01:46 AM Deejay: moin
02:52 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> hello
04:42 AM Tom_L: morning
05:00 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:03 AM JT-Mobile: morning
06:14 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Almost good night time
06:43 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:51 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> lunchtime
06:51 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> how can it be, every child knows that the earth is flat
07:46 AM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, it occurred to me last night when i was testing
07:47 AM Tom_L: G10 L2 P0 R0
07:47 AM Tom_L: puts things back to normal
07:47 AM Tom_L: i didn't know that about axis because i've never shifted it
07:47 AM JT-Mobile: I should add those as menu and push buttons
07:47 AM Tom_L: yeah menu for sure
07:48 AM Tom_L: i can add a mdi one
07:48 AM JT-Mobile: anything in the menu can be a button too
07:48 AM Tom_L: i know, i've been running the test program from the menu
07:48 AM Tom_L: with no buttons
07:48 AM Tom_L: :)
07:49 AM JT-Mobile: we have every menu item except zero coordinate systems
07:49 AM Tom_L: well now you got something to do aside from your day job :)
07:49 AM JT-Mobile: we'll be gone most of the day today... breakfast with friends then a 90 mile fuel efficiency run
07:50 AM Tom_L: i won't be back til later either
07:50 AM JT-Mobile: I'll add the coordinate system resets
07:51 AM JT-Mobile: I don't have home and unhome menu items either
07:52 AM Tom_L: i don't know if axis does that or not
07:53 AM Tom_L: https://x.com/daviderady/status/1841926819060019667
07:53 AM Tom_L: linear actuator?
07:59 AM Tom_L: i was looking for the black text in the qss file too and having trouble finding it. i know it's there...
08:08 AM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, on your plasma routine, you reset the coordinates when you're done don't you?
08:08 AM rdtsc-wk: linear actuator based on what physics? suspect
08:09 AM Tom_L: you got me
08:10 AM Tom_L: i just looked at one of these with a squared block and i just think i need to reverse the way they rotate to be correct with the button images
08:23 AM Tom_L: ok sim looks right.... test later today
08:36 AM rdtsc-wk: speaking of physics, "sound lasers" might be a new thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogiqfrwLTyU
08:40 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/new_probe_test.png
08:40 AM Tom_L: that cutter path looks correct for the upper right button in the angle box ehh?
08:42 AM rdtsc-wk: lookin' good Tom! :)
08:43 AM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, zoom extents is kinda cool
08:46 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> a magnet free induction motor
08:46 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> and flattenenededdeddd
08:47 AM Tom_L: i think the guy under the table is moving it :)
08:50 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://x.com/daviderady
08:51 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> he also works with electrostatic devices and maybe Electroactive polymers
08:53 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://x.com/i/status/1710091864898953412
08:54 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> "linear actuator based on what physics? suspect" ^^^
08:55 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://x.com/daviderady/status/1710091864898953412
08:56 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> was trying to copy the video link vs just a pic
08:56 AM bjorkintosh: a magnet free induction motor
08:57 AM bjorkintosh: are the two not related anyway?
08:57 AM bjorkintosh: like saying "motion free downhill roll" or something?
09:04 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> or mindless comments
09:05 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> can't find a link to his description but it's near his posts on electrostatics
09:05 AM bjorkintosh: but am I wrong?
09:05 AM bjorkintosh: i thought induction and magnetism were intricately related.
09:05 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> sure
09:05 AM bjorkintosh: I stand corrected then.
09:05 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> induction without permanent magnets
09:06 AM * bjorkintosh cheers the death of his recent ignorance with a toast!
09:06 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> opposing farces
09:06 AM rdtsc-wk: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=yeah+toast
09:07 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> please watch the git video until it's clear
09:07 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> or until you can't stop laughing
09:08 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> <-- heads out to shop for some mind-blowing tests 😉
09:09 AM rdtsc-wk: good luck Travis, lets hope "bugs=off" was set in the code. :)
09:24 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://press.zf.com/press/en/releases/release_60480.html
09:37 AM roycroft: for a good time, check out the dictionary.com entry for "git"
09:37 AM roycroft: the definition is correct, but none of the example sentences use it as defined
09:40 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> FlexGUI Issue: documenting on forum now... brb
09:49 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> https://forum.linuxcnc.org/40-subroutines-and-ngcgui/54012-possible-bug-with-m66-p26-l4-q7-or-my-use-of-it-or-with-flexgui#311287
09:50 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> FlexGUI hangs on a M66 wait, but Axis does not.
10:22 AM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
10:23 AM lcnc-relay_ is now known as lcnc-relay
10:47 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> JT must still be on the road...
11:32 AM Tom_L: travis, i'd file an issue on git first
11:39 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: when can you make a new deb, with all your improvements ????
