 PM roycroft: after all that stuff is done there will be tuning, then i can start making chips/sawdust
12:02 PM roycroft: and THEN i can look at using flexgui for the user interface
12:31 PM JT-Shop: nap time
01:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - I still use axis...
01:31 PM roycroft: axis is a good way to get startd
01:32 PM roycroft: i'm sure i'll find a screen layout that would be more efficient for me, and like the idea of being able to build my own gui
01:32 PM roycroft: but if axis were the only user interface that existed i could still be happy with linuxcnc indefinitely, i'm sure
01:36 PM Tom_L: roy, Y may be a bit trickier if you're running 2 steppers
01:37 PM xxcoder: its single one type
01:37 PM Tom_L: ok
01:37 PM xxcoder: 3040 is quite tiny and 2 wouldnt make sense
01:39 PM xxcoder: I hope that guy with 2 Y found a solution
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> hey so from the forum i got that the tandem axes work if you add limit switches otherwise they dont.
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: BTW i installed the new linux cnc 2025 clean linux install and im getting problems trying to connect to the mesa 7i96. i cant connect and i cant seem, to find a tutorial. i suppose the ip address of the pc is the same 10 10 10 10 but whenever i use:
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: sudo ip addr flush dev enp6s0
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: sudo ip addr add 10.10.10.100/24 dev enp6s0
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: ... long message truncated: https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/mVkVnYIueybNBoGntxwWxEIN/2JoCxkA9Xec (9 lines)
01:40 PM Tom_L: it's just supposed to work now if you have the axis configured right
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> hi tommy
01:40 PM Tom_L: so
01:41 PM Tom_L: i'm not the one from the forum :)
01:41 PM Tom_L: same name
01:41 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> i followed : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Uc7GqsnveY but didnt work
01:41 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> oh hahahah
01:41 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> wow
01:41 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> sorry
01:42 PM Tom_L: did you edit the interfaces file?
01:42 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> the bigger prob now is connecting. basically i made the pn config and i was able to move motors, but when i opened the linux cnc file after that i got LINUX cnc terminated with an error,.
01:42 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:43 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> i dont know what you are refering to, but i did not touch anything
01:44 PM Tom_dev: you need a static ip entry in the interfaces file
01:44 PM Tom_dev: sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces
01:44 PM Tom_dev: iface enp2s0 inet static
01:44 PM Tom_dev: address 10.10.10.1
01:44 PM Tom_dev: netmask 255.255.255.0
01:45 PM Tom_dev: or whatever your ethernet is called
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> i tried this: Type
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: sudo geany /etc/network/interfaces
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: to append the following at the end of the file:
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: auto enp2s0
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: ... long message truncated: https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/koNUVxsJNKKcXTeYFyWCMMsE/PACT91MZLvI (8 lines)
01:45 PM JT-Shop: I use 10.10.10.11 I think .1 is special
01:45 PM Tom_dev: do you have an intel card?
01:45 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/mesact/index.html
01:46 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> but when i type sudo systemctl restart networking afterwards i get command not found so i deleted the things that i added
01:46 PM Tom_dev: i've used .1 with no issues
01:46 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/debian-12-eth.html
01:46 PM Tom_dev: just so it's not .10 and in that range
01:46 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> do you know why im getting command not found from sudo systemctl restart networking
01:46 PM JT-Shop: ok, I thought I read something somewhere and yup 10.10.10.anything but 10
01:47 PM Tom_dev: the alternate so specifying a net mask is: 10.10.10.1/24
01:47 PM Tom_dev: or .11 or whatever
01:47 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> i dont know if its intel.
01:47 PM Tom_dev: some will accept the alternate and some won't
01:48 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> so currently in the interface file i have auto lo iface lo inet loopback.
01:48 PM lcnc-relay: i should add the code bellow this?
