01:34 AM Deejay: moin
01:45 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hello
03:01 AM lcnc-relay: <oz7137> want it demystified ? i could give it a try...
04:01 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:08 AM JT-Cave1: 37°F
05:08 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:37 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> Chilli
06:37 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> Morning
06:41 AM JT-Cave: hey lcvette
06:42 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> o/
06:42 AM JT-Cave: got the brakes done on the 82 and the headlights work as in light up and go up and down
06:42 AM JT-Cave: and I've figured out the steering wheel and horn
06:42 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> nice! stopping and seeing is good!
06:43 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> turning also
06:43 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> 😄
06:43 AM JT-Cave: it's ready for inspection now but the tie rods are not adjusted properly
06:43 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> good alignment shop can sort that
06:44 AM JT-Cave: yup
06:45 AM JT-Cave: I ended up replacing the calipers, master cylinder, rotors, hoses, lines on the rear and the pads
06:45 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> when does the zz502 go in?
06:48 AM JT-Cave: holy crap that's more hp than my c8
06:49 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> its a musclecar man
06:49 AM JT-Cave: I don't think the 700r4 can take that much power
06:50 AM JT-Cave: in Eureka Springs at the Corvette Weekend there was a C1 with a LS3 engine
06:50 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> plop a newer 8L90E 8 speed in it
06:50 AM JT-Cave: and a couple of C3's with LS1 engines
06:50 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> yeah LS swaps are pretty common practice
06:51 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> but the C3 was offered with a bigblock so direct fit parts are probably easy and available
06:51 AM JT-Cave: yup a friend has a 454 in his c3
06:52 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> be a fun project the the 350 is tired
06:53 AM JT-Cave: 90k miles on the 350 but it runs good with the carb, the crossfire is in a box lol
06:53 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> good place for it
06:53 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> hang on to it, it will be worth something someday being it was so short lived
06:54 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> i have 2 rochester complete fuel injection units from the C2 era that have become quite valuable
06:55 AM JT-Cave: I met a guy here that has a collection and one is a 63 fuely
06:56 AM JT-Cave: took be a while to sort out the horn components lol
06:58 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> yeah the entire system is pretty interesting
06:58 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> but its very effective
06:58 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> not much revs like a mechanical fuelie car
07:00 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> i just rebuilt a 64 fuelie unit on a 327 and it turned out great, had to make a couple parts that we could not find anywhere that needed replacing
07:11 AM JT-Cave: cool
07:11 AM JT-Cave: after I get it to stop and turn next is a leak somewhere in the power steering and I assume a rear main seal is leaking too
07:13 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> leaks are always fun
07:14 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> i do like the newer ls style gasket designes that rely very little on sealants and have perfect fit and sealing capabilities, much dewer leaks
07:14 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> and less of a pain to clean surfaces if you are replacing components
07:28 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukwunHGCglk
07:29 AM JT-Cave: can you change the rear main seal without pulling the engine?
07:43 AM Tom_L: truck dropped off for service
07:44 AM JT-Cave: I have about 750 miles to go before the next service on the truck
07:46 AM Tom_L: rear seal is a pain on anything
08:14 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_SMoJ9sYbI
08:15 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
08:21 AM Tom_L: you're gettin quite a few of those YT
08:30 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, PR # 138
08:31 AM Tom_L: added tp3 example
08:46 AM Tom_L: i removed a png... it's not part of the example
08:46 AM JT-Cave: ok
08:47 AM Tom_L: i was trying a background and forgot to remove it
08:59 AM JT-Cave: on probe 3 shouldn't the probe enable button be on the probe tab?
