12:38 AM xxcoder: project millenium mill had someone reveal that they use all alum gpu jacks as machinist jacks. opnly 2 bucks or so and seems to work
09:13 AM JT-Shop: damn paypal and their freeking security checks is driving me nuts
09:13 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yeah, Paypal has a hold on one of my sales...
09:23 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> mine?
09:26 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yeah, says it won't be released until 22 days due to a "high risk transaction". probably because it is one of my first sales...
09:28 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> shoot - sorry
09:29 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> not your fault
09:32 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> maybe should have vimo'ed or something
09:32 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> vimo? lol
09:33 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i am fairly sure it will release, eventually. good thing i had just enough for shipping. not sure i am setup for vimo
09:34 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> although - the more you use hopefully the better it will get.
09:35 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I haven't sold stuff using paypal for a very long time and that was usually ebay.
09:37 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i checked my paypal account, it was still in sandbox mode π€£ so i bet thats why
09:38 AM * Tom_L smiles cause he broke something today :)
09:39 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> lol, Tom_L
09:52 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/PWRYeSIdvlKkIxhYSyZdGDUC/IMG_20241010_164241.jpg
09:52 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> I know I'm not quite normal π€
10:14 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
10:15 AM roycroft: so i left my computer glasses at the restaurant last night - they have them and are holding them for me, so they're not lost
10:15 AM rdtsc-wk: well that's kind of them
10:15 AM roycroft: i wasn't worred about it, because i have a half dozen readers that i can wear over my regular glasses for a couple days until i can pick them up
10:16 AM roycroft: of course, i cannot locate nay of the readers today
10:16 AM roycroft: they are probably all packed up in boxes still from my move
10:16 AM rdtsc-wk: Murphy's law strikes again
10:16 AM * roycroft is struggling to read the screen
10:16 AM roycroft: getting old sucks :)
10:16 AM rdtsc-wk: indeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
10:16 AM Tom_L: they should warn us
10:17 AM rdtsc-wk: with age comes wisdom (and poor eyesight)
10:17 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> they warned us, but when you're young you don't want to believe it
10:19 AM rdtsc-wk: Tom, you need a bot that will speak to us when we lose our glasses :)
10:20 AM rdtsc-wk: can call it !talkie
10:21 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> my store is offline, due to a connection error with Paypal, that i can't yet fix
10:23 AM roycroft: the correct fix is to dump paypal and use square space or something similar :)
10:31 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> fixed it... square space is not integrated with my store software
10:31 AM roycroft: bummer
10:32 AM * roycroft is moving away from paypal himself, and happily doing so
10:33 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i like paypal, it is secure
10:34 AM roycroft: while i've had few real problems with them, they have been a nightmare for many folks
10:34 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> now that that is fixed... lunch time
10:35 AM roycroft: i have had problems with their freezing my account for no particular reason, not allowing me to access my monies that they are holding for extended periods of time
10:36 AM roycroft: and i have always had to keep a separate bank account just for paypal, as their tos essentially state that they can extract money from my bank account at any time for any reason without my explicit consent
10:36 AM roycroft: the solution to that is to keep $3 in my paypal bank account
10:36 AM roycroft: but that means i have to transfer money into the account any time i want to pay for something with paypal, and transfer money out the instant it arrives
10:49 AM roycroft: i found some readers! life is suddenly a lot clearer
11:02 AM * rdtsc-wk thinks Roycroft finally sees the light :)
11:04 AM rdtsc-wk: I need new glasses, but the office I want to use keeps weird hours, like closes at 1pm on Fridays
11:08 AM lcnc-relay: <onceloved.cn> ε―δΈηΌΊηΉε°±ζ―ε€ͺιΏδΊπ€£
11:08 AM roycroft: i need a new rx as well
11:08 AM roycroft: my insurance covers optical exams and lenses, but there are no in-network providers in the western united states for either
11:09 AM lcnc-relay: <onceloved.cn> The only downside is that it's too long
11:09 AM roycroft: i am looking into changing insurance next month, so maybe i'll find something with real optical coverage
11:20 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> why too long ? do you mean the distance between the connectors ? that are module-slots and they need space between
11:22 AM lcnc-relay: <onceloved.cn> I see
11:23 AM lcnc-relay: <festlv> Glad you received it in one piece π Please don't hesitate to report any issues, or areas for improvement!