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> and is JT going to include all your stuff, in his deb ???
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> like images, probe routines, etc....
11:44 AM Tom_L: roguish, i plan to push it all once i've tested it all and jt gets back in town
11:44 AM Tom_L: til then.. it's not christmas yet
11:45 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok, cool
11:45 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Ton_L: which git? LinuxCNC or FlexGUI?
11:45 AM Tom_L: roguish, i have them ready, just want to verify on the machine
11:45 AM Tom_L: travis, if it's a flex issue then flex
11:45 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> ok, just making sure
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> only 9:30, and it's already 83
11:46 AM Tom_L: i'm sure he knows by now though
11:46 AM Tom_L: roguish, once things work i may try working on a full gui for them... not sure yet
11:47 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I started messing around with making a full gui the other day.... I may continue... not sure yet
11:48 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> it's difficult. I have a 27" touch screen on the mill. gotta figure out how to make everthing stretchable
11:48 AM Tom_L: what res?
11:49 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> at least 100
11:49 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> 1080
11:50 AM Tom_L: would you rather see one stretch or fixed to a 1920 x 1080 size?
11:50 AM roycroft: that's a pretty big display
11:50 AM rdtsc-wk: Roguish, put an exit button on it, and set it to fullscreen in the .ini
11:50 AM roycroft: you must have lots of unused real estate in your shop
11:50 AM roycroft: how is yours different to everyone else in the world's?
11:51 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> yeah, 1080p, just checked
11:51 AM Tom_L: i'd like to see one with the plot, gcode etc always showing with changeable things on tabs or something
11:52 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> that's what I like also, a large plot always on...
11:52 AM Tom_L: i think jt's been working on the plot too
11:53 AM Tom_L: it's been auto centering lately
11:53 AM Tom_L: zoom extents or whatever you call it
11:54 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> think if I add a 2nd monitor to my dev computer, I can separate the qtdesign menu things from the working display window,
11:54 AM Tom_L: i tried that a while and didn't like it personally
11:55 AM Tom_L: i'll do screenshots so i can see where i've been and view them on another pc
11:55 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> gotta check it out....
11:55 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> could try that tool
11:55 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> too.
11:55 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> you guys see the longshoremen are whining about automation......lol. frack 'em
11:55 AM Tom_L: that's one reason you get to see so many screenshots :)
11:56 AM Tom_L: i think they'd like to feed their families
11:57 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> 2 problems in the world now. over population, and over consumption........... every other problem is an effect of those causes
12:03 PM xxcoder: its snowing in my home
12:03 PM xxcoder: kidding, but dang cold. 55f inside lol
12:03 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> inside the trailer ?
12:03 PM xxcoder: yeah
12:04 PM roycroft: overpopulation is the big problem
12:04 PM roycroft: i would say inefficient consumption is more the latter problem than overconsumption
12:05 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> FlexGUI Issue #112 posted... hope he can find a way to solve it, i like using Flex 🙂
12:05 PM roycroft: i mean, the inefficiencies cause overconsumption
12:05 PM roycroft: but we do not need to do without things to solve overconsumption - we need to do things better
12:06 PM roycroft: do you really need to drive your kid to soccer practice in the humvee?
12:06 PM Tom_L: some feel they can so they do
12:07 PM roycroft: and that's the problem
12:07 PM Tom_L: it's the american way
12:07 PM roycroft: it's a way that is common in america
12:08 PM Tom_L: i've never seen as many homeless as i do today... ever
12:08 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> frack..... NYTimes is going to triple my online subscription....
12:08 PM roycroft: you can thank reagan for that
12:08 PM Tom_L: i'm not going to thank anyone
12:08 PM Tom_L: pointing finger solves nothing
12:09 PM roycroft: well some of our towns in oregon are going to eliminate the homeless problem
12:09 PM Tom_L: kick them out?
12:09 PM roycroft: they're making it illegal to sleep in a public space
12:09 PM roycroft: so they are going to round them up and put them in jail
12:09 PM Tom_L: kinda what i though
12:09 PM Tom_L: t
12:09 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Portland Maine did that, roycroft
12:09 PM Tom_L: so then they get free meals and a place to rest
12:10 PM Tom_L: at who's expense?
12:10 PM roycroft: because spending hundreds of dollars per night to incarcerate people makes more sense than spending $20/night per person to set up a homeless camp
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yup
12:10 PM roycroft: these towns are mostly in counties who consistently vote to slash funding for public safety
12:11 PM Tom_L: we've actually taken some schools here that have closed and turned them into shelters
12:11 PM roycroft: one county in southern oregon had to shut down its sheriff's department completely for a few years
12:11 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Portland Maine has literally turned homelessness into a crime...