09:03 AM Tom_L: i left it out so it's easy to switch between mdi and probe
09:04 AM Tom_L: i can move it if you think it's better
09:04 AM Tom_L: there are interactions with other tabs is why i left it out
09:32 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:33 AM JT-Shop: makes sense to me
09:37 AM Tom_L: trying to get an image to show but the black background always takes over
09:39 AM Tom_L: inside a widget or frame container
09:46 AM rdtsc-wk: currently 3D printing a two-part jig to guide 1.25in x 1/16 acrylic to a 3/8 mill-end... need to trim a 5ft stick to 0.995 width
09:54 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, probe enable should be disabled during program run
10:08 AM _unreal_: !@#%!@#$ so tired of being sick
10:08 AM _unreal_: #%$!@#$ owner of the company got sick over sea's came back and had a closed door the next day getting off the plane, got all the managers sick who have now gotten all the employees sick
10:08 AM _unreal_: I'm out today
10:19 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/touch-probe3/touch-probe3-chips.png
10:22 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> better screen arrangement
10:24 AM Tom_L: it's in examples now less the logo
10:24 AM Tom_L: need to push that
10:36 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, PR #140
10:38 AM JT-Shop: Tom_L, agree probe enable should be disabled when a program is running but what about a mdi?
10:40 AM Tom_L: mdi is disabled when probe is active
10:41 AM Tom_L: i don't quite follow
10:41 AM Tom_L: mdi is also disabled during program run
10:42 AM Tom_L: does disabling the probe enable during program run affect what it does to mdi?
10:42 AM JT-Shop: should running a mdi command disable probe enable?
10:42 AM JT-Shop: I don't think it does
10:42 AM * JT-Shop gets back to cleanup on asle 3
10:43 AM Tom_L: if i push probe enable to activate it, mdi is disabled and vise versa
10:43 AM Tom_L: the probe routines aren't active until probe enable is pushed
10:45 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: how about manual jogging ??? that should stay active so ya can jog to probing position
10:46 AM Tom_L: it's kindof a logic puzzle ehh?
10:46 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> a bit
10:47 AM Tom_L: i've been jogging to position then pushing the probe button
10:47 AM Tom_L: the button is more of a safety catch
10:47 AM Tom_L: i'm not sure you get the best of both worlds on this one
10:49 AM JT-Shop: IMHO once you press the probe enable only probe routines can be done
10:49 AM JT-Shop: turn off probing to jog...
10:49 AM Tom_L: yeah that's the safe approach
10:50 AM Tom_L: you set tools before running a program, jog to position before probing....
10:50 AM Tom_L: it's a tradeoff
10:50 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> that could work. just need some docs on the whole gig
10:50 AM rdtsc-wk: all the damaged probes of the world will thank u
10:50 AM Tom_L: ppl read those?
10:50 AM Tom_L: i did try to add tool tips to the settings
10:55 AM Tom_L: roguish, note the settings aren't persistent if you change them. adjust them to your liking and edit the ui file defaults
10:56 AM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/probe.html
10:57 AM Tom_L: the docs have improved alot over the last few weeks
10:58 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, the image thing was fault of no border defined... i should have known
10:59 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: not persistent ?
10:59 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> oh, come on
10:59 AM Tom_L: not sure that's possible to update the ui file easily
11:00 AM Tom_L: have a stab at it :)
11:00 AM Tom_L: they could be stored in the ini or an auxillary file but that's alot of work jt doesn't wanna do right now
11:01 AM Tom_L: and what happens if you add a setting?
11:02 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> actually it is. you can write them to .var variables.
11:03 AM Tom_L: he does write to a config file already
11:03 AM Tom_L: i'm sure it could be added
11:03 AM Tom_L: just like your 'recents' file list etc
11:04 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> i always forget where those things are in the docs
11:04 AM Tom_L: .config/Flex folder
11:06 AM JT-Shop: I'll be damned it was a wood rat in the wood pile
11:06 AM JT-Shop: or known as a pack rat and a big one
11:07 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roast him
11:08 AM Tom_L: did he put up a fight/
11:08 AM Tom_L: ?
11:10 AM Tom_L: roguish, those are kindof set it and forget it settings anyway
11:10 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: look here. you can add parameters that stay put. http://linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/gcode/overview.html#sec:overview-parameters
11:11 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> i've done it
11:11 AM Tom_L: i never doubted
11:13 AM Tom_L: not as effective for an example that could end up anywhere with my local settings
11:13 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: new deb 2 hours ago...
11:14 AM Tom_L: mostly doc edits i think
11:14 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> is probe3 in it?
11:14 AM Tom_L: it should be
11:15 AM Tom_L: the logo may not be in it
11:16 AM Tom_L: rather proud of that i may add :)
11:16 AM Tom_L: .. i've never used gimp
11:18 AM JT-Shop: rouguish >?
