12:25 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> moin
12:38 AM lcnc-relay: <turboss> good morning
01:10 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> hello
01:24 AM Deejay: moin
02:44 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Morning
03:10 AM hozed: ello
04:41 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:52 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:02 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Shop temp says 39F this morning
06:04 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> outside is 33F
06:22 AM JT-Cave: 35°F
06:27 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> thats getting cold!
06:28 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> JT-Cave: how do you get around venv?
06:32 AM JT-Cave: I've never used a virtual environment because I'm not trying to use different OS's
06:35 AM JT-Cave: venv is like when your momma said do it because I said so...
06:50 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> I hate venv, but pip install on the latest doesnt work without it
06:51 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> It has caused more trouble for the dev install than i care to think about
07:02 AM JT-Cave: I also don't use pip because I hate it
07:05 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5p-KF3yB0A
07:37 AM JT-Cave: lcvette are you using pip to distribute probe basic?
07:38 AM Tom_L: 54
07:39 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> only the dev version
07:39 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> the machine install is done via apt
07:45 AM Tom_L: why distribute them differently?
07:52 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, learned something from that video already :)
07:52 AM JT-Cave: cool
07:56 AM JT-Cave: what did you learn
07:57 AM Tom_L: setting the layout after adding widgets to the container
07:57 AM Tom_L: i haven't done anything with layout yet but thought i might on tp3
07:58 AM Tom_L: make it resizeable
07:58 AM Tom_L: unless it turns into a mess
08:04 AM JT-Cave: https://pasteboard.co/hTvYq6nMb6bt.png
08:08 AM Tom_L: did i get into trouble??
08:08 AM JT-Cave: no, you helped me make it more bullet proof
08:09 AM JT-Cave: flex now checks to see if the pin name is already in use and if so does not over write it
08:10 AM Tom_L: got all the signals tied into tp3 for the counter & rpm on the mill.. maybe i'll test that today
08:10 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
08:10 AM JT-Cave: cool
08:20 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> Tom_L: because the apt installation puts the folders at root level
08:21 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> but im all ears for a better way that makes everything editable and doesn't require venv and allows git functionality
08:41 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:42 AM JT-Cave: you could make an install script and have the user just clone the repo
08:46 AM JT-Cave: I wrote an install script for pyqtvcp years ago, do you still have that?
08:48 AM Tom_L: girls are carving pumpkins today... guess who gets to help...
08:50 AM JT-Cave: I think I know...
08:50 AM Tom_L: ready for a pr?
08:53 AM JT-Shop: yup
08:55 AM Tom_L: 146
10:27 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> good morning
10:28 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: hey, i reworked one of the probing routines. would you care to see it? and try it out ???
10:28 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> it runs as a regular gcode program.
10:39 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/kVYkDsmxSQMlxrCMZtRANuOs/probe_x.ngc
10:39 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> here it is
11:10 AM JT-Cave: errcode "M_NOT_FOUND"
11:10 AM JT-Cave: error "Not found"
11:14 AM Tom_L: roguish sure
11:15 AM Tom_L: i thought turboss fixed that
11:15 AM Tom_L: paste.debian.net works
11:15 AM JT-Cave: I think he was looking into it, dunno if he fixed it
11:16 AM Tom_L: was working this morning iirc or last night
11:16 AM JT-Cave: maybe it's flakey
11:16 AM Tom_L: no doubt
11:19 AM Tom_L: i figured on the edge routines it was better to back off a known distance than raise z and put the probe on top of the spot. not knowing where the probe was positioned to begin with
11:20 AM Tom_L: it's pretty easy to capture the value even if you back off and use that to set the axis
11:21 AM Tom_L: most of those were derived from cradek's and that's the approach he took
11:21 AM Tom_L: (safe)
11:21 AM * JT-Cave heads to town
11:22 AM Tom_L: i suppose you could put z at machine zero
11:22 AM Tom_L: lots of ways it can be done
11:59 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
12:05 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
12:15 PM rdtsc: re: python venv - mabox linux has enforced venv for some months now... major pain-in-the-ass. Used to just be able to do "python -m pip install pyserial" or whatnot and it worked... now it displays a venv warning, and MAKES you use a venv - mandatory
12:16 PM rdtsc: and for good reason... borked an OS once due to incompatible python modules
12:20 PM rdtsc: re: Travis et. al., just installed the latest 1.0.1 (two hours ago) and it seems to be running fine on Rpi 4.
