02:16 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hello
03:30 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:45 AM mrec_: did anyone use a laser interferometer for checking the accuracy of a machine?
04:10 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:31 AM jpa-: mrec_: not a CNC machine specifically, but at work they used Leica AT402 to check an industrial robot thing
04:32 AM jpa-: for hobbyist budgets though, the laser + webcam sensor is a good check for flatness & twist, gauge blocks with a probe is good check for dimensional accuracy and reference square works for checking perpendicularity
04:33 AM Scopeuk: that style of laser works very differently to an interferometer. that one is using a positioning head to track targets, an interferometer looks at the constructive/destructive interference patterns generated by a laser beam which has been split and run through dissimilar paths
04:34 AM jpa-: Scopeuk: i agree - i'm not sure how an interferometer would be used for anything except linear distance measurement, for which it sounds cumbersome and not really better than the alternatives
04:35 AM jpa-: i'm not sure how the leica one does the distance measurement - time of flight probably
04:35 AM mrec_: I recovered this misubishi 1100x690mm CNC machine, so now that everything works I just want to verify the accuracy once.
04:35 AM mrec_: I think about hiring a company for giving us some report so we know where we are with that machine
04:36 AM jpa-: yeah, there isn't really "the accuracy" :)
04:36 AM mrec_: 1100x690 (active milling area)
04:41 AM Tom_L: morning
04:54 AM mrec_: "the accuracy" = tolerances that can be expected
05:33 AM NoSpark: does M5 pause execution until the spindle is at 0RPM, or should I use M3 S0.0 then a M5
05:35 AM NoSpark: or even a S0 $-1 then an M5
05:37 AM NoSpark: I have used a interferometer for calibrating a machine, and also played with a CMM machine that used a bunch of interferometers for axis feedback
05:39 AM NoSpark: jpa- there are 2 mirror interferometers that can measure flatness
