10:58 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> good morning. HAPPY HOLIDAZE
11:01 AM roycroft: ho ho ho
11:05 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: how's the weather up there. ????
11:07 AM roycroft: we're having atmospheric river after atmospheric river
11:08 AM roycroft: it's unseasonably warm, but the rain just does not stop or even slow down
11:09 AM roycroft: 47mm forecast for saturday
11:10 AM roycroft: looks like it will taper off next week
11:15 AM roycroft: the upper reservoir on the road to town, which is usually for melting snowpack in the spring/summer, is about half full right now
11:15 AM roycroft: well, as of tuesday
11:20 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> been cold and foggy, with off and on rain, for the last 2 weeks..... the same going forward...
11:28 AM roycroft: it's winter
11:29 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> finally
12:50 PM xxcoder: pretty cool wood project. annoying guy warning https://youtu.be/97M3aa0JVaQ
01:06 PM lcnc-relay: <nick_namsep@discord> Hey everyone, im veryyy new to linux cnc and my first project i want to use it for is with some ethercat sevo's. I am currently running it on a pi but will probably switch a linux pc later. i allready got the ethercat running and im able to see the driver using the ethercat -slaves command i only cant seem to figure out how to get the readings from the servos into linuxcnc istelf. I think it has to do with some config...
01:06 PM lcnc-relay: ... files but like i said im very new so if there is someone that could explain some of it that would be amazing!
02:35 PM roycroft: we're having a sunny break!
02:35 PM * roycroft tries not to blink, so he won't miss it
02:36 PM xxcoder: your turn today it seems lol
02:36 PM xxcoder: heyy looked outside, its partial cloudy what
02:36 PM xxcoder: last I looked it was still very stormy
02:39 PM roycroft: i'm pretty sure it will be raining again very soon
02:39 PM xxcoder: likely
02:39 PM xxcoder: its just buffering up more rain
02:44 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram@discord> nick_namsep@discord: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/ethercat/54686-ethercat-conf-xml-with-beckhoff-el1008#316283
02:44 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram@discord> You have a very simple config here
02:44 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram@discord> You can have a look to the Hal file
02:45 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram@discord> https://forum.linuxcnc.org/media/kunena/attachments/31667/mill-nopid.hal
02:45 PM roycroft: it looks like it might actually be a prolonged break - possibly several hours
03:03 PM xxcoder: man clouds is moving *really* fast
03:03 PM xxcoder: its mostly clear now
03:43 PM lcnc-relay: <nick_namsep@discord> vibram@discord: Thanks for the info i will try to get a bit of an understanding of it
04:07 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:54 PM JT-Shop: got my hole probe routine working now to do a bolt circle drilling
05:58 PM * JT-Shop wonders if roycroft got all the right parts to fix the f350?
05:59 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> i hope it's got that 7.3 powerstroke, those engines are beasts
05:59 PM roycroft: it does have the 7.3l powerstroke
05:59 PM roycroft: and i did not go into town today
05:59 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> ohhhhh niceeeeeeeee
06:00 PM roycroft: it is boxing day, and traffic will be crazy, not to mention the atmospheric rivers
06:00 PM JT-Shop: that's a huge engine
06:00 PM roycroft: i'm going to go in tomorrow to get the seal
06:00 PM roycroft: which i hope is the only other part i need
06:00 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> one of ford's most reliable engines too
06:00 PM roycroft: yes, it is a big engine
06:00 PM roycroft: it's arguably the best small diesel engine ever made
06:00 PM roycroft: and is the main reason i purchased that vehicle
06:00 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> they actually lost money on the 7.3l because of the lack of issues it's had, so i've heard
06:01 PM roycroft: small meaning for non-fleet vehicles
06:01 PM roycroft: some of the cummings an detroit diesels in semi-tractors and industrial machines are pretty damn good too
06:02 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> yeah i think it'd be a lot of fun to cummins swap my nissan maxima
06:02 PM * roycroft is emptying the car right now, ready to fill it back up when he goes into town tomorrow
06:02 PM JT-Shop: put a 8 cyl EMD in there
06:03 PM JT-Shop: 645 cu. in. per cylinder
06:03 PM * JT-Shop worked on EMD's on the rigs for quite a few years
06:03 PM roycroft: and when i bought the truck i paid a gas engine price for the diesel engine
06:03 PM roycroft: i.e. i paid about $4k less than the going rate
06:04 PM roycroft: the dealer had a lot of money in it - he had to replace the injectors, glow plugs and a wiring harnass - and it had sat on the lot for 3 months
06:04 PM roycroft: so he was willing to deal
06:04 PM roycroft: as was i
06:09 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
07:03 PM roycroft: i was just out at the storage unit putting some things from my car in it
07:03 PM roycroft: the unit is just outside of town to the west
07:03 PM roycroft: and when i went out there the chain sign was up
07:03 PM roycroft: meaning that one is required to carry chains while driving further up the road
07:03 PM roycroft: so i guess winter is back in the mountains
07:03 PM Tom_L: did you finish the trip?
