04:42 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:43 AM BorgPipe: morning
05:19 AM onceloved: Is there no xyzac in the Probe Basic interface?
05:31 AM JT-Cave: only in flex

06:40 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:06 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> Hey yall, I changed the stepgen to be triggered by machine_on but it is not turning on, do I need to make a machine_on addf line for it?
08:34 AM JT-Cave: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/hal/basic-hal.html
08:34 AM JT-Cave: might want to read that...
08:34 AM pcw--home: "machine_on" is just an arbitrary signal name, not sure what stepconf uses for that function
08:36 AM JT-Cave: I don't see machine_on in a stepconf configuration
08:36 AM pcw--home: pncconf uses:
08:37 AM pcw--home: net machine-is-on halui.machine.is-on
08:37 AM JT-Cave: net xenable joint.0.amp-enable-out => stepgen.0.enable
08:37 AM pcw--home: that should be OK
08:37 AM JT-Cave: hot and muggy here today\
08:37 AM JT-Cave: that's what stepconf does ^^
08:38 AM pcw--home: net machine-is-enabled <= motion.motion-enabled
08:43 AM pcw--home: simonbasil: so adding "net xenable => stepgen.2.enable" should work
08:44 AM pcw--home: (and deleting the machine-on line)
08:55 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> Perfect I'll have a go at it later cheers again
08:55 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> Q
08:57 AM JT-Cave: you might want to post your ini and hal files to paste.debian.org and share the links
09:02 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> HAL: https://paste.debian.net/1321920/
09:02 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> INI: https://paste.debian.net/1321921/
09:03 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> this is without adding machine_on
09:06 AM JT-Cave: that works without adding a machine_on signal?
09:08 AM pcw--home: yes
09:09 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> yep only problem is m5 causing error on the servo when stopping from higher rpm
09:10 AM pcw--home: all you need is a signal that's true when them machine is enabled and there are no faults
09:10 AM pcw--home: joint.0.amp-enable-out works
09:11 AM pcw--home: net machine-is-enabled <= motion.motion-enabled
09:11 AM pcw--home: net x machine-is-enabled => stepgen.2.enable
09:12 AM pcw--home: would work as well and is a little prettier
10:12 AM Jym: Morning
10:13 AM Tom_L: hey
10:14 AM JT-Cave: pcw--home, I'm hooking up a Minas A4 to a 7i97T and the manual shows a 330Ω resistor across the +- for A B and Z, is this needed for the 7i97T?
10:14 AM JT-Cave: https://pasteboard.co/FOzgS8r3tK6a.png
10:15 AM pcw--home: no
10:16 AM pcw--home: "net x machine-is-enabled => stepgen.2.enable" should be "net machine-is-enabled => stepgen.2.enable"
10:16 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> https://paste.debian.net/1321923/ Updated hal
10:17 AM pcw--home: just remove the x
10:19 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> https://paste.debian.net/1321925/
10:19 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> wait not that made a mistake
10:19 AM JT-Shop: thanks
10:20 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> https://paste.debian.net/1321926/
10:21 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> is there a way to donate to the lcnc project?
10:21 AM pcw--home: that looks right
10:23 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> thanks
10:46 AM Tom_L: simonbasil, sure.. just help someone else
11:09 AM srk- is now known as srk
11:21 AM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
11:36 AM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/kRrhFudeJsWJJYCjILvMTrig/20240630_112943.jpg
11:36 AM JT-Shop: nap time
11:38 AM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> I am going to do a write up in a forum post for how I got this running. What section would you recommend posting it under and if I link it here on pastebin can yall give it a quick proofread.
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <simonbasil> Also just tested the new hal file, worked perfectly can't thank you all enough
12:18 PM rdtsc: @JT-Cave 330R terminating resistors: if a short run in electrically "clean" environment, should be fine without them. If a long run and/or noisy environment, they may be needed. easy enough to add if comm issues.
