05:17 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Morning
06:09 AM Deejay: hi

09:31 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> big boy tool changer
09:34 AM * CloudEvil imagines vac-u-lok equivalent.
09:46 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> my CNC router needs that tool changer 😉
10:24 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> A $1k tool came loose and knocked another $10k down
10:34 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> oof
10:35 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> CaptainHindSight: How did you get a shop tour?
10:36 AM bjorkintosh: I bet he asked nicely.
10:38 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> captainhindsight_.: yeah, that can happen. I good friend used to have a big shop doing semi-conductor work. Had a giant horizontal, with probably 100k worth of tooling in it's changer chain system. cutting SS with ceramic cutters, dry. the noise was horrifying...
10:59 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> The K&T has a lot of dents on the z axis slide assembly from tools not changing correctly..

12:51 PM lcnc-relay: <c1nema> Hello everybody 🙂
12:51 PM lcnc-relay: Thanks for the warm welcome so far.
12:51 PM lcnc-relay: I'm currently in the middle of figuring out how my little CNC project should pan out. But i already got the core components up and running so i thought how about i share some pictures (keep in mind the whole setup and cabling mess is just for testing purposes, so dont roast me for it please 😇).
12:51 PM lcnc-relay: All powered by EtherCat
12:51 PM lcnc-relay: Slave 0: WAGO EtherCat Coupler (with 1x 2DO and 4x 8DO just for testing. Bought a ton of modules on eBay a while ago for a criminally cheap price)
12:51 PM lcnc-relay: Slave 1 - 4: Leadshine EL7-EC400S (400W servo drivers)
12:51 PM lcnc-relay: Motors are from Leadshine aswell (100W model for now with 23 bit encoders)
12:51 PM lcnc-relay: LinuxCNC is also already up and running with a bare bones configuration. Just enough to test everything 🙂
01:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> That is cool! I have not played with ethercat yet.
02:10 PM Getty0 is now known as Getty
02:10 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Yo
02:20 PM rdtsc-wk: oY
02:25 PM Tom_L: Yo Yo
02:25 PM Tom_L: yard done, shower time
02:26 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> already did shower time... took a lot out of me, energy-wise... now it's nap time 🙂
02:26 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Sitting at the dealership... oil change and transmission filter
02:26 PM Tom_L: which dealer?
02:27 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Chevy
02:27 PM Tom_L: honda or cheby
02:27 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> just finished my 27 mile ride. 1600 ft elevation gain
02:27 PM xxcoder: avocodo is doing well, stem is inch long now lol
02:27 PM Tom_L: i feel like i just went 27 mi
02:27 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Corvette service
02:28 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> getting ready for a mountain climb on Sat.
02:28 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> I did 15 had to wear a long sleeve shirt
02:28 PM Tom_L: it's 80 something here but gonna get back near 100 by the weekend so i figured i'd better get it done
02:29 PM Tom_L: i think there's an air show this weekend too
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> our local mountain, Mt. Diablo, is getting a lot of bike turnouts built. Sat is sort of a celebration of it all. up in the middle of the mountain.
02:29 PM Tom_L: blue angels etc
02:30 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> mid 70's right now. forecast low 80's today, but significant cooling rest of the week.
02:30 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Yeah heat returns Friday
02:30 PM Tom_L: https://www.frontiersinflight.com/
02:30 PM Tom_L: yup
02:30 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Cool
02:31 PM Tom_L: i kinda doubt we go
02:31 PM Tom_L: i've been to quite a few here
02:31 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> We are going to Eureka Springs next week
02:31 PM Tom_L: been there but it was quite a while back
02:32 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Wife's birthday 29th
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> your wife is only 29???
02:34 PM Tom_L: mine was the 12th
02:34 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> 😉
02:36 PM Tom_L: we went thru the 'haunted' hotel, carriage ride and walked around a bit
02:37 PM Tom_L: went by the Queen Anne mansion but didn't take the tour
02:37 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> We like the Crescent Hotel for pizza
02:38 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> And the tiger sanctuary
02:38 PM Tom_L: kids were young and stayed with a friend
02:38 PM Tom_L: we had to go back early since one of them split his head open and had to have a couple staples
02:39 PM Tom_L: probably around 5-6yr old
02:39 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Stay at a mom and pop motel overlooking the lake
02:39 PM Tom_L: we stayed at a b&b but i forget which one
02:39 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Ouch staples!