12:11 PM Tom_L: schools are closing because education sucks and they're using alternatives
12:11 PM roycroft: they had to rely on state police for all law enforcement, and the state police were usually 2-4 hours away
12:12 PM roycroft: so if they put the homeless people in jail there will be no money to feed them or maintain sanitary conditions
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> education is fine, when people stop medeling with it
12:12 PM Tom_L: anyway, back to work and hopefully OT
12:12 PM * roycroft is upgrading a hypervisor at the moment
12:13 PM roycroft: i am a plug away from having power to my air compressor
12:13 PM Tom_L: cool
12:13 PM * rdtsc-wk is working on a Control Techniques DBE220 drive from like 30 years ago
12:13 PM roycroft: i don't have the plumbing done, but as soon as i get that plug i'm going to turn it on to make sure it still works ok
12:13 PM roycroft: the dust extractor will need a bit more work, because i'm reconfiguring it
12:14 PM roycroft: but having the compressor will be a big step forward
12:14 PM roycroft: maybe by november it will be last february in my shop :)
12:14 PM roycroft: (february was the last time i was able to use the old shop)
12:14 PM rdtsc-wk: all the warm months with no shop? uggh
12:15 PM rdtsc-wk: (unless in the sourthern hemisphere I guess
12:17 PM xxcoder: roy lives in same timezone as me
12:17 PM xxcoder: hundreds of miles south of me
12:18 PM roycroft: yeah, the timing has been pretty bad
12:20 PM rdtsc-wk: might be thinking about heat soon
12:21 PM roycroft: i'm going to be retrieving the 50a space heater from the old shop this weekend
12:21 PM roycroft: i don't have enough power in the new shop yet to run it at 50a, but i can dial it down to 20a and get some decent heat
12:22 PM roycroft: more importantly, i need to get some expanding foam to seal up the holes/cracks/gaps in the shop walls/roof
12:22 PM xxcoder: I wonder how much power you'd save if you made ducted suit to keep yourself warm
12:22 PM roycroft: i can't afford to heat the whole neighborhood
12:23 PM rdtsc-wk: it's too bad we couldn't store all this excess heat from the summer and use it in the winter
12:23 PM roycroft: i also need to insulate the walls and install some kind of sheeting on the inside of the shop - i'll probably go for osb, and sand it and stain it
12:23 PM xxcoder: there is ways to do exactly that rdtsc-wk
12:23 PM roycroft: we can - it's pretty old technology now
12:23 PM roycroft: but most folks don't do it
12:23 PM rdtsc-wk: geothermal heat pumping?
12:23 PM roycroft: back in the '70s there was a big movement to install heat pumps with underground reservoirs
12:23 PM Tom_L: clutter the landscape with windmills
12:24 PM xxcoder: thats not storing heat tom
12:24 PM Tom_L: no it is energy
12:24 PM roycroft: folks would install grids of 4" pvc tubing underground, fill the grid with anti-freeze, and store heat in them during the summer and release it during the winter
12:24 PM rdtsc-wk: I'd imagine that would be rather lossy
12:24 PM roycroft: but now we have these super-efficient heat pumps that can just extract heat from the atmosphere, even at sub-freezing temperatures
12:25 PM xxcoder: I wonder about pipes life because antifreeze wouldnt be great
12:25 PM roycroft: if you put the tubes deep enough in the ground it's somewhat efficient
12:25 PM Tom_L: doesn't sound too cost effective
12:25 PM roycroft: but our modern heat pumps are way more efficient
12:25 PM roycroft: which is why that technology died out
12:26 PM rdtsc-wk: if I were going to attempt something like that, would use many vacuum - insulated resevoirs - sounds expensive
12:26 PM Tom_L: my kid tests those for a living an i think they're down to 20F working efficiently
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: ground source heat pumps are the absolute best.....
12:27 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> the earth is a pretty big heat sink
12:27 PM roycroft: i have to say, that my power bill barely went up in july and august, and i had the ac running almost constantly
12:27 PM roycroft: the heat pump is pretty good
12:27 PM roycroft: i hope it performs as well this winter when it's doing the opposite job
12:28 PM xxcoder: bunch of lathe milling https://youtu.be/F9WiiHAwknk
12:28 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> i've found with my heat pump that heating is way more expensive than cooling
12:29 PM xxcoder: yet at WORSE its 1:1 which is just basic space heater
12:29 PM xxcoder: its still better than space heater most times
12:31 PM xxcoder: well resistor heating is better word but yeah
12:50 PM lcnc-relay: <rhine_labs> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/HDcVbYiyYPuoOcpJihakJiMh/BPM_Microsystems_3800_MK2_APS_Chip_Programmer_Unboxed_Medium.jpg
12:50 PM lcnc-relay: <rhine_labs> New Machine.