11:23 AM lcnc-relay: I don't really have plans on developing it further at the moment, but at least documenting the known issues would be good π
11:25 AM lcnc-relay: <festlv> My initial reaction when I saw it fully assembled was: man, it's.. volumetrically quite large
11:27 AM lcnc-relay: <festlv> But then again- the current design is the result of compromises- number of slots, single-sided components (well, almost, I really didn't want the decoupling caps for ecp5 on top layer), relatively cheap-ish interconnect
11:27 AM lcnc-relay: <festlv> The large 4 layer board is quite expensive in small quantities (due to size and 0.2mm vias that I needed to fanout the signals from BGA)
11:28 AM lcnc-relay: <festlv> Oh, and slot width itself
11:28 AM rdtsc-wk: That's a good thing when put inside an enclosure and cabinet... some of the biggest name-brand vendors produce gear that operates on the thermal edge under nominal conditions (due to size reduction)
11:42 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> The size is perfect, the modules could be a little shorter, but then everyone can decide for themselves.
11:42 AM lcnc-relay: Once again, many many many many many thanks, very cool!
11:43 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> the whole board is perfect π
11:44 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> i wish i could do something like that, you can see that you know what you're doing
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/HOwQKqyWGHHGuNKhQgKYSYRV/20221123_143814.jpg
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> and then there are the boards i make... π€£ (an old Arduino DCC train controller)
11:53 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> if you look closely you can recognise slight differences π
11:53 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> the main thing is that it works π
12:04 PM * roycroft has two fittings to install inside the shop, then the air compressor will be attached to an air hose reel in the shop
12:05 PM roycroft: it's still at 120ps this morning, btw, and i have the power turned off to it, so it's doing really well at holding that pressure
12:06 PM rdtsc-wk: It might just clog itself
12:08 PM roycroft: it might, and that's why i considered opening the drain hole from 1/4" to 1/2"
12:08 PM roycroft: i may still end up doing that eventually, but for now it's working olk
12:08 PM roycroft: ok
12:11 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> put in a 2in drain valve... that will drain the water off quick... π
12:12 PM roycroft: i may consider an auto-drain eventually, but frankly, a manual drain that is trivial to use is more reliable and robust, which counts for a lot
12:12 PM roycroft: i also have to bolt the compressor base down to the floor of the shed
12:13 PM roycroft: i almost forgot that - i was waiting until it was fully-installed and functional before committing to bolting it down, in case i had to move it a wee bit
12:13 PM roycroft: that's a 15 minute job though
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i have a few of these i could put on my store: https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/cnc-parts/inductive-proximity-switch
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: don't remember how many i have, but i switched to the bolt style on my machine... i will have to think if i can sell them for enough to cover shipping... or if i will ever use them for something else... my machine reads PNP now, not NPN, so it is just a matter of if i can make money with them or not? only $6.95 each my cost, but then shipping gets added. not sure if it is worth it...
12:28 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, still doesn't find my rcc 6
12:28 PM JT-Cave: and it won't due to a bug in qt
12:28 PM Tom_L: what lib has 5?
12:28 PM Tom_L: i'll try but i had trouble finding that as well
12:29 PM JT-Cave: qt dropped qtchooser in qt6 but if qt5 is installed then it uses the chooser which points to the wrong place
12:29 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:29 PM JT-Cave: did you read the message printed in the list widget?
12:29 PM Tom_L: no i just got back
12:29 PM Tom_L: you mean the not found message?
12:30 PM Tom_L: saw that one
12:30 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: hey, you just pushed something about not finding rcc with qt6.. what's that about ?
