03:25 AM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
04:29 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:03 AM Tom_L: morning
06:22 AM lcnc-relay: <die_limonade> Hello. I have a question. Is it possible to use a step/dir interface for the spindle with remora?
06:24 AM JT-Cave: what is remora?
07:55 AM lcnc-relay: <die_limonade> https://github.com/scottalford75/Remora
08:33 AM Tom_L: https://remora-docs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/firmware/Setup-Config-File.html#stepgen
08:34 AM Tom_L: "Step Pin":, "Direction Pin":, "Enable Pin":
08:35 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, any luck with the phone?
08:53 AM jfsimon1981 is now known as jfsimon
09:06 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, successful run of the rpi ui on the mill
09:26 AM lcnc-relay: <die_limonade> The problem is see, is that you can only assign a joint to the stepgen not a spindle
09:27 AM Tom_L: pwmgen
09:27 AM Tom_L: for spindle
09:27 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, PR #46
09:30 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, phone recovered and it's pretty beat up but still works somewhat
09:30 AM Tom_L: that's good to hear
09:30 AM Tom_L: at least you got the sim etc for it
09:31 AM JT-Cave: die you can use a stepgen for anything you want
09:31 AM JT-Cave: yup
09:31 AM JT-Cave: now it's time to clean chicken crap
09:31 AM JT-Cave: oh and I've been working a bit on stylesheet examples for touch screens
09:31 AM Tom_L: rpi ui worked good on the new RTAI
09:31 AM JT-Cave: cool
09:31 AM Tom_L: i just pushed 10 of your commits
09:32 AM Tom_L: deb
09:32 AM JT-Cave: ok
09:33 AM Tom_L: haven't tried it on the D525 board yet
09:34 AM JT-Cave: take a look at the examples several widgets can be styled at once using a higher up widget
09:35 AM Tom_L: k
09:36 AM JT-Cave: makes the stylesheet easier to navigate with less entries to look at
09:36 AM Tom_L: any certain file?
09:37 AM Tom_L: getting enough there maybe move them to their own sub folders
09:47 AM JT-Cave: in the pyqt examples
09:47 AM Tom_L: i had a backup ui in examples i'm removing
09:48 AM Tom_L: #47
09:48 AM Tom_L: i was testing my examples and noticed an extra file
09:52 AM JT-Shop: ok
09:52 AM Tom_L: file list is ordered now :)
09:53 AM Tom_L: listwidget is a list of scrambled letters
09:54 AM JT-Shop: yup just generated some letters to fill the items with
09:55 AM Tom_L: spinbox you should allow more room for the .000 to show
09:55 AM Tom_L: buttons look better though
09:56 AM JT-Shop: it will expand I assume for more digits
09:57 AM JT-Shop: test it out
09:57 AM Tom_L: i did
09:57 AM Tom_L: that's why i said that
09:58 AM Tom_L: man, i just can't get goin today..
09:59 AM JT-Shop: hmm, that's odd
09:59 AM Tom_L: it would be trick if the folders in file selector could show up different but that may not be possible
09:59 AM JT-Shop: I would have to put the directories in a different list widget I "think"
10:00 AM JT-Shop: in any case blowing out the plasma pc seemed to fix it
10:00 AM Tom_L: good
10:00 AM Tom_L: got a paid project for it?
10:08 AM JT-Shop: need to make some braces for the cooker lift
10:17 AM Tom_L: ahh
10:21 AM Tom_L: mmm looks like bierocks are on the menu today. they certainly won't last long with 2 boys in the house
10:26 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> bierocks ??
10:33 AM JT-Shop: min-width: 90px;
10:40 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: how are the gears on your bike working out?
10:43 AM JT-Shop: the first cassette was a 11-32 with a 34 and that sucked because there was too much change the second 11-34 is good and had even change from gear to gear and 34 is perfect for the hills
10:43 AM JT-Shop: for me
10:45 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> sounds fine. get out and ride......
10:45 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> hey, does flex have probing in it?
