12:03 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- heads back to bed now that power has returned...
12:16 AM xxcoder: electric-powered snoozle
12:16 AM xxcoder: snooze
01:19 AM Deejay: moin
01:31 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> xxcodery I only saw the one broken tool
01:32 AM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> in your first picture, I saw what looks like part of endmill in one of smaller holes
01:33 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Reamer
01:33 AM xxcoder: not the bigger tool
01:33 AM xxcoder: unless you meant that the other one was also reamer
01:34 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Whatever faced the other side might have broken but no signs of it in the part
01:36 AM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/WZAHrYIJdFeirbKsoTGLgkca/image.png
03:14 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> https://www.youtube.com/shorts/WDqbbx17QyE
03:17 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> wow you didn't lost time
04:16 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> but it's all with stepper motors 😦
04:44 AM Tom_L: morning
05:23 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> moin

05:50 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:59 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://imgur.com/gallery/ZKrT7gR
06:00 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Also inkjet 5+ axis, LCNC works
06:00 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> meisterdippel ^^^^
06:14 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> how is the precision/repeatability
06:14 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> too bad you didn't managed to put stmbl drivers
06:15 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> i wish something cheaper would exist
06:28 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> so i have something to play with for now, the servos are still on the todo list 🙂
07:16 AM rdtsc-wk: captainhindsight_. RGV = Runny Grease Vault
07:22 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Morning, again 😉
09:03 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> nothing like a rainy day to make a fall day more dreary...
09:04 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> wood furnace is running good. All the pumps seem to be working
09:10 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> no big leaks
09:36 AM rdtsc-wk: Seen a small unit in a garage once, where when it got going, the pump could be bypassed and it would circulate itself
10:04 AM roycroft: the rainy season is here, starting tomorrow
10:04 AM * roycroft has several sheets of osb in the driveway that he's going to have to store in the shop and try to manage in the shop
10:23 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Happy Mondya
10:24 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> nothing happy about it... mother is being abusive again... 😦
10:32 AM JT-Shop: 56°F Humidity 49%
10:36 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> 58°F 92% here....
10:37 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> my rooftop weather station https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KCAWALNU149
10:40 AM roycroft: i have a "portable garage" set up in front of my shop - i've been storing things there while working on the shop
10:41 AM roycroft: i may be able to move some of that stuff to the storage unit today, and make room for the osb in there
10:41 AM roycroft: i was just out on the shop, and it would be really hard to work on the osb inside the building, especially if i'm storing the rest of it there
10:42 AM roycroft: the interior walls will be the osb, and i'm sanding it fairly smooth to take paint or whitewash - i haven't decided on the finish yet
10:42 AM roycroft: but i have to sand full sheets of the stuff, and that requires a fair amount of real estate
10:42 AM roycroft: and i'm sanding it before installing it - i don't want to sand vertically
10:42 AM roycroft: it takes close to an hour per sheet of sanding
10:42 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: your rain might make it down here, but very low chance....
10:43 AM roycroft: if it does, i can assure you that we'll retain plenty of it for ourselves
10:43 AM roycroft: we will not selflessly ship it all to you
10:44 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> but we're still going to be cool all week. more like fall weather, than like the baking heat we've been having.
10:50 AM roycroft: all these years when i lived in eugene i never drove the aufderheide highway in the fall
10:50 AM roycroft: it's a road that cuts through the cascade foothills between two of the major roads over the mountains
10:50 AM roycroft: it is mostly hardwood forest, and has spectacular fall colors
10:51 AM roycroft: the highway starts about 5 minutes west of where i live now, so perhaps i'll make the drive this weekend or later on this week
10:51 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: how's Portland? a friend of mine went to a job interview there last week
10:52 AM roycroft: how in what sense?
10:52 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I wonder if spacex is going to have to do an entry burn like falcon 9 booster does.. Elon said the engine bells on the booster warped from the heat on re-entry.
10:52 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> for a family to live. wife, 2 kids in high school.