07:04 PM roycroft: yes, the road does not go uphill until about 15km west of there
07:04 PM roycroft: technically i was required to have chains a soon as i got to the sign, but the storage unit is only about 200m past the sign
07:05 PM roycroft: we had good snowpack earlier this year, and the ski areas opened before thanksgiving for the first time in recent memory
07:05 PM roycroft: but then it got warm and all the snow melted
07:05 PM roycroft: now it's back - the sign said "heavy, packed snow on the road"
07:05 PM Tom_L: so everybody got their skis all cleaned off for nothing
07:06 PM roycroft: and that's what it looks like
07:06 PM roycroft: https://tripcheck.com/RoadCams/cams/Willamette%20Pass_pid3351.JPG?rand=1735261043635
07:06 PM roycroft: that is right now
07:07 PM roycroft: well, 10 minutes ago
07:07 PM roycroft: right now it's dark
07:07 PM Tom_L: good time to be in with some hot cocoa
07:07 PM roycroft: https://tripcheck.com/RoadCams/cams/WillamettePass_pid658.jpg?rand=1735261103652
07:08 PM roycroft: facing the other direction
07:08 PM roycroft: yeah, i'm glad i'm home and warm
07:08 PM roycroft: there's cold rain outside, and it was not pleasant unpacking the car
07:08 PM xxcoder: here its still not raining, but thick dark clouds
07:08 PM * roycroft is thinking about making some hot chocolate later on this evening
07:09 PM roycroft: i'm at milepost 34, btw
07:09 PM roycroft: and the pass is at milepost 62
07:09 PM roycroft: so not very far
07:10 PM roycroft: but a 1200m difference in elevation
07:14 PM xxcoder: that would be perfect for steel legs bicycling training
07:32 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> just had a sous vide steak (reverse seared) for the first time, best steak ever
07:33 PM xxcoder: nice. me, its just fried chicken sticks, cooked by airfryer lol
07:33 PM xxcoder: with green sauce, ketchup, and sraracha as dips
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> how do fries come out with the airfryer?
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> i'd like to try one with chicken wings
07:37 PM xxcoder: yummy
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> this makes for a delicious wing sauce: https://bravadospice.com/products/ghost-pepper-blueberry-hot-sauce
07:38 PM xxcoder: lol nice but I have mostly left the high hot spicy stuff behind
07:38 PM xxcoder: both sraracha and green sauce barely is hot to me now
07:38 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> ahh
07:39 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> yeah the blueberry is really nice with the heat and all, very well balanced hot sauce
07:42 PM roycroft: siracha tastes different to what it used to, but not as different as all the complainers (i.e. the internet) make it out to be
07:42 PM roycroft: it's also not that hot, and never has been
07:42 PM roycroft: it's more like mild+ to medium
07:43 PM xxcoder: I could taste difference, it used to be slightly better tasting, but now I just buy trader joe ones because it is little bit drier and tastes same
07:44 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@discord> they changed the recipe to the OG Huy Fong sriracha?
07:44 PM xxcoder: I tried so many others while sraracha was impossible to get, including one so bad I threw it out half emptied an felt it was very late on being thrown away
07:44 PM xxcoder: they had a fallout with orginal farms and now buy cheaper stuff
07:45 PM xxcoder: its why it was brighter red, now its bit darker and bit more varied
07:47 PM roycroft: roland is supposed to be pretty good
07:47 PM xxcoder: maybe, though trader joe is easy ones to get. those ones caps suck though so I just reuse old sraracha oh cap
07:47 PM xxcoder: og
07:47 PM roycroft: some claim it's closer to the original siracha than the current stuff from huy fong
07:48 PM xxcoder: isnt it from those specific farms?
07:48 PM roycroft: it doesn't have to be
07:48 PM xxcoder: https://rolandfoods.com/product_images/87190-sriracha-chili-sauce-main-600.png
07:49 PM roycroft: from what i read at the time, huy fong single-sourced from that farm because the quality was very consistent, as was the supply
07:49 PM xxcoder: well it looks good, I want to try it evenually
07:49 PM roycroft: but the peppers from there are not anything special
07:49 PM roycroft: they're just grown very carefully
07:49 PM xxcoder: yeah consientacy is pretty good aspect
07:50 PM xxcoder: seems target sells em
07:50 PM roycroft: if i were in that business i'd contract with 2-3 farms who would produce to my specifications
07:50 PM roycroft: single-sourcing is bound to go south eventually
07:50 PM roycroft: and it did
07:50 PM roycroft: it's bad business to have your entire business depend on one other business over which you have no ownership or other control
07:50 PM xxcoder: 6 pack for 25 lol not too bad
07:51 PM xxcoder: makes sense, though if I recall right the sraracha company is one who tried to pressure cheaper prices and then sued and moved on
07:51 PM * roycroft is about to go make tostadas, but not with siracha
07:51 PM xxcoder: or was it farm that sued on amounts owed, and sraracha company pressured lower price?
07:51 PM xxcoder: either way good thing was destroyed
07:51 PM roycroft: well they claim they were overcharged, and the courts agreed with them
07:52 PM roycroft: but they were countersued for breach of contract, and the farm won that lawsuit
07:52 PM roycroft: so both parties lost
07:52 PM xxcoder: oh boy
07:52 PM xxcoder: thanks
07:52 PM roycroft: as did the taste buds of millions of americans
07:54 PM xxcoder: yup
07:55 PM xxcoder: roland have many good reviews but also many bad
07:57 PM xxcoder: ill buy one from target see what its like
08:10 PM xxcoder: well clouds of doom is gone. its clear and cold now
08:31 PM xxcoder: oh yes roycroft https://underwoodranches.com/ this one is supposely from same farm as huy one was from
08:31 PM xxcoder: havent tried it either