11:18 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> what?
11:19 AM JT-Shop: <lcnc-relay> <roguish> JT-Shop: new deb 2 hours ago...
11:19 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> that's what github says
11:19 AM JT-Shop: sometimes you have to leave the flexgui repo and come back for the latest info
11:21 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> i did
11:22 AM * JT-Shop gets back to cleaning the shop up for the deluge of packages tomorrow
11:23 AM Tom_L: mail man will love you
11:24 AM JT-Shop: fedsex
11:25 AM Tom_L: you heard fedex and ups are merging?..... fedup
11:26 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: I don't find touch_probe3 in the new deb
11:27 AM Tom_L: gimme a sec and i'll make one just for you :)
11:27 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> no no don't gotta do that
11:27 AM Tom_L: did you copy the examples again?
11:27 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> yes
11:27 AM Tom_L: i keep a set updated here anyway.. no big deal
11:28 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I always rename the old examples file, then use JT's copy routing
11:28 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> routine
11:29 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/
11:35 AM JT-Shop: I like chips in tp3 :)
11:36 AM Tom_L: i finally figured out how to scale those things
11:47 AM JT-Cave: what do you think of my cobbled up video tutorials?
11:48 AM Tom_L: i think they're great
11:48 AM Tom_L: no bs commercials either :)
11:48 AM JT-Cave: and no in your face or stupid music
11:49 AM * JT-Cave hears a nap calling his name
11:49 AM Tom_L: maybe add some iron maiden in the background :)
11:50 AM JT-Cave: pink floyd or moody blues :)
11:50 AM Tom_L: stairway to heaven may outlast the videos
11:50 AM JT-Cave: yup, they are short
11:51 AM JT-Cave: no point in rambling on about useless crap
11:52 AM JT-Cave: I was surprised to see Jeff respond to mail in the dev mail
11:52 AM Tom_L: i missed that
11:52 AM Tom_L: not on that list
12:07 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: hey. i stored search_feed in the parameters file. but i don't know how to read the .var file and put it in the gui
12:08 PM Tom_L: yeah
12:08 PM Tom_L: that's gonna take some python probably and that's a jt thing
12:09 PM Tom_L: the alternative would be to edit all the subroutines to point to your vars and make sure they're all set before you run any
12:09 PM Tom_L: then you wouldn't need the settings in the gui
12:12 PM Tom_L: .var only saves number parameters right?
12:13 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> yes. i believe so
12:13 PM Tom_L: what is the range of persistent user vars there?
12:13 PM Tom_L: 31-5000 are reserved for user but are volatile
12:14 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> those are persistent
12:14 PM Tom_L: the docs say different
12:15 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> the variable number has to be there first.
12:15 PM Tom_L: ahh yeah i remember something about that
12:15 PM Tom_L: i've never tried it
12:17 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok, gotta to to Lowe's. they messed up a return. shorted me $$$$
12:17 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> bbl
12:17 PM roycroft: i don't shop at lowe's any more
12:18 PM roycroft: they keep begging me to come back, but then they drive me away when i go there, so i don't go there
12:18 PM roycroft: the local lowe's don't have any cashiers any more
12:18 PM roycroft: all they have is the self-checkout
12:18 PM roycroft: and there are usually 3-4 employees huddled together at the self-checkout, totally ignoring customers
12:19 PM roycroft: but the last straw for me is when i went to buy some electrical wire there
12:19 PM roycroft: there were many packages of it in the electrical section, all locked up
12:20 PM roycroft: i called for help, and after a bit someone wandered over and said they were not allowed to unlock it, and that i needed to go to the pro desk to get the wire
12:20 PM roycroft: i went there, and the guy at the pro desk said he did not have a key for his supply of wire and could not get it for me
12:21 PM roycroft: so i went back to electrical and told them that the pro desk could not get it for me, and asked again for them to unlock the wire and get me a package of it
12:21 PM roycroft: they refused
12:21 PM roycroft: i even suggested that they pull the wire out, retain posession of it, and walk with me to the checkout to ensure that i paid for it
12:21 PM roycroft: they still refused, and said the pro desk was my only option
12:22 PM roycroft: the other option was to go to home depot to get it, which i did
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- is feeling totally dizzy after his shower 😕
12:24 PM roycroft: so my boss asked me a short while ago to drop what i'm doing and clone a website for him immediately, as he had a very time-sensitive issue to deal with
12:24 PM roycroft: i did exactly that
12:25 PM roycroft: and the clone just finihsed
12:25 PM roycroft: i let him know, and he emailed me back and said "i wish you hadn't done that so fast - i changed my mind and i want it cloned to a different name. we shouldn't rush into things like that"
12:26 PM rdtsc-wk: errr...