10:52 AM roycroft: it's a medium size city with big city problems, and all the progressives who live there are hipsters
10:52 AM roycroft: it has horrible traffic
10:53 AM roycroft: portland gets a lot more snow and ice than further south, and when it gets snowy/icy there the freeways get washboard ice, sometimes lasting for days
10:53 AM roycroft: i never go there in the winter because of that
10:54 AM roycroft: but there are some nice parks there, good museums and art venues, some really good restaurants
10:54 AM roycroft: it's kind of a mixed situation, imo
10:54 AM roycroft: politically it's run by progressive democrats who are always idiots
10:55 AM roycroft: they mean well but do stupid things
10:55 AM roycroft: that's been the case for decades
10:55 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> that's whet I've seen in the media for a few years....
10:55 AM roycroft: if you are a fan of man buns you'll like portland
10:56 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> you mean dork knobs?
10:56 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> that's what I call 'em
10:56 AM * roycroft was trying to avoid pejorative terms
10:57 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> you mean real terms
10:57 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> stereotypes exit
10:57 AM roycroft: if i were to live in a bigish city in the northwet, i would choose seattle 100x over portland
11:17 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- chooses to avoid big cities if at all possible
11:19 AM roycroft: i like being near a big city, but not in one
11:19 AM roycroft: and eugene is big enough to count as far as being near a big city goes, although i'm not as near to it as i'd like
11:20 AM roycroft: i rarely go to portland, because i can find almost anything i need in eugene
11:20 AM roycroft: portland is like a once or twice a year trip for me
11:20 AM roycroft: i hope to eventually get eugene down to once/week
11:20 AM roycroft: but it's 3-4x/week these ays
11:21 AM roycroft: days
12:56 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- finds it annoying that you can buy a full set of ER20 collets (cheap crap) for cheaper than one good ER20 1/4in collet...
12:57 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> by 10 crap sets and make 1 good set.
12:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> sell the 9 crap sets.
12:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> 😉
12:59 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yeah, but at 24Krpm, i would be afraid of a really cheap collet 😉
01:10 PM mrec: over a month ago I complained about Microsoft ... now they're still trying to fix their superiour Azure database. I created 3 accounts on their side today they recommended I should create another account ...
01:11 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:33 PM rdtsc-wk: mrec, EXOR has been having Azure issues for gosh-knows-how-long... http://www.exorint.net/UniOP-Documents.html
01:37 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- thankfully has zero M$ databases 🙂
01:41 PM Tom_L: kid is excited today, they're hauling in his new workcell
01:41 PM Tom_L: 5 makino mag3 ex
01:42 PM Tom_L: and adding one to the cell he's currently running
01:42 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> das a biiig mashine 🙂
01:42 PM Tom_L: x5
01:42 PM Tom_L: probably around 35mil
01:43 PM Tom_L: i dunno how many pallets the new one has but his has 20
01:43 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i wouldn't mind even just 1mil in my bank right now 😉
01:44 PM Tom_L: he sent me some pic earlier today
01:46 PM Tom_L: 174hp spindles
01:46 PM mrec: I'm no microsoft person at all I just wrote a windows driver and customers are asking for it; i prefer the safe haven linux and macos..
01:46 PM xxcoder: only want say 100k usd or so lol
01:47 PM mrec: Microsoft should use MySQL or sqlite if they cannot handle Azure :D
01:47 PM mrec: postgresql might be too diffficult for hem
01:47 PM mrec: them*
01:47 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i think you can get a M$ MySQL driver
01:47 PM Tom_L: i use mysql or sqlite dunno which, on my cell phone
01:47 PM Tom_L: how hard could it be
01:48 PM mrec: android is using sqlite by default
01:50 PM mrec: Infineon just eol'ed the Cypress/Infineon FX2 those guys are bastards what's the solution? get a chinese pin compatible replacement, infineon is dreaming that their users will redesign their pcbs
02:01 PM rdtsc-wk: Every cheap logic analyzer out there uses the FX2
02:02 PM Tom_L: the saleae lookalikes?