12:30 PM JT-Cave: no the long winded one below
12:30 PM JT-Cave: a bug in qt6
12:31 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> will that help the button images problems?
12:31 PM Tom_L: roguish did you build your resources.qrc with jt's tool?
12:32 PM JT-Cave: https://github.com/jethornton/flexgui/blob/master/flexgui/src/flexqrc#L47
12:32 PM JT-Cave: roguish did you watch the video?
12:33 PM Tom_dev: JT-Cave, i don't need qt6-base-dev-tools installed then?
12:33 PM JT-Cave: no
12:34 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Cave: what vid ?
12:34 PM Tom_dev: i have 6 installed but not 5 :)
12:34 PM Tom_dev: go figure
12:34 PM JT-Cave: <JT-Cave> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9L2tDzXWHwc
12:34 PM Tom_dev: i'll reverse that
12:35 PM JT-Cave: I wonder if rcc is found if only qt6 is installed on a pc
12:35 PM Tom_dev: it wouldn't find my version 5
12:36 PM Tom_dev: but i could navigate to it and see it installed
12:36 PM Tom_dev: i forget where now
12:36 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Cave: watching now
12:37 PM Tom_dev: ok 5 works now
12:37 PM JT-Cave: ok time for a nap then
12:37 PM Tom_dev: i likely won't be around much tomorrow
12:38 PM Tom_dev: everybody celebrate!!
12:38 PM Tom_dev: roguish i think your issue may be a naming problem
12:40 PM Tom_dev: <Tom_dev> i wonder if roguish used your builder. that might explain why the images don't show up. i told him to preface the images like this: url(":images/inX+Y+.png") instead of this url(":inX+Y+.png")
12:41 PM Tom_dev: using his builder, he builds from the image folder which won't add 'images' to the path in the qrc file
12:41 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> gotta run out for my $8000 asthma monthly shot. back in a while
12:41 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> thank you medicare
12:42 PM Tom_dev: :)
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> roguish: what hurts more, the shot, or the bill for the shot? π (i suspect i already know the answer)
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> wait... roguish is on medicare??? i seriously thought you were in your 30's or 40's
01:20 PM rdtsc-wk: gather enough heavy water, and it could go critical...
01:39 PM xxcoder: not really
01:39 PM * Tom_L checks back after a nap
01:39 PM xxcoder: hey napster
01:40 PM DmanT: hello
01:41 PM DmanT: only support for "linuxCNC"?
01:42 PM xxcoder: hey, honestly most times any topic is fine as long as you dont interrupt actual on-topic, thoufgh id avoid politics and religion
01:53 PM roycroft: xxcoder: any idea when you might come down to pdx?
01:54 PM xxcoder: not too sure yet
01:54 PM roycroft: let me know as you formulate your plans, so i have time to formulate mine
01:55 PM xxcoder: yeah ill give you like 2 weeks or so
03:05 PM Tom_L: ty JT-Cave... PR #126
03:07 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, you might note to remove that ver6 lib on the resources page if it's installed
03:07 PM Tom_L: if that makes a difference
03:08 PM Tom_L: qtbase6-dev-tools?
03:09 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: hey, have you worked over any of your examples yet ???
03:09 PM Tom_L: the touch-probe2 should be up to date
03:09 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> just installed JT's latest deb from today
03:10 PM Tom_L: the others work afik
03:10 PM Tom_L: there's a newer one
03:10 PM Tom_L: just now
03:10 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> you have a new deb also
03:10 PM Tom_L: the one you installed may be broke
03:10 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/
03:10 PM Tom_L: i just now built those
03:11 PM Tom_L: he probably updated his amd64 one but it was within the last hour
03:11 PM Tom_L: and i just pushed the rpi one to him
03:12 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> how is his broken ?
03:12 PM Tom_L: couldn't find the resources.py file
03:12 PM Tom_L: after fixing his resource builder
03:12 PM Tom_L: but it's working now
03:14 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> so, is your new one ok? shows the build time 14:55 /??