12:51 PM rdtsc-wk: purty :)
01:44 PM rdtsc-wk: Very random fact for the day: if the cat litter box is really bad, doing sewer repairs, or dead vermin in car, wear a paint respirator that has filter cartridges. The cartridges trap organic compounds; highly effective against odors.
01:47 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> cat litter box requires a full-face, as the ammonia can burn the eyes 😉
01:51 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> the cat piddle poo box should never, ever, get that bad
01:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> it should be shoveled every day. (granted - I have kids and they take turns - I still have to do a once a week full clean)
02:00 PM xxcoder: thats why even when I want to hve cats, I will never get them
02:00 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> geez guys, i was making a joke...
02:01 PM xxcoder: I dont hve enough energy to take care of em lol
02:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> we take our cats seriously.. 😉
02:01 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i do to, but i take my humor more seriously 😉
02:06 PM * roycroft scoops the cat box saily
02:06 PM roycroft: daily
02:07 PM roycroft: one of my new kittens is about to get the nickname "baron von poopenheimer", though
02:07 PM roycroft: if she's not eating she is pooping
02:07 PM roycroft: except when she's terrorizing me
02:07 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> LMAO, sounds like a kitten
02:47 PM roycroft: the kittens actualy sleep for 12-14 hours/day
02:48 PM roycroft: but they are so active when they are not sleeping that one thinks that they never sleep - they more than make up for the downtime
02:48 PM roycroft: and i still have not found where they make their beds
02:49 PM roycroft: i've had them for a month but still cannot find where they sleep
02:49 PM roycroft: i'm sure that is intentional on their part
02:52 PM xxcoder: hey roy do you want the 6040 router?
02:53 PM xxcoder: would need some electric upgrades and work but it might work on making parts for your final router project
02:53 PM xxcoder: free
03:07 PM roycroft: how big is it?
03:09 PM xxcoder: a sec
03:10 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/1JMSRF6Q9uw
03:10 PM xxcoder: wow been 7 years already
03:11 PM roycroft: <xxcoder> a sec
03:13 PM roycroft: i'd be interested if i can find a time to get it
03:13 PM roycroft: i could use something to bootstrap parts for my eventual router
03:13 PM roycroft: when do you need it gone?
03:14 PM xxcoder: soonish, I do plan a trip to portland sometime still lol
03:14 PM xxcoder: you can get book scanner and delta 3d print along with it
03:16 PM roycroft: well i could meet you in pdx
03:16 PM roycroft: that would be easier than going to tacoma
03:20 PM xxcoder: yeah
03:23 PM roycroft: so let me know when it's going to work for you - hopefully after the 20th
03:24 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
03:24 PM xxcoder: ok
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> there, i made up a Stable (Axis) config so i can use my machine while the FlexGUI issue is sorted... kind of a pain to maintain two similar configs, but i gotta be able to fully use my machine
03:43 PM Tom_L: roguish, http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/2x3_block_test.mp4
04:07 PM Tom_L: same https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8hpXoHmHzk
04:09 PM Tom_L: actually use the yt link... i'm taking the mp4 off the server
04:30 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: cool, seems to work
04:37 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> up to 99 here
04:37 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> 15% humidity
05:07 PM rdtsc: very nice Tom :)
05:08 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
05:33 PM xxcoder: wow boaty mcboatface have been busy in 7 years since its creation
05:35 PM xxcoder: most recent being aug 2024, finished 55 day mission and traveled 2,000 km
06:27 PM _unreal_: non of my next day amazon items arrived today. NOT SHOCKED
06:29 PM _unreal_: roycroft, my daughter is dieing for a cat. The second I get out of this house and into a new one I'm going to be getting my daughter a kitten
06:32 PM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, inch & metric probe routines are 100% tested now
06:40 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: just learned something interesting. if ya copy/paste from one ui to another, and it refers to an axis. it work, but if ya paste it again, say into a different tab, the axis number gets incremented.......
06:41 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> making progress on my ui.......... gotta figure out how to post images...
06:41 PM JT-Mobile: you
06:41 PM JT-Mobile: yo
06:41 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> who, me ?
06:42 PM JT-Mobile: what?
06:42 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> copy and pasting lots of your stuff JT
06:42 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Mobile:
06:42 PM JT-Mobile: one trick is to paste into a widget that does not have a layout then drag to another that does have a layout
06:43 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> haven't tried the drag thing yet
06:44 PM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, should i wait til you get back to push this?
