04:59 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Morning
05:12 AM lcnc-relay: <turboss> Good morning 🙂

08:23 AM rdtsc2: Hope the splice goes easily and you're up and running in no-time.
08:33 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> splices go really easy...
08:35 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypBunFtrOrE
08:37 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> from the house to the tower used the whole 464ft that was what was left on the roll
08:37 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> a bit farther than I thought it was..
08:38 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I thought it was around 300ft
08:39 AM rdtsc2: Any type of cable always ends up longer than expected... it's like 25% is tax
09:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> granted - I probaly have an extra 20ft on one end.. But still - that is close in my book
09:13 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> and maybe 3ft at every pull box.
09:29 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> dad just went in for a heart catheter procedure...
09:43 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> That is a pretty common procedure.. My dad had that after his heart attach. No issues.
09:43 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> attach?
09:43 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> would that be a heart transplant?
09:45 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> not a transplant, just clearing a blocked artery in his lower heart so it can pump better
10:11 AM JT-Shop: technology has improved a whole lot since my first angioplasti
10:12 AM JT-Shop: way back in 1993
10:33 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they don't use the shop hose to blow air through it?
11:07 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Travis Farmer it's a pretty common procedure today and he should be just fine
11:10 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i just got word he came out good... just waiting on the MD to tell my mom how it went 🙂
11:10 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> after reading about a million posts on medical discussion boards I've noticed that adult children often are far more concerned about their parents than their parents
11:10 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
11:10 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they are keeping an eye on him there
11:11 AM Unterhausen: my mother had something like that, her biggest complaint was itching, I think
12:04 PM Tom_L: weekend whistle is about to blow
12:04 PM JT-Shop: nap time first
12:04 PM Tom_L: groceries first
12:04 PM Tom_L: one trip done one to go
12:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> oops.. Falcon 9 second stage failed.. They might lose a batch of starlinks. (plus I think the faa is grounding them until they figure out what happened..
12:05 PM Tom_L: got the kid a nice roll around bottom box yesterday so he can lock his stuff up
12:05 PM Tom_L: we figured he lost ~1000 in tools at the last place
12:05 PM Tom_L: $
12:06 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> thieves!
12:06 PM JT-Shop: holy crap
12:06 PM Tom_L: $300 coaxial indicator for one
12:07 PM Tom_L: first time they used his battery impact they broke the batteries and the company got him replacements
12:07 PM Tom_L: 2nd time....
12:07 PM Tom_L: he takes those back and forth now
12:07 PM Tom_L: not the cheap ones either
12:08 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> the Milwaukee Makerspace doesn't lock anything up, they just have cameras everywhere, if something goes missing there is an announcement to return it, if it's not returned they investigate and deal with it
12:08 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> works for them
12:08 PM Tom_L: they have cameras everywhere there too
12:09 PM Tom_L: https://www.harborfreight.com/tool-storage-organization/u-s-general-tool-storage/42-in-x-22-in-roll-cab-series-3-blue-70368.html
12:09 PM Tom_L: those are actually pretty nice for HF
12:09 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> is anyone beaten with wet noodles after the investigation?
12:09 PM JT-Cave: https://pasteboard.co/jPeL2nPp1gPE.png
12:10 PM Tom_L: cool
12:10 PM JT-Cave: Tom_L, ignore the colors and lack of roundness but just getting the up/down buttons to be side by side and bigger
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I was at Menards the other day and examined the tool boxes on special in the main aisle, they were pretty flimsy
12:11 PM JT-Cave: https://pasteboard.co/LyTYjy9Tm2li.png
12:11 PM Tom_L: yeah we checked out a couple of the box stores and found the same thing
12:11 PM JT-Cave: Tom_L, I like the up/down arrows but need to work on the disabled/off arrows
12:11 PM Tom_L: kinda wondered what it was :)
12:12 PM Tom_L: change background color
12:12 PM JT-Cave: the disabled/off arrow?
