05:12 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:26 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Morning
06:59 AM lcnc-relay: <ccatlett1984> welp, an update from my touchscreen saga...
06:59 AM lcnc-relay: building the 6.12 rpi kernel (patched with RT), has the display and touchscreen working correctly.
06:59 AM lcnc-relay: But, now wifi is broken
06:59 AM lcnc-relay: <ccatlett1984> I'm going to look through the notes and try another kernel that is a bit closer to 6.6

09:47 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I have to say - that catch of the 20 story booster was pretty darn cool
09:48 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> watching the stream and hearing - go for catch..
09:50 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, you been busy on the docs i see
10:01 AM Tom_L: PR #132
11:02 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> if you have to use bookwoom and 6.6 might aswell try the premade one
11:02 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> https://forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc/50653-comparison-between-raspian-12-bookworm-on-raspberry-pi-4-and-raspberry-pi-5?start=40#303752
11:27 AM JT-Shop: Tom_L, thanks
11:32 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/touch-probe3.png
11:32 AM Tom_L: just putzing around a bit
11:33 AM JT-Shop: nice
11:33 AM Tom_L: gonna add some dro stuff at the top maybe
11:33 AM * JT-Shop is fixing to head to River Ridge with the girls for another birthday lunch :)
11:33 AM Tom_L: have a good day
11:34 AM JT-Shop: I won't need to eat for days after today
11:34 AM JT-Shop: no border on the comboboxes?
11:35 AM Tom_L: the spindle rpm etc?
11:35 AM Tom_L: or the tool & mode?
11:40 AM Tom_L: done
11:43 AM JT-Shop: tool and mode
11:45 AM Tom_L: just fixed them and added corner rad too
11:45 AM Tom_L: refresh
11:48 AM JT-Cave: nice
11:49 AM Tom_L: can't find the spindle rpm yet
11:52 AM Tom_L: your xyz sample is missing simple.ngc
11:52 AM Tom_L: oh, that's from the ini
11:56 AM JT-Shop: ?
11:56 AM Tom_L: i opened the xyz and got a file missing error on the .ngc
11:56 AM JT-Shop: ah I was testing and forgot to change it back
11:56 AM Tom_L: :)
11:57 AM JT-Shop: testing the open file in the ini
11:57 AM Tom_L: yup
11:58 AM JT-Shop: prob had simple.ngc in the configs dir but didn't copy it to the flexgui examples when I updated the ini and ui files
11:58 AM Tom_L: is there a dtg widget?
11:58 AM Tom_L: haven't checked yet..
11:58 AM JT-Shop: in the plotter I think
11:58 AM Tom_L: yeah
12:16 PM CloudEvil: https://x.com/SpaceX/status/1845507539053826155 SpaceX slowmo of the landing. The control loops of this are _so_ well tuned. Look at the gimbaling of the engine, and how it doesn't hunt at all, and predicts the future _just_ right so it has no urgent corrections to make.
12:16 PM CloudEvil: (Or they are very small)
12:17 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
12:17 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/touch-probe3.png
12:39 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
12:39 PM Unterhausen: usps didn't feel like delivering my package so they said they couldn't do it
12:39 PM Unterhausen: now they say I have to go pick it up. I don't mind if they lie to amazon, but this is to much
01:18 PM _unreal_: So I am just in total AHHHHH right now. I started an other stone carving with the mill. and I just destoryed it because the machine did something I didnt expect because a feathre that said it was disabled was enabled but you click it when it says. "CLICK TO ENABLE KEYBOARD JOGGING" its actually enabled and if you click it it will then say "KEYBOARD JOGGING DISABBLED"
01:21 PM _unreal_: So I had paused the milling job to edit the gcode. the z lift to safe height was way too high. going to 2mm more then fine lifting to .5 mm. well when I moused over the gcode sender program (GRBL) HATE grbl. I forgot to edit one thing. so I just hit the arrow down. out of the blue the !@#$%!#$^!@#$ z moved down and because the spindle was running it plunged into the stone. melted the diamond bit and broke the stone. berfore I
01:21 PM _unreal_: could spin around and slam the estop
01:23 PM _unreal_: when I say mouse'ed over I mean I didnt click on the other program. the text editor note pad was still the active window. But it sent the command because the mouse was over the cnc control program.
01:24 PM jpa-: next you can do the same in linuxcnc and rant about it in #grbl ;)
01:24 PM _unreal_: I thought I had disabled that !@#$%@#%$^@!#%$ feature like 3 weeks ago. problem is you never need to touch the arrow keys in that program. and if you do hit the arrow keys its always on something where your entering numbers so no keyboard arrow key movements are sent to the machine
01:25 PM _unreal_: jpa-, I'm only using a temp grbl controller. the original was DOA but I had ordered it a few years ago. dad + cancer really screwed me up for the past few years. just getting back to being free of baby sitting him.
01:26 PM _unreal_: I cant believe that bit is toast
01:26 PM _unreal_: its melted
01:27 PM _unreal_: the 1.5kw spindle almost stalled too. I cant believe how fast that thing drove down and split the 3/4" thick stone
01:28 PM _unreal_: I wish I knew if my spindle can use breaking resistors
01:28 PM _unreal_: err the VFD
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: <willbertvaleroyant> Hi all.
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: newbie question here:
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: running a mesa 7i96 card an I am trying to activate a output port on my card.
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: Is this the correct way?
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: hal:
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: net spindle-release <= motion.digital-out-00
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: net spindle-release => [HMOT](CARD0).gpio.000.out
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: ini:
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: [HMOT]
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: # **This is for info only**
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: CARD0=hm2_7i96.0
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: ngc:
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: M64 P02 (ON)
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: G4 P2 (Delay 2s)
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: M65 P02 (off)
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: I cannot see the light on the board light up.
01:50 PM lcnc-relay: I have no cable connected yet. Just wanted to see it work first
01:53 PM lcnc-relay: <willbertvaleroyant> Hi all.

