02:22 AM Deejay: moin
04:57 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:12 AM Tom_L: morning
07:23 AM JT-Cave: hot and light rain this morning
07:23 AM JT-Cave: yuck
08:12 AM JT-Cave: it's already 80°F outside
08:35 AM Tom_L: 80F here as well high 95
08:41 AM Tom_L: flex PR #31 up.
08:41 AM Tom_L: realized i hadn't built one in a while
09:21 AM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> pouring cows and horses, here...
09:24 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
09:30 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, thanks
09:34 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> 61 deg here
09:45 AM Tom_L: spindle pid tuning went well
09:45 AM Tom_L: quicker than expected
09:48 AM Tom_L: Pgain went from 2.20 to 1.95 and Igain from 4.5 to 1.2
09:49 AM Tom_L: works well from 100-5500rpm
09:49 AM Tom_L: didn't test below 100.. don't really have a use for it below that
09:50 AM Tom_L: usually run my wobbler around 300
09:53 AM Tom_L: JT-BP, moved any axis with flex yet?
09:54 AM Tom_L: i meant to test the spindle on it but i forgot while i was out there
10:19 AM JT-BP: yup
10:19 AM Tom_L: why was the pc rebooting on ya?
10:19 AM Tom_L: did you ever figure that out?
10:19 AM JT-Shop: it's laying on the table all apart lol
10:19 AM Tom_L: uh oh
10:19 AM JT-Shop: might be the power supply but it's not a std one the case is low profile
10:19 AM Tom_L: those itx cases i have are like that
10:26 AM JT-Shop: crap dyslexia strikes again and ruined that part
10:30 AM Tom_L: hopefully it didn't cost a cutter too
10:33 AM JT-Shop: no the 2.5" face mill can handle it :)
10:33 AM JT-Shop: I swapped y and z after the .
10:34 AM JT-Shop: fortunately I have a lot of 6061 stock... really too much stock
10:41 AM Tom_L: speaking of face mills, my kid came back from lunch to this the other day: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/cincinnati/2inch_insert_cutter.jpg
10:41 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/cincinnati/Ti_part.jpg
10:46 AM JT-Shop: not good
10:46 AM Tom_L: saved the part
10:46 AM Tom_L: nobody heard it while he was out
10:47 AM JT-Shop: no one watches it while he's at lunch?
10:47 AM Tom_L: supposedly but who knows what they were doing
10:48 AM Tom_L: nice big Ti part $$$
10:49 AM Tom_L: i think that's what those are: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/cincinnati/Cincinnati_6.jpg
11:13 AM JT-Shop: nap time here
11:19 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/TUMuwoABWKgAzHkxaVECdMtq/IMG_0794.jpg
11:19 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> lol this was hidden under a mountain of hot glue on this lathe.
11:26 AM CaptHindsight: every old machine I have touched had wiring issues
11:28 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> do you see that bare insulation under the red wire in the foreground
11:28 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> the red..wire which is hooked to 5v lol
11:28 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> i mean the black wire thats identifying as a red wire
11:28 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> lol
11:29 AM CaptHindsight: half the machines use the machine frame as neutrals for the lamps
11:29 AM CaptHindsight: 120VAC on the frame
11:29 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> this machine has had all sorts of oddities
11:30 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> it use to tingle if you leaned on the chassis of this lathe lol
11:34 AM CaptHindsight: they usually do
11:34 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> i dont like that
11:34 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> lol
11:37 AM CaptHindsight: on the other hand if you try to read explanations of neutral vs ground all you get are typical chatgpt or public school type answers of word salad
11:39 AM Tom_L: i prefer alphabet soup
11:43 AM CaptHindsight: why do the random letters always come up as curse words in German?
11:45 AM Tom_L: so is gfci tied to neutral or ground?
