05:52 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, PR #112 mesact
06:59 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Morning
08:35 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, PR #113 mesact
08:36 AM rdtsc_: morning. xpra = rabbit hole (instead of ssh -Y), doesn't want to work
08:40 AM rdtsc_: guess I live with ssh -x and frequent disconnections as too much time is being wasted
09:14 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, thanks
09:44 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, gonna change the brake lines while you're at it?
09:45 AM Tom_L: especially the flex ones
09:47 AM JT-Shop: yes
09:48 AM Tom_L: hard lines too?
09:48 AM Tom_L: i noticed they have 'kits'
09:48 AM Tom_L: including fastener kits
09:48 AM JT-Shop: the hard lines from the caliper to the flex line
09:48 AM JT-Shop: https://www.cssbinc.com/1965-1982_rear_brake_caliper_bundle.aspx
09:48 AM JT-Shop: https://www.cssbinc.com/1967-82corvettelefttrailingarmbrakeliness.aspx
09:49 AM Tom_L: the rear is a single caliper?
09:49 AM Tom_L: no.. that's for the cv joint...
09:49 AM Tom_L: first glance i thought it was a rear end
09:53 AM JT-Shop: the brake line photo?
09:53 AM JT-Shop: that's looking from the inside out
09:53 AM Tom_L: yeah, i see it now
09:54 AM JT-Shop: now where is my laptop case?
09:56 AM Tom_L: do you have some of those brake line wrenches?
09:56 AM Tom_L: like an open end only not
09:56 AM Tom_L: 6 point
09:57 AM Tom_L: https://shop.snapon.com/product/Double-End-Flare-Nut,-mm/6-pc-6-Point-Metric-Flank-Drive-Double-End-Flare-Nut-Wrench-Set-(9%E2%80%9321-mm)/RXFMS606B
09:57 AM Tom_L: keep from stripping the head
09:58 AM Tom_L: at the time i just got the ones i would use
09:59 AM JT-Shop: yeah I have a set of flare nut wrenches from menards
09:59 AM JT-Shop: still trying to get the old ones off though
10:00 AM JT-Shop: they are proud of them
10:00 AM Tom_L: i know
10:00 AM Tom_L: they weren't quite as proud 40 yrs ago when i got em
10:05 AM Tom_L: you probably would have had trouble with the bleeders too if you hadn't gotten new calipers
10:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> yah - 6 point socket to get the bleeders loose.. (and maybe lightly tapping them before)
10:06 AM Tom_L: skunkworks, i'm sure you know about 'old' rust :)
10:07 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> log
10:07 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> backuplog
10:07 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> lol
10:07 AM Tom_L: i just restarted it this morning
10:08 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I had trouble getting started too
10:08 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> gettting motovated to put shit away after all the projects
10:09 AM rdtsc_: heat is your friend, along with a shot of penetrating oil
10:09 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> hey! there it is
10:10 AM Tom_L: it was still running but unresponsive
10:13 AM rdtsc_: something like this is good for flare nuts https://www.menards.com/main/tools/torches-soldering-tools/mag-torch-reg-micro-self-light-butane-torch/mt747c/p-1571380066330-c-8533.htm
10:14 AM JT-Shop: been soaking the fittings with break free... dunno if I want to start a fire in the 82
10:14 AM rdtsc_: replaced the hard lines on a 94 astro van once... almost qualified as a nightmare project due to ohio winters / salt
10:14 AM rdtsc_ is now known as rdtsc
11:01 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> skunkworks8841 the log does not work always from the Discord side
11:17 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I found 2 drives to run the 10ee spindle
11:23 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> red oxide treated fasteners
11:29 AM NetPipe: i got machine bluing all over my face j/k
11:29 AM NetPipe: indemidable ink
11:32 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> How? j/k
11:37 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-fsppDRBsc I really dislike videos like these. Stop whining and get resourceful. Make the parts if you have to.