12:26 PM roycroft: it's going to be one of those days :)
12:26 PM rdtsc-wk: 3rd Monday, all day :)
12:31 PM rdtsc-wk: was curious if there was a run-time or distance counter: https://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man9/time.9.html and https://forum.linuxcnc.org/gmoccapy/40709-gmocappy-clock?start=50#203809 but all for specific GUIs
12:35 PM Tom_L: rdtsc-wk, not in flex yet
12:36 PM Tom_L: i have one on my axis screen
12:36 PM Tom_L: if it's accessable with the python interface it's likely in flex
12:37 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/screenshots/Current_Linuxcnc_Axis_screen.png
12:37 PM Tom_L: cycle times
12:37 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> it would look good with the hours, minutes, and seconds each in a small LCD
12:37 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i have cycle times in HAL, but not in flex yet
12:39 PM Tom_L: i see a nap in my near future
12:39 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> what's the cycle time on that? 😉
12:39 PM Tom_L: rdtsc-wk, dtg is in the plotter iirc
12:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yes, it is
12:43 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> would not be hard to make a cycle time/machine time label, i would not think. just join hours, minutes, and seconds into a string delimited by :
12:50 PM xxcoder: woke up to 72 humidity. ouch. feels like walking in water lol. outside is cold and sunny, which is great for gettuing rid of humidity
12:53 PM roycroft: it's overcast here and cool
12:53 PM roycroft: we had a wee bit of rain last night, but not what was forecast
12:53 PM roycroft: and more rain is coming this evening
12:53 PM xxcoder: sunny and cool here. if I had tricycle I'd be riding it out today
12:53 PM roycroft: and all day tomorrow
12:54 PM roycroft: the weather will be decent enough that i could set up outside to sand one of the osb panels today after work, but i have a dinner engagement this evening, and i only have enough time to do the sanding, not including set up and take down
12:55 PM roycroft: i need to get this next panel done soon, so i can do the tetris thing and open up the space for the last two panels on that wall
01:17 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- is trying his hand at adding a HAL LCD display to flex... who knows what will happen 🙂
01:18 PM _unreal_: roycroft, dont complete it too fast or you will wish You had not completed the two panels in a hurry.
01:30 PM roycroft: it will all be done well, but as quickly as i can get it done
01:30 PM roycroft: i want to start using my shop
01:30 PM roycroft: so while i won't rush, i also won't dilly-dally
01:36 PM Guest41: Hello, I would like to be able to compile the rs274ngc interpreter out of linuxcnc, but am unsure due to the way how its built and its lack of a main file. Do any of you know how I could do that?
01:36 PM roycroft: it is lunch time, so i should go get itchy and install some insulation
01:41 PM Tom_L: Guest41, https://forum.linuxcnc.org/20-g-code/34457-compiling-rs274
01:41 PM Tom_L: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?StandAloneInterpreter
01:41 PM Tom_L: note the date on the last post
01:46 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- is finding he is not as good a programmer as JT 😦
01:50 PM xxcoder: no matter how good you are, theres always better. just do best as you can do and enjoy the life
01:50 PM xxcoder: 55% feels a lot better than 72% humidity in cool weather lol
01:51 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> but i don't understand how he updates from hal pins... i think i have it so it creates a hal pin... but it needs to update from it...
01:54 PM JT-Shop: I don't have any hal readers yet just setters
01:55 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> maybe thats why i could not find any...
01:58 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> now i am left with what to do with my code... i created a branch on my fork...
02:03 PM JT-Shop: you could try and add that feature to your fork
02:10 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i tried but couldn't figure it out, so i just have it sitting in a branch for now.