12:12 PM Tom_L: yeah
12:12 PM Tom_L: 2nd row
12:12 PM JT-Cave: it's the same arrow with an X on it
12:12 PM Tom_L: oh
12:12 PM JT-Cave: but the X is too dark
12:12 PM Tom_L: looks like a fly
12:12 PM JT-Cave: and too thick lines
12:12 PM Tom_L: :)
12:12 PM JT-Cave: LOL
12:13 PM JT-Cave: interesting the up arrow must be on the right
12:13 PM Tom_L: hmm
12:13 PM JT-Cave: if not both count up
12:14 PM JT-Cave: anyway nap time here
12:14 PM Tom_L: about to leave again here
12:14 PM JT-Cave: https://paste.debian.net/1323066/
12:14 PM JT-Cave: the css
12:14 PM Tom_L: push it for safe keeping
12:17 PM Tom_L: it seems like alot but doesn't take many for those kinds of tools to add up to a grand
12:21 PM * rdtsc2 thinks there wouldn't be a stealing problem if "packages" were full of thermite with a 5-minute timer.
12:33 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> we will post the LinuxCNC controlled open source SLS printer designs here https://discord.gg/DHMhDGDE and https://openlunchbox.com/smf/index.php?board=30.0
12:34 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> this stuff is not rocket science
01:14 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i miss working on my machine... no A/C out there right now, and no room for a BFF. my dreams for a new shop died when i bought this crap car... as it needs lots of work (but less than my truck needed)
02:38 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> Hey - can someone help me - I am trying to figure out how to connect the 7i85s to my 7i96s as I want to add closed loop steppers and need the extra encoders. I am confused on the type of cable needed though, the descriptions in mesa are mixing me up - do I need like a rs-422 cable?? a DB25 to something else cable?? Is there a way to connect them without having to wait for the cable to come in
02:42 PM lcnc-relay: <blazini36> Looks like that's all just getting started?
02:44 PM lcnc-relay: <blazini36> Without looking at those specific cards you generally take ethernet cable and cut off an end depending on whether the card has an RJ45 or terminal block connector. Smart Serial is rs422 but there's nothing special about the cable
02:46 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> or maybe i actually need "DB25M-IDC26" cable?
02:46 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> I need to go from db25 to the expansion connector on the board
02:46 PM lcnc-relay: <andypugh#0> 2.9.3 Has been relased: http://www.linuxcnc.org/2024/07/12/LinuxCNC-2.9.3/
02:49 PM JT-Shop: ff https://mesaus.com/product/db25m-idc26/
02:49 PM JT-Shop: and yes you can make your own cable if you have the materials on hand
02:49 PM JT-Shop: andypugh_, thanks
02:50 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> now i really need to get out to my machine... so i can run updates...
02:51 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> if I try a diy solution, do I need to use all of the pins? Or can i just use what i need and connect it that way?
02:51 PM JT-Shop: you need to do it properly
02:54 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> i guess technically i can just use 25 breadboard wires and hook them up to the respective pins but I would need to find the pinout diagram of them
02:58 PM JT-Shop: pin 1 goes to pin 1 and so on
02:58 PM JT-Shop: btw closed loop steppers is not easy to do and has no benefit except to tell you you lost steps
02:59 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> but db25 is 25 pins and ribbon has 26 pins, so one gets lost or is wired together
02:59 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> yah i know
02:59 PM JT-Shop: you can't make a stepper go with more power to keep up like a servo can
02:59 PM JT-Shop: pin 26 is not connected
02:59 PM JT-Shop: bbl

03:00 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> ughhhh why didnt i buy the cable
03:00 PM xxcoder changed topic of #linuxcnc to: set LinuxCNC is a linux-based open-source CNC control. | Latest release: 2.9.3 | http://www.linuxcnc.org
03:00 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to -o by ChanServ
03:00 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> blazini36 started again after waiting , it's easy peasy
03:01 PM xxcoder: oops an error

03:02 PM xxcoder changed topic of #linuxcnc to: LinuxCNC is a linux-based open-source CNC control. | Latest release: 2.9.3 | http://www.linuxcnc.org

03:02 PM xxcoder: fix'd lol (irc topic)
03:02 PM xxcoder: anyway reading update, nice!
03:03 PM lcnc-relay: <blazini36> I haven't really been upto snuff on the SLS stuff, just saw it and clicked lol. "Easy peasy".....I assume there's already some stuff going that's not posted there?