03:14 PM Tom_L: yup
03:14 PM Tom_L: i just ran it
03:14 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok, i'll install it now.
03:14 PM Tom_L: my server date may be off
03:14 PM Tom_L: i never look at it :)
03:15 PM Tom_L: err time
03:15 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:15 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> both you guys keep posting version 1.0.0 over and over
03:16 PM Tom_dev: yeah yeah
03:16 PM Tom_dev: i'm not in charge of that
03:16 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> after I download a deb, i add the date, like -10-10 to the file name end
03:17 PM Tom_dev: so, once you get there, paste a line from the resources.qrc file and one from the qss file that has the graphics line
03:18 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_dev: what's the difference with the dark-blue.qss and the regular .qss ??
03:18 PM Tom_dev: regular is probably white
03:18 PM Tom_dev: i never open it much anymore
03:19 PM Tom_dev: it's possibly out of date
03:19 PM * Tom_dev opens the touch-probe2 folder instead of touch-probe3
03:21 PM Tom_dev: both of those have the images in them
03:22 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I don't see a touch-probe3 example
03:22 PM Tom_dev: i need to add png for the angle buttons in the light one
03:22 PM Tom_dev: you won't
03:22 PM Tom_dev: it's experimental atm
03:23 PM Tom_dev: which qss file are you using?
03:29 PM Tom_dev: roguish, grab this touch-probe2.qss file http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/
03:29 PM Tom_dev: i just updated it
03:29 PM JT-Shop: Tom_dev, a resources.py file was in the libflex dir for testing and I forgot to del it and the import
03:29 PM Tom_dev: that's the light theme
03:29 PM Tom_dev: woops
03:30 PM Tom_dev: jt, i'm gonna push that qss file too, it's a light theme
03:30 PM Tom_dev: forget to update them sometims
03:32 PM Tom_dev: ok it's there
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> do you guys ever use the stylesheet input line in the Property Editor, Qwidget line???
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/kCHxNQaGYhVESXDpnGIMcsRo/image.png
03:32 PM Tom_dev: nope
03:32 PM Tom_dev: not found...
03:33 PM Tom_dev: jt switches style sheets in the ini
03:33 PM Tom_dev: QSS =
03:34 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> https://pasteboard.co/Rm4NwhecSSao.png
03:35 PM Tom_dev: nope
03:36 PM Tom_dev: you could i suppose
03:36 PM Tom_dev: roguish, did you use jt's resource builder to make your resourcd.py file?
03:38 PM JT-Shop: roguish you can use the stylesheet in designer but it might be over written by the qss file because it's loaded after the ui file
03:38 PM JT-Shop: also it's easy to forget you have a style set in designer and can't figure out why something is wonky
03:39 PM Tom_dev: i tried adding tooltips in the qss but so far they didn't stick
03:39 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_dev: do you have a qss file that properly refers to the probe buttons names and images ?
03:39 PM Tom_dev: so i put those in the ui for now
03:39 PM JT-Shop: tooltips need to be added in the designer or in python
03:40 PM Tom_dev: roguish, i need to know how you got your resources.py file before i can answer that
03:40 PM Tom_dev: it will either have the images in the path or not
03:40 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: that's probably part of my problem. i've been mixing and matching..
03:40 PM Tom_dev: i'd stick to the qss file
03:41 PM JT-Shop: yup stick with the qss file and organize by widget type
03:41 PM Tom_dev: roguish, paste a <file> </file> line from your resources.qrc file
03:41 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_dev: i've used JT's program
03:42 PM JT-Shop: roguish did you catch the trick on the video about widgets that all start with the same prefix
03:42 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> in his doc, he gives a line command method too
03:42 PM Tom_dev: then when you access the file in the qss file, don't use 'images' as part of the path
03:42 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roguish: gotta re-watch it
03:42 PM rdtsc-wk: more than one way to Flex a cat
03:42 PM JT-Shop: it's step by step
03:42 PM JT-Shop: LOL
03:43 PM Tom_dev: roguish your qss for the buttons should look like this: background-image: url(":inX-Y+.png");
03:43 PM Tom_dev: etc
03:43 PM Tom_dev: QPushButton#probe_inYplus {
03:43 PM Tom_dev: background-image: url(":inY+.png");
03:43 PM Tom_dev: }
03:44 PM Tom_dev: to be more precise
03:44 PM Tom_dev: i built my own and that's why it has the images as part of the path
03:45 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok, just used the Flex Resource builder. now, where the heck do the .py and .qrc files go ?