06:44 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> only error so far is setting the axis coords for a G5x
06:44 PM Tom_L: roguish, yeah the double paste increments the widget name
06:45 PM Tom_L: you can copy between 2 as well as long as your careful
06:45 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> yup, figured that one out
06:45 PM Tom_L: otherwise you'll be renaming alot of widgets
06:46 PM Tom_L: just finished testing everything this evening
06:48 PM Tom_L: i'm not too fond of layouts :) but i'm sure they're a necessary evil
06:48 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> i'll show ya mine soon
06:48 PM Tom_L: nice
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> i do need all your probing
06:49 PM Tom_L: it's ready just waiting for jt to get back now
06:49 PM Tom_L: i can post a ui if you wanna copy the widgets
06:50 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> no hurry
06:50 PM Tom_L: you'd need the qss and resources.py file for the images etc to show up
06:51 PM Tom_L: there could be a few tweaks to the subs but they all work
06:52 PM JT-Mobile: Tom_L, you can push any time you want
06:52 PM Tom_L: after i was done testing, i increased the distance between probe points and that worked like a treat
06:52 PM Tom_L: ran most at .500", tested 1" and 2" base distance
06:53 PM JT-Mobile: been a long day
06:53 PM Tom_L: and if you increase that too much, say 10" you can increase the XY TRAVEL var and it will still probe the 2nd point
06:54 PM Tom_L: that is set at 3" i think
06:54 PM Tom_L: it never comes close to that
06:54 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Tom_L: so I did the 2nd monitor trick on the same compter. works good
06:54 PM Tom_L: the probe trips first
06:54 PM * JT-Mobile attempts to stay up until 8pm
06:54 PM Tom_L: i tried that on my primary pc and the bios just doesn't like it
06:55 PM Tom_L: so i'm running a separate pc for linux now
06:55 PM JT-Mobile: looks like travis has found a possible bug with m66
06:55 PM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, i'll push this, hopefully i'll get all the changed files
06:55 PM Tom_L: saw that
06:56 PM Tom_L: i'll run the sim in the examples before i push it
06:56 PM Tom_L: close to 40 subs now i think
07:05 PM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, PR #113
07:06 PM Tom_L: i added the images source too in case someone want's to add to the resources.py file
07:07 PM JT-Mobile: ok
07:08 PM roycroft: well, i have 225l of air @9.2 bars right now
07:08 PM roycroft: it has nowhere to go, because i have some plumbing work to do before i can use it
07:08 PM roycroft: but it's there
07:08 PM roycroft: hopefully it will still be there tomorrow, at the same pressure
07:09 PM roycroft: that was the first time since february that the compressor has run
07:09 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> dinner time. see ya all this weekend
07:09 PM Tom_L: roycroft, horizontal or vertical tank?
07:09 PM roycroft: vertical
07:10 PM roycroft: i'm alwasy real-estate challenged
07:10 PM roycroft: always, rather
07:10 PM Tom_L: i had a smaller horizontal once i mounted on a shelf near the celing
07:10 PM roycroft: the drain is still underneath the tank, and it's a pain in the butt to hook up a hose and drain it
07:11 PM Tom_L: i don't think the trusses would support the 80 gal
07:11 PM Tom_L: i put a hose on mine with a ball valve
07:11 PM roycroft: when i do the rest of the plumbing i'm going to route the drain to the outside of the shed and put a hose bibb on the shed wall
07:11 PM Tom_L: sitting on a platform othewise the ball valve would hit the floor
07:12 PM roycroft: i can reuse most of the plumbing from the old shop, other than the pieces that i cut in half with a sawzall when removing them
07:12 PM roycroft: but i need a few additional fittings and pipe
07:12 PM roycroft: i think i have a couple lengths of 1/2" galvanized pipe at the old place still - i have not moved my metal stock yet
07:13 PM roycroft: and i'm sure i have all the fittings i need, but i have no idea where they are, so i'll probably end up buying what i need now, and finding the old ones the next day
07:13 PM Tom_L: i ran iron to the drop where i use it
07:13 PM roycroft: the compressor lives in a shed outside the shop
07:14 PM roycroft: it's covered but not at all climate controlled
07:14 PM Tom_L: mine is in a small room off the garage
07:14 PM roycroft: i figured galvanized would be best
07:14 PM roycroft: i could use black iron pipe and paint it
07:14 PM Tom_L: i considered copper when i put it in
07:14 PM Tom_L: not sure what it's rated for
07:14 PM Tom_L: mine goes to 175psi
07:14 PM JT-Mobile: some nut has placed 6 orders and has not paid for them so the timed out and cancelled
07:14 PM roycroft: well the compressor vibrates a bit
07:15 PM roycroft: not too badly, but enough that i'm concerned about hard piping it to the air plumbing
07:15 PM Tom_L: i've got a short flex hose connected between the pipe and tank
07:15 PM roycroft: so i have a short piece of copper flex pipe from the compressor outlet to the plumbing
07:15 PM Tom_L: like 2' or so
07:15 PM roycroft: yeah, that's about how long mine is
07:15 PM roycroft: just enough to absorb the vibration
07:15 PM Tom_L: rubber
07:16 PM Tom_L: some no clamp type thing but it's lasted all these years
07:16 PM roycroft: mine's copper, as i said, and it's lasted about 25 years so far with no signs of fatigue
07:16 PM roycroft: rubber would be just as good, as long as it's not in the sun
07:17 PM Tom_L: i found a used 3phase relay i'm using a couple phases off it
07:17 PM JT-Mobile: why would someone go through the trouble to place a bunch of orders and not pay for them
07:17 PM Tom_L: some kid maybe
07:17 PM Tom_L: who knows
07:17 PM roycroft: they are either hoping they would "accidently" ship without payment, or they intended to buy but changed their mind for whatever reason and did not bother to cancel
07:17 PM Tom_L: screw with your inventory count
07:18 PM roycroft: yeah, maybe it's your arch-enemy competetor who wants to tie up your inventory so folks will have to go to them
07:19 PM JT-Mobile: tie up inventory for a few minutes...