01:48 PM Tom_dev: yes
01:49 PM Tom_dev: then restart
01:49 PM Tom_dev: udo systemctl restart NetworkManager.service
01:49 PM Tom_dev: or such
01:49 PM Tom_dev: that also varies
01:50 PM Tom_dev: *sudo
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> Tom_dev: how do i know what my ethernet is called
01:51 PM Tom_dev: ip link show
01:51 PM Tom_dev: or ip a
01:51 PM Tom_dev: or ip addr show
01:52 PM Tom_dev: it's the one you're NOT using for us
01:52 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> is it next to inet?
01:52 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/debian-12-eth.html
01:52 PM Tom_dev: JT-Shop, your mesact pie is done
01:54 PM Tom_dev: for example my ip link show shows this:
01:54 PM Tom_dev: 1: lo
01:54 PM Tom_dev: 2: enp2s0
01:55 PM Tom_dev: 2 enp4s0
01:55 PM Tom_dev: 3 enp4s0
01:55 PM Tom_dev: typo
01:55 PM rdtsc-w: gosh I miss the days of every ethernet being eth0
01:55 PM Tom_dev: wasn't that handy
01:56 PM xxcoder: yeah i wonder why names is so long nowdays
01:56 PM Tom_dev: i've copied those from one pc to another and couldn't figure out why it didn't work
01:56 PM JT-Shop: it has to do with hardware
01:58 PM JT-Shop: https://pasteboard.co/wVoaDhxxbkk3.png
01:58 PM lcnc-relay: <x_ma_ryu_x@> i am getting network not reachable after following the tutorial
01:59 PM JT-Shop: which tutorial?
01:59 PM Tom_dev: post your interfaces file to pastebin.debian.net
01:59 PM JT-Shop: ai just came up with this command ls /sys/class/net which I've never seen before
01:59 PM JT-Shop: I did :)
02:00 PM Tom_dev: not you silly
02:00 PM JT-Shop: lol
02:00 PM Tom_dev: well he could copy it
02:01 PM rdtsc-w: ls /sys/class/net will show the interface names though
02:01 PM Tom_dev: you can also do address 10.10.10.11/24 and not use a netmask
02:02 PM Tom_dev: rdtsc-w, well aren't you slick. i'd make him work for it
02:04 PM bjorkintosh: rdtsc-w: you can rename them.
02:04 PM Tom_dev: i like the one in JT's example since it shows what is connected and what isn't
02:04 PM bjorkintosh: I had to, to get some things working a while back.
02:04 PM Tom_dev: nmcli device status
02:06 PM Tom_dev: what is the loopback one used for?
02:10 PM rdtsc-w: maybe inter-process socket communcation?
02:11 PM roycroft: lo is used for lots of things
02:11 PM roycroft: a very common example is a database server like mariadb or postgresql
02:11 PM bjorkintosh: localhost
02:12 PM roycroft: yes
02:12 PM roycroft: they often only listen on localhost so that the outside world cannot connect to them
02:12 PM roycroft: and also to conserve network bandwidth
02:16 PM Tom_L: makes sense
02:16 PM Tom_L: iirc i use localhost for something on a printer
02:25 PM bjorkintosh: rdtsc-w: you can edit /etc/network/interfaces ; rename enp3s0=wan0 or eth04 or whatever ; service networking restart
02:26 PM bjorkintosh: https://manpages.debian.org/jessie/ifupdown/interfaces.5.en.html
02:26 PM roycroft: or do it the modern way - systemctl restart networking :)
02:26 PM bjorkintosh: naturally.
02:27 PM roycroft: i know there's a lot of systemctl hate in the linux community
02:27 PM bjorkintosh: sorry, ignore the previous man page. https://manpages.debian.org/buster/ifupdown/interfaces.5.en.html
02:27 PM roycroft: why systemctl got singled out for the hate i do not understand
02:27 PM bjorkintosh: roycroft: I don't know why that is so. I run so many OSes it doesn't even matter.