03:46 PM Tom_dev: jt's gone to alot of trouble making yt.. someone should watch them :)
03:46 PM Tom_dev: put them both in the config folder
03:53 PM JT-Cave: roguish the images sim is now in the features sub dir of flex examples
03:55 PM * JT-Cave gets some rat traps for the wood shed
03:55 PM Tom_dev: make sure to edit the resources.py file too changing the from line to: rom PyQt6 import QtCore
03:55 PM roycroft: you mean kittens, jt-cave? :)
03:55 PM Tom_dev: make sure to edit the resources.py file too changing the from line to: from PyQt6 import QtCore
03:56 PM * roycroft suspects his kittens would freak out of they encountered a rat
03:57 PM Tom_dev: start them out on mice
04:03 PM roycroft: yeah
04:03 PM roycroft: they can work their way up to rats
04:04 PM roycroft: and when they're feeling really secure, they can move on to new york city rats
04:08 PM JT-Shop: Tom_dev, you don't have to edit the resources.py file if you use the tool
04:13 PM Tom_dev: ok, i figured you took care of that but it came to mind
04:22 PM Tom_dev: #127
04:29 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> just drew up a new rendition of a tool rack in CAD... will have to test it out on material and see what i screwed up. i think it looked right in SIM on Fusion360, says it will cut it in about 18 minutes... will look for a scrap of plywood tomorrow.
04:38 PM JT-Shop: just ordered some paint for the horn button and a few other items on the steering wheel...
04:39 PM Tom_L: how's the interior on that?
04:39 PM JT-Shop: seats are good carpet is not
04:39 PM Tom_L: foot wear
04:39 PM JT-Shop: carpet kit will take care of that
04:40 PM JT-Shop: but that's way down on the list lol
04:40 PM Tom_L: yup
04:40 PM JT-Shop: I may get a burst of energy and check the TIR on the LR rotor and if ok put the caliper back on
04:47 PM JT-Shop: but first there's a new Simon, a bloke in the woods video
04:47 PM Tom_L: :)
04:50 PM Tom_L: i forgot to look at the Help > about
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: Tom_L ok, making progress https://pasteboard.co/0aRlgaTcDKXe.png
05:35 PM Tom_L: roguish, there is a way to not repeat the image if it's too small...
05:35 PM Tom_L: ask JT i forget
05:35 PM Tom_L: on the tool probe one
05:35 PM JT-Shop: watch the video...
05:36 PM Tom_L: btw, the tool probe code isn't quite done
05:36 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> https://pasteboard.co/1pfwyewcfbVw.png
05:37 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: i've watched several times
05:37 PM JT-Shop: did you catch the part about no-repeat
05:37 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> probably set the image size
05:37 PM Tom_L: you need the distance icons connected :)
05:37 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> no
05:37 PM Tom_L: that's what the tool icon needs... no-repeat
05:38 PM JT-Shop: look at the qss in the images example
05:39 PM Tom_L: also, i haven't done the corner probe routines
05:41 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, what was the line to even out the toolbar buttons?
05:41 PM Tom_L: i forget that too
05:41 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: got it
05:41 PM JT-Shop: even out?
05:41 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> copy paste 4 lines. yes
05:42 PM Tom_L: so estop and power aren't bigger but they're all the same size
05:42 PM JT-Shop: ah ok for the qss, I'd have to look
05:42 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:42 PM JT-Shop: toolbar toolbuttons maybe
05:43 PM Tom_L: min pixels like 40px or something?