02:40 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> Point West is where we stay
02:40 PM Tom_L: we'd just settled in for the evening and got the call so drove back half the night
02:42 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> 5 hours for us
02:42 PM Tom_L: something like that yeah
02:43 PM Tom_L: google says right at 5
02:47 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> skunkworks8841 I'm fixing this old stuff for them
02:47 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Neat!
02:50 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I think they are moving lots of production to Mexico
02:51 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> So it's just patching things and keeping it running
04:10 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/qscUvnhcWZqIPcciudJnZnzP/20240821_160308_5596350664247179639.jpg
04:10 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> This is much better
04:22 PM Contract_Pilot: Hello, everyone.
04:23 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> hello!
05:23 PM _unreal_: Random question, is anyone looking for motors? steppers, brushed servos, or brushless BLDC's? I'm going though what I have
05:24 PM _unreal_: I've got at least 50 BLDC's some with built in breaks, some with built in encoders, lots of large steppers most are 200oz/in or less and lots of other nema 23 +/- range goodies
05:25 PM bjorkintosh: _unreal_: are you hosting them on ebay?
05:26 PM _unreal_: the BLDC's are 100% compatible with the ODRIVE controllers just add an external encoder
05:26 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they have something like $5-10 million in tolling in stock in the tool crib. An hour after the crash they had replaced every tool.
05:26 PM _unreal_: not currently
05:26 PM _unreal_: I'm in florida
05:26 PM _unreal_: bjorkintosh, what are you looking for?
05:27 PM bjorkintosh: nothing. just curious. wanted to see pix and what not.
05:27 PM bjorkintosh: don't need anything at all.
05:27 PM _unreal_: ya... likely 200 ish motors
05:28 PM bjorkintosh: goodness. that is quite a lot
05:28 PM _unreal_: I've gotten them out of marine satellites
05:28 PM bjorkintosh: oh I see.
05:28 PM _unreal_: new they are like $300-600 each
05:28 PM _unreal_: I've even got some stainless steppers LOL
05:32 PM _unreal_: If I wasnt in such a bind with "life" right now I'd be investing in a few of these https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806359105869.html?src=google&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=708-803-3821&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&gclsrc=aw.ds&albagn=888888&ds_e_adid=&ds_e_matchtype=&ds_e_device=c&ds_e_network=x&ds_e_product_group_id=&ds_e_product_id=en3256806359105869&ds_e_product_merchant_id=746319283&ds_e_product_country=US

05:32 PM _unreal_: !@#$!@#$ hate it when they do that
05:33 PM _unreal_: https://tinyurl.com/57225727
05:33 PM _unreal_: bjorkintosh, take a look at that. its a "nock off" odrive but then again ODRIVE published there code
05:33 PM _unreal_: I'd love to get 2 of those for besting
05:35 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, where is that?
05:38 PM Tom_L: captain, do they have a guy that sets up the tooling or does each operator do their own?
05:39 PM Tom_L: last couple places my kid was at, they had/have a guy that presets all the tooling
05:40 PM Tom_L: those old machines probably don't use shrink fit tooling though do they?
05:40 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> @Tom_L tool crib assembles the tools, the operator pops them in the machines
05:40 PM Tom_L: same process then
05:40 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Engineers program everything and show up for crashed and stalls to save the parts
05:41 PM Tom_L: what do they use? mastercam?
05:41 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> The tooling avalanche ended up being on the end of the program
05:42 PM Tom_L: figures
05:42 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Haven't asked the engineers yet
05:42 PM Tom_L: those castings probably aren't cheap either
05:43 PM Tom_L: would be interesting to see what different industries are using
05:44 PM Tom_L: my bud had an okuma with a 119 tool toolbelt
05:44 PM Tom_L: in a locked cage
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> They have about 250 big machines there
05:46 PM Tom_L: what industry are those parts for?