11:48 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Lol.. I can't handle that guy
11:49 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> hmnm wtf my ad block isnt working '
11:49 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> unless that video is about logs
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR-REDevAzk
11:52 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> ren an stumpy is so wierd
11:53 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> if I had time I'd parody vids like this, toiler paper stuck to your show problems, spoon eye pains, shoes on wrong foot late to work again, etc
11:54 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> * shoe
11:55 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> what I'd like to see is resourceful rebuilds, better than new projects
11:56 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i hate most of those youtube jackoffs
11:56 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> but i like this guy
11:56 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOKskywuQDlnV8yIkv67Gfw
11:57 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i cant tell if hes ironic or just wierd
12:02 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> i has seen his vids before but I don't have the patience for 1 minute of info drawn out to 30 minutes
12:02 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I has, you has, we has
12:04 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> "5-Axis CNC Machine in a Small Room" what the hell does he even mean, is he building in his closet?
12:04 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> lol im not watching for any other reason than to see another messed up guy make small cnc machines from the best garbage he can
12:04 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> yeah
12:04 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> on the floor of the closet
12:04 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> bathroom CNC lathes
12:04 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> basically, most re4latable guy i could find
12:05 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> next week "pantry EDM's"
12:05 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> see, you should be his manager
12:05 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> that would sell
12:05 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> breakfestnook shaper
12:06 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> exactly
12:06 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> lol
12:07 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> guy files so much stuff. hes way more driven than i am at this point
12:07 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i wouldnt file even 10% of how much that guy files
12:07 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> if its between nothing or file everything, im finding a new hobby. i am spoiled nopw
12:08 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> "Top 5 bedside table VMC's"
12:09 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> this guy speaks to me, do you know how many bedside vmc's i have?
12:09 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> too many?
12:09 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> more than 1
12:09 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> yeah too many
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> make one, dont use it because why would i, make another one, dont use it
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> why would i use them, when i can just use the cnc i used to make them
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i think im stuck in a cycle
12:11 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> switching over from country farmer up before the chickens first shift hours to late night city slicker hours this weekend
12:11 PM Tom_L: fun
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> you are awake and asleep before i even get home from work
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> or like flying back from Europe
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> most days
12:13 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> gonna add a renishaw tp2 probe to one of my makeup stand milling machines today probably
12:15 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> yesterday a guy had a "Mitutoyo" 1um dial indicator from Amazon for ~$100
12:15 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> ha
12:15 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I asked him to check it against a known good one to be sure it's not a clone
12:16 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> did he compare his comparator?
12:16 PM Tom_L: cute probe but i don't need one that bad for my hobby cnc
12:16 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/EORwcPiepiRaADamQEjjkICY/1.jpg
12:17 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> we used a railroad tie as a lever to try and move a spindle, did not make the dial move so it is suspect
12:17 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> @Tom_L i dont need one peroid. i dont want to datum like a chump thought, i am spoiled
12:18 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> lol its just a regular dial indy, but glued in place
12:19 PM Unterhausen: I would watch a cakeslob channel
12:19 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i want to send that cnc freak some boards so he can make an unhinged video about it
12:19 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://www.amazon.com/Mitutoyo-513-405-10E-Accuracy-0-002-Yellow/dp/B079HGWCHH this one
12:19 PM Tom_L: i just got another 513
12:19 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> ha, my youtube channel is full of 6axis robots with dildos attatched
12:20 PM Tom_L: inch though
12:20 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> inch or metric, i use math so doesn't matter much to me
12:21 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> lol
12:21 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> yeah io got a 513-403 that i never use because i dont wanna break it
12:21 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> ready for that "job" someday
12:21 PM Tom_L: my kid had one stolen from work
12:22 PM Tom_L: i don't think he uses is alot since the machine probes everything
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> unterhausen https://www.youtube.com/@kevinlasanders2254 no dildos in the public videos thought
12:24 PM Unterhausen: I think you can have dildo robots in a public youtube
12:24 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> all the big machines I've been fixing lately have 1um absolute encoders on everything