02:27 PM roycroft: but as a practical matter, it's here, and it is here to stay
02:27 PM bjorkintosh: proxmox all the OSes :-D
02:28 PM roycroft: there are a lot of linuxisms that i find much more annoying than systemctl
02:28 PM roycroft: i think it's mostly resistance to change
02:29 PM bjorkintosh: they can just alias systemctl then to whatever they want.
02:29 PM roycroft: or continue to grow and change, themselves
02:31 PM bjorkintosh: or that.
02:31 PM roycroft: i have a few minutes of my lunch break left, and a corner that i want to tidy up before the recliner arrives, as it will be harder to tidy up after
02:31 PM * roycroft goes to do that
02:32 PM xxcoder: I always go for "what I need to do" rather than "what I have specific way I must use"
02:32 PM JT-Shop: looks like the rain is moving out so I may go to town and return the shelf unit I don't like
04:30 PM roycroft: festool are being very annoying
04:30 PM roycroft: for years they have listed items on their recon site, and there's a link to show what's in the queue
04:30 PM roycroft: the saw i want is in the queue
04:31 PM roycroft: in the past the listings have always gone in exact order - when something sells, the next item goes up for sale and everything else moves up the queue
04:31 PM roycroft: the saw was second from the top of the queue
04:32 PM roycroft: but earlier today they added 3 items ahead of it
04:32 PM roycroft: and now they've added another dozen or so ahead of it
04:32 PM Tom_L: they're on to you
04:32 PM roycroft: i want this saw badly enough that i'd be willing to pay regular price for a brand new one, but it's not currently available
04:33 PM roycroft: me and hundreds or thousands of other people who watch the site
04:33 PM roycroft: there's even a bot that monitors the site and posts to the forum every time something new is listed
04:34 PM roycroft: i'm wondering if they are getting ready for a big sale, which they usually only do in the fall, where you can by anything in the queue without waiting for it to bump to the top
04:35 PM roycroft: wow
04:35 PM roycroft: they've added an exoskeleton
04:35 PM roycroft: that's a brand new product
04:35 PM roycroft: and there's already one on the refurbished site
04:36 PM Tom_L: maybe it was a test model
04:36 PM roycroft: i could probably use on of those to replace my back and arms, but my blood is not rich enough to afford it
04:38 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wHebBWk7H0
04:38 PM roycroft: short video
04:38 PM JT-Shop: https://pasteboard.co/JIFweN7gMecZ.jpg
04:38 PM JT-Shop: well I wanted 30" deep shelve frame but didn't measure carefully my space and I'm 1/8" short on space
04:40 PM xxcoder: doh
04:41 PM Tom_L: i know a guy that's pretty good at engineering and building things if you need his number :)
04:43 PM JT-Shop: I just need to swap out the 8' for the 6' ends
04:44 PM roycroft: the delivery window for my recliner just began
04:45 PM * roycroft is looking forward to being extremely comfy soon
04:45 PM JT-Shop: it shows the 6' in stock
04:46 PM JT-Shop: I'll swap them out tomorrow
04:49 PM roycroft: or cut 6" off the tops of those
04:49 PM roycroft: just enough to clear, but that would give you more height than the 6' ones
04:49 PM JT-Shop: but then I could not put a shelf on the top like I can with a 6' one
04:50 PM JT-Shop: cutting them off crossed my mind but now that I know they have 6' ones I'll just swap them out
04:50 PM roycroft: i guess it depends in part on how far the store is from you
04:50 PM roycroft: for me, i'd be seriously considering cutting them down vs a 2 hour round-trip drive to exchange them
04:50 PM JT-Shop: takes about 2 hours to walk home from menards
04:51 PM Tom_L: if you used the top of the 8' that might require a stepladder for access and we don't want you ending up like .... well you know
04:51 PM JT-Shop: much faster driving
04:51 PM roycroft: buy them online right now, so they don't sell out by the time you get there tomorrow
04:51 PM roycroft: 'cuz that happens a lot
