04:30 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:33 AM JT-Cave: https://youtu.be/GNoxku9uavg
05:47 AM JT-Cave: memleak, did you get a chance to try flex after I removed the dpkg stuff?
07:37 AM memleak: not yet sorry!
07:37 AM memleak: later today
08:02 AM perry_j1987: morning
08:12 AM rdtsc-wk: morning, 13F here
08:31 AM rdtsc-wk: in case this is new to anybody, https://blendercam.com aims to incorporate CAM export to Blender
08:34 AM rdtsc-wk: v1.0.23 comes with latest blender, but v1.0.57 is available from the website
09:02 AM perry_j1987: its 1 degree here
09:03 AM perry_j1987: still bit too cold for me to want to go outside and get this ground rod installed lol
09:07 AM rdtsc-wk: At 1 degree, might as well use a very long auger bit and start drilling heh
09:24 AM perry_j1987: i got a foot down yesterday in the cold but hit a rock and gave up cause it was going to be much warmer later today heh
09:34 AM flyback: watching cee repair his big china lathe
09:37 AM flyback: right now one of the gear selectors is *CANUCKED*_
09:37 AM * flyback rubs buzzmarshall on it
09:40 AM flyback: he's milling out a new gear fork selector
09:40 AM flyback: that's one advantage to being in business so long
09:40 AM flyback: he knows how to make parts for himself :P
09:46 AM perry_j1987: everybody open up their front doors and get some heat out side... need it to warm up a bit more today here lol
09:46 AM flyback: nice piece he's milling
09:47 AM flyback: Icouldn;t handle that
09:47 AM flyback: I suck at measurements and spacial related stuff
09:47 AM flyback: like if I am trying to trace wiring path on a circuit board and had to flip it over
09:47 AM flyback: the fact everything is now inverted just shuts down my brain
09:50 AM flyback: it's neat the tools he has to find centers cause that would be one of my biggest challanges
09:51 AM flyback: like how do you center the bit when drilling because the bit itself has length and with at the point
09:57 AM flyback: there's probably some mathamatical formula or tool for doing this I just not seen
09:59 AM flyback: or like if you make a mark with a pencil, that "dot" has a length and width, how do you ensure you aren't offset a tiny bit
10:00 AM flyback: or does it just come down to tollerances don't matter enough at that size most of the time
10:28 AM memleak: thats actually an interesting point. if someone told me to cut a board in directly in half, my method would be trying to count the board in mm and divide by 2 to find the middle lol
10:29 AM memleak: feet to inches then work the rest out to mm with conversions but even then, i'm only accurate to within 1mm which for precision machining is probably not enough
10:33 AM rdtsc-wk: if stock is square, this is easy with a compass - open slightly larger than half, swing a center-dividing-arc from each corner, then a line through the two intersections. :)
10:36 AM memleak: yeah that's way easier
12:23 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
12:23 PM Unterhausen: I wonder who the uv curable wood finish companies are going to sell to once they run out of youtube influencers
12:23 PM Unterhausen: they all have that $1000 uv flashlight
12:23 PM xxcoder: lol
12:30 PM roycroft: the uv curable finishes are supposed to be pretty good
12:30 PM roycroft: but they are not maintainable
12:31 PM roycroft: i'd rather use a not quite so good finish that i can repair when needed
12:31 PM roycroft: i have a pretty nice mid-century style teak dining room table that i bought from a scandanavian furniture store (not ikea), and it has a big scratch in the top
12:32 PM roycroft: it has uv cured varnish on it
12:32 PM roycroft: i'm going to have to sand down the entire top and try to refinish it with something that matches fairly well
12:33 PM roycroft: my solution for the past quite a few years, since it got scratched, has been to keep it covered with a tablecloth at all times
12:33 PM xxcoder: cant clean it out and refll and cure?
12:33 PM roycroft: no
12:33 PM roycroft: uv cured varnish is not repairable
12:34 PM roycroft: it has to be completely removed and replaced with a different finish
12:34 PM xxcoder: all those river tables is going to be troublesome in future then
12:34 PM roycroft: teh youtube influencers tend not to think about the future
12:34 PM roycroft: well most of those are epoxy, which can be repaired
12:34 PM xxcoder: thats true
12:35 PM roycroft: but i would say that the whole concept of river tables is troublesome right now :)
12:35 PM Unterhausen: one of the influencers I saw repaired a uv finish
12:35 PM roycroft: everything i've read and otherwise learned about uv cured finishes is that they cannot be repaired
12:35 PM roycroft: perhaps that influencer did something that is not going to last
12:36 PM roycroft: or perhaps there is information that i've not seen
12:37 PM * roycroft certainly does not claim to be an authority on such finishes, having never used one himself
12:38 PM Unterhausen: I made a vanity and used one of the general finishes. Which was $25 a quart at the time. Now it's $50 a quart.