11:46 AM CaptHindsight: yes
11:46 AM Tom_L: :)
11:47 AM CaptHindsight: depends on which leakage current you want protection from
11:47 AM Tom_L: the kind that hurts when you touch it
12:06 PM pcw-home: I thought GFCIs measured the current difference between hot an neutral (so don't really need a ground connection)
12:07 PM pcw-home: The assumption being than any difference represents a path to ground
12:09 PM jpa-: sometimes they use it for the test button (though not always)
12:10 PM jpa-: but yeah, doesn't matter for the protection
12:10 PM pcw-home: That makes sense
12:16 PM CaptHindsight: the inspector should require anyone that installed it to hold onto the bare hot and jump into a swimming pool
12:16 PM CaptHindsight: are you really sure of your work?
12:18 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> i did not make enough coffee this morning
12:21 PM CaptHindsight: pretty sure you are allowed to make more coffee
12:22 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> ya but such an ordeal for another pot of coffee lol
12:24 PM CaptHindsight: try one of these, cup at a time devices https://aeropress.com/products/aeropress-coffee-maker
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> i use to have one of those years ago i remember it making pretty good coffee
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> had a metal screen so i didnt have to go through countless papers
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> ok i fixed that wiring issue over by the endstops. now im at the mesa 7i96
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> got each limit switch wired into an input
12:27 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> then i need some sort of bus bar plugged into pin 12 it looks like to join up all the other ends of these endstops and also bridge a wire over to 5v?
12:29 PM CaptHindsight: post a schematic for wiring help
12:29 PM CaptHindsight: please
12:29 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> no thank you lol
12:31 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> maybe if we're talking about rockets
12:42 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:59 PM xxcoder: lol guy, who makes weird clocks pretty often, is making dial indictor clock https://youtu.be/1uRE4NJlaKA
02:13 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, you about
02:17 PM Tom_L: about what?
02:18 PM Tom_L: about to nap? maybe...
02:18 PM JT-Shop: I thinking of dropping the spin boxes for touch off and just use a line edit
02:18 PM JT-Shop: my thought is if you use a keyboard you just type in the value
02:19 PM JT-Shop: if you use a touch screen you just set a dynamic property mode to touch and the keyboard pops up when you "click" the line edit
02:19 PM JT-Shop: the mdi does that now
02:19 PM Tom_L: i don't use them anyway for touchoff
02:19 PM Tom_L: i haven't tested it on hardware yet
02:20 PM JT-Shop: you don't use the spin boxes for touch off values?
02:20 PM JT-Shop: how do you enter a value?
02:22 PM Tom_L: jog to where i want to be and touch off
02:22 PM Tom_L: like i said, i haven't tested that on the mill yet
02:22 PM Tom_L: but that's how i do it in axis
02:22 PM Tom_L: i can test that here in a bit
02:23 PM JT-Shop: so you just touch off to 0?
02:23 PM Tom_L: normally yes
02:23 PM Tom_L: use the wobbler to find a corner then use those numbers to touch off
02:23 PM Tom_L: then back off .1"
02:24 PM Tom_L: for the wobbler radius
02:24 PM JT-Shop: so if it's a line edit instead of a spin box you would need to set it to 0 in the designer
02:24 PM JT-Shop: I just put -0.100 for the edge finder
02:24 PM Tom_L: i never enter a value, i pull it from the current position for any G5x offset
02:25 PM Tom_L: which sets that position to 0 for the offset
02:25 PM JT-Shop: https://pasteboard.co/zjAeydHpYr9I.png
02:25 PM JT-Shop: do you use the touch off buttons ^
02:25 PM Tom_L: i haven't in flex yet
02:25 PM Tom_L: but i do in axis
02:25 PM Tom_L: for x y and z
02:25 PM JT-Shop: I don't understand i pull it from the current position for any G5x offset