03:09 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> i have to get around to posting things
03:10 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://openlunchbox.com/smf/ 10 years ago we considered a bunch of open projects but realized that most don't care about open as they do low cost
03:11 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> some projects died like the open laptop since AMD dropped support
03:20 PM lcnc-relay: <blazini36> Open is great, I'd consider it more important than low cost. The problem is alot of stuff is based on the thing that popped up yesterday and will be gone tomorrow
03:24 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> so I'm not too concerned about controller options, it's not that complicated
03:35 PM lcnc-relay: <blazini36> Oh that's a DB25 card, sorry when you said RS422 I thought it was a SS remote card. I can't keep track of Mesa stuff
03:36 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> no worries, i am terrible with the termonology
03:36 PM lcnc-relay: <ffffrf> terminology*
03:46 PM Loetmichel: *PFUAH* I HATE that levelA notebook. Went to work at 08:30 this morning. Boss: "this HP 17" NB has to be in its new full metal enclosure monday morning!" ... Logged out at the company at 22:16. 20 minutes ago. *grmbl*
04:10 PM JT-Cave: fff there's a write up on the wiki about one chaps adventure with steppers with encoder feedback it may be worth reading
04:14 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/2.9.3.png
04:15 PM Tom_L: yay
04:19 PM JT-Shop: did you download the deb or update from debian?
04:20 PM Tom_L: deb
04:20 PM Tom_L: from bb2
04:22 PM Tom_L: i'm assuming the 3 RTAI from the download page are still 2.9.2
04:22 PM JT-Shop: that's what I would assume
04:22 PM Tom_L: it really should be clarified in the filename somehow
04:23 PM JT-Shop: yup one file name is a mile long and repeats itself for some reason
04:24 PM Tom_L: on that pc i'm running 5.4.279 RTAI anyway
04:24 PM Tom_L: from capn's link
04:26 PM Tom_L: which as i understand will be the official release one when it is
04:27 PM JT-Shop: you got that from Andy?
04:27 PM Tom_L: no and i forget where i read it, maybe on the forum
04:27 PM Tom_L: but they were holding off for 2.9.3 from andy
04:30 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:30 PM Tom_dev: NTULINUX: If everything goes OK for the majority of LinuxCNC RTAI users with the 5.4.279 kernel, I'll finally mark a new RTAI stable release.
04:31 PM Tom_dev: forum
04:31 PM Tom_L: capn indicated here they were waiting for andy
04:34 PM Tom_L: 99F
04:34 PM Tom_L: 104 monday
04:35 PM JT-Shop: nothing that hot here
04:37 PM Tom_L: any sign of the new deer?
04:37 PM JT-Shop: I see a few fawns down by the feeder from time to time
04:38 PM Tom_L: your grocery bill will go up ..
04:39 PM JT-Shop: they still have their spots but the spots are starting to fade
04:39 PM JT-Shop: LOL
04:39 PM Tom_L: we've got a COOP nearly within walking distance that carries stuff like that
04:40 PM Tom_L: corn cobs, feed etc
04:41 PM Tom_L: i saw someone use a slinky on a bird feeder to keep the squirrels from climbing and getting it
04:41 PM JT-Shop: never seen that before
04:41 PM Tom_L: seems it would be quite effective
04:42 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QjhBKDzKcE
04:43 PM JT-Shop: that would not work here in the jungle
04:43 PM Tom_L: maybe not but i thought it was kinda funny
04:43 PM JT-Shop: it is funny to watch
04:44 PM JT-Shop: makes me wonder how they fill that feeder...
04:44 PM Tom_L: dunno
04:45 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeA6LbGJUgU
04:45 PM Tom_L: some are smarter than others
04:46 PM JT-Shop: yup
06:07 PM xxcoder: lolthat squarrel video
06:09 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/cJO8K2IILhs pretty cool. inheirance machining makes involuter gear cutters
06:09 PM xxcoder: very different from clickspring method
06:35 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Andy released 2.9.3
06:40 PM xxcoder: yep
06:45 PM Tom_L: and in other news.... it's HOT!
06:46 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> was 101.8, dropped to 99.3
06:47 PM Tom_L: i think we hit 100 or 101, but who's really counting?
06:47 PM Tom_L: 104 monday
06:47 PM xxcoder: 83f here not too bad, tomorrow hotter at 86
06:50 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> forecast 91 tomorrow