12:35 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
12:59 PM JT-Cave: rdtsc_away, cool
01:28 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i don't know, i just came in in frustration... i must have something set wrong... with my estop button, or action. but i am done with THAT subject for today, as i don't want to fight it too hard 😉
01:28 PM lcnc-relay: i did however get my signal tower outputs working correctly. my comp wasn't perfect, but i solved it with the use of the oneshot hal component (so my buzzer only sounds for a second, rather than continuous)
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: <alessandroemm> Hey there, I have a gantry style machine with two servo on Y driving each side in sync. I have two end stops for each side. The gantry is rigidly mounted on two linear rails.
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: Does it even make sense to have two end stops?
01:42 PM Rab: Two end stops for each side, or two end stops total?
01:43 PM Rab: An end stop at both ends of each of the two Y-axis rails?
01:48 PM lcnc-relay: <alessandroemm> i got the nomenclature wrong, i meant homing switches - not limit switches, sorry
01:49 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: http://paste.debian.net/1332675/
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: <alessandroemm> to rephrase my question: Does it makes sense to have one on each side of the gantry for a rigid one? I mean I have second one ready, but I imagine setiting up two homeing switches and getting them to be switched over in the same sub millimeter could be tedious and probably not with much benefit?
01:51 PM Rab: alessandroemm, I see. You're asking if you should have homing switches per servo (2), or per axis (1)?
01:52 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> alessandroemm: is it driven on one side, or both sides? can it get skewed, cocked sideways?
01:52 PM Rab: Yeah, I think either one switch will never come into play at all, or they'll randomly trade depending on physical factors and phase of the moon, and your machine won't be repeatable. I'd use one homing switch.
01:53 PM xxcoder: JT-Cave: nice video
01:58 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> any American diabetic (insulin dependent) folks in here? my family is in a dilemma ... my fathers insulin expires today, the Rx has none for a month of this, or like same insulin (vials). the Rx says we can not use the insulin past the expired date. what can we do?
02:00 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Travis Farmer: expiration dates are BS. it's not like a light switch. is may begin to degrade a bit, but it does not fall off a cliff.
02:00 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> ok, but a month?
02:01 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> don't know exactly.. ya gotta ask an honest Dr.
02:01 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> google it.....
02:02 PM Rab: Travis Farmer, stored in the fridge?
02:02 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> my fracking epi pens say they expire 1 yr. even my Dr. gave me a 6 month extension for it.....
02:02 PM xxcoder: if 6 month is fine, then one month should be even more fine
02:03 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> xxcoder: that was for an epi pen. not insulin
02:03 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yes rab
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Travis Farmer: google the shit out of it. look all over everywhere... ask in forums
02:04 PM Rab: I'm not diabetic, or personally familiar with the details, but insulin seems pretty fragile. https://diabetesstrong.com/does-insulin-expire/
02:05 PM xxcoder: https://insulinoutlet.com/expired-insulin/ dunno how good that site is
02:05 PM Rab: Article has an AI "feel", but there seem to be real comments at the bottom. Sounds more like milk than like aspirin, in terms of expiration. One person advises to watch blood sugar carefully if you do use it, to make sure it's having the needed effect.
02:06 PM xxcoder: it does list apperence of what it looks like when it have gone too bad to use
02:06 PM Rab: yeah
02:07 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> mom is checking the "appearance" now
02:07 PM Rab: The pharmacy can't check around for another place that might have it? "Sorry, try back in a month" is a shit-ass pharmacy.
02:08 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> wal-mart... the other rx has none either
02:08 PM Rab: No CVS etc in the area?
02:08 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> no
02:08 PM Rab: They should have the power to hand off the script to an outside pharmacy...
