10:19 AM JT-Shop: 269 road closures due to flooding in MO
10:19 AM JT-Shop: and 52 more road closures due to damage or something blocking the highway
10:20 AM roycroft: yeah, you're right in the middle of it
10:21 AM JT-Shop: for some reason the connection to the coop rpi is 2002ms and a few more on the lan are 2002ms
10:22 AM JT-Shop: any clue what to look for?
10:22 AM roycroft: that's a horrible amount of latency
10:23 AM roycroft: has it been that way for long?
10:23 AM JT-Shop: since the rain started
10:23 AM roycroft: rain and leaves hose outdoor wifi
10:23 AM JT-Shop: wired lan
10:23 AM roycroft: oh, wired
10:24 AM roycroft: something got wet, i would guess
10:24 AM JT-Shop: I'll check again and reboot the rpi
10:29 AM JT-Cave: nothing wet in the coop electronics area
10:30 AM JT-Cave: coop 1 and coop 2 are connected to the same switch and coop 2 is 0ms
10:52 AM JT-Cave: put another rpi3 in and same ping time so it's not the rpi
10:56 AM roycroft: reboot the switch
10:58 AM JT-Shop: blowing the dust off the rpi3 and putting it back in, I rebooted the local switch so I'll also reboot the switch that's upstream
10:58 AM * roycroft waves goodbye to jt for a bit
10:59 AM JT-Shop: I now suspect the switch in the coop because coop 2 is also connected to it and has a rapid ping and one of the cameras that are connected to that switch has stopped working
11:42 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> forkift isn't worth it. I think it is going to be cut up..
11:43 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I see a ton of stuff that is now bad. the tilt cyclinders chrome was warn off - so now it is rusted
11:43 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the shifter is cable run and is now seized. Motor is sieze. I think it has paid for itself.
11:43 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> plus I will probably get around 200 in steel.
11:52 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> samn, do you do computers for a living or do you make money at your sweet ranch somehow?
12:04 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - my $DayJob$ is IT
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> This is moslty my sanity hobby
12:11 PM roycroft: there is great value in purging things, i am learning more and more every day
12:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> just moved the tractor up here to start disasembling..
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have probably - atleast 5 more 2.5ton loads to start seeing a dent
12:12 PM roycroft: i just fixed a weird vpn issue for the country fair's network that's been bugging me
12:13 PM roycroft: and i was supposed to fix it a couple weeks ago
12:13 PM roycroft: i'm just now clear-headed enough to do the troubleshooting
12:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> nice!
12:13 PM roycroft: yeah, feels good to have that done
12:13 PM roycroft: now i have one more network switch to bubble wrap, then i can finish packing that shipment
12:14 PM roycroft: i might get two things done today
12:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I stopped drinking any alcohol about a month ago.. I found myself trying to find something to drink every day. It didn't feel good.
12:14 PM roycroft: and allegedly i'm going to show the vw buses to a prospective buyer today
12:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> and boy - do I feel better.
12:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> nice!
12:14 PM roycroft: i've been a light drinker for a while now
12:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> you're geting rid of the bus!
12:15 PM roycroft: i used to drink more heavily, but not abusively
12:15 PM roycroft: back when i was brewing
12:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yah - my kids didn't notice for a good 3 weeks.. Just that I wasn't having a drink for supper
12:16 PM roycroft: and since my injury i've not had a drop - i've been on acetaminophen, which is tough on the liver
12:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> right
12:16 PM roycroft: no refreshing beverages until i'm off that stuff
12:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> wait - buses? you have more than one?
12:16 PM roycroft: i have two
12:16 PM roycroft: and a half dozen spare engines
12:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - they are small
12:16 PM roycroft: and 2 or 3 porsche 914 d-jet fuel injection systems
12:17 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:17 PM roycroft: and a number of eberspächer gas heaters
12:17 PM roycroft: a whole bunch of vw parts
12:17 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I bet those will go well. They seem to be very popular
12:17 PM roycroft: the guy who is going to look at the stuff runs an air-colled vw repair shop that's been in business for about 50 years
12:18 PM roycroft: well i was going to part out everything and try to make a big bundle of cash
12:18 PM roycroft: but at this point i'm wanting it gone, so i'll give him a sweet deal if he takes everything
12:19 PM roycroft: the other thing that's become very apparent to me is that i need to be completely done with the old property
12:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I can't get to the crank pully to try to break it free.. So - at this point I don't want to put any time other than getting rid of it. I might try - once I get it out - see if it will run - because I could probably get a few hundred - it is propane powered.
