04:35 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Holiday weekend starts in two hours
04:36 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> meisterdippel what's new?

05:47 AM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> morning
05:51 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hello
05:52 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I'm looking for a spindle PID hal/ini files in order to improve my setup
05:52 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> If someone has a working file... this would be appreciated π
05:52 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Thank you
06:35 AM JT-Mobile: spindle pid is usually all 0 except FF0 which is 1
06:37 AM lcnc-relay: <thorhian> Looking at the AT machines, they are all very light or they are moving gantry machines, the opposite of what I look for. Also, a machine frame is hard to make for an individual, especially one made of cast iron. Having made a smaller and lighter C frame vertical mill out of structural steel with no other machine tools other than a drill press, itβs hard work to get that into a usable frame. EG is a fickle thing, and UHPC in the...
06:37 AM lcnc-relay: ... US suitable for machine building seems to be difficult and expensive to get a hold of.
06:41 AM lcnc-relay: <thorhian> Buying a decent quality CNC mill outright is usually out of reach for someone like me. Buying used usually means having to buy something that is way too big for most (old iron), or something like a tormach or syil machine, both still costing a lot more than building your own or relegating yourself to a router.
06:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> even the P is 0?
06:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> i managed to have everything working
06:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> but i dont think it really effective yet
06:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_7ghO6s098
06:48 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> speed seems to be volatile
07:13 AM rdtsc-wk: !@#$log
07:28 AM rdtsc-wk: @vibram think I've heard of others in the forums using a tiny bit, like 0.01, of PID. Perhaps someone here can recommend something more specific. Is the spindle visibly jerky? What is the motor and VFD? Is it good at higher speeds?
07:29 AM JT-Mobile: I don't have my notes about spindle settings near by, I'm out of town
07:41 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Idk about the motor, a 3 phases asynchronous
07:41 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Yaskawa vfd so good quality
07:41 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I make a minor adjustment in vfd so I had less than 2 or 3% or error
07:43 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/PbskPZlVgqYzZFOSXkyGFipN/VID_20240830_143540.mp4
07:43 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Seems better at 500 rpm
07:44 AM rdtsc-wk: Could be some VFD parameter at low speeds - typically the drive reduces voltage/current at slow speeds and perhaps this just needs tweaked a little.
07:45 AM rdtsc-wk: If it's safe to do so, try adding some load to the spindle at slow speed and see if it stabilizes
07:50 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hum OK, I need to think about it
07:50 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> 4kw motor, don't want to put my arm in this chuck π
08:15 AM rdtsc-wk: gosh no... but if it's safe to press a block of wood against it or something, that could tell you if it's just a parameter issue.
08:18 AM rdtsc-wk: (load = forces drive to emit more volts and current = stabilization)
08:29 AM jpa-: could also be noise in feedback, depending on how it is done
09:46 AM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> wololol

10:50 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel> i wonder if i should include a log that records the power consumption before and after a job
11:06 AM roycroft: i just read an article that claims that some gen-z children change their mood when they become teenagers and become defiant towards their parents
11:06 AM roycroft: what is wrong with kids these days? :)
11:09 AM bjorkintosh: hahaha
11:09 AM * roycroft heads down to eugene to get the trailer and empty out the rest of the house on that note
11:09 AM bjorkintosh: they're animals.

04:00 PM JT-Shop: wow I just checked the mail and there was 3.5 pounds of C3 service manuals in there
04:08 PM Tom_L: that should keep you busy a while
04:16 PM JT-Shop: just need ups to show up with the parts
04:55 PM Tom_L: the UPS lady wan't that happy today. she had to unload ~200lbs of crap
05:03 PM JT-Shop: yuck
05:52 PM JT-Shop: just got 35lbs of brake calipers and hardware
05:52 PM Tom_L: just in time for a long weekend
06:04 PM JT-Shop: yup
06:11 PM JT-Shop: alright time to call it a day
06:11 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> skunkworks8841 why did the technicians mount the server near the ceiling? (joke setup question)
06:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Uh.... Waiting for the punch line
06:12 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Because they wanted HIGHER speed data
06:12 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> dad joke 101
06:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Lol.. I wanted a place to put one server away from the server room.. this was the only utility room that was air-conditioned.. but maintenance didn't want to take up any floor space.. so..
06:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> 10GB fiber to it.
06:14 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> well, heck, cocktail time......................
06:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Already started
06:16 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I just had my morning coffee
06:16 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> my holiday weekend started about 11 hours ago
06:18 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> one of the perks of getting older is needing less sleep, so i find it easier to flip schedules now than in my 20's
07:41 PM bjorkintosh: morning coffee?
07:41 PM bjorkintosh: oh you're in a different timezone altogether?

10:13 PM xxcoder: ugh humid bomb
10:13 PM xxcoder: feels like 50%? 60%?
10:27 PM roycroft: it was hot here today
10:27 PM roycroft: but not overly humid
10:27 PM roycroft: we did get dewedon this morning again, though
10:28 PM roycroft: it's kind of septemberish already, and has been for a few days
10:29 PM * roycroft has about 80% of the old house completely cleared out now, garage shop and outbuildings notwithstanding
10:30 PM roycroft: i think the house will be empty by sunday
10:31 PM xxcoder: today and tomorrow is surpise hot days
10:32 PM roycroft: those days being hot has been in our forecast for days
10:32 PM xxcoder: not too hot though, 83 84f
10:32 PM xxcoder: lol yeah wasnt too literal
10:33 PM roycroft: i have a friend coming to help on sunday - i have three large piece of furniture to move (going to the goodwill), a kegerator and a chest freezer
10:33 PM roycroft: my friend will help me with that stuff
10:33 PM xxcoder: nice, and if they get damaged eh whatever right'
10:33 PM roycroft: i plan on finishing up the little stuff tomorrow
10:33 PM roycroft: it's a reliable friend
10:33 PM roycroft: however, my back is in really bad shape, so i can't lift things as well as usual
10:34 PM roycroft: it's bad enough right now that my left arm, the one that had the broken wrist, is the stronger one
10:34 PM xxcoder: yeah back is very critical
10:35 PM xxcoder: I know it well as I had arthitis of back since I was 27
10:35 PM roycroft: i have a strained muscle - i was in fairly excruciating pain the other day
10:35 PM roycroft: such that i drove down to the er for x-rays
10:36 PM roycroft: i was moving some welding gear, and had arranged for a helper to assist with unloading
10:36 PM roycroft: the helper did not show up, so i had to do it myself
10:36 PM roycroft: and one of the straps that holds my unloading ramps in place broke
10:36 PM roycroft: the ramp went down, the welding cart went down, and i went down
10:37 PM roycroft: the welding cart was not damaged too badly, and the welder was not on it at the time
10:37 PM roycroft: but my co-pay for the er visit will be more than the cost of the cart
10:38 PM roycroft: not to mention the 5 hours of my life i lost going down there for the x-rays
10:38 PM xxcoder: er wait is very long and boring
10:38 PM roycroft: yes
10:38 PM roycroft: i mean, when i broke my wrist, they got me in almost immediately
10:38 PM roycroft: it was pretty bad, and everyone knew it
10:39 PM roycroft: but the back issue wasn't as urgent
10:39 PM roycroft: they gave me some tylenol and i got to hang out for a couple hours
10:39 PM xxcoder: longest wait I ever had was 6 hours for cut on wrist few years ago
10:40 PM roycroft: triage is real and important
10:40 PM xxcoder: then it turns out they forgot I am deaf and didnt hear them call out for me, even after I told them I need someone come tell me
10:40 PM roycroft: i had a six or so hour wait when i had a bike crash back when i lived in chicago
10:40 PM xxcoder: it was serious cut, needing sewing shut
10:40 PM roycroft: they gave the gunshot and stabbing victims priority, and i was fine with that
10:41 PM xxcoder: makes sense
10:41 PM roycroft: they should have made good enough notes about you that that should not have happened
10:42 PM xxcoder: yeah thankfully I had used cotton and package tape to have very strong "bandage"
10:42 PM xxcoder: it didnt bleed whole wait
10:42 PM roycroft: ca glue works pretty well
10:42 PM xxcoder: yeah unless you have to move big alum blocks
10:42 PM xxcoder: I did
10:43 PM xxcoder: I now have fun sucuide mark on my wrist to remind me of that stupid accient
10:43 PM * roycroft 's meeting just ended
10:43 PM roycroft: i'm going to try to take it a bit easy tomorrow
10:43 PM xxcoder: run before they nab you into another meeting!