07:19 PM JT-Mobile: it's the same item several times and a different item
07:19 PM roycroft: i did not say it was your intellectually superior arch-enemy
07:19 PM JT-Mobile: lol
07:19 PM JT-Mobile: is there a way to block their ip
07:20 PM Tom_L: it's not off your router..
07:20 PM Tom_L: dunno
07:20 PM roycroft: if you've installed wordfence on your website you can block ips
07:20 PM roycroft: if you haven't installed wordfence on your website you should :)
07:21 PM roycroft: at least the free version, which is still very useful
07:21 PM * JT-Mobile takes a look at wordfence
07:21 PM * Tom_L takes a look at the easy chair
07:21 PM roycroft: i'm sure there are other ways to do it, but it's easy with wordfence
07:22 PM JT-Mobile: does wordfence make it difficult for customers?
07:23 PM roycroft: it doesn't have to
07:23 PM roycroft: legitimate customers never know it's there
07:23 PM JT-Mobile: ok
07:23 PM roycroft: it's very tunable, so you can set it to be very relaxed, and tighten down screws as needed
07:25 PM roycroft: marjory taylor greene is now claiming that "they" (meaning democrats or jews or italians - i'm not sure which) can control the weather, and created helene and caused it to devastate red areas and do no damage to blue areas
07:25 PM roycroft: she really gives democrats, jews, or italians a lot of credit - that kind of technology would be pretty amazing
07:25 PM roycroft: and is probably at least a hundred years away
07:26 PM roycroft: maybe democrats/jews/italians came from the future
07:27 PM roycroft: we know they took ur jerbs :)
07:27 PM * JT-Mobile is tired and just deleted the orders
07:28 PM roycroft: that's probably the easiest thing to do right now
07:28 PM _unreal_: roguish if you have not already figured it out. use GOOGLE photo. easy way to share photos
07:28 PM roycroft: and whoever is placing them will probably get bored and move on soon
07:28 PM roycroft: but you really should look into wordfence
07:28 PM roycroft: when you have the time
07:28 PM JT-Mobile: I did take a peek at it
07:28 PM _unreal_: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ggAPhV6uwbvr4jLs8 roguish
07:30 PM _unreal_: I'm 3d pringing din mounts right now so I can mount my new parasitotic pump. that runs on stepper motor.
07:30 PM _unreal_: I have a small box I'm putting together with a nice single stepper motor controller with small ctrl panel
07:30 PM * roycroft avoids anything google as much as possible, and now has yet another reason to do so
07:31 PM _unreal_: will make it nice to control its going to be for cooling when milling stone and super slow so I can use it as MIST
07:31 PM roycroft: they are crawling an internal (but with a public ip) website that we've asked them not to crawl
07:31 PM _unreal_: I cant wait to get it all setup
07:31 PM _unreal_: roycroft, my daughter has been betting me for a cat for years
07:32 PM roycroft: they tell me that even if we have a robots.txt file that tells crawlers to go away, and a noindex metatag on the landing page, of a third-party site links to ours they will crawl it anyway
07:32 PM roycroft: we told them it is causing serious harm, which it is
07:32 PM _unreal_: when I get out of this house. which should be semi soon few months fingers crossed
07:32 PM roycroft: and they gave us a mechanism to delete their cache for six month
07:32 PM roycroft: i used that mechanism
07:33 PM roycroft: and they are still displaying the results as the top hit on searches
07:33 PM _unreal_: roycroft, ?
07:33 PM _unreal_: machine?
