03:28 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> i need to write a hal component for rpi to control the odrive over CAN-Bus
04:25 AM Tom_L: morning
04:54 AM _unreal_: I cant wait to play with mmy odrives WHEN I get the chance
05:41 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
07:31 AM mrec: does G98 have any relevance if the R option is set in a canned cycle?
07:31 AM mrec: G98 - retract to the position that axis was in just before this series of one or more contiguous canned cycles was started.
07:32 AM mrec: G99 - retract to the position specified by the R word of the canned cycle.
07:32 AM mrec: ah ... next sentence
07:32 AM mrec: Program a G98 and the canned cycle will use the Z position prior to the canned cycle as the Z return position if it is higher than the R value specified in the cycle. If it is lower, the R value will be used. The R word has different meanings in absolute distance mode and incremental distance mode.
07:33 AM mrec: it's clear now. I'm modifying the FreeCAD postprocessor to match the Mitsubishi CNC here
07:46 AM JT-Cave: https://pasteboard.co/QQWcSFPZDh2B.png
08:41 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> wow - that looks very much like axis..
08:42 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> neat!
08:51 AM JT-Cave: yup it's meant to look like and function like Axis but be much more flexible
08:51 AM JT-Cave: https://pasteboard.co/rVjuKqgVtHJv.png
08:51 AM JT-Cave: just got the views working on the tool bar

10:39 AM roycroft: happy monday
10:42 AM bjorkintosh: how're you doing roycroft?
10:44 AM roycroft: i'm doing ok
10:44 AM roycroft: i'm moving better
10:44 AM roycroft: i didn't sleep terribly well last night, but i'm expecting to have nights like that occasionally
10:50 AM roycroft: the staples in my back are getting loose and moving around a bit, and that's kind of painful when they move wrong, and it's another week and a half until they are removed
10:51 AM roycroft: but other than that i'm doing well
10:51 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Yay
10:51 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> daughter woke up with a fever.. The kid at work calls my kids germ bags.. lol
10:56 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> boy - I need to clean my glasses.. they are filthy..
10:57 AM bjorkintosh: microfiber cloth. they're cheap and great for cleaning glasses.
11:05 AM roycroft: i use microfiber cloth for a lot of things
11:05 AM roycroft: including cleaning spectacles
11:06 AM roycroft: but if you don't have one already, i highly recommend getting an inexpensive ultrasonic eyeglass/jewelry cleaner and putting it in the bathroom
11:07 AM rdtsc-w: "ultrasonic" denture cleaners are great at getting rings clean
11:07 AM roycroft: i have a couple ultrasonic cleaners in the shop, but having one in the bathroom is really nice
11:07 AM roycroft: i usually put my eyeglasses in it when i take a shower in the morning and they are nice and clean for the day
11:08 AM rdtsc-w: btw, saw that ultrasonic cleaning of bearings is a no-no... it actually etches the surfaces
11:08 AM roycroft: it not only keeps the lenses clean, it prevents buildup of oils and dead skin in the little nooks and crannies
11:09 AM roycroft: that, i suppose, depends on what kind of contaminents are in the bearings and what kind of cleaner you use
11:09 AM roycroft: i can see that if bits of grit get in the bearings it could cause that surface etching
11:27 AM roycroft: at any rate, a bathroom eyeglass/jewelry ultrasonic cleaner is well worth the $30 or so, and worth a little real estate on the bathroom vanity counter
11:28 AM roycroft: i use distilled water in mine, with 1 drop of dish washing soap
11:31 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:52 PM xxcoder: yeah real one is worth it indeed
12:53 PM xxcoder: I got mine for $30. nice small steel container thing. if its plastic, its fake
12:53 PM rdtsc-w: took apart one of those old plastic "ultrasonic" denture cleaners, and found a 60Hz coil and weight on a spring... frequency off by a factor of 1000 heheh
12:54 PM xxcoder: lol
12:54 PM xxcoder: fake ones can be nice, just not ultrasonic
12:54 PM roycroft: mine has a ss reservoir, but the rest of the unit is plastic
12:54 PM xxcoder: yeah likely real, if cheapish
12:55 PM xxcoder: if not sure just drop small foil in it
12:55 PM roycroft: if mine is really 60Hz then it does a good job of generating high frequency harmonics, as the radio interference from it is definitely ultrasonic, not line frequency
12:55 PM xxcoder: real one will eat it.