10:43 PM roycroft: when i went to the er i was in serious pain (monday night)
10:44 PM roycroft: tuesday i was in pain, but it was pretty tolerable
10:44 PM roycroft: same on wednesday, until i got home in the evening - then the muscle spasms and extreme pain started
10:44 PM roycroft: thursday i could hardly move
10:45 PM roycroft: but today i felt a lot better, until i was unloading the trailer and pickup
10:45 PM xxcoder: that sucks
10:45 PM xxcoder: good that its getting better
10:45 PM roycroft: well if i just took it easy and did not do anything stressful for a week or so i'd be fine
10:45 PM roycroft: but this happened at the end of my move, which i can't postpone any longer
10:46 PM roycroft: i am not buying or using any more medium size boxes, though
10:46 PM xxcoder: you moved those very good wood drawers right?
10:46 PM roycroft: i am using exclusively small boxes
10:46 PM roycroft: yes, that was done in the beginning of une
10:46 PM roycroft: june
10:46 PM xxcoder: well except for stuff that dont fit in that :)
10:46 PM roycroft: my wood shop, for the most part, moved the first weekend of june
10:47 PM roycroft: i actually had the entire garage shop emptied, except for the stuff in the loft, six weeks ago
10:48 PM roycroft: my real problem is that i need space for the stuff
10:48 PM roycroft: i finished building a metal shed a few weeks ago, so my lawn and garden stuff is mostly moved into that now
10:48 PM roycroft: and i'm in the process of building a lean-to shed next to the shop, where my big air compressor, my dust extractor, and solvent/paint cabinet will live
10:49 PM roycroft: that project got a good start, but is now on hold while i finish moving out of the old place
10:49 PM xxcoder: hats good
10:49 PM xxcoder: +t
10:50 PM roycroft: after i get the house emptied, i'm going to work on both projects at the same time
10:50 PM roycroft: finishing the new shed, and moving out of the outbuildings
10:50 PM * roycroft will be so glad when this is all done
10:50 PM * roycroft never wants to move again
10:51 PM roycroft: so i hope i like it here, which i won't know until i actually hang out here
10:51 PM roycroft: to date, i mainly eat, sleep, and poop here
10:51 PM roycroft: and spend the rest of my life dealing with the old house
10:51 PM xxcoder: perfect, hunt, nest, and terrory marking
10:52 PM xxcoder: ill have life changes soon. fun!
10:53 PM xxcoder: you still want the book scanner and delta printer?
10:53 PM roycroft: on a positive note for me, i went to the humane society yesterday to find out about cat adoptions
10:53 PM roycroft: i might still want them
10:53 PM roycroft: i wanted to get a kitten, since i lost my last cat a couple months ago
10:53 PM xxcoder: I dont know what to do with cnc router. I wont be able to use em
10:53 PM xxcoder: yeah rememebr that
10:54 PM roycroft: they had several bonded pairs, and they have been having trouble adopting them, because most folks just want one
10:54 PM xxcoder: router needs pretty lot new electrics as ones I bought sucked
10:54 PM roycroft: so they offered me a bonded pair for the price of a single kitten
10:54 PM roycroft: and gave me a senior discount on top of that
10:54 PM xxcoder: its always better to have 2 or more than one
10:54 PM roycroft: yes, it is good to have 2 or 3
10:54 PM roycroft: and i found the most adorable paire
10:54 PM xxcoder: nice
10:55 PM roycroft: so next week, after they get spayed, i'll have two kittens
10:55 PM xxcoder: I would love to have cats but I have proven to myself I cant take care of cats
10:55 PM roycroft: https://khason.net/blog/2004/12/why-microsoft-can-blow-off-with-c.html
10:55 PM roycroft: ack
10:55 PM roycroft: that's not the link i just copied
10:56 PM roycroft: how did that get in my paste buffer?
10:56 PM xxcoder: Magicville, Nowhereland
10:56 PM * roycroft remembers that article, but hasn't visited it in eons
10:56 PM xxcoder: youre been doxxed
10:56 PM xxcoder: kidding
10:57 PM roycroft: https://tinyurl.com/4z349wcn
10:57 PM roycroft: there, try that
10:58 PM roycroft: https://tinyurl.com/57bf7hyn
10:58 PM roycroft: and that
10:58 PM roycroft: they are sisters
10:59 PM roycroft: they both checked me out and liked me
10:59 PM roycroft: the folks at the humane society said they were really shy, and were almost shocked that they checked me out - they had been hiding whenever anyone approached them
11:00 PM roycroft: but two kittens means when i don't have time to play with them they can play with each other
11:00 PM xxcoder: nice