05:46 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Not sure how many football fields it holds
05:46 PM Tom_L: heh
05:47 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> They make tractors, and heavy construction equipment
05:47 PM Tom_L: my other boy's factory is a mile long
05:47 PM Tom_L: he works in the engineering test area
05:47 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> It looks like organized chaos
05:47 PM Tom_L: i bet
05:48 PM Tom_L: does one machine finish a part or just certain ops and pass to the next one?
05:49 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Combo of both
05:49 PM Tom_L: my kid's last job the gantries did alot of roughing and passed on the the starrags on some parts
05:50 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/MdSHlptxpIXosSOWIiqNZDlD/IMG_20240820_130849.jpg
05:50 PM Tom_L: the gantries had 3 heads so they could knock out alot of stuff
05:50 PM Tom_L: saw that
05:50 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Wor cells everywhere
05:50 PM Tom_L: are those pallet changers?
05:50 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Yup
05:50 PM Tom_L: yeah my kid runs a 4 machine cell with 20 pallets
05:51 PM Tom_L: only his are vertically homed
05:51 PM Tom_L: he loads the pallets laying down then they're either sent home or to a scheduled machine
05:51 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Work cells are 5 giant Toyoda with pallets shared
05:51 PM Tom_L: right
05:52 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I see about 5-10 different parts per work cell
05:53 PM Tom_L: i bet it's noisy
05:53 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Those castings on the other pic
05:53 PM Tom_L: kid's place is always a high pitch whine when he calls from there
05:53 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Always some machine squealing
05:53 PM Tom_L: mostly aluminum
05:53 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Same
05:53 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> All steel here
05:53 PM Tom_L: yeah i figured that
05:54 PM Tom_L: do they do the castings in house?
05:54 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Yes but different location
05:54 PM Tom_L: right, they would have to keep that separate
05:55 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Supposed to wear ear plugs but then I can't hear anyone
05:56 PM Tom_L: i've never seen a toyoda but i hear they're pretty tough machines
05:56 PM Tom_L: get some plugs with the hole in em and like 80% is blocked
05:56 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> These are around 20 years old and best to shit
05:57 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Best/beat
05:57 PM Tom_L: i'm sure
05:57 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Leak like crazy
05:57 PM Tom_L: steel is harder on machines and i'm sure they keep the spindles turning
05:57 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Fault multiple times a day
05:57 PM Tom_L: no high speed spindles probably
05:57 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Filthy
05:58 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Not so far
05:58 PM Tom_L: the makinos run up to 33k rpm
05:58 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Makes fanuc look like an iPhone
05:59 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> World's worst guis
05:59 PM Tom_L: what control?
05:59 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Fanuc, but custom
05:59 PM Tom_L: yeah
06:00 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> They found the guy who could do worse
06:00 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> But he's dead
06:00 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> So we are safe
06:01 PM Tom_L: the last place my kid worked had spare controls from old cincinnatis
06:01 PM Tom_L: those machines were pretty old too
06:02 PM Tom_L: siemens iirc
06:02 PM Tom_L: they were chaning the bed rails on one of em
06:03 PM Tom_L: had the gantries off to the side
06:06 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/cincinnati/Wall.jpg
06:07 PM Tom_L: i think that may have had some influence on him switching jobs
06:07 PM Tom_L: he was using the broom when that happened
06:08 PM Tom_L: some noob decided to move the gantry while he was clearing chips into the dumpster that did that
06:08 PM Tom_L: had no business even being near it
06:20 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Tom_L : this place hasn't had an accident in a year and a half
06:21 PM Tom_L: that's good
08:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> lol - they stopped being able to ftp files to one of our web sites.. (external hosted - shared server)
08:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I tried and yes - says something about not enough space.
08:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I start a ticket after that and they came back and said - might be permissions issue.. I take a look at the 'server information' and it shows disk / 99%
08:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> full
08:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> it ain't got no gas in it..
09:20 PM rdtsc_: Definitely full
09:20 PM rdtsc_ is now known as rdtsc