12:24 PM Unterhausen: I used to use a mitutoyo that was .4 micron or something like that
12:25 PM xxcoder: including cnc doors? ;)
12:25 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they act like it
12:25 PM Unterhausen: I didn't have a great way to check it though, which is funny in a metrology lab
12:25 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> half the calls are door alarms
12:25 PM Tom_L: at least they're not disabled
12:25 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> but it just filthy chips everywhere
12:25 PM Unterhausen: they don't have the door switches bypassed, that's good
12:26 PM xxcoder: 😄
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> we carry bypass keys
12:26 PM xxcoder: yeh bypass is a must when setting up
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> why the fuck do you get door alarms, ? it either closes and the light goes oout or its open and it doesnt start
12:26 PM Tom_L: so only the 'qualified' can bypass em
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> "excuse me, im qualified to get hurt"
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> old wiring
12:27 PM Unterhausen: here's a video idea, cakeslob looks for treasures in my basement
12:27 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> oh, ok on the door so it meses up
12:27 PM xxcoder: in shop I used to work at, you are expected to do setups, and know not to break stuff
12:27 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> these are 15-20 year old Toyodas
12:27 PM xxcoder: there was no operators in that shop
12:27 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> mr basements basement
12:27 PM xxcoder: so all machines have bypass lock at every machine, but not always inserted
12:28 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they have operators that change tools and inserts plus run programs, the engineers do eveything else except fix machines....
12:29 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> and then repairs are broken up into warranty and out of warranty for who actually fixes it
12:29 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> factory warranty, dealer extra warranty and them me when it's out of warranty
12:29 PM Tom_L: i'd imagine most are out of warranty on a 20yr old machine
12:29 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> before you said "comparementalized" you really mean unionized
12:30 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> union is only the operators
12:30 PM xxcoder: sadly union didnt happen for me. no union
12:31 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> the engineers are all non-union, I am non-union, the factory warranty guys are all non union and the dealer repair crews are non-union
12:31 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I'm just a sub-contractor
12:31 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> ohhhh
12:31 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> so they hate you on the floor
12:32 PM Tom_L: probably not when their crap breaks and they're sitting
12:32 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> so it's like 5-6 different groups that touch machines
12:32 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they love me so far, since I actually talk to the operators and get to know them
12:33 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> the engineers don't like me since I know too much
12:33 PM Tom_L: my kid is the same way with the programmers at his place
12:33 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> and as long as I stay out of the way of the warranty guys they like me
12:34 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Tom_L: the operators don't mind when the machine is down, they have all been there for >10 years
12:34 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> we usually fix things while they change inserts
12:35 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> and running to the tool crib to rebuild 15 tools breaks up their monotony
12:38 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> that RBG has been acting up for weeks (posted pics of the pallets a few days ago) dealer guys are out since it's still under warranty....
12:39 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they call in the area electrician, he puts the powerline analyzer on
12:39 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> ohh yiou guys instakllked those gamer lights on your machines at work>
12:39 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> _pulses red to green when theres an error_
12:39 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> yeah
12:40 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> thats why my cnc machines needs
12:40 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> and some kinda clear fan and neon liquid cooling]
12:40 PM Tom_L: it's for the production manager so he can look out the window and see who's working
12:41 PM Tom_L: his first job, my kid said some would start the machine and turn the feed all the way down to keep the green lit
12:41 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> lmao ahh yeah
12:41 PM Tom_L: lazy bastards
12:41 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> the dealer swaps out one 24VDC supply with two new supplies, when he isolates the PLC to one supply it errors out after reset and stays bad vs intermittent
12:41 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> just do the offset 4in above the opart so it cutrs air
12:42 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I stand around for 6-7 hours in case they need anything
12:43 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> dealer is on the phone with fanuc for 3-4 hours debugging
12:46 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> i was told that they retrofit nothing
12:47 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> now older parts are EOL and their engineers were only able to find the last of some brushes for the power rails for the pallet mover
12:49 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> i can make replacements for just about any of the old parts like carriages overnight, but I just get confused stares since that doesn't compute with anyone yet
12:51 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> so they will scrap $3 million in machines (one work cell) when they give up trying vs have me make a few parts to keep them alive for a few more years
12:52 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> one guy vs 20 "engineers" so I must be wrong
12:52 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> tell them you will also dispose of it for them
12:53 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> what if i dope my cnc with gamma rays?