07:33 PM _unreal_: oh mechanism
07:33 PM roycroft: the non-profit i volunteer for is in its election season
07:33 PM _unreal_: I dont have my glasses on. hell I ont know where I put them
07:33 PM roycroft: and people google for "our non-profit election"
07:33 PM roycroft: and they get this result that points to something that has never had anything to do with our elections
07:34 PM roycroft: then they get pissed off at us because they don't get the results they need to contact us or get their ballot
07:35 PM roycroft: i don't blame google completely for having crawled the site in the first place (although i blame them mostly, because i told them to go away)
07:35 PM roycroft: but i do blame them completely for telling me how to get the site removed from their search engine, and then not removing it when i did what they told me to do
07:36 PM _unreal_: roycroft, KITTENS THINK KITTENS
07:36 PM _unreal_: easy
07:36 PM JT-Mobile: sounds like google double talk
07:36 PM _unreal_: down boy
07:36 PM roycroft: my new kittens are named clara and fanny
07:36 PM JT-Mobile: btw how are the kittens?
07:36 PM roycroft: but clara has the nickname "squeaky"
07:36 PM _unreal_: toy?
07:36 PM roycroft: because she doesn't meow - she squeaks
07:37 PM roycroft: and fanny has the nickname "terror kitty"
07:37 PM roycroft: because, well, she behaves like a kitten
07:37 PM JT-Mobile: the black lady that helped my grandmother was named Clara and boy could she cook
07:37 PM _unreal_: My daughter is dieing DIEING for a kitten
07:37 PM roycroft: i may have told this story here, so if i have, pardon me for repeating it
07:37 PM _unreal_: t4nk_fn, whats new?
07:38 PM roycroft: when i got the kittens their names were "bowie" and "briar"
07:38 PM roycroft: which i thought were dumb
07:38 PM _unreal_: roycroft, would be news to me. I've been working 2 jobs
07:38 PM _unreal_: dont get home till like 8pm something at nice
07:38 PM * JT-Mobile calls it a night
07:38 PM _unreal_: night
07:38 PM roycroft: i was asked what i was going to change their names to, and i said i would find out when they told me
07:39 PM JT-Mobile: something unique will tell you their names
07:39 PM roycroft: on the way home i was listening to krvm on the radio - a local station that plays eclectic music, mostly upbeat, lots of traditional rock
07:39 PM JT-Mobile: it's always worked for us
07:39 PM t4nk_fn: y0, _unreal_, what's up, you old criminal mastermind
07:39 PM roycroft: the kittens were rather agitated about the ride
07:39 PM roycroft: it was an hour's drive from the shelter to my house
07:39 PM roycroft: at some point during the drive i changed to the classical station
07:39 PM roycroft: and they calmed down immediately
07:39 PM roycroft: the music really changed their attitudes
07:39 PM xxcoder: classical kittens
07:40 PM roycroft: so i named them clara, after clara shubert, and fanny, after fanny mendelssohn
07:40 PM roycroft: perhaps the two most prominent female classical composers of the 19th century
07:41 PM roycroft: they started responding to their new names almost right way, too, so that underscored the choices
07:42 PM roycroft: if i call on by name that one looks up and usually not the other
07:42 PM roycroft: one
07:42 PM roycroft: especially for kittens that young that's a bit unusual
07:42 PM roycroft: they are just over 3 months old now
07:42 PM xxcoder: that music may have increased their iq by 5 tmes
07:43 PM roycroft: i listen to a mix of things at home
07:43 PM roycroft: fanny is a big star trek fan, btw
07:44 PM roycroft: whenever i turn on a star trek episode she gets up on the ottoman and watches the show
07:44 PM roycroft: and i just finished enterprise a bit over a week ago, and am now watching discovery
07:44 PM roycroft: but she still watches it
07:45 PM roycroft: other shows, not so much so she must just be into sci-fi
07:45 PM _unreal_: t4nk_fn, https://photos.app.goo.gl/ggAPhV6uwbvr4jLs8
07:45 PM _unreal_: was is the kitechen checking on DIN and making an other martine
07:45 PM _unreal_: martini
07:49 PM t4nk_fn: that haunted mansion thing is starting to look better
07:50 PM t4nk_fn: needs a bit more detail if you ask me, but it's kewl
07:50 PM t4nk_fn: but... look man.. GIVE THOSE CHEESE CUTTING BOARDS WITH THE GRAPes a friggin rest already!!