02:08 PM xxcoder: kinda worried about mine too lol. might be late on couple
02:09 PM Rab: Dang, man
02:09 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I buy my asthma meds from India https://www.alldaychemist.com/
02:11 PM xxcoder: checked for one medicine I need. it costs way more than what id get here. I pay a dollar or two. I pay way more for shipping than medicine as I dont wanna drive to walgreen
02:18 PM lcnc-relay: <alessandroemm> @Rab roguish000 both sides can be driven
02:19 PM lcnc-relay: <alessandroemm> * driven, per one axis (Y)
02:25 PM lcnc-relay: <alessandroemm> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/gUKLGhXheCuIwQrDdFCDteIg/image.png
02:25 PM lcnc-relay: <alessandroemm> Both red circles have a servo + a home switch
02:27 PM Tom_L: roguish, it's not a great idea to put G0 X0 Y0 Z0 all on one line... it will take a diagonal path right thru the vise etc
02:29 PM JT-Shop: yup
02:29 PM xxcoder: plus you cant reliably see how it moves when moving on all 3 axis. id always make it move at 2 axis max
02:29 PM xxcoder: (fine when its cutting complex part but yeah)
02:33 PM Tom_L: roguish, don't follow what you're doing on #14
02:35 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:36 PM Tom_dev: for #14: [#[5203 + #5220 * 20]] will return the current offset and [#[5203 + #5220 * 20] + #5213 * #5210] will including any G92
02:36 PM Tom_L: not sure at all what ROUND does for ya
02:43 PM {HD}_ is now known as {HD}
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> JT, how to i set a float precision (decimal places) so a long string of decimal numbers won't bounce around my UI?
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> for a HAL label
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> HAL_IN
02:59 PM Tom_L: iirc in the ui
03:00 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> the dynamic property "precision"?
03:00 PM Tom_dev: i think that might be it
03:03 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> ok, will try it tomorrow. thanks 🙂 the bouncing value was jumping my UI all over the place 🙂
03:03 PM Tom_dev: if i find one i did i'll pass it on.. i know i've done that
03:03 PM Tom_dev: but forgot what it was
03:05 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> just wasn't sure if he coded it to the hal labels yet or not
03:06 PM Tom_dev: pretty sure it's one you can set or override
03:07 PM Tom_dev: https://www.gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/labels.html#precision
03:07 PM Tom_dev: there ya go
03:08 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> ok, thanks
03:09 PM JT-Shop: first issue has cropped up the potentiometer is 22mm and the button boxes are 30mm
03:09 PM Tom_L: oops
03:09 PM JT-Shop: fedex here
03:10 PM Tom_L: so do the buttons or the boxes go back?
03:12 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> or do you mill out custom plates for the boxes?
03:12 PM JT-Shop: eaton makes 22mm to 30mm adapters and I'll have them by tueday
03:13 PM Tom_L: travis i doubt that's an option on this project
03:13 PM Tom_L: ahh
03:13 PM JT-Shop: zoro to the rescue
03:13 PM Tom_L: working on the remote boxes then?
03:15 PM Tom_L: i think roguish's routine works ok but don't think it's a generic option since it's on a set path for edges. nobody knows where the edge will be from one to the next
03:15 PM JT-Shop: yup, enclosure is not here yet
03:16 PM Tom_L: not quite sure just yet why it loaded showing a path it never ran
03:18 PM Tom_dev: for a particular known setup i think it would be great
03:20 PM Tom_L: i let the probe distance run out to show the unused path: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/probe_path.png
03:21 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> as you already said, Tom_L, yours are generic examples. users should test them and make changes to suit their machines.
03:21 PM Tom_dev: mine you jog close then probe instead of a predetermined path
03:22 PM Tom_dev: i fully expect them to be customized and hope they are
03:22 PM Tom_dev: the basics are there
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> right
03:24 PM JT-Shop: yup that makes sense to put the probe within some distance of the part then probe
03:27 PM Tom_dev: i'm not sure what the rounding line does but it returns G54 even if you're using a different offset
03:28 PM Tom_dev: doesn't help when you're setting up multiple fixture offsets
03:28 PM Tom_dev: the lines i posted above return the current offset
03:29 PM Tom_dev: i did notice a couple minor edits i should do or at least check
03:30 PM Tom_dev: just in the return text to the user
03:31 PM JT-Shop: almost beer thirty here
03:32 PM * roycroft has an hour and a half to go before work is over
03:32 PM Tom_dev: gettin close
03:32 PM roycroft: then i get to install more insulation
03:32 PM roycroft: the shop is already noticeably warmer in the morning with just the one wall sealed and insulated
03:33 PM roycroft: it's probably the sealing more than the insulation that is making the difference
03:33 PM roycroft: i am also still on my first can of spray foam, and i have almost half the shop sealed
03:33 PM JT-Shop: when I put real good door seals on the garage it made a huge difference
03:34 PM roycroft: with the throw-away cans i'd have gone through at leat a half a dozen already, and that's only if i was able to use most of the can before the tube clogged
