10:45 AM lcnc-relay: <autistic_mtb> "what's the 'mtb' suffix, 'mountain bike'?"
10:45 AM lcnc-relay: yes, mountain bike 🙂 on another discord server i am in, somebody thought it unsafe to have my full name there, as a google search could find out so much information about me....
10:47 AM bjorkintosh: hmm. depends on who you're surrounded by I s'pose. don't piss off gamers or something like that.
10:47 AM bjorkintosh: most people don't care nor have the time.
10:47 AM bjorkintosh: the mischievous few get all the attention.
10:53 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> got myself a digital torque driver finally

11:35 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> ugh 84 in the shop right now already
12:06 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Did you know you can change your name per server? While not obvious I've had the same username since '06 on everything that is just my name backwards. Never had anyone show up on my front step
12:15 PM lcnc-relay: <autistic_mtb> i can per server, IF i have nitro. otherwise it won't let me
12:31 PM Tom_itx: CloudEvil, most of those fans, even floor fans etc didn't have much of a shroud around the blade back then
12:31 PM Tom_itx: it was awesome!
12:54 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
12:54 PM bjorkintosh: I did get a postcard from someone once from a different channel.
12:54 PM bjorkintosh: it was all in good fun.

01:09 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> Transformer just blew again.... power out, on generator... again
01:09 PM Tom_L: just keep feeding the hampster
01:09 PM lcnc-relay: <turboss> lol
01:10 PM Tom_L: new nic card solved the problem here...
01:11 PM * Tom_L pitches the old one in the trash
01:12 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> i have no idea how much LP gas is left for the generator...
01:13 PM Tom_L: did you see squirrel feathers flying when it blew?
01:19 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> no, it was down the street... i heard it go though
01:26 PM JT-Cave: looks like we are about to get some rain
01:27 PM roycroft: it rained here yesterday and this morning, but that was ok, because i had the big rental truck
01:28 PM roycroft: tomorrow i have to haul a load from eugene in my pickup, but the rain is supposedly over for the week now
01:52 PM lcnc-relay: <Travis Farmer> power is back... fan died in the turn-on surge... smells real bad now, had to put it out on the front porch to air out a bit...
01:54 PM JT-Shop: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1188854725803576 needs a bit of paint
01:56 PM * JT-Shop goes to do a little work... very little
02:04 PM Tom_L: might be missing a carburetor too
02:08 PM JT-Shop: minor details
02:30 PM JT-Shop: I hope the rain passes before the chap from Cape arrives to purchase the window unit
04:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/PcasXVgcGCPeTmWYXNkuyTBD/PXL_20240617_214757571.jpg
05:00 PM JT-Shop: I knew as soon as it got warm the window ac would sell
05:01 PM Tom_L: :)
05:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Well.. I tested the 1.5 ton rating...
05:04 PM JT-Shop: anyone use a RIP for emc?
05:04 PM Tom_L: not that i'm aware of
05:05 PM Tom_L: how does it differer from sim?
05:05 PM JT-Shop: it's not installed, you build it then source it
05:05 PM Tom_L: then nope
05:05 PM JT-Shop: I'll have to putz with that https://forum.linuxcnc.org/41-guis/51580-flexible-gui?start=30#303210
05:07 PM Tom_L: https://gist.github.com/KurtJacobson/f260ff3b2e979f694ed7c1a4c17fa479
05:08 PM JT-Shop: yup it's pretty strait forward to do
05:08 PM Tom_L: can't say i've ever done that
05:09 PM Tom_L: how is it different from a sim?
05:09 PM Tom_L: sounds like a sim you build yourself
05:10 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> I run a RIP environment on my machine. Largely because I needed more HAL memory space and am running 2.8.
05:10 PM Tom_L: where are the files kept?
05:11 PM JT-Shop: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/code/building-linuxcnc.html#_building_for_run_in_place
05:11 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> The config files are in the normal place. All of the source and compiled stuff is in the build directory. The one gotcha is that you have to build all your custom modules in the RIP as well.
05:11 PM JT-Shop: it's actually in the docs
05:12 PM JT-Shop: so where would a python file go?
05:12 PM JT-Shop: I assume after building you just see where axis.py ends up?
05:13 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> If it is in your configuration it would go in the same LinuxCnc config folder as normal. The config file location does not change.
05:14 PM JT-Shop: what I mean is where would flexgui go in the RIP so it can be found
05:14 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> No. You run the rip environment script and then all linuxcnc commands are local to that install. So you can just run 'linuxcnc' and it will run the new rip version.
05:14 PM JT-Shop: right, I remember that
05:15 PM Tom_L: maybe i did run one once but that was a very long time ago
05:15 PM Tom_L: and i don't remember much about it
05:17 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> If flexgui is not a part of linuxcnc then it would just go wherever it is you would normally put it. You would then run flexgui from the rip environment and it should all just work.
05:18 PM JT-Shop: I put flexgui in /usr/bin and the rest in the python area
05:19 PM JT-Shop: flexgui/src/flexgui usr/bin
05:19 PM JT-Shop: flexgui/src/flexcopy usr/bin
05:19 PM JT-Shop: flexgui/*.desktop usr/share/applications
05:19 PM JT-Shop: flexgui/src/*.ui usr/lib/libflexgui
05:19 PM JT-Shop: flexgui/src/libflexgui/*.qss usr/lib/libflexgui
05:19 PM JT-Shop: flexgui/src/libflexgui/*.py usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/libflexgui
05:20 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> Unless there are hardcoded paths in flexgui it should just work once launched from a terminal with the rip environment.
05:20 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc> Personal opinion, all uis should be installed separate from linuxcnc.
05:21 PM JT-Shop: I agree with that
05:21 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc> Pretty sure RIP can still look at the all executables in path still
05:21 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc> At all the*
05:21 PM JT-Shop: flexgui is launched from the display setting in the ini so emc must know where to find it
05:21 PM JT-Shop: I'll have to test
05:22 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> Linuxcnc will still pull other executables from the path. Even when using RIP. As long as flexgui is in the path, it should work.
05:22 PM JT-Shop: ok thanks

05:23 PM lcnc-relay: Interesting you can specify path to rip
07:32 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/tywqPPPgnrw
07:32 PM xxcoder: insane precision
07:41 PM xxcoder: $1000 each seal. yeah I can see why its so expensive
07:43 PM xxcoder: https://hobbymetal-japan.com/products/mirain if youre tempted by that video lol

08:23 PM onceloved: If the ethercat driver uses periodic synchronous position mode, can pid adjustment be used?
11:30 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc> You're best to use Velocity control with ethercat. From my experience position control and lcnc don't play nicely