04:51 PM JT-Shop: the built in shelf is about 8' from the floor
04:52 PM Tom_L: i wouldn't feel comfortable wearing that festool thing
04:52 PM JT-Shop: I am slowly getting rid of stuff on the built in shelf
04:53 PM roycroft: i don't know if i would feel comfortable or not with it, but i'm not sure how useful it would be
04:54 PM roycroft: iirc it adds 10kg of lifting strength
04:54 PM Tom_L: not for that price
04:54 PM roycroft: even disregarding the price, which is hard to ignore
04:54 PM roycroft: if someone gave it to me i'm not sure i would use it much
04:55 PM Tom_L: it would collect dust and take up already limited space here
04:55 PM roycroft: if i were lifting sheet good overhead all day long perhaps, but that's not something i do often
04:55 PM Tom_L: there are other ways to do that alot cheaper
04:55 PM JT-Shop: one thing I like about that 8' shelf is the 2x4's to the truss make a nice grab bar
04:55 PM Tom_L: i borrowed a sheetrock jack when i did my basement
04:56 PM roycroft: and the battery lasts 90ish minutes
04:56 PM roycroft: if you're working alone you'd have to unstrap, remove the thing completely, swap the battery, and strap back in
04:56 PM Tom_L: i hung a few without it though
04:56 PM roycroft: and do that 3-4 times in a day
04:56 PM roycroft: i have a sheet rock lift
04:56 PM roycroft: i bought it when i was moving here, but haven't used it yet - it's in storage
04:56 PM JT-Shop: what are we talking about?
04:57 PM Tom_L: festools strapon
04:57 PM roycroft: the festool exoskeleton
04:57 PM roycroft: there's one on their refurbished site right now
04:57 PM JT-Shop: got a link?
04:57 PM roycroft: for "only" $2800
04:57 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wHebBWk7H0
04:57 PM Tom_L: was his video for it
04:58 PM xxcoder: pretty cool but meh. if I ever work again, I probably would need it'
04:58 PM xxcoder: theres someone designing a no power version too
04:59 PM roycroft: https://www.festoolusa.com/products/exoskeleton
04:59 PM xxcoder: https://hackaday.io/project/176681-alice-open-source-exoskeleton-2021-update
04:59 PM roycroft: that's the official website page
05:00 PM xxcoder: oops that one was powered. this one is unpowered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8W8SwerKPk
05:00 PM xxcoder: I recall theres one where you can sit anywhere too
05:01 PM JT-Shop: that doesn't look very handy
05:02 PM roycroft: i think for certain tasks it could be
05:02 PM roycroft: but not for most of what i do
05:02 PM xxcoder: it doesnt look it, but it greatly lessens muscle power to keep arms up constantly
05:02 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/RFkT_Is8aRw this is "sit anywhere"
05:02 PM JT-Shop: yep if you're working overhead all day I could see it being a bit of help
05:03 PM JT-Shop: holding your arms up
05:03 PM xxcoder: its also handy for lifting, it stores power as you lower, and uses it on load upwards
05:04 PM xxcoder: lol "You will never lose a game of musical chairs ever again. " comment at video
05:04 PM roycroft: for the cost of the festool you can hire a laborer for quite a few hours
05:11 PM bjorkintosh: initial cost, yes?
05:50 PM roycroft: and you only get two batteries with it - it takes two at a time
05:51 PM roycroft: so if you're going to use the thing all day long add an extra $1k for 4 more batteries and a couple dual chargers
05:53 PM roycroft: the delivery folks just phoned - they will be here in 45 minutes
05:54 PM roycroft: and fortunately they have a 26' truck
05:54 PM roycroft: i was hoping it wasn't a 40 footer or so, since i live at the end of a cul du sac
05:56 PM bjorkintosh: cul de sac. bottom of a bag.
06:05 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
06:26 PM * rdtsc also calls it a night
06:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I just lifted a magnetic chuck and I think it was heavy - The crane definatly felt it
06:31 PM rdtsc: gonna refurb it?
06:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it is going on a shelf for now.
06:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> there was a littler one on top of it lol
06:33 PM rdtsc: if never going to use, see if inheritance machining could use it
06:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - I offered a cherrying head to Kieth ruckter - he thought it was cool but he already has a K&T mill with a cherring setup.

06:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Should hold the shelving down
06:37 PM rdtsc: little WD-40 and scotch-brite = looks like new
06:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I scraped it a little - it is pretty nice
06:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> been kinda cold here - fired up the furnace again
06:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> wow - more floor
06:39 PM rdtsc: ditto, weather is all over the place... cold in the morning, downpour, then sunny and hot, then cold again in the evening
06:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/wxv7T5fVa4ugaTgo6
06:41 PM rdtsc: starting to look like a usable shop :)
06:42 PM rdtsc: possessions are weird... we all want stuff, but too much stuff is a bad thing
06:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yah - there is so much stuff here. I have an acroloc? cnc machine that is just going to disapear. It has set inside the big door and that was it.
06:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> wierd tooling
06:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it does have a rotary axis on it - that is certainly going to be kept
06:47 PM rdtsc: had a friend once in the pre-teen years... he had almost nothing... a room, a bed, a small toybox, and a desk (spartan.) His parents made him donate something from the toybox if he wanted a new toy. Unsure how I feel about that even to this day, but they were good people. Maybe it is better to have too little than too much.

06:49 PM rdtsc: Huh, never even heard of that brand. Complete opposite here... projects all over incomplete, trying to wrap some of them up before it gets too late.
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yah - I think there is a happy medium
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> don't know what that is
06:51 PM rdtsc: the happy medium must be "squash procrastination" and hard work. :)
06:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I go in spirts..
06:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I am trying to get to the point that I can get a car on the lift
06:52 PM rdtsc: just seeing the middle of the floor, and a space to walk through, is miles of progress
06:52 PM xxcoder: yeah skunkworks finally knows what general color of floor is now
06:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it is stained concrete
06:57 PM rdtsc: took a 10" diamond concrete disc to my basement floor, smoothing out high spots and rough areas prior to epoxy... turned out nice
06:58 PM rdtsc: lot of physical work though, and one helluva mess
07:21 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:22 PM roycroft: there is almost enough room to walk through the shop now
08:22 PM roycroft: as opposed to climb through
08:22 PM xxcoder: I would have died twice trying to cross that length lol
08:22 PM xxcoder: bridge is down for a bit
08:22 PM xxcoder: something happened, turboss is figuring it
08:22 PM roycroft: oh well
08:23 PM roycroft: my recliner is here and it is very comfy
08:23 PM * roycroft is happy
08:23 PM xxcoder: awesome! hope kittens like it too
08:23 PM roycroft: the kittens are still pretty freaked out about it
08:23 PM roycroft: it's new
08:23 PM roycroft: it smells funny
08:23 PM roycroft: and worst of all, it moves
08:23 PM roycroft: but they'll get used to it
08:24 PM roycroft: i am able to sit in my usual spot for the first time since i came home from hospital
08:24 PM roycroft: i could not sit on the old futon sofa at all
08:28 PM xxcoder: too stiff I guess
08:28 PM roycroft: moreso it was too deep and had little back support
08:58 PM xxcoder: test
08:59 PM xxcoder: seems all good now
09:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> The leadscrews that came with the compact5 are way too small imho..
09:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> they are 8mm iirc
09:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> they are nice - double nut. but I think the balls are too small and don't like being under pressure
09:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> everyone I have played with feel very crunchy...
09:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I replaced them with 12mm irrc
09:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> iirc

11:50 PM lcnc-relay: <snapemone@> Just installed linuxcnc and found out i cant use the smoothstepper controller with it 🤣
11:50 PM lcnc-relay: <snapemone@> Not sure if i want to just get a mach3 licence or change to another board
11:51 PM lcnc-relay: <snapemone@> Its an old machine i acquired
11:51 PM xxcoder: MESA boards probably would be better than mach3.