02:36 PM roycroft: _unreal_: as part of the tetris game i'm playing in my shop i needed to spray some more foam insulation in a small section today
02:36 PM roycroft: i used the same can of foam i used the other day, which was still attached to the pro gun
02:36 PM roycroft: it worked perfectly - no clogging or anything unusual
02:37 PM _unreal_: watch out for the small blocks they are the one that jam up your tetress game every time.
02:38 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> seems like every time i try to jump in the "pool", i find i can't "swim" as well as i thought i could. i also need to remember to make a branch BEFORE committing, so i don't screw up the branch flow... now my fork is 3 commits ahead from me trying to put my master back how it belongs...
02:39 PM roycroft: i also get the next osb panel half sanded during lunch
02:40 PM xxcoder: fun. I'm also working on making my living room... more living
02:40 PM roycroft: i've been experimenting with finishes resembling white wash, but i haven't found anything that i like
02:40 PM roycroft: i wanted to retain some of the osb texture in the finished walls, but i want them to be really light in color
02:41 PM xxcoder: humidity stalled out at 54%. not a surpise since outsides is still bit wet from yeseray, but still big improvement
02:41 PM roycroft: i'm pretty sure at this point that i'm just going to paint them a light grey color
02:41 PM roycroft: and forget about the osb look
02:41 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> supper at my 95 yo granny's tonight 🙂 hope she is over covid and not jumping the gun...
02:42 PM roycroft: i have eight 4' double lamp led light fixtures in the shop so far, and it's still pretty dark, especially in the corners
02:42 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> corners are always dark
02:42 PM roycroft: i don't want to add any more overhead lights except for a couple task lights, so making the walls highly reflective is the way to help brighten things up
02:43 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> so your going with flat-black wall paint? 😉
02:44 PM JT-Shop: on the rigs we mixed a bit of blue in the white paint to make the inside compartments brighter
02:45 PM xxcoder: I guess shifting white to cooler range
02:45 PM roycroft: i'm looking for a very light grey that is neutral
02:45 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yeah, i bet rigs have some DARK places
02:46 PM roycroft: a pure white can be obnoxious
02:46 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> pure white also shows dust
02:46 PM roycroft: i use 5000k lamps in my light fixtures
02:47 PM roycroft: i like having a light temperature that resembles daylight in the shop
02:48 PM roycroft: so if i got a grey with noticeable blue in it the temperature would shift closer to 6000k
02:48 PM roycroft: and if it had red/yellow in it it would shft towards 3500-4000k
02:48 PM roycroft: it's hard to find neutal grey paint though
02:50 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
02:50 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i am not that intimate with my colors i guess... to know the color temp 😉
02:50 PM xxcoder: wouldnt you able to make it by buying white and mixing regular gray in
02:51 PM xxcoder: or black
02:51 PM roycroft: most black pigments are mostly blue
02:52 PM roycroft: and when you reduce the saturation (by mixing with white) the blue really comes out
02:54 PM rdtsc: I was wondering how branches would work with git linuxcnc config Travis
02:54 PM rdtsc: gitkraken has a learning curve
02:55 PM roycroft: i use gitlab for my personal stuff
02:55 PM roycroft: it has a lot of features i don't need, but it has a nice web interface
02:55 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> fracking hell. i keep getting text messages from dumbshit Trumpass looking for money
02:56 PM roycroft: we're using codeberg for a project at the non-profit
02:56 PM roycroft: i'm really impressed with that
02:56 PM roycroft: you might look into it if you need a git repository
02:58 PM rdtsc: interesting, noted :)
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> branches work fine, but you need to maintain completely different configs as you can't work on two branches of the same Git at once, i don't think. i think you can only checkout one at a time
03:03 PM roycroft: roguish: tell the money beggars that you'll donate 0.01% of the profits tfg made at his casinos
03:03 PM roycroft: he's the greatest businessman the world has ever seen, after all, and it's impossible to not make a profit at a casino, because the house always wins
03:03 PM roycroft: so that should make for a pretty nice size donation
03:06 PM xxcoder: I rather donate in amount of 0.1% of difference of stock before and after musk ownership. after all musk is sane and are extremely rich so x is successfully rising stock right?