12:19 PM roycroft: the vw stuff is the main roadblock to that at this point
12:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> is it still yours? or did you sell it?
12:20 PM roycroft: it's on the market
12:20 PM roycroft: sucky time to sell, thuogh
12:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ah - ok. ugh
12:20 PM roycroft: mortgage rates are high, and the economy is about to tank
12:20 PM roycroft: i would not be surprised to see us in the second great depression by next year
12:20 PM Tom_L: greetings from the gulf of America
12:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> As long as I can afford the other house - I will keep it.. It will be my emergeny fund..
12:21 PM roycroft: i think i'll go pack up that other switch now
12:22 PM roycroft: i did one of them around 6 this morning and i'm recovered enough from that now
12:23 PM roycroft: i did not sleep well last night - i tried going off the oxycodone completely, but it's too soon, i guess
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have to figure out if I want to play with vpn here. But I am unsure if openvpn can connect over ipv6
12:23 PM roycroft: so i took some in the middle of the night
12:23 PM roycroft: i'm not taking any during the day though
12:23 PM roycroft: it can
12:23 PM roycroft: we're doing cisco vpn at the fair though
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> nice! - Using it for sleep when you are in pain.. That seems very ok.
12:24 PM roycroft: that's my next task for them - getting their site office connected to the town office with a site-to-site vpn
12:24 PM roycroft: yeah, i'm ok with that
12:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> nice. we have sonicwall at work - and it seems ok. Even has a linux client. (and it works)
12:24 PM roycroft: i want to get off the stuff completely, but if i take 5mg at bedtime that is ok
12:25 PM roycroft: i like hard-wired vpn devices for permanent connections
12:25 PM roycroft: anyway, i'm going to go package up that switch
12:25 PM roycroft: bbl
12:49 PM roycroft: yay - that is done
12:49 PM roycroft: and i even found a cisco console cable, which i was hving trouble locating
12:50 PM roycroft: i only own about 30 of them, but i have no idea where the big stash is
12:50 PM * roycroft thinks it's nap time now
12:55 PM roycroft: the kittens want attention, so i guess it's easy chair and tv time for a bit
12:55 PM roycroft: almost as good as nap time
12:56 PM xxcoder: lean it back, wear eye covers
12:56 PM xxcoder: use kittens as blanket
12:56 PM roycroft: it's the resting more than the sleeping that i need
12:56 PM roycroft: so this will be fine
12:57 PM roycroft: and they get in a mode where they need their heads petted for about 5 seconds, then they run away
12:57 PM roycroft: then they come back 2 minutes later for another 5 seconds
12:57 PM xxcoder: lol
12:57 PM roycroft: they need attention, but only in tiny doses
01:01 PM roycroft: they are not allowed in the back of the house, where my studio and utility room are, and my office, and those are the places i've been all morning
01:01 PM roycroft: so when they know i'm home and nearby, but can't get to me, they become very attention starved
01:16 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:31 PM JT-Chicken: roycroft, I had to reboot the router
02:07 PM roycroft: that makes sense
02:07 PM roycroft: i'm glad it was that easy a fix
02:18 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:14 PM JT-MShop: I removed the static ip and got a weird one so I figured the router was not passing out ips correctly
04:10 PM roycroft: i solved my bedroom appliance problem yesterday the opposite way
04:10 PM roycroft: i turned off dhcp and assigned static ip to each device
04:11 PM JT-MShop: the coops and some others have static ip so it's a mystery to me
04:11 PM roycroft: i've not had a chance to investigate this further, but i have both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz enabled on the wifi ap, and i know the bedroom appliances only connect to the 2.4GHz ssid
04:11 PM roycroft: i'm thinking it's not passing dhcp properly, while the 5.8GHz is
04:12 PM roycroft: i use 5.8GHz whenever possible
04:13 PM JT-MShop: my laptop uses wifi only because the nic is set to an ip that I use for PLC's