02:03 PM rdtsc-wk: the cheap ones, yes... FX2 is ideal for that
02:03 PM rdtsc-wk: alot of these are FX2: https://sigrok.org/wiki/Supported_hardware#Logic_analyzers
02:56 PM mrec: now they have to switch from Infineon FX2 to a native chinese FX2
02:57 PM mrec: corebai cb9002a
02:58 PM mrec: they are pin compatible, so what Infineon is doing is nothing but idiotic, no one will re-design PCBs for their ARM USB 2.0 chips #1 they're more expensive than the competition
03:00 PM mrec: saleae is using the FX2 / FX3 for their logic analysers, many others too and they add some fpgas to optimize the throughput (just the simplest logic analyser is directly routing the pins of the FX2)
04:05 PM NetPipe: https://github.com/netpipe/imgWrite/releases macos gui for dd
04:14 PM Scopeuk: the basic salae is just an FX2 reference design
04:14 PM Scopeuk: there are some really cheap ones that target working with sigrok/pulseview that use exactly the same reference circuit
04:41 PM mrec: they will curebai cb9002a in the future and not fx2
04:41 PM mrec: corebai*
04:41 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> The FX2 has had a good run. I remember designing that in 20+ years ago when USB was actually a pain to use. My bet is the fab they are using for it is shutting down and it is not worth porting and requalifying in a new process. The test and measurement users are a rounding error on the overall volumes and not likely to be worth considering.
04:41 PM mrec: made in china 2025
04:42 PM mrec: they have multiple masks for the FX2 (I have had multiple ICs with different behaviour in the past)
04:43 PM mrec: they still keep carryin on an ARM based USB 2.0 bridge (similar to the fx3)
04:44 PM mrec: now I don't see the reason why anyone should use the Infineon USB 2.0 part since it's more expensive
04:46 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> I am sure they do have multiple fabs for it. But it would also be in a really old process that will be a pain to source. The volumes don't likely justify keeping it going.
04:47 PM mrec: I don't think so because they advertise the ARM USB 2 part that volume should even be lower (even though I'm sure that's just an FX3 part which is stripped down)
04:47 PM mrec: numerous FX2 designs are out there already it's just manufacture pcbs and place the IC that will be gone for Infineon now
04:48 PM mrec: the fx2 should compete with the ftdi usb 2.0 parts
04:48 PM mrec: and wch and corebai nowadays..
04:48 PM mrec: due to corebai the FX2 would only turn to branding advantage
04:50 PM mrec: I used that IC myself for logic analysers and other things (attached to FPGAs)
04:51 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> The other factor is the USB core or other peripheral cores might not be able to be licenced into a new process. The FX2 was always a bit of an odd duck. It was great as a prototyping tool due to the GPIF. The closest was the PSoC line with the integrated FPGA.
04:51 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, PR #134
04:52 PM JT-Woodshop: thanks
04:53 PM Tom_L: problem with it though
04:53 PM Tom_L: mdi doesn't enable now
04:54 PM Tom_L: wait..
04:56 PM Tom_L: on touch-probe3 it enables after i load a program
04:56 PM Tom_L: but is disabled after estop, power, home all
04:57 PM Tom_L: odd
04:57 PM Tom_L: seems ok on touch-probe2
04:59 PM Tom_L: wonder if hiding behind a tab has any effect on it
05:00 PM Tom_L: tp2 mdi is on the main screen, tp3 mdi is on a tab
05:00 PM Tom_L: that's the only difference i see
05:12 PM JT-Cave: I don't see a touch-probe3
05:13 PM JT-Cave: but I see what I did I "think"
05:13 PM Tom_L: i never posted it but i can if you want to try it
05:15 PM JT-Cave: actually I don't see what is wrong... xyz mdi button doesn't enable either after estop power home
05:16 PM Tom_L: ok so you don't need this yet
05:16 PM Tom_L: i'll put it on my server for now
05:17 PM Tom_L: you may not need the images folder
05:18 PM Tom_L: i think i copied the wrong one, one sec
05:20 PM JT-Cave: I figured it out, I did a bit of code rework and deleted an important line
05:20 PM Tom_L: woops
05:20 PM Tom_L: ok it's up there now if you want it but i wasn't gonna submit it to examples just yet
05:21 PM JT-Cave: ok, I'll wait
05:21 PM JT-Cave: mdi is fixed now so if you want to build again...