10:47 AM Tom_L: not yet
10:48 AM Tom_L: unless you called a hal_pin or mdi command
10:48 AM Tom_L: via subroutine
10:49 AM Tom_L: so it might be possible
10:50 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> after a brain fade a few weeks ago, I asked Morley to add a spindle inhibit when the probe tool is used, in Qtdragon. He's slowly implementing it....
10:51 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Well, if and/or when probing is added. the spindle inhibit is a good idea.
10:51 AM JT-Shop: using Chris Radek probe routines with a mdi yes
10:51 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/cradek/
10:52 AM JT-Shop: those are the most solid probe routines I've seen
10:52 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> yeah, I know those
10:52 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> cradek's stuff is very good.
10:53 AM * JT-Shop assumes there are very few probes in use with emc
10:55 AM JT-Shop: I have one but it's not repeatable so I've never had a reason to use it
10:56 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I have a couple of good probes. really like using them. used to use 'probe screen' by verser in axis. unfortunately it's outdated by the python and other updates.
10:57 AM JT-Shop: used commercial probes?
10:57 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> yeah
10:58 AM JT-Shop: I almost never have a reason to use a probe
10:58 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> all depends upon what one is doing, and how.
10:58 AM JT-Shop: if I did a lot of rework where I needed to find the center of a hole it would be a different story
10:59 AM JT-Shop: but Y0 is known and a dowel in the spindle sets X-0.250 in a secont
10:59 AM JT-Shop: second
10:59 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> i've had to do some work like that. and do boing...
10:59 AM JT-Shop: and a dowel for Z takes a few seconds
10:59 AM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> I use probing all the time. Usually for 2nd ops where I can pick up on a feature from the first op. Saves a ton of time making fixtures.
10:59 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> boring.
11:00 AM JT-Shop: zinc for that yes but never have to do that in the parts I make
11:00 AM JT-Shop: I have drilled and reamed a hole then used that hole with a dowel in the spindle to move a long part
11:01 AM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> I have probing built into the CAM post so it is trivial to use. I use it for first op and stock centering as well but that is just because I can 🙂
11:02 AM JT-Shop: I might have done that 4 times when making cannon sides :)
11:03 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: like I said, all depends on what and how one is doing.... I've had to do some very fine, accurate machining and needed to get locations really, really close.
11:03 AM JT-Shop: I can set stock very very accurate using my methods
11:03 AM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> Probing will get you better alignment than most fixatures. Easily +/- 5um.
11:04 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> anyway, something like ncggui would work. then one could add whatever one wants.
11:04 AM JT-Shop: yup
11:06 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Morley and the other author, Jim, have added that to qtdragon. works pretty nice. ya may check it out just to see
11:06 AM JT-Shop: added what?
11:06 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ncggui
11:06 AM JT-Shop: interesting
11:08 AM Tom_L: i added the dowel offset as a button in my rpi_mill demo
11:09 AM Tom_L: + or - depending on if it's a vise or workpiece RR corner
11:09 AM Tom_L: which is where i always set it from
11:09 AM JT-Shop: what does the button do?
11:11 AM Tom_L: moves .1" in both axis
11:11 AM Tom_L: either - or + depending on the button
11:11 AM JT-Shop: ah then you set zero after moving?
11:11 AM Tom_L: i may have added code to set it too i forget
11:11 AM Tom_L: it's in the examples
11:12 AM Tom_L: so move x y and set zero for the wobbler
11:12 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/Touchoff-MDI.png
11:12 AM Tom_L: the yellow buttons
11:13 AM JT-Shop: I only use the edge finder on y when y0 is off
11:13 AM JT-Shop: which only happens when I reinstall emc
11:14 AM JT-Shop: I was able to make my phone ring from this pc lol
11:14 AM Tom_L: that's the good thing about flex. you can flex
11:14 AM Tom_L: i could send you a txt from my pc
11:15 AM JT-Shop: yup and the mix room control panel will do that from the HMI if a problem happens
11:15 AM JT-Shop: IIRC there's a limit to the length of the text you can send from a network device
11:16 AM Tom_L: for the old txt format
11:16 AM Tom_L: something like 160 characters
11:16 AM Tom_L: i forget
11:16 AM JT-Shop: https://pasteboard.co/ZIwGwcESiKRQ.png
11:17 AM JT-Shop: there's a new text format?