03:06 PM xxcoder: (for twitter)
03:11 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: i don't even look at the texts, just immediately block 'em and report them as spam
03:12 PM xxcoder: I get politic texts all time too. it sucks.
03:13 PM * roycroft gets zero political texts, as he has sms disabled by his carrier
03:13 PM roycroft: people still give me crap about not texting
03:13 PM roycroft: but i'm still totally convinced that not texting is the right thing for me
03:29 PM JT-Shop: everything on the 82 that needs to work for an inspection is working!!!
03:29 PM Tom_L: yay
03:30 PM xxcoder: and everything not inspected is ignored? ;)
03:30 PM JT-Shop: pretty much
03:30 PM xxcoder: way to go though
03:30 PM Tom_L: does your state require inspection before tagging?
03:30 PM JT-Shop: yup
03:30 PM JT-Shop: inspection and insurance before plates
03:30 PM Tom_L: they used to do that here
03:30 PM Tom_L: too many fraud cases i think so they dropped it
03:31 PM JT-Shop: all the stuff they inspect I wanted it to work before driving it
03:31 PM Tom_L: it's recomended for sure
03:31 PM JT-Shop: it was not safe to drive home but if you're careful it's ok
03:31 PM Tom_L: picked up the truck a bit ago
03:32 PM JT-Shop: prepaid service?
03:32 PM Tom_L: yes
03:32 PM JT-Shop: I have that on the Honda's
03:32 PM Tom_L: he's only got 13k miles anyway
03:33 PM Tom_L: they found what they think is a pinion seal leak on the front drive
03:33 PM JT-Shop: rut row
03:33 PM Tom_L: i haven't noticed anything at all and looked when i got back but couldn't see much of anything
03:33 PM xxcoder: cds will be back. https://www.itbrew.com/stories/2024/03/01/scientists-create-1-6-petabit-optical-storage-disc
03:34 PM JT-Shop: 11 boxes from AD will arrive tomorrow
03:34 PM Tom_L: got room now?
03:35 PM JT-Shop: pretty much cleaned up in here
03:35 PM Tom_L: is the pannel part of the delivery?
03:35 PM Tom_L: or just electronics
03:36 PM JT-Shop: no, the enclosure and ac is ltl and going to empire and I'll pick them up there
03:36 PM Tom_L: ahh
03:36 PM JT-Shop: it's 48 x 37 x 16
03:36 PM Tom_L: would be a handfull
03:37 PM JT-Shop: about 250 pounds
03:37 PM JT-Shop: empty
03:37 PM Tom_L: maybe when i was youger...
03:37 PM Tom_L: younger
03:38 PM JT-Shop: I just use mind over matter
03:38 PM Tom_L: kid and i unloaded his rollaround box off his truck, that was plenty
03:38 PM Tom_L: i showed him the easy way
03:39 PM JT-Shop: how's that?
03:39 PM Tom_L: rolled the skid up the drive on a couple pipes
03:39 PM Tom_L: his truck is higher since it's 4x4
03:40 PM Tom_L: luckily i had some loading ramps i never use and backed to the low part of the drive
03:40 PM Tom_L: they forklifted it on
03:41 PM JT-Shop: I moved all the machines in here with come-a-longs and rollers
03:41 PM Tom_L: i don't have any machine rollers
03:42 PM Tom_L: we moved my bud's bridgeport on pipes way back when
03:42 PM JT-Shop: I did finally get a set when I moved from the garage to in the machine shop
03:42 PM Tom_L: you got alot more floor space
03:43 PM Tom_L: i used to have a chain hoist but not anymore
03:44 PM Tom_L: i don't actually know what i did with it
03:45 PM Tom_L: that wouldn't have done much good there anyway
03:46 PM JT-Shop: 1,500 out back and 1,000 in the machine shop
03:48 PM JT-Shop: the garage is 750
03:52 PM Tom_L: there was like a 12 x 16 'garage' when i bought the place
03:53 PM Tom_L: i got rid of that and put up a 24x24
03:53 PM Tom_L: and later added a small 'tool' room on the back end
03:53 PM JT-Shop: I built a 30 x 26
03:53 PM JT-Shop: garage
03:53 PM Tom_L: the compressor, lathe etc are in that
03:53 PM JT-Shop: then added the machine shop onto the side
03:54 PM Tom_L: put a basement under the house and haven't moved since 79
03:54 PM JT-Shop: building a basement under an existing house is pretty cool
03:55 PM Tom_L: kinda dangerous
03:55 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> my current shop is 7.5ft X 28ft 😉
03:55 PM Tom_L: they dropped one near here several years ago
03:55 PM JT-Shop: a house?