12:38 PM Unterhausen: they all went a little nuts with pricing over the pandemic
12:39 PM Unterhausen: can't fix that either, but I haven't had to
12:40 PM Unterhausen: okay, it's only $40
12:41 PM Unterhausen: I sorta understand it, I'll still pay the $40, but it's annoying
12:43 PM roycroft: good finishes can generally be applied sparingly, which helps ameliorate the high cost of the product
12:43 PM roycroft: but yeah
12:43 PM roycroft: things went way up during the pandemic - more than they needed to
12:44 PM roycroft: and now, just as inflation has finally slowed down, it's likely going to go way up again next year
12:44 PM roycroft: for reasons that make sense this time
12:47 PM Unterhausen: I'm not sure they actually make sense, but I certainly expect it
12:51 PM roycroft: i don't mean make sense in the "it's something that needs to be done" way
12:51 PM roycroft: i mean makes sense in a "it is predictable" way
12:53 PM Unterhausen: I just hope Rob Lee figures out a way around the problem
12:53 PM Unterhausen: they have a warehouse in NY

05:38 PM _unreal_: DAMN IT just pulled my beer out of the freezer. only been in there little over an hour and its already a slushy
05:39 PM _unreal_: palm to face
06:10 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, gonna order one?
06:11 PM JT-Shop: I have a C3 why would I need a ZR1 LOL
06:11 PM Tom_L: heh
06:12 PM JT-Shop: I think you can order one around February
06:13 PM JT-Shop: I bet the ADM will be 50k and up
06:13 PM Tom_L: no doubt
08:58 PM memleak: AMS 2 recently added the Z07, have yet to try it (racing sim, physics are as close as you can get to the real thing)
08:59 PM memleak: i love just a tad bit of slush in beer
09:01 PM memleak: just had one last night, <3 paulaner
09:09 PM roycroft: speaking of which, today was a great beer ay
09:09 PM roycroft: day
09:09 PM roycroft: i was at the market picking up groceries when i saw some bottles of pliny the elder
09:10 PM roycroft: it is consistently rated as the best ipa in the world, and is very rarely bottled
09:10 PM roycroft: the market where i go is the only place in eugene that gets it, and they only get it once or twice/year
09:10 PM roycroft: it sells out in hours
09:10 PM roycroft: but today was my lucky day, and i grabbed four bottles
09:11 PM memleak: i really don't get the attraction to IPAs but to each their own. They're way too bitter for me.
09:11 PM memleak: i like my lagers
09:11 PM roycroft: i got burned out on them in the '80s when the ipa craze started in the northwet
09:11 PM roycroft: but i do have one upon occasion
09:11 PM roycroft: and i'll have a pliny the elder any time i see one
09:11 PM memleak: i thought ipas took off in the last 10 years???
09:12 PM roycroft: in the rest of the world, yes
09:12 PM roycroft: but in the pacific northwet the craft beer movement got started in the 1980s, and it was all about ipa
09:12 PM memleak: ah, i'm midwest.
09:12 PM roycroft: then it moved on to california and vermont
09:12 PM roycroft: and then the rest of the country
09:15 PM memleak: The name "Juice Force" sounds delicious but it's an IPA so i'm skeptical.
09:16 PM memleak: (voodoo ranger)
09:21 PM memleak: brb
09:35 PM xxcoder: lol vevor makes everything. myfordboy is reviewing furance
09:36 PM xxcoder: and sand casting cart of some sort
09:38 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/F4SVgWmS2y8 dang his tablesaw is very jank
09:43 PM roycroft: i just got a vevor lab jack
09:43 PM roycroft: and my vinyl cutter is from vevor
09:46 PM xxcoder: interesting. not too expensive
09:46 PM * roycroft does not know, but is certain that there is a vevor espresso machine, a vevor waffle maker, a vevor excavator, vevor bedding, but maybe not vevor mac and cheese
09:46 PM roycroft: i haven't seen any sign that they are selling actual food yet
09:46 PM roycroft: or even chinese food-like stuff
09:48 PM roycroft: i am debating whether to open a bottle of pliny the elder tonight
09:48 PM roycroft: it is pizza night, and ipas pair well with pizza
09:48 PM xxcoder: fun. I used airfryer with frozen food today
09:48 PM roycroft: and the bottle says right on the label not to hoarde pliny, but to drink it fresh
09:49 PM roycroft: which is a correct direction
09:49 PM xxcoder: was quite nice. was tired of microwaved food when I ordered airfryer
09:49 PM roycroft: it's the hop schedule that really makes pliny stand above all other ipas
09:49 PM roycroft: the malt bill is incredible, too, but the hop schedule is very complex, and there is a lot of dry hopping and fermentation hopping
09:50 PM roycroft: all of which generates some very delicate flavors that fade fairly quickly
09:51 PM roycroft: it's rather ironic that the best ipa in the world needs to be consumed fresh, when the ipa style was developed to preserve an ale while on a long boat journey to india
09:53 PM roycroft: "do not save for a rainy day. pliny is for savoring, not saving"
09:53 PM * roycroft decides to obey the instructions
09:53 PM xxcoder: lol
09:54 PM memleak: Flexgui works on gentoo!
09:54 PM memleak: JT-Cave, thanks!
09:55 PM memleak: https://imgur.com/a/SIdWfIu
09:57 PM memleak: brb
11:39 PM memleak: hey have any of you guys seen turboss lately?
11:40 PM memleak: with flexgui working on gentoo, qtpyvcp is the last bit i want to get working before pushing everything out
11:41 PM memleak: `qtpyvcp -h` works, but when trying to start it with linuxcnc, i get "no module found: qtpy"