11:17 AM Tom_L: i don't know what it's called but you can attach photos, voice etc and probably send a short story if you wanted
11:17 AM JT-Shop: shows my phone is in the machine shop on my desk
11:18 AM Tom_L: yeah mine shows up in the middle of the house here
11:18 AM JT-Shop: the big shop is not accurate in size
11:18 AM Tom_L: and it will track where you've been on maps
11:18 AM Tom_L: if you have that on
11:18 AM Tom_L: i think the 10 did that
11:19 AM JT-Shop: mine is/was a 10+
11:19 AM JT-Shop: nap time here
11:19 AM Tom_L: getting close for sure
11:21 AM Tom_L: yeah i signed in my google act and it shows up
11:22 AM Tom_L: i used that when she was traveling alone to help with maps & detours etc
11:22 AM Tom_L: so she didn't have to figure out the best route
11:34 AM JT-Cave: cool
11:34 AM JT-Cave: fixed the spinbox example
11:35 AM JT-Cave: so it's really nap time now... cut out the braces after the nap
11:50 AM SamPls: quick question if I may.. to be able to be able to run an M1xx with a bash script inside do i need to add anything into the INI [FILTER] section, like PROGRAM_EXTENSION = .sh Bash Script ??
11:51 AM Tom_L: never tried that
11:53 AM Tom_L: sounds like you would need to
11:54 AM Tom_L: an old post but might shed some light: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/38-general-linuxcnc-questions/44135-problem-using-filter-to-run-a-bash-script
11:58 AM Tom_L: how you map it to Mxxx is on you :)
11:58 AM Tom_L: maybe that last example even gives you that
12:00 PM Tom_L: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/38-general-linuxcnc-questions/28556-script-bash
12:00 PM Tom_L: another thread
01:02 PM Unterhaus__ is now known as Unterhausen
01:19 PM Tom_L: mmm bierocks... had to sample one before dinner
01:41 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> the NOAA forecast is sucking..... forecast 8 high today, but it's almost noon and it's only 66 outside...... not complaining. it's a nice cool.
01:45 PM bjorkint0sh: well. it's Joever.
01:46 PM xxcoder: wow lot cloud here today
01:48 PM SamPls: I had to look bierocks when you mntioned them earlier.. they look like would taste great.. might have to try them
02:11 PM Tom_L: let's just be honest... i sampled more than one
02:13 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> holley shit...........Old JOE is out.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!
02:25 PM bjorkint0sh: <roguish> yes. it's Joever.
02:27 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/temp/bierocks.jpg
02:28 PM JT-Shop: yum
02:28 PM bjorkint0sh: oh. I thought it was 'bier'
02:28 PM bjorkint0sh: that looks nothing like 'bier'.
02:32 PM Tom_L: she gets croissant dough and rolls it out cause it's easier. they don't last that long here
02:37 PM JT-Shop: I wondered if she used biscuit dough or something else
02:41 PM Tom_L: https://www.pillsbury.com/products/biscuits/grands-refrigerated-biscuits/homestyle-southern-style
02:42 PM Tom_L: she said it has to be those or they won't hold together right etc
02:42 PM JT-Shop: ah that's what I saw on a recipe when I looked it up
02:42 PM Tom_L: the buttery etc kind don't work as well
02:43 PM Tom_L: takes couple hrs to cook down the cabbage etc for the filling
02:43 PM Tom_L: 1.5-2
02:44 PM Tom_L: then butter the top in the oven so they brown
02:44 PM JT-Shop: yum
02:45 PM JT-Shop: thinking about ngcgui it did have some limitations and issues when I set it up on the CHNC
02:45 PM JT-Shop: and the interface is tkish
02:45 PM Tom_L: never did alot with those
02:45 PM Tom_L: may have ngcgui installed but don't use it
02:45 PM Tom_L: that's the extra tabs in axis right?
02:45 PM JT-Shop: I used it on the lathe as I could do most ops without doing any programming
02:46 PM JT-Shop: yup
02:48 PM Tom_L: do those just make calls to the .ngc files?