03:34 PM roycroft: yeah, just stopping the air flow makes a big difference
03:34 PM roycroft: and i'm taking care to seal things up pretty tightly
03:35 PM roycroft: even behind the insulation, in the wall cavities, i'm spraying foam into any gaps between the studs and the outer wall sheathing
03:35 PM roycroft: i figure a little extra time and expense now will gain me much greater comfort and cost savings over time
03:38 PM roycroft: it's tough though - i was so close to having a functional shop when i decided i should do the insulation and interior walls now, instead of next spring
03:38 PM * roycroft keeps telling himself that patience is good for the soul
03:38 PM Tom_dev: JT-Shop, PR #147
03:39 PM Tom_dev: so i don't forget to do it
03:39 PM Tom_dev: 1 out of 40+ isn't too bad
03:49 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
03:54 PM rdtsc: alessandroemm, you'll have to treat a two-Y gantry like it *can* be twisted (about Z), since the motors *can* do that. Homing that involves moving both motors to their home position, then backing one of them off a certain amount (set in the .ini file) to make X perpendicular to Y. Will need a micrometer and X reference surface. See https://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/config/ini-homing.html
03:55 PM rdtsc: well not a micrometer but a spindle-mounted gauge
03:59 PM _unreal_: sup
04:01 PM _unreal_: thats the one thing that sucks about my setup. I'd have to hard mount a guage. there is nothing to mag mount to :/
04:02 PM rdtsc: ditto... was thinking, could turn a piece of bigger round stock to fit in a collet, and use that for a magnetic base-indicator.
04:06 PM rdtsc: Wow, careful if using browser shopping - showing mostly
04:06 PM rdtsc: Temu brand items... https://duckduckgo.com/?q=magnetic+base+dial+test+indicator&t=opera&iar=shopping&iax=shopping&ia=shopping
04:12 PM rdtsc: Temu = every last Chinese dollar-store remarketed to the world... https://time.com/6243738/temu-app-complaints/ essentially, avoid
04:14 PM xxcoder: meh temus been fine to me
04:14 PM xxcoder: just dont expect much
04:15 PM * rdtsc would rather not feed that animal...
04:15 PM xxcoder: I dont use the app, nor do I invite people or play games or whatever
04:16 PM rdtsc: lot of contreversy about the app, spying and whatnot
04:16 PM xxcoder: I just buy stuff I might be interested in and dont care too much about quality
04:16 PM roycroft: speaking of china, i see that tfg's bibles are printed in china
04:16 PM roycroft: is he going to charge himself a 100% tariff on them?
04:16 PM xxcoder: I assume any and all app specific to store as spyware
04:18 PM rdtsc: prolly *say* he charged himself, then write it off at tax-time somehow
04:19 PM xxcoder: he famously dont pay so he wont pay himself
04:23 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, don't forget when you update the examples you have to build a deb to have those updates included
04:26 PM rdtsc: How's the panel coming JT?
04:26 PM JT-Shop: I have everything but the enclosure and 3 vfd
04:26 PM JT-Shop: d
04:26 PM JT-Shop: s
04:26 PM JT-Shop: working on the remote stations
04:27 PM rdtsc: They gonna wire them up, or making you do it?
04:27 PM rdtsc: on-site
04:28 PM JT-Shop: I have to install it
04:28 PM rdtsc: cool, well hope all goes well and easy
04:28 PM JT-Shop: me too
04:28 PM JT-Shop: it's a pretty big project for an old fart lol
04:29 PM rdtsc: and hope they don't open the main control cabinet and it greets you with 1700 relays LOL
04:30 PM rdtsc: actually had a customer send in their relay-logic cabinet once... hundreds and hundreds of relays... was shocked anything like that still existed
04:33 PM JT-Shop: https://pasteboard.co/nugoIElkKUol.jpg
04:33 PM JT-Shop: https://pasteboard.co/AoSRPM1Ouw7C.jpg
04:33 PM xxcoder: test placement eh
04:34 PM xxcoder: qoq\
04:34 PM xxcoder: *wow
04:35 PM rdtsc: lookin' sharp :)
04:37 PM rdtsc: I settled on a cheap label-maker: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/replacement_for/1194580-REG/brother_pt_d210_label_maker.html works well enough
04:39 PM JT-Shop: I really like the epson printer it doesn't waste any material
04:39 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
04:42 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, yeah i usually wait until you've pulled it all in
04:42 PM Tom_L: that update was pretty insignificant
04:43 PM JT-Shop: ok just reminding you
04:43 PM Tom_L: :)
04:43 PM Tom_L: somebody needs to keep track of me
04:46 PM JT-Shop: I never expected flex to end up as good as it is now... I'm just stoked
04:46 PM Tom_L: you should be proud like a daddy with a newborn kid :)
04:47 PM JT-Shop: lol
04:47 PM xxcoder: flex looked good on your video jt
04:47 PM Tom_L: #148 and there's yer deb
04:47 PM xxcoder: discord has flex channel but its not bridged
04:47 PM xxcoder: nor public
04:48 PM Tom_L: i'm really hardpressed to think of what else could go into it
04:48 PM JT-Shop: #flex-dev is for bug reports when I'm not around
04:49 PM Tom_L: if somebody really gets after the qss stuff it could be quite fancy too
04:49 PM Tom_L: ain't gonna be me
04:49 PM Tom_L: lucky i got this far with it
04:50 PM Tom_L: doesn't affect performance but marketing is where it's at in the world :)
04:52 PM JT-Shop: I'm hoping the videos give flex a boost
04:52 PM JT-Shop: I have 22 planned at the moment
04:52 PM Tom_L: they should if ppl watch em
04:52 PM Tom_L: how many takes does it take to get one?