03:55 PM Tom_L: yes
03:55 PM Tom_L: fell into the hole
03:55 PM JT-Shop: yikes
03:56 PM Tom_L: these guys were kinda rough around the edges but knew what they were doing
03:56 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/temp/house/
03:57 PM JT-Shop: the brothers that poured my basement and garage looked pretty rough but were just country boys and very nice
03:59 PM roycroft: it doesn't have to be dangerous
03:59 PM roycroft: but many folks seem to do it in a pretty scary way
04:00 PM xxcoder: honestly what I look for in workers is skills, not looks
04:00 PM xxcoder: though coming in nude may have issues
04:00 PM Tom_L: i think it somewhat goes with that industry
04:01 PM JT-Shop: should get the tags in the morning for the 82 then all hell breaks loose when fedex shows up
04:01 PM Tom_L: heh
04:02 PM Tom_L: just like old times ehh
04:03 PM JT-Shop: chili con carne tonight
04:03 PM JT-Shop: yup it will be a thrill and a challenge to get it done
04:03 PM Tom_L: i'm on a bp diet... don't wanna talk about chili...
04:04 PM JT-Shop: bridgeport?
04:04 PM Tom_L: blood pressure
04:04 PM JT-Shop: ouch
04:05 PM Tom_L: funny though, i like everything i have to eat
04:05 PM Tom_L: i just don't choose it
04:05 PM JT-Shop: what are you eating to lower bp?
04:06 PM xxcoder: that is weird. it's almost like you have selective bias towards food you like
04:06 PM Tom_L: no salt, no sugar, lots of veggies fruit etc
04:06 PM Tom_L: it's some mayo clinic bp diet
04:07 PM Tom_L: gotta move the truck... brb
04:07 PM JT-Shop: is it working?
04:07 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:07 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> no bacon and eggs???? dang!
04:13 PM Tom_L: dash diet
04:13 PM Tom_L: seems to be
04:14 PM Tom_L: only since last sat
04:17 PM Tom_L: i'd much rather do that than take a pill
04:20 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i take so many pills, i would not know the difference
04:23 PM rdtsc: holy hell... don't try to clone a private repo with free gitkraken then make it public and try again... it won't play nice until dir is deleted, gitkraken is unhooked to github, rehooked, and restarted...
04:23 PM rdtsc: see - learning curve
04:24 PM roycroft: i gave you two alternatives earlier today - if the horse is lame the horse is lame
04:24 PM roycroft: better to ride another horse
04:25 PM * roycroft knows nothing about gitkraken other than what he's heard on this channel, so cannot personally attest that it's lame
04:26 PM * rdtsc switches from a Kawasaki to an Indian... 200 hamster-power to 100 horse-power
04:27 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i prefered my goldwing i used to have...
04:27 PM rdtsc: I don't ride anymore... dangerous enough in a car
04:28 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> that's exactly why i sold my wing. still miss it though
04:29 PM roycroft: if i were to own and operate a motorcycle, i would want a vintage indian
04:30 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
04:30 PM roycroft: i think they are the best looking bikes ever made, and my understanding is that they perform really well and are extremely reliable
04:30 PM xxcoder: lol if I was riding cycles, I would have stopped that few years ago
04:30 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- thinks roycroft IS a vintage Indian 😉
04:31 PM xxcoder: vinage indian riding a vinage indian
04:34 PM JT-Shop: my Dad had an Indian after WW2
04:34 PM roycroft: perhaps i am a vintage indian, but i'm certaily not extremely reliable, and i don't perform as well as i used to
04:34 PM roycroft: a late '40s indian chief would be my deal bike, i think
04:34 PM JT-Shop: as good as you once was
04:35 PM JT-Shop: working on a 42 year old car is old enough for me
04:35 PM JT-Shop: Andy has a Near-a-car
04:36 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i have an almost-car, but it is nothing special...