12:56 PM rdtsc-w: think most of the real transducers are in the 30k-45kHz range
12:57 PM roycroft: if i'm honest, for the eyeglass/jewelry cleaner i don't care if it's "real" or fake, as long as it cleans the stuff
12:57 PM roycroft: but i think mine is real
12:57 PM xxcoder: oh interesting https://sonicsolutionsltd.com/how-to-perform-a-foil-test-in-an-ultrasonic-cleaning-bath/
12:57 PM xxcoder: roy indeed
12:59 PM xxcoder: I have fake usb "ultrasonic" for cleaning fruit or veggies in sink, and its quite handy, even if not real ultrasonic.
12:59 PM Rab: I'd like to do ultrasonic glasses cleaning, but I've had some bad luck with antiscratch coatings; sorta afraid ultrasonic might cause the coating to debond from the softer plastic lens.
01:01 PM xxcoder: you'd want those fake cleaners then
01:01 PM xxcoder: just buy plastic container ones
01:02 PM xxcoder: https://www.ebay.com/itm/204348115091 for example. video shows waves as way too big to be ultrasonic
01:03 PM Rab: Standard cleaners are not recommended for electronics, since the standing waves can mess with certain features like bond wires, crystals, etc. Ultrasonic tanks for cleaning electronics use a broadband transducer and sweep the frequency. The cheap ones use the resonant frequency of the transducer as part of a tuned circuit.
01:04 PM Rab: I think a lot of people use the cheap tanks anyway without (knowingly) encountering a problem, but it's not something I would do.
01:04 PM xxcoder: good to know. I dont think I will ever use ultrasonic to clean electrics
01:08 PM roycroft: my eye doctor told me that an ultrasonic cleaner is fine with my glasses
01:08 PM roycroft: i did ask :)
01:09 PM roycroft: for electronics, i find everclear to be a good cleaner
01:09 PM xxcoder: mine was always fine with it too. I really need to get new ones though, current ones is years old
01:09 PM roycroft: flood everclear, with mild brushing
01:09 PM roycroft: not everclear in an ultrasonic cleaner
01:10 PM Rab: Yeah, solvents in an ultrasonic cleaner atomize and mix with air really well.
01:11 PM Rab: I think rubbing alcohol is OK, but maybe not pure IPA.
01:11 PM xxcoder: most cleaners should come with lid to prevent that
01:12 PM xxcoder: mine did. nice ss lid
01:16 PM roycroft: i use solvents in my ultrasonic cleaners all the time
01:16 PM roycroft: BUT
01:17 PM Unterhausen: I have used a lot of acetone in my ultrasonic cleaner, but not at my house
01:17 PM roycroft: i do not fill the reservoir with the solvent - i fill it with water, put the solvent and the part(s) in a jar, put a lid on the jar, and put the jar in the water-filled reservoir
01:17 PM Unterhausen: wouldn't be prudent
01:18 PM roycroft: o
01:18 PM xxcoder: roy ah yeah that jar trick. never needed to, but yeah sound passes though just fine
01:18 PM roycroft: i have been doing that for decades without incient
01:18 PM roycroft: incident
01:18 PM roycroft: it has the added benefit of keeping the reservoir clean
01:19 PM roycroft: and making it trivial to switch cleaning solutions
01:21 PM Rab: roycroft, crafty.
01:27 PM roycroft: it seemed the obvious thing to do
01:28 PM roycroft: in the big cleaner i don't do that, but i generally only use simple green cleaner in that (highly diluted)
02:18 PM rdtsc-w: sometimes repair US equipment at work. can touch a US probe to two pieces of plastic and instantly spot-weld them :) US can weld all kinds of odd things, like solder to stainless or plated glass; very weird
02:26 PM pcw-home: Don't wire bonders for IC's use US? At least they used to.
02:37 PM roycroft: i used to think us welding was Evil(tm)
02:38 PM roycroft: then i got a cheap battery-powered rotary cutter from harbor freight and now i've made peace with us welded packaging
02:39 PM roycroft: https://www.harborfreight.com/4v-cordless-power-cutter-56192.html
02:40 PM xxcoder: I have something similiar, and its hella convient to have.