04:53 PM JT-Shop: usually 1 or 2
04:53 PM Tom_L: what do you use for screen capture?
04:53 PM JT-Shop: simple screen recorder
04:56 PM JT-Shop: I need to putz with the quality of the recording
04:57 PM Tom_L: i don't have audio in on anything here. no mics
04:57 PM JT-Shop: I do the audio after recording
04:57 PM JT-Shop: no speakers?
04:58 PM Tom_L: speakers on this one but that's it
05:00 PM Tom_L: and some decent logos thanks to (i forgot who)
05:00 PM JT-Shop: I really like the flex logo
05:00 PM Tom_L: yup
05:07 PM JT-Shop: one thing I think I need to do on the videos is to take a bit more time explaining things which would make it easier to have subtitles
05:10 PM xxcoder: can easily get autocaptions, fix few wrong words and upload it as english
05:10 PM xxcoder: caption
05:27 PM JT-Shop: how do you do that?
05:28 PM xxcoder: I tried that caption downloader, it says it dont work since aug 25 2024. great. im sure theres ulitity to download it, only for video uploaders
05:29 PM xxcoder: but I dont know how that would be done
05:31 PM Tom_L: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6373554?hl=en
05:32 PM Tom_L: never tried captions
05:33 PM xxcoder: oh yt has its own editor now? interesting
05:33 PM Tom_L: dunno anything about it...
05:59 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
06:06 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: so, what do ya think?
06:07 PM _unreal_: auto captioning is just speach recognistion. its ok
06:16 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
06:17 PM rdtsc: hmm, is there any easy way to run pika backup in Debian? https://apps.gnome.org/PikaBackup/
06:18 PM rdtsc: rust-based for GNOME with flatpack primary installer
06:18 PM rdtsc: wonder if recompiling is possible / how many rabbit holes that would entail
06:28 PM Tom_L: roguish, i posted some comments earlier about it
06:29 PM Tom_L: some of it i don't quite get but if it works for you that's what matters
06:29 PM Tom_L: the ROUND line on #14 i think it was makes it default to G54
06:31 PM Tom_L: and i definitely wouldn't do a G0 X0 Y0 Z0 all on the same line or it could take a diagonal path right thru a vise etc
06:31 PM Tom_L: i always move Z up before X & Y
06:34 PM Tom_L: when i loaded the file and ran it, it showed a path but only ran about half of it. not sure what the rest is for
06:34 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/probe_path.png
06:34 PM Tom_L: as shown
06:36 PM mrec: Mitsubishi is really genius ... G54, G55, etc. are an option that can be bought
06:36 PM Tom_L: 54 isn't a default on it?
06:36 PM Tom_L: what do they do, use world coordinates?
06:37 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> holy shit now thats a 2024 business model if ive ever seen one
06:38 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> or a "maintence" package on g54, needs a yearly payment
06:38 PM Tom_L: big_k, you got your probe routine working didn't you?