12:50 PM JT-Shop: rdtsc, thanks'
12:59 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: is that a fire extinguisher in the Vette ?? I once went for a ride in Vette with a big nitrous bottle in the back.....
01:00 PM Tom_L: for the engine or the passenger?
01:01 PM BorgPipe: whats the noise called when you forget to clamp part down before drill pressing it ?
01:02 PM BorgPipe: the unsecured clap ?
01:02 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> owned by a wealthy friend back in college. very rich farmer from the valley. eventually had his own jet and more, the got a 3 year vacation in fed pen.......for white collar crime......
01:02 PM Tom_L: woopsie
01:02 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> once out ran a CHP airplane following
01:03 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> but couldn't outrun Motorola
01:05 PM rdtsc: Last week saw a grey, unmarked helicopter hovering 10ft above massive power lines near a substation. They must have been inspecting stuff - I bet those guys have (well insulated) steel cahones.
01:06 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ya only touch one line at a time.....
01:06 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> and beware of the static charges
01:09 PM rdtsc: Dunno what those lines are rated at, but did see a big insulator near there flash over once during a heavy rain. I called them and told them, since that probably was a death-knell for that insulator.
01:13 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> could be lots of thousands of volts..... like at least 50000, maybe 2 or 3 times that.
01:14 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> if you're near towers with old, dirty insulators, you can hear a lot of crackling when it's misty or heavy fog....
01:15 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I have a tall transmission tower in my back yard........
01:20 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> https://youtu.be/O6gazgkYIQE
01:31 PM xxcoder: lol interesting display tech. also some machining https://youtu.be/inocuLhY5wY
02:19 PM Scopeuk: That thing is fun, the display looks familiar but I'm struggling to place it, maybe it used to be used on train time boards or something
02:20 PM xxcoder: dont know on display source but certainly fun
03:39 PM JT-Cave: roguish I finally found the manual for that drive, do you have a dc brushed motor as well?
03:42 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Cave: Yes, I have some brushed motors, but not sure if any have tachs. i'll check soon. definitely have some small ones with encoders....
03:43 PM JT-Cave: do they need tachs?
03:44 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I don't think the drive requires a tach, but a tach does provide speed feedback to the drive.
03:44 PM Loetmichel: Good source for small (60W) DC servos are old Laserprinters
03:45 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Cave: I have a few boxes full of motors and gear heads I was going to use, long ago....never got around to it
03:46 PM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=13519&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
03:46 PM Loetmichel: these for example
03:47 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Loetmichel: you're right. old printers had lots of good stuff in 'em.
03:48 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I have an old HP plotter that was fracking amazing. D size prints. the head would pull close to a full G accel.
03:48 PM JT-Shop: roguish I know how that goes...
03:48 PM JT-Shop: but my laser printers all work...
03:49 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> wish mine would work. an old 4MV, with a tabloid size extra paper drawer
03:50 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT, i'll look through what I have tomorrow and let you know. and can just pass 'em on to ya
03:51 PM JT-Shop: thanks
03:52 PM Loetmichel: Roguish: i had a dozen HP printers at the company that were going to the recycler. he wanted them to be free of plastics. OK. So i got about 40 Steppers, 20 DC Servo motors and another 40 3 phase AC disc motors from them before scrapping them ;)
03:52 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> a little dumpster diving......
03:53 PM Loetmichel: nah, the scrapper didnt want to deal with the plastic enclosures. So he basically only got the chassis and PCbs ;)
03:55 PM Loetmichel: still have a couple of the laser assemblys somewher ein the "future projects" bin to make an UV PCB exposer of some time
04:00 PM JT-Shop: well Leo is going sailing and Finn is back after a 6 month hiatus
04:00 PM * JT-Shop ponders what color to powder coat the FE mount
04:06 PM JT-Shop: found a bag of illusion red... that should be appropriate for a FE mount
04:24 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/iUjbMwjFcKltQqNjuAChhovC/20240630_161802.jpg
04:25 PM * JT-Shop waits for the parts to cool before applying powder
04:53 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/aJNCFBtyObyFJGUgDzLhZVRM/20240630_164646.jpg
04:53 PM Tom_L: gonna start peddling custom C8 parts now?