02:26 PM Tom_L: maybe i'll do a shor t video
02:26 PM JT-Shop: ok
02:27 PM Tom_L: unloading groceries atm
02:27 PM JT-Shop: in axis there is one touch off button but the gotcha is you have to select the correct axis first and that has caught me more than once
02:27 PM JT-Shop: ok
02:28 PM Tom_L: yeah i've had that happen but learn not to do that
02:28 PM JT-Shop: whittling on wood
02:28 PM Tom_L: i've also set x and y tool offsets accidentally and couldn't figure out why the path was off
02:31 PM Tom_L: i do use the touchoff buttons (sim) in flex but i jog to where i want the G54 offset zero to be and push the buttons there
02:31 PM Tom_L: with the spin box at 0
02:32 PM JT-Shop: ok, so if the line edit at start up was set to 0 then no difference
02:34 PM Tom_L: right
02:35 PM Tom_L: what happens when i do that is, the current value gets stored in 5221 - 5223 and sets the display to 0
02:36 PM Tom_L: i see no reason for my purpose anyway why a line edit wouldn't work just fine
02:37 PM JT-BP: ok that makes it a bit more simple to code
02:37 PM Tom_L: where i might use the line edit would be if i was using G54 & G55 and knew the exact offset from the 2
02:37 PM Tom_L: i could enter that there and set G55
02:38 PM JT-Shop: prob easier to use the keyboard number pad than twirling a spin box
02:38 PM JT-Shop: and it's much easier to select all in a line edit
02:42 PM Tom_L: i think that may be something that needs hands on to see
03:06 PM JT-Shop: prototype #3 is close but no cigar...
04:22 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:38 PM Tom_dev: get a joint following error at the end of my program in flex but not axis. running the same config file
04:39 PM Tom_dev: running my axis test program (full feed)
04:39 PM Tom_dev: 150ipm
04:41 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/nlJLjMWuhOqUMcXbCDsQyqvf/20240623_163242.jpg

04:46 PM Tom_dev: need one in aluminum with blue powdercoat
04:47 PM xxcoder: wood it work? ;)
04:48 PM Tom_dev: ok slowed the max_accel down 2 points and it runs thru complete now
04:50 PM CaptHindsight: obviously a metric car seat holder downer
04:51 PM JT-Shop: satin black powder coat
04:51 PM JT-Shop: it's a fire extinguisher mount
05:04 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/paKXognZ5NE
05:08 PM JT-Shop: nice
05:09 PM Tom_L: i need to slow the accel down a bit more. it's right on the edge
05:09 PM JT-Shop: put a new tube in the rear tire of the road bike yesterday and it's flat...
05:09 PM Tom_L: something poke it?
05:10 PM JT-Shop: fixing to find out
05:10 PM Tom_L: or valve isn't seating
05:10 PM Tom_L: did you run flex on the bp to make the proto?
05:12 PM JT-Shop: yes flex is on the bp and what I did was drill the holes on the bp, the rest was done on the bandsaw and sander
05:12 PM Tom_L: you cheated!
05:13 PM JT-Shop: I did notice that flex does not use the display default spindle speed... yet
05:13 PM Tom_L: i also thought i had the feed displayed somewhere but maybe those changed along the way
05:44 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> hey guys--I have an huangyang H100 vfd connected to my linux pc via a UB-RS485 adapter. I want to bench test this without connecting my motors, end stops, etc... I followed this guide: https://www.diycncdesign.com/linuxcnc-2.8-huanyang-vfd.html but near as I can tell I have to home the machine before I can turn on the spindle. Is that true? I am a techie software nerd, but this is my first foray into linuxcnc
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> Would appreciate any guidance about how to verify that the VFD's config, my wiring, and LCNC's config is correct...
05:46 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:46 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> * correct without having to go do all the rest of the wiring for my machine.
05:47 PM Tom_dev: JT-Shop, if i try to decrement the spindle spin box down to 0 instead of stopping the spindle runs away
05:48 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
05:48 PM JT-Woodshop: goes full speed?