02:49 PM Tom_L: NGCGUI_SUBFILE = simp.ngc etc
02:49 PM JT-Shop: iirc ngcgui reads the ngc file
02:49 PM Tom_L: from the ini
02:49 PM JT-Shop: and then sets up the tab
02:49 PM Tom_L: i've never looked into those much but i think they're installed on the mill
02:51 PM Tom_L: looks kinda like the macros i write for my cad cam
02:52 PM Tom_L: sorta
02:52 PM JT-Shop: same but different?
02:52 PM Tom_L: yeah
02:52 PM Tom_L: similar logic
02:53 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Smartcam/THREADMILL.MCL
02:53 PM Tom_L: there's the one i did for the single point threads
02:54 PM JT-Shop: complicated :)
02:54 PM Tom_L: heh
02:56 PM Tom_L: you did one but i don't remember what you did it in
02:57 PM JT-Shop: mill touch
02:57 PM Tom_L: a thread generator
02:58 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Smartcam/sprocket1.mcl
02:58 PM Tom_L: one for sprockets
02:59 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Smartcam/arc_leadin_percent.jpg
02:59 PM Tom_L: thread macro tool path
02:59 PM Ribby: Hello, got a question, does linuxcnc work as a simulator?
03:00 PM Tom_L: it has sim examples yes
03:00 PM JT-Shop: yes, there are sample sims
03:00 PM Ribby: Is it like NCViewer?
03:00 PM Tom_L: no
03:00 PM JT-Shop: no clue what ncviewer is
03:00 PM Tom_L: a gcode viewer
03:01 PM Tom_L: graphic
03:01 PM JT-Shop: ah ok
03:01 PM Tom_L: we used to use nc-verify before throwing them to the metal
03:01 PM Tom_L: they'd color code boo boos etc
03:02 PM Tom_L: my cad cam has a preview you can slice etc and check features
03:02 PM Ribby: ncviewer isn't reading, but maybe it's because I have to set the edgefinded boundary offsets first (median of boundaries).
03:02 PM Tom_L: could be
03:03 PM Tom_L: ncviewer is the online one right?
03:03 PM lcnc-relay: <thorhian> Yes
03:03 PM Tom_L: https://ncviewer.com/
03:03 PM Tom_L: yeah
03:03 PM Ribby: I used virustotal.com malware scan on CAMotics, a offline cnc simulator. Some metric methods.
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <thorhian> You virus scanned camotics?
03:04 PM Ribby: Ok, the download page of linuxcnc does have a simulator.
03:06 PM Tom_L: not the same sim as you're looking for i think
03:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/DvrKsFIEPTDrBbeBQlthQxyX/PXL_20240721_193144529.MP.jpg
03:08 PM Tom_L: and you're not tied to a rope behind him???
03:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Lol.. no thank you
03:08 PM Tom_L: that would be faith
03:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I always wanted to try water skiing..
03:10 PM Tom_L: in my much younger days
03:11 PM Tom_L: slalom a few times but not on a regular basis
03:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I will probably to down hill...
03:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> *stick
03:15 PM Tom_L: has someone here tried camotics?
03:16 PM xxcoder: used it before, eh its odd but ok-ish?
03:16 PM Tom_L: wouldn't launch here so i dumpd it
03:16 PM xxcoder: it always loads gcode then plays backward when you click play unless you slide meter to start lol
03:17 PM Ribby: I haven't tried camotics yet.
03:17 PM Ribby: I couldn't install linuxcnc/linuxcnc-uspace by CLI command.
03:17 PM Tom_L: i doubt that's what you're looking for anyway
03:19 PM Ribby: Can linuxcnc-uspace work as simulator? Not sure if I can trust camotics just yet (virustotal.com malware results, but had also applied for fraud alert).
03:20 PM Tom_L: i've used the ncviewer site a time or two but currently don't have a local viewer
03:22 PM Ribby: It looks like linuxcnc is an OS, is this true?