02:41 PM roycroft: i could not stand trying to open us-welded plastic packaging before i got that
02:41 PM roycroft: to the point where i'd look at something to buy, and have to decide whether it's worth the hassle of opening the package or not
02:41 PM roycroft: and often times i'd pass just because i did not want that hassle
02:41 PM roycroft: now it doesn't matter
04:09 PM roycroft: 23 degrees today
04:09 PM roycroft: almost hot
04:12 PM Unterhausen: We're getting all the diseased hemlock trees cut down, but it keeps raining so they aren't working on it
04:15 PM roycroft: bummer
04:15 PM xxcoder: sucks
04:15 PM xxcoder: talking about trees
04:16 PM xxcoder: man avocodo tree grow extremely slow lol
04:16 PM roycroft: while i won't gloat, i'm also not going to feel bad that we're having such nice weather now
04:16 PM xxcoder: im at year 1 now, and its just over a foot tall.
04:16 PM roycroft: we've had plenty of rain and snow this year
04:16 PM roycroft: we deserve nice sunny days
04:16 PM roycroft: nice, xxcoder
04:16 PM roycroft: i should try growing one again
04:16 PM xxcoder: yeah. it takes a LOT of effort to even start it.
04:16 PM roycroft: if i can ever afford an avocado again
04:17 PM roycroft: yes it does, and i've tried at least a couple dozen times, with only one ever sprouting
04:17 PM roycroft: and i kept that one going for a year or so
04:17 PM roycroft: i don't remember why it died
04:17 PM roycroft: maybe i never knew
04:18 PM xxcoder: start seed in bowl of water for a day , it softens the "skin". remove skin. place it in ziploc bag with moist paper towel (not soaked) for quite a while till it starts to have a root
04:18 PM xxcoder: then thats when you start it in either water vase or halfway in soil in vase
04:19 PM xxcoder: avocodo evolved to be eaten by now gone animal which dissolves skin and stuff, and get pooped out
04:20 PM xxcoder: ziploc part took over month lol
04:21 PM xxcoder: water vase, dunno 4 months?
05:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> hmm I have 80v on one of my phases
05:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> rest are 220.. It has been windy today but I wonder how long that has been like that..
05:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (power dropped out today)
05:22 PM JT-Shop: I had a wood rat chew through one phase but it was fatal for it
05:25 PM JT-Shop: when I called it in that rainy dark night I got the "are you sure?" yup I have a meter and know how to use it
05:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - same here. I measured at the disconnect - before the knives..
05:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> did you reset the breakers?
05:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes. yes I did..
05:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I should walk up - maybe something fell on one of the wires before the transformers..
05:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> nope - all 4 wires seem to be consistant all the way up and over the hill - as far as I can see.
05:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the breakers on the pole seem ok
05:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> hmm - who wants to do the math.. ON a 220 wild phase setup - what are the voltages if you lose one phase before the transformers..
05:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (I am prettys sure there are currenty no 3 phase transformers running currently in the shop.
05:43 PM JT-Shop: you have 3 phase in your shop?
05:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> The phase that we run the house off of measures 110.. which seems low - usually it is pretty high - like 125 or more
05:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes
05:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Some how dad got them to install 3phase here before it costed bazillions of dollars..
05:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (it is really nice....)
06:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the 3d printer stopped when the power went out - I had forgotten all about it - so when I went up to the area to get my volt meter - I saw that it was asking to resume after the power outage.. I think it worked
06:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it was probably only off maybe a few minutes... The bed was hopefully hot enough that everything is stuck good enough.
07:14 PM roycroft: i got another raised lettering panel routed
07:14 PM roycroft: i'm getting better at it, but i still can't do more than one in a go
07:15 PM roycroft: and i just talked to the vw guy, and he says he'll meet me tonight, in a couple hours
07:15 PM roycroft: i hope he shows up this time
08:17 PM sinned691586 is now known as sinned69158
08:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Yay. Looks like I have all 3 phases.. wonder what it was
11:50 PM roycroft: hi folks
11:50 PM xxcoder: hey folk
11:51 PM roycroft: i just got back from town, and i think i've sold all my vws
11:51 PM roycroft: the guy really wants them, knows he's getting a great deal, but he's about $1k short on cash
11:51 PM roycroft: he's scrambling to get it
11:52 PM roycroft: so it was worth going down there late in the day, i think
11:54 PM xxcoder: hopefully it'll go well
11:54 PM roycroft: me too
11:54 PM roycroft: he'll take everything, which will be a huge relief for me
11:55 PM roycroft: i'm asking about 1/3 what the stuff is worth, but if i can get rid of all if it at once i'll be ok with that