01:53 PM lcnc-relay: <willbertvaleroyant> * **** This is for info only ****
01:53 PM xxcoder: I suggest use text paste sites, and not to edit large text as it would appear all over again on irc
01:58 PM lcnc-relay: <ccatlett1984> 6.6, does not work with my display. However the wireless does work. 6.10 should be done compiling shortly, and I will see if both are functioning under it. 6.12, the display works perfectly, but the wireless does not.
02:52 PM xxcoder: really fun wesley today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIGBacbkp64
02:55 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> hopefully some will know and answer eventually, though may be a bit of time since its sunday.
03:15 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> willbertvaleroyant in the HAL file, i think you need to take out the parentheses around the CARD0 so it reads "[HMOT]CARD0"
03:16 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/config/ini-config.html#sub:ini:variables
03:16 PM lcnc-relay: section 1.4.
03:16 PM lcnc-relay: Hal Example
03:32 PM Unterhausen: I just wanted to watch the spacex landing, but all the videos advertising that start at the launch
03:32 PM Unterhausen: been downvoting a lot of videos
03:38 PM roycroft: i want to watch it, because i think it would be fascinating and evidence of a great technological achievement
03:38 PM roycroft: but it's an elon musk thing
03:38 PM * roycroft goes back to sanding osb instead
03:45 PM Unterhausen: I like to watch Scott Manley videos, but he talks too much and I just wanted to watch the catch. Probably watch his video lately. My understanding is they have experts at spacex to keep leon away from things like this
03:47 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> JT, any way to get a second option for the spindle_speed_0_lcd (or a second lcd) to connect to a HAL pin, so i can display the actual spindle speed from my VFD?
04:02 PM Tom_L: spindle_speed_n_lb spindle_actual_speed_lb
04:03 PM Tom_L: i don't think there is one that shows a feedback speed
04:03 PM Tom_L: iirc those are commanded
04:04 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i think so, i had hoped for feedback speed... maybe a I/O status label would work for now...
04:11 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/VzlELAyvTXIUlpIPIlLIFiNW/RPReplay_Final1728828367.qt
04:11 PM xxcoder: Unterhaus_:
04:11 PM xxcoder: the landing
04:16 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> thanks, it didn't work for me but then I noticed the twitter link above
04:16 PM xxcoder: lol ok :)
04:17 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> .qt is that QuickTime? does anybody even use that anymore? 😉
04:17 PM lcnc-relay: <willbertvaleroyant> no sorry then it say CARD0 and not the value
04:17 PM xxcoder: evidently yes
04:18 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- wonders why his HAL file even works then...
04:26 PM lcnc-relay: <willbertvaleroyant> If i removed them I could not even start linuxcnc due to that Card0. does not exist. so it did not replace
04:32 PM Tom_L: it depends how you have your config set up. mine are: hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.xxx
04:32 PM Tom_L: [] is the ini section
04:33 PM Tom_L: (BOARD) is the card description within that section
04:33 PM Tom_L: BOARD=7i90
04:34 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> does [SECTION]KEY work too? that is how mine is setup
04:34 PM Tom_L: you could have (oompaloompa) where oompaloompa = 7i96 and it would work
04:36 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> but is [SECTION]KEY correct too, or only [SECTION](KEY) ?
04:36 PM Tom_L: is it working?
04:37 PM Tom_L: don't question it...
04:37 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i don't know, maybe not. it sets my servo period, but i get realtime errors now and then
04:37 PM Tom_L: maybe a latency issue
04:38 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> my servo period is 1000000
04:41 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> maybe that is why i could set the servo period to anything without much change, is all i am saying
04:42 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> just wondering if the docs are wrong again
04:43 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i set it to all [SECTION](KEY) format, so i will test and see, tomorrow
05:01 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> I'm sure that it's the docs that are wrong
05:01 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> Sorry, I'll go like one of your videos on youtube
05:05 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> Travis, do you have to move that probe toolholder into place by hand?

10:04 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> just lost power and it woke me up.... so i guess it is morning to me...
11:01 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> and it's back...
11:02 PM xxcoder: man power loss really sucks for me if I was asleep. cpap turns off and it feels like air being sucked out of me
11:02 PM xxcoder: hell of a wakeup
11:06 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yeah, my dad woke up and came down for the exact same reason
11:11 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/szfEIxTdUXxaSiZiEhpRiNtv/IMG_20241013_230338.jpg
11:11 PM xxcoder: ouch. looks recoverable but not fun
11:11 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> broken end-mill?
11:11 PM xxcoder: looks like drill or reamer
11:12 PM xxcoder: its though-coolant too. expensive
11:12 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Reamer with note, "part moved"
11:12 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> In fixture
11:13 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> ouch
11:13 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Heh
11:13 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Probably bottomed it out
11:13 PM xxcoder: probably, or 4th axis rotated while reaming?
11:14 PM xxcoder: uhh
11:14 PM xxcoder: I see another ponental problem
11:14 PM xxcoder: another hole has something in it? rohght side, smaller hole
11:15 PM xxcoder: hell of a chatter on chamfering too. wonder if it was loose on fixture
11:15 PM xxcoder: looks uneven too
11:16 PM xxcoder: hard to tell because photo its angled

11:25 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Part got loose in the fixture while facing this side
11:26 PM xxcoder: seems they didnt find out till anpther 2 tools was broken?
11:49 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Dunno, just came across it next to the RGV's I'm working on