05:43 PM Tom_L: i don't remember the syntax
05:43 PM JT-Shop: min-height
05:43 PM Tom_L: roguish, under toolbar buttons
05:43 PM Tom_L: in the qss file
05:44 PM Tom_L: making progress for sure
05:44 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok, thanks for the help today. beer thirty here....
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> see y'all tomorrow.
05:45 PM Tom_L: maybe
05:45 PM Tom_L: i get to see the dentist..
05:45 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:45 PM Tom_L: :/
05:45 PM Tom_L: it ain't gonna be pretty
05:45 PM JT-Shop: what fun
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> grin and bear it
05:45 PM JT-Shop: my dentist is a friend
05:46 PM Tom_L: it's been an issue since childhood
05:46 PM Tom_L: incidentally i don't like em
05:47 PM JT-Shop: I'd much rather visit my friend at his family farm than at work
05:47 PM Tom_L: last time i went to one he pulled half of one and left the other half for me to finish at home
05:49 PM Tom_L: anyway R&R time
05:49 PM * JT-Shop goes inside to marinade the wings for tomorrow
05:49 PM JT-Shop: got daughters, dogs and SO coming tomorrow afternoon
06:43 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> can users delete threads on the foruM
06:43 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> ?
06:44 PM Tom_L: maybe if it's yours
06:44 PM Tom_L: i dunno
06:55 PM _unreal_: 3d printing a mount right now
06:56 PM _unreal_: I got these micro fish tank valves
06:56 PM _unreal_: Hoping they work ok for vacuum?
06:56 PM _unreal_: they are for air regardless
06:57 PM _unreal_: My goal is to use them for tieing the 3 micro pumps I have together or breaking them apart so one can be used as a vac and the other 2 can be + air.
06:57 PM _unreal_: or all can be used for vac or air
06:57 PM _unreal_: should be enough for my desires i'm hoping
06:58 PM _unreal_: big kev which forum? lcnc or cnczone
07:06 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
07:09 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> lcnc
07:09 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> thought a thread vanishwed but i found it]
07:11 PM _unreal_: poof
07:11 PM _unreal_: cant wait for this 3d print to be done
07:11 PM _unreal_: provided it fits
07:11 PM _unreal_: I'll have a nice drop in mount for the 2 tripple valves I purchased
07:12 PM _unreal_: then I can really start finishing the pump box
07:21 PM _unreal_: flawless fit
07:49 PM roycroft: i got a pro model spray foam gun today
07:49 PM roycroft: i'll be doing lots of foam sealing in my shop and my house, and i'm tired of buying those one-time use cans of foam that clog up if you don't spray them fast enough
07:50 PM _unreal_: pro gun?
07:51 PM _unreal_: as in 2 propaine like tanks? attached to a gun with replaceable plastic tips?
07:51 PM roycroft: yeah, the kind with the replaceable canisters
07:51 PM roycroft: right
07:51 PM roycroft: the foam is a lot cheaper for them than the single-use cans
07:51 PM xxcoder: was thinking pro as in professional lol
07:51 PM roycroft: and as long as you clean the tip of the gun with acetone every time you use it, the cannister will store for a month after it's been opened
07:52 PM roycroft: the one i got is professional grade
07:52 PM _unreal_: I use them all the time and IMO they suck. just remember, you have 3 seconds if you stop spraying. 10 seconds longer and the tip is F'ed
07:52 PM _unreal_: roycroft, You can not clean the tips. the tips them self have a mixing spiral inside the disposible tip. when it cures the tip is F'ed
07:53 PM _unreal_: I would also suggest protecting the gun with plastic tubing if you have it
07:54 PM _unreal_: plastic tubing meaning like clear 1.5mill plastic only in a tube or sleeve if you will
07:54 PM roycroft: the instructions for the gun say to clean the tip with acetone
07:55 PM roycroft: all the videos i've watched say that too and demonstrate that
07:55 PM _unreal_: the company I work for they just finished rebuilding the hull. of a boston whaler. the outside hull had delamiated from the inside and it was bonded with 2 part foam only from factory
07:55 PM _unreal_: big 40' boat too
07:55 PM roycroft: and i got a can of cleaner as well
07:56 PM roycroft: if i remove a can of foam i can replace it with another within 60 seconds, or attach the cleaner can to the gun and flush it out
07:56 PM _unreal_: expanding foam is eurothane, YES you can clean it but not when its curing.