06:38 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> yeah mostly
06:38 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i need to clean it up
06:38 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> and make it a remap, and add the oprobe exception
06:39 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> then today i saw poketnc had one already posted i never looked ar
06:39 PM Tom_L: on that one which i didn't really include in the examples i exclude T99 for the probe and ignore it in the code
06:40 PM Tom_L: so it always returns a zero offset for that tool
06:40 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> lol, i went to include that section the next day and the debian pastebin already expired
06:40 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> and i was embarassed so i didnt ask again
06:41 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:42 PM Tom_dev: o102 if [#5400 EQ 99]
06:42 PM Tom_dev: #<zworkoffset> = 0
06:42 PM Tom_dev: o102 endif
06:42 PM Tom_L: pretty simple really
06:42 PM Tom_dev: o101 if [#5400 GT 0] ; Tool must be non zero to set
06:42 PM Tom_dev: G10 L1 P#5400 Z#<zworkoffset> (set new tool offset)
06:42 PM Tom_dev: (debug, Successful probe.)
06:42 PM Tom_dev: o101 else
06:42 PM Tom_dev: (debug,Tool must be non zero)
06:42 PM Tom_dev: o101 endif
06:43 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> yeah i need to work it in now
06:43 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> and figure out how to not use goto statements
06:44 PM Tom_L: i think you said you're using a different Gcode from G10
06:44 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> here i githubbed it
06:44 PM Tom_L: i have it here somewhere
06:44 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> https://github.com/cakeslob/RRW_LAB/blob/main/LinuxCNC/ConfigSamples/remora-RRW_LAB_toolset/macros/tool_sensor.ngc
06:45 PM mrec: Tom_L: g54 is default but if you trigger G54 it will throw an error, so only G92 can be used
06:45 PM Tom_L: no you're using G10
06:45 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> yeah but
06:45 PM Tom_L: mrec, that sucks
06:45 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> 11 i think, instyead of 1
06:45 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> oh rigfht
06:45 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i figured out the math, so im using l1 now also
06:45 PM mrec: linuxcnc will be coming onto that machine next year, this year I'll just use it as it is
06:46 PM Tom_L: we can sell you any of the G54..59 you like
06:46 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> ill even sell a g53
06:47 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> willing to part with g59.2 , NIB NOS never uised
06:48 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i need to start using includes in my ini files
06:48 PM Tom_L: you don't?
06:48 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> looking through the pocketNC repo, its so nice andf clean and full of includes
06:48 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> not yet i havwent
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i should be for when i progressively make my machines,
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> instead of 10 duifferent configs
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i could just use .inc with the new stuff
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i think phil for plasmac uses it also
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i think about it ebvery time i need to add something, like the probve screen
06:50 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> it could probably just be an .inc so you only need to change 1 line in the ini file
06:52 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> also need to do my pre/post amble remaps
06:53 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> the cnc at work has remaps for the start and end of any toolpath that gets posted
06:54 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> g100 and g200, basically just sends it z to the top and g200 sends it to the "home/park" position closest to the door
06:54 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i crashed my baby machine hard yesterday and blew a fuse, because i was expecting it to go up on z when i started witrh a run from line
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> f';d up the bearings a lil too, but the endmill didnt break, just everything else
07:00 PM rdtsc: Dang kevin, oops.
07:14 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> lol yeah, but after the spindle stopped skidding, it was fine
07:14 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> gonna go cut some more and find out
07:22 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i wonder if they crash cnc on purpose at the cnc factory
07:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/GChccaiijfDlCnGqFCpVDRjJ/PXL_20241019_002244228.MP.jpg
07:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> still amazing
07:34 PM roycroft: another sheet of osb installed
07:34 PM * roycroft ponders pushing for doing yet another one today
07:35 PM roycroft: the installation goes fast - it's the hour that it takes to sand a sheet before installing that's the issue
07:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> sanding osb?
07:36 PM roycroft: yes
07:37 PM roycroft: it's the finished wall material for the inside of my shop
07:37 PM roycroft: i'm not sanding it perfectly smooth, but getting it substantially smoother
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> ah.. Lol - I thought under shingles..
07:37 PM roycroft: then i'll paint it
07:38 PM roycroft: i'll be using it for exterior sheathing and roof decking, but it won't be sanded for that
07:38 PM roycroft: it will be covered up almost immediately
07:39 PM roycroft: i took a sample and sanded it to P220, then tried various forms of whitewash-like paint to see if i could find something i liked
07:39 PM roycroft: i want it to be a very light grey, and by doing the whitewash effect i thought it might look cool for the osb texture to show through
07:39 PM roycroft: but everything i did looked like crap, so i'll just do an opaque paint finish on it
07:41 PM roycroft: and i should be able to start painting in a few days
07:42 PM roycroft: i have to do the painting tetris-style just like the installation, so it will be painted in 4-6 stages