07:50 PM t4nk_fn: and.. go shave your knuckles ;)
07:52 PM _unreal_: It does need more detail but it's SHRUNK from the original STL
07:52 PM _unreal_: so I lost some detail
07:52 PM t4nk_fn: you just need to use a smaller bit I guess
07:52 PM _unreal_: plus I use ESTLcam which IMO is ok on STL cnc 3d milling but not the best
07:52 PM _unreal_: it was a small bit
07:52 PM t4nk_fn: or another few passes with a smaller bit
07:52 PM _unreal_: 1/16 ball
07:52 PM _unreal_: 6 hours
07:53 PM t4nk_fn: hehe.. yeah.. that's probably nothing
07:54 PM _unreal_: and leave my bearded knuckles alone.
07:54 PM _unreal_: I was thinking about pony tails
07:54 PM _unreal_: for them though
07:55 PM _unreal_: t4nk_fn, I'm designing a splash/jigging tank for mounting stone and anything that needs water curing milling jobs
07:55 PM _unreal_: for that new machine
07:55 PM _unreal_: its only 1.5kw but WOW its powerful
07:55 PM _unreal_: compaired to my original cnc machine. with a .3kw
07:56 PM _unreal_: and the .3kw machine made all the parts to make the new big machine
07:56 PM _unreal_: btw that cheese cutting board is for my step mother
07:57 PM _unreal_: she was changing my dipies starting when I was .6 years old.
07:58 PM _unreal_: t4nk_fn, so how about you what grand cnc projects have you worked on?
07:59 PM roycroft: well, it's only been an hour, but the compressor tank is still holding pressure
07:59 PM roycroft: i'll know better tomorrow evening how well i did reassembling it
07:59 PM t4nk_fn: not much, a bit of coding on my cnc app
08:00 PM * roycroft has a meeting in 40 minutes, but would rather just chill
08:00 PM t4nk_fn: but I was thinking of maybe buying such a 3018 or whatever the heck they're called .. and use that as a basis for a pcb milling machine
08:00 PM t4nk_fn: see how good I can get it to be
08:07 PM _unreal_: t4nk_fn, I would suggest maybe something a little larger if it is with in your means. mainly a stationary work bed. not a Y axis style work bed
08:08 PM acer: hum
08:08 PM acer: sob
08:08 PM t4nk_fn: ? is such a thing a bed slinger?
08:08 PM acer is now known as _unreal_
08:09 PM _unreal_: sorry we just had an odd power surge and I lost connection
08:09 PM _unreal_: bed slinger?
08:11 PM t4nk_fn: yeah slinger or flinger
08:11 PM _unreal_: t4nk_fn, https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/CNC-3040-800W-3-Axis-CNC_1600145679447.html
08:11 PM t4nk_fn: like 3d printers do
08:12 PM _unreal_: dont know whwat a slinger or flinger is in regards to cnc
08:12 PM _unreal_: even 3d pringing
08:12 PM _unreal_: printing
08:13 PM t4nk_fn: ouch that thing is way too much man
08:13 PM _unreal_: $$ hum
08:13 PM _unreal_: ok
08:13 PM t4nk_fn: I don't need a big size, nor strength
08:13 PM t4nk_fn: nor power
08:13 PM t4nk_fn: but accuracy
08:14 PM t4nk_fn: to do some fine pcb work
08:15 PM _unreal_: dude I make a promise right now. should this deal I'm working on with a ...... big company. pan out may be a few years but. I'm buying you a 6040 or similar cnc
08:15 PM t4nk_fn: lol
08:16 PM _unreal_: you think I'm kidding
08:16 PM t4nk_fn: well.. I'm gonna hold you to that!
08:16 PM t4nk_fn: yeah, you are
08:16 PM _unreal_: no
08:16 PM t4nk_fn: but uhm
08:16 PM _unreal_: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZVxFnvZABBCnJGsW9
08:16 PM t4nk_fn: ... I'm thinking about those stocks or whatever from the other day ... ;)
08:16 PM t4nk_fn: that ship has sailed too, I guess, right
08:17 PM _unreal_: dude my dad died in jan. I'm almost done dealing with the BS from the mess he created (probate)
08:17 PM _unreal_: t4nk_fn, 5 siblings, 4 properties and assets EVERYWHERE. and intentional road blocks to most of them. WTF level
08:18 PM _unreal_: angry man
08:18 PM _unreal_: I never break a promess
08:18 PM _unreal_: I may miss spell than though
08:18 PM _unreal_: them
08:18 PM _unreal_: >:)
08:19 PM _unreal_: back in a few din din with teh kid DONT got away t4nk_fn too far
08:21 PM t4nk_fn: I may not hold out for too much longer though, having trouble keeping my eyes open
08:21 PM roycroft: probate is often very messy
08:22 PM roycroft: and if you're the estate executor, that can be almost a full-time job
08:25 PM t4nk_fn: yeah, darnit, I don't have my dictionary installed here.. need to look that up ;)
08:47 PM _unreal_: and I'm back
