12:35 AM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder@> bridge shutdown for service, be back in a bit
01:55 AM Deejay: moin
04:26 AM Tom_L: morning
05:22 AM Unterhaus__ is now known as Unterhausen
06:26 AM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> took a bit more than expected but bridge up and ruuning again
10:25 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> TurBoss: thanks
11:08 AM roycroft: good on you for persevering and getting it working again
11:44 AM roycroft: it's that time of year again, and i'm still waiting on two 1099s from two friends who operate non-profits, so it's auto-extension time again
11:44 AM roycroft: and lesson learned: don't donate tax-deducatable stuff to friends' non-profits
11:45 AM roycroft: or at least don't donate anything that requires documentation for the write-off
11:50 AM xxcoder: roycroft: just was backing up server, not fix or anything
11:53 AM Tom_L: i get that crap done asap
11:54 AM Tom_L: you're allowed a $500? $600? writeoff for that with no hard proof
12:00 PM roycroft: two vehicles worth over $2k each
12:00 PM roycroft: they require 1099s
12:00 PM roycroft: i've been asking for the forms since the first of the year
12:01 PM Tom_L: you get rid of your microbus stuff?
12:01 PM roycroft: i have a form 4868, and my refund won't be very much this year, but i want to get the taxes done soon anyway
12:01 PM roycroft: no, i did not
12:01 PM Tom_L: i knew you had a prospective buyer
12:01 PM roycroft: the guy had a death in the family and missed the appointment last week, but i'm driving down to meet him tomorrow
12:03 PM roycroft: i'm down to the vw stuff, a welding table that i'm going to cut up and reuse the meta, the media blaster, and a paint cart at the old place, plus some stuff for the dump
12:03 PM roycroft: so other than the vw stuff, one full pickup load of stuf i want to keep
12:03 PM roycroft: i just don't know when i'll be able to load that stuff
12:05 PM roycroft: i'm off the acetaminaphen completely, 5mg of oxycodone just at night before bed, and ibuprofin 100mg 3x daily, and am able to twist and bend a little now
12:05 PM roycroft: but i still have serious weight restrictions, and will for a while yet
12:05 PM roycroft: so it all depends on when i can get helpers
12:06 PM roycroft: if this neighbor kid is interested and works out it will be a lot easier - my helpers won't have to help me load, drive an hour up to here, help unload, and then drive home
12:06 PM roycroft: they just help me load
12:08 PM roycroft: i know it is going to be a huge relief to be done with the move, but i anticipate that when i actually am done i'll realize it's been an even bigger burden that i'm currently aware of
12:08 PM roycroft: and i hope this new place works out well for me, because i never want to do this again
12:09 PM * roycroft is about to go out to do some more raised lettering
12:10 PM roycroft: i wanted to get the taxes done as best i can first, so i can get that form off in the mail tomorrow
01:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - anyone need a hardness tester.. https://photos.app.goo.gl/3R4eZF5UcdTnteNXA
01:19 PM xxcoder: lol
01:20 PM xxcoder: man it have seen stuff
01:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yrd
01:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yex
01:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes
01:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I guess i cant type with nitril glovs on
01:23 PM xxcoder: :)
01:36 PM roycroft: i seem to have a hardness tester already - it's called the back of my head
01:37 PM roycroft: and i tested some concrete recently with it
01:37 PM Tom_L: condition: used
01:37 PM roycroft: the concrete was hard
01:37 PM rdtsc: instead of 'Rockwell" hardness, "Roycroft" hardness heheh
01:37 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> holy shit your tester is massive compared to mine
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> is that a hydraulic cylinder on it?
01:38 PM Tom_L: big_kevin, roy or sam?
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> sams from the pic
01:38 PM Tom_L: i know...
01:39 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> i realized after you asked what was happeni9ng
01:39 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> but that thing looks massive like you could stamp steel with it
01:39 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> mines just some counter weight thing
01:46 PM rdtsc: my hardness tester is a file... if it skips across instead of biting in, it's hard
01:47 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> big_kevin420@ On the meter it says 4.5" ram
01:47 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> sorry - 4.25"
01:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/JttYqoE85rCC8Qgn6
01:49 PM Tom_L: wonder if it could be re'certified
01:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ugh.. I don't want to keep it.. Tom!
01:49 PM Tom_L: but... but...
01:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
01:49 PM xxcoder: congats on new tester tom
01:50 PM Tom_L: you're on quite the treasure hunt there... seems like every day you show up with something new
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> It has sat in the on-conditioned polebuilding for like 30 years.. I remember playing with it maybe when I was in high school
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> you would not believe...
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> pouring here..
01:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> mainly trying to clean up enough to get the car in here to fix the deer damage
01:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think I can clean up a corner that is full of just junk steel - move the welder over to that spot - next to the door. That will be nice (I think it works - it is a 150a mig that dad got at some point.
01:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the 200a is currently down in the polebuilding
01:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but - that feeder would go on this welder if the feeder isn't working.
01:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> then - I think there is room way in the back corner to move the extra air compressor..
02:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that wil free up some space to jockey stuff around
02:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> oh - thundering too
02:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> and move some stuff outside.
02:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (for cutup/recycling)
02:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> was going to cutup some stuff outside today - then looked at the weather - so inside it is.
02:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> powered up the mazak again to charge the battery.. It as a dirty overload contactor.. it sometimes comes up with an overcurrent - but you just fiddle with the overload reset and it works.. I think it is because the relay box seem to have run with a bit of oil spraying in it.
02:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> wow - stream of conciseness..
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> 🤣
02:04 PM Tom_L: those don't have any backup batteries?
02:05 PM Tom_L: do you have the setup data just in case?
02:05 PM Tom_L: i had to load all the tool change .nc files etc for my bud once when he had to replace the motherboard on one of his
02:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it has re-chargable backup batteries.. so if you don't run it for a while - it will give a low battery error and won't run
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think I have the setup data.. I think dad took a bunch of pictures of each page. IIRC
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> although - I think it would be pretty easy to convert to linuxcnc if need be. ( because - honestly - I don't know how to run it...)
02:07 PM Tom_L: heh
02:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Dad was the one that used it..
02:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> for 85 - it is a pretty cool interface. Does preview and everything.. (dry run)
02:09 PM Tom_L: that's cool
02:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ugh.. there is a 2" 12ft long piece of stainless just leaning up against the wall here.
02:11 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> good to play with in a thunder storm
02:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think it is going to stay there for now
02:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (thought it was a tube - because that was most of what was leaning up here)
02:15 PM Tom_L: heavy tube ehh
02:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> a bit - yes
02:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I know were another one is wired to the side of some shelving...
02:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> No clue were he got it from
02:16 PM xxcoder: 12 feet is pretty insane
02:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> floor to ceiling here..
02:20 PM Tom_L: standard bar length
02:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Lol - I was taking a blower apart and the shaft was about 1 ".. I was tapping the bearing off the shaft with a brass hammer.. I then hit it a bit harder and mushroomed the steel with the brass hammer.. I think that is the softest steel shaft I have ever come across...
02:29 PM xxcoder: butteralloy steel
02:40 PM roycroft: it must have been made in china :)
02:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> getting there https://photos.app.goo.gl/FzrWkJwZkokuwTRQA
02:47 PM roycroft: did you recently inherit that place, skunkworks8841?
02:47 PM roycroft: i know you've been working on it for a while, but i don't know the backstory at all
02:50 PM Tom_L: roycroft, cleaning up his dad's place
02:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> kinda - yes. Dad passed away about 1.5 years ago.. He was in the process of kinda getting organized - but when He got sick - things got worse. (all hands on deck) so - I am trying to get stuff organized so the machine shop is usable.
02:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I moved in with the kids to take care of mom.. She can't live on her own.
02:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I helped build this place and want to keep using it.. So it is nice that I am here 100% of the time.
02:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (other than the day job)
02:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> there is just so much stuff that I will never use.. - so - going through everything trying to decide what goes.
02:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> kids seem to like it here too.
02:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ( we lived in town before - now they live with woods all around them.
02:53 PM bjorkintosh: less bullshit.
02:53 PM xxcoder: theres so many stuff you found, some you use now. like formerly leaning tower
02:53 PM Tom_L: more time with grandma too
02:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes
02:53 PM Tom_L: good for both of them
02:54 PM xxcoder: still think that chainsaw on tower working out funny
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - yes.. Now I can actually cut the tree's down. one of the plans this summer
03:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> and now I have found my 3rd 2" electrical conduit.
03:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> aluminum.. forgot that part
03:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> and another 2 inch stainless. Shorter this time - maybe 6 ft
03:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I see tree house hardware 🙂
03:33 PM xxcoder: time to make electric tree house
03:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> part of the reason why the tree house is going where it is - partly - big oak three and partly - 120v outlet (part of the run up to the tower)
03:38 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> tree house with electrical? sounds handy when the tree gets struck by lightening
03:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - no worse than the tower that is about 100ft farther up on the hill
04:33 PM xxcoder: wow crap lights. he changed it into nice one, but uses usb-c standard usb port, but weird special cable that can destroy other devices? insane.
04:33 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/E_6Y1iip3p0
04:34 PM xxcoder: he fixes that so it uses normal cales
04:34 PM xxcoder: cable
04:57 PM roycroft: i did another raised letter thing in a single go
04:57 PM roycroft: it took 50 minutes
04:57 PM roycroft: two down, six to go
04:58 PM roycroft: but i need a good rest now
04:58 PM roycroft: still, 50 minutes straight working was pretty good
04:58 PM Tom_L: the 10 hr drive yesterday did my back in
04:58 PM xxcoder: ow that sucks
04:58 PM Tom_L: mowed hoping it would loosten up
04:58 PM Tom_L: still very sore
04:59 PM Tom_L: i have minor back issues anyway
04:59 PM roycroft: i need to mow badly
04:59 PM roycroft: but i dare not even attempt that right now
05:00 PM roycroft: especially since at least half of my 'mowing' is actually weedeating, which i should imagine would be horrible for my back
05:00 PM xxcoder: yeah I wouldnt bet against that
05:02 PM roycroft: i don't even want to sit at the cad workstation right now - i think the comfy chair in the living room nees me
05:02 PM roycroft: needs
05:48 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: get a recliner
05:48 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> worth every penny
05:49 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> one of these https://shop.stressless.com/en/c/recliners
06:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - it fits.. Once everything to the right of it is cleaned out - it will probably be rotated 90 degrees
06:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/R2rAicRMWDuFRSoi7
06:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> seems to work.. Going to have to find the large tank for co2..
06:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I wonder were that is squirreled away...
06:06 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok, temp has leveled off for the day. now hoovering at 80 to 81
06:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 60 here
06:08 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> warmest day of the year out here.....
06:10 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> rum and tonic on the deck time..... bbt
06:22 PM roycroft: it's getting nice here, too
06:22 PM roycroft: and no rain for at least 10 days
06:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> we picked up a battery for the atv.. Kids have been running it around.
07:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I should probably rent a tank.. I found the tank that we used to use. I don't have a screw on cover for it. I wonder if he took it to get filled and they would not pressure test it..
07:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I would say the wheels under that welder is pretty nice..
07:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> *are
07:34 PM Tom_L: i use mine so seldom the tanks probably would need pressure tested
07:34 PM Tom_L: mine are small tanks though
07:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have a small tank that needs to be filled.. but - I really probably need a big tank. I guess I could fill a small
07:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> One and see how long it lasts
07:53 PM Tom_L: i have 2 small ones and don't think i've ever used the 2nd one
07:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I guess we welded up the furnace with it.
07:54 PM Tom_L: i had a couple different gasses when i got the welder to play around but turned in the argon one
07:54 PM Tom_L: now i think all i have is a tri mix or c25
07:54 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have always used co2
07:54 PM Tom_L: on steel yeah
07:54 PM Tom_L: a bit cheaper
07:55 PM Tom_L: you need argon for aluminum
07:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Some day I would like to get tig
07:55 PM Tom_L: i'd never tried it so i wanted to and had an issue with the wand i wasn't aware of at the time
07:56 PM Tom_L: which caused the welds to turn out terrible
07:56 PM Tom_L: the gas hose wasn't completely seated where it goes to the wand so i wasn't getting much shielding gas
07:58 PM Tom_L: i'd given up on aluminum by then but the beads started coming out alot better after i fixed the problem
07:58 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Welding/test_bead2.jpg
07:58 PM Tom_L: just a bunch of scrap tests
08:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Nice
08:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> There is something wrong with this wand.. the internal sleeve must not line up with the tip. You have to take it apart to get the wire though and then screw it back together
08:57 PM roycroft: did you try waving the wand and saying "strandus insertum"?
09:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Yes and it didn't work.
09:10 PM Tom_L: hooked the magic joo joo up on mine and it did wonders
09:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I may not have been annunciating correctly
09:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> But the feeder seems to work
09:51 PM _unreal_: quiet
10:06 PM roycroft: we'we hunting wabbits
10:06 PM xxcoder: 🐇
10:07 PM _unreal_: wow its really cooling off tonight, down to 69f
