04:24 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:48 AM Tom_L: morning
06:38 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@discord> Prep day today! prep for a medical procedure involving the "south end"....
07:14 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, I changed feedrate_lb to feed_override_lb to be consistent with rapid override do you want me to change your examples?
07:16 AM Tom_L: if you don't mind
07:16 AM Tom_L: 13.4 stone today
07:22 AM Tom_L: it may just be on tp3
07:23 AM Tom_L: tom.ui has it
07:24 AM Tom_L: mill_3.ui
07:27 AM Tom_L: mill_3_plot
07:28 AM Tom_L: or i can when i get back
07:31 AM JT-Cave: done
07:32 AM JT-Cave: I'm up to 14.5714 stone :(
07:37 AM Tom_L: started there on the 11th
07:37 AM Tom_L: 120/78 this morning
07:37 AM Tom_L: from 179/117 ish
07:38 AM Tom_L: bbl
07:44 AM JT-Cave: ok
07:58 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@discord> 21.42857 stone, here 😦
08:00 AM rdtsc-wk: 828 banannas here, d'oh
08:31 AM JT-Cave: dang running late this morning
09:18 AM lcnc-relay: <rs> why give them a gateway at all?
10:04 AM lcnc-relay: <JT> Who?
10:11 AM roycroft: rs: if you're talking about my discussion of assigning bogus gateways to devices to prevent them from accessing the outside network, most devices will not allow the network to be provisioned without assigning a gateway address in the same network as the ip address of the device
10:11 AM roycroft: so not assigning one at all is usually not an option
10:14 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@discord> Had to take mom to er
10:41 AM roycroft: will she be ok?
10:53 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop_, PR #164 up
11:02 AM lcnc-relay: <onceloved.cn@discord> What is the reason why the spindle does not reverse after tapping in g84? Z-axis motion, the spindle does not rotate
11:14 AM Tom_L: what lcnc version?
11:24 AM rmu: roycroft: what kind of devices? AFAIK even windows accepts gateways out of the subnet of the ip address, although I don't know if it accepts _no_ gateway at all...
11:25 AM roycroft: many embedded devices require a gateway in the same network - it's an idiot-proofing mechanism
11:25 AM rmu: typical trick is to use private ip address as gateway
11:25 AM rmu: to save public IPv4 addresses
11:26 AM roycroft: well of course
11:26 AM roycroft: many embedded devices cannot be explicitly configured - you turn networking on or off, and if it's on, it does dhcp or dhcp
11:27 AM roycroft: in which case you configure your internet-reachable devices with static ips, and you configure the dhcp server to use a bogus gateway for the non-configurable devices
11:27 AM rmu: and if DHCP doesnt provide a default gateway device thinks it is offline?
11:28 AM roycroft: i don't have experience with that
11:28 AM roycroft: i'd have to do some testing with various devices
11:28 AM lcnc-relay: <onceloved.cn@discord> Tom_L: 2.9.3
11:29 AM roycroft: i also never suggested that my hack is the only or best way to isolate devices from the internet via network configuration vs firwall/packe filter rules
11:29 AM roycroft: it's just something i do, and have done for decades, that i've found easy and bullet-proof
11:30 AM * roycroft wonders why he's getting pushback on it, and wonders whether he should bother sharing things any more
11:34 AM rmu: that was not intended as push-back
11:34 AM rmu: sorry
11:35 AM rmu: just curious
11:44 AM * roycroft is not having a good day generally, and decides it's best to not engage at all unless necessary until his demeanor improves
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: take a chill pill, dude. relax.............
11:50 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:05 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:20 PM Rab: Windows does not require a gateway to be set for static IP configuration, through the control panel at least. (It might automatically populate its network stack with a made-up gateway extrapolated from the network settings it does have, I've never checked for that.)
01:22 PM Rab: It doesn't seem like Linux needs an explicit gateway either...certainly I've set up many systems in peer-to-peer private subnets where outside routing was not a consideration, don't remember scratching my head over a gateway for those.
01:24 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@discord> Still waiting on test results, for mom in the er...
01:30 PM JT-Shop: what happened?
01:30 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@discord> Thinking an ulcer, but not sure yet