04:53 PM xxcoder: looks good
04:54 PM Tom_L: is your wood stove under the door when it's open?
04:57 PM JT-Shop: no, that's satin black powder
04:57 PM JT-Shop: and NO I'm not going to make custom C8 parts LOL
04:59 PM JT-Shop: hmm that powder requires a clear top coat... maybe... maybe not
05:01 PM Tom_L: gonna go see if the mill can break flex or vise versa
05:05 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:39 PM Tom_L: what would cause following errors sitting idle?
05:40 PM Tom_L: i'm still getting a few but i _was_ able to set up a part zero the work offset and tools and run it and everything went where it was supposed to
05:41 PM Tom_L: i am gonna rearrange the mill_3 a bit for convenience
05:41 PM JT-Shop: stepper or servo?
05:41 PM Tom_L: stepper
05:41 PM Tom_L: i backed off the accel already some
05:42 PM JT-Shop: that's what I did for bp is use it then changed things to match my work method
05:42 PM Tom_L: the other day
05:42 PM Tom_L: yeah you don't really know until you do it
05:42 PM JT-Shop: kinda odd I think to have fe while sitting still
05:42 PM JT-Shop: yup you go hmm this would be better here
05:43 PM Tom_L: but setting work offset & tools went as planned
05:44 PM JT-Shop: cool
05:44 PM Tom_L: had a few bugs in the program as i wrote it standing there
05:45 PM Tom_L: mostly i wanted to see a tool change and make sure they set correctly
05:45 PM Tom_L: both were spot on
05:45 PM JT-Shop: nice
05:46 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
05:46 PM Tom_L: shame it doesn't work with RTAI yet
05:46 PM JT-Shop: I can't even get rtai to work with a sim... I think there's a problem houston
05:47 PM Tom_L: funny, mine works ok. i think i even ran thru a part with axis on it
05:47 PM Tom_L: been a while..
05:47 PM Tom_L: on the D525 board
06:20 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, is it possible to have 2 labels show the same thing but on different tabs?
06:22 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away

07:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> one more (well - I guess 2) more to go
07:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> sucked another twine through the last run... Worked good
07:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> so I have a way to pull the fiber 400ft to the house.
07:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/UjdcDBLamBkUraYeMdBRTZvw/PXL_20240630_155242881_exported_0.jpg
07:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> that is the top of the hill at the tower..
08:05 PM Tom_L: boxes look like they worked out good
08:06 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> they worked out for a year or 2 - maybe more..
08:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> but they just fell apart
08:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> nothing fit anymore - like the panels shrunk
08:09 PM Tom_L: i mean the sprinkler valve boxes
08:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> oh - yes - I think that was the final solution - thank you!
08:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I need to come up with a water tight panal that I can mount all the network, tuner and stuff in...
08:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Going to put 2 posts in with a treated plywood to mount the panel to.

08:47 PM Tom_L: https://www.ebay.com/itm/364961980205
08:48 PM Tom_L: that might be perfect if it's big enough
08:49 PM Tom_L: looks like it has 2 water tight pass thrus
11:06 PM mrec: does anyone know about the Mitsubishi MDS-B-SVJ2 series? the question I have is, are there single phase versions available?
11:07 PM mrec: I have access to the 3 phase 2kw system but that's inconvenient for reverse engineering, I always need to drive to the factory
11:08 PM mrec: and once I'll start to send my own packets I will have to remove the motor from the system (seems like there's no other way to disengage the motor)
11:09 PM roycroft: get yourself a vfd and make your own 3-phase power
11:10 PM mrec: well I need to go through the Mitsubishi VFD, I don't see that a 220v VFD would be cheap for that
11:23 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> mrec: single phase input version Mitsubishi MDS-B-SVJ2 @2KW ??