12:53 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> that should give it more....ohm,s or something right?
12:55 PM rdtsc: I think it's the semiconductor manufactuers, whom make chips, then obsolete them 3-4 years later, which is driving the OEMs to release new products and discontinue the old. It's not that they won't support old, it's that they can't.
12:57 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> AB is like IBM
12:58 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they wouldn't even get me a data sheet for a nine year old servo
12:58 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> EOL and no longer supported, go away or buy a new model servo and this old servo was in a new machine, must have been New Old Stock
12:59 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> big_kevin420 IF it comes up do you want them all?
01:00 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> it's like 10K sq ft of floor space per cell
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> 4 horizontal mills and all the rails and robo-pallets
01:03 PM Tom_L: sounds about like the makinos my kid runs
01:03 PM Tom_L: 20 pallet changer 4 cnc per cell
01:03 PM Tom_L: pallets are like 6' wide, 10 long or such
01:06 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/cincinnati/Pallets.mp4
01:06 PM Tom_L: one he took on his phone
01:10 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> yeah similar
01:12 PM Tom_L: hydraulics lay em down flat to load the parts then they're either sent home or to a cnc
01:12 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I was sitting on the tombstone the other day, you could sleep 8-10 people inside the work area in each CNC
01:13 PM Tom_L: you can walk in these but it's narrow
01:14 PM Tom_L: https://www.ctemag.com/sites/default/files/styles/product_image/public/product_images/MAG3-EX_2017.jpg?itok=0Tw-QVja
01:14 PM Tom_L: part loading platform
01:15 PM Tom_L: and the pallet turntable behind it
01:16 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> only 9 years old....
01:16 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i have underwear older than that
01:16 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> you can park two buses in the pallet changer
01:16 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_wUjIuWY8k
01:16 PM Tom_L: decent overview
01:16 PM Tom_L: not too annoying
01:16 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> big_kevin420 on? 🙂
01:17 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i want to see him do a review on a small machine
01:17 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> uhh no comment
01:17 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> haha
01:17 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> 'LOOK HOW SMALL THIS CUT IS!" "LETS SEE IF WE CAN LOWER THE SPEED EVEN MORE"
01:18 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> medium machine ^^
01:22 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> i need your help nce again (again again 😉
01:22 PM lcnc-relay: i try yo configure the homing on Z axis; the end switch is triggered; I can see it in halshow but the motor continue until i hit the emergency stop
01:22 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> i wonder if one of the reasons NIST stopped LCNC development is that it gave 5+ axis control to regimes that we don't get along with
01:22 PM Tom_L: vibram, is the switch reversed logic?
01:23 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> yes
01:23 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> i take the -not output
01:23 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> https://github.com/paulsvc2/lathe
01:23 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> here is my setup
01:23 PM Tom_L: i mean is it correct for what you're doing
01:23 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> vibram: something in you HAL isn't fully connected yet
01:23 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> or yeah polarity issue
01:23 PM Tom_L: on home you +z but once homed do you -z a short distance to back off the switch?
01:24 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> for me, this is correct t have it to 1 (yellow) when not triggered
01:24 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> i thought the net home-z was enough
01:25 PM Tom_L: HOME = 0.000
01:25 PM Tom_L: HOME_OFFSET = 0.10
01:25 PM Tom_L: HOME_SEARCH_VEL = 1.50
01:25 PM Tom_L: HOME_LATCH_VEL = -0.20
01:25 PM Tom_L: HOME_USE_INDEX = NO
01:25 PM Tom_L: HOME_IGNORE_LIMITS = YES
01:26 PM Tom_L: HOME_SEQUENCE = 0
01:26 PM Tom_L: that's my z ini for home
01:26 PM Tom_L: latch is negative to search
01:26 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/configs/NEW_MILL/new_mill.ini
01:26 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> offset should not be negative?