04:36 PM roycroft: https://stevemckelvie.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/indian-chief.jpg
04:36 PM roycroft: somethingl ike that
04:37 PM JT-Shop: that's classic
04:38 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpHFVzwwZWs
04:38 PM JT-Shop: hah that's Andy
04:38 PM Tom_L: sure is
04:39 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> that's not what i was expecting andy to look like
04:40 PM xxcoder: from back he looks like young guy
04:40 PM xxcoder: cool bike tho
04:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yes, he does
04:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> very cool bike
06:00 PM roycroft: so i got that panel finished and intalled
06:01 PM roycroft: before i had to leave for eugene
06:01 PM roycroft: but now it's real tetris time
06:01 PM roycroft: progress will slow to a crawl for a bit
06:02 PM xxcoder: fun
06:02 PM xxcoder: I will try to go to portland by mid nov
06:05 PM _unreal_: portland what state?
06:05 PM xxcoder: all of em
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i apperciate it, but dont worry, i will have to read up on stuff
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> timers for flexi, is it possible to do timers in just python?
06:18 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i was trying to do a cycle timer in python for my axis gui, by copying [plasmac
06:18 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> but phil has his timer thing linked to the plasmac component
06:28 PM Tom_L: big_k, you use them for time studys?
06:35 PM xxcoder: 44 humidity now. so nice now
06:39 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i mean, i guess, when im playing with g64 stuff
06:39 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> or potomizing a program
06:40 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> but generally i find it handy on a dauily basis
06:53 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
07:06 PM rdtsc: Strangest bike I'd ever had was when a teenager - found a Ducati 110 slightly similar to this one out for the trash: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/b5/38/24/b5382409e0e056c1337b4f19c6e67dcc--moto-ducati-minis.jpg
07:07 PM rdtsc: pushed it home, was in bad shape... piston seized, carb completely full of scale.
07:08 PM rdtsc: very odd size piston rings, ended up breaking one getting them unstuck... had to go to the parts dealer with a caliper to find something, anything that would work
07:09 PM rdtsc: rebuilt it, was buzzing it around the neighborhood, and some neighbor several streets over stops me. Where'd you get that? Huh, well I'll be... come to find out it was stolen out of his shed. But because he knew how bad of shape it was in, he'd never expected it to run again
07:10 PM rdtsc: (promise, I didn't steal it lol)
07:10 PM rdtsc: gear shifter was on the right side, kick-start on the left... very strange bike
07:10 PM rdtsc: prolly worth a fortune today, can't even find a photo like it... oh well.
07:11 PM xxcoder: so you returned it or?
07:12 PM rdtsc: he said keep it after putting all that work into it... ended up being a nice guy
07:12 PM xxcoder: interesting
07:13 PM rdtsc: think my mom at the time reupholstered the seat... repainted the frame, polished all the aluminum covers, etc.
07:14 PM xxcoder: guy certainly had right to ask it to be back, but nice of guy to just let you have it
07:15 PM rdtsc: he had a few bikes, bigger ones... think this was an "if I ever get around to it" back-burner project for him.
07:17 PM rdtsc: come to think of it, something happened at that house, looking back... dunno if they moved or whatnot, but I'd occasionally talk to him, for a few years after that, then nothing.
07:18 PM rdtsc: I even (reluctantly) offered it back... he said no, keep it.
07:18 PM rdtsc: Probably traded it for something else... young and dumb :)
07:22 PM xxcoder: its impossible to predict what would be valuable
07:30 PM xxcoder: rain here now lol
07:43 PM rdtsc: 'tis the rainy season
07:46 PM _unreal_: 72 outside and I'm freezing
07:46 PM _unreal_: then again I'm sick so ...
07:46 PM _unreal_: first time its been below 84 in months
07:46 PM _unreal_: thanks to all the hurricains the past month :(
07:48 PM rdtsc: it rained hard here for days... got inches of rain. thankfully, it's nice but cool now
08:12 PM xxcoder: been cool here for a while now
08:36 PM _unreal_: I'm happy with my endless summer
08:36 PM _unreal_: nearly endless summer
09:14 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