03:22 PM Tom_L: no
03:22 PM Tom_L: the iso has a debian install with linuxcnc
03:22 PM Ribby: Okay, good to know.
03:23 PM Tom_L: 12
03:23 PM Tom_L: currently
03:24 PM Ribby: 3GBs!
03:25 PM Ribby: I will try to install the .iso by CLI command. Usually works for .deb files.
03:26 PM Tom_L: you run it from a CD or thumbdrive
03:26 PM Tom_L: it installs the debian 12 package along with linuxcnc 2.9.2 currently
03:26 PM Tom_L: maybe 2.9.3
03:30 PM Ribby: Maybe it's a little too much with the CD and drive? I know, I am complaining despite free software.
03:31 PM JT-Shop: https://www.rottenremains.com/wp-content/uploads/complaint-department.jpg
03:34 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> 1990 called and they want their 56k warning back 🙂 3GB is nothing these days.
03:34 PM Tom_L: camotics scanned ok here
03:35 PM xxcoder: where did you download your camotics anyway Ribby
03:35 PM Tom_L: yeah what's with kids these days....
03:35 PM Tom_L: https://camotics.org/
03:35 PM Tom_L: xxcoder,
03:35 PM xxcoder: tom yea question was to rib ;)
03:35 PM Tom_L: ok
03:35 PM Ribby: https://camotics.org/download.html#install
03:36 PM xxcoder: ok legit site
03:36 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> Anyone dealt with a Royal pneumatic collet closer? I have on my lathe and I can't get it off the spindle. Royal seems to have scrubbed the internet of any documentation on these.
03:37 PM bjorkint0sh: zincboy, nothing on archive?
03:37 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> Hmm, there is a good thought. Let me check.
03:38 PM Ribby: I got an error for camotics.
03:39 PM Tom_L: zincboy, you try yt for a howto also?
03:40 PM Tom_L: several there but dunnno what you have
03:41 PM Tom_L: in lieu of docs
03:44 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> Bridgeport Ez path SD with a 16C collet chuck. Not much out there on these.
03:57 PM xxcoder: lol https://youtu.be/sQ2vORfLZoA
03:57 PM xxcoder: burr is a big problem lol
03:58 PM xxcoder: maybe they should either mirror it, or use down cutting endmill
03:59 PM Tom_L: or just eat it
03:59 PM xxcoder: yeah want to look nice if its for professional cake presention or something though
03:59 PM xxcoder: I would sparkle chips on cake, and add candy endmill lol
03:59 PM xxcoder: nice cnc shop cake
04:01 PM xxcoder: I would cast regular 1" endmill in foodsafe silicone, clean it, then cast candy in uit
04:01 PM xxcoder: or make it candle by adding string holder and cast wax
04:02 PM JT-Shop: zink nothing on the wayback?
04:04 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> Found a pdf catalog for the 5C closer which is enough to tell me it should just be threaded on to the outboard end of the spindle. Nothing on the 16C collet closer. I suspect many years of coolant/rust sticking it together.
04:04 PM SamPls: I got camotics working.. had to install a few others with it.. all deb files
04:04 PM SamPls: camotics_1.2.0_amd64.deb libv8-3.14.5_3.14.5.8-5ubuntu2_amd64.deb
04:04 PM SamPls: libssl1.1_1.1.1f-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb
04:06 PM SamPls: im on bookworm
04:11 PM Ribby: I heard that invidious.io is the frontend for youtube viewing.
04:25 PM {HD}_ is now known as {HD}
04:28 PM Ribby: not found in my set repository list yet...
04:31 PM Ribby: downloading the .deb dependency installation files from the ubuntu repository.
04:31 PM Ribby: I thought the dependencies are debian based?
04:31 PM JT-Shop: ubuntu is based on debian
04:32 PM JT-Shop: lubuntu, kubuntu and timbucktubuntu are all based on debian
04:34 PM Ribby: Could we trust ubuntu enough in terms of computer security? I know this is a camotics question than linuxcnc question. No need to elaborate.
04:34 PM bjorkint0sh: Ribby: no.
04:35 PM bjorkint0sh: https://thehackernews.com/2024/07/new-openssh-vulnerability-could-lead-to.html
04:35 PM Ribby: That will suffice. Them SSH privileges.