07:56 PM roycroft: right
07:56 PM roycroft: that's why the tip needs to be cleaned immediately after use
07:56 PM roycroft: and when the tip is closed the foam inside the gun will not cure
07:57 PM _unreal_: ya.... :S not always the case just have some 1" brushes handy and I would likely give them a slight hair cut so you can use them to probe into the sprayer with out the disposible tip on
07:58 PM roycroft: i doubt i'll ever use the disposable tips
07:58 PM _unreal_: the real danger is changing tanks. You have to purge the lines
07:58 PM roycroft: the standard tip is narrow enough
07:58 PM roycroft: i think we're talking about two different types here
07:58 PM _unreal_: could be
07:59 PM roycroft: i believe you're talking about the two part systems that are used to insulate walls and the like
07:59 PM _unreal_: are you talking 2 part or single part I.E. greatstuff foam
07:59 PM roycroft: i'm talking about the single part system that's used for sealing cracks around doors and windows and the like
07:59 PM roycroft: yeah, i have the greatstuff pro serius
07:59 PM roycroft: series
08:00 PM roycroft: regarding the 2 part systems, i agree that you have to flush the lines immediately, and that cleanup is critical
08:00 PM _unreal_: its the same stuff more or less just one is open cell gas expanding, the other is closed cell chemical based active gas release and chemical cure.
08:00 PM roycroft: in the past i've always used the disposable one-use cans with the plastic tubing applicator
08:00 PM _unreal_: the lines have to be purchased if changing the tanks.
08:00 PM _unreal_: the tip is the danger
08:00 PM roycroft: those are expensive for the small amount of foam they contain
08:00 PM _unreal_: very true
08:01 PM roycroft: and rarely was i able to empty an entire can before the applicator tube clogged
08:01 PM _unreal_: been there done that
08:01 PM roycroft: i was going to buy a bunch of cans of those today, but decided it was time to step up to the pro series
08:01 PM roycroft: i'll know soon if it was a wise decsion or not, but i think it was
08:01 PM roycroft: and i did do a bunch of research earlier
08:02 PM roycroft: so it wasn't a totally spontaneous nor uninformed decision
08:03 PM roycroft: for the shop wall cavities i'll probably use some nice, itchy fiberglass batt insulatin
08:03 PM roycroft: expanding foam, while generally better, is way more expensive
08:04 PM roycroft: and since i'm going to be putting an addition on the shop (maybe two or three, over time), the fiberglass batt is a lot better because it can be removed cleanly and reused
08:04 PM _unreal_: I'm waiting on a set of bearings I ordered from amazon. when those bastards get here I can finally fix the last major "issue" on the new cnc machine
08:04 PM roycroft: i should expect that most logistics in florida are pretty messed up right now due to the weather
08:05 PM _unreal_: logistics?
08:05 PM roycroft: transport/delivery systems
08:05 PM _unreal_: thankfully I was way south of that one
08:09 PM roycroft: i was about to finish up the air plumbing in my shop, but then thought perhaps i should actually start insulating and putting up the interior sheeting material first, because it's both more difficult to install the plumbing on bare stud walls and i'd have to remove it and do it all over when i do finish the walls
08:09 PM roycroft: plus, my shop heating bill will be lower as soon as i get it insulated
08:10 PM roycroft: so i got sidetracked, and am going to finish the one wall where the plumbing will go (and where the dust collector ducting will go) now, then finish the compressor and duct collector installation
08:10 PM roycroft: it should not take too long to do that wall