01:27 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> if i want the axis to move backward?
01:27 PM Tom_L: i suppose it could depend on your setup
01:27 PM Tom_L: home_latch_velocity move it off the switch in the opposite direction
01:27 PM Tom_L: -.020
01:28 PM Tom_L: home_search_vel 1.5 moves it in the positive direction
01:29 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/config/ini-homing.html
01:30 PM Tom_L: i use a single switch for home and limits
01:30 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> hum something must be wrong in my hal file
01:30 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> because the ini was very close from what you gave me
01:30 PM Tom_L: i run mine thru the debounce comp too
01:31 PM Tom_L: net in-home-z <= hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.gpio.043.in
01:31 PM Tom_L: net in-home-z => debounce.0.3.in
01:31 PM Tom_L: net out-home-z <= debounce.0.3.out
01:31 PM Tom_L: net out-home-z => joint.2.home-sw-in
01:31 PM Tom_L: net out-home-z => joint.2.pos-lim-sw-in
01:31 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> i only have a limit switch on z+
01:31 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/configs/NEW_MILL/new_mill.hal
01:31 PM Tom_L: so do i
01:31 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> maybe it starts from z-?
01:31 PM Tom_L: i wired a -z but i don't think i use it
01:31 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> wouldnt be logical for a lathe but why not
01:32 PM Tom_L: you would home to +z away from the spindle
01:32 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> exactly
01:32 PM Tom_L: then latch is a short -z to back off the switch
01:33 PM Tom_L: HOME_OFFSET = 0.10
01:33 PM Tom_L: doesn't need to be that much
01:33 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> i think my hal is wrong
01:33 PM Tom_L: just so the switch resets
01:33 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> you use the joint i saw
01:34 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> i will try to copy you
01:34 PM Tom_L: that's a mill config but it doesn't matter
01:40 PM rdtsc: this helped me: https://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/config/ini-homing.html
01:41 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> its working thank you
01:42 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> i used an old piece of hal from the forum but totally outdated i think
01:42 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> thanks a lot
01:43 PM rdtsc: I also discovered that the example files on the linuxcnc github were quite a bit different than what I was attempting. Perhaps worth a look: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/master/configs/attic/demo_mazak/demo_mazak.ini
01:43 PM rdtsc: look around for something resembling your setup
01:44 PM rdtsc: er.go., linuxcnc is always changing and a 4-year-old forum post can steer one in the completely wrong direction
01:53 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Indeed
01:53 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hum not before fine homing, I get the joint 1 limit switch error
02:08 PM rdtsc: is flex doc search usable? https://www.gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/search.html?q=size+normal
02:27 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> it's all in Beta as far as I know, the source is still drying
02:27 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> rdtsc ^^
02:47 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Rdtsc, I don't think so
02:48 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> I think the search is for a python program
02:56 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> hit limit in home state 14
02:56 PM lcnc-relay: Any idea about this error? I can't even find in on Google
02:56 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> This is when I try to home, once the switch is triggered
03:01 PM Tom_L: did you back off the switch?
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Probably have to grep the source for that error
03:17 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> What do you mean?
03:18 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> HOME_OFFSET = -50.0
03:18 PM lcnc-relay: HOME_SEARCH_VEL = 2.0
03:18 PM lcnc-relay: HOME_LATCH_VEL = -2.00000
03:18 PM lcnc-relay: HOME_FINAL_VEL = 0.500000
03:18 PM lcnc-relay: HOME_IGNORE_LIMIT = YES
03:19 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Home latch should be 10% of seek
03:21 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> What is the seek?
03:22 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Search
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hum OK
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I will put less then
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> -0.2
03:23 PM rdtsc: which axis is this for?