04:36 PM bjorkint0sh: https://pentest-tools.com/blog/xz-utils-backdoor-cve-2024-3094
04:37 PM bjorkint0sh: linux is not immune to crap.
04:38 PM xxcoder: dont think anyone said that
04:38 PM JT-Shop: that xz thing was squashed before it got out
04:38 PM Ribby: XZ is a package tool, but might be rewritten to gain access with privileges.
04:39 PM Ribby: Articles state that beta versions of Debian would be affected.
04:40 PM JT-Shop: was...
04:40 PM JT-Shop: it's been reverted long ago
04:41 PM JT-Shop: it's a dead horse...
04:41 PM xxcoder: nothing is immune to undiscovered exploits being found, or bad update errors
04:41 PM xxcoder: like cloudstriker thing recently
04:41 PM xxcoder: now that was... wow
04:42 PM JT-Shop: that's why preppers wear tin foil caps... lol
04:44 PM Ribby: Maybe I will try camotics flathub build, if it ever comes.
04:46 PM bjorkint0sh: what I meant to say was, "we're not immune" as smug as I am that I've been pretty safe with my decision to use *nix all those many years ago.
04:47 PM JT-Shop: linux seems to be less of a target from aholes and deranged nuts
04:49 PM bjorkint0sh: yes. it's been glorious.
04:50 PM lcnc-relay: <thorhian> It’s a big target, but usually it’s directed at the big fish (all of the servers running it). The amount of people using it outside of a server context is small comparatively.
04:50 PM lcnc-relay: <thorhian> phones (android) are a big one too.
04:51 PM xxcoder: been using linux for years also. recently moved from LM to LMDE
04:51 PM xxcoder: I have liked ubuntu less and less so I decided to move away from ubuntu fork
04:52 PM JT-Shop: the last ubuntu I use is 10.04
04:52 PM JT-Shop: after that... it sucked
04:52 PM xxcoder: linux mint is still good, just wanted to get rid of even traces of it
04:52 PM xxcoder: *of ubuntu
04:54 PM JT-Shop: I use debian with mate as it seems to be the least annoying but it does have the annoying dimming of windows not in focus and that is really annoying if you're trying see things in two or more aps
04:54 PM bjorkint0sh: wat?? 10.04! damn. I'm on 24.04 at the moment. it's not been bad at all.
04:55 PM JT-Shop: when ubuntu decided to be more ipad like I stopped using it
04:55 PM xxcoder: last direct ubuntu I used, it was still brown, it chanegd to purple and unity and I installed xfce, used it for couple years then back to windows
04:55 PM xxcoder: then went to linux mint in 2016 something
04:55 PM xxcoder: and lmde last month
05:04 PM xxcoder: I still have one of last ubuntu free cd
05:04 PM xxcoder: its cool
05:05 PM JT-Shop: ubuntu is not free now?
05:06 PM xxcoder: they dont even make cds now, not saying that ubuntu is paid
05:06 PM JT-Shop: oh
05:07 PM bjorkint0sh: the pro version is sorta free. I wish OpenBSD were a little easier to use but it's not.

05:09 PM xxcoder: I have one of those. I used the sticker on laptop that I have long since gotten rid of
05:11 PM xxcoder: looked at mine. its 6.06 LTS
05:11 PM xxcoder: exactly same as image
05:15 PM JT-Shop: I have cd's I've burned back to at least 6.06
05:16 PM xxcoder: nice. I didnt have internet connection fast enough at home, in least not without waiting few hours lol
05:16 PM xxcoder: it was shitty comcast cable
05:16 PM JT-Shop: me neither and my wife used to complain about the phone being busy
05:18 PM xxcoder: anyway cd was really nice, installed ubuntu on laptop, used it for a while
05:18 PM xxcoder: kinda tempted to make vm of 6.06 lol
05:19 PM xxcoder: see the classic brown
05:37 PM JT-Shop: say goodnight Gracie
06:01 PM SamPls: Im on Debian I anly tried ubuntu once way back..