05:49 PM JT-Woodshop: psinerd depends on what gui you're using I guess but normally homing is not required to run the spindl3e
05:51 PM JT-Woodshop: Tom_dev, new tube valve leaks... had to use the microscope to find the hole in the original tube but not sure if my glue is still good :(
05:51 PM Tom_dev: swap valves
05:51 PM Tom_dev: yes goes full speed
05:53 PM rdtsc: JT use 99 parts water 1 part soap in a spray bottle
05:53 PM JT-Shop: you can't take a presta valve apart
05:53 PM JT-Shop: afaik
05:53 PM rdtsc: easy way to spot leaks
05:53 PM rdtsc: dish soap
05:53 PM JT-Shop: yup bubble lishish
05:54 PM JT-Shop: that was my next step but I'd have to go inside to get soap
05:54 PM * JT-Shop ponders why Tom_dev spindle is a run away teenager
05:54 PM rdtsc: girls usually have a water bottle for their hair... I usually pilfer that, add some soap, use it, then rinse it out. :)
05:55 PM JT-Shop: :)
05:56 PM JT-Shop: Tom_dev, I think I see what the issue is with decrement
05:57 PM rdtsc: @psinerd all I can suggest is to check the youtube videos out there. There are many describing how to connect the H100.
05:58 PM * Tom_dev charges JT-Shop double for testing in a hot shop
05:58 PM JT-Shop: check's in the mail
05:58 PM rdtsc: Nice Tom
05:58 PM JT-Shop: when you get the check turn on the AC
05:59 PM Tom_dev: i used to have one out here too
06:01 PM JT-Shop: decrement should turn off the spindle if the rpm is <= 0
06:01 PM Tom_dev: just trying to get the pid a bit better..
06:02 PM JT-Shop: cool
06:02 PM Tom_dev: well it runs away here
06:02 PM JT-Shop: well I need to fix it first :)
06:02 PM JT-Shop: "should" is the key word above
06:02 PM Tom_dev: telepathy
06:03 PM JT-Shop: seriously your testing is important to flex
06:03 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> Thanks, that's useful information. I'm currently using gmo I have watched a number of videos on the topic... Currently, I have set everything up wiring wise, etc, but none of gmoccapy spindle controls at the lower right seem to do anything. I was hoping it had to do with not being able to home the machine first... But this probably means something else is wrong. 😦
06:03 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> * gmocappy
06:04 PM JT-Shop: axis is a much better gui to use at first, much more solid
06:05 PM Tom_dev: ok enough putzing for now
06:11 PM Tom_L: much better in here
06:12 PM JT-Shop: send myself a note to fix spindle decrement
06:14 PM Tom_L: the spindle spinbox was handy for testing the pid
06:14 PM JT-Shop: to test actual vs commanded?
06:14 PM Tom_L: yeah
06:14 PM Tom_L: and overshoot etc
06:15 PM Tom_L: it's close enough for the girls i go with
06:15 PM Tom_L: i should test those numbers on the old pc
06:16 PM Tom_L: it's not perfect throughout the whole range but it's pretty close
06:16 PM Tom_L: it absolutely hated any Dterm
06:17 PM JT-Shop: it's about time to put the wings in the oven... steaming them first makes a huge difference
06:23 PM Tom_L: nothing special here tonight
06:24 PM Tom_L: one kid is asleep cause he works tonight and the other is gone
06:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> yah - spindle pid is weird...
06:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Usually mostly I
06:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I think peter explained it once...
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> My problem was mostly the DtoA on those cheap bobs are only about 1 second frequency responce - which doesn't help
07:28 PM Tom_L: i had that same problem with the sherline spindle tuning
09:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/NJHcypAPAqRjmoJXajfGtKID/PXL_20240624_014534597.jpg
09:28 PM xxcoder: looks fun

09:40 PM xxcoder: growing xmas trees? I see a lot of small trees
09:54 PM Tom_L: fun times
09:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Parents planted a lot of random pines around
09:57 PM xxcoder: lol ok