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I will test tomorrow, this is night here
03:24 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Z axis on lathe
03:24 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> JT heads for the Depot wine is finished here at the Terrace
03:25 PM rdtsc: just making sure +/-Z directions (and offset direction) is not being mixed up, easy to get it wrong
03:26 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Yup
03:27 PM bjorkintosh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC6IgRpptJk
03:28 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> ive been actively not clicking that for a while now, i think youtube autoplayed it for me this morning
03:28 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Same here
03:28 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> I never look at suggested videos
03:29 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> it looks like a tabloid shelf of videos on mine,
03:29 PM bjorkintosh: well. the conclusion is that it CAN work.
03:31 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> its too subjective, you can make anything work , but it depends on skill money and usecase
03:31 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Direction seems to be OK
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Basically I soon as I hit the limit switch I have the joint errorn
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> It doesn't even comeback
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/KoFQGhGkhfAczoniCJzEIMxu/17245263489609131521491842960901.jpg
03:55 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> big_kevin420 oh get a load of Mr Moneybags and Father Time 🙂
04:17 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i feel so useless... i got zero priority tasks done, and just played around with stupid task all day... 😦
04:17 PM lcnc-relay: i really need to get my priorities done...
04:18 PM xxcoder: capt and a timelord for space
04:18 PM xxcoder: I'd love to turn my closet into 50'x50' shop
04:19 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> that would be quite the renovation
04:20 PM xxcoder: yeah too bad we dont have inside is bigger tech
04:20 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> yeah
04:34 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Vibrant make sure the limit is connected to that axis
04:46 PM Tom_L: had a backyard seat to an airshow
04:48 PM xxcoder: new name for blondihacks. blondy axs
05:10 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
05:19 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc9TdnficlY we need a Carbon Fiber version of this
05:35 PM rdtsc: CAM: Computer-Aided Macrame? Neat.
05:40 PM xxcoder: lol isnt there spray on shirts already?
05:41 PM xxcoder: https://www.wired.com/2010/09/spray-on-fabric/
06:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Lol.. we have used 1.02TB over starlink this month
06:34 PM xxcoder: fun
07:18 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> skunkworks8841 since Aug 1st?
07:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> No. July 27th
07:34 PM rdtsc: Tom, just an observation, removing the menu from the rpi_mill_3 .ui results in an attribute missing error
07:34 PM rdtsc: from linuxcnc
08:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/UyTzxreHIazSMdEHQMDbTCdq/PXL_20240824_011231793.jpg
08:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> a really nice area up there.. suprisingly flatish.. Dad probably really thought about putting the house up there.. just the driveway would have been epic..
08:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> a rather large area
08:08 PM xxcoder: just make it auto park ;)
08:08 PM xxcoder: something like car wash
08:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> dad had mentioned a horizontal and vertical tunnel..
08:09 PM xxcoder: get in right spot, shift to netural and turn off engine lol
08:14 PM xxcoder: time to scan ground
09:15 PM Tom_L: rdtsc, you need a menu as a minimum otherwise how do you quit?
09:15 PM Tom_L: maximize one and see what you get
09:17 PM Tom_L: it tries to insert a 'recent' menu item which is automatic
09:43 PM rdtsc: quit_pb exits without a menu
09:44 PM Tom_L: on mine i got the error for recent if the menu wasn't present
09:45 PM Tom_L: it could have been that i deleted the menu instead of not having one from the beginning
09:48 PM _unreal_: so I'm cutting my first test part with the new cnc machine
09:48 PM _unreal_: I dont have a dust shoe I dont have much. I dont even have estop setup yet
09:48 PM _unreal_: that and I have the wrong motion controller in the control box right now.
09:48 PM _unreal_: the one I was going to do is F'ed for some reason? no idea
09:48 PM _unreal_: do=use
09:49 PM _unreal_: ordered a new one. In the mean time I'm using a GRBL stm32 controller
09:49 PM _unreal_: sucks because they are so simple they dont recognize a lot of the gcode :(
09:50 PM _unreal_: regardless I'm doing my skull and cross bones test. its a 50x50mm emboss thing
09:50 PM _unreal_: simple takes 20min but effective