05:21 PM Tom_L: i'll grab and try it
05:21 PM JT-Cave: ok
05:22 PM * JT-Cave goes back to auto repair
05:23 PM Tom_L: works now
05:23 PM * JT-Shop takes 5
05:24 PM Tom_L: odd it worked on the other ju
05:24 PM Tom_L: ui
05:24 PM JT-Shop: check the object name of the line edit
05:24 PM JT-Shop: I did some changes
05:25 PM Tom_L: deb is there
05:26 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:26 PM Tom_L: did it get a new name?
05:28 PM Tom_L: le looks ok here
05:29 PM JT-Shop: I had three names for it but changed it to use just mdi_command_le
05:29 PM Tom_L: html still shows 3
05:30 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/flexgui/commit/1f5dfc435a3071b8955a2630435d2461de21b20e
05:30 PM JT-Shop: yup gotta fix that
05:31 PM Tom_L: so you set which one from the ini now
05:31 PM JT-Shop: dynamic property input
05:31 PM Tom_L: ok
05:32 PM Tom_L: cause you did have that as an ini option for a while
05:32 PM Tom_L: maybe that was just for the qss stuff
05:32 PM JT-Shop: that was just color for some buttons
05:32 PM Tom_L: ok
05:34 PM Tom_L: do you think touch-probe3 is too "busy" ?
05:34 PM JT-Shop: screen shot?
05:34 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/touch-probe3/touch-probe3.png
05:35 PM Tom_L: settings etc are on tabs
05:35 PM JT-Shop: looks ok to me
05:35 PM Tom_L: with the probe screen up is the busiest
05:36 PM JT-Shop: got the brakes done on the 82 I "think"
05:37 PM JT-Shop: and found out today that Empire kiln is down for 2 months so now I
05:37 PM JT-Shop: m in a rush to complete the control panel
05:38 PM Tom_L: i put more shots up there
05:40 PM Tom_L: did they break down or what happened?
05:40 PM JT-Shop: the lower seal failed and started melting the carts
05:41 PM JT-Shop: they expect to be back on line mid December
05:42 PM Tom_L: gonna be a slim christmas for the workers
05:42 PM JT-Shop: they may be working on the other side
05:42 PM Tom_L: oh
05:43 PM Tom_L: kid sent me a pic of a semi load of cnc. i thought it was the whole cnc but he just got here and said it's just the X axis
05:43 PM Tom_L: damn that thing must be huge
05:43 PM xxcoder: wow
05:43 PM JT-Shop: holy crap
05:43 PM xxcoder: "load 1 out of 10"
05:43 PM Tom_L: i'll post a pic once i get it off the phone
05:44 PM Tom_L: and that's the one they're adding to his cell, not the new cell
05:44 PM Tom_L: it's likely still in japan
05:46 PM JT-Shop: take a whole ship to bring it over?
05:48 PM Tom_L: i wouldn't doubt it, it's 5 cncs and a slew of pallets
05:48 PM Tom_L: last one has 20 pallets
05:48 PM Tom_L: and those are like 6 x 13'
05:50 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/makino/
06:07 PM JT-Shop: well I found the flat spot on the steering box worm shaft and the steering column is attached correctly but the tie rod ends are really wrong lol
06:07 PM JT-Shop: and I think I'm off one spline with the steering wheel
06:23 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
07:54 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
07:57 PM rdtsc: re: netpipe https://github.com/netpipe/imgWrite/releases macos gui for dd - cool. I use linux/dd at work to duplicate compact flash cards. Showed one guy how, but he can't get the hang of linux... so now everybody has me copy their CF cards - a gui might actually be helpful :)
08:27 PM roycroft: two of the people who told me this recently have master's degrees
08:28 PM roycroft: (not in engineering or the sciences, of course)
09:02 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
09:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Got my 9yo a Tetris game he had to solder together.. now he is addicted to tetris
09:03 PM xxcoder: nice lol
09:04 PM xxcoder: on tetris game, seems someone finally looped it. 255 levels. it was on rom modified to avoid crash bugs though
09:04 PM xxcoder: someone will do it with orginal evenually I guess
10:58 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:49 PM roycroft: what a fun night
11:49 PM roycroft: i am finishing my 2023 taxes, because the best time to do them is the day before they are due
11:50 PM roycroft: i got all the osb inside the portable garage, and tidied up other outside stuff, so i'm ready for the rain tomorrow