06:02 PM xxcoder: yeah, lmde is linux mint debian edition :)
06:04 PM xxcoder: its nice so far
06:05 PM xxcoder: only negative I got was lack of driver manager since its ubuntu thing. they would probably evenually port driver manager to lmde
06:05 PM xxcoder: it wont matter soon, as im getting new amd gpu
06:06 PM SamPls: its all i use.. stopped messing with pc with windows in about 2000
06:06 PM xxcoder: cool :)

06:21 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> Hey guys - has anyone tried to do PID tuning with a spindle in linuxcnc - I am running into a strange issue. I have my encoder set up and working correctly along with my mesa 7i96s analog output. However, any time I try any PID values - it always results in constant increase in RPM, the rate may change, but it never does a negative adjustment, which makes me think something is wrong software side - I cant find anything obviously...
06:21 PM lcnc-relay: ... wrong in the HAL or INI though..Does anyone have suggestions on what to look for?
06:26 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> like it almost makes me think its not properly utilizing the encoder values
06:26 PM lcnc-relay: <Otávio Ribeiro [he/him]> die_limonade: I've been using fpga's for that end... right now, I'm finishing porting Mesa code to a Mojo v3 board... it's already working... after, I'm planning to port it to spartan 7, but first, I will make my homemade CNC works with the mojo...
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> Ok I got PID working now for my spindle but I am getting another issue - the reduction is too slow - but it isnt really improving by increasing the integral term, it seems that the open loop command causes a 10% increase in RPM, but it takes too long to scale it back down. I was reading on linuxcnc and it seemed like decreasing the FF0 term would potentially alleviate that but I am not getting any improvements. It is taking like 15...
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: ... seconds to get to stabilize at the commanded rpm, always from the 10% overshoot
08:09 PM roycroft: one of the things i was happy about when i moved here was that i was no longer directly under the approach path to the eugene airport, and no longer had planes flying at low altitude directly over my house at all hours of the day and night
08:10 PM roycroft: it turns out, however, that lake odell, a bit east of here, is the preferred place for the firefighting planes and helicopters to get their water, and they've been flying at low altitude directly over my new house all day today
08:11 PM roycroft: there is not a fire really close to here, but there is obviously one to the west, and the ranger station just west of town has turned into a fire camp
08:15 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:59 PM roycroft: so today was a big day
08:59 PM roycroft: yesterday, when i went out to my new shop, i had to pull an extension cord from the house if i wanted lights or power there
09:00 PM roycroft: today, i can open the door, flip on a switch, and a light turns on
09:00 PM roycroft: and i can plug things into a receptacle and run power tools
09:00 PM roycroft: the temporary power setup is far from finished, but it's a big deal that i can flip the switch and light up the shop now (at least part of it)
09:01 PM * roycroft was planning on this day happening about 6 weeks ago, but better late than never
09:18 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> has anyone tried the new LCNC ISO? I asked on the forums and someone said it installed and older version of LCNC.
09:18 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> and/an
09:21 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc/53299-2-9-3-iso-issue#305781
09:27 PM SamPls: looks like debian hasnt added it to their repository
09:28 PM SamPls: was hoping
09:38 PM SamPls: and on their download page for LinuxCNC Packages .. the LinuxCNC Uspace 2.9.3. 64bit show linuxcnc-uspace_2.9.2_amd64.deb
09:55 PM Tom_L: captainhindsight, LinuxCNC 2.9.2 (2.9.3 due soon, install 2.9.2 then upgrade) is what the dl page says
09:55 PM Tom_L: for preempt-rt
09:56 PM Tom_L: i've not relied on it to be the most current
09:57 PM Tom_L: i got the 2.9.3 deb from buildbot2
09:59 PM Tom_L: 2.9.3.5 seems to be the latest there
10:40 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> eehhh Debian is a pain the .....
11:14 PM _unreal_: Started to setup the cnc control box for the new cnc machine
11:14 PM _unreal_: still need to move the cnc machine into the other room so I can finish it. (REACH THE OTHER SIDE OF IT)
11:14 PM _unreal_: sigh
11:16 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