04:14 PM roycroft: i used to hard wire things whenever possible, but i don't want to pull ethernet cables in the new house
04:14 PM roycroft: there is one - from my studio in the back of the house to my office in the front of the house
04:14 PM roycroft: and within each of those rooms there are ethernet cables to various devices
04:14 PM roycroft: but everything else is wifi
04:15 PM roycroft: i don't even have ethernet to my shop at the moment, and may never pull it
04:16 PM roycroft: when i get the addition built to the shop and everything is installed and in place i might revisit that
04:22 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:22 PM JT-MShop: Tom_L, is back
04:23 PM Tom_L: cleaning up before dinner
04:24 PM roycroft: the vw guy has not called yet
04:24 PM roycroft: i don't know what to do
04:24 PM roycroft: i need to go to town today, and it's getting late
04:25 PM JT-MShop: I had a guy from a town 30 miles away that wanted my C8 wheels but I've not heard from him all week but I understand that the town he live in has not had power for a few days
04:25 PM roycroft: yeah, your part of the world is a big mess
04:26 PM JT-MShop: I have the listed way too cheap but no one wants stock C8 wheels for their C8
04:26 PM Tom_L: hope things are ok there with all the rain
04:27 PM JT-MShop: lots of flooding
04:27 PM Tom_L: unless you Crack one
04:27 PM JT-MShop: the wheels were on the car from the assembly line to the dealer so 4 miles on them
04:27 PM Tom_L: and don't have custom rims
04:28 PM xxcoder: probably everyone who has c8 have stock wheels somewhere
04:28 PM JT-MShop: usually you order the wheels you want with the car but these were under constraint so I had to order them separately
04:29 PM JT-MShop: and yep if you put aftermarket wheels on you have the oem wheels stacked up somewhere
04:29 PM Tom_L: won't fit on the C3 either
04:29 PM JT-MShop: wayyyy different wheels
04:30 PM Tom_L: that would look funny
04:30 PM JT-MShop: you would have to tub the c3 to put the rear wheels on
04:30 PM JT-MShop: the front would never fit
04:31 PM JT-MShop: rear tires are 13" wide on the C8
04:39 PM Tom_L: time to go scout out some food
04:40 PM Tom_L: dress up night but we're not really into that
04:41 PM JT-MShop: sitting at the capt table?
04:41 PM Tom_L: We have a little class, but not that much
04:41 PM Tom_L: way too stuffy
04:42 PM Tom_L: Anyway ttyl
04:42 PM JT-MShop: lol
04:42 PM JT-MShop: enjoy
04:42 PM Tom_L: Will
07:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZMeGFhiEW7aAmASW6
07:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> not bad progress
07:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> mom even came out and removed the meters and stuff
07:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it is going to have to be cut up - I think a lot of this was welded in place
07:17 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the pins that held the tilt cylinders in were not trapped.. I don't know how they were supposed to be trapped - but one was about half way out..
07:19 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:57 PM roycroft: well that trip to town went better than the last one
08:57 PM roycroft: i did my stuff, came home, and am not in pain and exhausted
09:21 PM xxcoder: nice
09:21 PM xxcoder: I finally ordered tricycle too
09:21 PM xxcoder: so I can get pain and exhaustion lol
09:38 PM roycroft: cool
09:46 PM xxcoder: yeah
09:47 PM xxcoder: its not fancy one, but cheap enough that if it dont work out, its not a huge loss
10:55 PM roycroft: there are some things i won't be able to do any more, and things i'll need to do differently
10:55 PM roycroft: i think i should be able to ride a bike just fine, but i need to ask if i can ride my current bike or if i need a different geometry
10:56 PM xxcoder: its why im getting triwheel. Im always dizzy and vision tracking is still broken
10:56 PM roycroft: yeah - on a trike you can get dizzy and not fall over
10:56 PM roycroft: or the trike won't, at least
10:56 PM roycroft: hopefully you won't either, if you can hang on to it
10:57 PM xxcoder: im always dizzy so im used to it, its vision not tracking that makes me unable to balance well
11:59 PM roycroft: dennis the menace has left the building
